26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

It seems like my SGS2 phone only has 3G connection when it is idle! Internet connection is super slow and it could be compared with "dial-up". Coming into shopping centres is like going into caves with no coverage. Out of the metropolitan area would see no coverage easily - I was once going throught Dalesford, a famous tourist attraction of Victoria and found myself having a phone with no signal. My office is in Footscray, and some times our whole office would become a prehistoric place. too with all staff have no connection for a few minutes without any reasons. Our organisation switched to Vodafone because it is cheaper, and because we could not imagine how bad Vodafone would be

20508 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Escaping contract on death... at 2 Jan 2012 01:16:18 PM
My Father passed away on the 31st of October 2011, he had just signed up with Vodafone 1 month before his untimely passing on a dual contract with 2 phones, one for him and one for my mother.

I rang 'customer support' a fortnight after his passing after dealing with his death and going through the funeral etc to try and get the contract changed to my mothers name and find out what we could do about returning one of the phones as my mother can no longer afford or need to be paying a bill for two phones and contract(which isn't in her name as it stands). After going through 5 different people over a 2 hour period and having to explain the situation to each and every one of them, you can imagine the anguish I went through having to explain that I had just lost my father over and over again, I thought we had it under control....how wrong I was.

Mums phone was immediately disconnected as along the lines somewhere they had taken the wrong number as the one that needed to be disconnected. So back on the phone the next day and back through the same scenario of explaining over and over again to numerous call center staff. Mums phone was reconnected again.

2 weeks later a bill arrives for 2 phones and contract still in Dads name and Mums phone is disconnected again as the bill is now over due. Back on the phone again same as above and trying to keep calm through it all and not throw my phone at the wall....phone is reconnected once again.

A week or so later once again Mums phone is disconnected again, so at this stage I had enough of the 'customer support' and went down to one of their stores, living in a small rural town this is a 1/2 hour drive each way. When I first walked in the staff were all busy dealing with other customers both in the store and on the phone with their own problems so I waited the 15 minutes till one of them was free. Immediately knowing from the dumbfound look I was getting from the juniors that this was going straight over her head I was passed onto a more senior staff member and had to again explain the problem. So now she has to get on the phone to 'customer support' and goes through the same dance as I did. It was taking was taking a fair amount of time so the girl took down my number and told me she would call and let me know what was happening when she had it all 'sorted' and that we shouldn't need to return the other phone.

A week before Christmas Mum gets an SMS from Vodafone saying that she will be receiving a bill for $2500 and it is now passed due so her phone is once again disconnected. So I jump on the phone to the girl at the shop to try to get it sorted and she tells me Mum may have to come into the store to view her license to get the contract in her name but to give it a couple of days for it all to go through. 4 days later no call and Mums phone is disconnected again. I ring the store once more but the girl is off sick so I tell them I will call back after Christmas as we were going away anyway. Wednesday last week I call back and the girl is still off sick and will be for the rest of the week and is then going on 2 weeks leave....

I left details with the girl I spoke to and she got in contact with the first girl and they were going to look into it. Friday I get a call that its still being looked into by the first girl and being that its coming up on New Years it probably wont go through till Monday. Monday (today) still disconnected so I ring the store again and they are still waiting to hear from the first girl so here we stand still waiting 2 months after for it all to be sorted out.

I hope your having a giggle Dad.RIP.
2 Jan 2012 01:54:50 PM: First off I am very sorry to read of your father's death and our condolences are extended to you and your family at this very difficult time of year.

To the issue with your phones and your late fathers contract, from what you have said it certainly appears to me that VF have yet again failed in their duty of care to their customers.

Your solution however is very simple - - - - contact the TIO and tell them what you have told us, simple copy and paste of your post will suffice.

I think you have given VF a very fair crack of the whip with the resulting unnecessary and insensitive emotional trauma to both your mother and yourself.

It should be a clear cut process.

TIO details found at the top of the page under the How To Complain tab.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

9 Jan 2012 12:45:41 PM: Update 9/1/12: The saga continues...

I forwarded the information on to the TIO via a link to this post as it would not fit into their 1200 character box, received an email back saying they needed it to be sent via email or fax but I didn't worry about it as I foolishly gave Vodafone the benefit of doubt after receiving a call from the girls in the shop saying that the transfer staff would be contacting us within the week to get this sorted out.

We received a call from Vodafone Thursday last week from the transfer staff to get the account in Mums name all went well phone was reconnected again within 5 minutes all outstanding fees were waved second phone doesn't need to be returned and mum placed on a single account on the 50 a month plan.

Thought all was good and this was the end of it all until I received a call from mum on the land line this morning (Monday) saying she was back on call restrictions....

Email has now been sent to the TIO.
9 Jan 2012 02:47:12 PM: Lets hope VF now come to the party, what a nightmare for you and your Mother.........and just when you thought it was all resolved!!

22 Jan 2012 10:10:17 AM: Kudos to Vodafail, just got a call from the resolution center from a plain english aussie accented bloke asking if Mums phone had been sorted (which it has finally) with them profusely apologizing for what happened that he had read the post here and that they've given her the next three months free access.

20502 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is attempting to steal from non-customers at 31 Dec 2011 10:02:06 AM
I am not a customer of Vodafone, nor will I ever be. Imagine my surprise when Vodafone tried to debit my account as a non-customer - this is of course attempted theft or stealing. Fortunately it was an account I hardly ever use so there were insufficient funds so it was declined. I contacted my bank to put an immediate block on direct debits from Vodafone - the bank employee said "Oh, not another one!" Apparently this is an extremely common request. I contacted Vodafone to complain and naturally the Indian customer service agent wanted my bank account details, which most especially in view of Vodafone's poor privacy record, I vehemently refused to do. I explained that I could provide the date, transaction number and bank involved, but was told that insufficient information. Perhaps I should report them to the police for attempted theft?
31 Dec 2011 10:16:57 AM: Blimey! That is severe!

We have had one or two instances recorded on vodafail.com of similar situations, my daughter-in-law works for a well known bank and she told me it does happen on a very regular basis, of course that is only anecdotal evidence with no recorded statistical substance.

I think you are totally right not to give out your banking details to a CSR, but here is the rub.

I understand that direct debits (DD) can only be cancelled by the originator, in this case VF and as a customer you can only block a DD for one payment only. I am open to confirmation by VF staff or bank employees on that statement.

Would suggest that you watch your account again for the next attempt at DD (presumably next month) and should one occur go direct to the TIO with this matter, should the matter become even more persistent you may wish to consider the Privacy and Banking Ombudsman as well.

TIO contact details located under the How To Complain tab at the top of the page.

Please keep us informed of the position.

They are disreputable, disgraceful, disgusting and as for the mumble call centre in who knows where. AVOID THEM

20485 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is SIM TRANSFER FAIL at 29 Dec 2011 01:30:10 PM
After receiving my phone on December 21st and ringing on 22nd of December to get my phone SIM changed from 3 to Vodafone with the same number I have had nothing but trouble!

It is now December 29 and it has still not been transferred. On the second call to them they said they had no record of the transfer being submitted despite them still have the SIM number I gave them on the 21st.

3days later rang back again quite angry and they assured me it would be done in 3 hours and were very apologetic. Next day, still hasnt been transfer, ring again and the manager suggests it could take up to 10 days! I did my nut! Anyway they said it will be done by today. (not holding my breathe)

And the staff on facebook have suggested they will 'look into it'

5/ Oh no...they have replied again, fill them full of platitudes and excuses about systems being down - hopefully it will go away
6/ Oh no...another reply! Give them a unique code, hopefully they will not answer with a mail - hopefully it will go away
7/ Oh no...they have replied to the email, sit on it for a while - hopefully it will go away
8/ Oh no...they now want a response, tell them we work in chronological order - hopefully it will go away
9/ Oh no...they are persistent and want a reply, write saying you need more information - hopefully it will go away
10/ Oh no...they have replied with the information requested, sit on it for a while - hopefully it will go away
11/ They now want an answer - delete their posts - easy - they have gone away!

20472 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is terrible at 28 Dec 2011 11:17:59 AM
Location: Clifton Springs, VIC

Just got on a 2yr contract and im already thinking of paying it out within the next month to switch to telstra.

Reception seems to be non existent in my house and not much better outside. 95% of the time I have no service and cant even receive calls.
28 Dec 2011 12:12:16 PM: Try to get the non-reception issue with VF resolved with VF, if VF say the reception is OK then take the matter to the TIO.

Why should you have to pay to get out of a non-existent service?

It is a bit of a hassle to get the process started but you have to start somewhere!!

Suggest contact VF, ask for Network services, let VF trouble shoot see what the outcome is, if VF say all is good and the issue still is present take the matter to the TIO.

Let the 24 month contract run out to the last day. When I called in to say we were moving on they were deliberately un-cooperative, gave me the runaround etc. Got our last bill, called in to confirm this was the last bill and that no further amounts to be taken out and was rudely and patronisingly spoken to and then hung up on. GOODBYE FOR EVER. SINCE THEN have got 3 new mobiles, 1 with OPTUS, 1 with TPG and 1 with AMAYSIM (all on Optus network) The voice clarity is measurably better and the customer service from all of the new providers is light years ahead. HERE ME 3 & VODAFONE. NEVER EVER AGAIN - GOODBYE FOR ALL TIME

13 Jan 2012 09:10:50 AM: Go in to a store and see if you can get it repaired. If it still doesn't work afterwards, see if you can get an authorised swap in store as the Samsung Nexus doesn't support the 850mhz network. In Chadstone, there is normally sufficient reception for that particular network. Check the coverage on the VF website for specific areas first and see where the 850 network lies. - VF Employee

convinced to migrate from 3 to vodafone but was not told that there was poor vodafone coverage (virtually none) in my area. Constant phone calls to them and promises from them - telling my story over again each time and nothing improved. asked to go back to 3 network - they agreed but it never happened. eventually vodafone agreed that they could not provide a service in my area and released me from the contract. The equipment was returned. Now I have two accounts one from Vodafone for $1208 - because they say I left the contract early AND a bill from 3 for the same period for service usage!
all along I have had the worst customer service, outright lies and have been shunted from one person to another all of whom no nothing about the history of the complaint.
I have no intention of paying the accounts but where to from here?
26 Dec 2011 04:30:12 PM: The best thing to do is lodge a complaint with the TIO if you don't get anywhere complaining to Vodafone. More information can be found on the 'how to complain' page.

I recently decided to make the switch from 3 to Vodafone after I was called by a Vodafone rep. and offered a "deal". This woman told me that my wife and I could both receive the new iPhone 4s with a bigger cap for the same price as we were currently paying with 3. I was promised that the switch would take less than 24 hrs, but I have now been waiting for a week! I hope I'm not going to be charged for this delay on my next bill. Come on, Vodafone! I have been a Vodafone customer for 12 years. Recently the plan I had been on for 7 years was changed. I did not want to sign up for a new contract. So I opted to port my service to a pre-paid starter kit.
I activated my started kit, and added $50 of credit.
Then called Vodafone to port my number. The first time I called, I had someone repeat 'Welcome to Vodafone how may I help you?' 4 times in quick succession before hanging up on me! The next time I called I was told to call back during business hours, which I did, eventually I got through to someone who told me it was another department, fast forward 6 hours of being on hold over 3 calls today, and finally I am told, that I cant have my original number, it is impossible. Vodafone disconnected my original service and it can no longer be ported.

We put man on the moon, but I cant have my original mobile number.

Im going to Telstra.

There is a 'black spot' on Huntingdale Road, Oakleigh/Waverley (starting Ferntree Gully Road, finishing almost at High Street Road) that seems to 'move' during phone calls. I pass through this section of road morning and night to work and back. One phone call will drop out minimum of 6 or 7 times. I call back, talk 15 secs, drop out. Repeat,I call back, talk 15 secs, drop out. Clients love it. They think I'm great. NOT! This is just one example. I have gotten to the stage, where I know so many 'black spots' around Melbourne (due to my travel with work) that I just find a spot I know 'works' and pull over to answer calls. No point in having blue tooth and voice enabled answering if you cant fricken use it! As for the Blackberry network...lets not even GO there!.....Internet? Emails? I'd get a quicker response writing a letter and posting it the old fashioned way. I'm surprised though, that inner suburbs of Melbourne have so many blackspots with Vodafone. Shouldnt it just work? Maybe its just be expecting too much from a service provider that I pay monthly....

Transferring from 3 (for some reason I fell for the new 'improved transmission from Vodafone' patter), so got on the phone, actually spoke to an Australian, which was impressive, and transferred at no cost, plus got a great internet pack. So far so good. Then the fun starts. No response after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks. Hmmm. Where's my new SIM? Next time, no Australians involved, straight to Bangalore. "Sorry you can go into any Vodafone store and get a new SIM", "No, please send me one in the mail" "Well, it can be 7 working days!". So I get the new SIM finally, and of course it is not working at all - why? Because after 6 weeks, the migration hasn't even been completed!!

Back to Bangalore...First attempt "Hello this is Ranjan, may I have your name please?" I give my name. "Hello, this is Ranjan, your name please? If I cannot hear a response I will have to terminate the call. Goodbye!" Second attempt..."Hello this is Raj, sorry for the wait, high call volumes today! (So a patent liar as well as a poor performer) You don't seem to have been migrated yet - I will put you straight through to the migrations team where there is no waiting period." Transfers me...."Sorry, due to an emergency, we are unable to provide you with service at this time...meanwhile, why not check out our website..." beep...beep...beep.

That's how fail vodaflop is. Bunch of fraudsters. Let's shut them down.

I have changed to vodafone from 3 and it has been over 48hours they have cancelled my 3 phone yet I still have no service on my new phone and I dont have it on my old phone either. Vodafone are extremely unhelpful dealing with this issue considering I was told to change with them by 3 (bad move), they are yet to properly explain why this is happening and want me to sit on the line for another 45minutes while they transfer me to 3 to ask them why I have no service on the phone, although I can answer that myself BECAUSE I AM NO LONGER WITH 3!! I am sick of phone companies that clearly do not respect customers and the amount of money we pay a month for a service that does not even work!

Despite my next bill being due on January 1, 2012, I was asked to cough up $450 on the spot to keep my account active. I did this as I cannot afford not to but felt bullied in to doing so. Once this contract is up I'm changing carriers. Customers who are with Vodafone long term are clearly dispensable.

I am having to work from home today due to being ill, first thing this morning unable to speak to work because they can't hear me, second can't speak to any of my customers because they can't hear me. Call Vodafone they can't hear me. So I go the store to be told they think there is an issue, I'm one of twenty people in the store complaining... Only the western suburbs seem to be affected, but not Laverton?!?!? They can't advise of a time for it to be fixed as they don't know if there is an issue, Vodafone you suck!

I have not been able to take or make calls for 2 days now. People ring but they can't hear me. I hear them just fine. Same if I ring people.

Vodafone insist they knew nothing about this issue until I rang even though there are 3 other people in this office having the same issue or they have a friend with the issue.

Actually, that's not true. The first Indian I spoke to told me there was an issue in Melbourne. The second one told me there are no known issues on the network. But he assured me, after some clicking on the keyboard, that my issue would be fixed in an hour.

If there is no issue then what is there to fix?

I want these arsehats to stop lieing to me. My contract expires end of this month and so does my time with them!
9 Dec 2011 12:10:58 PM: Hi, having the same problem on a blackberry. If I turn of 3G calls work OK, so must be something up with their 3G network.

20268 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is very fail at 8 Dec 2011 08:12:05 PM
Signed up with Telstra seven hours ago and am still waiting for my number to port out of Vodafone. Vodafone told the Telstra assistant that the port could take up to 2 weeks due to technical difficulties...

Also have a couple friends experiencing issues recharging their Vodafone Prepaid services as I write this.

9 Dec 2011 04:27:45 AM: 2 weeks to port a number that should only take 3 hours is completely ridiculous! Probably Vodafone can not handle the amount of people leaving their network, so they are slowing it down to snail pace... It took 6 days for me to port my number from Vodafone to Optus prepaid. Try calling Telstra after the 2nd or 3rd day and escalate the issue with their porting department. They will make porting your number a top priority but they may have to send another porting request. I've done this to Optus on a Saturday and by Monday afternoon my number was out of the RED (Voda) zone... :)
9 Dec 2011 04:37:26 AM: Also, don't bother calling Vodafone to ask how long it would take to port out your number from their network... CS reps will just tell you that the WHOLE porting system in Australia is down and that the fault is not with them... Typical Vodafone... I ported a number from Telstra to Optus yesterday and it took less than 5 minutes to transfer my number across...
9 Dec 2011 08:25:11 AM: i ported from TPG to telstra a couple of weeks ago, took 3 hours, wasn't too bad. 2 weeks is a bit beyond a joke. it is indeed typical vodafail.
9 Dec 2011 10:36:10 AM: FYI - Ported across at 9:30 this morning, so it took roughly 18 hours. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Cheers,
Original Poster.
9 Dec 2011 02:36:56 PM: I have been waiting 5 days to have my number ported from Vodafone to Telstra. They told me it could be another week or so. I've spoken to Telstra twice (yesterday and today) and they advised that they're waiting for Vodafone to release the number. I called Vodafone every day since Monday and they continue to say it's a techinical problem and they can't do anymore. Any suggestions?
9 Dec 2011 02:48:15 PM: good question, you could go to your state's administrative tribunal if you wanted to, but it can take 4 months to process an application with them and have the matter heard, so I don't think it will help. Unless Vodafail take longer than 4 months, ok maybe it could help :s

20251 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Vodafone sent me a promotion text which doesn't work! at 7 Dec 2011 04:56:36 PM
Vodafone sent me a text on 6/12/2011 that said if I recharge on Text and Talk in next 7 days, I'll get triple amount of free text and talk inclusions in 24 hours.
and the text follows by a link for the promotion, which is not working at all! I tried it several times, nothing!
I couldn't find any info anywhere!just some other people wrote about the same problem!
http://annystudio.com/misc/vodafone-problems/
so I consider it as a fake promotion from Vodafone!
7 Dec 2011 07:23:41 PM: According to http://annystudio.com/misc/vodafone-problems/ , those links only work if opened from a mobile phone. They never work on computers. Very frustrating! I have a basic phone (and happy with it), and this looks like an attempt to push me towards getting a more expensive phone.
10 Dec 2011 02:48:38 PM: It's legit. I tried it out, and actually got exactly what it said. (I'm not kidding too). At first though, when I called 1512, it didn't work (I didn't get triple), but I called again, I think the next day and I actually got the 300 free text. Also, Vodafone had sent me a text the day after I recharged, saying: Thanks for recharging. We've included triple the amount of Free TXT & Free Talk inclusions for your next 2 TXT&Talk recharges. I hope this helps.

So, today, after wo days of waiting, i recharged my phone. Only a 20 dollar prepaid top up, but the system had been down for two days, so i waited. Then i was BOMBARDED with text messages of thanks and free offers of TRIPLE the free talk time and texts........and to go to supplied web addresses with codes to get more info. NONE OF THE SUPPLIED ADDRESSES CONNECT TO ANYTHING !!! Surprised? Not ME !
7 Dec 2011 10:16:36 AM: I have been trying to recharge my prepaid account since 3 December. They didn't say anything about the problems until the next day (not on their website, nor there was the automated message when you call 152) and I was worried up until I found the http://annystudio.com/misc/vodafone-problems/ blog and could see that I am not alone with this failure. It's 7 December today, and every time I call to check my account, the same robot tell me that there are still problems with Vodafone recharge. Today I received a text informing me that my spend was at $100 due to excess data usage. This does not include my monthly plan costs of $60, meaning my bill will be in excess of $170 for this month. I feel that this is an excessive amount over the basic plan costs to be warning your customers about their spend. Other carriers will warn when they have reached 80% of their entitlements. If it is possible to warn at $100, it must be possible to warn at either a lower limit or at a percentage entitlement left. I have been with Vodafone for 15 years and am now seriously considering both lodging a formal complaint with the ombudsman and switching carriers.
8 Dec 2011 02:59:52 PM: I got the same text, they had agreed to not charge me for the lst 2 mths of my bill because they would have my coverage issues sorted by December. I now get a bill for excess usage and they can't help me because the network is down and my bill takes 5 days to be generated for me to check my calls etc.
leaving voda on Saturday for someone better.

20213 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Utterly useless!!! at 5 Dec 2011 07:17:19 PM
Hello,
Coming to you from Geelong, Melbourne, courtesy of an expensive Telstra network because Vodafail is beyond useless.

Just transferred from 3 to Vodafail, was getting a huge data roaming charge on 3 because it couldn't get reception on the 3 network and would roam onto Optus or Telstra, had to turn 3G off to prevent excess charge but would still receive calls and get texts (except MMS because no 3G).

Decided to migrate to Vodafail when I got an email telling me the 3 network was being phased out and I would have to move across to Vodafail if I wanted to continue using my mobile.

Migrated across and now it changes from "SOS only, Searching..., NO SERVICE, SOS Only, Searching..., to 1 bar signal and sometimes on the rarest off occasions, 2 bars signal.

Vodafail drops calls, gets texts hours later, doesn't connect to the network half the time, let alone getting 3G reception.

AND on top of that the first bill I received was $30 OVER the cap because of some miscellaneous network charge?!

Vodafail should be ashamed of their network coverage, or lack there of, and customer service and should instead of spending thousands on public sporting figure endorsements and publicity, should focus on upgrading the pity-full network coverage before the TIO and ACCC are forced to do something. Or there is a class action that finds Vodafail in breach of there obligations as a service provider and they are forced to pay compensation to thousands of disgruntled customers.

Sincerely,

Another pissed-off Vodafail customer.
10 Dec 2011 05:23:28 AM: I think there is 30 days warranty period for network issue. you can cancel your contract because of that. it is on their website.
10 Jan 2012 08:03:30 PM: All sorted out!!!
I was all prepared to tear them another one walking into the store but with the assistance of a very helpful staff member, who is on Telstra themselves. Cancelled the contract, sent the phone back.

Now on Telstra (Devils spawn I'm aware but willing to pay for a infallible service)

Enjoying all the benefits of my new network with 3G speeds around 3-4 times more than Vodafail (when I'm at home compared to when Vodafail was in the middle of the city!!!) And no excess data usage charges so my bill is actually about $30 cheaper on Telstra than when on 3 and Vodafail anyway!!!

I will never use the 3 or Vodafail service (or lack there of) EVER again and have told anyone and everyone I know and meet about the beyond ridiculously poor service provided (or not provided).

I sincerely hope you sort out your priorities and instead of hiring celebrity sports-people to advertise your service, you funnel your funding into upgrading your 'network' to something that resembles a phone service before ALL of your customers wise-up to the disgraceful service you supposedly provide, and leave the network as your share price plummets and you go into receivership...we can only hope!

So long Vodafail Hutchinson, I bid you good day and tell you to shove it sideways!!!

Sincerely,

Another (previously) pissed-off Vodafail customer.

Bought the new HTC sensation XE through these bastards and barely a week had passed when the screen cracked.. I am ridiculously careful with my phones and ive still got my Iphone 3gs in immaculate condition. I have a feeling it might of had something to do with the faulty case, as it was causing the bottom right corner of the glass to sit higher than the case. Anyway I called HTC about it and they said it should be covered under warranty so I was pleased with that, but when I spoke to Vodafone it wasn't the case. How can they do this!? The manufactures warranty means they can take my phone and send it back to HTC and let them deal with it. Instead they are going to try and charge me $300 or so just because they sold me a faulty phone.

I have been waiting for nearly 2 weeks and still no word from Vodafail. They initially told me it would be a 1 or 2 day wait at most. And just then I got hung up on by someone from their service call centre while I was trying to find out if there was any news about what was happening with my phone.

Vodafone.. never again

After 24 months of no reception, call drops, no data connection etc with Vodafone I finally got out of my contract... easy?... not quite.
Apparently a system outage at Vodafone means that whilst Vodafone have cut off my number with them, they cannot release it to be ported over to Telstra... so I now have no phone at all and probably won't do for a week until Vodafone pull their finger out and fix their system.
One final slap in the face from Vodafone which about sums up their sheer incompetence. I cannot emphasise enough how much I really hope they go bust and have to pull out of the Australian market, they're a joke

I have the Samsung Galaxy S2, crowned best smartphone / smartphone of the year by many magazines and tech sites.. its been brought down to its knees thanks to Vodafone. 3G performance is rotten. Live in Fitzroy, work in Docklands.. both area suffers from 3G dropout. Even Melbourne CBD has few blank spots. Worst of all, because the phone constantly hunts for signals, battery life has suffered. I only have another 12 months to go and then off to the big T with its extortionate pricing.. but I guess, you get what you paid for!

I received my latest bill which was $50 over cap due to 'third party charges'. In the bill breakdown these all appeared as music downloads on the same day in the space of half an hour (when I was at work, with my phone in my pocket). I called vodafone to have the charges removed as I'm 100% sure that NO Music was downloaded to my iPhone. I was repeatedly told that I was wrong an that I, or someone else, had downloaded music to my handset through vodafone live, hence the charges. Whenever I mentioned the fact that this was impossible as I was at work, with my phone in my pocket, and that there is, ad never was, a single song on my phone or in my download history I was made out to be a liar, and told the best they could do was give me a 50% refund.

So either I've been scammed by vodafone, who've made a mistake and won't admit it... Or my account has been crammed by someone but vodafone don't want to know about it. Either way I'm pretty angry because I'm the one who's out of pocket.. And when I've tried to talk to them about it I've just been told that I'm wrong.

Great customer service vodafail.

20059 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Enourmously at 21 Nov 2011 02:17:02 PM
In the previous month (bill ending October 20th), I had 428mb of internet data remaining on my account at 10:59 October 20th 2011. I regularly check my internet data usage because I don't want to go over the limit and accrue big fines.

When Vodafone generated the bill for the month ending October 20th, I found out that my data usage was over the limit. I found out a few days later that Vodafone had only been updating their usage every 5 days (due to their technical difficulties).

I contacted Vodafone about the issue, they informed me that it took 24 to 48 hours to update their internet data usage. Fair enough, but it obviously took much longer.

If I was provided with an appropriate update every 1 to 2 days, I would not have used more data than I had to use. I have called Vodafone repeatedly about this problem. They say it is my fault for using the data, even though they agree their system was not updating for 5 days at a time.

I had a bill of $136 extra to pay. They agreed to halve it to $69 in extra charges. But I haven't paid it because I don't believe I am in the wrong.

I have just ended another month with a bill ending on November 20th. This past month I have been very careful to stay under the data usage. I have a screenshot of my data usage available (showing 1.4gb of internet data) available at 20:01 on 20th November 2011.

Now I am being told that I have an extra charge of $22 for the November month. There is no way that I went over the internet data usage charge. When I call Vodafone, they tell me to wait until the bill is generated.

Vodafone can't tell me why they have charged me an extra $22 in November. All they can say is it must be from the October month. There service has been useless. I end a 12 month contract with them at the end of December. There is no chance that I will ever choose them again.

I have moved house, wanting to switch from 3 to Vodafone to avoid roaming data charges. Should be simple, but have now been in a porting limbo for 24 hours. I tried to activate the new SIM using the automated phone facility. The only thing that happened is that a bill turned up in my e-mail for $0, but the 3 service remained active. Tried to call before 8:00pm when the porting team close, but was on hold for too long, so I gave up. Called again later and tried tech support, got a "hello" from a human after 35 minutes, but got dumped back at the start of the queue again, and then after 50 minutes had a conversation which resulted in me being told the porting team was closed. The call centre have agreed to call me at 7:00pm tomorrow. I'll bet the don't, but I can hope.

If Vodafone actually set about deliberately destroying their brand and business, they'd do a fine job. They clearly know how to.

20029 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Makes my blood boil - vodafone is criminal at 17 Nov 2011 03:13:42 PM
I have been a Vodafone customer for about 4 years. In that time, I have been consistently faced with the most incrediblly incompetent and infuriating service I have ever experienced in my life. Dealing with dropped calls, no coverage, bungled payments is mind bogglingly infuriating but pales in comparison to going through the process of speaking to a Vodafone consultant in India, which takes an hour each time when you actually get through, and they have no record of previous agreements reached for the account on earlier extended calls. Just today, I had my phone cut off out of NOWHERE after calling vodafone on Monday to get a payment extension until Friday, which was granted. I actually paid my bill onWednesday - but SURPRISE, my phone is blocked by Thursday morning. Vodafone is a joke and a failure! I am a peaceful and relaxed person most of the time. My home was recently unfortunately burgled and we lost most of our valuable items. The next day, the police were trying to call me ALL DAY - they called me 10 TIMES - and although I had full service on my mobile, none of the calls came through. I know this is something to do with vodafone Because other people tell me the same thing REGULARLY. With 100 percent honesty, I can say my anger and frustration at being burgled was only a fraction of the sheer frustration I went through going through a run of the mill conversation with a vodafone employee the next day who (surprise!) had no record of a $100 credit being applied to my account a month earlier after I complained about the issues with coverage and being overcharged. Thanks for wasting another few hours of my life Vodafone, for NOTHING. I honestly don't have anything in my life that makes my blood boil like this. Vodafone is a DISGRACE and an embarrassment to our nation. They have lost yet another longstanding customer that would have stayed if they didn't so consistently royally screw things up for $200 per month. EXTORTION.
18 Nov 2011 04:36:48 PM: The lesson here for everyone is to make sure you get the CSR's full name, his VF id, the incident number of the call (yes they do have them), record the date and time and what was said.

Using these few simple steps does focus their mind set and when I have used this method the CSR's are slightly taken aback but they are then aware you also have a VF record of the call..............unless they cut you off before giving the required information.........yes that has happened to me as well..........

20026 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is on a scale of 10, 1 million. at 17 Nov 2011 09:01:42 AM
A simple one really. I would like to cancel my contract with vodafone as they provide poor service compared to Telstra. I have many dropped calls, called voda a few times, been offered different settings. Didn't improve one bit. When I finally called the cancellations team, I get yelled at by the person.

18 Nov 2011 08:05:42 AM: Exact same - I have had EXACTLY the same thing happen yesterday and today. They cannot suspend your service unless you've not paid a bill, and they can't bar calls if you're disputing via the TIO - I haven't even gotten the bill for this extortionate amount, and am already speaking with TIO and they've barred me. 15 Nov 2011 12:54:23 PM: i think TIO would love this story & i do hope you have gotten in contact the the "other party" as they would also like to know about this total failure of VF
16 Nov 2011 08:03:36 AM: hi the "other party" has been called he got $5 off his bills but did not know just how much of his info i have. he is not happy.
17 Nov 2011 07:09:52 PM: Well this just got better i have now had the handsets we never got added to the final bill how do i get aca contact information?
18 Nov 2011 04:25:37 PM:
Wow you have been through the VF meat grinder!

As suggested start with the TIO, the details may be found at the top of the page under the How To Complain tab.

The TIO online complaint form will take less than 10 minutes to complete, you can copy and paste what you have written above.

I have used it twice now and it is easy.

VF then have 10 working days to respond to your complaint, they contact you, suggest you get pen/paper ready and take down the callers details, name, CSR id date and time of call and what was said.

The complaints team will try to make a mutually agreed satisfactory outcome, it could be half price payments over a certain period of time or termination of contract with no exit fees.

Your decision, but my intent was to rid myself of the extremely poor VF service and I did.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

15 Dec 2011 11:25:48 AM: I had written Mammoth fail on the 15 of November and this is an update.
I have kept fighting this and started to record all of my conversations with Vodafone as the notes that Vodafone keep are completely miss leading I was having one conversation where I was told point blank that no one would have said that to me so I replayed the voice recording to her she then tried to tell me that it was because I had confused the operator!
In the end I think that I have won we had 2 accounts with Vodafone this is what I have gotten
Account 1
Waive early termination fees $772.56
Waive all owing charges (have not payed anything since this started) $325.31
All money back for hand set payment $45
Compensation $200
Account 2
Waive early termination fee $823.01
Waive all owing charges $483.06
Compensation $38

I have gotten letters to confirm that both accounts are completely clear
The $38 and $45 was credited to the credit card and the $200 will be credited to my bank with in the next 5 days it was a long fight but in the end I got what I wanted and I will never go back to Vodafone for anything!

20000 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is HORRIBLE at 15 Nov 2011 07:13:44 AM
I am being overbilled - I've spent hours on the phone discussing ti with them too. Their website constantly forces you to login again. I changed from 3 to Vodafone in response to their offers, and specifically was told (a) it would be the end of my bills from 3 (I am still getting bills from them) and (b) Facebook is free, including links visited. I am not surprised to find this is not the case, but I did doublecheck, at the time. So I have since spent 3 hours on the phone getting that first bill waived, but they then went back on this and billed me anyway. And when it was not paid (the money didn't come out of my account, because I don't have that much in my account) my phone is now not able to send texts, make calls, or use the Internet. Fantastic.

19977 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor mobile broadband coverage at 13 Nov 2011 06:01:22 PM
I live in Williamstown, VIC and have been using Vodafone's mobile broadband for the last year with no major problems. But in the last few weeks the connection has dropped down to dial up speeds. I've rung repeatedly, done every check there is. The pocket wifi modem is working fine in other places, but now for some inexplicable reason not in my house. I am nearly out of contract and will have to try another carrier. No one can offer an explanation why reception in my house has suddenly changed. Just an inconsistent and unreliable service.

I said i bet that hasn't been offered to everyone, and that it would be great getting it for free, IF IT WORKED! So, week three, i can't be arsed calling them again, They said they called me back, but i had no missed call, so i figure it was either a lie, or they were using their own product and the call COULDN'T make it through. Transferred from 3 network to Vodafone on the promise of the Iphone4. Now 3 isn't the greatest network going but I thought it was okay. You would think that Vodafone being in the same stable as 3 would have similar coverage.
We holiday near Yarrawonga on the Vic/NSW border and once you get about 10 km out of Yarrawonga there is no Vodafone coverage.
Well, you might say. That is not unusual, you are in the rural areas, coverage is not as good. The strange thing is my daughter is still with 3 and gets perfect coverage where Vodafone doesn't. Both of us have the same phone also.
How is this possible when they are supposedly the same company and network now?
12 Nov 2011 09:49:32 AM: 3 when roaming uses the Telsra network, not Vodafones...

Ive been with vodafone from last 3 months and i have 3 bars sometimes they drop to 1 and sometimes my iPhone shows searching on top anyways i have 1.5 gig of data that finished so fast coz i shifted my home and didnt had the internet there. I couldnt keep any track of how much data i used coz there system does not show me real time usage data. My data usage exceed by $8 and i called customer service, the guy gave me 500 MB to use and the next day i was happy i just have $8 up but when i checked my account balance it was up by $249 i called them and they told me its because of our system is designed in a way that does not show real time update. i was so pissed i told that guy in india that it use to show me when i was with optus but he keep saying tht there is no provider that tells you ur real time data. I told him its just to benefit the company and he had no answer even 3 updates their usage every day at 9 and vodafone do it after 48 hours and still that customer service told me you have to keep track and i told that idiot how can i keep track if you update it every 48 hours.. Im so pissed i want to get rid of it can anyone tell me how to make complaint about them and their shitty service?

19936 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is CRAP CUSTOMER SERVICE at 9 Nov 2011 03:13:35 PM
I have been trying to get information/service with regards to a plan I've just signed up with. I have tried calling them, using their online services (and I use the term loosely) as well as in person at one of their shops, all to NO AVAIL. The two issues I was trying to get help with were 1) changing my address that was from 4 years ago and was in a completely different state 2) to find out where my new phone was that I had ordered and received no notification of how long it would take to deliver or any email confirmation of my payment.

On the phone, I was put on hold for 45 minutes after the automated voice told me it would be a 4-minute wait. I was then informed that the query I had was meant to go to another dept so the person on the other line put me on hold to redirect my call. I waited another half hour before I just go so pissed of I hung up. I then went through their callback system to get another useless operator (who is clearly aware that there are no consequences for crap customer service) who then told me he's going to put me on hold to re-direct my call. I was too angry to wait again so I told him I refuse to wait another hour to have either of my issues addressed. I told him I wanted to cancel the plan. He said he'll have to re-direct my call. What exactly is the point in calling the "help" line, when if you do, there is NO HELP on the other end, just redirecting?

I then tried to log-in online. Again instead of being redirected by a person, I was 'redirected' to pages that either timed out or just didn't load. I was going through their "helpful" tips because I thought I might be doing something wrong. Now, I'm in IT so I'm not unfamiliar with navigating through sites. Their site it just completely UNHELPFUL and cluttered to manoeuvre through. I feel this is a deliberate tactic to confuse the consumer. There are loads of sections that are similarly named but with different information. Completely useless to garner any sort of useful information.

I then tried to go into the shop only to be left waiting in line, to get a ticket to wait in yet another queue. This is the sort of business practice their executives think is going to get them more clients?

I think everyone who has had an issue with Vodafone needs to post their discontent on every social media site possible. This is unacceptable as well as unethical business practice. I'm fairly shocked at the rapid decline of their service since they merged with Three. I am also going to be posting on travel sites that all travellers and expats should avoid using Vodafone in Australia (regardless of what their experiences were in other countries, because mine in the UK was ok). Regardless of how appealing it sounds, it's all a ploy to steal your hard earned money and ruin your day if you ever have the misfortune of having to call them for any assistance.

Thanks for letting vent.

My phone only works about 30% of the time (msgs not sending meaning i have to resend and resend, no internet reception, not receiving phone calls so that it goes through to voicemail and I have to pay to retrieve the msg and call the caller back - ALL will full bars but no data download).

I wonder as it only works 30% of the time Vodafone would be willing to accept 30% of the bill I am charged?
8 Nov 2011 12:52:00 PM: Call them up with that offer and see what they say. If you are not getting what you signed up for and paid for then you have a legitimate complaint. Follow the steps on the how to complain page and don't hesitate to contact the TIO if Vodafone isn't helpful.

19917 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is has Lying & Useless customer service team at 8 Nov 2011 12:26:12 PM
Lets start with the switch from 3 Mobile to Vodafail! 3 were fantastic for over 5 years! Still not officially with Vodaphone but already hate them! They lie, lie, lie and fail in every area!
Called to switch over from Vodaphone to 3 on the 10th October 2011, all good phone to be there between 3-5 days! 7 days later no phone! Check website, it says upto 10 days for a new switch over! Call up they say to wait for 10 days(you did said 3-5 to start with)! Ok 10 days come around and still no phone! Call up and they have stuffed up a whole shipment of new phones! There is no way to track them as they ruined the tracking numbers! Thanks Vodaphone! Told to wait another week as they are dealing with it! Call back again, now out to 16 days, they cant find it, try calling the dispatcher or AAE! Call them, they say they dont deal with consumers, only vodaphone! AAE cant find it cos the tracking numbers are wrong! (why I am calling and not them, i dont no! its their job to call around and fix it not me!)Call back Vodaphone, this time they decide to do it for me! Man calls dispatcher many times and says they are not there! Well the lying little man was told that I called 10 minutes before I called him and they answered my call! He places me on hold again and calls them again, surprise surprise they answer this time! But they cant help me and then calls AAE and they say its somewhere, but they cant say where, but the problem has been fixed and it is transit! Told to wait until the following Friday, will be there, no problems im assured! That Friday comes around, now 25 days since I started, and no phone! Call back and they try to go through the whole process again, and this time I tell them to sort it out themselves and call me back! They do and say that AAE where unable to deliver the package! How or why they dont no but it is being returned to the dispatcher! I speak with AAE and after talking to them we discover that Vodaphone stuffed up the address which is why it didnt get there! Ask Vodaphone why they didnt call me "as you are not a customer we are unable to contact you" - again LIES - I am a Vodaphone mobile broadband customer(which by the way doesnt work and is as slow as dial up and I live 5 minutes from the CBD in St Kilda Road), I tell them and they ignore me, they seem to know im right but just cant say anything!
So now ask where to from here and can they send the phone again, no they have 'cancelled your order and you must now reorder'! Could not understand this but go through the whole ordering process again and lets see how it goes, BUT I am told that as the phone I am after is in high demand there will be an extended wait on the product! I lose it after that, after 25 days I am told they now dont have the phone in stock and I have to wait after I have signed up for a second time! After he stuffs around for a bit he finally says he can get my original returned phone, sent back out to me, but I have to wait for it to be returned! better than nothing, but why they couldn't just do that instead of re-signing up I will never no!
Now I still sit here waiting 29 days later and still no phone! Now onto their complaints department and TIO!

One day for no reason I lost all reception on my phone. After 2 months, that's right, 2 months, of contacting Vodafone and being passed around, told complete lies, having to deal with total idiots, I called and told them I would be cancelling my contract with no fees, they tried to get me to pay but I told them where to go. NEVER use this company. I laugh at all the ads they have out now trying to get customers back. I will tell every single living being about how horrible they are to deal with. They blatantly lied to us about what was happening just to try and keep us as customers. SCUM.

19890 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is *In Lara's voice*: "Thank you for calling Vodafone. We will now try to screw you over as quickly and as thoroughly as possible. Please enjoy my caucasian-sounding voice, as it's the last one you'll hear for the next hour." at 7 Nov 2011 12:36:04 PM
My $29 Jumbo Cap ran out on November 3rd, which I recharged over the phone with my debit card. I was then able to use my phone for the next two days.

All of a sudden, on the morning of November 5th, my phone tells me I've run out of credit. I checked my bank-statement online and, of course, the $29 was on there, clear as day, processed to Vodafone. And yet, it the almighty brick tells me that I've used all my credit.

"Impossible!", I declare, "I could never have done such a thing, as I work very hard all day and couldn't possibly have had the all-encompassing troll-like dedication to use $150 worth of credit in two days!"

So I ring up the help lady, and she's automatically aggressive towards me, which I hate, because I'm so very reasonable and so is my enquiry. I tried to explain to her my predicament, and she is telling me that their must have been a billing issue, and that my payment was never processed on their end, futhermore, they don't have a record of my order.

In order for my recharge to be processed (which, she says, will take 30 days), I have to fax them a paper version of my bank statement.

Why then, oh knowledgable Vodafone lady, was I able to make calls/send texts from the 3rd to the 5th, when I had no credit on the morning of the 3rd? HMM?

Furthermore, the lady tells me that to make up for my inconvenience, they're going to double my credit the next time I recharge. Which is no help to me, as I only recharge because it runs out after a month, not because I eat through the credit, which is why I always get the cheapest option in the first place. Grrrrrr.

Why do they offer these technological services if they don't work?
21 Nov 2011 12:34:51 PM: These technological services DO work. They just don't want it to so that they can screw you over.

After being able to use my online account for the first six months of my contract, my online account was cancelled. I couldn't log in to my online account for five months. I waited at a vodafone store for 45 minutes, and when I told the employee my problem he said "I can't do anything" and walked away. When I called customer service they told me to register my phone online which I attempted countless times. Everytime I tried to register my phone they sent a password by txt message to my phone, and everytime I entered it online it was rejected as an "invalid password". The issue was resolved only after I made a complaint to the telecommunications Industry Ombudsman. I will never go with Vodafone again and luckily I only have 2 months left on my contract. I can't wait
