Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

882 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is I dream of having speeds as fast as dial up! at 18 Dec 2010 06:28:06 PM
Bought an iPhone 4 approx 2 months ago and switched to Vodafone, they were cheaper than others but a main motivation was that they have Internet tethering meaning I can connect my phone to my laptop and use it as a modem, I wanted to with optus but they didn't have Internet tethering. Well the Internet whether tethering or just using it on the phone I dreadful I usually try and load up a page then do some housework then intermittently come back to see if the page has loaded, the quickest it ever is is about a minute but usually much much longer, and even if it loads after a minute then the next page takes 5 mins, then maybe the next page takes 1 min and you get false hope again, then the next takes 10 mins! Sometimes it doesnt work at all even though i often have 3 bars. Even at it's fastest (which is rare) it's usually at least 30 secs to a min. It's fine if I am in the apple store using their wireless so can't be an iPhone prob, must be Vodafone. I don't remember even dial up being this bad. Even if I could get out of this contract not sure if anyone else Internet tethers.

879 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Drop Kick- Drop Out! at 18 Dec 2010 06:01:49 PM
My wireless Internet keeps on dropping out - there is a consistent drop out pattern as they squeeze the network. As I have a 2 year contract have been told by Vodafone I cannot get out of it. They have no Australian voice on these issues - help line is always in India or similar and very hard to get any sense out of them. I will move to another provider as soon as I can.

People, there are so many of us! Vodaphone (and 3) are raking in the $$$ from us hapless victims locked into their bullshit contracts. What are we paying for? A contract means you agree to pay a certain amount for a particular service. It works both ways. Both parties have to come to the party! I don't understand why so many on here seem resigned to sticking it out til the end of their contracts! Vodaphone have broken the deal. Contract over!

876 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is so bad I left at 18 Dec 2010 05:48:56 PM
I moved to Sydney, and the network was so unusable as to really mess with my life. I couldn't SMS my wife to arrange to meet her somewhere, because it might take 24-36 hours to get through. On weekends, it was pointless even trying to make phone calls; They wouldn't go through half the time. The internet on my phone was slow as to be unusable. I eventually moved to Telstra, and have since been relieved to use a phone network that ACTUALLY WORKS reliably.

What a shame. Any reputation they had previously has just become as bad as 3's shoddy reputation.
The service is so bad.
Consumers have a right to be angry - when you pay for a service, the service promised should be provided.
Phone calls that drop out and data usage fail is not acceptable.
Vodafone has a lot to answer for and I suspect the consumers want not only answers but also some kind of fair compensation for their losses.

Also my text messages have regularly arrived around 12 hours late - very bad for emergency situations.

867 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Fail. at 18 Dec 2010 05:16:37 PM
Hi guys I work for a telco ( not voda ) and must say that 70% of new customers that join our network come from vodafone. I hear all the complaints and stories about why ( customers point of view) vodafone is a "fail". Vodafone is the biggest telco in the world - this may be a major reason on my the network has gone downhill. They know that customers will
Sign up with them because it is a household name - they know they won't have trouble getting customers and profit- so they focus less on there customer service, and the voda service and network
Itself. If u haven't noticed 3 and voda have come together recently. I have seen numerous stores being shut down. (cost cutting) as well as not upgrading there network to the ever growing mass use of mobile phones. At the end of the day, it's about being confident that you can make a call when you need to - not about saving a few dollars a month. I'll stay in touch.

I was a moderately happy Optus customer, the phone worked perfectly the people not so well. But I moved to Vodafone when I got an iPhone 4. Since then I rarely get a signal and most of the times my phone says it has reception it is a lie. I will receive mutliple missed calls and messages all of a sudden when my phone stumbles upon a pocket of reception.

So I lodged a complaint and so far I have only had automated responses.

I was a happy Optus customer. My sister lobbied me and most of my family onto Voda for the free time. First 6 months were good, but it has progressively become worse, particularly since 3 share the same network ( I think they used to use Telstras network). I have 10 months left on this contract, which I intend to honour, but will be leaving it on day 1 of the contract ending.

Time to switch Networks methinks, I no longer receive phone calls. I get voicemail calls about two hours after the fact. Called Vodafone to register call dropouts, lack of coverage etc;
A recorded message recommended I leave my name and phone number so that a consultant could call back when I had progressed in the queue.
Over an hour later, I did get a call back - only to be put back in the queue! 10 minutes later, a consultant answered. And then my call dropped out.
Vodafone, you really are doing the wrong thing by your customers. And ultimately you will be forced to apologise and compensate. Your lack of responsiveness wins you no fans. In Australia, consumers appreciate transparency.
I, a customer for over 8 years will be leaving and not coming back.
My lifetime customer value will be going somewhere else.
Do the maths Vodafone and sort yourselves out.

If you are not with Vodafone and are considering signing up with them, don't. Read this forum, search the whirlpool forums and read the news. Vodafone have a terrible network and poor, poor service.

842 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very poor at 18 Dec 2010 01:55:30 PM
My company changed provider from Telstra to Vodafone 12 months ago. I have experienced nothing but constantly dropped calls, inability to connect calls and poor data coverage. I work in The Rocks in NSW and our office is in an area where their is apparently a "black-spot" meaning we receive very erratic, intermittent services.

I sometimes receive voicemails 6 -8 hours late. My customers think that I am being rude and not responding to their calls. Our company first reported the issue 10-11 months ago but it is an ongoing issue for us.

I say return us to Telstra so we can enjoy trouble free, drop-out free, instant voicemail services.

Thanks

840 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is sucking, but not in a good way. at 18 Dec 2010 01:29:16 PM
I was overjoyed when my prepaid $29 Cap was suddenly updated to 500MB bandwidth allowance. "This is awesome!" I thought to myself at the time, a justification to buying my iPhone upfront.

Except. Most of the time, a large majority of the time, even, I am unable to connect to the 3G network, or even the regular one. I bought an iPhone in the first place so that I could take advantage of being connected wherever I went - this is useful for my job which requires me to travel around the city a lot. I have lost count of the times I have been caught at 2am in an unknown place (my job often finishes at this time), and frikkin Vodafone refuses to connect to the network or, when it does, is so slow it is unusable.

The Vodafone 3G maxes out at 45kbps. This is when it does connect. This isn't broadband, or even fast. This is a joke, and the assholes are charging us for uploads as well, so everytime you have to reload that page which has timed out for the nth time, Vodafone is effectively stealing money off you. Byte. By. Byte.

If Vodafone stopped throwing Island parties (I kid you not - Vodafone owns a party barge moored just outside Taronga Zoo), maybe they could afford a proper network, real people to speak with and free blowjobs all around.

Still, they are better than Optus (who once tried to screw me out of $800+ dollars and who, btw, just threw a massive 6000 person Christmas party yesterday) and Telstra (just because). I am paying $0.50 per text message. WTF? A message is a tiny tiny amount of data, how can they continue ripping us off like this? Enough is enough.

Vodafail.

You guys are retarted, if things dont work on your phone maybe try and be patient and go into a store like EVERYONE ELSE! Or if you call up Customer Care pronounce your words clearly and you will be handled by the right department. Also if it is a phone problem more times than one it is a software issue and all you need to do is visit your home computer rather than bitch about a network provider who dont manafacture the phones. e.g. if your iphone isnt working why dont you moan to apple rather vodafone seeing as last time I checked they make the phone. So next time sort your problems out properly and learn to be patient.

Poor reception 2k from Sydney CBD, overcharged in my bill 2 months running, the promised credit to my account to correct this isn't showing - apparently there's known problems with myVodafone, repeated calls to the helpline about all these issues result in waiting times that are never less than half an hour - and then sometimes the call drops out...I could carry on! Provider has failed to provide "clear" terms of what is included and excluded from my contract, after signing me up for another 24 months.
Specifically - the "CALL Screen Service" is being charged as an "extra" on top of my contract .
As of 18/12/2010 , the Vodafone website DID NOT have Call Screen as an "exclusion" from their $49 cap plan. The contract that I have physically signed at the store, does not mention about these exclusions either. Its is absolutely misleading to hide these finer details of terms and conditions from consumers.
I have gone through ALL TERMS and CONDITIONS of the plan that I signed up for, and nowhere it does mention about these services and their exclusions.
This is true and correct as of 18/12/2010 and I would not be surprised if VODAFONE changes the contents of their website and disagrees with my statements. However, the Cancellations team Service rep agreed with me that this was not on the website - and I hope they have a recording of the call "for quality and training " purposes.

Bought a Blackberry and was assured by Vodafone that I would have full 3g and Data coverage in Wollongong, transfered my service from a 'no plans' to a Blackberry package, immediately after I activated the phone I had no or only GSM service. Unless I'm standing immediately under a mobile tower I have very little coverage and I'm unable to use any of the functions of the phone. Calls continually drop out, emails sometimes take 24 hours from sender to me, voice mail messages have arrived 2 days later, the list goes on. I have noticed a slight improvement in coverage in the past week but its still intermittent with periods of ZERO coverage. Tried contacting Customer Service, but as the calls continually drop out unless I get an answer in 45 seconds or less, I have no hope. Tried emailing my problem to them, several automated emails over 3 weeks I'm no closer. Made a complaint to the TIO and have had a reply from them but no joy from Vodafone. 6 weeks into the debacle, I'm still paying bills for something I'm not getting and my service is still CRAP!

I work in Pyrmont in the City and generally have no reception on my phone. similarly, my partner in Surry Hills generally has no service. The weird thing is some times when we are together my phone will work and hers wont or vice versa. So its just certain customers and not others that get faulty service? why is that?

I've been with Vodafail for around 10 years and haven't had an issue with them at all, until the last couple of weeks. Unable to make or receive any calls all weekend (during the week it seemed better). Unfortunately I only just re-signed a new contract, before all the current frustrations.

After 10 years of good service, it only takes one poorly handled incident (no communications at all) to loose a loyal customer. If it is possible for me to break out of my contract without pain or expense, I'll definitely be looking elsewhere.

I had an internet account for approximately 3 years and a mobile phone account for 5 years. Last year they sent me a bill for $1500.00 for my phone and internet. I rang and complained to the stupid call centre people in india and was told they would drop my bill down to $1200.00. I said if you look back over my bills you could see that my phone and internet had never been more than $120.00. The call centre person told me I had to pay the bill, and I said no and they basically told me that they would take legal action against me and they were abusive swearing at me. In the end I went to the telephone onbudsman and they adjusted the bill to $120.00 but not without a massive fight. Then I decided to go on vodafone prepaid for $29.00 per month. I live in the inner suburbs of sydney and for nearly 5 months now I can barely get an internet connect that doesnt last more than 3 mins without dropping out. I rung and complained and again was told by somebody in india it was a problem with my computer. I am just disgusted by the behavour of a company that is not transparent with its behavour with its billing and you can never work out exactly what you owe.

I think the govt should be looking at the contracts that lock people in and not allow them to move with paying penalty fees for putting up with such poor service, reception, drop outs, delays in actually making a call etc etc.

Voda with 3 are taking everyone for a ride but we should be getting off their bus...

Hi world. I signed up with vodafail in september using the samsung galaxy and since then i have had constant problems with the calls cutting out after 30 seconds or so, i thought maybe it was the galaxy or me touching the red button with my cheek but now i realise it is the vodafail network. Picture messages routinely take +12hours to get through or never come at all. Internet reception often fails even when out in the heart of sydney. I was pleased to read the article in smh about vodafail as now i know it is not just me or a fault with my phone however i would like to know when vodafone will be addressing this issue. It is extremely frustrating i wish i'd never been fooled into signing up with vodafail.

792 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is utterly epic fail at 18 Dec 2010 10:16:04 AM
How the hell can you NOT get 3G coverage in the center of the city? What is this Edge crap? So many call drop outs, data problems....

Did they not anticipate that if they have more customers (with the merger with 3) that there would be a significantly larger load on their services?

Telstra may have wider coverage of the country, but Voda/3 can't use that as an excuse. They're not a struggling start-up with funding and support issues.

I went with Voda because they had competitive plans. Don't tell me that cheap prices means cheap services? And when they say that they 'plan on upgrading' in the future, what the hell does that even mean? Surely the services would have been upgraded YEARS ago for this very reason, especially if they were even PLANNING on merging with 3?

782 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Makes me want to go back to paying high Telstra rates at 18 Dec 2010 10:00:17 AM
I use mobile broadband while travelling. Reception has worsened remarkably. It frequently connects to Vodafone EDGE, which is as bad as it can be- can't even download small emails. Vodafone 3G is only slightly better. Rarely, it connects to Vodafone HSUPA and provides decent connection. This is all while sitting in the same location. Why can't it connect to HSUPA all the time? Why do I have to put up with substandard connections when a better one is available?

Once you finally receive voicemails a day late, you cannot access the voicemails. Intermitent data to access websites. Hours later to be notified of missed calls. It has been going on for months. Will definitely switch to other phone carrier once my contract is up.

Some of my posts from WP:

Oh look, another bunch of unhappy Vodafone customers who are going to be lied to by Vodafone customer service about there being "no currently reported issues". Please...

After calling Vodafone about numerous call drop-outs, no internet access in 3G/2G and unable to send texts or make phone calls I FINALLY got some sense out of a CSR.

"Sir, I apologise but our network is congested beyond its capabilities at the moment. We are looking to upgrade sites in the future to deal with the sudden growth of customers using our network, but for the time being, there isn't really anything I can do to help you"

The helpful CSR even recommended that I switch to Telstra.

Vodafone are FULLY aware of the congestion issues, but are happily still signing up customers, and lowering their prices to get more and more and more people on board, thus adding to the issue.

RandomJoe writes...
followed pointless instructions about turning off the firewall and non-Microsoft services.

This is what really shits me about Vodafone customer services. They give you the run around and get you to do pointless troubleshooting when they know full well that the network is the problem (most of the time).

I've had Internet issues before with an iPhone 4, called up and was told to reset network settings, reflash phone, upgrade firmware yada yada only to be then told when all that failed that there was an Internet outage.

Thank you for building this website. So many people suffering, and we all thought we were alone. The bastards!!! Fuck them. They have been stalling, stalling, stalling everyone while trying to get the problem fixed. Feeding us lies and mumbo jumbo and making us confuuuuuused. Stealing our time and sanity. And stealing our $$$ while we pay for a service that doesn't exist. This has been going on not for a few days, not for a week, it's been going on for MONTHS. It's completely unethical, the deceitful behaviour of this company. I'm with Three - exactly the same problems. EXACTLY. I'm angry.

Correction: I was with Three until 2 days ago. And I'm still angry. Reading all these replies, I'm angry at what they put me through. Speak with your feet people.

I say: SPEAK WITH YOUR FEET, PEOPLE!!!!

Do NOT pay any exit fees. Do NOT pay another bill. A class action has to happen.

Yeah. Me too. I got a Samsung Galaxy S and my wife a Nokia. Both DOA. Can't download any apps because of constant poor reception. Storepersons trying to tell me that we need to upgrade the firmware. What a load. I may as well use my old Nokia and wish I had never left Telstra. Complete an utter waste of my time with Voda. No wonder the plan is so cheap - peanuts for monkeys huh. I am going to stop paying the bills and claim that technically the contract has been terminated by them by not meeting reasonable standards. This is a case for an Unfair Contract if ever I saw it.

772 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is A COMPLETE FARCE at 18 Dec 2010 09:37:52 AM
3 months ago my husband and I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S, however my husbands phone was DOA. I gave him my new phone so now I am left waiting for the replacement. I have contacted Vodafone I don't know how many times only to be continually disappointed. I understand that some stock is constrained and not available so I then said I would accept the HTC Desire HD, which they tld me had been sent and to wait 5 - 7 working days (I was told this on two separate occasions). At one point they said they were sending me an iPhone and I almost had a coronary! This is all on top of appalling service and my line constantly dropping out, oh and my phone just not ringing at all. This has become such a ridiculous situation and to be honest I would rather poke my eyes out with a fork than speak to Vodafone again. In summary, Vodafail sucks balls and I despise them.

For over one and a half months, I have had many problems with Vodafone related to this topic of crap reception and in return, our phones use more battery to pick a signal, therefore worse battery life. My iPhone 3GS constantly says No Service yet with OPTUS, i got full bars. On the 16th of December, I decided to move my entire family to OPTUS and leave vodafone after all this crap. Its such a joke - why arent they called AT&T? I had five phones on the $99 Timeless and they have just lofe $500/month of customer. It took to long to resolve and what made me move also was the CRAP and horrible customer service who in a positive way, give you the flick!

768 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is it has become intolerable at 18 Dec 2010 09:00:17 AM
Try going interstate to small towns and see the "SOS" or "Searching for Network" note on your phone, with no signal for an hour or so until you reach a major town. Moreover, in my opinion, the oursourcing of call centre operations to India has been a big failure!!!!!!!! These guys are not organised, have the wrong reasons for all our questions, and don't even understand simple solutions of "switching browsers" to ensure that the International Roaming Data Bundle is used correctly. After about ten calls, one technical guy finally solved it. I had to write to the PR team to get a callback from their customer resolutions team.
The problem with Vodafail is that their outsourcing the call centre operations has been a disaster, because those guys are not trained to offer solutions!
Get your act right and stop making a fool out of your customers!

Messages coming through from calls 12-18hrs late, but the phone was on in the first instance showing reception! Data transfer rates are appauling, dropped calls etc.... At the end of the day you pay for a service that is simply not being provided. Over 1 hour spent on customer/technical service, 40 minutes of which you are kept on hold for the next person to ask you exactly the same thing! Then advised it will be escalated with a response expected in 'about' 6 days. Completely unacceptable.

Latest of a long string of complaints - Vodafone has taken 2 weeks to find out that it will take them at least another 2 weeks to fix my account website login problem - a total of 4 weeks+ just to fix a login problem!!!

It looks like ALL customer support people are Indian who often don't understand English well enough, so that I spend more time making sure they understand the problem. This time is in addition to the time getting past the stupid LARA IVR system.

But the good news is that they do have a new callback service which does seem to be working - no more hanging on for 40 minutes.

I foolishly took on the business plan with vodafone because it was so much cheaper and had a massive handset rebate...seems you get what you pay for. With the number of call drop outs i am sure it has cost my business more in lost business than the money i saved by going with Vodaphone. Have to use 2G setting on the iphone (as recommended by Vodaphone support) as when on 3G data doesn't work properly, emails and voicemails come through up to a day late, calls go straight to voicemail without the phone ringing and then the voicemail doesn't get to the phone for 24 hours meaning i miss appointments, data is painfully slow...anything else? basically at vodafone supports own admisson 3g doesn't work properly and their advice is not to use it...sounds like vodafone is spruiking a product they know doesn't work...illegal? I bought an HTC Desire HD 2 months ago. I live in Manly & commute to Chatswood daily. For half of the way I got no to very little reception, and for the other half it is very random. 1km away from Chatswood CBD (on boundary road) I usually have no reception at all, hard to believe.

Yesterday, from Manly to St Leonards I had no data at all, only as we reached St Leonards it suddenly started to work (and I rebooted the phone a couple of time just to be safe).

So yeah, absolutely not impressed, it's a disgraceful service and a total ripoff.

Lets start with the delivery of my new iPhone, advised of a 3wk wait 5weeks later called waited on hold for 45mins. My phone had not been ordered fast foward 4wks phone finally arrives 9wks in total.

My wireless net is on average poor service or no service i live in the heart of the northern beaches my girlfriend with optus always has 3g coverage? My broadband is also hit & miss if it will connect to a usable server.

Vodafone also had a system issue in early feb in which my bill wasnt debited from my acc. I called & was advised it was paid, i advise it hadnt been debited so i dont know how it was paid. In June i recived a letter advising of the system issue & that my account would be debited to correct the bill, I rang voda to find out the total of the bill & was advised the letter was incorrect & I was upto date. July voda try to debit the "owing amount" on my account & it is dishonoured, I call voda & am advise i havnt paid my bill since feb when they direct debit my acc? I advise of the previous calls, I was told I was lying & that i need to pay the bill. A week later my phone was blocked 6 phone calls later 3 more rude advisers & finally after threating going to the communications ombardsman is my "owing amount waived" & my account reinstated.

At the end of my phone contract after having had a sims card with voda since the Nokia 5110 was the bees knees I'll be moving.

constant drop outs have made basic business near impossible. last two months of bills have sky rocketed $500 over already large caps. However my recent experience has now left with no choice but legal action as it has put my job at risk. As a pilot for a major airline i am currently on a standby roster. This is a month of being on call to be at the airport within two hours to crew a flight that has been disrupted. My company was unable to contact me due to the vodaphone network (potts point syd)and a flight had to be cancelled disrupting hundreds of passengers. A serious incident that i now have to answer to. I travel the world both for work and leisure and Australia's communication network is significantly worse than most third world nations. This failure of regulation and basic infrastructure is unacceptable.

I know this is a 2 year old story but i couldn't resist telling it when i saw this site.

about 2 years ago we got voda internet. within a month it had stopped working completely. everytime we switched the modem on...nothing.

calling customer support during the day was hopeless, never got through. mum and i woke up early one day to call them at 7am on the dot when the lines opened. at 705am the message we got when we called was "our voda customer service reps have slept in this morning, please try again later"

finally got through, they could do nothing for us. spent about 2 weeks trying to call to get our issue resolved. speaking to the same customer service rep each time. finally ended up wanting to just get disconnected and we refused to pay the contract termination fee because we didnt have any working internet.

the finance department customer service rep was the same guy was the previously useless tech service rep. finally got him to understand that we wanted to account closed.

he apparently did it, and to this day we still get monthly bills sent to us in the mail. we havent paid a single bill and when we call to tell them to stop sending us bills, they say the account is closed and we dont owe anything...and yet...we keep getting bills!

absolutely pathetic!

But you do get what you pay for - they are incredibly cheap if you compare the amount to get to another carrier.

Telstra in my opinion is honestly the best in the country - however you pay a price for it, so you have to ask if you are prepared to pay a premium for it. I'm not so Optus it is which has a reasonable service for the price

My calls kept getting dropped out and most of my msgs arrived after the event happened or even the next day or none at all. Considering other countries like Philippines, where economy is not as good as Australia, and yet they still manage to have signal in most places such as elevators and underground car parks. It's very appalling how they managed to let there customers hang in there without a word about their issue. And now when everyone is frustrated about their service, that's when they try to inform their customers. Isn't that a bit too late? It kinda feels unfair that we paid for the service we asked for and yet they inform us 12 months after issue started.
