Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

19732 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is BIG at 20 Oct 2011 04:16:06 PM
I preordered the Iphone 4s with VF after my contract with 3 expired. I am now told by Vf that they dont actually have any stock and will complete the order when they have stock. My issue is that how is it a preorder when they dont have any stock to sell. I get locked into an order when I can just walk up to the Telstra shop and get a mobile from then on the spot. I've tried calling them a few times from a prepaid VF number and failed to complete a conversation on 4 occasions coz their annoying sytem hung up on me and there were some instances where the call dropped out

19729 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible at 20 Oct 2011 10:01:45 AM
Order an iPhone online, but never got a status update. Customer service didn't know either, so I cancelled my order, for which I received a text. I then went to a store to place a new order, and today I received two handsets. I have been on the phone for 1 hour trying to sort this out, but have been transferred to 5 different departments, none apparently having any sort of authority for any actions.

19727 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poorest Service ever at 20 Oct 2011 07:04:15 AM
I limit the amount of calls I make as it continually drops out....So I bought two cans and some string...its makes for a better call connection. The reception for internet is beyond ridiculous....i think its still searching for the server....just by accident it should have found it by now. I went into the store the other day too discuss an upgrade to the new Iphone 4s but because I have 11 months ( in vodafone terms a decade) left on my contract I would have to pay $644 to finish the contract. I nearly fell of the seat...do the customer service people understand what we are experiencing....I bet there contracts for phones are with Telstra.
20 Oct 2011 08:44:05 AM: They know exactly what their customers are experiencing but they are frausters and don't do anything about it. Put a form in here: https://www.tio.com.au/making-a-complaint/submit-a-complaint

that will hopefully get you out without any further money to pay.
Goodluck!

19725 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Conniving and dishonest at 19 Oct 2011 11:15:53 PM
I have been with Vodafone for over 6 years. My mother, brother and father are also with Vodafone. None of us had experienced any problems with them to date and they were offering plans with the new iphone 4s that suited me. I went in today and requested the iphone on the $59 a month CAP plan (with $0 to pay for the phone). Unfortunately I am someone who is easily persuaded by salespeople, it's just my nature, so i always do my research first so I know what to get and don't get ripped off. The salesman today - and what a salesman he was - gave me every reason under the sun why I should go with their new INFINITE plan as opposed to the CAP plan, telling me the CAP plan is more for overseas calls while the infinite plan is better for local calls etc. Tried to sell me the most expensive one and i flatly refused. Eventually he had me agreeing to the $45 INFINITE plan with an extra $17 for the phone. All up not much difference to the $59 CAP. But then the extra charges come in, an extra $4 a month for another 700MB of data since it only comes with 500MB (as opposed to the CAP that has 2GB!) and then the insurance was offered as well. I was hesitant and he said don't worry all this has a 14 day cooling off period. To which I asked if that also meant changing the plan and he said of course, I could change the plan with Vodafone Customer Service. After thinking it over I decided I had been talked into something I didn't want and called customer service to change to the $59 CAP. He was very helpful and changed the plan and deleted the extra $4 I had bundled on for extra data and at the end of the conversation I also confirmed that the $17 for the phone (as part of the INFINITE plan) had been deleted to which he responded NO, I still had to pay the $17 as that was an agreement with the store. How can it be since every Vodafone store and online offer the same thing! I called the store and was told the following:
"The $17 is not reversible. Once I have signed up for the contract, the handset charges will be the same no matter what plan I change to"
I then called Vodafone customer complaints and told the lady the situation. I was then on hold and ten minutes later she returned to say there is nothing she can do about it, she has spoken to her manager and he said there is nothing customer serviced can do, I will have to enquire with the store. I told her that was not good enough and requested to speak to the manager. I was put through to the Accounts Manager and he still claimed that he could do nothing. I told him that was unacceptable and eventually he said he could offer me a $5 per month credit. This would mean that I am paying $59 a month for the CAP plan - which should include the handset for $0 plus an extra $17 that they claim I cannot get out of. With the $5 credit I am giving Vodafone $12 for absolutely nothing! Not Acceptable. I told the Accounts Manager that this result was not sufficient and that I will be inquiring with the ACCC to which he said "fine go ahead" and hung up!!
I have never experienced anything like this in my life. Firstly from the Salesman (who is actually the MANAGER of that store - Bondi Junction Westfield) - who didn't exactly lie but certainly did not give me all the information and the truth. Secondly why does Vodafone have a complaints department if they don't actually try and solve those complaints. If the account manager could credit me $5 he surely could credit me $17!
Is there anything I can do with this? It just seems like a complete rip off and I am now stuck with paying alot more than I wanted to for the next 24 months - money I can't really afford to just throw away like this...

19722 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Mobile internet fail!! Takes forever to load internet / emails at 19 Oct 2011 03:13:06 PM
I can't for the life of me get mobile internet in the city. Especially at lunchtime when I need to do my critical web-surfing / words with friends moves :P Seriously, it's incredibly annoying, as soon as I hit the city everything (email, internet) just seems to time out forever (and I live in the Northern Beaches where Voda's mobile internet seems to be much better - you'd think it'd be the other way round). Running iPhone 4. So lame.

19721 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is BAD at 19 Oct 2011 02:00:05 PM
Call dropouts constanlty... soon as I dial the number, drop out, as soon as someone answers, drop out .... mid conversation, drop out. So frustrating, I've had to use the landline, which is going to be quite pricey this quarter. All this started when I received a message to say upgrades were being done, more like downgrades. Trying to get on to customer service is a joke, there is none.

I redeemed my bonus bank credit and paid the $89 difference to get a prepaid samsung galaxy fit. They were out of stock and didnt bother letting me know.
When I contacted them they reversed the Bonus bank credit but not the $89 which i paid with credit card. When I asked... they said they want the receipt of payment... which I never received in the first place.

19715 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is it is getting worse and worse at 19 Oct 2011 03:39:31 AM
No need to mention how bad the Vodafone service has became, but here is a different story:
On my last day of billing period (as usual) I checked my credit balance after 5+ hours from my last call, just to know how much left of my credit to use and make some international call of some family members.
It told me that there are $128 out of $500 left for me
ten I made some international calls within this limit; the bill came later with extra $91 for extra international calls.
Vodafone support told me "you have made these calls, and our system takes up to 48 hours to update your credit, and you need to be careful next time", I said how can I be careful; should I keep record of my calls over a month period and sum them just to know what is left !!
or should I be careful by not using the reported remaining amount (%25 of $500) and lose them just to be safe!!!
The most interesting thing, the support call manager told me that I shouldn't make any calls 48 hours before using the remaining credit, just to be sure of the actual credit.

Finally I asked to talk to their highest manager in Australia no India, but she said only India person is available and he can call me later.
I'm sick of that and really need to get out of that contract ASAP (14 months left), but how?

I need to write to vodaphone to get a copy of the reciept for my handset purchase. It was only purchased four months ago but I have had a flood and lost my paperwork. rang fair trading and the ombudsman and they said that within this timeframe and as I was still paying for the phone and it has a unique ime number id they should be able to provide a copy of this to me. There is no way I want to try and make this request over the phone to the call centre - does anyone have a postal address that I can write too to make a formal request? i expect voda will make this very hard for me.

19708 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is DATA is deplorable at 18 Oct 2011 06:13:28 PM
The internet data is ok during the day for about 2 hours 11am till 2pm in the northern beaches deewhy sydney nsw area .I have a great HTC desire HD but cannot get simple pages or tehter to a small laptop (this page barley loaded)7:00PM deewhy.I am really getting tired of paying a post pay premium and not getting the service I am deserved.I am really thinking I would like to put the Voda failed USB pre pay stick in the cupboard and looking into Telstra Turbo and paying their premium but I know I will get blistering data speed for the home computers and just put up with the rubbish data on my very cool internet capable handset.I believe Voda is busy upgrading but they still dont get that the customer is all ways right and they need to employ more contractors to get the metropolitan areas up to scratch first ,makes sense !Why does Deewhy have a low spot till next year and other close suburbs have the good stuff and Deewhy has a massive population in comparison to any other beach suburb.I was out a Kograh for a few hours and data was amazing!and got home and really bad again.Vodafone (please hurry up for Deewhy >take visit some time it deserves good data flow. The calls side of things is fine ,I dont get drops or bad hook ups no issues there.
20 Oct 2011 07:42:25 PM: Nothing wrong with their network 3G or newer 850MHz Hi Speed. It's their BLOODY Internet Gateway - too few ports - BIG bloody bottleneck - They need to talk to THEIR ISP to increase the bandwith (i.e. MORE bloody ports). Little Indians in their Indial call centre blamed network upgrading - it is NOT network, it is Internet Gateway. VODAPEOPLE, PLEASE GET IT CORRECTED!!!!!!!!

The general mess with voda aside, I have a consumer-rights-related question. The Samsung Galaxy S II on $45 cap plan also had $15 extra monthly charge. I signed up for it. Within a month that $15 extra gradually went to 0. So, it's the SAME plan with price changes.

Am I entitled for price adjustments for the remaining billing periods?

(I know that in Europe and USA I would be able to even have a rebate percentage for past billing periods, the remaining billing periods would be adjusted without questioning upon the very first request.)

Thanks in advance for the advice.
16 Oct 2011 02:05:26 PM: You'd have to speak with Vodafone and see what their response is. Generally when you purchase a plan/phone, the telco buys the phone for a fixed price and then spreads the cost out over 24 months. Chances are they removed the handset charge because the price they were buying the Galaxy SII for was reduced significantly as well (and they passed those savings on to new customers).

That said it did happen within less than a month and that's pretty unlucky. Usually companies have a month or longer of grace period in the event of price drops. So probably just give them a call and explain how you just purchased it and see what they say (no harm in trying). Goodluck!

19694 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is VERY VERY VERY at 16 Oct 2011 12:28:14 AM
First of all I have ordered a black iPhone 4S, and they shipped me with a white one. Wasted half a day trying to sort thing out(80% on hold waiting, with 90% drop offs after waiting for 30 mins+!).

Then they cannot activate my sim, after 5 -6 fail transfer calls to their Activation department (which all dropped off after waiting more than 20 mins!), its finally activated. BUT THEN.... they activated on the wrong account and I have to drive to the local store, get someone to call them up (because by this stage I could not possible go through their Indian customer service any longer).

NOW after everything is finally sorted (took 2 days), there is NO RECEPTION! I live in Lidcombe, and on my Telstra iPad it shows FULL bar, but crappy vodafail only has 1 or even no bar. I even try to call my phone, and 40% of the time it wouldn't even get through and went straight to voicemail.

So regret of taking on vodafail because its 20 bucks cheaper than Telstra. For those thinking about signing up with vodafail... DO NOT DO IT! AS IT CAUSES MORE GRIEF THAN IT SHOULD. I would rather pay a slightly more premium price and get PERFECT reception and coverage.

19653 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is shooting themselves in the foot at 11 Oct 2011 12:48:32 PM
I have just signed with Vodaphone, SIM only. I had read all the bad press and decided that too many family members were with vodaphone not too sign up in the short term for the cheapest plan (I now have to pay for a phone for the first time in years!!) I went through the online selection as I was going to port my number from another company as well and as it was only going to be a few days max would be faster than the nearest shop on the weekend.
My fun started after setting up on the 30th of Sept and then making enquiries on the 4th as to when I would receive the SIM. The "status" showed an update on the 1st Oct and nothing since. I wanted to knw what was up. The helpdesk were inept. As I did not have an account setup all they could say was there are notes in their system but I should get it soon. When I quizzed them on the statement in the online form that says "When should I expect delivery (1-2 days standard)" they said it can take about 10 days for the approval process to be done??? To which I "played" with them and pushed my point in many different ways to get them to show me they knew what good customer service is (did they bend over backwards? No way!!). I did this over 2 days and on the second day they told me there was a problem with the expiry date on the ccard I gave them so I gave them the details again. I thought about it and it was then a Friday i thought I would go to my nearest shop on the w/e. I rang them back again and asked thyem to cxl my request. Oddly enough, 3 hours later my ccard company rang me and said there was a security breach on my card where someone had billed $5 to my card and that they had a few of those that day and said I had to cut up my card!!! - Coincidence after cancelling my order!!!
SO, i went down to the shop on Sat, was helped brilliantly in store and got everything signed up correctly and was told 3-4 hrs for the number to be ported. ....Monday, still was on the old network and then got a txt from them asking me to ring them, seems the wrong (previous telco) account was entered and they had to redo it again. 2 hrs later it was all finally done.

Now I am a patient person as it did not fuss me as I had a working phone. i would have killed someone if i was dependent on a phone for business and it was the only one! But as I tried to stress to the staff, "you have set my expectations by giving me access to details of when I should expect things to be happening. Either remove the expectation or amend but most importantly be aware of what your company exposes to me regarding what the expectations are"!!! - this they did not understand.
So, I am looking at their performance over the next couple of months with regards to the "service" and whilst I work out what my usage will be and if they are squeky clean, 6 accounts stay with them, if not, I will do everything to convince my family to move to another carrier.

19644 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Massive Fail at 10 Oct 2011 10:06:50 PM
Following a handset upgrade in August I was forceably transferred from the 3 network (where I was quite happy with the network coverage) to the Vodafone network & that's where the problems began.
Dropped calls (which I'd never experienced before ) and black holes in data coverage, were the main complaints along with being unable to connect anytime I went into a crowded area (such as a football game).
Anyway, after 2 verbal & 4 written complaints to Vodafail where they didn't want to know about it & only at the end did they even offer a 50% discount for 3 months off my plan (big deal) I took the matter up with the TIO (thanks to the advice from this website!).
Thankfully adding the written complaints in left Vodafail with little to stand on, they initially offered 50% off for 3 months then release if I still wasn't happy, but one more push had them releasing me immiedately.
Quite the mess, but in the end it's worked out & I have the advice on this site to thank for it because I went about it the right way. Suggest if ur in the same boat, you do likewise.

I got a three thousand dollar phone bill from vodafone. They said if I added an additional phone and internet account to my initial account as a packaged deal, I'd never pay over $150 dollars a month. On the second phone I was getting charged 50, 70 a 100 dollars a phone call. They lied and I'm stuck with the bill. I don't know what to do. I'm sick to my stomach.

As you have contacted Vodafail, the next step is the TIO. They will advise VF to put the disputed amount onto hold until a full investigation is carried out by VF concerning the amounts.

10 Oct 2011 01:17:43 PM: Thank you. Was on the phone with Vodafone for three hours today. I have been a loyal customer for two years, with bills ranging from $300-$500 dollars, and paid loyally. I took an offer from them to never pay over $150 dollars if I got a second mobile line and internet dongle. Some mistake occurred where I incurred $1000 dollars of usage in 48 hours, so they offered to investigate. They never responded so I continued using the other lines while they investigated. A little over three weeks later the $1,000 turned into $3000!! They should have repsonded, They should have said don't use your other services until we investigate. They should have checked my loyalty for over two years, and noted that I don't generate that kind of usage. I called TIO. I just want my old service back. I wish I'd never taken they're offer to reduce my bills per month, under the guise of "you are a loyal customer so you get this offer." I feel so stupid for not listening to my gut because I thought it sounds too good to be true!

I was overseas initiated roaming before I went and twice it did not work. First time was for 2 weeks in Bali. This time I was in Spain I was robbed as soon as I arrived and needed my phone to call police and I also have an elderly Grandmother. Of course as usual phone did not work at all. I had to call Vodafone at my own expense several times to get the issue resolved. Many times their so called 24 hour help desk was closed! Infuriating. I finally got it working then went to Netherlands and once again it would not work then went to Singapore same thing. Got home and had to call them as no service even in Australia! Unbelievable!

I just wanted to check my prepaid usage, on their website. I used my usual logon and was told that because I had "failed to enter the correct answer to your secret question 3 times" I would be locked out for 24 hours and that I should ring customer "service" (as if they'd know what that meant) on 1 300 30 10 30 . So I rang that number and got a recorded voice telling me that would not be available until 7.00 a.m. tomorrow. Marvelous service especially seeing as how it didn't even give me ONE chance to read let alone answer my secret question! Vodafails again! Ernie (PERSONAL DETAILS REMOVE)

19612 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Still no Coverage at 7 Oct 2011 05:19:19 PM
ok So for some months last year on my blackberry storm I had no coverage. No internet. Call drop outs. The likes.

Have recently upgraded to a Galaxy S2 which i think is an awesome phone. Super fast until you try and access the internet.

Just got an email from Vodaf#$ked the other day saying that all the towers in my area had now been upgraded and i should be getting great indoor and outdoor coverage. On top of this I have a galaxy S2 handset which now also works on their superior 850 network.

So when my phone still wasnt loading internet including facebook mobile i cracked the shits and downloaded a speed tester.

My download speeds were between 122kbps and 377kbps.
Total fail when they say i should be getting speeds up to 3.0MBps.

what is the point of having smart phones when you have vodafone. I travel in train from city on north shore line. I can't speak continuously for 5 mins. Cannot use data, there will be no connection or only 2g and it is very very very slow. I was trying to order a pizza online while travelling in train (north sydney), but ended up going to pizza shop in hornsby and ordering in person. The whole journey from north sydney to hornsy, I struggled to order a pizza over this vodafone's stupid 3G connection....... I want my money refunded....no use of having 1g data and free voice calls. but here's the best bit - they claim they 'can't' tell me what I've downloaded because it breaches privacy acts. So they can just claim whatever they want, and get away with it!

19566 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is worst of the worst at 3 Oct 2011 10:45:07 AM
My nightmare started two years ago when I started my two years $59/month iPhone contract. First, I was told I can use my $350/month credit to make any calls including international calls, I wouldn't sign up this contract if I knew international calls are not included because I called overseas quite often. Then the first month,I was charged almost $170 more for the international calls I made while I still have hundreds of credit remaining, and I called their customer service, they said international calls are not included in the $350 credit. Then I went overseas, and sent 1 text email, vodafone charged me $83 and wouldn't explain how the amount is calculated. I didn't receive a bar of signal in my office in the city, and my phone was cut off shortly after it's connected 80% of the time. I feel the nightmare would be over when I called in to cancel the service last month, but I was wrong, vodafone haunted me again. I lost the number I was using for years because vadafone said once I cancel the service with them, my number cannot be transferred to another mobile provider, and even I re-open my account with vodafone I cannot keep my old number anymore. The only thing that I am glad now is that I'll never ever deal with vodafone anymore, the worst of the worst companies ever!!! Bad coverage, bad sales, bad customer service.

Every now and then (that is within one week) I tried to call certain people on my phone and I always have a Connection error!! Full reception and all but it just wouldn't connect. I thought they said they are upgrading their service or something?
3 Oct 2011 02:57:04 PM: They are gradually replacing most of their 3G network however it will take some time before they complete it. You can check if they are upgrading your area on their website: http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/aboutvodafone/network/index.htm?pid=v:hme::network:her:network-blog--txt-cta

If you are still having trouble in an area they've already upgraded then it's best to give them a call and let them know.

I have been with voda for 12 years, but for the past year I could never get reception in my own house in the Liverpool area. They would have full bars and when i tried calling myself with the landline it would say my phone was off and everytime i went out i would have to drive maybe 5 mins from the area and get bombarded by text messages that was sent to me while i was at home. And the data I never bothered with that at home just used wifi used it on commute and at work in wynyard. I was meaning to change my plan but all the people I call are on vodafone and i can call them for free, cant really beat that deal.

However, I got a new phone and when i put my sim in it said H+ instead of 3g. It has always had full reception but i haven't travelled out of sydney to know if it works everywhere. I haven't had a call drop out once or any problems with reception. The data is fast and there is absolutely no lag on SMSing. The internet speed is faster than Optus data using the same phone. So I guess the year of shit reception meant they were really fixing the lines. Maybe it was a case of Vodafail and Iphail4.
So my suggestion is everybody if you aren't getting a 4G phone, Change networks but if you are you shouldn't have any vodafails anymore!

Once again I am frustrated with good old "vodafone" Since my last coverage problem earlier this month, the same thing has occurred again!! No reception in my area on 3G or GSM. I tried to enter my vodafone account online but AGAIN..like last time, my name and password failed. It said "incorrect password" I clicked "forgotten password" to receive a new password. I received that new password on my mobile, entered it online...and what do you know. The new password also failed. Now because I have made 3 attempt to login, my mobile is now locked for 24HOURS!!!!!!! What utter rubbish, as soon as this problem is solved I am going to dump vodafone after 12 agonising years with coverage failures. 19542 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Frauding Me at 29 Sep 2011 09:36:56 AM
You see the mess is not my mess rather Vodafones mess that they want me to rectify.
I have only ever had pre paid(never have i ever entered into any plan). But Vodafone discovered that they were a victim of fraud and so they decided to drop a $3,500 bill into my prepaid information that they were provided with when I had my pre paid sim card activated.
They have accused me of entering into a plan...of course this was all sent to a debt collector.
I spent an entire week on the phone trying to rectify this mess that they decided to place on my shoulders. Is all I got was this " I have to send them(via fax) photo i.d.plus 2 other forms of id fill out a stat dec,all of this was to be faxed to a number that had no adress details ...only a post office box no.
I then decided that this matter was one for the police, the police were satisfied that Vodafone have made an error.
Let me put you more in the picture,I had a copy of this phone bill plan emaiedl to me,this bill had my name and someone elses adress on it.I looked in the phone book to see if there was someone of the same surname as mine at that adress ...bingo problem solved (so i thought) there was someone at that adress with my surname ..different first name.I brought this to Vodafones attention and they still want to persue me for this money.
I have provided vodafone with the event no the police provided me with and still they don't leave me alone.Go figure..why is this mob after me,why do they continue to refer this account as my account and who decided to drop this unpaid bill into my pre - paid information that they have on me.Why has Vodafone refused to meet with me...to discuss this face to face..that's because they only have a PO BOX address.I have actually washed my hands of the matter.
29 Sep 2011 09:55:31 AM: I am 19542,I forgot to mention that i bought my phone outright and unlocked, thank goodness because i am now trying out the Woolworths pre paid and optus have reassured me that because I had been with them previously for 6 years(not on a plan either) that this behaviour from vodafone will not happen with them.I have now no credit on vodafone and am not putting any on it.
29 Sep 2011 04:35:14 PM: Wow this sounds really bad. It's good that you got the police involved. Have you lodged a complaint with the TIO as well? It sounds like Vodafone isn't interested in sorting this out so the TIO will be able to fine them until they take it seriously. More info is on the 'how to complain' page.

26 Sep 2011 01:08:10 PM: Me again. I travel between Sydney and Canberra often. My 3 phone does not have connection at all all the way from Sydney <-> Canberra. In Both Sydney and Canberra, Wifi wirelee broadband does not have reception, I can only use it to open internet page until late night after 11pm. "Not happy! Jan"
26 Sep 2011 01:27:26 PM: "do you have any recommendation" - Yes.

Firstly, regarding the bills for services Vodafail haven't provided: put a complaint in here(https://www.tio.com.au/making-a-complaint/submit-a-complaint), explain yourself, and demand full repayment for all the money you have paid since September last year onwards and full waiver of outstanding bills. (I got a refund on everything I paid for around 8 months - over $1,000 total - simply because I argued that the services I had received did not work. they argued that I'd still managed to use all the data I had received, but I argued that using the internet at the very slow speeds was NOT the service I had paid for, so even though I had used ALL the data I have purchased they still had to give me a full refund because usage was so restricted because of the limitations on capacity).

Secondly, regarding a new mobile plan, Telstra have the best coverage (but not the best prices). Optus have moderate coverage. TPG offer good monthly plans and INCLUDE 13/1300/1800 numbers. Amaysim also offer good monthly plans BUT DO NOT INCLUDE 13/1300/1800 numbers.

Hi There

I have not had network coverage for 2 days now (Sat 24th Sept and Sun 25th Sept). I have looked at vodafone website via your link to see if there is any upgrade in our area but there doesn't appear to be.

As you can imagine the massive inconvenience this is to me especially as my phone is my only means of contact as we have no landline.. plus, I have a little 15 month old boy and fear that if i need to make an important call for help to loved ones I cant.

We live Brooklet NSW which is 15 mins from Byron Bay.. never really the best place for Vodafone reception with odd days here and there with this same issue of no coverage, but still I am mostly able to pick up reception in a few key spots around the house.

Not sure what I can do. Ideally I would like to get out of my plan which i have about 6 months left to go. I feel I should be able to break my contract because they are not keeping up to their end of the deal.

What do you think?

Kelly
26 Sep 2011 11:38:17 AM: Hi Kelly,

If you are still in your contract you should make a complaint to Vodafone directly and let them know you want to leave your contract. If they don't let you or say that you have to pay an exit fee then you can complaint to the TIO (details on the how to complain page). The TIO will then have someone else from Vodafone contact you within 10 days with a better solution. Goodluck!

I have 3 mobile broadband for just over 2years now.
Its been great, fast service, fast downloads etc i couldnt find a fault at all, but literally in the past 4 week, the service has dropped, there is signal but pages wont load, i find myself pulling the modem out and putting it back in (restarting basically) for it to only work for another hour and the same thing all over again.
From what i hear, voda is in its final stages for taking over 3.
Im on the month to month basis, so once uni is finished, so will my need of the internet.
another thing, my sister has the same modem / service as me, she received a email from 3 / vodafone saying here is an additional 5gb free per month (Her broadband is soooooo slow!! it took over 5minutes to play a 30sec youtube video)
I didnt get that email!
I am a loyal customer, paying bills as soon as i get the email, every month i had excessive charges, i didnt complain as i thought, fair enough i need to download text for uni, but please, taking advantage of a student is not fair especially if i was not at home for 3weeks and i still got overcharged for something i didnt use.
Enjoy your last 2 months of theft vodafone!!
ill cancel both my and my sisters internet service's soon.

19504 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is worse than '3' at 22 Sep 2011 04:31:48 PM
Since being convinced by the '3' Priority Care team that the Vodafone network is far superior and transferring over, I've had no-end of network issues incl. dropped calls (particularly when on the move), poor/non-existent reception where the phone won't even ring, unable to use simple mobile internet functions (such as email, facebook & the like).

After contacting Vodafone support on a number of occasions, by phone initially & now via email, providing very detailed evidence of my issues all they can tell me is they've investigated the matter & found no issues with the network coverage - and then proceed to offer me 50% discount for the next three months.

Curious they would offer me a discount as compensation where they've supposedly found no issues. Three phone calls & another four email incidents logged without reasonable resolution - I'm now taking it to the TIO to get some action.

19495 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Optus is not better at 21 Sep 2011 11:28:43 PM
This is about Optus. I have a sim card which I purchased in the year 2000. Since about 3 years ago, it's been experiencing nil reception in arears where there is supposed to be otherwise great coverage. Consequently, my phone has constantly diverted to voicemail and i've missed important calls when the phone should have rung. Now this is Optus. I wrote a letter to Optus, no response. The only way to force them to respond had been to write a letter to the Federal Telecommunications Ombudsman. Optus contacted me and suggested that I go to an Optus shop and purchase a new sim card, saying that my one is a 2G one and that that may be why I am having these issues. So I went to an Optus shop and not only did they want $25 for it (I would have happily paid), but they said that I will not be able to carry my original pre-paid plan with me and they will force me to go to a new plan with a 3G sim card! Note that I still have one of those original plans from the year 2000, does anyone here remember Optus FreeTime Prepaid?? Remember how you get 10 minutes, mobile to any network mobile, for $25 cents, 7pm to 7am?? Well, I am still on that pre paid plan, and as there is no end date on it, they have to honour it so I am still on it now. I am not giving up this plan! So I'm still on the 2G sim card and apparently haven't made enough noise to force Optus or Singtel to replace my sim card with a newer 3G one and retain my plan. The lack of service happens all across Sydney Metro, Mt Druitt, Colyton, Willmot, Seven Hills, etc.

If anyone has any similar experiences with Optus or knows of anyone who does, please reply to this posting.

Thanks,

Jasko.

Simply does not work for 4 - 8 hours every day.

But they still insist on being paid all their money in our contract.

If it were a car, there would be outrage - but for some reason, we're all supposed to accept this?

Had my phone sitting 2 metres away from me at home this morning. Full reception (for a change) mum comes home asks why i never call her back, look at the phone and no missed calls or messages. She says the vet had been trying to call me but said my phone was busy. Turn the phone off and on again. After about 10mins i receive 3 missed calls and 3 new messages. fail

19483 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is shocking at 20 Sep 2011 04:50:09 PM
Well Adam, I have a suggestion for your 'suggestion box'.

I think you should create a similair website but for Qantas. Vodafone and qantas today have caused more stress than I can remember.

My parents who are in their 80's were flying back to South Africa today there flight was delayed due to strike and then due to engineering problems.

I have had so many drop outs today that my mother had a full blown panic attack as me calling her back all the time just stressed her out.

We are not going to see eachother for 3 years now and this is the way we had to say good bye.

Shame on you qantas and vodafone!!!
20 Sep 2011 08:35:34 PM: That's pretty sad, thanks for the suggestion. I started this website because everyone was having problems with Vodafone and the company wasn't listening. It was affecting a lot of people and I personally had enough so I used the skills I had and dedicated a couple months full time to the cause. Everyone's stories raised a lot of awareness and resulted in Vodafone announcing some big changes (which they are still working on delivering).

More than just this nice little website is the fact that I had a real story that was representative of so many people struggling with Vodafone at the time. Your story is one of the most important things and I hope that the stories and support on this site provide the inspiration to stand up against Qantas. If the story is your own then you have to use your skills to demand action, neither I or anyone else can do that for you.

I've written a bit about using your skills to solve problems here: http://blog.mijura.com/post/8410590257 but you are welcome to get in touch with me if you have any questions.

Thanks

Adam

21 Sep 2011 12:23:40 PM: OMG I have to fly Qantas twice a week for work and I could provide endless input of things that have gone wrong! I keep nagging our travel department to switch to Virgin flights, but being a cheaper airline they can't get the same service from the bookings side of thing. I am SO OVER them and the torture of flying with them, guessing what's going to go wrong next. I have had flights delayed with no notification, damaged and lost bags and being a Platinum member you think when I complain I would get a response within a resonable time period, but no. I'd had more than a month of waiting.

19474 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Voda phone support is totally useless... at 19 Sep 2011 05:43:34 PM
I just got my bill... after two sms warnings about usage outisde my plan, I was keen to know what the hell was going on. Apparently it was "national data". On the last day of my plan somehow I downloaded nearly 1.8GB - yes, GB of data. The three days before as well I also apparently managed to download nearly the same taking me to nearly 4GB for the month. So this bill is nearly $400 and my usage for the month is over 5 times more than any other month. I never go over my plan. I have WiFi at work and at home. All other days in my plan were normal usage, well within my plan like any other month or year...

I called Vodafone... after being transferred to three different people, I finally got offered $100. Whoop-de-do! I said thanks but no thanks. I'm not paying for any of this. I asked them could they tell me what IP address or websites this data came from. No they couldn't. Even though I was told by the operator before they could?? I checked my phone, downloads for September - 1 PDF of 200kb... Something is VERY VERY fishy...

I then went and visited my local Vodafone reseller store - they are going to call for me tomorrow - so will see how I go! Apparently their system was down this afternoon.

Also, my wife had something similar happen, but smaller amount, They refused to do anything. When we said our whole office will move to another supplier - they didn't care. When we said we had been with Vodafone for over 10 years, they said "we must have been providing good service or you wouldn't have stayed that long".... Seriously!

My wife is changing when the phone she wants comes out - she is out of contract - unlike me... and yes, I will also be changing, as will the rest of our office who are jacked with Voda.
21 Sep 2011 10:02:28 AM: I also have a huge amount of $621.80 bill for this month! all because of data usage. i dont know what to do..

nearly daily occurrence of dropping off network.
Try to call out - 'connection error'
Try to receive a call - straight to voicemail.
turn phone off then on - back on air and can make calls.
vodafail act like nothing's happening and there is no problem.
I can't believe they are still allowed to do it.

19464 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very failed at 18 Sep 2011 05:05:24 PM
I was in Sydney CBD on Friday 16th September and my Vodafail had no internet reception for a good 4 hours. As a result of this, I missed an important email that my colleague sent me regarding the cancellation of a meeting scheduled at mid-day. It took me 15 minutes to figure out why I was sitting alone in the meeting room.

19457 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor visitors at 17 Sep 2011 10:55:25 AM
I really really feel sorry for the international visitors that arrive to Sydney airport. Vodafone have 2 stores adjacent to arrivals a,b,c,d and their advertising on every trolley so the poor innocent people that want a local sim card think voda is strong here.
They had a few people signing up this morning.
Imagine that, your a backpacker in a foreign country, you depend on your phone for security reasons and friends / family connection 24/7 etc. Your in ANY location in Australia trying to make a call, and the phone wont work.
Imagine the feeling you would get!!
Plus westfields Miranda, on level 2 voda has literally 3 or 4 stores there all within a few minutes walk from one another.
I think voda should get the hint, excessive shops means no customers. Shut down and leave Australian shores!!
Plus, i dont think they have noticed asyet, vodaPHone!!! not vodaFone, i think the dodgy spelling should be self evident of the dodgy service.

Bought a broadband modem. Was told it can be unlocked for free after 6 months. Then when 6 months passed was told need to pay $25 to unlock it. Paid online but the UNLOCK CODE DOES NOT WORK!! Have talked to call centre, written to their tech people, no one is bothered. Not only was the original information misleading they have taken money and not provided the service. So difficult to contact them - everything goes to their idiotic all centre people who don't have a clue and keep send reobotic replies that do not address the problem!!

19433 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme fail! at 15 Sep 2011 12:19:51 PM
Well i posted last week about my ongoing call drop outs, connection errors etc.

After 3 FAILED attempts at contacting Vodafail (they did not respond) I finally decided to contact the TIO. Surprise surprise, I was contacted by their "Customer Resolution Representative" within a few days.
And consumer power WINS! I have been released from the remaining 18 months of my 24 month contract, with NO EXIT FEES!!! So i'm porting my number back to Optus. I am returning my current crap phone (Nokia C7) back to Vodaphone free of charge, and I dont have to pay another cent!

I urge ALL of you to contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman, and you'll likely get the same result.

All I can say is I'm very happy with the end result :)
