26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

14996 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Online FAIL at 31 Jan 2011 11:23:44 AM
My Vodaphone - "Registering is simple and should take about three minutes." RUBBISH!! FAIL!!!
I got fed up trying to contact them by phone so decided to give the self-serve on the web a go. I tried to register online for "My Vodaphone" via the web site and guess what? Not once, not twice but three times FAIL! The web site comes back with an "Internal error. Customer service has been notified" message. I might try pigeon next or tin cans and string next. They might be more effective.

I've had a Blackberry with vodafone for the past 2 years and reception had not been an issue at my Wollongong house previous. I've since upgraded to an iPhone 4 and low and behold - no reception! AT all!

I've had someone from customer service try to contact me on a number of occasions but the call drops out every time they try to contact me. Outrageous.
31 Jan 2011 10:45:53 AM: Iphone 4 has a reception problem NOOB everyone knows this fault and yet losers stil keep buying it!!
31 Jan 2011 11:21:04 AM: Agree there are known problems with the iphone and yet the NOOBS and losers at Vodafone keep selling them!!!
31 Jan 2011 03:11:09 PM: I recently got out of 2 vodafone contracts, went to Telstra, got an iphone 4 and calls are clear, internet is fast. Is the problem really the iphone 4 or is it Vodafones failed network?
My moneys on the problem being with vodafone, regardless of the handset

I called vodafone regarding my poor service. Vodafone offerd me one months free however if i still was unhappy with the service I could cancell all fees waived.
One week later I called again to cancell as I still continued to have no service on a regular basis. The new operator i was talking to said that the preivous operator was wrong and what she offerd was impossible. I had asked to speak to the preivous operator. I was then put on hold as they searched for this person. She then came back and informed me that no one in the company know's who that person is therefor cannot be contacted and cannot verify the offer that i was given.

I just got out of my contract with them and as i haven't had proper service with them for over a year i said i didnt want to be charged any fees to get out of my contract which they agreed too, now i have just been hit with a bill that includes cancellation fees, ive been waiting on hold for 25mins for customer service to tell them that im not paying as i wasnt getting the service i paid for, and im still waiting, this absolutely RIDICULOUS!! Vodafail sounds about right to me!!
2 Feb 2011 10:54:24 PM: Long wait times for customer service are common across all Telcos. 25 minutes does not sound out of the ordinary at all. Patience is a virtue. It's not the end of the world. If you don't like wait times, maybe try calling at another time when the line is less congested.

Vodafail drops out constantly, often you cannot recall the number which just dropped out as you then have NO NETWORK CONNECTION. TXT messages are delayed upto a day late. Sometimes you need to turn the phone off and on again to even get the message. Customer service is extreamly poor and excuses are excessive
30 Jan 2011 01:13:41 PM: Check out the Your Coverage tab above to find out exactly what is going on for your postcode.

You may need to think of alternatives.

Please use the On Hold Again? located at the top of the page to record your experience.

I am overseas at the moment, and I have been trying unsuccessfully to retrieve voicemails for a month. I initially thought I had the wrong PIN, but after spending a fortune getting hold of the Customer Service people, it seems I have the right PIN, but still can't access my voicemail, either from my mobile, or remotely on another phone.

14903 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extreamly at 29 Jan 2011 01:59:16 PM
No service for 24 hours, dropped out Friday afternoon of all days! Would get a second of service and I would receive a message that was sent hours before then would drop back out so I couldn't even reply or call. This happened all over town where I usually get full service.

Can not stand Lara!! They send you around in circles when all you want to do is speak to a REAL person!

After moving to a town from a city not realizing that the data would cost more I received an extremely large bill I called one week before it was due asking if I could pay it off $50.00 a week. I was told I must pay $100.00 a week off and if I did not agree to this they would immediately stop all my outgoing calls and messages from that phone call not from the date the bill was due or overdue...you try and do the right thing! I have been with Vodafone for 10 years and have always paid my bills on time and could not help me this once! Not once did he mention that I could change my plan to better suit my new living situation and a few more large bills arrived and lots of tears to customer service workers before a random non-vodafone worker mentioned this to me.

I am counting down the months till my plan is over and I am out of there grasp!
29 Jan 2011 02:25:46 PM: Considering the poor service by vodafail...they are in NO position to dictate to anyone....I advised the Vodafail store at Orion last week....they are at risk of losing their communications licence and if they wish to dictate then we will see who wins....I also informed them I will not pay a cent until they remedy this....btw no interenet so far for 5 days....call cut out to their support....advised no barring in place...
7 Feb 2011 04:34:55 PM: I'm not aware that data is more expensive in different parts of Australia, what's going on?

14885 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is very disappointing at 29 Jan 2011 09:03:14 AM
I connected with Voda in OCT 2009 having worked for a local dealer in the past with no issues as far as reception is concerned. I connected on a $69 iPhone 3GS cap. Since approx OCT 2010 I have experienced a very significant drop in reception that is a result of moving suburbs. Now the suburb I am in is the same area that I previously worked as a Rep for. The degradation of the network was so severe that I was unable to even send a text from my house. So last week I called the CC and complained. They attempted to check the settings on my handset and agreed they were all fine, I then called back on a Saturday (last sat) and put in another complaint, they attempted to fix my issue again however were not able to so they opened an investigation. 5 days later they had not called me so this morning I called and asked on the status of the investigation. They concluded I was in a low coverage area and I could be released from my contract without penalty and would have to pay $150 to keep my handset (after bartering him down from $320). I am very happy with this as my account is in credit by $80 :). I went to telstra and am now the owner of an iPhone 4.
Throughout all this I was polite and calm and only asked that they see my point. I am happy with the Customer Service I received and feel they did actually try to fix the issue but honestly what can they REALLY do when its a network issue. Hope this all helps to all those wanting to leave, all up it took 10 days to be released from my contract on MY terms not thiers.

14883 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is absolute disgrace at 29 Jan 2011 08:43:21 AM
Tried to register pre paid sim. Used LARA service, registered the sim by voice recognition. So far so good. Lara says sim will be active within 30 minutes. Try to recharge an hour later and sim not registered. Lara voice recording says this can take up to 12 hours now due to technical issues. Half a day later I try to recharge, phone sim still not active. Lara transfers me to a customer service rep who takes my details again over the phone. ( Surprisingly did not wait long for a customer service rep ). Rep take down all the details again as given to Lara 14 hours ago and says Lara sometimes does not work. Rep activates the service manually and says to turn off the phone and wait 30 minutes.

I turn on the phone 30 minutes later and go to put funds on the phone. Back to square one - phone still not activated and has taken me back to the initial Lara service wanting to take my details again.

What a joke. They can't even register pre paid sim cards correctly anymore. I am left with a pre paid sim that I still cannot activate after 2 days. Figure if I try registering by the Lara service again the same will occur.

Completely lost, will use prepaid sim from another provider.

14864 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Unlock iphone at 28 Jan 2011 08:56:26 PM
i am a business owner and i do over 60 hours of talk time a month. i am a victim of Lara!!!!. I managed to cancel my contract after speaking to TIO.

after cancelling the contract i have been asked to send the phone back to them, however i realised that this shouldnt be the case as you are paying for the phone part of your plan. I straightaway called back and after another argument the fee was $244 (based that i had 8 month left on my 24 month contract on $99 unlimited cap).
When i asked them to break down the figuire they changed their mind and advised me that my payout fiqure to keep my iphone 3GS 32MB is $46.

Moved to Telsta only to find out my phone is locked. vodafone customer service said to me "sorry for the inconvenience" as it will take 10 working days to unlock my phone and will cost me $25

they are a joke of a company. I have been a 10 year loyal client but will never give vodafail my business ever again.
28 Jan 2011 09:57:17 PM: Get back to the TIO- same file, I think. Will cost Voda more if you open a new one.
29 Jan 2011 04:39:32 PM: You get a free handset on the condition that you sign on for 24 months, if you cancel before the 24 months then of course you have to give it back. A big reason for this or for being asked to pay the remainder of the handset is that many people are trying to use all this bad media for vodafone as a way to cancel their plans just to keep their phone AND sign up again with a new phone.

Also, check the box your phone came in. You will see it marked that there is a unlocking fee.

14861 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Dying a very slow John Mayer death. at 28 Jan 2011 08:14:39 PM
4.30 hours and still counting. If I ever hear John Mayer again I may feel the need to ram my phone up the closest Vodafone Customer rep's vodahole. I mean nearly FIVE hours is totally unacceptable. Imagine if I didn't pay my bill and used the excuse which I've been hearing for close to five hours now "I'm a bit flat out, hang in there, I'll pay it soon" I THINK NOT!! I can't even remember why I am calling them now. Oh that's right, I just need to change my credit card details. The first time I called them was at 4pm, I was put on hold for 41 minutes. I was told that the number I called was not the right number but the kind lady I spoke to kindly removed my credit card details from their system. I was then told to call 1555 (which I thought I had called) or to use the online service to change it. She assured me it would only take a minute to change my details. Because I was away from my computer I decided to call back......
I managed to get to my computer after half an hour and use the online facility. What a freaking joke, myvodafone is currently not working so I had to stay on hold. This is where I have been for the last several hours.
Currently I am dying, I am dying from lack of Friday night activity and listening to the one millionth John Mayer song. I may commit suicide very soon.
So Mr "to win in the marketplace you needed to create a brand that customers feel an emotional connection with; that employees want to do their best work for; and that is widely recognised as a leader for the quality of its products and services and the contribution it makes to society" CEO Vodafone.
Your customer care department sucks arse. It's not their fault, they are only following orders. Perhaps you and your customer service managers should be flipping burgers at Maccas, then again that requires too much responsibility and I personally don't think you're up to it. You would not know customer service (let alone customer care) if it crawled up your arse at night.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH! I am paying for a service I expect service. Not slack "we're flat out at the moment" service.
Vodafone you suck.
28 Jan 2011 10:00:10 PM: You SURE you want to give them your credit card details? Brave.
29 Jan 2011 11:10:26 AM: Well I was so desperate to get my credit that I went to a vodafone store today, it took me 16 mintues from the time it took to get in the car, drive to the shop, purchase credit and drive home. WOW! I dont' think I will be giving them my credit card details now.

Ok I have been on hold 4 times now, each time for no less than 2.5 hours(5 hours was the max only to be hung up on when put on hold), finally was able to log onto myvodafone to check my call data and what do you know every time I try to see more than the last 7 days it disconnects me. They have been charging me for downloads I do not receive and have been charging for V2F calls.
It goes from bad to worse they sent me a email saying "recharge on the 28/1/2011 and get double bonusbank points", so I recharged and as you most probably know no extra bonus points. Been on hold now for 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Has taken well over 13 days and 10 hours on hold just to be able to log into myvodafone, but I still cannot do anything once logged in as they cut me out and I have to log in again. And I have been with VF since day one(loyalty LOL)
And I could go on and on, but hey my broadband speed hit the most ever whilst here now 750kbps YAY so much for 7mbps. Oh and my phone internet connection is that slow it times out between pages.
Thanks for putting this site up

Hubby and I both have iPhones with Vodafone - neither of us has made or received a single call today that has not dropped out. Same for yesterday, and the day before, etc. Huge delays in in MMS messages arriving at their destination, completely unable to access the internet despite having apparently full 3G coverage, received calls going directly to voicemail despite phone being switched on and with apparently full 3G coverage. I think you get the general idea. Multiple attempts at contacting customer service, however our phones keep dropping out prior to completing our calls...

I hate vodphone after they put me in debt 3K ten years ago I vowed never to sign a contract with them again. I have been extremely happy with three for the past 6 years until they have merged with Vodaphone. Since then i have been frustrated by the lack of customer service, staffing problems etc.
I am ready to void my cpntract as I never signed with vodaphone and want nothing to do with cmpany and policies.

14800 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is The Biggest Stinker in the teleco cesspit at 28 Jan 2011 07:42:33 AM
I had an issue with a payment in Feb 2009. I made the payment online via credit card, noted the receipt number etc and it took 6 months for Vodafail to acknowledge / find the payment in their system. I called them several times, had assurances the problem would be fixed but nothing happened. Vodafail even suspended the usage of the 3 phones on the account. I called them numerous times, received verbal guarantees of returning my call and not once did that happen. It was only after I informed Vodafail that I had contacted the Telecommunications Onbudsman. Long story short, it took 6 months for them to finally credit the account and I am still waiting on them calling to inform me that the problem has been fixed... I only found out by seeing the credit on the account. Customer service... what a joke.

I am sick and tired of not being able to connect to the so called Vodafone Mobile Broadband service. I'm so disapointed at the level of customer service being provided. 14778 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor customer service at 27 Jan 2011 07:30:20 PM
Vodafone WAS a great service and over 10 years ago I went with them as the best alternative over the bigger telcos. Ever 12 months for a few years due to my spend I would get a call asking if I would like a new phone, which at the time I was out of contract and didnt have to resign just continue paying bill month to month. Happy days

Flash forward to last few years no longer speaking to those great original call centre employees, sometimes not ever speaking to a person at all....gotta love LARA who will only put you through to an operator if you swear at her. Or calling and being on hold for 50 minutes just for the privlidge of asking for international roaming to be placed on phone.

Sort it out Vodafone...yes I know I can go to other providers but fingers crossed you get your house in order

14758 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is 100% Fail at 27 Jan 2011 02:56:21 PM
So after experiencing constant dropouts, coverage fails and delayed SMS (great for when you're on call and the alerting uses sms...) I decided to call and lodge a second complaint.

Midway through my phone dropped out, the vodafone customer service rep called back, but because of the coverage dropout it went straight to voicemail. So far they are escalating to their network team, however this has been ongoing since I took up a vodafail service.

I am now looking at a second service with a different provider as I cannot use my phone reliably for work which is 100% the reason I purchased a smart phone with data.

I don't use the data service as it never works, I don't sync my email as it never works (works for all other users on non vodafone), I miss alert SMS's and have call dropouts.

Thanks Vodafone for the quality service!

Next stop will be the TIO and asking vodafone to release me from my contract.
30 Jan 2011 02:44:05 PM: i bypassed vodafone due to their pathetic service and went straight to TIO. they are now letting me out of my contact and waving the cancellation fee.

Good luck
3 Feb 2011 01:19:11 PM: Third complaint has now been lodged and am approaching the TIO today.
I have slight amount owing on the handset so will be pushing Vodafail to let me pay that and to waive the cancellation fee.

The service for the last two days has been dismal in the CBD and in the suburbs where I live.

No more patience for this.

My reception is very poor. I have to go outside my house and move around the yard to use my phone, even then it my drop out. I have tried many other phones and they all do the same. If you use another provider the phone can be used inside the house no worries with out drop out.
I have been with Vodafone for about 12yrs this problem just seems to be getting worse over the last couple of years.

The customer service is shocking. If you manage to get past that machine named Lara all you get is "please hold, I'll pass you over to someone else, unfortunately bla bla bla......"your call is valuable to us". yeah right.

Just got a new contract late last year hope they get better or as soon as its up im out.

14743 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor reception at 27 Jan 2011 01:00:43 PM
I joined up with Vodafone last April and have had some issues with delayed voicemail, intermittently. No missed called alert, just a delayed voicemail either hours or sometimes days late.
2 weeks ago, I had a bigger issue. I suddenly had no reception in my house...for 3 days. I could send and receive text messages, though they were delayed and some never arrived, but could no make or receive calls. At this time I tried all the customer service numbers, but as soon as I indicated that I was having technical difficulties or wished to make a complaint, the call was disconnected. This lack of customer service compounded the problem for me,in a huge way. I went into my local Vodafone store and was told,in the nicest possible way, that they could do nothing.
I work in the emergency services and need to be contactable at all times. I don't have a landline as I work shifts and its just easier if I can be contacted on a single number. I missed several calls for overtime that resulted in me losing a lot of money. So not only was I not receiving the service I was paying for, but the company has cost me a lot in missed earnings.
When I could finally get through to the service department and was told that my problem would be looked into.By this time my phone was working inside again, so of course they found there was no problem.
Yesterday, the same thing happened and when I called the technical department (on someone elses phone so it wasn't a free call) I was told to switch over to the 2G network. This seemed to fix the problem, but I'm not really satisfied as I have to keep swapping over when I'm home and if I forget, my phone is out of commission.
All I want is to get out of my contract. I feel that I have upheld my side of the contract by paying my bill, but I am not being provided with the service I'm paying for, so in my opinion Vodafone is in breach of their side of the contract. Of course its not as easy as this, these companies protect themselves with little thought to the lack of service and inconvenience to their customers.

14736 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extremely poor at 27 Jan 2011 12:00:18 PM
I have been consistently experiencing poor data service and drop-out of my voice service (sometimes degraded to SOS service) on various locations along the entire section of the Illawarra line from my home in Engadine into the CBD. I wanted to have my Blackberry Storm unlocked so that I can switch to another provider as soon as my contract expires. The Vodafone store manager at Westfield Miranda who was quite rude, arrogant and unfriendly to my wife and I, told us that he cannot do it and I must go online to have it unlocked. He told us the Blackberry and my wife's Samsung phone would be unlocked for free. When I went online, the Vodafone unlocking site tells me I must pay $25. Either the store manager doesn't know his job, or he was lying to get us out of his shop. I dont expect I will get a response to the email, but hey, I have to try. If this is not resolved in the next week or so, I see little alternative but to join the Vodafone class action suit, and hope that will bring about some real change to Vodafones poor network and customer service.

27 Jan 2011 09:14:50 AM: Escalate your issue to the TIO...Check out the How To Complain link for more information.
27 Jan 2011 09:37:05 AM: Guys, You cant escalate to TIO for anything. the TIO are gonna start getting pissed!. You did the wrong thing by just going ahead and getting a new contract. I mean Yes its a pain how bad the wait times are but you need to try sort out things before you take the leap to another operator. Handset issues are not grounds for contract cancellation. As long as vodafone continue to try and fix your issue with the handset there is nothing they are doing wrong from TIO's perspective. By refusing to pay it all you are achieving is a bad credit rating. Honestly mate your gonna be stuck with this bill now as ill be very surprised if the TIO will help you.
27 Jan 2011 09:43:24 AM: TIO will not get pissed, they are there as a last resort and to try and sort these issues out. He has tried everything with Vodafone, they are unwilling to assist or offer him what they promised, so his next logical step is the TIO.

Give it a go, the worst they can say is there is nothing they can do :)
27 Jan 2011 09:54:08 AM: I cant believe they have not even offered to send it for repair. This is standard process. if you call TIO make sure you tell them they have not offered you a repair. They may not be able to help you out your contract but you will at least be able to get a new phone out of it....which im sure is not really what you want....I suspect you had a Nokia N8? Heard of PLENTY of issues with those babies.
27 Jan 2011 10:04:08 AM: Go to the TIO straight away.
27 Jan 2011 01:03:38 PM: The repair on phones only took effect in Jan 2010, he needs to take it in to nokia to check the N97. I was in the same boat with my N97.

He refused Vodafone's 10% off the bill. That was their help, but was refused, doubt the TIO will help there.
27 Jan 2011 01:32:19 PM: As a customer he has a right to refuse 10% off!!!

Take it to the TIO straight away, the TIO will help.
28 Jan 2011 04:52:54 PM: Actually, unless you want to get some evidence against the TIO, report it to the ACCC.

2 Feb 2011 10:58:45 PM: Pretty much what they said. There are policies in place and unfortunately if you blatantly don't follow them, there's not much you can do. Rules are rules.
5 Feb 2011 08:17:01 PM: Legislation should be changed to ensure that phones are implicitly guaranteed for the term of the contract they are sold for.

Okay here we go. These guys are total tools. Sign up for a contract, says first 6 months are half price. Yeah cool, right. Get the bill and I am charged at the full rate. Now this is where the fun begins. Spend one hour on hold with that Lara saying "Hang in there, we will be with you soon". How damn Soon Lara??????? Then I call them back in the morning, another 30 minutes on hold before I give up. Then I send them a email. Have they responded? No. Now Im pushing about another 30 minutes on hold. FFS Voda, get it together. Heres Lara saying Hang in there, we will be with you really soon. And they want me to get a Mobile phone of them on Contract as well? Idiots, thats the only words I can use to describe them right now. Absolutely appalling customer service to spend this long on hold when there damn sales lines go straight through.
27 Jan 2011 08:45:09 AM: Over the two hour mark on hold now, Lara keeps lying to me saying they will be very soon. Lara obviously has no damn time management skills as well as being a damn liar at the same time
27 Jan 2011 08:50:21 AM: 2 hours is pretty normal for vodafone .... How they can call it customer service is beyond me :(
27 Jan 2011 09:42:02 AM: Yea, I managed to hold on for 2 and a half hours, and guess what happened "Connection Error". I also checked the email that they responded to and they never even read the thing. Just sent a automated response so to speak. Absolute garbage this is. I will be contacting the Telecommunications authority in reference to this.

We have approximately 30 company phones with VF. We have all experienced repeated call dropouts. Calls dropout when a SMS message comes through. Voicemail can come through imediatly or up to a day later. We have found we have poor service coverage in City areas. There are constant inexplicable signal dropouts. Directory service SMS's don't come through and when you ring back you get 2 messages directly?!!
I am working to move our companies phone service away from VF as the overall service is well below unsatisfactory and we have all grown sick and tired of it...

I can't get service in Terrey Hills, Sydney. I have to go outside to get service and it is always "very poor" and drops out frequently which is so annoying especially when trying to pay bills. I cannot wait until Next January when my contract expires and I can find a provider that gives decent coverage and doesn't keep dropping out. The customer service is also abominable and it would be nice to find an agent that knows what is going on instead of being transferred 5 times and have a 2 hour phone call with no results. Lousy, lousy, service!!!!!!

14677 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor customer service at 26 Jan 2011 12:58:53 PM
Half my keypad went kaputt. This meant I couldn't dial the number to most people, or complete a comprehensible SMS. After the usual circus with Lara, her friends in the Philippines, and many other symphonies from the Vodafone and Nokia muzak selections, I took an afternoon off work to visit my local Westfield to activate my "extended warranty" at a Voda shop in person.
Instead of any attempt to help when I explained my phone's plight to the young "gentle"men in the booth, I received in return, a barrage of demands, ranging from personal ID, proof of purchase, proof of contract etc.etc...Ultimately, they issued an ultimatum - NO job number (from Lara's telephone hotline) NO repair......"but she didn't give me one...but they kept putting me on hold.....but the overseas operator wasn't authorised to issue any numbers...." I pleaded. They were adamant, and to get me off their backs, they explained that they were "only" a private contractor for Vodafone. They sell their products, but don't deal with their problems. So my only chance is to go to the Voda shop...which strangely exists in the same shopping mall only 50 metres away????
So I repeated the same performance 2 minutes later, and unsurprisingly the same unhelpful responses and denial of responsibility.
Their first response at this shop was not so much an apology for the inconveniences, but more akin to a threat: "This is gonna cost you $100 just for an inspection...."
"But isn't the extended warranty which I have unfailingly paid for the past 22 months..."
"No!" he cuts me off..."You STILL have to pay the excess"...
"Alright then", I replied and started thinking about joining my wife's new iPhone 4 plan from a rival telco. "Since I only have 2 months left, what's the cost of paying out my contract?"
He became elusive, and started typing madly, hunched over his computer as if trying to hide my own details from me. Never offering me a seat, he finally barked, "If you want a new phone, you renew your contract NOW!"
"Can I get an iPhone?" I queried.
"Yeah, but you'll have to wait 8 weeks till we're re-stocked".
"OK...." I politely retorted as I mused at the thought of keeping my gammy phone for another 8 weeks. "...So what are my plan options?"
He then snapped out a series of options, still sitting there like he was the school principal whilst I stood like a naughty customer. Not once did he offer me one of the vast library of brochures, or pen or paper whilst I tried jotting down the costs on the back of a shopping docket.
The most useful outcome from this exchange was knowing that when I got my iPhone on the spot in a neighbouring phone dealer, my new plan was considerably cheaper than any of the Voda options. My penalty for early termination of contract is consoled by the knowledge of never having to listen to that annoying Lara again........My sympathies to all my Voda victims out there, and the woman who actually provides Lara's voice.
26 Jan 2011 02:29:27 PM: Optus has their call centre in the Philippines, Vodafone's is in Mumbai.
26 Jan 2011 02:34:49 PM: Vodafone has never offered an "extended warranty" as an option.

Since January 2010 all phones Vodafone sell come with 12 months manufacturers warranty and another 12 months Vodafone repair warranty, it's automatic, you don't pay extra for it as long as you still have an Vodafone SIM in it it's 24 months.

The only exception is iPhones where you can pay Apple for an extended warranty and Apple will take care of any issues.
27 Jan 2011 04:58:38 PM: Sounds like insurance was being mixed-up with warranty here. Hard to tell where the confusion started.

In relation to this article, my details and account were also accessed by a Vodafone dealer without my consent which is called Bizfone located in Chatswood, not far from the Vodafone Head Office. (I have many notes on my account which prove this and I actually went to the police station in my local area because I was so concerned about my identity being stolen). Bizfone went into my account and barred one of my Vodafone services for no reason 3 times I found this out at a store as every time a dealer logs onto your account leaves their dealer code there.......every time I would call Vodafone customer service all they would do is make me change my password and this won't do anything anyways as the dealer has access to all my details, after continual complaining to Vodafone they finally put me onto the Director of the company and he states that it was an accident.........an accident hacking into my account and barring my service 3 times, how does that work ???? & Vodafone didn't do anything or care at all about this breach of privacy; once my contact is finished I'll never deal with Vodafone again I can really tell that customer privacy is not a priority for then as to the way they handled my complaint. Not only did one of their dealers access my account without my authorization but when I rang up the first time or second time they still didn't care enough to stop it or do anything about it.
26 Jan 2011 05:30:30 PM: Doesn't this amount to fraud of some description ? Hound the lazy police to actually do some follow up. Keep complaining, if the local cops wont help, contact the police commissioner office.
26 Jan 2011 06:30:57 PM: @ 26 Jan 2011 07:30:30 PM: Probably not fraud......more like stupidity on Vodafone's behalf!!!

I run my own business and need good mobile phone and mobile broadband services.
I am paying for such a service and have been for over 16 months now.
The service for both mobile and mobile broadband have been dreadful in areas where vodafone states the coverage should be good.
My business relys on communication, phone, text, voice messages and email.
With these services dropping out on a regular basis, I'm losing business and wasting valuable time having to go to the library to get a half decent internet connection. How much time can you waste in Sydney chasing your tail with large companies refusing to take responsibility for poor service.
I have a business to run and I'm paying for a pathetic service.
Thanks for taking my hard earned money Vodafone and providing nothing for it.

Been with vodafone for many years. Since July, my partners phone broke and the Vodafone worker said that it was her fault that she had it near an air con vent in the car and it got water damaged (WTF?), and the coverage has been disgraceful. Full service one minute, no service the next. Have missed many phone calls (even tho in full service) and delayed text messages and am sick of putting up with the bulls**t. I've tried calling customer service to which my calls either cut out or am just given that i've reached the wrong department and to try later or during business hours (when i work). We both want out of our contracts!
25 Jan 2011 10:35:35 PM: Check out the 'How To Complain' link at the top of the page, you will no doubt end up going to the TIO, but follow all of the steps along the way. Such as complaining to Vodafone first (keep records of those conversations as the mor info you can provide the TIO, the better you have of getting what you want).

Best Of Luck :)

14649 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Completely Useless at 25 Jan 2011 09:37:01 PM
I had incredibly poor service on 3, and was advised by Vodafone to move across to them to fix this issue. EPIC FAIL. I'm now stuck with an EVEN WORSE service than with 3, and at a higher cost than I was on at 3! ARRRRGH!!!

I primarily use my service for Internet access on my iPhone. I am mostly in the Sydney CBD. Every time I try to use the Internet it either doesn't work at all, or it is so slow it's essentially non-usable! I get 5 bars of reception, so no problem with signal to the tower, but it just doesn't work!! This isn't one, this is ALL THE TIME!
WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE FIXED? HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO PAY FOR A SERVICE THAT DOESN'T EXIST???

I stand next to my friends/colleagues using Telstra and their phones are FLYING to the same websites/services. I do a speed test using a speed test app on the phone and I get somewhere between 12 and 20 kbps download speed (when it works), and they are getting between 4mbps (mega bits) and 8mbps. And they are only paying about $20 more a month for the same type of package!

And try dealing with their offshore customer service. WHAT A COMPLETE JOKE. I REFUSE to call them any longer, their method of operations seems to be (after waiting for 45 mins) "I need to transfer you to another dept", then "beep-beep-beep" as I am hung up on. And then another 45 mins to call back and the SAME THING AGAIN. This happened to me EVERY time I called them.

Now I go into a store (where the Vodafone staff member does the same thing and I sit there for half an hour while he waits in the phone for the offshore call centre). At least the people in the store and nice and helpful, poor bas*ards, I dont know how they put up with it without snapping either. They need stress money working for such a completely incompetent company with such incredibly poor customer service such as Vodafone.

Telstra must be laughing all the way to the bank, they couldn't ask for anything better, they must be getting thousands of customers, everyone I know is switching from Voda to Telstra, and this doesn't cost Telstra a cent.

Surely the Vodafone Managing Director in charge of the Australian region needs to resign. How can he continue to allow false contracts to be sold to customers, this is not a temporary glitch, this is a service that does not work, hasn't worked for months, and is being falsely sold to unsuspecting customers (such as me, even if I did get tricked into moving from 3 to Voda).

25 Jan 2011 10:13:10 PM: LOL i know, Telstra are probably laughing there ass off, they didnt even have to pay for a ad campaign or anything people are just flocking to them becoz of how shit vodafone is xD
26 Jan 2011 02:11:42 PM: Vodafone and the 3 network are now one and the same....Talk about monopolies.

BUT" HELLO VODAFONE THERE IS NOBODY OPEN AT MIDNIGHT OR 11PM AT NIGHT WHEN MY INTERNET CONNECTION GOES ALL HORMONAL!!! NOT EVEN DAMMMM LARA"
BEFORE I PASS OUT WITH A HEART ATTACK ONE DAY TRYING TO DEAL WITH ALL THIS I HAVE JUST DECIDED TO DEAL WITH IT TILL I REGAIN STRENGTH TO BE ABLE TO SORT THE ISSUE OUT AGAIN.... BUT TODAY WAS THE ICING ON THE CAKE!!!
25TH JAN 2011 I DECIDE TO REGISTER ONLINE ON VODAFONE WEBSITE TO TOP UP MY MOBILE PRE PAY THE 365 DAY RECHARGE... FRUSTRATINGLY DOING SO WITH A VERY SLOW CONNECTION I ACTUALLY MANAGE IT BUT HANG ON !!!!! OHHHH TO GOOD TO BE TRUE...
IT WOULD NOT ACCEPT MY MASTERCARD IT SAID I HAD TRIED IT TOO MANY TIMES ... THAT'S VERY STRANGE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!!! ANYWAY IT SAYS CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE SO HERE GOES !! LARA ANSWERS AND AS PER USUAL COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME...
A LADY COMES ON AND I TELL HER THE ISSUE AND SHE SAYS YOU HAVE TO GO TO A VODAFONE STORE I'M SORRY TO TOP UP BECAUSE VODAFONE DOES NOT ACCEPT COMMONWEALTH BANK CARDS CREDIT OR DEBIT THEY DON'T HAVE AN AGREEMENT!!!
WHAT A JOKE ARE YOU SERIOUS THE COMMONWEALTH BANK THIS DAY AND AGE 2011.... GIVE ME A BREAK !!!!

I haven't recharged my phone in about 2 months but was soon to get around to it. This morning at 2am to be exact, I received a text from SYS-ALERT telling me my account would be suspended if I didn't recharge by the end of the day. So, I go out and buy some credit, go to redeem it only to be told that it doesn't fit in with my 'plan'. Outraged, that I had just paid $20 for a non-refundable receipt I try to call customer service to get an enquiry as to what's going on. Yet again, only to find that I won't be able to get help until 8 tomorrow morning. That leaves me 20 bucks out of hand and with a suspended account. Unbelievable Vodafone, you truly fail and anger me. Get your act together!

I was one of the first people to port my mobile number across to Vodafone many many years ago and have remained a loyal customer through numerous contracts for both personal and business use. I have just entered into an agreement for a Samsung Galaxy Tab to pick up my email on the go like everyone else.So far I have missed meetings, not returned calls to clients in a timely fashion because I didn't get their voicemails or follow up emails or text messages. My credibility has gone out the window.I can't be a successful person let alone a easily contactable parent or spouse or family member or friend or boss. Call 1555 Customer Service for a resolution if you have a spare half hour or so to go round in circles with the Lara IVR. BTW ,I have never ever posted a comment on any forum since the commercialisation of the internet, never been in a chat room or subscribed to any social networking site because I didn't believe it would do any good to have a whinge. All that is out the window now , please take this post and if it helps make this Company accountable for their performance to the people of Australia I will have done some good for today.
11 Jan 2012 11:00:28 PM: I now have ported across to Telstra and have not had one call dropout in 2 months and the data speeds is on average 4 times as fast. I feel a great sense of relief that these losers are not f***ing with my life any more !!

I have been with Vodafone for a number of years and have experienced illegitimate phone bills, constant disconnection of phone calls, limited reception and poor assistance from staff.

I spent 40 minutes on hold to speak to a customer service operator, when I told them my problem they then requested to transfer me to someone more appropriate and simply hung up on me. 40 minutes wasted.

There is no point trying to get help from a staff member because their stores are already full of other unhappy customers.

I currently own the Iphone 4 and am instantly regretting extending my phone with Vodafone. Close to every phone call I make is disconnected half way through due to what I assume is poor reception. No matter my location, I have one or two bars of reception. I do not receive messages, my phone rings out and doesn't display a missed call, and most of the time it connects straight to message bank.

Recently I've had two people tell me my phone has been disconnected when they have tried to contact me.

VODAFAIL!!!

I'm in NZ and the service sounds just as bad over here... I was trying to cancel my service with them and couldnt even get through in the afternoon till there customer service desk closed only 9pm so thought would try call at 10am in morning (much quieter time?) No way.. waited nearly an hour to get through after being dropped the first time to have a very useless non english speaking phone representitive. Getting through was the easy part compared to cancelling with them!! They lost my request the first time. Never ever going through anything to do with Vodafone again!!!

I used to work for VF before the 3 merger and it's made a HUGE difference to service. I don't even try and call customer service because with the exception of corporate customers I know what kind of people I'll get on the other end! When I worked there the overseas (personal) care reps CONSTANTLY palmed people they 'couldn't handle' onto the business reps who although being locally based could not help them. They didn't seem to know how to fix simple problems that took all of 30 seconds to fix with the proper training and system knowledge and so now I do everything that needs to be done myself and thank the stars I'm in a decent area although the reception onion iPhone at times is ridiculous especially loading data pages.

Might I just say as an inside point of view I personally think the company went down somewhat with the new CEO from 3. Not a fan. Certainly not the same level of caring as his predecessor and why they made that choice is beyond me.

I've been with VF for a long time and unsure if I'll stay but I would never even attempt to call service unless I was out of every other conceivable alternative. Oh well. One can only hope that if enough people complain someone will listen.

14539 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is FAIL at 25 Jan 2011 06:33:14 AM
My problems with Vodafone consist of:

Dropping calls. (talking with customers and the call drops out half way through a sentence then you have to call back appologise, only for it to happen again).

Poor signal. (leave the metro area and you may as well have a brick in your pocket)
Internet not available most of the time. (useless as it is never working when you actually need it)

Late arrival of txt messages.

People calling and being told my phone is switched off when its not.

No emails for the last 10 days. (was told to reset my phone how many times)

Then was told yesterday by a customer service representative to switch my phone to 2G while the upgrades to the network were being carried out but continue to pay for my 3G contract.

NICE.
25 Jan 2011 07:26:07 AM: Look you have to learn to be patient. The network upgrade may or may not occur sometime in the next 10 years or so.
Your negative comments are hurtful to Nigel (and has an adverse impact on his bonus) and to the Vodafone shareholders.
In the meanwhile keep paying your bills.

Just changed to prepaid Telstra wireless internet account and can't believe it - internet finally working and it doesn't matter where I am in the house! Once my mobile account with Vodafone (or should I say vodafail) finishes I'll also be going across to Telstra!).....whilst the customer service people were nice to speak to on the phone at vodafone I had to wait in excess of 40 minutes on one occassion and another occasion the phone line cut out after 40 minutes ... fail!

I am currently trying to register for the my vodafone website so I can check whether or not I should have had service when I was overseas recently. Each time I enter my phone number they text me a temporary password however the passwords don't work. I've tried so many times and had three passwords texted to me. They instruct you to phone customer service f you continue to have difficulty which I did however after several voice prompts I was informed that service is closed and I have to call back in the morning. I have to work tomorrow and don't have time to wait hours to wait on hold to get something so trivial sorted. I have wasted many lunchtimes on hold to them over the past 12 years and just accepted it but since this website I've realised I don't need to take this. When I do get through I will attempt to end my contract.

14476 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Very! at 24 Jan 2011 04:40:17 PM
End of last year, my sms's were being sent multiple times, 8 or more sometimes, and when I tried to ring the customer service, and speak to a human to rectify my dilemma.. after waiting over an hour from my land line phone, I gave up, and made a complain to the Telecommunications Ombudsman.

After a few days, someone from Vodafone eventually rang me, knowing I had made a complaint to the Ombudsman, and offered me free credit for my pain.. which was nice, until it ran out.

I went to recharge my credit, using the same credit card I had used for the past year, and it said I had no card registered? Ok, so I jumped online tried to register my card.. I entered all the details in, and it came up with some error, and to try calling 1555. So, after waiting over a year last year, I had hoped that they may answer sooner from the mobile on their network.. :( No.. I was on hold for over an hour and a half this time.. The call started at home, I packed up my gear, walked to the bus stop, was on the bus over 50 mins, and eventually lost the signal when the bus went into the underground bus station.. Quietly I think it would not have answered even if I had been there for 3 or 4 hours.. anyways. It kept sporadically telling me.. " Hang in there. We';ll be with you really soon" ... really soon??? Compared to what?

I have been unable to make calls/send text messages from my mobile for over a week and a half. I have no idea what happened to my credit card information, but I know they DID have it prior to November 2010, as I had used it to recharge ever since I'd been with Vodafone, and the card details are fine as I use it daily for my grocery shopping etc.

I have given up on Vodafone and think I'll give Virgin Mobile a go?

Vodafone Customer service 0/10 :( FAIL!
24 Jan 2011 05:54:18 PM: i had no troubles with virgin, decent coverage too

Changed to Vodafone for a "better deal" from another provider with whom I never had a problem in 6 years. Firstly, I wait almost 3 weeks to receive my new phone in the mail. There are no instructions included in the package regarding the account activation process. I call customer service for help only to be hung up on 3 times. I try to call the mobile number given to me by the girl who offered me the deal ("just call me directly if you have any problems...") but she's on holidays for the next 3 weeks. Perfect. Finally get through and activate the phone except they haven't transferred my old number over and have given me a new one which I had specifically asked them not to do. Rather than attempt to call them, I go to the store. Two staff behind the desk say it's impossible to transfer my old number over when luckily, the young guy stacking the shelves overhears the conversation and says "just type in the number you want transferred and click 'transfer'". I get minimal reception at home with frequent drop-outs (never had this before) and the touch-screen handset is a disaster to use even with my skinny fingers. Lucky last, they've started billing me from the day they posted my phone out so now I'm paying the bill to Vodafone and to my old provider this month. Whatever saving I was going to make this year is gone in the first bill. Stuck in the contract for another 23 months.

I used to use vodafone for the local customer services who were fantastic.
I just called to ask why i'm getting repeated "Network Busy" Messages and was told

a) Restart My Handset
b) Someone who is trying to call me at the same time so it shows Network busy.
c) It might be because the network is full.

a & b are very miss leading.

I'm now connecting to sales to find out what I can do to get out of my PLAN this service sucks and I just got a bill for a few hundred bucks.

Vodaphone had me for life, and lost me when care was outsourced. and lately with network performance.

I'll never recommend vodafone again, and will get my family off the network asap.

Consistent drop outs are my biggest issue and finding difficulty to get coverage most of the time. I contacted Vodafone this morning and waited on hold for only 1 min before i was connected to a staff member in Mumbai. He was friendly, sympathetic, and very helpful. He has organised for my enquiry to be escalated which i know is what most say and never get results, but we will see, he said a report will be filed and i will be contacted once complete which he said should take no longer than 5 days. He credited $75 to my account for the inconvenience of the poor service over the past couple of months which doesn't sound like much, but i was honestly expecting nothing. We discussed the option of me being able to withdraw my contract if the issues with the network aren't resolved in 2 months which is when he advised it should be back to working properly. The report that will be completed will assist me in gaining the desired result, is how he worded it so will wait and see what happens from here. Just wanted to let you know my story as i am a very frustrated customer aswell but feel a little better after having spoken to them.

I signed a contract with VF 3 months ago. While I signed for a $69.month minus an online offer they had at the time $10 which makes the total $59, VF keeps on charging me bills in the range of 80-108.. Called the Customer care more than 7 times, asking them to send me the bills either to my email address or to my mailbox... Not sure what to do now... their system is simply not working... all it says is that the amount owing is xx and the bills dont get sent!
Customer service guys always say they have no access to the bill and that they will investigate the reasons as to why I am not receiving the bills... It's been 2 months, and I haven't heard back from them...

14409 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is INCORRECT BILLING AMOUNT at 24 Jan 2011 10:26:29 AM
I was wrongly billed a monthly handset payment for my contract where in fact in the order details it said that the handset was $0 (free). Went through the regular hassle (waited for half and hour to get to customer service). But good thing is that the person on the other line said he'd investigate and was offered a call-back and I agreed. So after 30 mins, I had a call-back and was told they had an error and they will rectify my bill. This is very frustrating because if I hadn't gone in and looked at the billing details, I wouldn't have known I was charged more than I owe. And I have the account set to auto-debit on my credit card. Vodafone should really get their act together.

14408 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is a lot of overcharging at 24 Jan 2011 10:24:43 AM
i got a text from VF alerting me to the fact that my bill was $282 in excess of it usual $79 cap. Not unusual for me to have gone over by $20-$50 given its christmas etc, however the problem arises when i call VF "customer Service" to ask for details. Apparently it isn't possible to tell me any details other than the amount it is currently over. They say they can 't see the call list and i won't know until the bill is generated. When it is, it is something like $500 over! So upon further enquiry i get a man willing to tell me that all he can tell me is it is over and it is calculated and i must pay. On further investigation he hangs up apparently having told me enough i guess. There was no further call back and of course this after three times waiting longer than 15 minutes to talk and then submitting my number for them to call me back which took longer than they said it would. My problem is if they can generate a detailed account of how much I over-used my plan then how come they can't tell me the details or at least offer an alternative there and then to avoid the massive overcharge that they know is coming.

14393 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Epic Fail! at 24 Jan 2011 09:26:01 AM
I have been with Vodafone now for almost 10 years and have never had a problem with them until last year.

In July last year I decided to get an iPhone, as you do. The store I went through (in Sydney) stuffed up my upgrade and didn't put it through properly, resulting in me getting an automated message saying that my usage was up to $600. I went into a shop front in the ACT to discuss this and they told me that I would have to ring the Sydney store as there was no record of my upgrade in their system. He said I basically got a free iPhone out of that, yeah except my bill was up to $600 so not really. The problem was resolved and I didn't have to pay the extra charges.

Since about September last year I have had extremely poor data performance. I can hardly access the internet on my phone, the Facebook app never works, not to mention continual service drop outs and messages extremely delayed coming through. I have sent them a request via their website as I wasn't able to get through to them on the phone. Someone was supposed to get back to me within 5 business days. I'm still waiting.

To make matters even worse, I now have a crack in my iPhone. I've been told that Apple won't cover it under warranty. I thought no problem I'll just put it through insurance. Oh wait! They never put my insurance through when I upgraded. This is partly my fault for not realising I wasn't paying insurance, I just pay the bill each month. I had assumed it was on there. I ring customer service and ask for a call back. They actually rang me back within 15mins. They tell me that because the insurance wasn't put on when I first purchased the phone that it can't be put on now because it needs to be done on the day of purchase. I'm now the one left out of pocket for expenses to get my phone fixed. I don't see how that is fair when I said yes to the insurance and its their fault for not putting it through.

Is there any way that people have been getting out of their contracts without having to pay the exit fees?
24 Jan 2011 11:33:22 AM: Best way out is lodge complaint with tio regarding dropouts and poor coverage (that insurance stuff will get you nowhere).
Sign up with another carrier Telstra or optus, get a new fone, and if voda wants it, let them have the busted fone back

I have been with Vodafone for about 10 years. It has worked really well until Christmas 2011.

Following Christmas reception has been appalling both at home and at work. Repeated dropped calls, delayed texts, numerous missed incoming calls.

I called customer service on 1555 and went through to the coverage problems section. Went through a few diagnostics. The reception problem was escalated to the network technicians - I should hear back in about a week. I am now using 2G (not 3G) to work around the problem.

I am not happy with the reception problems but the customer service I experienced was ok.

14373 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Extremely at 24 Jan 2011 06:41:32 AM
We had a third party company by the name of Mobycom call us without permission on behalf of Vodafone, the salesman came over to our house, made us offers we couldn't refuse and then got us to sign this form telling us it was an application form to see if we qualify for the offer. I asked the salesman to email the offer to me so I had it in writing and then we will go ahead with it, when he did, it was not what we had discussed, then a box of phones along with invoices turn up on our doorstep. We tried several times to contact the salesman for Mobycom but no one returned our calls, then we were told he was on holidays, the business card that was given to us to contact them if we had any queries had a disconnected number and there was no Mobycom business at the address on the B/C. We finally got hold of the customer service manager for Mobycom and he told us we were under contract and we couldn't do anything about it. He was very rude and abrupt. He was not very helpful so we took the phones and the paperwork to the nearest Vodafone store and explained our situation to the sales staff there. They told us that they get complaints from Mobycom customers all the time and that our paper was the worst they have ever seen, not filled out correctly and that it was invalid. They put us onto the state customer service manager for Vodafone and she promised us that this will get solved. It is going onto to more than 3 months now and after several emails, nothing has been done, instead we are getting bills from Vodafone for 8 phone numbers we don't even have and final warning letters saying that it is going to affect our credit rating. We have never had a contract or phone with Vodafone to make such calls but we are getting bills and final warning letters from them. We are with Optus and will never go with Vodafone. Can you help us or give us advise on what we should do?

2 Feb 2011 07:37:25 AM: That's kind of your fault really...I mean sure vodafone hasn't really done anything about it but come on a random salesman 'speaking' on behalf of vodafone? What if I came over and said I was speaking on behalf of Telstra
11 Feb 2011 11:51:36 AM: Mobycom have misrepresented their great offer to me - offering to payout my existing contracts with Optus (nearly $1000) then when I changed over to Vodafone they said they could not payout existing contracts as it was illegal but suggested I pay and they would credit my future accounts with Vodafone, four months down the track they have not done this, I have made countless call, emails etc to Mobycom but they are never there and if I do speak with someone they say they will look into it and never ring back. I have contacted Vodafone who have said on one occasion they would apply the credit and now they say they wont!! Do not every deal with Mobycom!!!

I went on a vodafone $79 a month plan and recieved a Nokia N97 handset which the vodafone customer service rep highly recommended. My reception was either non existent or extremely low which was strange considering I was living in Bardon, 5kms from the CBD of Brisbane. Also the handset was appauling in function and frequently lagged or dropped out. My workplace has issued me with a HTC desire HD handset with Telstra. The reception is flawless, data is much faster and the handset is fantastic. Only problem is Im still stuck on a plan with Vodafone for another year. Wondering if I can join the class action still or not????

14359 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is False message data at 23 Jan 2011 07:19:13 PM
I was having issues where my phone would play my message tone and there was no message, every 5 minutes, really really annoying, when I rang customer service I was told that it was probably my phone that was causing the problem. I watched my phone as the GPRS icon would change and become active, then I would receive "not really a message" tone. This was very frustrating as it would happen at all hours, I ended up turning my phone off when I went to bed at night. Went on for over a week, so eventually started using an old simple phone for a while and got no false messages on it (was a basic GSM phone). Checked back on my regular mobile after a couple of weeks and the problem seemed to have been fixed up.

I recently moved to Bathurst from Tamworth and i have to say that for a town of that size, reception is crap (customer service isn't much better)! Even tho it says i have full 3g, do u think i can load a webpage? Yet back in Tamworth yesterday, web pages load without a hitch! I asked the staff in the store @ bathurst why i couldn't get webpages to work and they looked at me like i'm an idiot. Hmmm, lets try a test then. In Bathurst, pages don't load. In Tamworth and Dubbo, they load fine. In all cases it showed full 3G. If i have to put up with this for the next few years, i'm going back to telstra!
23 Jan 2011 07:16:13 PM: Check out the 'How To Complain' link at the top of the page, Just escalate your issue to the TIO.
23 Jan 2011 07:17:29 PM: i hear u. its sad tho that store staff obviously don't have a clue about network issues - they're probably as much in the dark as the rest of us, but still, the whole "you'll have to call customer service" schtick is getting quite old.
23 Jan 2011 07:20:41 PM: Thanks to 09:16:13pm - i think i'll just pay out my contract and swap to telstra - not even worth going to the TIO. I'm really annoyed that i can't load webpages here! my flatmate has the exact same phone (iPhone) as me and is with Optus and he has no issues here at all. oh well, that's life i suppose!
23 Jan 2011 07:22:50 PM: TIO would save you paying out your contract, but the choice is yours. Best of luck :)
23 Jan 2011 07:44:24 PM: i have a similar problem - VF staff told me to reboot my phone whenever it happens. yeah right, i'd constantly be rebooting my phone! the only time i can load a web page is if i'm lucky enough to connect to HSPDA
23 Jan 2011 07:45:43 PM: sorry neglected to mention i'm in penrith, so larger area than bathurst

What I don't understand is that why do they employ indian customer service officers that cannot speak properly and also not answering our query correctly.

I have on many occasions asked short questions and yet they cannot even give me an answer for it. I get transferred around to another indian operator and then suffer from an infamous call drop-out.

14325 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is ..... at 23 Jan 2011 03:50:20 PM
I was in the Vodafone store today trying to get my phone replaced or exchanged. They told me because this phone had already been exchanged once, they couldn't do anything and I'd have to call up 1555.
I said if they can't fix it I'd want to cancel my contract (WITHOUT cancellation fees as they are not providing me with the quality phone I paid for.)
They once again told me to call 1555.

I called 1555, I spent 1 hour and a half on the phone, got switched to 4 different departments, and FINALLY a guy told me I had to go into the store, and talk to them from there, if nothing could be done I'd have to call 1555 from the store and let the customer reps speak with the people in the department....

I've had one of my phones sent off to repair 3 times, they couldn't fix it, they gave me a new/different one. That one was faulty out of the box, they exchanged it, and now they are refusing to do more because this one is faulty too. It's not MY fault they gave my shitty quality phones.
Now I'm going back to Vodafone AGAIN tomorrow (in the past two months I've probably been there over 20 times).
The customer service reps have absolutely no knowledge about the phones, and they have the WORST attitudes I have EVER seen. I find it ironic, people complain about the overseas call centres...but I'd say the people I talked to at the call centre were alot nicer than the employees at the vodafone store.

Is there any way to cancel my contract without incurring a penalty due to lack of action/ service by vodafone?
23 Jan 2011 03:53:19 PM: Also, whats this I hear about people not receiving their bills in hardcopy any more? Now that I think about it, maybe the same things happened to me?? My bills late in arriving so I'm thinking maybe they won't even send it?? If thats the case, no way am I paying a late payment penalty
23 Jan 2011 04:07:38 PM: Well.......you have given it a pretty good bash without success.........yet!!!

I think the next step is the TIO, details in the How To Complain tab at the top of the page, you have a very strong case based on your postings.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!! Vodafail.com mod
23 Jan 2011 04:09:40 PM: Oh.......forgot the 'no paper based records' (I think) are part of Vodafone's Green initiative.

You should (inverted commas) be able to register online and view your usage.
23 Jan 2011 04:37:54 PM: DROP THE OPTUS BOMB AND THAT WILL GET THEM WORKING
23 Jan 2011 04:47:59 PM: i was supposed to be getting a refund off then and they rejected it and didnt tell me then when i called up chasing it up they told me i wasnt getting it so i said "well OPTUS wants my business they are willing to pay my contract out because i am not happy with your service, its unacceptable" their reply was " hold one moment, then she comes back and tells me my refund will be in the bank in 5 business days"

No mess any longer. i got out of two contracts because of their poor service. I was told the area i was in was not a good area, only problem being, i had been with them for 8 years!!. As i told them the last twelve months were the worst. Cut a long story short the contract states they provide the service you provide payment. i got them for breaching the contract and therefore sent phones back and was let out of my contracts, i am now with telstra and low and behold i can run my business. The only calls to drop out are other carriers.
I was a fan of vodaphone but will never use them again, i will use a carrier pigeon before using them again.

23 Jan 2011 03:09:18 PM: Carrier pigeons are more reliable and the message will usually get through faster!!
23 Jan 2011 03:16:52 PM: Forgot to add.........carrier pigeons are more tasty than a mobile phone!!!
23 Jan 2011 03:17:03 PM: CORRECTION: In order for pigeons to be more reliable, vodafail needs to have reliability. Vodafail has no credibility or reliability, so truth would be" Carrier pigeons are reliable and the message will get there!

I have been trying to cancel my out of contract phone for a week now. Everytime I contact Vodafone, they tell me it has been done but the phone is still active and now they have billed me another month in advance. Problems also with my daughter trying to set up voice mail. Called customer service and they couldnt help, said (from Mumbai) to call back in four hours to try again. Who has time to be talking to Vodafone and being passed around different departments?
23 Jan 2011 11:18:00 AM: Check out the 'How To Complain' link at the top of the page. You will no doubt have to escalate to the TIO, but they should be able to assist you out of your contract penalty free.
23 Jan 2011 05:16:40 PM: I just thought I would point out that when Vodafone cancel your contract they leave the number active so you are able to port to another carrier! They simply remove the contract dates, before the moderator of this website jumps all over this ignoring his own advice contained in the how to complain section and tells you to go to the TIO I think you should check to see if the contract dates have been removed.

I'm on the $55 p/month post-paid sim only plan... when i signed up it was 500mb of data a month, now it's 1Gb, not only did they fail to tell me this but when i rang customer service (after waiting 25mins) to get it upgraded... THEY SAID THEY'RE BUSY AND WOULD DO IT LATER?!?!?!?!?!?!?

THEN, I got a bill saying I owe them $172.80 for this month because of excess data usage. WTF. I figured it's just because they hadn't added the extra 500mb yet... then i look at the bill for when i supposedly used so much data and what do you know, THEY HAVE ME USING $25 OF DATA ON A DAY WHEN I WAS ON WIRELESS ALL DAY!!! and more data used on days where i was working all day and had my phone off... I don't have apps that use the internet that much so how about Vodafone stop MANUFACTURING my bills. These lies are bullshit, and i'm not paying that bill, not with all the dropped calls and late texts etc.

VodaFAIL.
23 Jan 2011 08:49:00 AM: There's no way for them to bill you when your using wifi. Your phone must of dropped out of wifi or you had an app downloading in the background or you had tethering enabled.

System may of been down when you called to do a rateplan change that's why they told you to call back later

I had a Vodafone contract for broadband and couldnt get any signal in Bridge Street, Sydney CBD. The freakin CBD. Everything was patchy outside of the CBD and nothing existed in regional NSW.

Ditto for phone calls. I gave up and moved to pre-paid with another carrier . . . for the fun of having vodafone I paid over 2k in costs . . to not use the service or make calls / internet as the service quality was terrible.

The customer service staff were quick to tell me I needed to pay out my contract to get out of it . 2k down the drain all up

14232 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is slack and worsening at 23 Jan 2011 03:10:25 AM
I will be honest, It use to be pretty good for me. I have been with them for 12 years.

Now, the reception is poor in multiple different handsets, txts can take an extended time to be received by a recipient, 1555 Customer service has shockingly bad waiting times.

Recently I called to find out when my contract ends, which was Feb (one month away). I told them I will likely lower my contract at the end of the month, not really interested in another handset or go as far as canceling and porting my number to a new carrier. The customer service operator didn't even talk about it or offer anything to me or suggest talking to sales, just said "is that all you wanted to know?".

In my opinion they obviously don't want my business anymore or at least provide a deal to longer term customers or attempt to pursue me to stay.

14229 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Mobile internet is not worth buying t all at 22 Jan 2011 11:19:00 PM
I purchased this Vodafone mobile Internet connection and i am in the middle of a best serviced area (According to their stupid customer service officer). When i started using it, it takes about 1min to go to Google. I kept on using this useless connection for about 1 month experiencing this extremely slow connection.

Also i send 3 Emails to Vodafone customer care and i got automated replies with in 1min saying that the problem is solved but it was not. I couldnt tolerate this stupid behavior of Vodafone anymore and i rang them.

The guy who spoke to me had no idea about what he is doing. According to him i am in the middle of a best serviced area as well but i have to wait about a 1 min to go to Google and much longer to go to any other website. At the same time this guy is giving me instructions to plug the modem to another computer which i did. The funny thing is it didnt changed the speed it was still very very slow and when i type www.google.com.au instead of taking me to google it was going to some some other site which sells computer games.

When i told this to the customer service guy he said try on your computer and i did. Again the same story. Then i asked whether he got my Emails and also gave the reference numbers that vodafone has assign to my inquires, which i got automatic replies as well. The guy searched them in their system and said they havent got them which is ridiculous if they didnt receive them who sent me those replies me.

I wasted my money on this stupid vodafone Internet. As a student living below the poverty line, money they took from me is a lot. I should have spent that money to buy some food.

I think that is standard operating procedure.
All people need is for a Vodafone staffer (present or past) to swear to that, and it starts to look like "intentionally subjecting someone to cruel and unnatural suffering".

I just posted this on Vodafone's blog page.... they pushed me over the edge today. I hope they burn in hell...

I have been a customer for the last 3 years. For the first 2 years, I used to tout your company as the best phone company in Australia, with the best plans and great customer service. I cannot believe how far you have fallen in the last 12 months. Continuous call drop-outs, inability to access the net almost all the time, blatant (and proven) lies from your customer service teams, massive bills despite being on a 'cap plan', reneging on insurance claims by coming up with absolute bulls--t reasons for not paying, regularly being on hold for over 30mins when trying to get someone on the phone (and then having the line drop out when they finally do answer, as somehow I've been connected to the wrong department despite pressing every button I was instructed to and they need to 'transfer me'), being cut off for unpaid bills despite the aforementioned calls being made specifically to try and pay said bills, being told by some fool in India who does not give a rats arse about customers, that there is no way they can connect me with someone in Australia to discuss my problems (bloody cowards that you are). Well I have had a gut full.... I am leaving to join one of your competitors. I am going to tell everyone I have ever known and everyone will I ever meet 'NOT' to go near your company. I am joining the class action. I am going to post this letter and many more on Vodafail.com.

YOU SUCK.....

14204 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is DISGUSTED!!! at 22 Jan 2011 06:39:44 PM
First, let me explain about my case

i left Australia, Melbourne on 2007, i signed up with Three (now Vodafone) around 2005 and i cancelled my contract in 2007 when i left melbourne that time.

but for some dumb reason Vodafone/Three suddenly sent a debt notice saying that i owe them over AUD 3000...since i havent been paying my phone bill since 2008 which is kinda stupid since i left australia in 2007.

the thing that pissing me off is that i called vodafone/three customer service all they responded is that the account 042-179-3290 has been blocked by the aus debt collector so they cant do anything until my business with the debt collector finished, so i called the debt collector but they said that i have to finished the problem with vodafone/three since they are the one who said that i have the debt and all ausdebt do is to collect the debt from me. so they keep passing me around for about 10 times FUCKIN DUMB!!! it cost HELL A LOT OF MONEY TO CALL FROM OVERSEAS yet they didnt clear up anything.

and the weird thing that i found out after i investigate this matter, the account is actually under my name, but all the details that are on it is soo wrong e.g. my address, and etc. but yet...vodafone/three saying that the reason that the address is change because i moved out from my old address......what the fuck are they on about.....i left australia on 2007 and how am i suppose to moved out from my old address if im not in australia during that time....what an idiot.....
22 Jan 2011 07:06:37 PM: at NO time are you obligated to talk to a debt collector...you can demand vodafail deal with this...
24 Jan 2011 08:43:49 AM: Three is still three and vodafone is vodafone, they are two different networks, get your facts straight, they also have two different call centres

I have been on vodafone for nearly 2 years and have also shared the usual pain of contant dropouts and no reception. Ever since i started my service with vodafone i have experienced these problems, recently i called vodafone customer service to upgrade my plan and was on hold for a total of one hour and a half and in that hour and a half i spoke to 3 different departments. Customer Service put me on hold for 45 minutes and then I was informed that I was put through to the wrong department which was Sales and was then put on hold for a further 45 minutes to have the phone answered and to be told to please hold whilst he checked my account. All this only to be hung up on.... What a waste of my time. This is not good enough Vodafone, YOU ARE A JOKE!

Vodafone has a lot of cellphone holes in Auckland, New Zealand. Vodafone's customer service in New Zealand is diabolical. I rang to ask them about why some of my calls where directly going to voicemail and after 22 minutes waiting to speak to customer services including 7 minute wait from being put through to "technical", they said this hardly ever comes up and is your problem. We are a leading UK company and deal with it! They are exceptionally rude, and want to hold me to paying out of their contract term despite their technical service issues, and disgusting customer and technical service representatives!

How about setting up a complaints area for NZ Vodafone customers. I have spent the last 3 years complaining about coverage in our area. Every time a sales rep rings, every survey I'm asked to complete, complaining to customer service, asking to speak to someone in their technical area who could help, emailing their website has been ignored. We live 3-4km as the crow flies from a major cell site, our settlement has limited reception but unpopulted areas further away have excellent reception
