26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

AUSSIES GET SCREWED BY ALL THE TELCO'S.

We are reaping what we sowed. All the telco's are rubbish because they throw money at the government come election time and we all tolerate it. Just came back from a business trip to China and got full broadband coverage even when i was three days travel away from Beijing. Go three days west from Sydney and see your coverage. THE MORE YOU TRAVEL YOU LEARN WE ARE THE NEW THIRD WORLD - GET USE TO IT.
28 Dec 2010 09:38:12 PM: Your spot on. Im in Parkes (a day from Syd) i don't get coverage.
28 Dec 2010 09:38:45 PM: THE MORE YOU TRAVEL YOU LEARN WE ARE THE NEW THIRD WORLD - GET USE TO IT.

Aint that the truth!
28 Dec 2010 09:41:32 PM: Your spot on. Im in Parkes (a day from Syd) i don't get coverage.
28 Dec 2010 09:50:44 PM: Agree with the third world comment especially for middle class. We all think were in the lucky country but its the biggest lie ever concocted by the media. Yeah i know we dont have dirty drinking water, monkeys with rabies chasing us in the street and no ones raided my house with an AK47 this week (Fortunately dont live in Lakemba)but our lives are crap. Look around - the banks own us as we pay of properties which are over valued, our youth suicide rate is crazy, our kids are drinking themselves to oblivion and our government just takes takes takes and can't even build a bloody road.

What is the purpose of doing this?what we going to achieve?how much pain you got?you have collapsed vodafone.you have done a great job.now your satisfied still got pain?
28 Dec 2010 09:36:48 PM: This is not about collapsing Vodafone, This is about Vodafone providing a service that we pay for. Currently they are not providing that service so they should either stop charging customers, or let customers out of their contracts. It is pointless having a contract to a network that DOESN't work.

I've been a customer of Vodafone for 14 years and worked for Vodafone between 1996 and 2000. I was responsible for running everything online for Vodafone at the time, including the Internet proxy hierarchy and their web presence.
It looks like Vodafone have deteriorated a litle since then - how can I help? You know the number - give me a call and I'll try and help fix your problems.

7781 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is As poor as Aussie cricketers at 28 Dec 2010 09:16:40 PM
I cannot make any calls from home with my Vodafone sim because there is absolutely no reception. I have to drive 1km each time I want to make a call. I had no such problems with Optus.
It is apt that Vodafone sponsors Aussie cricket. And just like them - they promise a lot but deliver nothing

7776 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Not Happy at 28 Dec 2010 09:13:40 PM
I had been a Vodafone pre-paid customer up until 4 months ago, when I decided to go on a contract with them for the new iPhone.
Up until recently, I always valued Vodafone as my provider. However in the process of changing over to contract I was confronted with the worst customer service I have ever recieved from any place I have ever been. I was promised delivery in 2 weeks, and after 4 weeks it still hadnt arrived. Each time I called (after 1 hour in a queue) I got the response that 'I would recieve mine in the next batch that was to come in stock.. I ended up asking to speak to a manger which in turn got my phone delievered within 2 days and also had a credit applied to my account for the delay.
Since being on contract, I have had poor reception in places where I used to have full reception, my voicemail messages are always delayed, and the internet connection is extremely slow.

Vodafone have excellent deals and all my friends and family are with them, so we take advantage of the free Vodafone to Vodafone talk. however if it was not for that, I would definitely have changed providers.

I expect to recieve what I pay for!

7775 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EXTREME FAIL at 28 Dec 2010 09:12:39 PM
I've been getting constant call drop outs and sometimes can't even get through at all. There's been some text messages that never even got to the recipient, and I thought they were just being rude and not responding! So I went to my local vodafone shop to ask the guys there (because it's almost impossible to get through to the customer service hotline). At first they blamed my iphone 4 saying these things are notorious for reception issues so I'd just have to put up with it! But I showed them the case I had on it so it shouldn't be having reception issues due to the phone so they changed their story and told me that vodafone was upgrading the local tower. Then I posted on facebook to see if others on the same network had the same issues and found loads of others thought the vodafone network service was crap too! And to think I bought the vodafone shop guy's BS story about them upgrading their towers!

Turramurra is a massive reception black spot from the train station to the surrounding area and the Pacific Highway.

3G drops in and out practically everywhere.

The one place I get great reception is while in the Epping-Chatswood tunnel.
28 Dec 2010 09:05:29 PM: Oh also, I have to force my phone to stay on GSM to ensure I can even maintain a signal so I can receive calls instead of it going straight to voice-mail because of unreliable 3G.

I read it somewhere else here but to reinforce it DON'T BELIEVE Vodafone staff if they offer you free credits. Its a lie, you will NEVER see the credits. It's a quick way for them to shut you up and stop you complaining and most people get too busy and simply forget to check their bill / automatic payments. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!

7736 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is horrible at 28 Dec 2010 08:45:22 PM
Long story short... Joined Vodafail five years ago and they were good at the time (as long as i stayed in the CBD of Sydney). Two year ago they upgraded me to a Blackberry and it all fell apart. No coverage, late texts, no 3G, no email service, a warranty repair, three attempts to return handset only to be told they wouldn't accept. I live forty minutes from Sydney CBD and apparently have full coverage in my area, it eventually got to the point where my work gave me a Telstra phone (ironically another blackberry) and this solved all my problems. After seeing the news story about this website i rang Vodafone and complained, they gave me $79 credit and asked me to renew my contract. I'm still laughing at their balls to ask me that. I'm switching to prepaid with any other carrier i can find. Teach them a lesson and take your money else where.

7718 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Irritatingly unreliable at 28 Dec 2010 08:33:46 PM
I have a Vodafone USB "broadband" modem. Service was generally ok up to about September 2010. From then, frequent dropouts began to occur. It became totally unacceptable by December. Dropouts resulted in internet bank transactions failing - you are uncertain if the transaction was valid or not. Dropouts caused my internet bank account to be locked out as I attempted to login while there were dropouts (unknown to me until I checked my ping log). I also use my ISP access to talk over Skype and to assist computer users via remote control. This became completely impossible in December due to the frequent dropouts which lasted anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes.

28 Dec 2010 09:41:27 PM: I get this message a lot. I know the number I am calling is available. Even tried calling my Dad while standing next to him and got this message. When he calls me it goes straight to message bank. Doesn't even ring. Then they charge me to collect the message.

We are visiting australia for 5 days. Bought a sim card. First told it would take 4 hours to activate. Then 12 hours. And after 12 hours was just advised it will be another 12 to 24 hours due to a system problem, whatever that means.

They should stop selling these if they can't activate.

Now we're told we can get a refund for the $29 prepaid call but not the $2 for the sim card.

Useless for any travellers.

Vodafone used to send reminder txt when time on pre-pay ending to make further payment. Doesn't happen anymore. Have missed a couple of payments and have lost all $ and call credits. Last November forgot to pay within the 60 days and Vodafone cancelled all credits and then made unauthorised payment from my credit card for $100 the next day, have been unable to make contact with Vodafone to make complaint. On the day that Julia Gillard became Prime Minister I spent 2 hours on hold trying to get through on a land line as I had no mobile reception. I am a real estate agent so having no phone means I can't make money. Since the start of December my phone reception has been dropping out but 2 weeks ago I spent 2 days with no phone reception at all, the worst thing was it took me a day to realise my phone wasn't on, it looked on and was on, just no calls getting through. Then my grandma took ill and had days to live and I found out 24hrs later as I wasn't getting any calls, not even texts. Now if I send a text i get 2 and every 2nd text sent out seems to work. I would have to say I have the same usual problems as everyone else. What upsets me the most is the complete lack of help/information from voda. I have been into Voda store when nearly the entire central coast of NSW had no 3G service and all they could say was turn 3G off. Even store staff weren't told if there was a problem or when it would be fixed. Problems still persist with network and I have had several of my friends successfully void there contracts but I can not find the continual time and patience to fight them. After almost 13 years and countless issues I had had enough. I called them when I got home to lodge a complaint & cancel my contract, only to be told my call could not be taken. I had to call again and again to finally get through to leave my phone number for them to call me back. After an hour and a half they finally returned my call. I stood my ground, telling them I wanted to cancel my contract immediately. I refused to pay any penalties even though I still had 7 months left under contract. After 13 years the least they could do was give me my freedom.
I have to admit that up until 2 years ago I was happy enough with the service to overlook the reception issues. I'm now with iPrimus and can't tell you how good it is to talk to someone in Australia whenever I need service. I'll never use Vodafone again!

7622 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Vodaphone & 3 = fail at 28 Dec 2010 07:43:50 PM
Well I was a 3 customer & was with them for Over 6 years and in that time I never had an issue..! When 3 merged with vodaphone I started to notice that I had minimal reception, constantly my phone was "searching" or had this little circle at the top or it was roaming and I was paying for when it went to roaming, 90% of my phone calls dropped out & in my new contract I was paying and extra $10 a month to get 2gb of data and guess what? In the 6 months I had my new contract I only used 2 gb because I couldn't get any sort of signal apart from when it was roaming..! I got so angry because I was paying for a service they could not even provide me with.!
I'm now with telstra, never ever thought I would go to them but I'm getting what I'm paying for..!

7620 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is massive battlers at 28 Dec 2010 07:43:17 PM
The reception around the Rhodes/Concord/Cabarita area is GHETTO. Calls always drop out and messages wont send. What kills me most is i will receive a message and try to reply strait away, but MSG FAIL. Im always turning my phone onto airplane mode and back onto 3g again and things kickstart. Has happened with both iPhone 3GS and HTC Nexus one.

MMS take soooo long to send, and sometimes people receive them 5-10 hrs later. WTF?!? 3G data...its a lottery! Sometimes its super fast and sometimes there is nothing. Voda are such battlers.

Now Telstra is more competitive on pricing i want to switch yo!

My wife and I have our personal mobiles with Voda, I also have a Business mobile with Telstra. We poor to no signal for Voda and max signal with Telstra. When I signed up with Voda, the salespersons stressed they are doing a lot of work to improve coverage and quality of service as I had concerns due to having been a current customer. Sounds like poor information or an total breech of contract. We've seen no improvement.

7597 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Getting worse at 28 Dec 2010 07:26:42 PM
Have been with Vodafone for 10 years now, and there service in the last 2 years has been shocking. Calls constantly dropping out, text messages being received 24hrs later, mobile signal forever bouncing around and more often than not having no signal at all.
The first time I called Vodafone about the delayed text messages, the man told me to send a message to myself (which I did and this worked ok), so therefore it was not a Vodafone problem. Rubbish.
I then called again about the calls constantly dropping out and lady told me it could just be a faulty sim card, so go to a store and get replacement. Haha...made no difference at all, calls continue to drop out even with new sim card.
The most frustrating part of all is Vodafone not being honest and saying that their mobile service is not work properly. Don't waste my time making up stories and giving me the run around.

Today I am unable to receive or make phone calls AT ALL from the Waterloo 2017 area. Texts take several attempts before they are successfully sent. I have experienced all of the problems everybody else has been experiencing over the last several months, and I have continually given VF the benefit of the doubt, expecting them to fix the issues, as they continually promise, because I have been such a long term customer. Today I had to get in the car and drive to another suburb to call their customer service line. Unfortunately my battery expired before they answered.

I would suggest they withdrawer advertising to attract new customers to an obviously failing network, and spend those dollars on fixing the problems once and for all.

FAR TOO LATE FOR ME THOUGH. GOODBYE VODAFONE

Quite worried as I signed up about 6 months ago and am now faced with moving to the central west of NSW for work. having driven the road I will be travelling for 100 k's each way there are only a few small pockets of reception on the main road between Parkes & Dubbo. You don't even have to travel 500 meters out of Dubbo to loose reception. Currently driving 10 k's along the M5 from Ingleburn to Campbelltown I loose reception twice when calling resulting me having to recall. these guys really know how to make their flagfall quota.

No Internet connection either on my iphone or broadband, with numerous calls to vodofone overseas and a total of 5 wasted hours on to people who have no idea of whats going on, have actually come up with the problem is they are upgrading their tower and the problem should be fixed, well thats a joke as ever 3 months the same things happen, no internet connection, voicemail come thru a day after it was left, calls dropping out, etc. There other solution was to go and purchase a wi-fi signal booster (ha what the hell is that) its funny how unfortunately I have been with Vodafone for approx. 12 years (Yes Im a fool) that they now tell me the area where I live hasnt got a strong signal, they couldnt or wouldnt tell me that when I signed a new contract. Well counting down the days till my contact expires then over to Optus or Telstra.

That means my clients have to leave messages for me, then when i get a few bars of reception i then have to call them back..... That cost me money! I am stuck in this contract until September 2011. I have been told by Vodafone that they are improving signals now for over 12 months and still nothing has changed. I've given up trying to call and complain because i can never tell "LARA" what exactly i want and i always get put onto the wrong department anyway. I cant wait until September 2011, i will be dropping Vodafone like a hot potato. In the last 12 months many of my friends have told me that they are looking at updating their phones and every time my advise to them has been... 7510 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EXTREMELY at 28 Dec 2010 06:48:52 PM
So, living in Parramatta (only 3o mins from the Sydney CBD) i would have thought that reception and service would go hand in hand and that both would be exceptional, being that i live in the biggest city in Australia, oh how wrong ive been! Since commencing with Vodafone (after Optus screwed me over) i was assured that Vodafone was the company that could provide me with a great plan with generous limit ($139 unlimited cap) and outstanding service and reception. How wrong i have been! I signed a 24month contract (standard for the Telco industry) and have rued the day i contacted Vodafone. Since day 1, April 2010, i have never been able to use voicemail, even though i have been assured that it has been activated on my phone, which was great when i was in a dead end job and looking for another one! No voicemail, meant i had to continually call back numbers i didnt know! On top of this, my actual reception has been nothing short of sub standard. When i have 3G, i still may only have 2 or 3 bars of reception! I have contacted Vodafone on numerous occassions and have been assured that there was a "know issue in Sydney and it will be fixed shortly". So this must be a massive issue if its still persisting! As an avid iPhone user i have a large number of apps, which i use most daily, and yet being that reception is low or non-existent they take forever to load. Again i have contacted Vodafone and was told "theres no issues in your area, it must be you. There is no problem with out network". Well thanks for that India, but im sure that constantly resetting my phone and wanting to launch it off my sixth floor balcony means that there is an issue, but thanks anyway. So, this was after waiting on hold for 45mins! Then i was transferred from the technical team to the sales department. This time the young girl i got was actually able to speak english and actually understood what my problem was. Halelujah i thought, but when i asked if i could upgrade i was told that this was not possible as i was in a contract! So yeh, fun! Again i was told there was nothing wrong with the network or my phone, but if i felt the need i could purchase another handset! Yeh right!!! So, all care and no responsibility! I pay for a service that im really not getting. How is it Vodafone can afford to sponser the cricket (and the Australian teams performance is just as dismal as the Vodafone network) but can't fix the network that their millions of customers are forced to pay for. Service....i dont think they know what that word means!!! So, after many calls to Vodafone and nil result and still the poor service and reception im glad that finally the consumer has a way of being able to vent about what we are being forced to pay for! Im sure if i didnt pay by bill on time, Vodafone would be pretty quick to take action and disconnect my service!

I got a new nokia n8 offline on a contract,
a week after i got it it crapped itself,
Tried ringing vodafone for 8 days before i finally got through and when i got through they kept re directing me and telling me to ring other numbers which was a joke,
They should have call centers in australia where you can talk to people who understand you,
Anyway after 8 days they told me to just take the phone to a vodafone shop which was 30 minutes away from me and i didn't have time to do this but i eventually did anyway after over 2weeks of a broken phone i finally got a new one replaced,
They are still trying to charge me for calls and stuff for the month even know i was without the phone for 2 weeks
Communications and service is pathetic need people to speak and understand English and not have to wait over an hour on the phone,
I have been with vodafone for 15 years but i think its about time i changed to a decent network,

7434 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Unreliable at 28 Dec 2010 06:31:39 PM
I am in the Parramatta area and very poor network coverage. I was told by customer support that there are too many customers in my area hence difficult to connect to the network.
My iPhone has 1GB of data plan but I am unable to make use of it because get charged for roaming even when I am at home. To get credit for this incorrect roaming changes I must watch my phone signal and when I see roaming I must immediately stop using the phone and call customer support. Not worth the trouble using this service.

My pre-paid mobile broadband when connected is slower than a 28K modem.

7433 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is ABSOLUTE FAIL at 28 Dec 2010 06:31:16 PM
Sitting here on my lounge on the top floor of a unit block with no other taller buildings around me & I am not far from the centre of Sydney and only have 1 bar on my iphone & only 3 bars on my laptop (have mobile broadband as well). Tried to change plans two months ago - said everything was okay and was now on the cheaper plan. Got my next bill and found that I wasn't changed over. I rang on the 1555 number and after getting fobbed off to numerous departments they told that there was nothing on my file to say that I wanted to change. Was disputing the account. Awoke on Christmas Eve to find that they had disconnected my service and that I would have to pay the entire account including the amount that is not yet due before they would reconnect me. As I have no landline at home I didn't have a choice. I've paid for the service - NOW PROVIDE ONE!!!!!

7423 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is vodafone sux at 28 Dec 2010 06:28:38 PM
I was told at connection that i would have good reception for wireless broadband,. How wrong! Even trying to get onto this website it dropped out 5 times. Sometimes it can take up to 3 hours just to get a proper connection. Too bad i am in a contract and cannot afford to leave it. I had better service with the old dialup. Vodafone sux.

7419 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme at 28 Dec 2010 06:28:29 PM
Loss of business. Sending texts twice when only sent once or texts not even getting thru and not saying that they have not sent. so messages are going somewere just dont know were. Extreme holding times to talk to a customer service person. Not able to access the internet thru an iphone when away from wi fi at home. Getting cut off in the middle of conversations or line goes blank when talking on the phone and takes a very long time to cut itself out or just keeps the timer rolling if i dont manually end call. Found that my husband has an online account in his name and he has never set one up, tried to access it but the birthdate is wrong for the password to access it, tried to ring vodafone to find out what it was about and cant get thru to anyone to even inquire. went to a vodafone store today they couldnt give us any info because there system is down yet again. so sick of this. I have been a customer with vodafone for 11 years and it breaks my heart to switch to telstra but they have just pushed it too far. everytime we ring we get rude people its just not on.
