26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

17282 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Reception - what's that? at 26 Apr 2011 07:17:39 PM
I don't know whether it has anything to do with Vodafone joining with 3 (which I left because of hopeless reception to go to Vodafone) but, where I used to receive reception at my house and at work, not any more. That's just the phone, internet is hopeless. I've never managed to speak to anyone at customer support because I've been on hold for so long and had other obligations that don't allow me to wait on a phone indefinitely. don't know what to do

I have been over charged while roaming for "long texts - with no clear explanation of why or how to avoid & I travel regularly; have had to spend expensive roaming charges to communicate while overseas because texts were not operational (to the tune of a couple of hundred dollars); am getting constant texts/missed calls from sales team trying to upgrade me - despite the fact that I now own my own handset & have been trying to change to a sim-only plan; coverage & drop outs have become intolerable - esp. at home - but was assured there should be no problem in my area; have been verbally abused by customer service rep - apology voicemail rec'd and acknowledgement of inappropriateness but no compensation despite costs of calls & time taken to resolve issue (hours+days)... BUT biggest complaint is the inability to discuss my contract & other issues/options with a reasonable, honest & lucid representative - Need an alternative!!

17270 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 26 Apr 2011 07:10:04 PM
I recently complained about my service levels... Now I used to live in Bacchus Marsh and used to get OK 3G reception... I moved to Southbank 3 months ago and I have no more than 1 bar of reception in my apartment or at my work on Flinders Lane, Melbourne... Frustrating!!! When I spoke to customer care and was informed the following... That A - My last bill was going to be credited onto my account and B - I would receive 25% off my next 3 months bills... I was feeling good again.. Now a month later I received my bill and well firstly i was still being charged for the previous month, secondly the 25% had not been applied and thirdly I had been charged for international calls... Ummm as far as i know to make international calls you need to know people international... I was really annoyed so I called them back to speak to them... All they said to me was that because the notes on the system did not state the A option I was not entitled to this.. I said that I do not think that it was fair that I was paying for a service that I was not getting... The customer service team then said to me that because it was the technical team that I spoke to on the first call that they would need to call me back in 20 minutes after speaking to the tech team..... 7.5 hours later they called me back and said the same thing that because the notes did not state that I was having a bill waivered that i was not entitled to it... I also asked about the international calls and was advised that i would still have to pay for them... I asked to speak to the team leader and was told that was pointless as i would be told the same thing.. She also stated that the team leader was in a meeting.. I said i was willing to wait for them... She can back after 20 minutes on hold and said that the 25% discount was being applied and that the last months bill was being waivered but would still have to pay for international calls... I said fine I will call the TIC

17268 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is horrified at 26 Apr 2011 07:09:37 PM
I have a disabled sister and a sick mother whom I`m both next of kin for. My phone is my lifeline. If the hospital need to get a hold of me or my mother needs me I need to make sure I have my phone on and working at all times. I have currently been with Vodafone for the past 9 months and in this time I have experienced constant drop outs, sometimes I can`t use the phone for days at a time. Last sunday (Easter Sunday) I couldn`t text or receive a text. I have spoken to Vodafone numerous times but nothing is ever done. I`m stuck in the contract for 2 years and am seriously considering getting another phone and just riding this contract out at a loss!!

I have been having issues with my phone ever since i begun my contract with Vodafone last year. I am constantly facing problems relating to:
1. dropped calls
2. delayed SMS and voicemails
3. dropped coverage consistently during the day
4. slow data and internet
5. phone constantly freezes
6. multiple charges for a single SMS
7. SMS's sending multiple times without my permission (THE LIST GOES ON)

Vodafone assured me that the coverage in my area was being improved over a month ago but all i have noticed is increasing problems and no solutions..Disgraceful!

17263 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Colonoscopic at 26 Apr 2011 07:02:04 PM
I signed up to a 24 month Vodafone contract in Nov 2009. At the time I was upsold to include a monthly insurance premium at approx $10 per month. It is nice to have the peace of mind she tells me at the store. Two months later my brand new IPHONE stops working, no coverage picked up at all anywhere.

So I take it back to the store and they tell me they have to send it in. 2 weeks later I receive an SMS with a quote for $276 to repair the phone. WTF I say. It is still under warranty and I also have friggin insurance. We have found that it has water damage and that is covered by neither.

I can assure you the phone looked fine from the outside and I didn't go for a dip in the bay with the bloody thing in my pocket. No budging from the lady at the Vodafone store - COME AND GET YOUR PHONE she says.

So I have worn it like a d#mbc*nt for the last 18 months until some dooshbag came into my place of business 3 weeks ago assuring me I could receive a free upgrade to a new phone on one of their new deals. I tell him that I am still under contract for 6 months and he assures me he can take care of that so we make an appointment to meet the next day.

I prepare for the meeting by looking up and printing old bills and having my account number etc etc etc all ready to go. He tells me the next day that he can't do anything for me regarding the current contract but can offer me a free accessory pack on the new phone. So do you want me to start the paper work he says?

I nearly buried my fist in his head and told him to pierce auff.

Last Thursday he came back....

17261 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Atrocious at 26 Apr 2011 07:01:33 PM
Last year I went on holiday to Hong Kong and Thailand. Before going, I did the right thing, went into a vodafone office to have my phone put on international roaming. I knew the costs, I'd looked em up, and was prepared to pay them when needed.

When I got ere, I couldn't get a carrier. Anywhere. Not in Hong Kong, not in Phuket.

When got home, I went back into the same office, because I was heading out again shortly to the USA. Seems the first time I'd been put on the 'wrong plan' and I was promised it was now fixed.

In the USA I managed to get a carrier, occasionally, just, but ended up buying a local prepaid, it was easier, clearer, cheaper.

Never again.

For nearly five months last year, my local area (The Basin, Vic) went from having four bars of reception to rarely having one and mostly having none. I put it down initially to maybe a car taking out a transmition tower, but then it just became annoying. According to them, nothing was wrong, nothing had changed.

In Truganina Melbourne near Hoppers Crossing where I live, and campbellfield where I work, the reception is almost non existent. There are some good days, but most of the time I have 1, maybe 2 bars and internet reception is non existent.
My friends and work colleges who are with different carriers have no issues in the same areas. I am bitterly disappointed with vodafone. For such a world class company I cant believe they continue to sell phones knowing they have a vastly inferior network.

Pearcedale has absoultely no reception at all!!!!! One of our plans is supposed to be unlimited texting yet we still get charged and never are we contacted about any of our bills if their is a fault on their behalf! When we do send texts people dont get them until he next day. Weve had bills for thousands of dollars that we knew nothing about but they take ages to reconnect your service with no apology! Am seriously considering opting out of our plans but what otion is there, there all as bad as each other!
26 Apr 2011 07:25:20 PM: That area is covered by 3g on their 'coverage map' however you're right, the reception is virtually non existent! Vodafail should be charged with misrepresentation.

Most times when people try to call me, it goes straight to voicemail. Luckily I don't pay for this 'service' as it's a corporate plan provided by my employer. 17101 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Massively so at 25 Apr 2011 01:40:48 PM
It would take hours to write the story, these are just the highlights:
1) Started in July 2010 - ordered a Nexus One on a plan via the Vodafone web-site - numerous delays in delivery - it was next week for six weeks, but no notifications or updated order status, just hours on the phone listening to Lara telling me how important my call is...
2) after 6 weeks I was told it wasn't available despite still being advertised online
3) Changed to Samsung Galaxy S - more delays
4) Finally had to go to a store to get it sorted (thanks to the girls at Vodafone Camberwell)
5) Reveive phone 3 montsh after ordering
6) The otherwise very helpful girls put me on a different plan than what I had originally signed up for - no IDD calls included in cap, which was one of the reasons I was switching in the first place
7) More listening to Lara, she really needs to go and get an upgrade, finally told that the plan I had originally signed up for was no longer avaialble
8) Truth be told, I was so over it I did nothing for a couple of months until the first bill shock
9) This time went to the Vodafone store at Southland, great service despite their obvious battle with inadequate and unbelievably slow data systems, finally got on a plan that suited my usage and got a substantial credit
10) Credit not processed, my service was vut off even though technically speaking Vodafone "owed" me money at the time
11) Unable to log in to my MyVodafone (because my phone had been cut off, I presume)
12) More time with Lara (I really don't like her any more) got back on
13) Unfortunately still have 18 months left on my contract, will never, ever come back after that, can only hope I won't have to talk to Lara or anyone else at Vodafone again!

Oh, i forgot, tried to log in to myVodafone to find last months bill, system was down and redirected me to the WebSpehere login screen instead - really classy.

But the real issue is what must be a complete lack of Corporate Governance at Vodafone, how on earth can the CEO and other senior managers still be in charge after what history will no doubt show up as one of the worst managed company mergers in Australian corporate history?

I'm using a Blackberry and in the store they said I get the first year for free (for the Blackberry pack @ $10 a month). I can not get reception in the middle of shopping centers, in my house which is 50m from a Vodafone tower. This was confirmed from Vodafone them selves. I can't get reception at work (MELB Airport). Even when i have full bars i get call failed. Limited 3G coverage. Cant browse internet. Can't use facebook.

Vodafone have wavered 3 months of bills and if im not happy by then im to ring them back.

I was told that Melb Airport was to have an upgrade by the 1st April... i still can not get reception there....

The Calder Hwy from Bendigo has NO coverage... a national Hwy has none. I can't get coverage in Bendigo its self... even standing next to the Vodafone store in the main shopping center.

The first time i contacted them they threw it back on my phone settings... after over 24 hrs of phone calls and the 'new' settings has changed nothing.

Im over them...
25 Apr 2011 12:48:00 PM: A couple of points for you..

1. 50m from a tower probably isnt the best place to try get reception. The optimum range would be far further than 50m. Cell towers can transmit up to 10km.
2. Vodafone works fine in both 2G and 3G at Melbourne airport. What type of handset to you use?
3. Vodafone stores dont have cell transmitters in them, you funny fucker! Why would standing outside one help!!

You sound like you need to be on Telstra :)

17057 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extremely bad at 24 Apr 2011 09:47:59 PM
After recent issues with vodafone involving billing, coverage and service complaints I recently was persuaded to stay with vodafone due to a new contract and handset mistakenly I accepted. Since then I have spoken to vodafone on eight days out of the last thirteen from 1 hr 40 min a day to 4hrs 56 min trying to resolve billing issues. During this time I have been told that I owe various amounts of money have been severely charged for services that I have not used and been denied the ability to check my current usage. As I write this I have been on hold for 1 hr 31 mins.

Got away from vodafone 6 months ago and have never looked back. Now the problem is uninformed friends and relatives who think call dropouts and crappy coverage are "normal" for a mobile, and it's so frustrating being on the other end of the call.. knowing that there is far better out there for similar or even less money.

There is no excuse anymore. Vodafone should just take the massive share price hit and shut up shop in Australia. It is simply astounding that they haven't been forced to do so already.

Seriously Vodafone sux!!! We cant send messages, cant make calls due to call drop outs every ten seconds. How does Vodafone seriously think that they are a reputable company. It seems to be that as soon as they decided to merge with theree they have caused nothing but pain for all of its customers. Its a wonder how they are actaully still standing, and how they make sales. I feel sorry for their employees who have to try sell a shit product. Why not go back to Vodafone and 3 as two seperate companies, you will get happeier staff. Right now i cant utilise my phone, why should i even pay for service when i dont get the service i am paying for. To all Vodafone people who need to read this - VODAFONE SUCKS, YOU DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS, YOU TREAT US ALL LIKE SHIT!! If you cared you would do something about the situation! Fix the issue or i am out just like the rest of the nation. Vodafone is going down...

16959 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is vodafone is total fail. complete fail. the end. at 24 Apr 2011 05:30:51 PM
Sunday 24th april 2011, in melbourne, i among other vodafone users i have called have not ebeen able to send or receive texts for at least the last hours, their website is calling it an 'unplanned service interruption', they should just call it 'our network'.
Have been experienceing problems with vodafail for almost the last 12 months, went thru hours of the rigmarole with clueless customer service, eventually lost it and told the guy to stop talking s**t and just recognise that i, like 15000 other people were effected by this rubbish network. after a slight pause he amazingly said, 'yes, thats the problem, would you like to cancel your contract?'. He organised for contract cancellation people to call me the following week, after 6 weeks i received no calls, called back only to be informed that they wouldn't cancel my contract, despite me being able to provide the name and reference number of the previous customer service worker. beyond angry now i argued for the best part of half an hour, the final resolution being stupider than anything vodafone had come up with so far - they would not cancel my contract, but rather would credit me the remaining 8 months of the contract at $115 a month. So despite the fact that i would no only cost them money, they still wouldnt cancel the contract, amazing.

while i'm ranting a quick note, on a week in tasmania recently, i had service for 1 day out of the 7 i was there, sure i can understand them not having complete coverage, thats fine, but was astounded as i walked through launceston, with no service, and saw a vodafone shop. I went in and asked the guy what are you doing here selling phones when you have no service, his reply was brutally honest: 'you tell me'. he said it was an absolute joke that they even had a store, and that all he and the other staff did was to advise people like me on holiday that there was no service.

'you asked, we ignored you'
25 Apr 2011 12:00:47 AM: Had exactly the same experience in Tasmania. Broke my arm in a remote location and my phone was 100% useless! No reception until I got to Hobart. I saw that same shop in Launceston and had a laugh.

16899 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is PATHETIC at 22 Apr 2011 11:02:40 AM
I have been dramtically overcharged on my bill (overcharged in excess of $100 in all cases), 3 times over a 7 month period. Every time the bill arrives I have to review it, and then spend at least an hour trying to get through to customer service (while continually hearing some cheery recorded voice tell me they will be with me really soon!) and convince someone in India that there actually is an issue with my bill. Three times Vodafone have been unable to explain the billing issue, and after many hours of my time spent to convince them, credits have been applied each time. The most recent time this occured, it has taken me 2 weeks to get Vodafone to understand the issue and admit the bill is not correct. I have now received my latest bill, and discovered they are charging me a $10 charge for late payment on my last bill, all which was due to me trying to chase them and get someone to understand and then correct their issue in the first place.
Vodafone's service is an absolute disgrace. You have to ask what the management team is actually doing in the organisation to allow it to get this bad! The incompetence is staggering!
I've wasted enough of my time dealing with this incompetence, and now moving my mobile and my wife's mobile over to Optus! Well done Vodafone - another good customer you have thrown away!
25 Apr 2011 09:30:23 PM: Hate to tell you,but optus has just as bad shit reception, they have heaps of issues lately, i know heaps of people wanting out of optus, for bit extra $$$ go with telstra......
25 Apr 2011 09:37:03 PM: It would have been an automated charge, so it's not really anybodies fault and they could credit it straight away. But I agree with the above poster. Optus have massive issues with both service and support. Telstra is expensive but the way to go.
30 Apr 2011 10:12:11 PM: If you went in to a store and had them walk you through your bill then they would most likely be able to explain why you were being overcharged, or rather, why you were being correctly charged. If it was incorrect, they would be able to call and have it correct. If you didn't pay your bill on time they have every right to charge you a late payment and, as the above user stated, any incorrect charges can simply be credited back to you.
2 May 2011 01:53:46 PM: Your joking right. Another Vodafail person trying to make things sound all nice and rosey. You are a tool. Have you ever tried walking into a Vodafone store? If your not there to get a new contract or to purchase an accessory, then they dont want to know and tell you to call 1555 to get it sort.
30 Aug 2011 06:24:57 AM: That is absolutely correct. The stores will not assist you unless you're getting a new phone & new contract or purchasing accessories. They tell you to call 1555 to get it sorted. Absoluletly pathethic.

However I am constantly disconnected from their and the Roaming charges are ALWAYS READY TO PUNCE ON ALL OF US UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMERS. I started work with Vodafone sometime ago and this month my work hours as a casual have been cut into less than half earning $250 a fortnight, this was without any information or heads up, when talked with Store incharge he responds I can't do anything as Vodafone has told us to reduce work hours. I feel I am better off with Centrelink (which I totally despise for making people bludgers). shift hours keep on changing week to week. When I went for interview we were told we shall be getting a minimum of 20hrs/week, once the shitstorm from the customers has calmed down the stormtroopers have been sent into oblivion. So its not just the customers, its screw anyone and everyone after we have made use of them, this amounts to Good Ol Capitalism which as we can see has brought upon us the doom of mankind. This coming from an employee for over 6 years and in that whole time defended the brand...Since the merger of 3 and Vodafone the care and respect for its own employees has become no existant. This has reduced the level of help that staff are wanting to give as they get zero support from the company as a whole. VHA is stuck in its own little world....i am starting to see long serving and extremely experienced staff look for outs as its nothing but hell to work in a store anymore. Everyday without fail we get abused, sworn at, even in some cases physically threatened....all for what....a mobile phone!!....We at the stores are just people like everyone else on this webpage that are just trying to make ends meet.... I have loved working for vodafone unfortunately this job has become a nightmare
21 Apr 2011 09:51:30 AM: I'm sorry to hear that you are copping a lot of abuse from disgruntled customers. Most of them are understandably at their wits end with the service they are receiving and have no where to go but the stores. It's really up to Vodafone themselves to provide the support and service staff need to do their job effectively. I hope vodafone improves their service and that your job gets a bit easier.

22 Apr 2011 12:16:03 PM: The best place to go when you have problems with your supplier is the Telephone Industry Ombudsman (TIO) in your state (look them up in the phone book)...

There you can lodge a complaint and they will give you a complaint reference number and a phone number to a dedicated customer service center for your provided (no, not in India).

Lodging a complaint leads to two outcomes:
1. your provided is charged a TIO fee for each complaint
2. you problem is much more likely to be resolved quickly..

In my case, 1 & 1/2 hours at the store where helpful staff and myself battled the issue with customer service, compared to 10 minutes outlining my problem to TIO and a further 10 minutes with the TIO supplied dedicated number to get a final resolution to my problem...

Thanks to the staff at the local store tried all they could to assist and finally gave me the number to the TIO.. I was not so self involved to be unable to feel the staffs frustration at head office...

promising they'll fix it with next bill every time I called. All this with their poor network coverage and never working internet and 3rd grade handsets. After paying them 4 months on their false commitments, I have decided not to pay anymore...
18 Apr 2011 04:18:13 PM: So you don't get in trouble for not paying, file a complaint with the TIO. In the complaint you can put in the amount you are disputing in your bill and you won't have to pay until it is properly investigated. Check out of the how to complain page for more information on that.

I just recently finished a 24 month contract with 3 mobile migrated my service to Vodafone, under another 24 month contact with HTC desire HD. Around my house with 3 mobile reception was more than acceptable, very rarely had dropouts and coverage levels fine throughout the house.
I was a bit concerned about vodaphones reception issues, but the sales rep performed a "coverage check" for me and ensured me that I would actually get better coverage with vodaphone.
I get no reception at all anywhere in the house using my htc desire hd, I can't even send or receive text messages. I have to drive about 1km to get even 1-2 bars of reception using my desire HD. Using my old nokia E71 I can get usually get enough reception out the front of my house to send/receive a text, but calls would drop out.

16809 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Staff at 15 Apr 2011 09:57:47 PM
I am a long time Vodafone staff member working on the front line in one of the busiest stores in Australia. I do my job very very well and any customer who is lucky enough to see me always has their problems resolved. However being such a busy store it usually takes 20 minutes to get to me and we always have massive lines. I found out yesterday that Vodafone has decided in all its wisdom to cut our labour budget from 4500 hours to 1800 hour per month meaning that we will be running on a skeleton staff and the majority of our casual employees will not have a job. They are doing this to cut costs and screw their customers, and it disgusts me more than anyone because it is a company I have defended vigorously in the past. This is the biggest of Vodafails, blatant stupidity!!!
21 Apr 2011 12:29:39 PM: I started work with Vodafone sometime ago and this month my work hours as a casual have been cut into less than half earning $250 a fortnight, this was without any information or heads up, when talked with Store incharge he responds I can't do anything as Vodafone has told us to reduce work hours. Centrelink here i come :(

16806 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Severely at 15 Apr 2011 08:33:07 PM
I have been on prepay for 7 years without much difficulty.
I changed to postpay because I thought I would get better value for data with my own (paid outright) iphone.

I went to North America for two weeks, barely used my phone (I am aware of avoiding data roaming charges etc), and instead used my hotel wifi and skype to make calls. I have previously traveled with prepay at very little cost.

On return I was informed I had a charge of close to $300.
I spent over an hour on hold to find out how these charges added up. I was told that they could not help me as the invoice had not been generated yet. I stated I wanted to go back to prepay as these charges were obscene.
They told me that if I stayed with postpay they would reduce the charges by half, and advised me to call back on a certain date once the invoice was generated to discuss the charges.

I am a doctor, and one day while on call, my phone just stopped working.
They had put a bar on it, and had not forewarned me or sent me any kind of text/correspondance that they would do this.
I had to leave my work on a very busy day to go to the vodophone shop across the street to get my phone unbarred. Again, being on hold for a very long time.
While I was on hold, I changed over to Virgin.

As a doctor on call, I needed my phone and was horrified that Vodophone had done this to my phone without warning.

Changing to post pay, this incident and moving to another carrier occured within only four weeks.
They have not provided any rational explanation for their actions, or apologised. And have just invoiced me for $290. I have never had to pay such a large cost for my mobile phone in all my years of usage.

15 Apr 2011 09:29:16 PM: Lodge a complaint here (takes 5 minutes)and you should be able to speak to someone in English and get (hopefully) all of the $290 back.
