Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

13573 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Lousy at 21 Jan 2011 09:08:20 AM
Towards the end of each month I regularly try to check my usage via the Vodafone website to see where I stand with included calls to avoid incurring extra charges. On more than half the times I try to check, the website says it cannot retrieve details, please try again later. It's extremely frustrating. I can understand it happening occasionally but not more than 50% of the time! Fortunately my 24 month plan is up next month, so I can find a better provider.

I'm not in a mess anymore as i finally switched carriers.
I lived in St Kilda East at the time and could never get reception!!! it was so frustrating, the only place i could get coverage in my appartment was in one corner of the balcony (not fun in on winter nights). Whenever i complained to them they simply stated that 'that you are covered on the map so you DO have coverage' .... NO vodafone ... there was no coverage. And no it wasn't my hand set, i swapped it three times and friends with vodafone also had the same problems. Also because there was no coverage my messages weren't getting through till days later.
I learnt quickly why they have amazing deals. I'm now with another carrier, there customer service is annoying but unlike vodafones i hardly have to use it as i have perfect coverage!!

13565 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Useless Reception at 21 Jan 2011 09:05:54 AM
I can not understand how you can live within 6km of the centre of the second largest city in this country and have such poor reception that half your calls go straight to voicemail and you have to stand outside in the rain to get good enough reception to make calls. If you offer a service you need to deliver it and if you have a certain number of users in an area you need to update your network so that it can support the users. Vodafone is globalisation at it's cheapest.

I work and travel around the country a great deal, and in the main, the only coverage I get using vodafone is in the capital cities. Outside of these, it's useless.

13561 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is No internet at 21 Jan 2011 09:04:43 AM
I've been in Melbourne this week (17 -21 January 2011) and despite having full signal and 3G I cannot access the internet between 7am and midnight. Obvioulsy the service is congested. It's a good job I didn't bring my laptop with which I was going to tether to my iPhone. It would have been a waste of time.

13557 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very Disappointing at 21 Jan 2011 09:03:37 AM
I am trying to get my Vodafone user name and password re-issued. For no apparent reason the system did not accept my user name and password. I want to be able to check my phone call details on line. I sent in an email on 5 January requesting the details, the response was I could expect a 5 days wait. It is now 21 January!!!!

When accessing Vodafone Live I get the message, that I am currently overseas! Which is not the case when I showed the Customer Service Rep in the Bourke Street store. No explanation could be given.

13555 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Moderate at 21 Jan 2011 09:03:17 AM
My reception in my apartment literally went to nothing for approx. 4 days in December. I'm assuming because they were doing their rolling repairs. I switch to 2G and it worked. But I pay for 3G not 2G.

My real anger comes from all the stories of people ringing up and getting bills credited after argueing with them for a long time. I'm not a confrontational person, I don't want to ring up and abuse staff and ask to speak to managers just to get a credit on my bill. They should just give everyone a credit on their bills until the problem is fixed.

13550 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Epic Fail on all fronts at 21 Jan 2011 09:00:25 AM
I have been trying to upgrade my plan for over 2 months! I don't understand how such a simple process can be so flawed.

Firstly, I went to the 3 store times, only to be told different things by each representative. 1) We can't process upgrades here in the store and I got told to call the direct line 2) You need to go online. (But online tells you to call???) 3) yes we can do this in store but we don't know when we're getting iphone4's in.

So which one is it?? How are these staff getting trained if all can't provide a consistent answer? By the way, this was from 1 store (corner Bourke Street & Swanston Street Melbourne CBD)

Secondly, it took 7 business days to process a bpay payment and when I tried to upgrade over the phone they advised they couldn't process as I was in arrears. The first time I called, the operator said he'll take down notes about my issue and for me to call in 48 hours. Fine. Before I called the second time, i made sure i checked online to make sure the payment had cleared. It told me I was in arrears for 0.32 cents when the day before it said $68 (i paid that $68 a week ago) where did the 32 cents come from? Another system stuff up from vodafone i'm sure Second time I called, they said I had to wait 4 days!!
And the worst part, they could see no notes from the previous operator!!

Third time, i finally got through to the upgrade team, they could not put my address in "the system" because South Melbourne was coming up with a different postcode?? Does outsourcing call centre teams mean that all integrity and service is completely lost? Obviously vodafone doesn't know what customer service means and are happy to give these people in Bangalore or where ever, poor systems, poor training, poor everything! I then got put on hold and got hung up on.

I have called again for the 4th time only to get told that they can't put my exact address because they use a system that reads off google maps? What on earth do they do with new estates which aren't on google maps yet?

Surely I have gone above and beyond what a customer is expected to go through before I start complaining right?

13547 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Bad at 21 Jan 2011 08:59:30 AM
My office in is in the Melbourne CBD and getting a signal is almost impossible. When I do I get EDGE rather than 3G.

In November last year I had to take my daughter to the Monash Medical Centre in Clayton for urgent treatment but could not get a signal to call the rest of the family to let them know what was happening.

At Xmas time I was staying at my sisters house in Belair in Adelaide and could not get a signal. On the way over we stayed at a hotel in the main street of Horsham and could not get a signal. Forget about trying to get a signal on the Western Highway. And NO, it is not my iPhone's fault!

My contract ends in June. I will be finding another carrier.

13540 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is its not my phone at 21 Jan 2011 08:55:55 AM
it all started a few months ago when i couldnt connect to a call. i would need to attempt my call at least 10 times to get through. and the i would be happy chatting away and then bam call disconnects about 5 mins into the call with the message connection error. i rang customer service i was told the wait was over an hour so i chose the call back option. i did not receive a call back until 4 hours later and guy was not helpful. he kept telling me vodafone has no faults and that it was my phone. i kept informing him that i have tried several phones and i got the same error. he was insistent that i restore my factory settings so i did and it made no difference. in the past few weeks the service has gotten better but i would still like to see vodafone admit they were in fault and credit my bill for the inconvenience.

Hi, just venting my anger here. Late last year, December... my vodafone coverage completely dropped out for approx 1 week. I could not receive or make calls. Naturally I contacted vodafone customer service, and was instructed to restart my phone, reset network settings and change the sim. After doing all that was advised, my calls are still dropping out to this day, I have no service 90% of the time, even when im in CBD area... and my 3G is extremely slow. I've completely had it Vodafone...

3G data constantly not working. I wouldnt have bought an Iphone if i didnt want to use 3G data! can never get through to customer service and when i do, like to open a fault ticket, they never respond with an answer to the fault. Or, they will put you through to another department, which is usually closed- so spending 45 mins on the phone to get through to them, is a complete waste of my time:(

The response was everything was ok and the technicians were doing everything possible. I had to make 5 phone calls to 2 people as the phone dropped out didn't go through - honestly who knows! I rang to cancel the service got a customer service officer, they put me through to another area network connections and they take my mobile number and that was it dead silence on the other end of the phone. They didn't even ring back. I rang 155 again and the phone rang (yes rang) for 20 mins and no one answered it. I've had ENOUGH!!!!

After spending 3 hours on hold to transfer to customer service, I was advised that the csr was going to transfer me to a department that could assist me. She transferred me to a call q that was closed. I was alos told that move form post pay to pre pay that I would need a new sim card which I bought and it was all a load of rubbish, didn't need to spend $30 at all. Dropped calls alot in 3070 and overall crap service.

My parents live about 30 mins out of Melbourne in a quite well known town. Since joining Vodafone I have been unable to use my mobile at all when out that way to visit them, there is absolutely no reception. This coupled with the delayed voice mail, SMS and MMS messages can become incredibly. Never had this issue with my other provider.

13512 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extremely at 21 Jan 2011 08:45:03 AM
I was trying to do a 'Change of Title' on my phone. So I called Vodafone, took the 'callback' option, where their 'in 15 mins' became 2 hours.
So, I explained what I wanted to do (change title on the phone).
The call centre told me that the ONLY way to change title was for me and the other person to go into a Vodafone store together.
So, two days later, we lined up our schedules, and went into a Vodafone store.
In store, they dismissed us, and told us that the only way we could do this was, in fact, over the phone.
So, I called them again, usual hour long wait, and they told me that the only way we could do this was in store. I told them the store had sent us back to the phone. They said it couldn't be done, because in store they have to do a credit check. I asked if we could do it on the phone, they said there was no way.
So, I went back to the store. The store told me they couldn't do a credit check. I asked to speak to the manager. The person I spoke to said they WERE the manager. So, I wandered to another Vodafone store nearby, and they told me they could, in fact do the credit check, but it really should've been done on the phone.
I did the credit check.
Called Vodafone back, with my credit check receipt/statement details that they can use. They said they'd be happy to do this, I gave them my details from the credit check, gave the phone to the other person involved in the Change of Title, and the person from Vodafone then said that they couldn't do the change because of the credit check. The person I was with told them we had done the credit check, but the Vodafone said no, and hung up on them, and told us to go back to a Vodafone store.
So - I called Vodafone, lodged a formal complaint over the phone, then managed to proceed with the Change of Title, finally, after two weeks of fiddling around like this.
I called again for another reason a week later, and decided to check if my formal complaint had actually been lodged.
It had not.

There's a rumour that the call drop outs is a tactic that Vodafone is using to charge flagfall and make extra cash.

The picture... more than 3 million customers, each make at least 1 call per day that drops out and they have to redial to finish the conversation. Vodafone has 6 million customers... 3 million calls is a conservative estimate.

Flagfall of 25c x 3,000,000 x 365 = 273,750,000. Even if only one out of 100 is outside cap, not to another vodafone, it's still easy money.

13486 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is OMG at 21 Jan 2011 08:36:13 AM
A few things:
a) I am using mobile phone for my business a lot. A few months back I was at Melbourne airport trying to talk to my boss about an important customer situation in our business. Call dropped, no coverage. A few seconeds later I had full coverage, and I had not moved. Got in contact again, spoke for 2 minutes of so, call dropped, no coverage. I had not moved an inch. Few seconds later I had full coverage and opened a call again. Dropped after a minute and could not connect any more, had to board the plane. Our conversation got delayed by 1 1/2 hours and had impact. Grrrrrr.
b) I have been Vodafone customer since 2002. I have been driving along beach road (I know it's not Beach Road all the way but anyway) for all these years and very typical it is that I am using my hands free, while driving around 5-6 pm. In the past I could fingerpoint 2 sports along the way where I knew there was no reception and my call would drop. Today I can fingerpoint 5 spots. This tells you how Vodafone is improving it's service.

I have decided to move to Telstra, once my contract is over. Happy to pay more as long as by business is not impacted.

Having to reboot my iPhone every night if I want data to work. Having to refresh apps multiple times before they load, even with supposed full 3G reception.

There's too many call drop outs and message issues to list but there hasn't been a single day in the last month that I have had perfect 3G reception. Each day there is a problem.

Rang up to complain about reception issues. After 2 hours of being on hold and told to hang in there, she said she needed to transfer me. While transfering me they must of been new because they hung up on me(or it cut out after 2 hours on hold who knows.)
Ringing back again the next day i decided to choose cancellations. Thinking they may pick up a cancellation quicker as the person at this stage might be pissed, I again had to wait 2 hours to be told to be transfered again.
After successfully being transfered and another 2 hour wait they said they would "look into it".
Are you serious? 6 hours of waiting to be told they are looking into it. 3 days later they rang me back saying they had fixed the problem. After telling him they have not done shit and I still need to stand on my bed to make a call and get the 1 bar or so needed, they claimed they are always making improvements to their network and to just hang in there.
I think the ombudsman can sort this out for me now.

We are based in Melbourne and have a sister office in Sydney. On average it takes four attempts to make a connection with any of our staff up there. I can't log into my online Vodafone account because it is locked so I called customer service to fix the problem. I chose the call back option and was told I would be called back in 5-10 minutes. After 4 hours I finally get the call back, answer the phone and the call drops out due to Vodafone's terrible coverage.

I think I might just leave my account locked forever.

I was in hospital the whole day yesterday and had no signal in the waiting room. We were at the hospital since 7am and because my phone had no reception my family was all worried about me when I couldn't get a call out or they couldn't contact me. In the end my whole family all left work early after noon to rush down to the hospital to see if I was ok. In the waiting room I noticed everyone else was making and receiving calls fine, I asked them and they were either on Telstra or Optus network, I was the only one on Vodafone and had no services. 13441 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is im pretty cross at 21 Jan 2011 08:19:13 AM
I have my own home-based business. I do not use a home phone because I took out the $99 unlimited plan for my mobile instead as I am on the phone a lot especially for work. I also don't like to advertise my home number for business, I feel it looks unprofessional. I bought a sim card first to try with my phone to make sure that the coverage was good. It was better coverage than Optus but I still have drop out regularly but I had previously had an optus plan and the reception in my home was appalling!(this is why I double checked with the sim before signing up!)
My complaint is with voicemail and text messages. I have NEVER had delays such as with this company. It can be up to 4 days before I receive a message which often means that I miss out on a job if I can't get to my phone on time or if it's a blocked call. (which is often the case as I deal with large companys regularly who sometimes have private numbers.)
I am so frustrated as the phone is 1 of the main tools I use in my business,
and it would be a great load off my mind and possibly into my purse if I could use my phone properly! if something can be done about this it would make running my business so much easier and my life a lot less stressful!

13393 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Never a signal available!! at 21 Jan 2011 08:01:23 AM
Been with Vodafone for 7+ years, Live in the North West of Melbourne, Was an Optus customer due to poor reception i moved to Vodafone, at one stage Vodafones services were great. Last 6-12 months i have had nothing but constant reception issues. 3G hardly works at all, and most often then not signal reverts to the standard NON 3G signal. Travel anywhere west of Melbourne and your phone basically drops out every 5 minutes as you move from Footscray through to Sunbury. At best i get 2-3 bars signal. AND NO VODA IT IS NOT MY PHONE OR MY SIM OR PHONE SOFTWARE!!!

As if this was not bad enough, recently every bill i have received via SMS has been incorrect and does not at all display the detail on the Vodafone website once logged in. Their systems seem to be all screwed up and i always have to call customer care just to try to resolve my bill queries.

Don't even get me started on the customer care line. 1hr wait is standard. Most times i have to wait an hr, then get transferred, then disconnected, have to call again, wait another hour. This is simply ridiculous and cannot continue. I am contracted till June, but i am extremely close to canceling my contract and moving to another provider. VODAFAIL - FOR SURE!

13387 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Want to cancel contract but told it will cost $300 to do so at 21 Jan 2011 08:00:06 AM
21 Jan 2011 08:36:14 AM: The fact that other people use phones with other providers in the same area would suggest that it is a coverage problem. However, if it is a handset issue then the telco isn't responsible for it's manufacture and therefore it's the manufacturers problem (E.g a certain popular smartphone has reception issues). The contract is largely based on paying for the handset and after 6 months of usage, it's your handset and therefore you should pay for it. You could also pay for the phone and exit to another service provider. To claim your money back is the equivalent of buying a car, driving it around for 6 months and then expecting your money back because the road you're driving on is potholed. The service you mention is the Voda network and reception and suggest your focus on that with your complaints.

I have only this week moved to Telstra after over 5 years with Vodafone....I have had a litany of problems over that time (reception, disconnection for no reason, a $23,000 phone bill by accident , the list goes on) ...late last year I rang (after many attempts to get through) and told them I wanted to cancel my account immediately...someone from their retention team called me back a few days later and offered me the world to stay...a new iphone 4 a $1000 credit on the data charges I incurred whilst OS on my honeymoon...I received the new handset but the $1000 credit never appeared on my account...so off I go again on the roller coaster that is trying to actually speak to someone at Vodafone....it took me about 10 calls and a lot of angst before I finally found someone who would actually deal with my issue...I finally received the credit 5 months later...I then spent the entire summer break with no reception due to bad coverage and I can no longer tolerate them...

I simply cannot believe how I have been treated by Vodafone. I only stayed with Vodafone for so long as I believed the alternatives were just as bad...I no longer think this is the case. I am sending my handset back to the CEO...the end.

I joined up to a plan in Perth around 6 months ago and have become increasingly frustrated at the slow data load for internet, I mean really 5 minutes to post a comment on facebook. I remember that dial up 128k modems were faster. Vodafail has them all call drop outs, voicemail. I got a picture test through at 5am in the morning more than 10 ours late.

I promise I will never join up with Vodaphone again and urge anyone of my friends who listen to do the same.

13351 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Dropped calls, poor coverage at 21 Jan 2011 07:46:59 AM
I have a 12 months contract with Vodafone and I have a pre-paid too. I can seriously tell I am experiencing the worse coverage I have ever seen.
Inside my house I only have coverage in one room, and even in there calls are dropped making a phone conversation a hassle.
When I was in the hospital last year, I did not have coverage at all, having to walk outside and search for spots where I could get at least as much signal so I could send/receive text messages.
Not to mention the customer service which is really bad, I feel like an idiot when I have to talk to Lara!
Just my 2 cents ....

13332 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is No reception ib CBD at 21 Jan 2011 07:39:45 AM
My husband and I are both on Vodafone ....We live within 5km of Melbourne CBD and the reception bar is always on "No Service"
I rang vodafone and told me that it is our iPhone3Gs handsets that is the problem and that we need to update our software. We upgraded and still no reception. Problem not solved.
So when we are at home, we cannot receive calls or text or go on the internet (unless using our own wifi network at home).
Everytime I try to call Vodafone helpline I am on hold for no less than 15 minutes and to make matters worst I have to make this call outside the house because once we cannot get reception in our apartment!
I have friends who have come over and are on other network (Optus, Telstra) and their reception in our apartment is fine.
The other who are on 3(now part of Vodafone) also has the same problem.
21 Jan 2011 08:39:16 AM: Iphones have always had pretty poor reception even on the best networks.

13331 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is The highest fail you can get! at 21 Jan 2011 07:39:21 AM
I ALWAYS have poor reception and the the internet speeds are a joke. As a customer i did not sign up for such a poor service and get quite frustrated when i am on hold for so long i almost forget why i am calling them. I dont have a problem with the call centre being over seas but do sometimes find it hard to understand some reps. Nothing racist - its just the language barrier and i understand that. Whenever i leave my house to travel to my family/friends places etc i have no reception for the drive and no reception at their residence. I just think that it is greatly unfair that we are paying for a service and getting NOTHING. Its Disgusting how they are able to take our money without providing a decent service. I moved from Telstra to vodafone as i was sick of the hassles Telstra were giving me - BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. When my contract is up in August i will be moving back to Telstra (i thought i hated telstra more than any other provider, boy was i wrong!)

13321 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Overcharging at 21 Jan 2011 07:36:18 AM
I have been overcharged $20 per month for two years! Minimum phone charge I was told by staff would be $20 per month on my phone so I thought I would keep it as backup when I was away from the farm (no vode coverage outside of Bendigo)but I kept getting charged $40 and they would not budge. I chopped it off end Nov 2010 and today had to pay $6.67 in admin fees for the last billing period even though I paid the account in full when I disconnected!

I joined vodafone simply because they were the only company who could tell me when they were getting IPhone 4 in stock I joined in November. Since then I have had numerous problems with calls dropping out, not being able to receive emails, not being able to connect to the web. I initially had problems porting my number which took 2 weeks to sort out. I have had my sim card changed about 4 times. Last week i visited a store to complain about the fact i can't receive emails and was told to contact my carrier - which i did and was told it was a vodafone issue as i could receive them at times and not others. So back to vodafone who told me they were having issues with email and advised me to set up a gmail account and set it to receive emails from my existing address. I have done this but still don't get emails. SOOOO frustrated as i am on a 24 month contract!

13313 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is poor reception at 21 Jan 2011 07:34:21 AM
Vodafone has terrible reception. Unacceptable. I am a prepaid customer, but still think I deserve some respect from the company. I cannot get any reception in Healseville, for example. Healesville is a town of about 6000 people in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. My reception drops out soon after leaving Melbourne. I can only imagine what it must be like for the residents of that town.

I think the Minister for Communications should threaten to remove vodafone's license to practise as a telescommunications company in Australia.
21 Jan 2011 08:30:13 AM: I live in Healesville, and the reception is poor. I am with Crazy Johns (Vodafone network) and I'm sick of having no reception or very poor reception. Even in the main street I get zero reception sometimes, and the coverage here is supposed to be "excellent".

13273 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Fail = very rarely have coverage at 21 Jan 2011 07:24:30 AM
I brought a new HTC on a 24 month plan in the hope that the issues that I'd previously been experiencing using my older prepaid Nokia would discontinue - I thought the issue was with having an older model phone and not the network. I also suspected if it was not the actual phone that it was my SIM so was happy at the time to replace it with a new one when I switched to the plan option.

Unfortunately it appears I was wrong. In fact it is actually safe to say that the issue is the same on a good day and worse in general. From what I gather my entire house is a blackspot of some variety (Moonee Ponds - which is hardly far from civilisation) as is my place of work (in the city centre). It can take four or five attempts to send an SMS and I very rarely receive photos that friends send or vice versa because the network drops out so frequently.

The plan I have means I am able to make up $400 worth of calls for the flat rate but it's almost completely useless given the network drops out more than reqularly while I'm on a call. Recently I had to call my bank to cancel a lost card and request a replacement and while on the call the network dropped out three times which meant speaking to three different people in order to get my request completed. Which is alarming given if I was to make a call for an emergency, would I be in danger of experiencing the same problem?

As soon as I leave the city limits I lose all coverage until I'm back within a certain zone. It was only about an hour out from Melbourne central that I lost all reception and was without it for the entire time I was away (three days). Which calls in to question: what is the point of having this phone if I am unable to use it?

It seems unfair that anyone should have to pay for this kind of service, especially when I have 20 months left of a contract to go!

I was moved by the Vodafone/3 consortium to Vodafone's wireless broadband internet services after 3 months I gave up because I was paying for broadband speed but getting around 1 or 2 kilobytes per second sometimes if I was lucky.
It was worse than 3 where I was also paying for broadband speed but getting only dialup speed sometimes. 3 said that their tower in Melbourne was overloaded and could not increase the speed in the forseeable future. Lets face it people, these turkeys who operate communication services in AUstralia but all the support and technical staff are overseas are just ripping us off. We need to support companies who have real people here and have invested in Australia and our future.

Calls drop out all the time, I often have it go straight to voicemail when I could have answered it, and have had many cases of voicemails/texts being delivered hours after they arrived. I have constantly had drop outs, i can be sitting on my couch in the same position and the service works then drops out I live in suburbia with lots of towers around I just don't understand why it happens & only when i've been with Vodafone. When i use phone banking and i type in my card details for some reason the numbers don't work, when i called Vodafone to ask why this happens the answer was " your signal must have changed towers and it's not one of ours so it won't recognise what numbers you are pressing". That for me is the biggest inconveinience as i then can't transfer any money to my account!!! My phone is on a cap contract and i noticed there was data being used at 2am and odd hours typically when i KNOW i was asleep and when i questioned Vodafone about what it was hey said "what does it matter your not going over you cap" I demanded to know what was this data being used and it turned out my phone had been automatically turning on my GPS part and trying to locate where i was. I asked for this automatice function to be turned which took a lot of convincing & they reluctantly did it. My gripe at the moment is they email they sent to all their customers stating no privacy had been breeched but my question is how can we trust them and then why is there a criminal investigation??? I want out of my contract with not having to pay any exit fees!

Have been with 3/Vodafone for years and have continually put up with call drop outs being told that it was the surrounding hills or trees that could not guarantee the service. Some parts of my house show full signal strength where as taking two steps in any direction causes the call to drop out repeatedly. Almost every call my wife makes drops out and requires her to call back - no wonder she runs through her cap so quickly.

Hi i've been with Vodafone since 1999 and i have noticed there service has been getting worse and worse!!! I live in Frankston witch they tell me is in the 3G aera, but i get very little coverage. It has got better for me since i got rid of the phone i got from Vodafone and brought a phone with Telsta running software in it!!!!! I'm with 3 as well with my USB internet and since Vodafone has joined with 3 my internet signal has got worse!!!! I has asked them many many times why is it so bad and they keep telling me there is nothing wrong!!! But i have never seen any Vodafone staff in my aera checking the service, so how would they now if it is good or bad!!!!!!!!!!
21 Jan 2011 08:42:38 AM: It's getting worse due to the explosion in demand for data services (internet, facebook, skype et al) which is consuming network bandwidth. Not defending it but all Telco's are behind the curve on this one and it will take a while for them to catch up.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, I have been through 3 months of hell with vodafone, people telling me they would call me back and didn't, supervisors being rude and sarcastic on the phones.....all the while having a phone that wouldn't work! After being advised by a consultant to buuy a new phone (because of course it was my phone that was the problem) and restarting the phone far too many times to count, waiting on the phone over an hour every single time I called, and I called a lot! ( think of all that time in my life hours and hours and hours wasted...I could have a degree in biochemistry now with all the time i wasted lol), I gave up!!! I rang the telecommunications ombusmen...the best thing I ever did. What vodafone had been saying they couldnt do for months they did in 2 days. I got out of my contract with no fees at all. YOU SHOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR A SERVCE THAT ISNT PROVIDING! when you signed that contract it wasnt just for you but for them also!! you agree to pay them, but they agree to provide you a service. They didnt provide me the service, then I WASN'T PAYING!
21 Jan 2011 05:35:17 AM: Can I add, I know telstra may see more expensive, but my phone has not dropped out since. telstra can be annoying, but if you want a phone that works and you can rely on TELSTRA all the way. Thankyou telstra for making my life better!!
21 Jan 2011 08:44:56 AM: Telstra has maintained network bandwidth to provide a better service by discouraging customers from signing up in the first place (their extortionate pricing). If you can afford Telstra's services then great but not everyone can.

Hi, during the 2009 bushfires here in victoria (I live in affected area) I had to purchase a telstra mobile sim and call all my work and family contacts that I had a new mobile number as vodafone does not have a call forwarding feature (and their towers being shut down for emergancy use only) on their prepaid mobiles. Now this cost me huge $$ as I work in security and do work for a number of security companies, not only that it also cost me work as well as I was not able to be contacted for 3 days,
I constantly loss service whilst travelling up the hume highway and travelling close to melbourne and melbourne airport and I do not have service on a number of job sites within 50-60 klm's from melbourne. Here's food for thought... In this household alone, there are three handsets, each operating on a network run by vodafone... Crazy Johns, 3 and Lebara. We're in direct line of sight with a broadcast tower, yet only one bar, on all three handsets, on all THREE networks? I've contacted 3 about the poor coverage, and all they say is that the issue isn't 'trending' in my area. Me being the only 3 customer in my area. I received the same response when I complained to Voda/Hutch Australia. Crazy Johns run on their network and they get NO reception WHATSOEVER. Lebara are only slightly better.

I dont understand how three networks, running from the same tower can get such crap service.

Vodafone are rubbish.
21 Jan 2011 08:50:11 AM: Line of sight doesn't guarantee reception since it's broadcast at an angle that increases coverage. (think about a spotlight 2 inches from the ground and a spotlight 10 feet from the ground) If it pointed down more, then you'd need 3 times as many towers to achieve the same level of coverage. Pointing up and out more increases the coverage spread.

13035 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Crap at 20 Jan 2011 02:10:50 PM
Today in an hour I have had to reconnect to the Internet 10 times, the shortest drop out 3 minutes. I have seen that my contract finishes in September and Vodafone will never have my business again. I feel absolutely stupid for trusting them in the first place. Goodbye Vodafone.

13030 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is N/A at 20 Jan 2011 12:10:01 PM
Ok, So i have to say this, i myself am a staff member of vodafone, i and the rest of my family and my staff are also on vodafone ( and no as staff we DONT get discounts ) BUT in all honesty to all the people that come into my store every day yelling at my staff, cmon its not our fault, we are facing all this crap as well... So we dont need to keep hearing it from you guys call sales support or somthing, or we are more than happy to TALK to you about it, but coming into the store and yelling and abusing us and calling us names, were trying to help you guys, but we cant do anything about it, Ive had staff wanting to quit coz of it, So next time your in a vodafone store please remember its not our fault we are trying and everything but we will help you if we can.
20 Jan 2011 01:39:26 PM: word!
20 Jan 2011 02:20:48 PM: Thank you, that would mean a lot to Vodafone's customers...but what happens if you go into a Vodafone shop and they tell you they aren't actually employees of Vodafone and they tell you to call Customer Service. You're back to square 1 with no help and depending on "Lara" to try and "help" you...
20 Jan 2011 02:45:20 PM: The staff are representatives and agents for Vodafone. You are happy to sign up new customers and take their money so don't be surprised when customers come back and complain. Customers can't get through the long waits on the call centres so naturally they will come back to the store and complain. Hopefully more customers will do this so that the message gets from the front desk to those higher up and they might actually address the problems rather than just producing a collection of weasel words on their website,
20 Jan 2011 06:29:44 PM: Best to start selling Optus or Telstra and give Voda away.

13027 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 20 Jan 2011 10:26:03 AM
I have noticed in the last 5 months that the internet on my iphone was running slow and taking over 5 mins to load so it times out. I thought it was my phone?? How wrong I was. In the last two months the internet never loads and i have now had SMS and voicemails coming through 2hr and 3 days later. what the?
My internet usage has been wrong for a couple of months on the bill. I haven't been using the internet so my plan never goes over the plan amount, but shouldn't I have the option to use the 1GB I have in my plan? I'm holding up my side of the contact by paying on-time every month, should Vodaphone provide me with the service I pay for? you lock us in for 2 years and I've had bad service for 6 months of the last 18.... My partner is with Teltra (work phone) and he has full coverage all the time. We only live in west Footscray 7k from the city. This is ridiculous

13012 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is very at 19 Jan 2011 08:19:17 PM
Issues withcall drop outs and very slow network coverage on my phone and frequent dropping out of the 3G network. I rang Vodaphone to complain about these issues and was told to switch to 2G! Am paying for 3G not 2G, Vodaphone offered to give me a $10 discount on my bill which I have never seen. Can't wait for my plan to expire.
19 Jan 2011 11:00:40 PM: Don't give up complain to the telephone industry obudsman TIO. When you bomb out there for about $30 you can appeal to vcat and ask then to examine the fairness of Vodaphone contracts like statements about how many days they have to deliver text messages before they can be considered late. Wouldn't be nice if Vcat change the conditions to say 3 hours or be compensated. I note in previous decisions they have said these contracts should be examined for fairness and legality!

13011 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is miserable mornington at 19 Jan 2011 07:10:18 PM
i live 500 mtrs from a tower, can see it from my front door yet i have no service and when the service does kick in with only 1 bar ive missed calls and messages. I pay top dollar for my contract and require it for work but even after this issue going on for more than a year and promises of vodafone switching on new towers and better strength nothing has changed. Very much so will not be renewing my contract period unless something drastically changes.
20 Jan 2011 11:54:17 AM: Have you made sure that it is a vodafone tower?

13010 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is just so incompetant at 19 Jan 2011 07:05:03 PM
Out in the Grampians aware of floods etc tried to report failed network. Here's how inept their system is. WHY should it take 3 hours to report a faulty networks to vodafone. WHY WHY should i be bounced from Phone services to 2nd class prepaid user before I speak to technical services. WHY WHY should I have to pull out my sim card out of my phone just to get to speak to technical services with a 50 minute wait then have to pull out my sim card out of my phone again! WHY 3rd rate system I repeat complaining about system not people with such limited authority. No problem with phone worked fine in horsham. Just network down. Thank god I don't have a contract with the company that tortures these poor regimented employees!

13006 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is fail at 19 Jan 2011 04:57:31 PM
I have an N97, replaced once because of problems relating to the screen and charging issues. I'm now having problems with both of those issue plus my reception drops out, the light sensor refuses to switch the screen back on after calls, the phone freezes almost bi-weekly, and it will switch itself off with full battery and when turned back on has virtually none. I just need out of my contract, I refuse to pay the ridiculous cancellation fees, it's unbelievable how much they're asking for, I've heard stories from people I know finding ways to cancel the contract, what do I do?
19 Jan 2011 05:25:19 PM: Check out the how to complain link at the top of the page. The TIO will be able to assist you out of your contract :)
