26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

242 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Consistently consistent at 17 Dec 2010 02:14:19 PM
From the beginning anything that could go wrong has gone wrong with my vodafone experience. Transferring over from 3 (and by the way they are the same company now) my phone number disappeared into the ether for 5 days and I had no connection... Spent a couple of days on the phone to various people in Mumbai and got nowhere. Thank god I have a friend who works at Vodafone, I forwarded the issue to her and someone ported the number ported over as a favour... Then next, of course the internet connection didn't work either... another 2 days of calls to Mumbai... nothing... they are so painful.. spend 2 hours on the phone "i'll just transfer you to someone sir then...." beep beep beep (disconnection. go back to beginning). Similarly the only way I got it sorted out was to ask my friend again to call in some favours at Vodafone. Which takes me up to today.. Of course the MMS facility doesn't work either on my phone... I just can't muster the strength to call the centres again to go through the pain. I've been into the shop to ask them and they can't fix it. In a way I have resigned myself to the fact that I won't have MMS. In summary this company really needs to get its act together or they will go under.

240 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Drop Outs, network busy, no service, no data, message bank delays . at 17 Dec 2010 02:13:50 PM
Our company had noticed this since early this year. Bought it to the attention of our account manager, emails, reports etc etc. In denial, met up with the Vodafone Dealer Owner who we went through, told us that to get out of contract in March 2011, had to pay $2k. Don't think we will be paying the $2k, I think we can call it compensation. We even got Telstra sims, as an emergency backup.

Vodaf&%^%gfone!! Poor service and reception pretty much all over sydney, from mobile phones to 3g data. The data plans are expensive. The install software for the 3g cards was abismal, one couldn't uninstall it from ones machine.
I found trying to navigate the super crap lara system to complain about being over charged or to cancel my contract was extremely bothersome as most times I couldnt get through and when i did i got cut off for holding on to long because i wasn't speaking to the right person. Have since moved on to another network happily.

236 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Major Fail at 17 Dec 2010 02:12:05 PM
I want out of my contract because when talking to someone my service drops out ever 2 mins i end up calling the person back at least 3-5 times per conversation or having to sms that person in order to get a conversation through. Even SMS' take a 5-10 mins to process. this has been happening for 3 months. My sister is also on a vodafone customer, she has been waiting for 3 months for someone to come to her place to see how there is no service available for her, where her husband is with Telstra and has full reception. Makes no sense to us both and we keep getting the run around.

I was out fishing at 1am and my wife was trying to find me. She thought I was ignoring her calls so when I got home I found the front door locked and all my clothes on the driveway. Thanks vodafone! Don't worry she was a bit of a B.I.T.C.H. so I'm not too upset.

232 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Not what you call a telecommunication at 17 Dec 2010 02:10:07 PM
I have been experiencing problems with Vodafone's sms / mms service for the past few months. My msgs were received up to a day late. During this time I had to turn my phone off and on or even resort to making a call, and once I hung up, my msgs would then start coming in.

I complained to Vodafone about this, and my first complaint, Vodafone told me they had been experiencing a network issue in the last few days. However, my delayed sms has been happening for a few months now. They then proceeded to tell me that it was my phone. I told them that I also have another service, on the Vodafone network (my work mobile), and that is also experiencing the same problems. That excuse didn't work, so they told me it was my location. My retort was that I was experiencing this issue at all times of the day at all locations - from my work in Sydney CBD, to home in Sydney's west, and when I am out in metro Sydney. Vodafone still refused to admit they had an issue with their service, but wanted to fix the issue so they did a "master reset" of my account.

This seemed to fix the issue - for a day. After that, my sms / mms were getting delayed again and I had to go back to turning my phone off and on and making calls just to receive my msgs.

I once again called Vodafone, who now decided to say that there was nothing wrong with their network and that it was an issue with the person sending the sms. I told them, so everyone has an issue with their service except for me?!? if that is the case, why do my msgs only start coming in when I turn my phone off and on or make a call? Vodafone then attempted to do some "troubleshooting" and asked me to do all these things which I had previously done everytime I called. When I told them I had already done that earlier, they said i had to do it again, or I wouldn't be "co-operating" with their trouble shooting.

I once again co-operated and fed up with still getting delayed msgs, I called back the next day, only to have them say there was an issue with my SIM card. By this time, I was already frustrated with all the excuses they were using. It was already the last straw so I asked the floor manager to cancel my contract. They would not oblige because they believed there is nothing wrong with the service.

So I took my complaint to the TIO and Vodafone finally agreed to release me from my contract - yet I am still waiting for them to admit they have an issue with their network.

I am now a happy Telstra customer. I have to pay for all my calls and msgs now, because nothing is free on Telstra's plans. But I dont mind one bit, because I'd rather do that than put up with Vodafone's crappy service... not to mention having to deal with the incompetent Lara.

I have subscribed to mobile broadband for 24 months and I received coverage on the Central Coast for about 10 of 23 months. Cant get coverage on the north coast north of Newcastle. To discontinue the service that I don't receive is going to cost $90. Worth every penny.

229 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 17 Dec 2010 02:08:19 PM
I estimate 75% of my calls drop out. Signal strength is poor and my phone regularly displays only one bar (or sometimes no service) even though I live and work within 5 km of the city centre. Data speed is also very poor, web pages freeze in the middle of loading and downloading even one or two e-mails can take minutes. Also regularly swaps out of 3G. I have tried calling their customer service line but gave up waiting. I then lodged a complaint via their website on 26/11 but this has not even been acknowledged.

I try to call customor care - after being on hold for an hour - the call drops out. I have no 3G, 1 bar reception - I cannot access my optusnet emails, every call drops out, MMS does not come through until the next day, I always have to trying 3 or 4 times to make a call, only for it to drop out after 1 minute. This is pathetic.

I've been with vodafone for 10 years on pre-pay and never had a problam - and now that I'm postpay I never stop having problems with them. Their network sucks almost as much as their customer service. The constant drop outs and poor 3g coverage means that I am unable to send texts when I'm in shopping centres.
I would rather be set on fire than have to call them again.
Why do they waste their money hiring people to get on twitter all day and promote stuff? Spend that cash on getting an Australian based call centre again!

220 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Huge Fail at 17 Dec 2010 02:05:01 PM
I had been experiencing network letdown for some time. One day my wife (who is pregnant) called me 22 times. No Calls reported by the phone, and I was in a Good Coverage area, right in the heart of Sydney CBD. Called up Vodafone, it took me 4 hours to reach the right area. All calls go to India, the guy was eating food while speaking to me. He ended up waiving the remaining contract for me as I remained aggressive for him to act or get me someone in Australia. I raised a complain to TIO, and Voda never bothered to call me back within the 10 business days, as advised by TIO. I escalated again through TIO and some Aussie guy (finally) calls me. I gave him a spray for the bad customer and network. He still asked me to pay for the Handset money, which i paid, however the whole experience was bad bad bad. Shame on you Vodafone.

215 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Worst ever at 17 Dec 2010 02:03:47 PM
Firstly my 5 month old Blackberry "woke" one morning and didn't work. I phoned help desk and eventually was told to take it into my Vodafone retailer in Bondi Junction. The store wanted to send it in for repair and said it would take up to 1 month but they did not have a replacement phone to offer me. They claimed they would contact me once they could offer me a replacement phone. Long story short - that never happened and I couldn't find any one at Vodafone or Blackberry to complain to. I phoned another help line and someone from Mumbai/Bangalore?? kept giving me Vodafone addresses in Melbourne even though I explained several times I lived in Inner Sydney. Hopeless!!! Finally took it into a different Vodafone at Eastgardens. They sent Blackberry off for repair and approx 2 weeks later I got a new Blackberry phone back. Since then, almost every call falls out even though I have taken the 3G signal off. The browser absolutely doesn't work - even the smallest request comes back that the file is too large to view.
Who do I complain to - what if we all refuse to pay our bills until they sort out these problems. I have made far more calls on my landline in the past month than ever before - so why should I pay a Vodafone account when almost all calls fail?? I am really fed up about this.

214 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is about and technically advanced as two tin cans and a string at 17 Dec 2010 02:03:38 PM
I am on my second (and last ever) Vodafone plan. The first plan was back when they still had call centres. I can safely say I'd rather talk to a million Mumbai call center people before having to listen to that f-ing Lara again. I swear if I heard her voice in the street I would slap her. At least the other systems will react if you keep saying "operator".
I was dumb enough to move our work phones on to Vodafone which took seven visits to the Broadway store to get the monumentally stupid staff to open one new SIM card.
I am in the middle of Ultimo and I can't get a 3G signal to last more than 3 seconds. I can't get any signal to last more than a minute.
Nigel Dews should be locked in a room and played a continous loop of Lara's incessant dribble until he turns insane.
I will never be signing on to Vodafone again.

I wrote a formal complaint to Vodafone and tried to fax it to the number shown on the complaints page. It took 4 days of getting ring outs and engaged signals before the fax eventually got through. Given the rest of the network is so shit, it shouldn't have suprised me that their ability to receive faxes would be crap as well.

Stop paying your bills until they fix it. If they can't keep up their side of the contract then why should customers have to pay the full price ?

199 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Thieves at 17 Dec 2010 01:59:32 PM
I upgraded one of my mobile phones to a higher cost plan. This was done at Vodafone in Broadway Sydney. The sales person illegally upgraded my second mobile phone without consent or signature and tagged it with direct debit details from first account ( and they included handset insurance). Unfortunately I did not notice this fraud until the end of 24 month contract. I contacted Vodafone for an explanation and they said it was my responsibility to prove I did not sign the second contract. I countered it was their responsibility to prove I did. It seems I was right. They had no proof of second upgrade and offered a refund of only 50% of amount paid over 24 month period. Their reason was that I did not notice the fraud and therefore should be liable for half of it. I took the matter to ombudsman and eventually received full refund. The company knowingly employs people who use fraud to steal your money and then tries to keep half of the gains. This is corporate theft!!! I will never ever ever use Vodafone again and advise anyone considering it to run a million miles. And if you have two mobile phones and any direct debit accounts - check them thoroughly. You cannot trust the employees.

I am getting the same dropped calls, unable to make calls, poor 3g coverage etc that everyone else is getting, despite the fact I work in Sydney CBD and live about 2ks from the City Centre.

On top of that my Vodafail wireless internet on my laptop drops out regularly and often is unable to get 3G coverage. The nice lady at vodafone said it might be because my house has a tin or corrugated iron roof! A TIN ROOF! Surely, if the type of roof I have has any bearing on my ability to use their product it should have been explained BEFORE I signed up to a 24 month contract. Vodaphone sucks balls. For about a week I had no internet connection. I tired to access the internet at different times and different places. I contacted Vodafone Customer Service earlier this week and spoke to a customer service consultant from what I believe was an overseas call centre. They did not inform me of any broader problems on the network, nor concede it was a vodafone problem. They simply sent me the default settings, and suggested it may be a phone issue. Now I understand from the SMH article that others have had similar problems. I finally got web access last night.

After many years as a Vodafone pre-paid customer - and suffering the odd "unannounced" issue with voicemail - I have decided to switch to another carrier following this recent debacle ... moreso since Vodafone continue to claim that no problem exists.

Dropped calls, "No Signal", slow data or no data, inability to make or receive calls, voicemail messages received days later, text messages received hours later, useless customer service.

Vodafone have completely mis-managed the integration of their network with that of "3" - and we the customer are now paying the price!!

I'm just glad that I'm pre-paid so can walk without any problem.

I run a small /business in Macquarie Street. I moved 5 users to Vodafone using IPhone 4's believing that we could use these instead of office phones. We now pay for 5 $99.00 cap plans and excessive land line charges because of the poor or non existent service in our office. We have one remaining Telstra IPhone 4 and perfect reception.

157 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is JUNK at 17 Dec 2010 01:47:30 PM
I'll jump on the bandwagon. I live in Sydney's inner west and have had months of poor call quality, no service, calls dropping out and non-existent internet. This is frustrating and embarrassing. No information or apology has been forthcoming. They are great at texting through useless spam about their deals, yet they are incapable of sending a text to update on their technical progress (or lack thereof).

I'm normally too lazy to complain about this sort of thing; but will go to the effort this time around so that I have a chain of evidence when I want to change plans. Can I invoice vodafone for wasting my time?

I live in Randwick and have absolutely no reception in my unit. I have to stand out on the balcony in a corner to be able to make or receive any calls. I have tried customer support so many times but no one can give any satisfactory answers. This has been gong on for over 12 months. I have an iphone and have tried using a different handset and have exactly the same problem. Can't wait for my contract to end so I can use someone else...

We moved into the lovely suburb of Berowra Heights in the north of Sydney 2 years ago and one of the key checks I did was that we had strong mobile signal - we had all five bars working. Not 6 months later the service suddenly dropped to one bar if I'm lucky. They said they had software issues. Bull. As far I can see, they simply had an expensive booster tower that they didn't want to upgrade. If anyone thinks Telstra is the worst telco on the planet and holding this country back; Vodafone is not far behind.

148 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is not being transparent with its customers at 17 Dec 2010 01:46:02 PM
I've been with Vodafone for several years and switched over to 3G for iPhone data service at the beginning of this year. I've always had problems with voicemail notifications being late - using visual voicemail only highlights the problem (anyone remember when it was down for a few days unannounced?)

The last couple of months have been pretty terrible - in the Sydney CBD I get 'No Service' regularly. I also am unable to connect calls sometimes despite the phone showing full service (iPhone 4). Switching to flight mode and then on again usually resolves (but why should I need to do this?)

Data coverage is patchy at best. Response is sluggish or requests time out - even for simple services like Twitter.

Seriously, Vodafone needs to fix this.

I signed up to a 24 month contract with Vodafone just 6 weeks ago and before signing I specifically asked if there were any issues with their network and they were very quick to assure me that it was performing brilliantly. LIARS!!! I haven't had more than one bar of reception on my phone yet and calls drop out all the bloody time. Sometimes I can't even make a call. I'm pissed off that my new phone doesn't work properly and I'm even more pissed off that you lied to me. If I ran my company that way I'd be out of business in no time. I have joined the ever growing collective of Vodafone anti-brand ambassadors, telling everyone I know how bad you are. Deceive your customers and pay the price!

I live in Glebe, Sydney. For an extended period I had no reception at all within a quite well-defined geographical region taking up most of the suburb. I contacted Vodafone repeatedly, -on my mobile phone from an area where I did have reception- to find out what was going on. They refused to help me beyond telling me to do several things to fix "the problem with my handset" which required me calling back on another phone. After I explained the problem, and the fact that this was a -large- problem BECAUSE I HAVE NO OTHER DAMN PHONE. I perservered like an IDIOT for several weeks. Reception returned, for about a week, and then failed again. At which point, I caved, and switched to Virgin. I highly recommend that course of action for anyone else, even if it does mean paying to have your handset unlocked.

I have been a VODAFONE customer for over 12 years. We (my company) have 12 phones currently on a business plan.

The data service is soooooo slow and yes when you are on a call for a long period of time it drops out even if I am in a good reception area.

ALSO I've had an issue with their MyVodafone website for over 4 years. I have made many attempts to try and fix this problem (even one time I was on the phone with them for over 1 hour) but at the end nothing is solved.

My contract is due on April, 2011.

I WILL NOT RENEW OR SIGN UP ANOTHER NEW CONTRACT WITH THEM EVER AGAIN.

101 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is so so so fail! the worst! at 17 Dec 2010 01:29:12 PM
Like many of you I was a relatively satisfied customer on prepaid. I've been a customer of Vodafone's now for 5 years. In May last year I signed up for a two year contract so I could get an iPhone and was immediately dissatisfied with the network coverage. Isn't 3G supposed to make coverage better?!

Recently the coverage has severely worsened, every call that I make drops out at least once. I can't have professional or other important conversations on my vodafone number because the calls ALWAYS DROP OUT. And I live in Kings Cross in the heart of Sydney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just ridiculous.

Voicemails never appeared on my iPhone on time - regularly appeared several days later. People would get very frustrated with me because I hadn't returned their call when I didn't even realise they'd call. Because Vodafone would also just divert them straight to voicemail, even when I should have had perfect reception in the middle of the city (and it said I had full reception).

Anyway, I've had $10 a month raped out of me since I signed up for insurance. When I needed to claim, I lodged a claim online (in October). They sent me an email with NONE of the details I needed saying someone would contact me in five days. No one ever called. When I finally got around to dropping my phone in to Bondi Junction yesterday the unhelpful salesman said I needed a claim number. When I checked my email at the store, there was no freaking claim number. I showed him this was the only thing they'd ever sent me on the matter. He said I would have to call the claims dept and get it myself before he could help me. I asked, couldn't he just look it up on the system? No, he said, I needed to call them myself from the store phone. Wouldn't take long. I SAT ON HOLD TO VODAFONE FOR TWELVE MINUTES WHILE IN THE VODAFONE SHOP.

Did you know they have a thing called a 'Churn level' or 'Churn number'? I asked another naive looking salesman what it meant while he was logging my phone into their system (mine said 'very low'). He said it's the category they put vodafone customers into based on how likely they are to leave the company. I said to him 'Well, after sitting on hold to vodafone because of your screw up for 10 minutes while in the vodafone shop, maybe you should change mine to extremely high, because come May I'm outta here' and he just laughed.

I'd encourage you all to call vodafone and insist that they change your 'churn number' to extremely high. They don't take people's complaints seriously.

When I had no service all day at the big day out this year (like thousands of other young vodafone customers at homebush) I called and complained a few days later. Vodafone's response? Have 300 free texts. OH THANKS A F**KING LOT, I'M ON A F**KING CAP YOU DOUCHE!
