26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

I live on the corner of Burke Road and Wattletree Road in Glen Iris, I get fluctuating reception in my apartment and dropped calls. Most times when people try to call me, it goes straight to voicemail. Luckily I don't pay for this 'service' as it's a corporate plan provided by my employer. Vodafone: sell your piece of junk network to someone who can run it properly and get out of the game while you still can.

17172 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Pathetic online store at 26 Apr 2011 06:23:06 PM
*************
Following is the email I sent to customer support regarding their crappy online store that just would not work - I tried 3 different computers and 5 times and a colleague also had no luck:
*************

I have tried a couple of times to sign up for mobile broadband today and have been let down by your online store. I was looking at the $29pm 8gb plan with wifi modem.

I get to the page where you select credit card / bank account. I put my bank details in with the correct information and it repeatedly asks me to put the account number in..which is already in place. The only way to progress is to put in my debit card details.

Fine, so I do that and the next page asks for ID. So I try to change the primary ID to australian driver licence and the drop down box does not respond.

Fine, so I put in my passport details instead. I select that it is a British passport and try to put in the expiry date - August 2018 - but no, the latest date I can put is 2015. British passports have a 10 year validity. So I put in 2015.

Ok, so I want to use a rates notice or utility bill for the next box. So I put the reference number in and click ok. Nothing happens. So I click again. Nothing happens. I tried this for both types. Fine, I'll use Medicare card instead. That goes in. I try to proceed but it says I must use something with an address on it, like a utility bill or a rates notice...

During the process I am also asked twice with radio buttons whether I am permanent or temporary resident and it lets me proceed through but when I get to the end of filling in my life story, there is a 'I am a permanent resident' check box. It forces you to tick this to proceed. If I am not entitled to spend my money in your store as a temporary resident (the contract term was less than my visa duration and my credit rating is platinum) then it should not let me proceed past the very first time it asks me if I am temporary or permanent. To make me go through the whole process and then tell me that I have to be a permanent resident (even a for month to month plan) is just a waste of my time.

To be brutally honest, I never liked Vodafone as a company but I thought that I would give you guys a go to prove my perception wrong. I thought maybe you were better here but with all the hassle I have experienced trying to sign up for your product - to give you my hard-earned money - I don't think I will make that mistake

**********************************
Their response was that they have 'no known faults' and that I should go to a shop - something I cannot do and defeats the whole point of having an online store.

Pathetic.

17171 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Ongoing network issues at 26 Apr 2011 06:09:03 PM
I'm not going to go into too much detail but see the merit in joining the anti-vodafone movement.

I joined the "lack of" Network in november 2010 and have counted over 100+ dropped calls, massive network related dropouts / reception issues. Voice mail not coming through for hours and in some case days at a time.

Usually I'm a patient person who just gets on with things but this network has driven me mad. Considering I reside in the Sydey Metropolitan area & am a very busy business man travelling around this service is unacceptable.

I've lodged 3 formal complaints already but since Vodafone has opted to lock me into a contract I guess we all wait?

On multiple occasions i haven't been able to access voicemail. I am in the real estate game and cannot afford Vodafone to shut down my business! A few months back i had my service turned off for 24 hours due to a "technical glitch" in their billing service. They have been great in terms of making up for their "glitches" however i am fed up with the service. Simply cant afford the mistakes anymore.

17165 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Too rude to say! at 26 Apr 2011 05:09:40 PM
Let me list the things I have experienced:
1. 1 1/2 hours of waiting on the phone for customer service. My phone darn near overheated, being a hot day.
2. Not recieveing bills - in general I have to ring them TWICE before they'll send my bills.
3. I have tried twice to have both my contracts cancelled. Thank god one expires in 3 months time.
4. SMS messages take forever to arrive on the other end.
5. Calls drop out when I have full bars of reception, and i'm calling a landline.
6. It takes 10 minutes to load a small text only email.
7. GSM network is faster than the 3G.
8. And most disgusting of all - I have been informed that the Vodafone towers were deliberately switched off shortly after the flood events of January 2011 in Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley, leaving thousands of customers unable to call for help or find their families. And after that there was noone on the ground to help the people of the Lockey Valley out with new phones after they lost theirs in the flood.

I am with another telco now and very impressed with their service. Yes, it gets slow online during peak periods, but loading those simple emails are instantaneous, and the 3G network actually exists. This telco also had people on the ground helping people out with new prepaid phones, and were on the ground soon after Yasi went through to get the network up and running.

Poor coverage cost me two public holiday shifts at my casual job, has left me basically uncontactable 80% of the time and has left my poor mother worried I've fallen off the face of the planet.
Being a uni student (therefore strapped for cash), I thought Vodafone would be a cost-effective option...instead, it seems to me that it's losing me money more than anything else.
I can't wait to switch to another carrier, Vodafone, YOU SUCK.

17155 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is 6 drop outs in 4 mins at 26 Apr 2011 02:39:24 PM
After using Vodafone for 6 years I have finaly gone over to the dark side... I am with telstra now.

There have been times when I have been making phone orders and my mobile would drop out every 10 seconds! After holding for 45 minutes to speak to a customer service rep about it the call dropped out :/

I went into a vodafone shop to ask what was going on (this was around a year ago) and I was totally lied to! They said it was due to maintenance on the 3g tower in the area I lived in. Said to turn off my 3g and it will work again. What a lame solution. Its a SMART PHONE for crying out loud! I use my 3g (or tried to)!

So in the end, after multiple call drop outs and failed attempts, I left. Nothing else left to do really. Its not going to be fixed any time soon.
30 Apr 2011 10:05:23 PM: You 3G enables you to connect to the internet at faster speeds, as well as receive MMS. If your 3G tower was under maintenance then your 3G is down. Despite this, your phone will continuing trying to pull bandwidth through this tower. As there is none, it will fail in this and you will receive poor service. Turning your 3G off will switch it to a lower GHz, which will be working, and allow you to make a call no worries. At the sake of your internet you will be able to use your phone. If this is a problem then it is your fault for becoming so reliant on your phone.

26 Apr 2011 04:41:28 PM: Vodafone doesn't make the handsets
26 Apr 2011 05:14:12 PM: True, but they do provide them as part of the contract, by default they have a duty of care.
26 Apr 2011 10:33:52 PM: Which is why they all have a 24 month warranty to cover repairs within the contract period. What more do you want? The carrier has nothing to do with the handset fault.

17152 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Rubbish at 26 Apr 2011 01:59:43 PM
I have recently been released from my Vodafone contract after 14 months. I finally got fed up of having a 3G smartphone that I couldn't use because of the pathetic network. I drive 45 mins to work every day and use that time to call people, catch up etc. Unfortunately there were so many blackspots along the route that I would routinely have 4 or 5 call drop-outs. When I finally got to work I would rarely have full 3G coverage (despite the coverage maps suggesting otherwise) and if I walked inside any of the buildings at work the network dropped out completely.

I went to the Vodafone store requesting to be released from my contract only to be told that I would have to call customer services and that they (the store employees) couldn't do it for me. Just another reason why I'm happy to have left, the only thing they are interested in doing in store is signing you up to a contract, there is zero customer support. By making you ring the call centre you are effectively at arms distance and don't have to deal with your frustrations face to face.

I'm not happy about it but I have gone to Telstra; they are more expensive and the handsets aren't as good but at least I can use my 3G phone now anywhere I like...

Thanks for the ranting space Vodafail!!!

After seemingly hours waiting without resolution on the phone this appears to be the next best approach. My wife and I both have Voda plans contracted 15 months ago on the basis of imminent upgrades to service facilities in Northern Tasmania. However, because of the extremly bad coverage we have both had to maintain PAYG phones with Telstra/Optus to remain in contact with Business/Family and above all to use in an emergency. Requests to Voda for an update as to when service enhancements will be made in the region result in vague promises. How long will it be that we need to maintain two PAYG OPTUS phones averaging $30 each per month for the privilege of subscribing to a mostly unreliable phone/SMS service and steam driven internet access?

December 2011 - when my contract expires with Vodafone - can't come any sooner. I can't wait to go to Optus or Telstra where reliable mobile phone service is what you pay for. I can't forget the time when I made a request to Vodafone via their website to have my mobile on global roam and when I went to my destination, I discovered my mobile had absolutely no coverage. Having arrived late at night in an unfamiliar destination, I expected to have mobile coverage so I could call my friends and family to know I landed safely. I was lucky enough to have a relative who had an old phone I could borrow for the length of my stay and in a country where I could buy a local sim card. I am very disappointed with Vodafone for this very poor experience....

I also want to ask the powers that be: how can one party (i.e. the consumer) terminate the contract and avoid paying the exit fee as a result of the other party's (i.e. Vodafone) failure to provide a decent, reliable service? How many complaints must one have made in the past?

My Vodaphone mobile keeps dropping out within the first 2minutes of a phone call no madder who I'm calling or what network the other person is on and my location doesn't seem to be the problem either as is just started happening 1week ago. Was on hold to VHA's customerservice for 65min but then gave up, but realized latter that I need the problem fixed urgently as it's now affecting my job, still on hold again with VHA customerservice and it being 60min! I'm changing networks ASAP, not happy Vodaphone!
26 Apr 2011 11:32:01 AM: I know what you mean, I'm now with another network provider and my calls constantly drop out when I call someone that's with Vodaphone, all I can say is considering today how important a mobile is to the average person it's well worth the few extra dollars per month for a reliable service provider

17141 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is TERRIBLY at 26 Apr 2011 11:19:48 AM
Had a problem in that Vodafone was repeatedly emailing to advise that the attempt to auto recharge my account failed. Twice a day, nearly every day for many months. They were trying to bill me for someone elses account on an old credit card number of mine that had been expired for nearly 2 years.

I rang them over a six month period at least twice a month. ON HOLD TIME was never less than 45 minutes.

Every time I spoke to them in their Malaysian call centre after getting on to someone whos accent was capabale of being understood, was promised that the problem was fixed.

So finally after MORE THAN 14 HOURS on hold and talking to people with a poor understanding of English, I got to speak to one of their supervisors, a lady named Magna, who helped finally fix it.

Yea!

Curiously enough I have never had a coverage problem with Vodafone, but vodafones customer service is pure crap.

Vodafone tells me I have to give the phone back or pay equivalent amount before cancelling. I have had the contract for about 12 months. Is this the case?
26 Apr 2011 04:45:03 PM: Give the phone back, of course. Unless you've paid for it or completed a full contract, it's not actually your phone
30 Apr 2011 12:18:11 PM: Contact the Telecommunication Industry Ombudsman. They got me out of my $70 per month contract and I was able to port my number to another telco and also keep the phone. If you have an Iphone, they are easy to unlock. Also the Iphone 5 is due out in a couple of months.

In my opinion, they have concentrated on profits to their demise. I know of cases where years ago, unending complaints did nothing, save attract the legal department with force. Even when faced with overwhelming evidence against them, they pursued without remorse. The key people make the decisions, their desire to please their masters with profits must have limits or trickery prevails. Tricky and deceptive, are the two most effective words to describe
them. Give them half a chance and they will bury you. Don't quit, good luck.
26 Apr 2011 07:53:51 AM: couldn't agree more with this post.

I just wish ACCC and ACMA would act sooner rather than later. They have been conducting "enquiries" for literally years, and haven't acted. They need to do two things;

i) "automatic reimbursement" for any sub-standard service. I.e if there's more than 1 hour of downtime per month that needs to be reimbursed WITHOUT the customer having to complain endlessly about it

ii) they need to clearly state how shit the customer service is. We in Autralia are used to pretty decent (or at least literate) customer service, and Vodafone takes advantage of us by serving us up crap on a platter and then relies on others to call us racist when we can't understand a word they are saying. Don't get me wrong, it's not only those customer service reps in Mumbai that suck, the Aussie one's they are hiring are complete drop-kicks too!
26 Apr 2011 07:59:16 AM: and I also wish they (ACCC and ACMA) didn't rely on vigilante justice through complaint websites like this - there is obviously a problem - 17000 to be more exact, so I wish they'd take our tax-payer-dollars and go fix it!

Adam Brimo has done more for Australia's telecommunications market than has been done by the ACCC and ACMA combined! If it weren't for him we'd all be completely unaware of how extenisive the problems with Vodafone are, and we'd have virtually no recourse (notice how the call centre staff lie to you and tell you there's nothing wrong, at first they do anyway). Cheers, Adam!
26 Apr 2011 08:31:58 AM: oh, and iii) they need to promote the Telco Industry Ombudsman on TV and radio, so EVERYONE knows about it.. currently just one in ten people know about it so it can't really serve it's function.
26 Apr 2011 10:04:39 AM: Thanks @26 Apr 2011 07:59:16 AM, I really appreciate your support. It is really sad it had to get as far as making this website, writing a report and collecting all this data just to prove that there are indeed problems. Vodafone has announced plans to fix things however these current problems are a result of years of underinvestment and it will likely take a long time for them to be fixed (it looks like it will require them to replace their whole network as they announced).

The ACCC and ACMA do need to do something. They accepted the Vodafail report as part of their inquiry, which, as you said, has been going on for years. So we have to rely on the media and public complaints to bring issues to life. I hope everyone contacts the TIO and we've been trying to promote them but a lot of people are still unaware. The TIO has seen a huge increase in vodafone complaints last I heard.

Thanks!

Adam

I spent the train ride home on Anzac Day trying to access the web with my 3 broadband service. I could only open 2 web pages in 1 hour of train travel. The rest was spent switching on and off the phone and being frustrated having wasted an hour. I look over and see someone on an iPhone speedily using Google maps, which would take me 10 minutes to load up with 3 Mobile.

Then I come home and read all the comments on Vodafail, all the news articles about Vodafone/3 complaints, and naturally end up here.

I already have a dispute with 3 raised a day ago regarding their broadband service dropouts and sub par dial-up speeds. I was promised a call back and got none so I had to call them. Poor bloke in Mumbai sounds like the only person in the call center. He patches me through to the department, and then I hear a message "the hours we operate are between" and the phone disconnects. Bravo!

Can't wait until Wednesday. I've avoided the TIO for over a year but will finally give them a call to cancel my contract (which by the way I did a week ago through 3 Mobile and have waited for them to call me back in three locations to conduct their investigation - still waiting!).

Unable to use my mobile at work due to no coverage (Lutana) where every other person whos not with Vodaphone has full coverage. I'm fed-up with an unreliable service and will be moving to a more reliable service provider.

17131 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is possibly fraudulent ? at 26 Apr 2011 12:05:17 AM
Anybody know whether the data usage displayed on the Vodafone pocket Wi-Fi is accurate? On the first day of the billing cycle, I reset the device, on the last day of last months' billing cycle, I supposedly used 3.2Gb of Data, but got lumped with a $138 bill (almost $100 of excess usage). This is a serious anomaly, as I'm on the $39 / 8Gb plan, and my own calculations seem to conclude that I'm using around 3-4Gb of data per month. Anybody else having similar issues? I can't help but feel I'm being ripped off. Previously I got by quite nicely with a 6Gb plan on Optus and never, ever exceeded my monthly data quota, always around 3Gb, except for last Xmas, I chewed through 5Gb in one month. My internet usage pattern is precisely the same as before with Optus - running my online business, primarily yahoo email, ebay browsing, internet banking and using sendoutcards.
26 Apr 2011 11:17:11 AM: I was overcharged for data a few months ago too. When I finally got through to the customer service, I was fobbed off with the most ridiculous excuses (apparently I'd used over 1GB of data at 4am some Tuesday, and when I told them it was impossible as I was sleeping at the time, they tried telling me it could be from some app working in the middle of the night....). Got straight onto the Ombudsman and lodged a complaint as I knew I wasn't getting anywhere with Vodafone. Within a week I had a call from VF (shock horror - an Australian!), she apologised and offered me a reimbursement and sen some credit. Moral of the story, looks like the only thing VF is afraid of and pays attention to is the Telecoms Ombudsman. Good luck!
26 Apr 2011 07:28:45 PM: i think there may be anomalies across (all) major carriers when it comes to "measuring" data usage, in Burleigh Waters, I had a Telstra Velocity FTTP broadband service, returned home from an o/s wake-up-call holiday to face a $1500 excess usage bill, despite the fact that there was NOBODY AT HOME for SIX WEEKS, a whole billing period with ZERO USAGE. i had to waste a lot of my (valuable) time proving my innocence. WTF? Passport stamps on my passport weren't good enough (your kids might have been using your service - interesting because I never disclosed to Telstra that I was either married, seperated, or had kids living with me, but they pointed out to me several blog posts from me stating that I "had the kids for a weekend out of every two" - so Telcos and their legal eagles do research on google.. Ummm fair enough, but this pathetic episode wasted so much of my time and resources, I could have spent building my goals and dreams, to get out of this loser country and join my parents in re-joining civilization and get out of that overpriced downunder.

17130 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Extremely fed up. at 25 Apr 2011 11:59:23 PM
Contracts SHOULD BE ILLEGAL, a phone company should have CONSEQUENCES for the way they run their businesses. My suggestion is to follow my lead, REFUSE to pay your bills, I've already been threatened with disconnection, and as soon as outbound calls are barred and internet access is suspended, then I'm switching to either Telstra or Optus. As far as the remaining 15 months of contract is concerned, FOLLOW MY LEAD - REFUSE TO PAY. Tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine. If enough of us collectively refuse to pay our Vodafone and 3 bills, then perhaps they will either shape up or ship out. Aussie consumers aren't the braindead zombie morons you people at Vodafone think they are. wait and see.
26 Apr 2011 03:41:11 PM: Not such a good idea. Non payment of accounts will result in a negative impact on your credit rating. Good luck joining another provider if you have bad credit. Actually, good luck doing anything with bad credit.
I had similar problems that everyone is reporting - I called Vodafone and let them know of my problems. We tried another handset, a replacement SIM and then they OFFERED to cancel my contract. So I did. Total time to bail and join another carrier: within 36 hours.
26 Apr 2011 03:47:50 PM: If you are disputing what vodafone is charging you then file a complaint with the TIO. In the complaint to the TIO you can tell them the amount of money in dispute, once you complete this complaint you will not have to pay that amount until the complaint is resolved. Regardless, the damage to your credit rating from not paying your account is not worth it. File a complaint and dispute the charges if there is a problem.

Goodluck!

26 Apr 2011 06:49:05 PM: thanks.. quite frankly I don't care about my credit rating. Most of my income is generated o/s. Have a UBS Mastercard, paying 5.6%pa interest, and currently paying off 2 properties I purchased (TX and PA, USA) for $usd68'000 and $usd49'000 respectively, both are positively geared and are currently returning about $200 to $300 per month after management expenses and insurance. Why the hell anybody would want to live in an overpriced loser country like Australia is just beyond me, unless you're one of those boat people from a war-torn or famine country.... TIO complaint being compiled at the moment, Telstra already approved me for the services I'm going to tell Vodaphoney and "3" to stick up their rear ends. More people should take this approach. Telcos in this place are so pathetic, but they DO listen to the TIO and release customers when a valid complaint is made, with supporting documentation. My parents left loser country Australia 8 years ago and haven't looked back. One would reasonably expect that if you pay top dollar for services you receive a corresponding quality to go with it, not here. Then again, average aussie will say she'll be right, mobile phone services in South Africa are the pits, aren't we a lucky bunch.... Good work on the vodafail site, though. Double-thumbs up.

17129 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Pathetic. Going to refuse to pay bill at 25 Apr 2011 11:58:47 PM
I live in the middle of Robina, Vodafone mobile broadband I'm lucky to get 1-2 bars of coverage, constantly dropping out the connection, what's more, the way they measure data is highly inaccurate, as I'm being over-charged, supposed to be $39 for 8Gb of monthly data, I'm currently consuming in the vincinity of 2-3Gb per month, yet got lumped with a $138 bill.

My iPhone is with 3, and their service is just as sub-standard. Struggling to maintain 1-2 bars of signal strength, even if I swap SIM's to my Nokia 6500 or my housemate's Samsung Galaxy. I spend good money advertising my business, and incoming calls just drop out. You can't run a business like this, Vodafone and 3 are a joke, finally I understand WHY there are 24 month contract on mobile services, and exit fees, their only purpose is to discourage dissatisfied customers from readily switching carriers.

Funny thing about the pocket wifi that Vodafone have been pushing.....it has a screen on it which shows what's going on. At 5pm today when it shows "NO SERVICE", the whole weekend when it shows that there's no 3G service, the times that it's sitting on 2G service (seriously) are all visible to the user. The only thing that's not visible is the page you want on the internet.

Poor form.

for people who were with vodafone before the issues arised, then you have every right to be mad.

but for those who are naive or stupid and joined whilst the network has issues. well, ur naive and stupid. seriously. if your going to start a contract, do some bloody research. I always check network maps and purchase a cheap prepaid sim card to monitor reception in my area.

it takes 1-2 days, its not hard people. you get what you pay for.
vodafone is cheap and the service is mediocre, three is cheap but u roam on telstra, optus lacks good data services and telstra is over priced because they can be.

go get a blank sim and monitor reception. when you purchase a car or a house ( i no stupid comparison but relevant) do you purchase on impulse, or do you do a bit of research and test driving/ house open days.

use some brains, seriously.
25 Apr 2011 09:42:14 PM: do you "do reasearch" when you buy a mars bar?

we expect the ACCC to have shut down shonky operators (like Vodafail) and so expect products and services advertised in mainstream media to be pretty fair.

25 Apr 2011 10:42:01 PM: Hey Legend, according to the VF network map there is great coverage where I live. My research on Whirlpool indicated that the VF prepaid service is generally inferior to postpaid, so not much point in trying that. The guy in the shop said that coverage would be fine, or I could bring it back. Turned out reception is crap and getting out of the contract is like getting that last bit of toothpaste out of the tube. Any idea what I should have done differently?
26 Apr 2011 08:00:01 AM: I assume that ,if the provider is in business, I should not have to spent days researching ; I made a decision and went for the best deal of the few providers I compared , in the assumption that 'they' ( the Provider) will deliver the service offered in exchange for money ; when I asked about the broadband coverage in this area , the employee showed me laptop with a map which was fully painted in blue , and his answer was affirmative. Is my fault that the map was painted -as I realise now- with blue crayons?

Been waiting for a call or sms from my son interstate. Very distressing and worrying. Now I understand why I haven't heard from him It's his VF!
Waiting for May when my contract ceases and I can use my phone again. In the meantime I am using Optus prepaid on an old phone that didn't let my down even through the cyclone in Cairns this year. BUT I am extremely AGGRIEVED!
When the story of the security breach came to light, I immediately visited a major Melbourne VF store and consequently spoke with call centre staff and managers (all of whom advised me not to take notice of Australian media). Three times I was assured my phone could be unlocked but only if I paid a penalty for breaching the contract! So who breached the contract!
I have put the phone away and do not use the so called"service".

To avoid the penalty I am making the payments but I want my money back!

17113 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is misleading at 25 Apr 2011 07:06:32 PM
I would like to point out that several staff members (from various Vodafone dealers/stores) have been advised to turn all handsets to 2G mode to assist in network overload - new and existing customers. With this, they are not told to advise the customer of what they are doing unless they specifically question, and even so, are then told to say that they are changing settings on the handset to assist in coverage (although all they are doing is trying to reduce network congestion, which doesn't seem to work that well).

17110 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is People Fail Not Vodafail at 25 Apr 2011 05:36:41 PM
Quite simple really,

Like ANY company you will get the good, the bad, the ugly and sadly like all call centers there will be customers falling through the cracks. This is a disgusting display of human hatred and lack of understanding. I am not going to say 'toughen up' I am going to instead say the simple logical process.

1. If it doesn't work investigate and DON'T expect to get an answer if YOU created the problem (e.g. installed harmful progs/applications on your system/experienced a power outage etc) They are NOT technicians for PC hardware in that sense.

2. If you haven't paid your bill THIS IS YOUR FAULT you signed the contract to pay so much and YOU asked for the service. Getting anrgy and upset it has been restricted or rarely CUT OFF will get you nowhere! Please accept responsibility.

3. If you can't speak english GET HELP or ASK AROUND. Simple if you live in New Zealand and Australia WHAT DO YOU EXPECT an international language center just for you NO this does not even apply in your own country

4. If you have a bad experience place feedback believe me it will get to the right person if you explain this LIKE A HUMAN

5. LISTEN to advice and try YOURSELF to create a contructive call flow simple aye ;/

6. To add above work WITH the agent not AGAINST think about how you would like to be treated and spoken to.

7. Understand things take time and like all business not every system is perfect hence some years are great and others are bad.

8. THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE PREPARE YOUR INFORMATION!!! If it doesn't work why doesn't it work, what can you see, what did you do before the issue it's simple people. If you made a payment and it has NOT shown up then find out where you paid it to. If the service for broadband work but then stops suddenly what are the lights doing? What happened to you're computer? What did you do differently? THIS HELPS!

9. IS IT THE PROVIDERS FAULT YOU WILL LOOSE MONEY ON THE BUSINESS NO!!! Unless this is a BUSINESS account then you will not get any sympathy nor will this speed up ANY process. The only time something can be speed up is when their is a LEGIT MEDICAL REASON AND YES provide evidence! PEOPLE LIE to get what they want thats why they need it!!! Plus most Terms and Conditions will say it is NOT ALLOWED to have a business account on a residential account.

10. DO NOT call through and expect credit for something like an ENTIRE MONTH that is unfair especially if you have only had 1 issue that took a day to resolve. Any compensation is good compensation people.

11. Lastly posting experience that you have on this website is horrible to read and terrible to discuss. It great voice an opinion on a forum/chat blog but to go as far as coverage/how to guides/alternative/what you got/how long you were on hold is disgusting. Please take a look youself to see if you helped or made the situation WORSE in most cases because YOU were impatient you rushed a process that needed time to complete like MOST things in life.

If you have a good experience with someone please call through and ask for them again have you tried this?

I know I am going to get the hate speech after this post but hey I too have had terrible customer service but I don't make a website about it. I simply brush it off but also provide CONSTRUCTIVE feedback to the company providing the services.
25 Apr 2011 05:49:33 PM: Thanks for the commentary. This site was created because Vodafone was denying that any customer service or network problems existed and refused to provide information on when customers' problems would be resolved. As stated previously, creating this website was a last resort as Vodafone didn't want to listen to any standard complaints.

Vodafone finally apologised and announced serious plans on Feb 23rd:
http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/we-are-truly-sorry-vodafone-20110222-1b334.html

If you are looking for constructive feedback you can see the 27 page, 6000 word report ( http://vodafail.com/report.php ) that I wrote on Vodafone's problems and how they could have reacted better to those problems. It also contains suggestions that Vodafone is now largely trying to follow in their plan announced on Feb 23rd.

When products and services are significantly failing for so many people, customers should not ignore it or brush it off. You should try and get the problem resolved (See our how to complain page) but when that becomes difficult you don't just give up. And if it takes national media coverage and a website to make them fix the problem then someone will make an effort and get it done. This time it was me but I'm sure for the next company it will be someone else.

25 Apr 2011 09:23:53 PM: If you have time to write 6000 words and create a website promoting negativity because you had a poor experience for a few weeks, you have too much time on your hands.
25 Apr 2011 09:40:22 PM: OP: you are a complete dickhead
25 Apr 2011 11:12:29 PM: Seriously, why come here to criticize the purpose of this site when you are in the minority.....I don't think that the person with too much time on their hands is the moderator or site owner!

As for working with call centres....the frustrating thing about the Indian call centre is the people who tell you with great authority what the issue is and what's done to fix it, only to find out that nothing happened, there's no record of your call and the next person you speak to doesn't believe anything you say. I work in a call centre here in Australia....if we did that, our business would be investigated quicksmart.
26 Apr 2011 07:28:08 AM: English is my second language, and that might explain why I have difficulties understanding your message : I am still trying to decipher "What happened to you're computer? ", I can not find the word "LEGIT" in the Oxford dictionary , and the fact that you did not use one single 'comma' in the whole document , led me astray. Obviously, you have plenty of time in your hands to become a writer, but it is a real pity that you are dickhead . Don't misunderstand me : I still give you some credit for been able to put a few sentences together, some almost coherent . Please , don't give up !

26 Apr 2011 05:24:06 PM: So, basically you're saying it is OUR fault our emails bills don't arrive in our inbox, even though we have rang them numerous times and triple checked the email address (which is right). I think someone actually works for Vodafone here...
30 Apr 2011 04:56:47 PM: When you ring Vodafone to tell them there's a problem, they won't believe and insist on going through the idotic script of checking all your settings no matter how many times you tell them the problem IS at their end. When they finally realise "enough" people are complaining so the problem is their end, then they are incredibly slow at fixing it (if they even bother at all!), it rarely ever appears on the "Network Status" page, and often simply fails again a few hours / days / weeks later because they didn't fix it, they simply patched it or rebooted the server. :-(

Vodafone changed my voice mail security pin without my knowledge. I called the customer service line and was put on hold for 5 hours before being told that they where not sure as to what the problem was. I finally went to the vodafone store, where the best they could do after 2 hours was disable my voice mail completely.

So now instead of voice mail I cannot access, I simply have no voice mail.

Along with this issue, the signal is flakey at best. Trying to use the 3G connection on my phone to access online banking took 45 minutes. As everytime I passed the security pages, the signal would drop and I would have to start from step 1.

17108 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Pathetic at 25 Apr 2011 04:48:10 PM
Have been with Vodafone since about 2003.

Almost on a daily basis i have no coverage, calls dropping out, not being able to send a text.

The internet coverage is so erratic that there is no way i can trust it. With no regards to how much coverage i have the internet either just doesn't work, has extremely low speeds or is brilliant. At work i sit in the same seat and throughout the day my coverage varies and my internet goes from super quick to non-existant.

I can not remember the last time i've had full coverage, usually two or three bars while others with the exact same phone but different network have perfect, full coverage.

My vodafone mobile broadband stick also has the same issues, works perfectly then just stops for no reason.

I have tried on many occassions to contact vodafone through their customer service phone number, but i have waited for over an hour on hold only to have my call drop out, and have not yet been contacted by Vodafone regardless of me using the 'call back' system.

I had a contract with Vodafone NZ, which i cancelled back in September 2010 (three months after i left NZ). I gave the operator my new address and phone numbers and asked that any remaining bills and fees please be forwarded to me and i would be happy to pay them as i was breaking contract. Last week i received an email from a NZ Debt Collector saying that despite many letters sent to me by both them and Vodafone NZ i haven't paid my overdue fee and if i didn't pay it within a week i would be listed as a debtor in N.Z. AND Australia!
If they had my email all along why didn't they contact me in regards to this earlier, now i have to pay $80 more fees and have a worse credit rating.

VODAFONE, I CAN NOT BE MORE UNHAPPY WITH YOUR SERVICE IN ALL ASPECTS, NOTHING YOU DO HAS MADE ME A HAPPY CUSTOMER AND I BELIEVE, THROUGH MY 8 YEARS OF BEING A CUSTOMER, I HAVE EARNED THE RIGHT TO HAVE MY CONTRACTS CANCELLED AND MY PHONE UNLOCKED

The other day I took a short break down south in a town called Augusta in Western Australia. Now I know coverage in these areas are somewhat sporadic, however in this instance two people I was with had two different iPhone models. One was with 3 the other with Telstra. Both had reception, I had none, not one bar.

25 Apr 2011 09:27:34 PM: 3 and Telstra both run off different towers. 3 in fact share with Telstra for their 'roaming' service. So that would explain why Vodafone has different reception to your friends phones. Nothing you can really complain about. Nobody claims to have 100% coverage nationwide.

I recently purchased a $39 pocket wifi broadband on a 12 month contract, I was advised that my suburb was well in the Vodafone coverage area.

My problem is that I'm constantly required to refresh my web page for the past month. I've reported it to Vodafone & they replied that there is currently work being undertaken in the area & advised me to be patient and wait till the work is complete & if the problem persist, report back to them.

Also, the customer service on Hotline 1555 takes an average of 15 to 20 mins to answer their calls. I hope they sort this out soon as I'm paying a subscription for nothing.
25 Apr 2011 05:43:28 PM: Can be busy some days like any service provider, di you describe in detail the real issue or just say it doesn't work? Cos that will get you no where. Explain in more detail your problem please.
26 Apr 2011 05:21:51 PM: @ 25 Apr 2011 05:43:28 PM: Mate, he has written the post. Why should he go into great detail for you? It's good enough for me, the bloody thing runs like a dog, nuff said.
30 Apr 2011 10:08:19 PM: He wasn't requesting that the issue be explained to him, he was saying that if you explain you problem to customer care in more detail then they will be in a stronger position to resolve your issue. Simply stating 'my internet doesn't work, fix it' will get you nowhere. Also, I would love to see the call centre that connects you almost instantly. 15-20 minutes is very good.

17105 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Service coverage at 25 Apr 2011 02:52:45 PM
I have recently joined Vodafone, due to their cheap plan. It's cheap due to their shitty ass network systems. I have lost coverage in West Perth. Seriously, who provider should lose coverage on a regular basis in West Perth.

My phone calls consistently drop out, i get download speeds of 14kbs -29kbs on a regular occasion, but i've also had up to 2000kbs. these inconsistency frustrate me. it is embarrassing to try and download something at these speeds in front of potential clients. When they whip out their blackberry's on their Telstra plan, no problem.

So i called their team who deals with complaints. I spoke with the person on the line and he their internal systems are down and someone would call me within 2 hours, 6 days ago. Still no phone call, possibly due to no network coverage in the city.

I run a small company and we have 7 mobiles within the group, the Vodafone network is consistently failing I personally drop around an average of 7 calls a day and I'm in the metro area including the CBD. The service appears to be getting worse and even better still I have made complaints to Vodafone technical service and to the TIO and they have resulted in nothing, I would say that on average the company would drop around 35 calls a day, which is just not good enough. I have asked Vodafone to cancel our contract due to the above problems only to be told "no problem sir that will cost you around $7500.00 which is the amount of the plan for the remainder of the contract", no way!! My issue is this, I run a business I talk to my clients, when a call drops out then I have to call my client back, when this happens 4 times during the same conversation that's way too much. If any other business failed so miserably in providing a service they would be a long distance memory by now. We all sign contracts but in the contract two parties agree to 1. pay the bill for the service provided 2. The company guarantees to provide a service which works. If one of the parties do not hold up to the agreement the contract is void. I want out of this joke so that I can give my money to another provider that will actually give me what I'm paying for, even if it costs a little extra!!
25 Apr 2011 05:47:31 PM: If it is a business plan they will understand if it isn't then be expected to have no sympathy. Change providers if it doesn't work will eventually land you back in square 1 they will let you down at one point in time.
25 Apr 2011 05:58:00 PM:
Why can't a provider be sympathetic?

Surely that is part of Customer Care, with the emphasis on the word Care.

17101 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Massively so at 25 Apr 2011 01:40:48 PM
It would take hours to write the story, these are just the highlights:
1) Started in July 2010 - ordered a Nexus One on a plan via the Vodafone web-site - numerous delays in delivery - it was next week for six weeks, but no notifications or updated order status, just hours on the phone listening to Lara telling me how important my call is...
2) after 6 weeks I was told it wasn't available despite still being advertised online
3) Changed to Samsung Galaxy S - more delays
4) Finally had to go to a store to get it sorted (thanks to the girls at Vodafone Camberwell)
5) Reveive phone 3 montsh after ordering
6) The otherwise very helpful girls put me on a different plan than what I had originally signed up for - no IDD calls included in cap, which was one of the reasons I was switching in the first place
7) More listening to Lara, she really needs to go and get an upgrade, finally told that the plan I had originally signed up for was no longer avaialble
8) Truth be told, I was so over it I did nothing for a couple of months until the first bill shock
9) This time went to the Vodafone store at Southland, great service despite their obvious battle with inadequate and unbelievably slow data systems, finally got on a plan that suited my usage and got a substantial credit
10) Credit not processed, my service was vut off even though technically speaking Vodafone "owed" me money at the time
11) Unable to log in to my MyVodafone (because my phone had been cut off, I presume)
12) More time with Lara (I really don't like her any more) got back on
13) Unfortunately still have 18 months left on my contract, will never, ever come back after that, can only hope I won't have to talk to Lara or anyone else at Vodafone again!

Oh, i forgot, tried to log in to myVodafone to find last months bill, system was down and redirected me to the WebSpehere login screen instead - really classy.

But the real issue is what must be a complete lack of Corporate Governance at Vodafone, how on earth can the CEO and other senior managers still be in charge after what history will no doubt show up as one of the worst managed company mergers in Australian corporate history?

17100 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is next to useless at 25 Apr 2011 01:37:15 PM
We have absolutely zero reception in our house which can be frustrating for friends, family and employers trying to call, the signal will still get through on standby but as soon as you start talking the call drops almost instantly, we tend to have to go outside to call someone.

BTW This music video parody about 3 and Vodafone's terrible coverage is brilliant, go check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=306OsChFw0A
25 Apr 2011 05:48:27 PM: Change providers and experience the same things but in a different location
26 Apr 2011 05:24:17 PM: Not with Telstra or Optus you don't.
27 Apr 2011 06:52:40 AM: agreed. Housemate has an Optus service, 4-5 bars of coverage. Consistently. My iphone with 3, and mobile broadband with vodafraudster sometimes has 3 or 4 bars, sometimes 1, sometimes no coverage. It's so inconsistent, does 3 and vodafone use crap basestation equipment or what? Sometimes good coverage, sometimes non-existent, in the same location. Housemate's Optus signal is consistently 4 bars+ - my iPhone is unlocked, so I can swap SIM's - his Optus sim gives me 4 bars, vodafone and 3, hardly a bar or two.
We go to Robina Town Center, we both have full service on our mobile broadbands, we both fire up the same website (courier mail - to watch a video embedded in a news story - we both click play at the same time, Optus connected lappie takes 3-4 seconds and the video starts playing. My vodafraudsters connected lappie, 45 seconds later, video starts, 5 seconds later it stops, then 15 seconds later, a few more seconds of play. THIS IS FUCKIN PATHETIC .

Free calls between myself and a friend also on 3/Vodaphone have been fine for years with 3; since Vodaphone took over, these calls drop out pretty reliably after ten minutes....is this Vodaphone trying to discourage the free calls which were used to get us to sign up with 3?

17097 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is often and completely at 25 Apr 2011 12:24:06 PM
I live less than 5km from the centre of the largest non-metropolitan city in Queensland and have begun leaving my phone at home when I travel around to visit friends who are in other suburbs as, more often than not, I can't get a signal strong enough to answer calls. Recently I travelled from Canberra to North Queensland by road on the inland route - I had reception for about two hours out of Canberra, then almost nothing until I reached Townsville, apart from a signal inside a few larger towns such as Roma. Others in the car had much longer and more frequent reception from another provider. There's a lesson there somewhere, I guess.

I have a Vodafone wireless internet USB stick & pay monthly to have this "privilege" - yeah right.
I live close to a fairly major regional city, so my reception should be pretty good - you would think.
At least 3-4 times a week, my internet will not connect. Either the software has a meltdown or the USB stick can't find reception. For me, it's exciting when my internet reaches speeds of 7kbps! Anything above that is a (rare) bonus.
Of course, if you want to do anything about it, you have to ring some stupid number & listen to some stupid automatic voice - which then charges me on my non-Vodafone mobile. No point going in store either, they just look at me dumbly & tell me to go home & call the support line.

Had a weak signal at home (Helensburgh, halfway down the hill) for over 12 months, but 3 weeks ago, patchy signal. 2 weeks ago, NO signal, and it's never come back. Nothing has change on our property, my phone works fine at the top of the Hill and at the bottom of the hill.

A close friend, in a similar locale has had the exact same experience. We have to drive or walk 100-200m to get a weak signal, or 500m to get a reasonable signal. The only place I can get a full signal is on the Railway Station, but is soon drops out as we head north towards Sutherland.

I work from home... so I am loosing calls and sms and therefore loosing business. Vodafone's response is to give me a discount and recommend that I divert my phone (oh, and yes we will charge you for the diversion, but it is discounted). A discount on a phone that has no signal is not really a discount.

Always had trouble with SMS turning up hours, days or even a few times weeks after they have been sent, right from the first day of the contract.

Whinge Whinge Whinge Whinge Whinge, I am sick of the sound of my own voice. Time to get out I think.

Really tired of Vodafone... calls constantly drop out, had to make 7 calls for one 15 minute conversation just the other day. Consistently get about 8kbps sec 3G speeds and today no SMS messages.

I don't even think they value their customers! More than 2 hours between updates on SMS issues on their web site and they call it "user difficulties" to boot, not "Customers suffering due to our poorly maintained network". The people manning the @VodafoneAU_Help account on Twitter left at 5, poor considering the extent of the SMS issues and I'm guessing running the call centre gauntlet would be totally useless.

Disappointed Vodafone, very disappointed.
25 Apr 2011 12:44:46 PM: Too bad, if I could paste a graphic here i would upload my data usage from my Samsung Galaxy S on Vodafone. No problem with connectivity, able to chew through my 3GB a month! no fixed location as I travel alot, maybe that helps!

I can not get reception in the middle of shopping centers, in my house which is 50m from a Vodafone tower. This was confirmed from Vodafone them selves. I can't get reception at work (MELB Airport). Even when i have full bars i get call failed. Limited 3G coverage. Cant browse internet. Can't use facebook.

Vodafone have wavered 3 months of bills and if im not happy by then im to ring them back.

I was told that Melb Airport was to have an upgrade by the 1st April... i still can not get reception there....

The Calder Hwy from Bendigo has NO coverage... a national Hwy has none. I can't get coverage in Bendigo its self... even standing next to the Vodafone store in the main shopping center.

The first time i contacted them they threw it back on my phone settings... after over 24 hrs of phone calls and the 'new' settings has changed nothing.

Im over them...
25 Apr 2011 12:48:00 PM: A couple of points for you..

1. 50m from a tower probably isnt the best place to try get reception. The optimum range would be far further than 50m. Cell towers can transmit up to 10km.
2. Vodafone works fine in both 2G and 3G at Melbourne airport. What type of handset to you use?
3. Vodafone stores dont have cell transmitters in them, you funny fucker! Why would standing outside one help!!

You sound like you need to be on Telstra :)
