26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

18997 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Wheres my cans and string... at 31 Jul 2011 11:03:08 PM
Life and work in Brisbane City, no coverage, no confirmation from VF as to why, "there is a technical issue, we dont know when it will be fixed, we are sorry..."

THats what we can expect after waiting for 25 minutes, then they call you back within 17 minutes, only to give you this rubbish.

How much more do they need to do before the Federal Government launches an enquiry into the abuse and mockery of the Trade Practices Act this company is actively participating in. We have endured 19 months of what has been the WORST performing contract I have EVER signed and I sing many on a daily basis. Deep breath....only 152 days to go until contract expires. I receive sms messages offering phones and other contracts from them, I would rather a couple of cans and piece of string than this service they offer.

The Federal Government should hang their heads in shame.

18996 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is rude at 31 Jul 2011 10:13:12 PM
3 weeks into 24 month 50 dollar cap handset proves faulty. Vodafone verifies in store that it is indeed faulty. (so has HTC who advised me to contact them after trouble shooting had failed). Vodafone's response is repair must be attempted 3 times before new handset issued. Further, I should't complain anyway as most of the other features worked. Very rude as well. This is first contact with Vodafone and will be last. Family has been with 3 mobile-several contracts & satified- but will leave when expired.
10 Aug 2011 04:19:23 PM: 3 weeks is less than 28 days, hence should be an immediate swap if the fault wasn't caused by you. I.e. you dropped it. Call up vodafone customer care, explain this to them and if they won't replace it then you definitely should make a complaint with the TIO. Source: Previous VF employee.

I have had enough! Text messages are being received up to 2hours after being sent and i have not been able to send a text or make a call over a 24 hour period. Now over the last week i am getting texts from my colleges and friends saying they can't call me. I have tried getting my friend to call my phone while we were sitting opposite, first time was disconnected, second time got through, and third and fourth time were also disconnected. Now just last night i was chatting to my friend and our call was dropped out god knpws how many times. Now i realise after reading others have the same issues that it is not my handset, IT IS the vodafone network that is letting me down, plus because of this i have possibly missed business calls regarding future work prospects that i have been anticipating over the last month.Icant even connect to the internet. For what i pay to have a full service thi s is just not acceptable.

Also having the same problems in QLD, where internet isn't working on the phone. They keep telling people to check status updates, but the service status updates say there's nothing going on in QLD.

Also, what the hell kind of contact centre says "we're currently experiencing higher than normal call volumes, please go online for your question", which to me translates to "lolz, we're busy, piss off". Plus in this case, that is moot, because not being able to connect to the internet is the ACTUAL PROBLEM (ignoring the fact I am posting this from my home computer :P).

Anyway, not much we can do, just really needed to vent.

Currently we have had no data available on the Gold Coast Southport area since 6.30 AM. When you call Vodafone they say that they have internal technical issues and cannot take your call, you then get transferred then they hang up on you. Have called over 14 times this morning. Then try sending an email to network feedback. Its a complete waste of time.

18985 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is constantly drops out.... at 30 Jul 2011 03:16:07 PM
I am having constant dropouts on my mobile internet connection - using either the pocket wifi or even the dongle. It shows me that I am connected to the internet but I am often unable to open web sites. I am constantly having to re-connect and refresh the web pages as it is constantly dropping out on me. This is every time that I use my connection I have to do the same thing, so if on the computer for 3 hours at night - approximately half that time is spent trying to re-connect or refresh. I have rung several times complaining about this only to have someone try to tell me it is nothing to do with the service but some setting on my computer. Due to the instability of the connection, I am unable to log into my accounts on my own computer, so am having to do all that from work. I have even tried a replacement sim card and there has been no difference. I am unfortunately currently on a contract and as I'm not getting the service that I'm paying for I am wanting to get out of the contract.
I even put complaint about this direct to vodafone and got a response back telling me to get a replacement sim and that complaint was solved..... They obviously didn't actually read the complaint in the first place.
1 Aug 2011 12:50:18 AM: I have this issue as well. I doubt very much that it is computer related, more Vodafone-related. I live in West Perth. When this occurs, I try getting reception with the same modem and try out two different computers. The same issues will haunt me on both computers. And I have tried all possible solutions. Definitely Vodafone's fault here.

I got charged for excess data usage where i have only been accessing the usual websites like previous months. I stayed well below the data limit over the past 2 years. Couple of days in this billing cycle I was charged with massive data usage. I called the customer service and all the response they can give is "it's your fault. You deal with it". This is the last nail in the coffin for me as I put up with the network for the past few months where I can not even get coverage in the Melbourne CBD and have to walk like a mad man holding up the phone. Very good example of how not to treat your customers.

18981 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is SLOW SLOW SLOW DATA at 30 Jul 2011 10:50:35 AM
Reception using a Pocket Wifi at Bargara 4670 is always slow, rarely do we get 3G coverage and device usually operates on H. At busy telecomms times of the day reception often is too slow to be operative, ie slow download of 20KB/s reduces to 1 - 5 KB/s and becomes in-operable.

Since they announced an upgrade of the system many weeks ago the in-operability has become much worse. Have had this device for 3 months, the last two months of which have been BAD ! ! Tech support stated download speed ought to be around 400 KB/s.........400 !!!! After testing their equipment I was told I am in a poor reception area, to which I asked why it seemed to be resonable during the first month's use of the device and why it does work to a satisfactory level of 50 - 100 KB/s early morning time ?

We also have a Vodafail mobile which also has reception problems in our house as does a Telstra mobile and Telsta USB broadband stick. ADSL is not avalable here, so wireless broadband is our only option. We are trapped in a Telecommuncation TIME WARP and fed a constant stream of CRAP from Vodafail & Telstra the infrastructure supplier.

Will keep on complaining and seek a reduction in monthy fees, it's not worth $60 a month when we can't even use Skype VOIP to make calls.

I signed up with Vodafail in 2003 well before internet was available on mobile phones. I have been on the 'no plans' plan the entire time. My average monthly bill is about $10. This month I bought a new 3G phone. When setting up the phone I downloaded 21mb of data. Have just received a bill for $355 for this data. Data fees didn't exist when I first signed my contract so I was never aware of, or consented to, the data fees I'm now being slugged with. Vodafail no longer offers the 'no plans' plan and I have not been able to find any pricing guides online or in store, but according to Vodafail's Indian Contact Centre, I should have been aware of the charges and am expected to pay.

After having so many issues with speed (no faster then dial-up most of the times), I though I would try the Vodafail's community forum in hope to have the issue looked at and fixed. While they may show they want to help on the forum, they fail to call within the times you give them as to when you're available and when you miss the call, they state they will call you back but they don't. Stay well away from this company. Time for the TIO.

18975 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is In need of Australian logic! at 29 Jul 2011 09:45:47 PM
I'm upgrading from the iPhone 3 to the iPhone 4, and was told that I need to get a new smaller SIM card. So I dropped in to my local store and everything was fine until they told me that my password is incorrect. I said I didn't know what else it could be, so they called Customer Service in India. Then I get told that the computer says that the phone number belongs to someone else, and that I failed every identification question! They won't even tell me what the name is on the account even though I was able to prove that I owned the number! They refused to do anything about it and said they weren't going to discuss it with me any further! Now I have a brand new phone that is completely useless and even Vodafone's own staff are unable to convince Customer Service to help me!
30 Jul 2011 10:30:52 PM: If you pay your pill via credit card, don't pay it at all. You can't get in trouble for not paying a bill under someone elses name. If they don't wish to help resolve the issue then take your business else where.

My daughter's iPhone on a $29 cap plan clocked up $5 "roaming" internet charges last month. Roaming is being displayed even at home in the heart of the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The idea of paying for roaming due to Vodafone network dropouts in such an area is a bit rich! Roaming is fair enough in remote areas but not in metro areas that should have full service!

Dropped Calls, Delayed Voicemail, Poor Reception & Slow Data Rates are just the start!

Brisbane Customer's Journal of Calls to Vodaphone

April 2011 - spoke to Vodaphone about problems with coverage & was given 3 x 50% discounts on phone bill
and buy the end of June, 'improvements will be noticed with our upgrades"

Improvements were not noticed, in fact were worse.

1st July 2011 - (Spoke to Affan)
- called about problems and investigation raised & they would contact me in 3 working days.

8th July, 2011(Spoke to Vishal)
- Still no call, So phoned them & they are still looking into problem.
- Can't say what has been done, (if anything) they will call within next 72 hours

11th July, 2011 (Spoke to Feema)
- No Call as yet, they will contact me later today & didn't receive a callback.

12th July, 2011 (Spoke to Parvez)
- Apologise on no call back, they will call be back in 10 mins
- Receive a call 30mins later, apologise on delay in calling me back
- Network team are investigating still, may take another 5 days)
- SMS text sent 5 Hrs later stating:
SMS - "HI, WE'RE STILL WORKING ON THE ISSUE, & WE'LL ADVISE YOU OF ANY CHANGES, THANKS VODAPHONE"

25th July, 2011 (Spoke to Moshan)
- I called them up as no update, gave examples of my problems again will get back to me in 3 to 4 days from Networking engineers

27th July, 2011 (Spoke to Moshan)
*** receive a call from the networking engineer, saying there is no problem, with dropped calls after looking into the problem, i asked about the slow data rate & THE PHONE CALL DROPPED (PHONE HAD 3 BARS & 3G AREA)

- Called back straight away (Spoke to Niltesa) no notes saying anyone had called me, still looking into problem, if the called dropped they'll call in the next 1-2 hours. Requested to speak to a supervisor, they were busy &would call me back within 1 hr.

- Supervisor never called.

28th July, 2011 (spoke to Vishan)
- I called them & recapped problem with ref number and passed into Tech Team

(spoke to Shetal)
- recapped problem again & quoted ref number & would pass me onto the Tech Support Team

(spoke to Geyshea)
- Recapped problem, quoted ref number again, apologise on not getting call back.
- Asked why my phone call dropped out while having 3 bars & 3G , suggested it was the other persons line, i then mentioned i was talking to Vodaphones Tech Engineers who had contacted me stating that there was no problem with their coverage.
- She said need to check some things will call you back.

Receive call from Geyshea (15mins alter) - Changed investigation form investigation to a complaint & would receive
50% discount on next 3 phone bills, Updates in area are being done, so should see results soon.

RESULT - discounted bills for 3 months - coverage problems, dropped calls, slow data rates remain.

WAS IT WORTH IT? - not really, i have better things to do with my time. But wanted to let people aware of this - complain enough & eventually you'll be given a discount because they are aware that their coverage is not good.

29 Jul 2011 09:48:28 PM: Well done on keeping a detailed record of your discussions with Vodafone. Will make it easier for you if you need to escalate your issues to the TIO.

Agree with you about the discounts. Not worth much. Prefer to be receiving a reliable service where we can confidently make and receive calls and text, and an internet service that is usable.
30 Jul 2011 01:35:25 AM: Lucky. When I complained about the same thing early this year I got completely ignored. No response past the automated reply. When I complained again in April, all I was offered was a reduced exit fee. They made it sound like a good deal. Just pay $300 and you get to walk away right now and KEEP YOUR PHONE! Woohoo!
Not a cent worth of discount, not a bar worth of reception.

due to upgrading local network, when people call me they may get a message telling them "THIS NUMBER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED." Or they go straight to voicemail. This will last for 3 months!!! It's intermittent and there is nothing vodaphone can do about, they are not even willing to look into this issue for me. They offered 25% discount, without me asking as they know the upgrade is creating issues. But there is nothing on their website stating there may be issues. Area is (North Perth). Whats the point of having a phone when I can have no idea that someone has tried and failed to reach me. What if the call is urgent??? I don't understand why an upgrade needs to affect the current service to this degree. Not happy at all.
29 Jul 2011 01:52:10 PM: North Perth issues: yep often hear -days/weeks later- that friends think i've been cut off or not paid my bill.

Vodaf***- a class apart in how amazingly poor their network and service is. In the heart of Sydney(CBD area), I don't have network coverage. Brilliant stuff! Can manage to barely use the internet on my phone. But somehow when the bills come, data usage shown is in excess of 300 MB. How is this possible? Their "tech support" team gives me bulls**t spiel on automatic updates on apps. Then there is this ridiculous joke of a service called 1512.Apparently there is a lag of 48 hours in updating usage. Why have the service at all in the first place? I check my usage before I go overseas, and when I come back to Sydney and check my usage again, 70 MB on my data plan has been mysteriously used up. When I call Vodaf*** to clarify, they ask me to wait until the bill arrives to have a "better idea" of the charges and then call them again (yeah sure. I have nothing better to do than spend precious time on these calls).I'm on a 29 dollar cap and barely use my phone, however my bills for the last two months are in the range of 150-180 dollars.Vodaf*** tells me there is "nothing wrong with their billing system". I'm running out of patience.

I called up Vodafone saying that I get reception issues and frequent drop outs when I am driving or at a shopping center.
They say that THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE SERVICE WHEN I AM MOVING ON MOTORWAYS AND BUSES AND TRAINS..... On top of it they say that my iPhone 3Gs is a problem and I should use a Nokia. I asked if the iPhone was a problem and I had to buy a Nokia then why did they sell an iPhone and they said that we just sell what the customers ask for... They are so god damn stupid ... What do I do...
29 Jul 2011 06:57:08 PM: Don't get a Nokia! Especially an N8. I got one from vodafone at the start of the year and had nothing but reception problems.. not to mention freezing and battery life the Nokia phone gave me. Vodafone, you always blame either the user, the phone, the sim card, the modem. Take a close hard look at yourself in the mirror. The problem is a lot closer to home. It's your NETWORK.

I have been on a $20 plan for years and I have always paid my account on time and only rarely go over my call limits. I got a new I phone this month, put in my sim card and despite having no coverage in the house I have just moved into, I received a statement from Vodafone for my monthly account of $612.30!!!!! This is over two and a half YEARS worth of call totals in one month. It is all in data downloads which are not on my plan, despite the fact that I haven't actually accessed the internet from my new phone. I have tried calling Vodafone and have spoken with India but after wasting an hour of my life I am no clearer on just why I have such a huge bill. The staff don't call back when they say they will and I have sat on hold for 30 mins without their customer service bothering to pick up my call. Surprisingly, I don't have endless hours to devote to waiting on the phone for Vodafone. I know I am not an important customer to them but I can in no way afford to pay $612.30 for data charges I have not used. Hmmmm, I do feel a little bit better now....thank you Vodafail!

When I purchased the Iphone4 in April/May It was faulty right off the bat. My wife and I purchased 2 IPhone4's the same day and mine was obviously having trouble with reception as it was 3 bars lower at all times vs the wifes phone. i took it back the next day and the told me that they won't replace it and that they would have to send it away for 2 weeks for testing. Needless to say I was quite angry at that but they didn't really seem to care either way and just blamed Apple. When i mentioned I wanted a refund they told me I couldn't because I had signed a 2 year contract and If i wasnted out I would have to pay $39x 24 months to break the contract. Phone was away for over 2 weeks and I tried to ring the Carindae store where I purchased the IPhone4 and was met with the phone just ringing out over and over again. I had actually noticed that when I was in the store. The phone wuld be ringing off the hook and the staff would just ignore it. So i went into the store and they had the replacement phone there and it had apparently been sitting there for 5 days. When I asked "wtf why didn't you call me" I was told that they have made attempts to contact me. I told then they didn;t and they basically just kind of shrugged and asked if I wanted my replacement phone or not.

So now i'm stuck in a 2 year contract with a company of this calibre.... Awesome. :(
28 Jul 2011 10:55:36 PM: Have you tried the TIO? They are pretty helpful and will help force vodafone to sort out your problem or let you out of your contract early without charge. Their details are on the 'how to complain' page.

18958 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 3G Fail at 28 Jul 2011 03:37:24 PM
I work in Brisbane city and I get the feeling that the 3G network here is over subscribed or just simply crap. I sit in my office and look at my iPhone 4 3g. It has a full 5 bars of reception and the 3g data connection and yet the 3g network simply doesnt work most of the time. I get the odd burst of connectivity and then nothing.

I have now resorted to turning of 3g and going back to the old data connection (EVDO???) which while rather slow works fine all the time. I experience the same problem to and from work on the Beenliegh line. I can't really tell you what its like where I live in Parkinson as I am hooked up to the WiFi at home. I have only been working in the City for about 3 months and It seemed to work fine up until about 7-7 weeks ago and since then it has been totally unusable. Of course I get the usual run around when I call Vodafone.

Me: Explain the situation

Them: "Have you tried turning it off and on again??"

Me: Yes.. multiple times.

Them: Maybe you need to drop into the store so they can look at it.

Me: WTF?? I mean honestly?? Is that the best trouble shooting they can come up with?

/facepalm
29 Aug 2011 08:13:01 PM: pretty cool. Remember you PAID their LAST BILL - you ENDORSED their CRAP SERViCE.. ummm? Keep endorsing them and they will keep providing you with more of the same !
COMPLAIN TO THE T.I.O. - Tell VodaFark you're angry, pissed off, not paying your bill (don't make physical threats tho), and you're not taking this crap anymore, tell them you'll tell everybody you meet and come into contact with that Vodafone is NOT a phone company you should trust......

18955 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme Fail at 28 Jul 2011 12:40:45 PM
Unexplained Excess Data Usage = $2000 bill. Spoke to the 4th person at Vodafone - Mr Sagar (Supervisor Billing) who advised that the excess usage was due to updates being pushed out by Vodafone to my phone (without my approval / acceptance). Said that because the updates benefit me, I need to pay for the excess data usage.
With the TIO now. Has anyone else had this trouble?
28 Jul 2011 01:33:45 PM: yes, the manager said that their data were absolutely correct. Checked my invoice when its available, it seems that I started getting charged for data usage a few days before the "unexplained" excessive usage. Invoice items was wrong for one of the days I disputed.

Contacted TIO already and waiting for someone to contact me. (Also just received an email responding to my compliant 7 days ago. Replied the email and still heard nothing.)
28 Jul 2011 01:38:46 PM: Yeah sounds like my story. On the 13th, 23rd and 24th or this month, my phone somehow used 3.5 GB of data, on top of my 2 GB limit. I have been in touch with the TIO and now awaiting an outcome. I was told my Vodafone yesterday that it pust have been updates being pushed out by Vodafone for Apple, as the usage was starting in the early hours.
28 Jul 2011 03:02:39 PM: i changed from voda at the start of this year. I'm just so glad I did they just rip off their customers any way they can...
30 Jul 2011 10:38:28 PM: How can this happen? Apple always ask you before updating anything and the updates are usually done through the computer and not the phone. Plus you can ask them how and why and state that apple can only update your phone through the air if you were running ios 5 which isn't available to consumers yet, if they need proof take a screen shot of your itunes and if they try to blame you buy saying you downgraded your phone then state that apple doesn't allow their users to downgrade the firmware no matter what they do.
31 Jul 2011 09:41:50 AM: point is it *hasn't* happened.. the charges are bogus, i.e. Vodafail have randomly added large data charges to people's bills and some ppl happened to notice. Probably some sales manager within the company needs his bonus and to meet his target, so s/he devised a way of accomplishing that by adding charges in the hope that noone would notice. When you're overcharged you can spend the obligatory 20 hours on the phone on hold and speaking pigeon-English with some abhorrently-mannered people to try to get it fixed, or just pay it. Vodafail bank on people just giving up and paying - that's how they make their money. They arn't a company, they are a nation-wide scam. It blows my mind that the ACCC are so impotent that they cannot even stop the insidious organised crime syndicate that is Vodafail. The AFP should arrest Vodafone staff for fraud, because that's precisely what this whole thing is. A massive Vodafraud.

18954 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is No network coverage, calls dropping out at 28 Jul 2011 10:50:13 AM
I have 2 mobiles on a cap plan with Vodafone, the consistancy of coverage is terrible and has definately lost me business and affected my relationships with customers and business colleagues. Despite the coverage shown on the Vodafone website as adequate, it has been showing the message " no network availble" more and more. Yesterday, I was trying to talk to a customer and the line dropped out 5 times, I been constantly apologising for this useless service. I am fed up of wasting time contacting Vodafone, the response is obviously from an overseas call centre and I can be waiting from 10 mins to 40mins with several re-dials as the service drops out. When you talk to the person they are polite and seemingly helpful, some have excellent English some do not, they cannot do much to solve my issues except offer a partial credit on the bill and fill in a complaint form an tell you to hope the service improves. What I need is a working relaible service.
I stupidly moved from 3 to Vodaphone for similar issues only to realise later that they are one and the same incompetant mob, who charge money to people for services they cannot deliver.

18953 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Really bad! at 28 Jul 2011 09:48:57 AM
Last time I tried to cancel my plan in 2010 due to poor coverage I was offered a 'cheaper' plan and promises that the network would get better. It is now 9 months into my new 24th month plan, and the coverage is still very poor. Every day my line cuts out when I receive a call.

Now I've been told that I have to pay the 'minimum spend' on my plan per month x the number of months I have left, which basically means if I exit now I still have to pay the exact same amount of money as I would pay if I didn't cancel my plan. Making it a loss/loss situation.

18952 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Not that much at 28 Jul 2011 01:53:13 AM
Not that much really. You guys should try virginbroadband for 24 months. they made vodafone look like innocent little cheery cheeked kids.
Worst thing i have had with vodafone is waiting on a call. but again with vrigin they don't compare. i have phone and broadband with vodafone. and i have had mobile with them for more than 10 years now. internet only in the last 12 months. when i first got onto the phone i couldnt make a call inside the house, and outside i had to pick my standing point to make sure the call didn't drop out. today it's light years away from those sad days.. with my phone i am connected to the 850 network. and if this is fast i must say it's the same speed as always, i haven't noticed any improvement at all. also when it comes to my broadband, they sent me out a new 850 network modem so i could connect into the new faster wizz bang network. again i can't say it's any better. honestly it's worked fine in the past, and speed wise it's been pretty good. but when you're told this new network is the bees kness you really expect something to pop up and say "I'm amazingly better". If im one of a few that are on this new 850 network, and im very close to the tower it runs off. then i would expect something of an improvement.

Long story...
-Out of 3 contact was offered vodafone contact discounted over the phone and STOOPID me I took it. Phone suppose to arrive in 5 working days
-7 days no phone so I go into a vodafone store - THEY spend 40mins to THEIR OWN call centre to ask why b4 telling I would get a call in a couple of days.
-Call comes and they say there is no phone coming and could I go into a store to get one.
-20mins later in the store - sry we don't have that phone. Tried to get me a newer phone but remember that discount? no record of that and they can't reoffer it to me. I said fine CANCEL IT!
-I have since had several calls to make SURE it's cancelled as I have now gone to OPTUS as of todayish. I got a bill (apart from my 3 one) from vodafone for $0.00 I don't trust it's cancelled. Will update with more news.

With the service there is a 1 in 3 chance that my phone will cut out during and important phone call even when im standing in one spot. also i have been experiencing mms problems and some sms problems.

i like the infinite plan im on as i can make as many calls and sms but im not sure what i should do. do i confront vodafone, if so what can i request for this.
i would really appreciate your help,

thank you
Matt
27 Jul 2011 07:50:14 PM: Hi Matt, you'll have to speak with Vodafone to see if they can do anything to sort out the problem. If they can't then you have the right to ask for some compensation until they can fix it. If your phone only works half the time, why should you have to pay the full price?

There is more information on the 'how to complain' page about lodging a complaint with Vodafone and if necessary, the TIO. Best of luck!

18945 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is CRAP at 27 Jul 2011 11:19:20 AM
To begin, this isn't the first problem I've had with Vodafail, nor is it the first time I've posted on here.. I am currently on the $49 Cap, I first had billing problems a few months ago, in which i was overbilled $50, therefore my bill became $99, I went down to see them at their store and they explain where this extra usage was, I understood this and was happy to pay, and for a few months I had no billing issues, fastforward to my latest bill $120, I logged onto my vodaphone.com and looked at my bill (as the one i'm email has no usage info, just how much I owe, even though last time this happen I requested to have an itemised bill), On the website I was charged for items mid billing session, but not for the start and end of that time... Confused I rang their customer service centre and spoke to probably 6 different people who 'couldn't access my full bill' but i had 'most likely gone over' I explain what the bill said online and they then said they didn't know how to help me as they couldn't see it, and it would be best for me to go in store, then proceeded to hangup on me, mid sentence.. So 20mins later I was on my way to the store, once i got there, I waited another 40mins to be served, although people had just walked in and been seen straight away. I explained my issue to them and they couldn't access my bill, so i logged them onto my vodaphone.com under my name and showed them the issues, the person who helped me in store was relatively helpful and he called the customer centre and was transfer from everywhere to billing to cancellation to upgrades, but still no help. Eventually he called his manager who was 'out on lunch' and the manager told me that I had most likely gone over my cap, again i explain it and he said it was probably a glitch in the system and they would fix it on monday (I went in on a saturday), Wednesday that week i get a text message saying yes i had gone over my cap, and i would have to pay the full amount, but as a sign of goodwill they would credit my bill $60. Therefore I only had to pay an extra charge of $10.. No explanation of what i had gone over.. Am awaiting with bated breath to see what my next bill comes in under, hopefully I won't owe anything thanks to my 'credit'

Another annoyance, last night my partner got their bill, they are also with Vodafail, and under the $49 cap, the bill said it was for $560.. once again we logged onto vodaphone.com to see the bill, but according to that he is still under his cap and hasn't gone over, we rang but once again could get no answers, i am planned on heading down today to try and get this sorted for him and change carriers from vodafail.

what makes me laugh is everytime I call I am given the option to upgrade my phone and renew my contract as it is up on the 1/08.. YEAH RIGHT! hahaha

Hopefully that all made sense...

My HTC Legend is unable to pick up more than a bar of reception at my house. There are none at my work!!! I very rarely get a SMS and can never answer a call when I'm at work. I've called Vodafone and they actually admitted that 3 reception is better!!!! When I send a text message that is 4 sentences long it only sends half of the message occasionally and twice!!!!! Facebook never works and my Internet doesn't either - apart from if I'm looking at the Vodafone homepage which will charge me!!!! Going to a Vodafone shop only results in me being being told to ring the Vodafone customer service again!!! Do you think it's my phone or the reception???? I'm a little frustrated and need my phone due to health problems. I have had this phone since December last

Have a CJ Pre Paid wireless broadband account. Was drawn to this by the 365 day expiry. Live in regional rural WA and required the plan for when visiting Perth and/or Geraldton. Interesting that in Geraldton the reception is great. Constant 3G coverage and no drop outs. As for Perth, EPIC FAIL, only 2g/gprs available, slow as and getting slower. I am considering going over to Telstra who also have a 365 day expiry but sadly only offer half the data. Where we camp in Perth is only 150mtrs from a 3 tower and 2km from the Vodaphone tower on Hepburn Ave.

Got extra charge of $315 on internet usage over my phone that I never used. Current Vodafone network just cant even allow me to browse web site with my phone even I am located in Brisbane CBD. Complained to Vodafone's billing team, got me nowhere except offering me $60 in credit.

Talked to their technical support about unexplained data usage of internet but they told me it is all valid. Send emails to complain without any success. Finally I got to talk to a manager on duty, he claimed he understood my claim about how poor their network is performing but still think that I have used the download quota. (what the f***)

They constantly claims that their record is correct (if its correct why the heck am I complaining!!) I guess TIO is my next step.. wish me luck~

I have a contract with 3 which is due to expire in a few months. Recently a 3 rep called me , obviously to try get me to renew my contract !
I told him that I wasn't very happy with the coverage that I get...frequent drop-outs when talking from home in Sydney and no signal when I visit NSW regional country areas that I often visit. I had been a Vodafone customer for many years until about 2005 when I decided to make the change to 3 and got a new LG handset on a $29 monthly plan. Soon noticed that 3's coverage was worse than VF ! (in my experience)
Coming back to the salesperson's call ... I said I remember getting better coverage with VF so why now if the two companies are merged , don't I get better coverage ? Well its all down to the location of the cell transmitters etc. OK , so now the merger between 3 and VF has created one huge Telcom with 2 separate services ...wonderful !
The sales rep continued his patter in the most perfect Indo-English manner.
"Sir you are free to try out Vodafone again at NO COST " after a brief pause I was connected to Vodafone rep.
Just to cut this short .. It was unknown to me to be signed up for a free service meant I was registered on a business account!
A month later got an invoice for $89.00 .No service had been used ! I was furious , I never wanted this ! After many calls to VF they finally said they were cancelling the account.
It has taken me 'God knows' how many calls to VF to get this situation concluded.Something must be done to stop this predation by these anonymous giant corporations from creating such turmoil to ordinary people's lives.
In my case, I responded to what appeared to be a simple phonecall which has turned out to be the most frustrating invasion into my daily life.

How can this kind of treatment be endured by trusting members of the community?
This organization VF and Hutcheson are greedy thieves who prey on unsuspecting people. They are so mean that they have to "farm out" their labour to poor people in Indian call centres who have to struggle with their multi billion dollar disaster failures while their execs sip their cocktails far away.
Shame on you Vodafone, Shame on you Hutcheson, for a Communication Company you need to get some teaching about what communication really means.

18917 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is worst at 25 Jul 2011 02:28:09 PM
I am constantly experiencing call drop outs and delayed voice mails issues. Called 1555, they said that the network is fine in my locality, which is not, as there are still signal dropouts. Missing business calls is not something worthwhile. And they are not agreeing for a waive off cancellation fee on termination of contract as well. Now that Vodafone wants to investigate the issue. And if there is a problem I would need to return my phone to them on cancellation of contract without any fee. This sucks.... No one can miss their interview and business calls.
25 Jul 2011 02:33:46 PM: that's right.. job-seekers on Vodafone are doomed! no prospective employer calls more than twice, and if they leave a message on your voicemail and you don't reply in a few days they assume you found something else. Vodafail customers who have important calls to make/receive have no chance....

OK - if i even get a glimps of a tall building on my way to work in the city - reception dies. City is very patchy. WEstern Suburbs around Merrylands is woeful as well. Forget the train....no reception till i get to Granville.
More importantly, some of my calls are going straight to voicemail (happened just now) and i sometimes get voicemail late - sometimes as late as a few days (happened on Friday).
This is actually worse than the Hillsbus network. I mean at least when the bus eventually arrives, it takes you where you want to go. If it was vodafone it would be stopping every few kms.

18914 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is unbeleivably incompetent, epic fail at 25 Jul 2011 11:25:18 AM
I signed a contract in store changing my plan from $68 to a $45 infinite plan on the 05/04/2011. Shortly after this the vodafone store that I went to shut down and the information at the time was not properly processed. I have not been billed correctly for the period covering the 05/04/2011 to current.

I have tried resolving this a number of times (7 at last count) through the telephone complaint service. I also had to go into another store (04/06/2011) to get the new contract sent through via email (this should now be on file). I waited in store for over 45 minutes to get this processed.

Each time I ring vodafone I speak to a different person, and am often told to go back to the store to resolve the issue. The last call was the only one where I was given a reference number.

I am still being over charged, when I call the 1555 number all I get is someone telling me to pay an incorrect overdue amount, no one has responded to my email (5 working days now). I've signed a contract with this company, how can they just keep ignoring me like this?
25 Jul 2011 03:01:27 PM: I received a prompt reply from TIO, really relieved to know there is a way out of this straight forward issue that doesn't involve having to explain myself AGAIN to Voda 1555 staff.

18913 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is woeful at 25 Jul 2011 11:08:23 AM
Seriously tearing my hair out!

Live on the North Shore, work in the Inner West, travel through the CBD every day. Patchy coverage everywhere, missed calls because callers can't get through to me, text message alerts that come through hours after a voicemail has been left, signal strength constantly up and down, data service abysmal, paying 69 dollars a month for something I can't use. My partner and most of my contacts on Vodafone but it's embarrassing how many times I have dropped calls, have to make repeated attempts to call.

Six weeks ago, spoke to customer service, described (very diplomatically and politely I might add) all my issues, found them to be reasonably helpful... albeit it was two hours of my life on the phone to a call centre that i'll never get back. Got callbacks and had my phone reset, established that all the stated areas of Sydney had "network issues"... as a consolation, I was offered for $69 to be credited to my account for 3 months.

Reasonable I thought, although ordinarily I'd have no qualms about paying for something that does what its supposed to. Six weeks later, and two bills have been sent out to me, neither with any suggestion that this credit offer has been applied.

So I ring back again... guess what, no record that the conversation ever took place! Brilliant. So, another hour on the phone through various departments and "engineers" all going through the same charade of calling back, resetting, testing, postcode checks, blah blah blah...

Seriously, what's the best thing to do here? Apparently, this time they've requested the credit to my next bill, and on my explicit request, they made a note on my account that the conversation we'd had had taken place and the outcome stated. However, a discounted bill for the next month or two doesn't actually help me, it just eases the pain a little bit. I still have nearly 12 months left on my contract and the cost to buy my way out of it is over $600...

Help!
25 Jul 2011 02:00:14 PM: It sounds like you've been through Vodafone and they haven't been able to sort much out, the best thing to do is go to the TIO (details on the how to complain page). The TIO will let you dispute the bill and also file a complaint, they will then give vodafone 10 days to sort it out or face a fine. As soon as you go to the TIO, Vodafone gets a lot more helpful.

Connected to $39 per month ( HTC DESIRE HD $380 calls, 1.5G data) on 17 June 2011. First bill, got excess data charge totalling $829, plus they mentioned $260 to unblock my internet access after being blocked. Funny thing is I printed out my usage and all the way upto when they say I started to exceed my data, the sessions were $0.43, upto maybe $2.00 - this was when I first got the phone and was actually using it alot, then suddenly once I had exceeded my data there were $80 sessions, either while I was travelling for 2 hrs, or at work not using phone. I have just about everything turned off because of poor battery life with HTC Desire HD, I am well aware of data transfer as worked in IT for 7yrs, I use another wifi device at home so dont use data. Have been using mobile phones and internet for bout 20 years, so know how much data I use. Three promised phone calls not recieved. Have contacted TIO awaiting follow up
25 Jul 2011 09:09:56 AM: Could you please post update as I have similar problem. Also have HTC Desire - am being billed extra data usage which I am quite certain I did not download (also at odd times & being connected for 6-7 hours) - also did not have automatic updates, P2P, VoIP etc. So would be interested to hear about your outcome.

hi, i went from pre pay to a $29 plan with a new nexus s with 200mg of data, 1st 2 months i dont go close to useing the data as i have wi fi at home, then last wekend i am checking my online bill and i see that i have "used" over $1200 worth of data over the weekend ,mostly during when i am alseep,no way have i downloaded anything and the few apps i have are the same i have had for the 3 months, vodafail say they cant query it till the bill is processed, then i get a txt saying to pay $600 or my service will get cancelled,i say no to that and tell them i cant do anything till you bill me as what they have said to me before hand, now they decide to investigate !!! i live in melton and even from vodafails website it say's that there is very poor data coverage here,so i dont even think i could download the amount they said i did, also according to there billing the times i am getting billed for data actually overlaped each other so it has to be a vodafone problem, yet i say again..
25 Jul 2011 09:03:42 AM: I have excatly the same experience as you. Vodafone said they will not investigate until bill is processed - so I am still waiting. Like you I am certain I did not download the amount of data they said. Would you please post further updates - whether you were able to resolve the issue with vodafone & in what manner.

18905 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Terrible at 24 Jul 2011 05:59:12 PM
I live only 15 minutes from the Brisbane CBD. My phone has consistantly 4 to 5 bars of reception. Yet everytime I go to check emails it takes a good hour to successfully download. It's always "could not connect to server", "server was reset", "check your log in".

On the bus it's embarassing. I can barely read 2 pages downloaded in 30 minutes of peak hour commute. I press a page and stare at a failure to download. I would love to use my download quota of 1 gig per month. It's just not possible.

Recently I went into a store to complain, and see about a solution. They said a new SIM card would do it. Ha! Classic get the problem out of the store solution. Alas I could not talk loud enough in hope potential customers would walk away before getting contracted to pain.

Lucky for me I'm soon off contract.

We all know about the horrendous network coverage provided by vodafail. I've called them more than 3 times this year to complain and everytime I spend 20mins+ where they assure my their FAIL would be fixed soon. So I called them last week to end my contract, they wanted me to participate in an investigation to test my coverage which according to the rep "may likely not fix my problem" but is required before a contract is terminated. I refused and referred matter to TIO.

Vodafail decided to charge me $500 in 1 day for apparent excess usage charges and calling 1900 numbers. I don't know any 1900 numbers and I got no idea how I could use $500 in one day of checking emails and Facebook. Tried to cancel my service and they refused to do it. Saying they can only offer me a reducement in the charges. So over their crappy service and uncaring customer support

These guys (Vodafone) have got some serious technical issues that don't appear close to being resolved. My problem is similar to the uni student who also posted today. My USB dongle worked fine initially, but steadily got worse and worse, jumping all over the place - 3G, EDGE, HSUPA, HSD. They replaced it, to little avail. Now, it takes forever to open a web page, if it gets there at all. If I connect to a WiFi or different network, WOW,it's like using a different computer - a stable, FAST connection that lets me do whatever I like for as long as I like. If Vodafone spent as much money on their current loyal customers as they do on chasing new ones, opening new stores and sponsoring sporting events, we wouldn't be having these problems. I'm ready to go!
24 Jul 2011 01:58:46 PM: Hey I'm the Uni student here, I have the same problem ever since it switches from 3G to hsupa at will... It's so frustrating. I'm leaving after this month but don't know where to go... Anything other than this crap should suffice. I'm over it and I'm at risk of failing my uni subject because I wait and hope that one day the thing will work... One day it does, one day it doesn't.... It's as bad as Melbourne weather, it's actually worse!
24 Jul 2011 02:56:18 PM: If you are not on a contract then it would be worth trying one of the other carriers on prepaid for a couple weeks. If you are on a contract then you might be able to get out without charge as they aren't providing the service you signed up for.

18900 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Massive fail! Feeling homicidal!!! at 24 Jul 2011 10:43:52 AM
I'm a student studying part time through open universities. I've had a USB dongle broadband stick which worked fine tge first few months of use, then it started switching to hsdpa and speeds have dropped to worse than dial up. I took the USB dongle to a Vodafone store and expressed dissatisfaction, they gave me a pocket wifi device, it's been 4 weeks with this device and no better. I'm going to fail university because I rely heavily on a Internet connection for study material and lectures but I'm unable to download this material! I am so bloody furious I almost feel homicidal, I've smashed my iPhone in frustration and almost punched a hole in My 27inch iMac screen. I called Vodafone customer service and told them how dissatisfied I was and all they could offer me was my next bill waived.... Thanks guys, so you should fucking waive it, because I can't bloody use it anyway!
Why on earth are we paying for a service we aren't getting, I pay my bill on time every time... I'm sticking to my agreement in the contract... Vodafone isn't... Simple!
28 Jul 2011 11:10:16 PM: actually vodafone is .... if you read the terms and conditions of any contract or payg they state that they cannot garentee 100% full signal at all times as there could be site problems due to weather, road works or general tech problems at the site your connected to. i suggest you read the terms and cos next time before signing up to anything

Have had an iPhone 4 from Vodafone for the past 9 months. Phone continually loses signal, calls drop out, can't receive calls (goes straight to voicemail 80% of the time), data is extremely slow if it works at all. Contacted them several times, first few times they confirmed there was a weak signal (although I am in the heart of Adelaide) and it should improve soon. Now they are telling me that there is no problem, their investigation team are reporting there are no faults in my area and I should have perfect reception.... but I don't! The reception just keeps getting worse and worse. It can't be the phone, as I used it in Sydney and Melbourne recently and had perfect 5 bar reception the whole time I was away. what the hell do I do now???? I can't afford $60 per month for a phone I can't use!

18893 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is bad at 23 Jul 2011 08:32:26 PM
I sent my wife a message at 11:30am yesterday, 33 hours later she has still not received it (we are both with Vodafone). This is a common occurrence and we have to rely on either a confirmation sms or a phone call if it is important - I expect this places a further burden on the service! We used to just assume that the message would get through instantly.

I'm not complaining to Vodafone directly because I know there will be no benefit for me. I have no desire to be put through an automated system, placed on hold and eventually connected to an operator who apologizes and tells me it will get better. It seems easier just to wait for the contract to run out and find a new provider.

18892 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is huuuge fail at 23 Jul 2011 07:22:14 PM
I've had terrible reception and data coverage since I signed up with Vodafone back in December 2010. I finally had enough so I called to complain and they said I live in an area with bad coverage but that they would be upgrading it in the next quarter. Gee thanks! I had to of course call them on my husband's phone because mine dropped out while I was trying to ring them.

They offered $20 off this month's bill (I usually pay $49 a month) and 25% off the next 3 months. Although I can appreciate the gesture I've just had enough and want something that works.
So I lodged a complaint through their website asking if I can cancel my contract without paying early exit fees. Their automatic reply system must have picked up these words in my complaint because I immediately received a generic automated reply with info on how to cancel my contract - by paying early exit fees!
The status of my complaint was listed as SOLVED.

I don't think so!

I called again and they had absolutely NO record of this written complaint. So I had to explain myself for the 3rd time. I was offered to be transferred to the 3 network because "it seems that it gives better coverage in my area". It seems? I again asked for my contract to be terminated but they wouldn't budge. I told them I would go to the TIO and they said "that's fine, you can do that but we can't cancel your contract".

So I have lodged a complaint with the TIO and keeping all fingers crossed that I can get out of this mess.

I have huge problems with making calls which is what annoys me the most. For about 2 days I couldn't make any calls whatsoever. The phone wouldn't even dial the number. HTC Legend is a nice phone but it's driving me insane not being able to use it properly. Don't even get me started on data and MMS....

29 Jul 2011 10:48:05 AM: I got a call yesterday (funny that my phone didn't even ring because of their cr@p reception, it just went straight to vocemail!).
It was from the vodafail resolutions team who advised me that they will be cancelling my contract and waiving the exit fees woo hoo! of course, they didn't leave a contact phone number so i can call them back. i tried calling the 1300365506 resolutions team number but of course you have to leave a message...i just want confirmation before i port over to optus.

nevertheless - success!

18890 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is absolutely useless at 23 Jul 2011 05:40:22 PM
in mid 2010 i contracted with Vodafone for USB wireless broadband. Their retailer CJ assured me we had great coverage in our area. What a complete fabrication of the truth. By January 2011 things worsened with reception / connectivity and downloads speeds that were all useless. I was a train wreck after countless attempts to their offshore techspurts, and by March 2011 i was asking, no demanding my money back. which was just purely ignored. We had 3 services, 2 USB wireless broadband sticks and one special combo deal telephone, which was also suffering from zero reception at home.
Vodafones response "after investigation" was that the mobile telephone was working, however this only happened odafone rang while we were out of our home area. What a joke. Now they have a debt collector onto us and i have handed it over to my solicitor to take action on to recover my money and damages

This is what Vodafone mobile broadband is. Over time, months and months this builds. It is the constant waiting of a minute to download a page, the e-mail you just typed out not being sent, the can not connect page that comes up time and time again, the loading signal going around while you upload by bps. So far up-grades have made NO diff.
