26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

11286 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is poor poor at 9 Jan 2011 07:47:07 AM
I was told we would have good phone service in northern NSW. We signed up for a two year plan. Within 1 hour we realised that the phone signal was very poor. The sales rep didn't wont to know us and wouldn't answer his phone. Many hours on the phone and a $8000 bill for leaving vodafail. We have gone back to Telstra as we need phone signal for our business to operate. Voda phone are selling a FAULTY PRODUCT !!!!!. We are not paying this bill.

11285 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is poor coverage & service at 9 Jan 2011 07:43:36 AM
i am the owner of a small business that relies on my phone to get jobs. as of late eg, last few months, call drop outs whilst on phone either driving or stationary, or not even being able to dial out, however i have 2 to 3 bars of service on phone though. delay on getting voice mail. it's a bit hard to run a business when i can't even get jobs booked in.
just heard via media outlets that now vodafone's storage of customers details have now been accessed by other soucres, if that is the case, anything that has been accessed from me & can be proven that it was at fault from vodafone, look out vodafone, they will have more dramas than they thought.

11284 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Vodafone Customers can't call or SMS me at 9 Jan 2011 07:38:45 AM
I am a 3 customer and all of a sudden I was getting emails and facebook messages from friends whom are with Vodafone asking if I have changed my number. I was still receiveing calls and sms's from other friends and family from other networks though. When they tried to sms me, I would never recieve it, but they would receive my sms and calls. When they tried to call me they recieved the message "Phone not in Use" It took 3 months of convincing, examples including number dates and times, new sim card, visits to a 3 store to change my phone and long hours waiting for help on the phone before 3 could raise a network issue with Vodafone before it was fixed. i was advised that they are the same company now, so why did I have to go through all the pain for such a long time? I didn't receive compensation for my time, frustration and breech of contract on their side. I said that I want to cancel my contract, and they said I couldnt cancel unless I pay out my contract but they offered to transfer my contract the vodafone for free! I said you got to be kidding, they are half the problem. I never got an answer as to why all this happened. When my contract runs out in April, there is no way I will use 3 or Vodafone ever again in my life and personally I think they don't care either.

11275 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is not fulfilling the their part of the contract at 9 Jan 2011 06:25:33 AM
I have had problems with my iphone since my contract started. I constantly have no service, I get delayed messages, delayed voice mail and 3/4 of the time I can not call from my phone without having to switch my phone on and off numerous times. No one can call my phone either half the time. I have contacted Vodafone a number of times and complained that my phone is not working, they told me to contact Apple. I did, Apple told me to contact Vodafone. Everytime I call Vodafone I am on hold or speaking to somone in another country, they have advised me to go to a Vodafone store to get another Sim Card. I did this, still the same problem. I called them back, they still told me to go to a Vodafone store to check the Sim Card, the people working in the Vodafone Stores are not interested in helping you unless you are buying a new phone or signing up. They keep tellign me its not 'their' problem and to call Vodafone.

What annoys me the most is that I HAVE TO PAY my contract even though the Vodafone service is not fulfilling their part of the contact. I think its unfair and we have no control over the situation since we are just the little people. I have asked Vodafone to let me out of the contract since they are not providing me with any service for my payments and they give me this ridiculous price to leave. I think they are ripping people off and this has to be stopped.

Did you know that Vodafone is telemarketing to Optus customers who's contracts are about to expire?

1. Where did Vodafone get this information?
2. Are they serious or are they trying to create the biggest embarrassment in Australian corporate history?

Don't ever call me again, especially after midnight. I'm not interested in your services!

ACCC, WHERE ARE YOU?

Please, please, please help us and issue an order for Vodafone to stop selling contracts until they can actually supply a service.
SURELY, this must be illegal.

Shouldn't those responsible be prosecuted.

Directors of VHA, I expect you shouldn't be sleeping well at night while engaging in false and misleading practice.

What will your spouses and children think when you are issued with hefty fines and/or jail terms.
This is criminality on the largest scale.

Karma is a bitch.

Have a great night

11258 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is failblog fail at 8 Jan 2011 11:40:13 PM
I went on their website to get my phone unlocked so I could use it overseas with an American sim card. I paid the fee, went through the steps to the letter and the website said that a customer service representive will ring me within 7 days to confirm. On the evening of the 7th day I went into a Vodafone store just to check that it had been unlocked. His repsone "connect and sync it with itunes". Didn't even look at the phone, ask for my details or call anyone to check. Assured me this would work and said that he'd taken 100 Australian iPhones over to the USA and they'd all worked with AT&T sims. So when I get there, I purchase an AT&T sim, low and behold, it won't connect. I then had to purchase a temporary phone over there just so I could contact people. When arriving back in Australia I called Vodafone to tell them the problem and they refused to refund the unlocking fee claiming that there is no guarantee that it will allow American sim cards and this should have been explained to me by the customet service consultant who never bothered to ring.
9 Jan 2011 01:08:27 AM: "Assured me this would work and said that he'd taken 100 Australian iPhones over to the USA and they'd all worked with AT&T sims." was this a shop employee? Why do you think they would be taking phones to the US? Why do you also think anyone would take so many with them, personal or business its simply unheard of. Its amazing you think someone in that position would even test 1/10 that many in AUSTRALIA yet alone overseas.
VodaPhone is fail, but so are you.

I don't get any service in my apartment, I have to go out into the driveway to send a text message and I live 20mins from Sydney CBD. I have to constantly reset the connection to receive any sort of 3G service when it drops out 30+ times a day. I pay $100 a month for a phone I can use a quarter of that time, and always drops out at the most inopportune times.

I am an ex Vodafone employee, I was with them for 5 years in that time they have transformed from a customer orientated company giving out loyalty reward handsets etc etc and also having an excellent network which was not over crowded to not giving a crap about their customers and an absolute bottlenecked network. As an employee I had complained on many occasions regardingthe lack of network, the disgusting poor lousy 3G network they have and all i ever got was the run around. The amount of times I have had to shout at a customer care consultant to fix an issue for a customer who had come into the store I used to work at would be over the 50 mark. To cap it off if a company can not look after it's staff the frontline and face of it's business how is it going to look after their customers. I'm not sure if you are aware but afterte Vodafone and 3 merger vodafone bought the stores back off first mobile, digicall, gsm etc since then a huge amount of staff have quite including man Teritory managers, state managers and atleast 25% of retail staff. Bonuses were cut by 50%. Now a days they employee young staff who are casuals that go to university, tafe etc. They do not have much responsibility like the full time staff and just come in do their shift and go home. Pretty much Maccas employees. Vodafone is going down the drain big time. Switch over carriers and don't look back.

At first I just thought it was me & my bf with lousy service until I found this page.
My issues- *Little to No service *Little to No internet connection
*Calls constantly dropping out *Msgs I send being received hours/days later
*False service readings. It said I had full service and I couldn't do anything when I needed to.

I need phone reception!! I couldn't call for help when I was in a car crash, I have been stuck with 2 young children and was unable to call for a lift, I couldn't call the police after kids tried to steal my car, I missed a train and had no phone/internet reception to check a timetable as I was trying to get to an airport. Not to mention the smaller things or trying to get in contact with myy family etc. I've really had enough. I have had to switch back to my Optus prepaid Which I shouldn't have to do in a contract.
Last week we called Vodafone and went through the "switch off and turn it back on" routine and a big surprise..no service...
We were put on hold and transferred. Then 61 mins into the call it dropped out.
We called back twice and after an hour each time it dropped out (from a landline) we called back and got the option for them to call us back.
They called back and started the process again "turn the Phone off" They then told us they would get the engineers to call us back within 72 hours.
The "Call" was 4 days later and actually an Sms saying that they were working on it.

1 week later, 3 hours on hold 1 call and sms from vodafone nd we are in the same position. Its not good enough!!!

11250 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is painfully frustrating at 8 Jan 2011 10:09:05 PM
In June 2010 I purchased a mobile broadband plan for my parents. On attempting to set it up for them I couldn't get it to work. I called the help line and spoke to someone in Israel who told me after a half hour that the salesperson from where I bought the device should have supplied me with an updated CD. They had given me a CD but it was the wrong one. I went then to a Vodafone store and they gave me the correct on. They seemed to be well aware of the issue as there had been other people who had the same issue.
On trying the device again it still didn't work so I called again, this time speaking to someone in Egypt. After half an hour I was told the device was faulty and I needed to get a replacement. I then called the local vodafone number I was given and she tried to get me to accept a replacement she would send. This was hugely inconvenient as my parents live interstate and I was only there for a few days.
I gave my details and yes a postal satchel did come with details of how to return the goods which I followed to the letter. The problem now is that Vodafone claims it has never recieved the device although I have an email from Australia Post stating that someone at VF signed for it. I won't go into what VF told me to do to prove I had sent it. So they now continue to bill me for a device I don't have that never worked. Plus they charge me for a paper bill that I never wanted.
I am reasonably happy with my mobile phone except for the data download speed (I only have 50 MB/ month but the rate at which it happens would take me forever anyway so I hardly use it for that.)
I have emailed their complaints site on numerous occasions and get the answer that they are unable to help me any more. The VF store is unable to help as the staff have apprently the same access that I have.I've left it for a while now as I was too frustrated and had other more pressing issues to contend with but I aim to give them a call on Monday and then the ombudsman. I thought about sitting in their office until they fixed it but I don't have the time nor energy.

We purchased a broadband modem today to use the internet wireless whilst on our holiday leaving tomorrow. My parents require a constant connection for business purposes, and unfortunently this is required whilst on holidays.

We attempted to add credit to it, but Vodaphone tells us via their website that the number is invalid!

To make matters worse, my father had to speak to a representitive from a call centre in India who didnt have any concept of Customer service.

Poor effort.
9 Jan 2011 05:48:34 AM: If you purchased a broadband modem it already has credit on it.

$79 6GB lasts three months.

How long are your parents going on "holiday" for with their "critical" business requirements?

Posted from my Vodafone USB stick which has no problems.

11236 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is No service at 8 Jan 2011 04:33:56 PM
I "upgraded" my $49 cap post-paid plan to a Blackberry Bold phone on 30/12/10. I was blissfully unaware of the issues with Vodafone's 3G service previously as I previously didn't own a smart phone. Between 30/12/10 and 08/01/11 (10 days) I've had no service for 2.5 days - a quarter of the time that I've had the phone.

This has led to me not being able to use basic functions such as calling and SMS, as well as email, internet, etc. Also, this has also adversely impacted the battery life of the phone. Fully charged the phone will last 4-5 hours before the battery is so low that WIFI/radio service couldn't be used (even if it was availble).

Not happy. I'd love to know what I can do to resolve the problem or exit my contract without charge.

Great website by the way - really appreciate it.

Cheers.

11235 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Epic at 8 Jan 2011 04:28:06 PM
I ordered a phone from the online store on the 16th NOVEMBER, they said they were in stock and I would receive it in 4 days. I never received the phone. I called Vodafone, waited on hold for an hour, and had a lady tell me "she didn't know, and maybe it will be there on Friday" I called again a week later and was given a consignment number for Australian Air Express, I called them the next day and was told that the phone was marked as "return to sender" on the computer and it never left the airport. I called Vodafone again, to be told that they didn't know why (after trying to prove that I never received the phone, that is), but he promised me it would be in my hands in no more than 5 business days. Those 5 days came and went, I called again, waited on hold again, told my story to 3 people again, and was again "Promised" that he would call me back in 48 hours with an answer as to where my phone had gone. Again, those hours came and went, I called again to be told that I would have to cancel my order and then re-order the phone.
I thought stuff that, I won't do anything....but a week later I got a f&*king bill from them, for $90!...I had opted for a direct debit option as payment! So of course I ring them up and again wait on hold for over 90 minutes, got passed on to 6 different people, and got talked into giving them one more chance, and my phone will come to me in a week, and that he had canceled the bill and direct debit order..... Its now been 2 weeks. My account is due to be debited on the 12th Jan, and I just know it will be.....
I cannot believe how they have f*&ked this up so many times. I find it very hard to keep cool everytime I ring, I know its not their personal fault, but they have no clue as to what you have been through, and to repeat your story to so many people. And them to have something go wrong EVERY time! It is somebodies fault....
I just want my contract terminated. I want to know that money isn't going to be taken out of my account, and I will stick with Optus.
This has been a balls up of epic proportions. I find it hard to figure out how ANYONE manages to get a vodafone phone, when they have screwed me over
about 8 times... F&#k you vodafone!

Around December 2010 I received a message from "Systems Alert....Transaction failed - Insufficient funds.....After trying to reply to this message I receive "Invalid characters in recipient field - SYS ALERT". I sought help at a Vodafone store in Miranda Fair, was told they could replace the Sim card and this would stop. It was Christmas and they were busy asked me to go and see this young men...unfortunately he was very busy and I sought held p from a young girl well thats another story. I left with the new sim and was assured the problem was solved. Unsure of the last girl and I went back to see if I could see the original young men....Still busy and saw another young lady...she seemed to know more than the original girl...I left happy UNTIL!!!!!!!!! I received another message and so on goes this ridiculous sage....I am currently waiting on the phone for the last 30 minutes.....GRRRRRRRRR...Am now hanging up I guess they win until I will get another sim card with another company...By the way this is with an ordinary "recharge prepaid"

Supposedly 1555 is a free service to call
VodaPhone customer relations.. right?

So why few calls I made to 1555
being answered by Directory assistance
people? VodaFail charges for
directory assistance calls.. don't they?

$79 a month for service which they do not
provide and now they will charge
me for calling 1555???

How is this company able to get away with
such abuse of Australian clients?

Shouldn't
some government agency be investigating
this company to protect consumers?

No point ringing Vodafone I do not wish to remain on hold for average 25 mins only to be apologised to. They, In my opinion have signed up way too many new clients and the hardware cannot cope. The way I feel now I have no choice but to go back to copper fone line. I came across from Telstra and I cant believe Im contemplating going back. Truth IS stranger than fiction.

Literally no more than 5 minutes ago, I was sitting on my couch and my phone alerts me that I have a voice mail, which I find interesting considering my phone didn't even ring. The real kicker is that my reception was showing I had full bars! If I can't even receive phone calls, why on earth do I have a mobile phone. It is not my iphone either, as I only updated to the latest software on itunes yesterday. All my friends and family have pretty much given up calling me coz they can never get through so I resort to communicating via facebook. What's even worse is I'm currently looking for a job, and how confident do you think I am that prospective employers will be able to successfully reach me on my phone? Yea not so much...vodafail of epic proportions. Don't even start me on the effectiveness of my 3 mobile broadband dongle, I'll leave that for another day and another website. I receive voicemails days after they have rung without any record of the phone call.
Constantly out of service, when call barring was placed on my phone it took them 48mins to answer my first call and once the mistake was "fixed" i had to call back as it wasn't and spent another 1 hour WAITING to speak to someone who saw that nothing had been fixed on the phone.
I am sick of paying for phone bills when i am on $99 unlimited for everything when i am not receiving a full service !

We were with 3 and have no issues with them, with Vodafone taking over 3 we decided to upgrade our phones and move to Vodaphone. We have been with them for about three weeks now and have yet to have a time where our phones can actualy ring each other ( even in the same room we cannot connect at times). Our young son just got his first pre paid with Vodaphone and we cannot even ring or get a text fro him ( worried parents). From our view we have been ripped off with lousy network coverage, dropouts and lousy customer service, if we had known how bad they were we would have stayed with 3 or gone to Optus or another telco. Vodaphone are shocking.

I was told that reception would be in my area and all my family is with vodafone and has fine reception but for some reason my iphones always got 1 bar unless it awitches over to edge it goes up to full bars. The iphones just dont work well on vodafones network and they need to fix this. My calls fail and drop frequently my internet just doesnt load or tells me cell data cannot be activated along with you are not connected to the internet with full 3G coverage.

11194 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 8 Jan 2011 09:47:43 AM
I have had ongoing problems with vodafail over the past few months with poor internet coverage, call dropouts and not being able to make calls when my iphone tells me i have full reception! "Call failed" is something i have become very familiar with. As of yesterday morning i have not been able to make or recieve ANY calls, however my phone is still telling me i have ample reception. Some messages are getting through and others aren't. I am extremeley frustrated as i am unable to contact vodafone via phone to find out whats going on nor can i find an email address on their website as the "contact us" email facility is down. How convenient.

I posted about my frustration on facebook and somebody suggested i need to turn of 3G, i have no idea how to do this or what this means.
8 Jan 2011 10:22:26 AM: It means setting your network from 3G to say, 2G. It is a setting somewhere on your phone (phone settings?) depending on what phone you have. On my blackberry is under manage connections -> mobile network options. You can always post back on facebook to ask for more detailed instructions.

I am a Doctor, and frequently cannot receive or make calls on Vodafone. I will be a GP in 2 weeks, out in the community where communication is a must. I will have to buy a second Telstra phone to ensure my patient's safety as I cannot trust Vodafone.

Lets hope some of this gets noticed!
23 Jan 2011 07:29:21 PM: I thought doctors still had pagers? A very reliable old service.
23 Jan 2011 07:30:32 PM: Just contact the TIO to cancel your Vodafone account penalty free, then simply port to Telstra ~ No need for a second service, just one reliable one :)

i purchased an i phone 4 and was told by vodafone i could unlock it straight away to put my testra sim in as i dont get coverage at my house and they were the cheapest to get an i phone from as i still have a yr and a half on my telstra contract. surprise surprise after swaooing my sim over to a icro sim it will now take upto 10 days to unlock the handset. vodafone you suck you mislead customers to sign up and then you dont do anything to help i hope you go bankrupt!!
8 Jan 2011 11:11:30 AM: Quite often if you buy a new phone from any network the unlock code is not readily available and it can take a week or so for the network to get the code from the manufacturer.

Once your phone is 3-6 months old or beyond the unlock code is immediately avaibable.

Two factors 'may' inpact upon the 3-6 month time frame:

(1) the manufacturer / brand of the phone; and/or
(2) how long the phone was held in stock at the stop you bought it from.
8 Jan 2011 01:43:23 PM: Actually you can get the unlock codes 24 hrs after signing up, by going to vodafone.com.au/unlock The iphone is the exception as with all telcos, you need to contact customer service they will then contact apple to get the code, and then you will recieve an SMS to plug into iTunes with another network's sim and that process should be 3 to 4 working days.
8 Jan 2011 02:48:07 PM: when signng up i was told i could unlock it srtaight away, i have had the phone for 2 weeks and still cant get anywhere with them, i called the about the issue and was told 10 days i said that wasnt good enough as i was told i could do it straight away and that was why i signed up. They then put me onto a supervisor who told me it was apples fault not theirs, he would sort it out and call me back, 5 hrs later no call from him so i call apple yself. Find out they told voda everything is ok on their end and that voda eed to escalate the issue as my imei seems like it hasnt been released yet.........I HATE VODAFONE!!! thanks for the useless phone!!
8 Jan 2011 03:00:12 PM: just spoke o vodafone to be old, no it is not an error from vodafone that there is actually a backlog on their end and it will take 10 days to resolve

11184 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Account keeping inaccurate and dishonest at 8 Jan 2011 08:13:39 AM
Won't update payments made on Web page, and now without paper billing this is all I've got to use against them. Mysterious $25 charge this month while still having ~2G left on usage. Clicking on 'Bill history' 'Payment history' 'Usage' etc ALWAYS brings me back to the inaccurate 'Acount Summary' page.

I wish Mr Nigel Dews all the worst for the New Year, and that someone screws him over, and treats him with the utter contempt he has shown to customers since September last year.

[Actually want to do worse things, starting with kicking him VERY HARD in his googlies, rest can't say online or in public].

I have had all of the problems on this site, dropped calls, texts that would have been faster sent by pigeon post. So bing a good chipmonk i complained on the vodafone website and THEY CALLED ME - it was so unpected I wondered if it was a hoax. Some poor bozo on a chain read the script telling me that they had taken note of my problems and would TAKE THIS INTO ACCOUNT WHEN PLANNING improvements in the area. They had now idea when this would be. Rather than say I would take this into account when planning to pay my account, i went to Telstra and signed up. See you in 10 years vodafone.... that is if the company still exists. I have a new word for Vodafone's board to learn - NOW!

Back on Sept30 (And for 4 consecutive days) my 4 phones (Mine, wife and 2 x daughters) phones were sending multiple texts to every recipient. The least was 6 and the most was 14. When I spoke with Vodafone I was told they were aware of the 'Glitch' in there service and offered me $10 free credit. I explained that I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to have a glitch in my business that invoiced clients 14times and I only had to reimburse $10 per complaint. Complaint ongoing. 11159 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is A Absolute Rip off! Everyone should skype use have incoming calls only on Mobiles and top up once a year. Vodafone is STRAIGHT UP SHIT at 7 Jan 2011 09:58:51 PM
For my birthday I thought i'd upgrade my phone and go on contract after being on prepay with vodaphone NZ and vodafone australia for over 10 combined years. Anywho this is how it it panned out.

1st step: I apply for the contract online and was approved and had my phone delivered to me etc, however because the phone was very expensive I called Vodafone and requested to have incurance added.

2nd step: As advised by a vodaphone rep who "Fucken Lara" the machine eventually transferred me to and took over an hour to I was then advised that insurance cannot be approved over the phone and I must take the phone in to a store so they can view and confirm that insurance was applied before the package was opened.

3rd Step: A lady fills out the insurance form we both sign and she says it will be sent away and I will be charged $10p/month. I was not given a copy of the insurance forms.

All sounds easy right???? WWWWWRRRRROONNNNNNNGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!

My phone breaks so I take it in and was advised will not be warranty. Fine I advised is under insurance only to be told the is no way I can have insurance if i signed up over the phone..... like WTF "What The Fuck" Yep I was told insurance cannot be applied when contracts have been organised via direct deals over the net. Ok now this is crazy but its true so i decided FUCK that im gonna get something in writing.

I then go online and chat some spastic who also said the same thing so i said to her "I was told to take the phone in still sealed and have the insurance forms filled out, signed and sent away" so she replies back saying i am right so then I email her back and say "Please read your email below confirming that insurance cannot be added" so the dumb bitch emails me back and says "I am just going off what you said previously" I mean come on who works for vodaphone the spastic or me.

In the end I couldnt be fucked dealing with vodafone...... I pay my bill late every month and I wait for a collections call unfortunately for the person on the other end they cop a ear bashing!!!! And now that they have disconnected my phone I have called them to update my details and they are now calling me on another mobile number to collect funds.

Yes I am still paying it as I do not want bad credit but guranteed I will leave $100 or less at the end of my contract and call them back to request a credit.

Vodafone is shit!!!! I recommend you get rid of it, start using your work phone if you can or get a landline. If that does not suit you then go anywhere but vodafone..... Hate them with a passion.
8 Jan 2011 07:25:46 AM: Great Aussie customer service Han..
8 Jan 2011 11:44:53 AM: I'm not so sure about this. Pay all your other bills like water etc on time or even in advance and only pay VF when collector calls. People checking your credit might notice this and realise the problem is VFu..wi.s.
9 Jan 2011 01:25:42 AM: If this is true you would go to the TIO. They have sorted issues far less and worse then this.

I would assume you kept logs when ever possible to help your case.

Common theme among all dissatisfied customers is
being forced to waste hours on phone line while
trying to contact Vodafail.. could this be deliberate
ploy on part of VodaFail management to discourage
clients from canceling contracts or complaining
about service? VodaFail must have millions of clients
on contracts? Few thousand writing of horrible
experiences is not going to cause them any worries or
make any dent in company profits. I have to suffer

When I first entered my plan with Vodafone, I signed up for the $49/month plan. When I received my first bill I was astonished to find that I had been issued with a THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY EIGHT DOLLAR BILL. Upon calling Vodafone, they told me I had been signed up for the $29/month plan, and would need to provide my invoice as proof that it was *their* fault not mine. After about 20 minutes of back and forth "there's nothing to suggest that you wanted a $49 cap", (even though I had provided my invoice) they offered me a $50 discount on my bill, but advised me that to return to the $49/month cap there would be a $45 fee. Which meant after everything, I saved $5. It took me about 3 months to pay off and there was absolutely no lenience or understanding from Vodafone at all. I never recommend Vodafone to friends and won't enter a second contract with them.
7 Jan 2011 07:02:42 PM: When they get you (and they get a lot of people), they dont let go
7 Jan 2011 07:33:22 PM: but they MUST fix the account at their expense....they have no choice
8 Jan 2011 05:19:32 AM: Sure, but it will take a lot of time, effort and frustration to get them to fix it, they count on the fact that a percentage of clients will give up

11124 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is No words to explain... at 7 Jan 2011 05:20:43 PM
I have had a post already to state my issues with drop outs and lack of coverage at home and at work, yet they have managed to top it!!!

Yesterday I have had some problem with my touch pad, was not responding, so call for help. I was told that I should switch off the phone and do a hard boot. (Holding down send and hang up buttons as phone turned on)
After I have down that, phone has erased all data from the phone, booted, yet never fixed the issue, only created a new one. Phone is now completely useless, as it is asking to choose network provider, that is only can be down by tapping on one or the other....

Being Thursday, run down to Bondi Junction Vodafone, where 3 young stuff members were busy chatting with clients, in a very casual manner. After about 30 minutes of wait, one of them turned to me and asked, "what do you want"...

Quickly have set him straight, as that language and tone of voice was way out of line, bought a new phone out right and left as soon as I could!

I AM THROUGH WITH VODAFONE!!! I can't wait to have my contract finished and all of our phones (small business with all stuff on one plan), taking it elsewhere...
7 Jan 2011 05:55:38 PM: As someone in business, and having a lot of problems with vodafone, I honestly believe it makes economic sense to pay those greedy bastards at telstra, for what has to be far better coverage, and move on
7 Jan 2011 06:47:13 PM: I have used telstra for mobile internet broadband and 3g phone for several years and only use Vodafail as a backup. Telstra customer service also totally sucks big time but their mobile coverage all around australia is 1st class. I have been 20 metres underground, surrounded by solid rock and still get a 5 bar telstra signal. Vodafone could never come close to this.

7 Jan 2011 03:09:43 PM: Vodafone UK may not worry, if Vodafone Australia is still signing on customers. Why worry about the welfare of customers, if Vodafone Australia keeps channelling rivers of gold in the UK's direction.

Of course there comes a day . . . and that will be when contracts are not renewed and disgruntled Vodafone customers switch to other service providers?

But has that day come yet? Are people still seeking deals rather than service?

We have been receiving countless dropped calls, painfully slow mobile phone internet connection and wait times so ridiculous that you can only hang up in frustration. Not to mention a growing number of staff that are absolutely incompetent in dealing with ANY issues and that will constantly flick/transfer you to the 'right' department or just plain hang up on you. I have worked in a call centre before and I know how call stats work and the pressure the staff are put under to reduce reduce reduce their talk time which ends up with the staff just hanging up. It really is coming across as though VODAFONE is just getting too greedy by not training their staff and by downgrading their service and reception so as to lead a price war.

10 Jan 2011 07:47:35 AM: Hi,

To unsubscribe from Vodafone Compass type in www.vodafonecompass.com into your phone's browser, scroll to the bottom of the page and select My Subscription. Select Unsubscribe and follow the prompts.

If you are still having problems, please drop us an email support@yappmobile.com.au (we are the developer behind Vodafone Compass) and we will sort this out for you asap.
28 Apr 2011 03:37:03 PM: Hi

I am also trying to unsubscribe from Vodafone compass and I'm finding it is not easy at all and it's really frustrating. I have an iPhone and when I typed that web address into the phones browser it takes me to the app store where there is no unsubscribe button. When i googled "unsubscribe from Vodafone compass" all the results are from little blurb about it that says you can "unsubscribe at any time". False advertising because no where does it tell you HOW. I only subscribed for the Garage Sale Trail and I've already paid for another month. This is really shitting me. It's pretty dodgy to make an app with a subscription to a monthly payment that is really difficult to get out of. I want my $16 back for the two months I already paid for.

11082 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very Fail at 7 Jan 2011 12:46:24 PM
I have not been able to use my 3G network properly for many months. I made a complaint about 6 months ago after major frustrations and just gave up and dealing with a 2nd rate service. I went into a store one day and I was advised to turn off the 3G network as it "really doesn't work well anywy". Whenever I have full bar on my 2G network I have tried to switch over to 3G and goes right back to no service. why should I have to pay full price for a service which is not meeting up to its expectations. I tried to call vodafone today and there appears to be no option for them to call back as after 10 minutes I gave up. I run my own business and sometimes I have 3 h ours of voicemail deliveries due to non delivery. I have not used visual voicemail for many months due to it not being reliable. Very very frustrating,
7 Jan 2011 02:12:15 PM: Also have been told by staff to turn off 3G which does improve the call reception but leaves you wondering whether we have just stepped back 10 years in technology and why we are paying for a 3G service we are even advised by VODAFONE doesn't work.

11078 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very bad at 7 Jan 2011 12:14:33 PM
After 6 years out of the country and as a former very happy vodafone customer, I decided to come back to them, what a difference a few years make, the Australian network from being in my opinion better than any I experienced overseas, is now awful, worse than some of the 3rd world countries I have lived in, what have they done in the last few years, looks like they have sacked or let go the engineers who originally, designed and built the network, maybe they have also have stopped upgrading and adding to their network, I also suspect cost cutting and a lack of investment in basic engineering services, i.e. coverage, congestion and quality, with most of the money going into selling app's that you use once and then get bored with them, leaving them with a very a very dodgy basic product for voice and data calls, after a few months and a threat of legal action from me, I managed to get out of the contract and am happy with an alternative provider

11067 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Failed Miserably at 7 Jan 2011 11:36:40 AM
After 14 years with Vodafone (yes I have had the patience of a saint) I have just churned to Telstra. After moving jobs to North Sydney, and finding that my reception was OFF more than ON thru November, resulting in so many missed calls, and questions of "Why was your phone off it just goes straight to vmail" I decided enough was enough. Even being on the top floor of a building did not help Voda's USELESS reception. They have the audacity to charge me churn fee for the remaining three months of my 24 month contract - one which they did not honour becauise they couldn't offer me a service

11064 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is ...almost in tears at 7 Jan 2011 11:17:27 AM
I'm a pretty persistent and patient person but this is completely beyond the joke now and I am ready to give up.

After complaining about the lack of reception and missing texts I have now spent two days trying to "accept an offer" they made to me to keep me with their company. (They offered me a discounted new plan for 24month period).

I decided to take the offer but I cannot believe how many times in 2 days (I've seriously lost count) that I've called, how many times its cut out, how many times I've been put on hold, then transfered, then been called back by them, put on hold immediately after and so forth. I was just transfered again only to get some guy overseas who has absolutely no idea what I'm on about and had the nerve to be snippy about it and try re transfer me to someone else - instead he has put me on hold again. This has been a 40 minute call and counting.....OH wow, now it's just cut out and I've been hung up on.

So they've made me an offer to stay around and it's been absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to accept it!

Calling Optus now.

7 Jan 2011 11:46:20 AM: I have had the same experience. FYI i have now churned to optus and have needed to call them only twice in three months. both times, the phone rang three rings and a human answered the call, helped me with my issue and that was that.. vodafone need to be held accountable for their actions. optus are infinitely better at customer service.
9 Jan 2011 06:21:54 PM: Yep I too have now signed up with Optus - yayy!!!

I (stupidly) tried to give Vodafone a second chance but it was impossible to accept their 'renewed discounted contract'.

Worst service I've ever encountered in my life.

11060 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is The wort MVO i have seen globally at 7 Jan 2011 11:07:23 AM
After being a loyal Vodafone user in Australia and the UK now for 8 years I am disgusted in the service and performance of the network and the services Vodafone provide. I have worked for many MNO (Mobile network Operators) within the UK and Australia and have not see this level of poor capacity and service quality planning in a provider in all the years I have been working in the industry. I am sick of Vodafones responses to the blatantly obvious network and capacity issues they are experiencing!

I have just re-signed a contract with Vodafone 5 months ago to which I have been in communications with Vodafone to leave due to thier discusting service they have been providing thier customers in the last 7 - 10 months.

Vodafone - We are all Sick of it, Man up and tell the public the full extent of the issues, offer an exit for contracted customers and you might just save some of your already tainted image.

11059 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is LEGAL ACTION at 7 Jan 2011 11:06:45 AM
This is not spam. Vodafone have literally lost job prospects for me. I am with a certain solicitors regarding unfair bank fees class action. I have asked them to have a look at this "vodafone" issue and told them there may be potentially thousands of people interested in a law suit against vodafone. I will have to contact the creator of this site to ask certain permissions, but vodafone is costing people real money and grief and I believe this should be brought to a legal level for vodafone to actually take action instead of making excuses. Should the creator of this site read this I would like to communicate with you on this issue. I am working on the solicitor to the effect of a "no charge" to people on this, as these solicitors actually countersue for their fees. As I said, this is not spam, it is a desperate need to strike vodafone where it hurts .... their bank account!
7 Jan 2011 11:16:39 AM: Remember, telecommunications is infrastructure, and even government funds this to a certain extent, we pay good money for a service and we should damn well get it! Anyway We could do this, given the owner of this sites permission.

11048 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is DISGUSTING at 7 Jan 2011 10:14:31 AM
Have a Nokia E71, my plan ends in July, wish it ended soon because I cannot afford to pay the fee to cancel my contract! I used to get excellent reception in and around my home, but now I am lucky to get 1 bar of reception! I can hardly ever access the internet (for which I am paying money for) and find that calls drop out for no reason. I live in Newcastle, this shouldn't be happening!

Receiving MMS msgs never happens - my friends send me pictures of their kiddies and they think I'm being rude when I don't reply - instead I have to inform them that Vodafone are pathetic!

Also just recently went on holidays up north and along the Pacific Highway was lucky to get reception 4/5 times in a 4 hour trip (even when I did get reception I only got it for 1/2minutes)... When I reached my holiday destination I had absolutely no reception (even tho Optus & Telstra had full reception).

Vodafones service is disgusting, they screwed up one of my bills a couple of moths ago and I had to get someone to call me back as the Indian on the phone had absolutely no idea what I was calling about and I could hardly understand what she was saying to me.... Altho she kept thanking me for my call (im guessing these are replies straight from a piece of paper)!

VODAFONE HAS GONE TOTALLY DOWN HILL IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS (IN PARTICULAR)
NEVER AGAIN WILL I SIGN WITH THEM AND I ACTUALLY FEEL SICK EVERYTIME I WALK PAST THE VODAFONE SHOP AND PPL R SIGNING NEW CONTRACTS AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE GETTING THEMSELVES INTO!
7 Jan 2011 10:17:27 AM: oh also just chckd the network upgrade site and my suburb (or any other suburbs in Newcastle) are not listed in the upgrade...

oh also does any1 else sometimes not get reception then have to turn their phone on and off to try and get some?
7 Jan 2011 10:21:51 AM: yes, and I live in Panania, Sydney, not far from the CBD.
7 Jan 2011 10:24:08 AM: Yep & I live in Metro Perth. Same deal with reception & Internet, bloody pathetic, as soonas my contract is up I'm going to OPTUS or anyone else (apart from Telstra)

I work in a major city and am lucky to be able to get any kind of signal unless i am several stories up, out in the open and with my phone in some kind of gymnastic balance beam pose. I live ten minutes away and the reception is marginaly better, i only have to select the function and then set the phone on the coffee table for 30 or more seconds to get it to work, which it does....... sometimes. Seriously, i am paying for this? Vodafone are slightly better than the other company starting with T, which cost me $1,500 to get out of that contract to jump to Vodafail :(
7 Jan 2011 09:55:34 AM: You should try the other company starting the "T"

Sounds like the standard set of problems.
Have to restart mobile to get network coverage after large periods of no connection. Lots of network busy messages, lots of calls going straight to message bank.
Phone support abysmal, having some better luck with email contact although a lot of hoops to jump through. Their coverage maps are very much a marketing tool rather than an engineering resource. Have found out that the center of Sydney is actually listed as "on the fringe of an outdoor coverage area only" within their internal systems.
About to initiate contact with TIO if my last email is not successful.

I own an independent mobile dealership on the Coffs Coast. We have had over 80
Vodafone customers come into my store to complain about coverage issues in the last two weeks. The 3G coverage has deteriorated rapidly so much so that the limited areas that mobile broadband devices would work are now not connecting or dropping out repeatedly. The Vodafone coverage maps are vastly overstated in their reach and capacity.
9 Jan 2011 06:13:14 AM: The coverage maps show Coffs Harbour in the 900MHz regional zone.

Maybe they should train up you hicks.

For 2 months now I have had to switch my phone to 2G as this is the only way it will work. A Vodafone representative said he would call me the next day to let me know when I could turn my 3G back on, I'm still waiting for that call.....and when I have turned my 3G on just for fun I get the drop out calls and no internet.
I'm also currently on the phone to Vodafone (1hr 17 mins and counting) to try and get them to reverse the charges on my internet USB stick thing as I have not been able to use use it properly for 3 months. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but if they cannot hold their end of the bargain then why should I hold up mine by paying it??

I live on the mid north coast NSW. I can make outgoing calls on average once every five times. Constantly getting a 3 tone beep and handset says network disconnected. SO FAIL. Its a pain in the rectum. TO add to the pain you have to call a Mumbai call centre and sit on hold for an hour to get some mumbling idiot that can't do a damn thing for you. So then ya go the Vodafail shop where you bought the phone and they do not want to know you and refer you to call customer service (mumbai mumblers).
Two thumbs down vodafone.

11027 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is ONGOING SERVICE ISSUES at 7 Jan 2011 08:33:02 AM
I use my iPhone as a business tool! Vodaphone has proven to be the worst mobile service I have ever used particularly in the last 3 months. Calls constantly drop out, the data is weak and not always available and basically I do not get the service I am paying for. I sometimes have to call back the person I am conversing with up to 10 times to finish a converstaion and in the end just give up.

Sometimes, calls go straight to my voicemail even though full signal strength is showing on the phone screen.

Sometimes I dont receive voicemails for hours or even days later. One time my messages didn't arrive for at least 4 days late and I received 6 messages in one go.

I want OUT ASAP and I should be refunded my monthly fee for at least the last 3 months.

11024 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is FINALLY GOT THROUGH at 7 Jan 2011 08:24:22 AM
OK I finally got through to vodafone and requested my handset be unlocked. I was told I had to pay $75 for this. I have been with vodafone for 78 months and I have paid them enough! They say they are very aware of this site, and that all you other people have been contacted to "resolve the issue". Is this the truth here? I bet not. Apparently he said if you post your mobile number on here, they will contact you. I am a bit uncomfortable posting my mobile number on here and Im sure Im not the only one. They want to resolve my problem, then unlock the handset without charge! I've paid Vodafone enough over the last 78 months, I should not have to pay this as well. THAT would be the ultime sign of "goodwill" from a telecommunications network! Another issue is the accents. Even the supervisors, I said "Im sorry it is very hard to understand you" to which I got a reply "I am also human even if I am not in Australia". ARGH!!!!
7 Jan 2011 08:28:28 AM: They credited my account with $50. Wow, a lot of use that will be when it can't be used as it should. They are just scared, I told him I wanted to move to optus, and he knew I meant it!
7 Jan 2011 08:58:18 AM: I find it extraordinary that the VF operator asked you to post your number on a public website so they could contact you and "resolve the issue". That is just pure bollocks, certainly not custromer service.
7 Jan 2011 10:19:14 AM: I was told to do the same thing or to give them my email address so that "someone could contact me". I gave them my email address (had to repeat it 15 times until they got it right and yet still haven't heard anything - WHAT A SURPRISE!!!!
7 Jan 2011 04:53:18 PM: I was charged $50 to unlock my iPhone from overseas and I've been with vodafone for 6 years and have paid them thousands of dollars. They're bloodsucking money grabbers.

11020 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Three Is Crap at 7 Jan 2011 07:29:43 AM
Since April 2010, four months after signing with Three (and three months after Three and Vodafone joined), I am lucky to get connection. Even when I have full connection, I am lucky to be able to make or receive calls, even connect to anything. OMG 9 months and its gotten worse.

Before that, I had perfect connection except at home (which I knew would be the case when I took on the service). In the last three months, I have seen my service go down, down, down. From full service on the train line in Sydney to four bar to three bar to two bar to one bar. NOW, I am lucky to get roaming in the inner city area.

I've spoken with Three, their comment - Its your phone! WELL, I went into Apple today to have it tested, guess what, there is nothing at all wrong! All I wish these telecommunication industry providers would do is take responsibility. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA its like asking a rock to move. Talking to India is another impossible situation. They have noooooo idea. If you talk to them, be assert and advise them that you will only talk to the Australian call centre (yes, they do have them!).

Anyways, I am not trying to get my service with Three cancelled. Wish me luck! Its going to be painful.!

11019 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is horrible at 7 Jan 2011 07:13:43 AM
QUESTION??? I complained in december (the 26th i believe) about handset and network issues. Since lodging the complaint Vodafone have replied asking for bits of information (i.e. date and times of dropped calls) and admitted that the network in my area (southern sydney ) has failed. Despite this admission they wont reply to me with a solution, the last two emails have simply been them asking the same information over and over i.e. requesting my pin number (which they have asked for three times - you can see it in the reply history of the email) and asking about fault information which they already have. Has any one else had this? At what point do you go to the Ombudsman??
7 Jan 2011 07:16:18 AM: Go to the Ombudsman now and lodge a complaint. Once vodafone sees a complaint from the TIO they will actually start trying to resolve your issue because if they don't they get fined.
7 Jan 2011 07:19:37 AM: cheers, sick of the run around - just want the service i pay for.
7 Jan 2011 04:57:35 PM: I went to the ombudsman today because I went into a vodafone store the check when my plan ran out so I could move to telstra, and she tells me that vodafone have added an extra 3 months to my plan without telling me and I can't get out until April but couldn't tell me why. Phoned the ombudsman straight away and they're now investigatng it. Call them as soon as you can and lodge a complaint they are really good.

11017 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Customer Service & Coverage.. at 7 Jan 2011 06:42:28 AM
I signed a contract with Vodafone on 5th December 2010, with the new Nokia N8.Before signing I asked the girl who served me if I could get coverage in my area. She showed me a map that said my area had good coverage so I went ahead and signed. Within hours of having my phone I realised that the coveage wasn't that good inside my house, but was reasonable outside. So, I didn't complain. Until, the Nokia started turning itself off and was getting harder and harder to turn back on...On the 22nd day after I had the phone I could not turn it on at all. I went to my local Vodafone shop and was told the only option I had was to send my phone away for repair or if unable to repair it would be replaced... This process could take up to 6 weeks.... I offered a "loan phone" while my phone was away. I asked if I would still have access to my social networks on the "loan phone" and was told, they only lent out simple phones,so probably not. Even though my contract included free access to social... The girl then proceeded to get out a Blackberry Storm... Hmmmm, real simple phone hey?? My next questions were obviously too difficult for her to answer so I ended up talking to the "manager".. He seemed more interested in the computer in front of him than answering my questions. I took the Blackberry home feeling really annoyed that the staff we totally not interested in my problems. So, I called and made a complaint against the store manager and one of the staff for their lack of knowledge and nil car factor for my problem.. The Blackberry wouldn't turn on till the next morning after a full nights charge. When it did turn on I was unable to make or receive calls on it as it would cut out and disconnect every single time. It was in SOS mode most of the time.... Not only this, but the Blackberry was full of all the previous persons emails, contacts, sms's, & photos. Disgusting!! After 2 days of his phone I tried calling customer care, was kept on hold for 22 minutes, then the phone disconnected. GREAT!! Tried calling every store in my region but not one answered their phone.. Decided I have to sort this out, so got the kids in the car and headed to my nearest store. Fantastic, the same manager and staff were working and they remembered me...I'm sue of it. I tell them, this phone is useless to me. "Do you want a different one?" the manager asks. "No, I want to cancel my contract, I was told I can do so if I don't get coverage as I can't be charged for a service I'm not receiving"... "We can't cancel in store, you'll have to call customer service." says the manager.. " I would call customer service, but it keeps disconnecting, can you call them from your in store phone for me?" I say. " NO, our phones are down today, you can use a pay phone"........ARE YOU JOKING, A 1300 NUMBER FROM A PAYPHONE, YEAH RIGHT!!!! I'd had enough. I needed a reliable phone. So, I went straight to Optus and signed a new contract, ported my number over and received FANTASTIC service and couldn't be happier with the coverage. I was also informed there that Nokia have a 30 day replacement guarantee on all their phones if they have a manufacturers fault.....VODAFONE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THAT OBVIOUSLY! Not that you would expect them to, they don't seem to know much at all!! Now, I hve called customer Care from my new phone that doesn't cut out. After 17 minutes on hold I spoke to a women who I could barely understand her english. She wanted to put me through to tecnical assistance or something. I told her it was too late, I had already ported my number, now I wanted her to cancel my contract. She had to speak to her supervisor who was on another call at that moment. How convenient. I was told I would get a call back within 2 hours. That was 24 hours ago!!!!!! Sorry for the long spiel, but i'm so annoyed. Will keep updating on my progress.
7 Jan 2011 07:42:33 AM: Wow I used to work for a telco and I find that service just simply unbelievably to understand. EVERYONE who works in ANY telco would know that Nokia has a 30 day early life failure policy, so if you can see the fault you get a new one straight away. If not you could take it direct to the Nokia service centre or the Vodafone centre both in NSW and have it replaced or repaired in 1/2 hours.
There was actually a KNOWN issue with the first release of Nokia N8s. ALL of them would FAIL after the first change - ie. not turn back on. The staff there should have definitely known about this issue and replaced the phone immediately.
It frustrates me when I worked so hard in this industry for 5 years to do the right then then I hear bad stories like this - depressing.
7 Jan 2011 08:53:00 AM: That is a terrible experience you were put through. You must have been frantic with frustration. I have had the same sort of bad experience with VF staff. Maybe they have a really high staff turnover and the newbies just do not seem to know their product, or just do not care?
What is it about the Telco industry that they cannot seem to get their collective business act together ????

11015 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 1555 at 7 Jan 2011 06:41:18 AM
adding to my previous gripe about "costing me jobs", now I cannot even speak to customer support. All I get is "Hello, this is Punjabi, how can I help you?", then when I speak, nothing. A few seconds later I hear "There is too much background noise, please call us from a quieter location, thankyou." All this time I am sitting in my lounge room in perfect silence. Problem - NOT at my end. STOP with the outsourcing Vodafone, this obvious greed is impacting on your customers. "Lara" sounds clear, but nothing else does .... hmm how convenient! If the CEO of Vodafone reads this, you are about to lose a 12 year customer. FIX the issues at postcode 2213. PATHETIC!!

11010 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is COST ME JOBS at 7 Jan 2011 05:59:36 AM
VODAFAIL is so pathetic! Their reception issues have cost me jobs. I ring prospective employers and all they can hear is static and then only to be disconnected. Are Vodafail going to pay my rent and bills and stock my fridge? I think not. I have been with vodafone 12 years now, but since they outsourced to overseas their service has become pitiful. How many more jobs is this useless excuse of a "service" going to cost me. Vodafone, please explain to my kids why they are going without because you morons cannot do your jobs!!!
