26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

10928 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Conveniently Invisible at 6 Jan 2011 02:30:49 PM
Came home to an $800 bill through global roaming. Whilst I take some responsibility for running up a bill using internet on my phone overseas, any attempt to check how my bill was tracking whilst I was away was conveniently unavailable. Of course I got no joy from calling. Then of course there is to be expected continual drop outs, even at my home in Melbourne CBD and work in Collingwood. These I have just accepted as part of the service.

i sent an email to vodafone asking for an apology & some from of compensation. below is a copy of the mail i sent them & the response that i got:

i just got my internet bill in the mail today. what i would like as well is an apology & some form of compensation about the crappy service that i have received from vodafone. i rang vodafone twice yesterday. first time was around lunchtime. according to the twit that i spoke to i never rang vodafone to have the bill sent out to me in the mail. i tried to tell him that i did but he basically called me a liar. the second time that i called vodafone yesterday was a couple of hours later. according to that twit there was no record that i called at about lunchtime. that call was about a complaint that i have with vodafone. because of all the stress you people at vodafone have caused me i have spent all night in hospital with an asthma attack. i hope that you arre going to compensate me for all the stress that you have caused me. by the way i have lodged 2 complaints with the TIO & 2 complaints with the ACCC about how vodafone is treating thier customers these days. maybe that will get you to pull your fingers out of your backsides & start treating your customers with the respect they deserve instead of treating them like a piece of dirt.

vodafone's response:

Should you wish to rephrase your response I will be happy to assist you further

vodafone's response is a bloody joke. no form of apology or compensation whatsoever.

Crappy coverage, internet works but very slow and often not at all when on the move, can rarely pick up 3G. No wonder people are silly enough to pay a premium with Telstra. I may be heading that way as soon as I pay out my contract, just lucky I wasn't silly enough for a 24 month one!!

sick of it. voda now dont even answer their customer complait lines- it is like their head is well in the sand. Voda is owned by a company in aus called Hutchison Telecommunications Australia and is listed on the ASX. The Australian head office contact information is listed on the Company information page on the ASX website. Vodafone cant hide behind thier indian call centre and crap processes for ever. look them up and call them here.

10878 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Vodafone Failure!!!!! at 6 Jan 2011 11:30:18 AM
I have been with Vodafone for a month now and since being with them it has been a endless problem of problem upon problem. I got my Iphone4 on the 20/12/10 after calling them on the 02/12/10. When I got my phone it took me 2 days to try and get it connected. Once the phone was connected my internet service was not working and it took me another 2 days to get that working. My internet connection is slow is drops off. My phone reception is so bad that I can't make many calls. My family calling from overseas can't call me either as they keep getting m voicemail. Every time I need speak to their 1555 to takes between 30 - 45 minutes to even speak to a human. The only reason why I am with Vodafone is it allows me to call my family overseas and if Telstra had the same plan I would go back in a heart beat.

10877 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very bad at 6 Jan 2011 11:26:21 AM
Signed up for Vodafone bundle package mid last year when I first arrived in Melbourne from NZ. I have had problems with the mobile broadband connection from the start!! No one was able to help me over the phone and no one was willing to help me when I visited their retail store!!
I have made numerous phone calls to discuss the billing issue I have had ever since my first ever bill from Vodafone! It took me over 4 months to resolve the issue and had to go through different people in different department to get this sorted!! I still triple check my bills today just to make sure they didnt bill me wrong!!

Till date, I am still experiencing connection problem with my mobile internet (very low speed, drops out from time to time on a regular basis!) I have rang Vodafone wanting to get off my contract but they want me to pay over $1500 if I was to drop off when really they are the ones who are not honoring what they have advertised/promised from the start!!!

Bad coverage, drop outs, unable to use the internet to check anything, the customer service used to get street directions (when unable to access google maps due to connection issues) costs an absolute fortune and even then the directions, are at best, completely unable to be deciphered. Angry customer here, what a waste of money!!!!!!!! The only reason i'm still with them is because I am on a contract. The worst bit is that my handset sucks....i called to buy an iphone and got COMPLETELY talked out of it and into a Samsung Jet because iphones were out of stock. The sales guy totally sucked me in. 10821 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is No Reception, delayed texts/voice msgs at 6 Jan 2011 07:53:22 AM
I have been with Vodafone for over 8 years, and I can not believe the current issues I have had. I know that I have lived in the same house for over and then all of a sudden I coudln't get reception.
To make it worse, I had a massive backlog of texts and voice messages come through all at once... days later! Which meant that I was uninformed of an important birth, in which I found out 3 days later, I should have been at the hospital days before!
Not to mention having an enormous impact on business and personal responsibilities.
I couldn't bare it anymore, was having too much of an impact... I have since changed providers. Thankfully my contract had finished, but the last few months paying for a unreliable service has made things disasterous!
Now to clean and patch up Vodafone's mess they have created.

Usual stuff- bad coverage, drop outs, long wait on phone etc etc.
I am now using my vodaphone internet to search other alternative services... once I find one...I am switching...this is absolute rubbish...more people should leave to send vodaphone a clear message.
6 Jan 2011 12:20:17 PM: I think they have the message.I think the answer is "Tell it to someone who cares".
Though, now this website has made it possible for people to see they are not alone, Vodafone's dirty little secrets about it's performance are out, and now something will need to be done, perhaps by the ACCC, because the tactic of frustrating and f*cking with people until they just give up and put up with it until the end of their contract cannot work any longer.

10792 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Hopeless at 6 Jan 2011 12:43:30 AM
Sending picture messages is a joke. I sent one to a friend 4 days ago. He has never received it. I was sent picture messages on Christmas Day - they arrived 4 days later. Spent almost 5 hrs (on various occasions over the last week) on hold. Was promised someone would call back. On the occasion that a girl (who mumbled her message on my voicemail - the call, of course, went straight to voicemail) did call back, was not to be found anywhere. She asked me to call the help line - I did. No one knew who she was and there were no notes on my account. I spent 50 min on hold trying to get through. The chap who did take my call said there were no known issues with Vodafone. I laughed and hung up. I finally got through to someone in the business accounts area. he has promised a mth free, and pending the result of an enquiry by the technical dept, release from my contract. They promised to call me back on Jan 6 - but I'm not holding my breath.

10789 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Call Centre Cr*p!! at 5 Jan 2011 10:53:25 PM
After several experiences of ringing the Vodafail call centre in India, I have wised up to their various excuses to try and make me think a)this is a localised problem just happening in my area b) my phone may be faulty - switch it off, take the battery out and try again (and of course, lose your call to the call centre) c)I am one of the few Vodafail customers who is having ongoing problems. Don't listen to these excuses, tell them up front that you know about the NATIONWIDE debacle that is called the Vodafone network, that there are more than 10,000 people who have already signed up on this website and are ready to take a class action and that you want a credit for every month the service continues to be crap!

Dropped calls, no calls at all over Christmas, couldn't even dial 121 for voice message retrieval and text messages have arrived 2 or 3 days later, some have never arrived. As for the mobile broadband, this is a pathetic joke, even dail-up is faster and more reliable.
I stood on St Kilda Beach between Xmas and New Year with the big Vodafone Cricket promotion underway, and couldn't even make a call! I hope none of those hundreds of people sitting on Vodafone boxes watching the cricket were silly enough to be sucked in by the promotion and sign up!

10773 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Infinite holding, BS & plain idiocy at 5 Jan 2011 09:17:21 PM
i cannot quite believe a company has the gaul to enter the marketplace & offer the kind of shoddy experience both my wife & I have received over the past month since arriving from London. The failures are common it seems from inexcusable times waiting on hold through to drop out & lack of service. Anyone had numbers dialed whilst you're on another call? All quite unbelievable. Service complaints are not uncommon in the UK across the networks but the suffering here in Australia on VF surpasses it by miles. Something offer to be done & I salute the gentleman who set up this site & hope a class action succeeds. Failing that? Something akin to the student protests in London at VF's Australian HQ might be the only way forward. After all, it might not just be a job at stake next time a call drops out, it could be someone's life.
6 Jan 2011 12:36:43 PM: Class actions in Australia are not as glamorous or as anywhere near as lucrative as those portrayed in the movies.I'm not sure the good money part-punitive damages -even exists with class actions. And there are ways for companies to avoid even paying the costs and straight reimbursement awarded against them.
Look at James Hardie and the (now many dead) victims of asbestos; and the work Senator Nick Xenophon has been doing in this area.
26 Jan 2011 06:37:21 PM: And I keep wondering, where is the government in all this? How was it allowed to get so f**king bad?

So, I'm not vodaphone, but Three, but they're both "part of the same family". Reception for me over the last year, PARTICULARLY the last three months has been TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE. 10762 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very bad at 5 Jan 2011 08:26:08 PM
Hello, Firstly thank you for starting this website. Its a sad fact that Vodafone (and some other companies operating in Australia) are so out of touch with their customers and arrogant, that a national campaign has to be started in order for proper customer service to be delivered.
My complaints....
1. Unbelievably Bad Reception: I live in Clayton Victoria and suburb of Melbourne, also by the by where Telstra and others telecom companies have their national telecommunication control centers. We're not talking about rural Australia here, and yet I consistently can't get reception in my living room or walking down the main street. Seriously, not being able to get reception in Clayton is like not being able to get Sushi in Tokyo ..... during a sushi festival.
2. Long Loooong time left on hold: I had to sort out a billing problem ($3500 dollar bill for overseas roaming, thanks very much) and with time on hold, bounced between this department and that, it took over 2.5 HOURS!
Hopefully this information helps in improving the situation
Regards
Damien Lacey
5 Jan 2011 11:02:21 PM: Hey Damien, I agree with your comments about Clayton being metro Melbourne - but seriously, can it get much worse than this: standing on St Kilda beach on front of the Vodafone Summer of Cricket promotion and can't make a call! Could have had a red cardboard Vodafone box seat though! Maybe that complete waste of money on cricket promotion could have been better directed into improving their network.

Signed 2 year Contract with Vodafone August 2010. Phone HTC Legend and am experiencing ongoing BAD reception. Calls fail while speaking, phone doesn't ring because of bad reception therefore up for extra cost to retrieve messages, 50% of time can't ring from home office. Customer Care in 'Mumbai' tested local towers and say they're not faulty. Also early confusion with accounts. Regret leaving 3. I have missed business because of the reception problem; am registered on Vodafone data base as having problems since signing contract and I want to CANCEL contract. Even replaced HTC Legend thinking it was the problem with the phone. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10711 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extremely Terrible at 5 Jan 2011 05:11:40 PM
I have no reception at all with Vodafone in my area, they originally locked me in to a 2 year contract which I did agree too how ever the phone they gave me was faulty and I spoke with the customer service line and was told 'what do you want us to do about it'(they were rude and unhelpful) it took over 4 months for Vodafone to respond to my complaint, they did offer me 6 months of half cost bills however one of my bills was one hundred dollars more than it should have been on my cap (which I NEVER go over) and when i called to investigate i was offered no assistance and simply told to pay - not only that how can i use it when my calls constantly drop out, texts dont go through and I never get more than one to two bars of reception and Vodafone wont let me cancel my plan without paying it out - I have been with them for 6-7 years and this is the worst it has ever been and as a supposed valued customer they have not offered me any sort of compensation. As soon as my contract ends i will be finding another provider who values there customers and supplies an excellent product.
5 Jan 2011 05:26:43 PM: Lodge a complaint with the TIO and inform vodafone that you have done so, I successfully got out of my contract today, still had 9 months to go. Whatever you do don't let up on harrassing them

Hi I am very new to vodafone and only been a customer for around one month. I signed up for the 45 dollar infinite plan. I was placed on a 49 dollar cap. I managed to change this after waiting 45 minutes on the phone. I then noticed I was charged over 189 dollars outside my cap on the 49 plan. Even though I was only on it for around 5 days. It seems I was charged the 49 dollar cap but didn't receive any included calls. My bill is due for $189 but I can't view it and are expected to pay it unseen even when I know they have screwed up. I have spent several hours on the phone attempting to speak to someone about it this is absolutely pathetic. I have googled this and this is very common. I am off to the TIO as it has now been over one hour on the phone to them.

10692 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Worst we experienced so far at 5 Jan 2011 04:02:24 PM
Connecting to the 3G network using a USB modem, the software Voda Mobile connect lite never showed anything above 3 bars of network strength in our house. The connection constantly drops out to be able to continue you have to disconnect and reconnect only for it to drop out seconds later, imagine trying to do a credit card transaction when you have a connection like this. I have long since given up doing any personal banking and online shpopping and started to do all that at work, I will get into trouble soon.

we have a bundle of iphone 4 and wireless internet connection we get too many missed calls on the mobile, at first we thought the ringer volume was not loud enough, but since then also realised that we simply don't receive those calls and only receive missed calls or voice mail messages.

Having signed a new contract in oct I have had nothing but problems including being charged when I was meant to have 3 months free and then constant issues with blackberry reception and access to applications. Had to spend over 24 hours on the phone in the first week - having my calls not returned - having to explain from the start to about 5 different people - to eventually be told I could get a replacement phone 1 month after purchase. Service is appaling - amnd when I complained to vodafone the response was they outsource blackberry support so could not help...! Pardon...! Fell off the chair on that one and gave up.

10676 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 5 Jan 2011 03:15:54 PM
I signed up with vodafone around 2 years ago and have never had any real issues with it, until recently.
I moved into a new house with my fiancee around 3 months ago and when we moved in, we had both 3G coverage and telephone reception.
Over the last 2 and a half months, coverage has gradually gotten worse and now we have NO 3G coverage and extremely limited telephone reception; unless we turn our phones off and then turn them back on - in which case, we get full reception and 3G coverage for around 20 seconds before it goes back to nothing.
We went into a Vodafone store to enquire and a the attendant who worked there responded with (this is a direct quote), "well, if you couldnt get reception, you shouldn't have moved there."
I have tried calling Vodafone and am always left waiting on hold for ages and then I am transferred through to another department, and wait on hold for ages to speak with them also.
Yesterday, my fiancee called Vodafone in the morning as was promised a call back at 6.15pm. When he heard nothing by 6.30, he tried calling them from my mobile and waiting on hold for over an hour, and the person transferred him to another department and he waiting another 40mins before hanging up.
My sms's come back with a note saying that they haven't been sent, so I send them again, and again, and again and people respond saying they have received 7 or 8 texts from me - and I am being charged for ALL of these texts!
Also, I get so many people tell me they have tried to call my mobile - I tell them I have no coverage at my house and ask if they get that generic voice telling them the phone was unavailable - but they assure me that the phone rings, but I never get any missed calls on my phone.
I know that this post is a bit of an jumbbled rant, but I have so many issues and they have randomly popped into my head whilst I have been typing, hence I havent been able to string my sentences together coherently.
Bottom line is:
I AM VERY UNHAPPY and it is unfair becasue there is absoloutely nothing I can do about it, but that shouldn't mean that I should have to put up with horrible service either!
6 Jan 2011 02:13:46 PM: Coverage has changed dramatically in the last 3 months because after the merger with 3mobile into VHA both networks are upgrading and changing their towers. During this time they said there would be some temporary outages while the new towers were put up. If you check the vodafone website you can search your area and see where the towers are still affected, which ones are going to be affected too, expected outages, resolve times etc etc. Hope that helps - it did for me. The reduced coverage is a temporary thing and should be resolved soon and go back to how it was

10663 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is horrific at 5 Jan 2011 02:47:18 PM
I use my phone for business, as vodafone is the carrier of 'choice' at my employer. I am constantly apologising to customers for them not being able to reach me. I have even had a customer tell me there was something wrong with my mobile and it had apparently been disconnected. He sounded like I hadn't paid my bill or something and it was pretty embarrassing even though I assured him it should be working and that vodafone just have a very poor service.

Dropped calls, failed calls, receiving texts hours after they were sent. 3G failing for no reason. It's a joke.

I havent been able to use my USB wireless at home for over two months and was promised a sharing dock early in December to possibly rectify the problem, silly me I assumed it was december 2010 and as 2011 kicks in and I still havent received anything but reminders to pay my account which is due 21.1.2011..... I think there may be a problem there somewhere..And "Neil" is a guy who works for a telecommunications company with all the technology under the sun but cant call people back to discuss or rectify our complaints.
6 Jan 2011 11:05:31 AM: further to my last Now Vodafone advise me that I will have to purchase the sharing dock from a vodafone outlet and they will refund my purchase in my next bill,,, what a great deal I have shit reception + complain and I get to wait a month and then have to go out and purchase an item that "might" fix my reception by myself..Customer Service A+ for effort buy that man a vindaloo...
6 Jan 2011 11:55:11 AM: Stay strong, if what they're offering isn't any good then don't accept it. Vodafone is the one that can't provide the service you are paying for so they have to come up with a resolution that you are happy with.

When I make a phone call, after 3 - 4 minutes the call disconnects, I phone the person back and then its fine. However I make alot of calls during the day so having it cut out on me initially on all the calls is very frustrating.

Also, the service is poor. Sometimes I cant even get reception and I am supposed to be in a 3G network area according to Vodafone.

For a week we had no service at all. It was reported to them and was eventually fixed, however I lost a lot of business during this time, where is my compensation?

My contact expires in August, and I am on a $114 p.m plan with an iphone, however I would like to pay it out, but vodafone wont let me, I phone up to get the payout figure then they ramble on with some other information that isnt applicable so they are making it difficult to exit the contract.

I hate Telstra too as they are rip offs, but what am I to do.

10622 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Can't get reception on the Hume Highway at 5 Jan 2011 01:27:22 PM
I travel regularly on the Hume Highway between Melbourne and Albury and consistently have reception drop out from the moment I am out of Melbourne until I hit Albury. Seems crazy to me as it's a main transport corridor servicing thousands of people a day. Why can't I make a call?

On a drive to Western Australia in November saw me have reception only in Ceduna, Port Augusta and Margaret River. I went days without reception but most of my time was spent in well populated areas.

And my least favourite blackspot? The corner of Bourke and Russell Streets in Melbourne's CBD. I guess maybe that's a remote location too huh?

My 8 years of loyalty to Vodafone is about to amount to a transfer to Telstra when my contract ends in July.

Uers on infinite cap plan be aware! -
I am on a $65 plan and this should entitle me to all of $65 value. Apparently not according to vodafone. I only noticed this as im in the habit of constantly checking all my plans(home internet/mobile) on my iphone app. The app said i had $2.00 left on the cap when i know i still had around $10.00. So i double checked the calls and calculated that i still have $10.00 credit but vodafone site still said i have $2.00. So i decided to call customer care and was on hold for more that 20 min (No Surprise there!!). I finally get to speak to the operator and got her to double check all the calls. Had to ask her to calculate it 3 times before she got the amount right. You would think these guys are good in maths. Anyway she confirmed the right amount after the 3rd time and said that the remaining amount was all going to gst(gst is extra) and that didnt sit right with me. She then went on to say that this would have been mentioned in the terms and conditions. I then told her that no mention of this in the terms and conditions. If you advertise $65 plan you are entitled to all of it. She then wanted to know if i signed it online or at the store which i thought was stupid as to why would the contracts differ if you signed it online or at the store. I then asked her to go through the contract and if she did find where its mentioned that gst is not included then i was happy to let this go. She then put me on hold for another 25 mins and came back to confirm that i was right and i was entitled to the whole $65 and that although the online site was showing i had $2.00 owing i would not be billed extra (as i still had $10.00 owing). I also got her to send me a msg from 1555 number stating that I will get the full amount of $65 which includes gst.
So people, if you are on a cap plan please check regularly as you could be paying more than you have too.
6 Jan 2011 02:21:20 PM: Infinite $65 plan minimum spend inclusions: International Voice & Video Calls, 13/18 Numbers Re-routed calls, calls to national (1223), & international (1225), directory assistance, National roaming
Exclusions: Ask Anything, Premium TXT numbers & services, International Roaming
Data Overage, Call Screen
Social Access (facebook twitter etc): free and unlimited:
T&C: Minimum costs and early termination charges for termination within the contract term apply. Additional charges are payable for excluded services and usage exceeding the Included Value. Any unused Included Value is forfeited at the end of the monthly billing period. Call charges are rounded up to the nearest cent before GST is included.
Hope that helps

I am utterly amazed by the number of complaints about vodafone on this site.

I am also hoping that all these complaints are being logged with the TIO ombudsman as this may be the only way that we will see resolution and change as reports statistics are made public (name and shame)

Also perhaps it is time to start sending these posts to the Federal Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Senator the Hon. Stephen Conroy as this is part of his portfolio and he is supposed to be working for the people.

The contact email address is

minister@dbcde.gov.au
If you email the Minister please include your postal address with your communication.
http://www.minister.dbcde.gov.au/contact

I wonder if the NBN will include assurance from the Minister that companies like Vodafone will not be able to continually take customers for a ride like they have for the last 20 years.

I understand why some companies think outsourcing their call centres to far off places might be a good financial move in the short term, but Vodafone and 3 have surely got to be losing customers due to their awful customer service centre.
I try to get a simple message through and they can't do anything about it because they can't understand your complaint without their scripts. So damn frustrating.
Offshoring is fine but offshore to people with some damn common sense and English ability!

6 Jan 2011 02:22:48 PM: It's especially worse at the moment because Vodafone moved/opened a new call centre in Mumbai, as previously they were somewhere else in India not sure. I have a Blackberry with Vodafone and a Wirelss Internet Mobile thing with Vodafone. I recently moved from Craigieburn to Greenvale in Victoria. When living in Craigieburn both the GPRS on blackberry and ability to get internet on the wireless mobile internet were working maybe 20% of the time, the rest of the time I was out of range or on "edge". I thought it was because I lived in a peasant neighbourhood and by moving to Greenvale ( a slightly less peasant neighbourhood) my reception issues would improve. But no, extremely poor GPRS on Blackberry and ability to get reception on wireless internet still both sh*t!! My Internet reception for example, when connection is actually successful, the reception is rated between Very Poor and Poor (and it only connects probably once every three attempts).

We went with Optus and had dramas for 50 mobiles so returned to Telstra. Our sister company opted to go to Vodafone but with our suggestion that a line be put in their contract that they could get out of contract if service was not satisfactory. Vodafone was so eager to get the business they agreed without even getting a definition on who's idea of satisfactory it needed to be. Anyway - they are no longer with Vodafone - so it seems some can escape the drama with only slight damage/

I was then charged a $100 exit fee from three that I wasn't informed off.
When I asked about reception in country areas and was told that the agreement three had with telstra would most likely roll over to Vodafone.
Turns out I now don't have reception at either of my parents houses and even in Melbourne I find reception drops out regulary.
I wish I could go back to three!!!

If you did and you had less than 3 months to go on your 3 plan then the cancellation fee should be waived. Have spent over three hours over three separate calls on hold. One of those calls was an hour and forty minutes before speaking to a human being. So much for the callback service - was never given the option.

Their support department has admitted that I have poor coverage indoors at both work and home, in spite of supposedly having "full" coverage at my home address. Tired of paying extortionate prices for lack of service.

However, if I do get out of my contract, what are my options? The alternatives aren't much better. Optus have poor performance in Melbourne, and their accounts department are clueless, and Telstra have an excellent network but the performance of their accounts department appears to be inversely proportional to the quality of their network, and their prices are now almost-extortionate, down from extortionate.

How depressing.

I constantly loose network coverage for the internet and have to use my home wifi. Very interesting though I have spoken to a contractor that works for a company that repairs and looks after the towers for vodaphone and I asked him what was going on. I have experienced a huge number of network dropouts in the Sunbury area late last year. At some stages I can't even make calls. It seems to go in phases. Most days are good, but then you get these days where you are speaking to someone and the phone keeps dropping off (up to a dozen time in one call) to the point of frustration. I drive regularly from Melbourne airport to sunburn regularly and at nearly the same point each time the phone drops off as well. Can't they switch tower without dropping off line. Very frustrating.
Recently both my wives and my phone would not even log onto the vodaphone network, so it's not a phone or location issue. I spent quite a while on the phone to try and get the problem resolved, but they tried to insist that it was an issue on my end. Typical!

We have been with vodafone for 16months now, and i have had nothing but problems from day one. Problems from vodafone billing us incorrectly, charging us for calls which are part of our cap, right up to the last 3-4 months of rediculous service.
Vodafone have said to adjust a couple of phone settings to try to help the service, Yeah right.... still in same situation. we even went as far as getting our new phone serviced to make sure i even resorted back to using my older phones to see which one makes a difference. nothing....

we operate our business from a home office, and i cannot believe the amount of times my phone will search for a network, or i can be working away and not realising that i have had not reception for half the day, until a call will come through and say where have you been?

we were promised a good deal without affecting our service. i am so over Vodafone and their rubbish promises. they can shove it where it fits.
if you can't deliver what you promise, an international company like vodafone, then you should release your customers, not suck anyone else into your pathetic company and shut your doors!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 Jan 2011 08:34:46 AM: Do you have a landline? If you're running a business from home without one then shame on you.

Also, if you need your phone for business why go Vodafone over Telstra? I have 2 phones, my work phone with Telstra and my private phone is with Vodafone. I chose Telstra for my business number because I didn't mind the more expensive plan for better coverage and rural coverage. Vodafone's plans are much cheaper and better value and even though so far I've not had a problem with coverage and reception I was not willing to risk it for my business. People just need to take some responsibility for themselves and/or their business.

Little or no reception in an area that had reasonable coverage (being my reason to switch to VodaF for the better coverage) until a 'network outage' one week. Broadband dongle is so slow. Also it crashes every time it stays logged on for more than 10 minutes. Which means I have to force close the software. Then the only way to reconnect is to restart my mac. It's a real pain.

I moved to Mt Macedon and my phone never worked. But I couldn't cancel my contract (due to no service)... that's bad news. If they can't provide what you are paying for WHERE you live what's the point??!?!?

Also my phone bill keeps rocketing up to $250. When usually it's $60 CAP. I get no knowledge of why suddenly so much, and no warning. I'd rather it just 'run out' so will cancel and go back to pay-as-you-go. But I can't cancel because of their contract.

4 Jan 2011 07:38:48 PM: Good for you!!! Seems the correct way to do it. Just remember to document everything that was said and when, it could prove useful with TIO!!!

Can't pay my bill online ( error msg everytime!) or through the 1555 no. As it keeps dropping out every 5 seconds!! This network is useless! ACMA, release the spectrum, so other networks can work!

Saw Vodafones mobile broadband sticks advertised in teh Safeway catalogue - thought they were cheap, so I bought one... I wish I had visited this site before hand... do you think I can get it to work with reasonable speed? Took me 3.5 minutes to load the Age website - thats really high speed broadband! Bought a Telstra stick to replace it, and it was 3 times the price, but at least it works. I was led to believe that Vodafone was a quality netowrk, but how wrong I was.
4 Jan 2011 06:53:21 PM: Moral of the story: never buy, trust or believe anything carrying the Vodafone symbol/word! Check out the 'How To Complain' tab at the top of the page, seems like TIO may be your best bet. We also need information about your postcode, check out the 'Your Coverage' section to enter your findings.

10404 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is beyong fail at 4 Jan 2011 06:25:00 PM
I have been with vodaphone for over 10 years and ]never had any major complaints. I use my phone strictly for phoning and texting and am on the $49 plan. I have just received a bill for over $300 of data usage that i did not incur.....and all they can tell me is that it is impossible to investigate and that they can give a $30 credit which I don not want!!!!Has anybody experienced similar?

4 Jan 2011 06:57:00 PM: Eeeeeeeek!!!!!!! That is painful!!!! As for the impossible to investigate.....hmmmmmmmmmmm...........I leave you to your own decision regarding that one!!! Check out the 'How To Complain' tab at the top of the page, seems like TIO may be your best bet.
4 Jan 2011 07:13:40 PM: Makes sense to me, give someone a bill that they didnt incurr and accept 90% of it as full and final payment?
5 Jan 2011 01:36:39 AM: Yes, but at least I had the logs on my phone to back me up.Logs they would find really hard to manipulate since the phone is offline most of the time. Actually took a photo of my phone logs today. Not to do with overcharging.
5 Jan 2011 04:26:47 AM: if it is impossible to investigate they have to wipe it...

5 months with Telstra, 5 months of phonecalls, averaging 1 hour and at least 4 operators and still nobody can help. Sorry but the grass is sadly not greener :(
4 Jan 2011 06:06:32 PM: Someone has bought the 'Hellstra' domain name. Maybe you can go there when/if it opens. lol.
4 Jan 2011 06:10:42 PM: I disagree, I am connected to both networks, an I have never had to call Telstra as it has always been flawless. Not even going to mention Vodas network as the other 10,000 people have already said what I was going to say :(
4 Jan 2011 10:17:40 PM: lol Hellstra. i like that XD
Although i have my home computer internet and home phone through telstra for the last 2 years and have had probably 3 problems with the internet cutting out, but when i ring up within about 10-15 minutes they have it fixed.
At least they give service. Unlike Vodafone who dont even answer there customer calls. and think that replacing the sim is the solution for everything

Vodafone Customer Service. No call backs, too busy to talk even after you have been holding on for 40 minutes, line quality very scratchy, no 3G and today 4th Jan 2011, no Customer Service at all!!! "We have a problem, sorry" then line disconnects. Tried 4 times with same answer. Only 6 months to go till my contract ends, I can't wait. Bought a Telstra prepaid to use at work and home because Vodafone has no signal!!!!!!!!
Just crap service from one of the biggest telcos in the world! Is this what they think of us Aussies!
4 Jan 2011 07:00:48 PM: Vodafone think??? That's stretching it a bit!!!! Check out the 'How To Complain' tab at the top of the page, seems like TIO may be your best bet.
4 Jan 2011 08:07:27 PM: Have contacted TIO and have reached a verbal resolution with Vodafone, but try getting them to put it in writing. Now 5 hours without a callback :-(. This lack of service has been going on for nearly 8 months now.
24 Jan 2011 12:58:59 PM: Update. Vodafone have released me from my contract after I contacted the Ombudsman as I have had a previous history on my account of call dropouts etc. I have since transferred to another telco where so far the problems of account stuff-ups are still there but hey at least I have 3G signal now. I still have to receive Vodafone's latest bill so we will see if they are true to their word. I asked them to put it in writing but they said that they do not do that and that they will be true to their word! Time will tell!

10391 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is lines dropping out, not connecting, mob. constantly "searching", customers and family/friends complaining "can't connect". at 4 Jan 2011 05:32:20 PM
I am Sole Trader (with ABN)doing "on-call" Maintenance work. I have lost a considerable amount of income as well as some credibility due to my customers' calls not getting thru to my mobile phone, disconnecting after a few rings or dropping out after a few seconds into our conversation. I have missed out on a number of appointments from my regular customers as well as potentially new customers. I have recently had my phone checked and got a "clean bill of health". It did not occur to me, until recently, that it could be a poor carrier.
I wonder why my wife is with TPG on a mere $20/mth with no contract and has not had ANY problems at all!!!!

Can someone tell me what the procedure is for the CLASS ACTION that I have recently heard of??
4 Jan 2011 05:39:13 PM: Here is the link: http://www.piperalderman.com.au/vf/

There is currently no class action, the law firm is investigating the possibility and finding out more information from customers. This website is not officially affiliated with Piper Alderman or the class action. - The Vodafail.com Team

Severe lack of network coverage in Brighton Vic, Newcastle NSW, Regents Park QLD and Albany creek QLD.... what am i paying for??? Have spent 3 weeks and a total of 7 hours trying to get through to customer service on 1555 and 1300 650 410 only to be stuck on hold for over an hour then cut off before my call is answered or constant recorded announcements advising "We seem to have experienced a technical difficulty and you will have to call back"..... HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!! I will be released from my contract if they dont want be sued black and blue!!!!!!!!!!
4 Jan 2011 05:18:39 PM: Check out the 'How To Complain' tab at the top of the page, take it to the TIO and let us know how you get on!! The TIO should be able to help you out of your contract, then you can use your iPhone 4 on a decent network.

10376 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is i could string cans together to create a better service. at 4 Jan 2011 04:47:38 PM
I have been a vodaphone customer for years... (well over 5 I think) service at one time was pretty good but since i moved to a different suburb i cant get any service that isn't well below par.

I have drop outs on probably half my calls, I am forced to say "hello? are you still there" constantly and walk around my house trying to find a place where someone can hear me.
People constantly tell me that they have been calling for hours and get all kinds of error messages.
an average call takes me three attempts.

Eventually I was given a managers email address as I was so distressed about the constant waits on hold to complain. (the calls would generally end an hour in and still prematurely when the Vodaphone service would drop out and I would be forced to call back and wait in a line AGAIN AND AGAIN... for hours!).

I actually rang to cancel my plan and kinda got suckered into trying a new iphone, mind you this did take waiting on hold for about 8 hours over a few days.
I was told that it would get better, they would offer me a new phone and a two week trial to back out if it didnt improve.
For the two week trial they put me on it was fine. tolerable even.

then it all started again... literally the day after the 2 weeks ran out, the service went back to being horrible. as soon as i tried sending emails saying this wasn't good enough to the manager I could no longer get a response.

I have a nice shiny Iphone4 that cant make or receive calls properly now.
Don't be suckered if they offer you one, its a god damned con job.

I am so angry with Vodaphone that I have warned everyone I know about this companies lousy service and greedy business practices.

I get Vodafone to send me the lotto numbers after the draw via SMS. The results for the last draw on Friday just turned up today, 4 days after they were rolled out of the barrel! Talk about slow.
5 Jan 2011 02:03:38 AM: You know, even Australia Post could do better than that.Maybe if they got someone to walk from the lotto draw to your home- and do town crier stops along the way, for all the other Vodafone customers who play Lotto. Heaven knows it's a lottery whether they can make calls, or if they do, if they last as long as the caller wants.

10356 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is absolutely shocking at 4 Jan 2011 03:23:22 PM
those working for vodafone must find the 'receiving text messages hours after they'd been sent' game such an entertaining one, as they just continue to play. same with the 'lets take several minutes to load a simple webpage' game and the 'complete reception dropout in the most metropolitan and central of locations' game.
it must be time for this disgrace of a telco company to realise that us consumers aren't so entertained.

I have Vodafone Internet which when I connect at different times, comes up with either poor or very good connection, but drops out constantly. They had also forgotten to email my bills for 2 months which I didn't get, and served me with a $10 late fee which was overturned. I am seriously considering going to another ISP. Not happy, Vodafone.

Not only does Vodafone not work in the downstairs of the Park Hyatt, Melbourne. (This is a major venue for business and every other carrier works in full). Vodafone did not work in the South Melbourne Markets on Sunday 2nd of January.
I have just sorted out a new provider today.

You get what you pay for in this world!!

10330 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is the definition of incompetent at 4 Jan 2011 02:15:46 PM
1. Sign up to new contract with handset. Customer Service (CS) offers an additional $8 per month off handset repayments which doesn't show up in each bill. Spend every month calling CS to explain. They say they will fix it, but next month comes around without discount.

2. Pay mine, and my wife's, account every month over Internt using the online account provided by vodafone. 6 weeks ago (end Nov 2010), both login's fail. Call up CS and get an excuse that online account is temporarly down and should be fixed that evening. Now six weeks later and still unable to access online account and have not been provided with an excuse, nor a timetable. I'm a good customer, pay my bills on time, no problem. Why do I deserve such a service?

I belive its not neccessarly overseas call centre problem. Moreover poor decision making from Vodafone hierarchy? Typically really, when an organisation gets too big.

I'll definitely pay more for better service, just got to wait until it's a bit cheaper to break contract and churn.
4 Jan 2011 02:49:11 PM: Contact the Telecommunications Ombuddsman like i did. You will get out of your contract

10304 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Matt at 4 Jan 2011 01:00:50 PM
Recently I went on a trip with some mates around Victoria. We were all with different providers.

Friend1 was with Telstra and had reception most of the time.
Friend2 was with Virgin and reception was not much different to Telstra
Friend3 was with Three and when '3' reception was unavailable it would go to the next available provider (e.g.Telstra)

Me - Vodafone had extremely poor reception. Why can't Vodafone set up there network to go to another available network when theirs is unavailable or unreachable? This would then probably provide regular logs for issues as they would have to pay the other providers when connections occur.

Another interesting point was that when I returned from traveling I checked the Vodafone coverage map and most of the areas that I had reception issues were apparently supposed to have coverage. It would appear that someone is not telling the truth about coverage and maybe it is time the TIO or the Federal Communications Minister stepped in to Audit Vodafone and ensure that they are telling the truth. The fact that a CEO can claim in the Apology that 'recent intermittent network issues that have impacted some of our Vodafone customers' indicates to me that they have no idea what lack of service has really been provided to their customers over a long period of time.

10302 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor at 4 Jan 2011 12:57:41 PM
An observation about Vodafone (VF) coverage and peformance - we have been with VF for nearly 4 years and during that time we have observed that coverage has unquestionably and noticeably degraded. This despite the promises made by the staff when we re-signed after the 1st 2yr contract period. We are a business with 12 phones and we work throughout Victoria so we often experience no service/dropped calls and have several Telstra pre-paids which we use when working in these "no-go" areas. These "No-Go" zones are not diminishing - we still have the same problems today we had 4 years ago - what's worse is that we are experiencing more drop outs in local areas where we work and live - not to mention the 1 and 2 day old messages which lead to unhappy clients who you fear are thinking you might be fibbing when you tell them you didn't get their message for 2 days. We left Telstra after 10 years because they were incapable of stringing the words customer and service into the one sentence and were completely infexible to small business - we voted with our feet. Its nearing the time to vote again and we warming up the running shoes to make a fast getaway from VF - but where to go? The thought of going back to Telstra (despite their superior network) really chaps my hide and it seems from other peoples feedback that Optus is no better - Yuk!
