Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

18757 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is no network coverage at 18 Jul 2011 02:09:17 PM
Network fail. Vodafone always say nothing wrong from their side, they deny ther network failure & put the blame on my handset. Brand new iphone 4!
18 Jul 2011 05:49:40 PM: They did the same thing to me!!! Brand new iphone 4!! I took it to Apple to prove them wrong and Apple confirmed it was a network issue as my iphone was working perfectly. The guy at apple even told me Vodafone are the pits and advised me to get out of my contract. Still waiting on the TIO to help me do that! So frustrating! Vodafone are criminals!!

Vodafone have cheated me, barely any of msgs have ever been received from either end. The coverage is constantly crackling, cutting out mid conversation and or not even connecting the call.

18746 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is such a joke at 16 Jul 2011 05:39:46 PM
I've signed up with vodafone thinking they are an international network, which should facilitate good use of the phone when travelling abroad... what a mistake: even in countries in which there is vodafone, there is no roaming provided for prepaid... why?!
Also, when trying to access my voicemail from another phone, I get "the system is experiencing some difficulties, please try later"... but that's been now the story for a few days!
What can I say, very helpful... I'm switching to another services as soon as I get back!
19 Jul 2011 02:03:38 AM: dont be an idiot. australia has no "international" carriers. roaming is roaming no matter where you go or who you are with. telstra/optus will charge you for roaming the same as vodafone will. yes, VF prepaid roams

18744 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Feedback to Vodaphone at 15 Jul 2011 11:35:25 PM
I was cold-called one saturday morning by someone from Vodaphone when I was still with 3, and told by the rep that Vodaphone had bought 3 and as a result all their customers were being "encouraged" to move to Vodaphone. He had my access details, phone plan details, and full account information, and identified Vodaphone plans that would provide everything plus more that our 3 accounts would. I had concerns about the Vodaphone network since we have several friends who have experienced such poor reception that they have moved to another network - he "looked up" our address and told us our signal would be much better. He also made the transfer sound painless since it would be an internal transfer.
The deal sounded like it was inevitable since 3 and Vodaphone were going to be the same, everyone would have to transfer sometime, and everything would be matched or better than for 3, so I signed up. We received SIM cards in the mail about a week later, and switched over.
We had some initial problems with MMS messages because no one told us that our phone settings needed to be changed for the new network, the staff in our local Vodaphone store fixed this for us.
Whilst in the store I have learned that one of the key features of the 3 deal is not available under Vodaphone - with 3 when you are overseas on a 3 network in that country your calls are considered as though you are in Australia - which was attractive since we travel to the UK and Europe and want that feature, this is apparently not available on Vodaphone.
I have also just been charged over $900 by 3 for leaving thir network without telling them. They will refund it but only after a long and heated discussion with them. Basically Vodaphone salesman sold the deal as though it was one company, and you would take care of the transfer - BUT 3 levy a large charge unless their customers inform them, which I didn't do since I was told that this wasn't necessary. Whilst I will be refunded I will have the inconvenience of no money until it is refunded, and have incurred bank charges for going overdrawn - which is unfair since Vodaphone have caused this.
AND, apart from all the hassle I have had to do (and am still dealing with) to effect a "seamless internal" transfer my wife has such poor receotion in her place of work that her mobile is useless during the day. Since she works in the centre of Perth city approx 50m from your nearest store this doesn't reflect well on your network. I have also experienced far more dropouts and low signals than I ever had with 3.
My main complaint is that your salesteam made it sound like there was no option but to switch, that the switch would be completely painless, and that every aspect of our current contracts would be the same or better. If it had been just a telesales I would have hung up, but they had full access to 3's systems and therefore sounded very official.
As a result of your actions I feel very strongly that we have been lied to, and wish that I had never taken your call. Since your network is worse than 3's in the centre of Perth, South Perth, and Victoria Park it is virtually useless for us. I would like to switch back to 3 - but since it will become Vodaphone in the future this is pointless, and means that we will no have option but to transfer to Telstra.

I would appreciate your comments, an apology for your telesales team, and an assurance that 3 customers will not be contacted in this way again. I have complained to 3 about this and will follow up with them.
29 Jul 2011 11:17:29 PM: Thank you so much for posting your comment. My husband and I are "3" customers who have been cold called by Vodaphone and encouraged to transfer across (& as you've highlighted, they have implied that this transfer is inevitable). We will not be changing our current contact, based on your experience!!! (& will change services once our current contract expires or the 3 service declines).

Submitted a complaint to the TIO after terrible reception and calls going straight to voicemail. Vodafone has been trying to contact me ever since, but all their calls are going straight to voicemail. Oh the irony...
16 Jul 2011 12:05:52 PM: Have the same problem. The original calls from Vodafail kept going striaght to my Voicemail. I then received an SMS one week later that I had messages. However, by this time Vodafail had cut off my phone so I couldn't retrieve the messages. Finally got an SMS from Vodafail asking me to ring them. Guess what? When you ring it goes straight through to their Voicemail and they don't bother ringing back. About to escalate the matter further with the TIO

Pre paid mobile internet (I live in Bramston Tce Herston, Brisbane on a hill with a clear veiw to the city)
Reception is soooo bad, often only bps, that I have NEVER been able to load the Vodafone website. This means I have to always use my mobile and call India to resolve any issues or to recharge etc. I have noticed lately though that the call centre people now use their real names and openly admit they are in India. Not as fun as having an Indian called Mick trying to convince you he is in Oz!
14 Jul 2011 11:53:44 AM: Yep ... I get all nostalgic for 1996 using Netscape, when I use vodaphone mobile BB. It's like having a 64 kbps dial-up modem again

18725 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Call Catcher Scam at 13 Jul 2011 10:36:12 PM
Vodafone has taken to enalbing 'Call Catcher' on your SIM card WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION. This is designed to reduce network congestion, by terminating the ringing call tone after 5 - 10 seconds and forcing a missed call SMS message being sent to you.

You can't disable it by normal methods, on your phone or their Myvodafone website. You have to dial 1555 and register your anger with them to remove it, via the Skype Cust Call service to INDIA.

Benefits to Vodafone:
1 Reduces non paying ring time on the network.
2 Increases paid call time by people re-ringing back the the original caller. If the call rang long enough you wouldn't have to, as you would probably have enough time to answer the call.

This scam by Vodafone needs investigating by the TIO.

Who else has been annoyed by this scam?

18691 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Serious Fail! at 12 Jul 2011 03:54:54 PM
I have been with vodafone for 4 months.

Firstly, I never have phone reception, and I live 15 mins drive from perths city centre. I recently went to visit my mother in south australia, had 6 people around the table everyone had FULL bars of reception on different networks, I was lucky to get 1 bar, the whole 4 weeks I was there I had to call everyone who had called me back when I went for a drive.... This resulted in a $600 phone bill!! Rang them and they couldnt do anything for me.

Secondly, I asked vodafone to notify me when my bill got to $50, $100, etc. so I could monitor my usage. First month yep they did that, then stopped and I ended up with a massive bill, as far as I was aware I was still under my cap! Rang and complained all they could do was give me 10% off the bill.... Wasn't happy, not good enough!

Now I am not receiving my bills via email, rang to get this sorted and yep they have the right email address, and apparently theyre definantly sent got told to check my spam folder but I already had, I got a "well we cant help you then" ... Not impressed!

Not getting texts or emails about my bills how am I supposed to pay it? They just keep cutting my phone off without warning! I need my phone for work and I am losing business from it.

Im pretty sure contracts go both ways, they provide a service, I pay them for that service.... Theyre not providing me with a service at all! Not getting phone reception, my bill, any sort of customer service at all! Ive had more than enough and I WANT OUT OF MY CONTRACT!!!!!

Last time I rang them the guy on the other end couldnt understand what I was saying and I got that frustrated I ended up abusing him and hanging up!

18689 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is very fail at 12 Jul 2011 03:32:43 PM
Terrible customer service, terrible coverage, terrible everything. My calls drop in and out in volume and quality constantly, delayed text messages, an absolute minimum of a 20 minute wait to speak to customer service, an ironic, inappropriate title for vodafone to use, who rarely speak translatable english, OR care about my problems after tedious minutes of negotiating the language barrier. My data rate is pathetic. Using websites is completely impractical, I can set my phone to navigate to a page and wait half an hour and it has maybe a 50/50 chance of having loaded. Cannot use even a fraction of the data I pay for, I can use literally about 1/00th of my monthly quota when constantly trying to use it.

Not to mention my phone drops off the network completely almost every day, and I live under a relay... my housemates on alternative providers have full coverage at all times, and I cant wait to change. Ive been with vodafone for 10 years and back then they used to be the best, its all just gone downhill dramatically.

18683 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is $55 all time plan at 11 Jul 2011 11:45:35 AM
Paid for $55 new alltime prepaid plan. Made sure I did not ring 1300, 13, and 1800 numbers. Plan lasted 2 weeks apparently and this is not up in bright lights but the 121 message bank number is charged at $1.20 each time you ring for your messages. And they are double dipping here as a lot of my calls I don't receive they get redirected to message bank, so I am racking up a message bank bill that they are initiating because of their poor network. Rang Vodaphone (India) reckon they owed me a full month ($55) because it had happened for two months, generously gave me $10 back to go on this months $55.00 plan which is absolutely useless as I have changed to call back messages which is free.

18682 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Not too bad at 11 Jul 2011 10:38:44 AM
Firstly, I'll be blunt - I ported to Vodafone because their 850 network performs better than Telstra all over Sydney. However...

They've accidentally ported my number onto someone else's account, and sent me the SIM/Service. So I'm with an account which isn't under my name, and I can't change it back because I'm not the account holder. To make it worse, doing this has also disconnected this poor random ladies number - and she's getting my bills. Apparently reversing the port allows them to fix my issue, but would totally disconnect her service and she'd not be able to get her number back!

I'm sure it will all be sorted out, but it's a little laughable. If this was a business service, it would be a total nightmare!

I am spending a month in italy. I bought 2 vodafone sim cards one for internet and one prepaied for my phone. on the first day, everything was working well but on the second day, I cant send any sms from my phone even tho I can make and recive phone calls. Every time I send an sms it sais to me that the traffic is insufficient. For my internet sim I really got screwed because they told me that it would work everywhere and I found out that there is next to no network in the city I'm in and I always get the same message that the traffic is insufficient. I am interested in joining the class action suit and I hope it will put those liars out of buisness. I am not looking for any financial compensation.

Used to love vodafone (providing I was in Sydney) but now can't even manage it in Redfern / Glebe. Most of the time I am recieving a late 1990's phone experience.

2. Poor 3G network. Slow as hell, almost unusable on the train (not in the tunnel!)

18651 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Enough is enough at 7 Jul 2011 06:04:41 PM
I switched to Vodafone to get the HTC Desire HD and now regret my decision.
Today in West Pennant Hills & Cherrybrook I've lost count the number of times the calls dropped off, no data or internet services getting network errors or requesting me to update my timezone 20 to 30 times a day. It's starting to have an impact on my business (home office) and had a gut full. I've been patient giving vodafone the benefit of the doubt but enough is enough. I intend paying out my contract and move to Telstra, unfortunately HTC Desire HD does't work on NextG so as a result will count my loses, dump the HTC Desire HD and get the Samsung Galaxy S II. Such a pity the HTC Desire HD is a nice phone, wasted on Vodafone network. Some how I don't think Vodafone gives a grap.
9 Jul 2011 09:50:16 AM: I so agree with you...the phone is brilliant and I have the same issue...slow internet swervice, updating time zone all the time...and ....thru connect doesn't work and no sms for voicemail...

18649 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Major fail at 7 Jul 2011 02:22:17 PM
Last two weeks, mobile broadband (via pocketwifi or iPhone4) in Brisbane CBD has been atrocious. Constant cycling between 3G & H(SDPA) on the pocketwifi even though I'm at 4-5 bars of connectivity. iPhone4 shows 4-5 bars of 3G connection yet throughput speeds are near 0kbps. EDGE performance also spotty. The only service that is near or at consumer grade for me is voice calls. Out in suburbia (where home is) things are marginally better notwithstanding that my area (around Beenleigh) has recently had it's tower upgraded to the new 3G 850MHz network.

18645 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is charges at 6 Jul 2011 10:52:59 PM
Its amazing me to the extent vodacon adds charges to milk every bit out of you. I have a $99 shared business plan, and i have noticed a graph that shows charges outside of your cap. Mine was 0.28c, which i had no idea where this generated from, and been on a cap made it more strange that it was added above the cap. Now my plan includes international calling. I phoned a friend of mine in the USA, kept the call short, but notice they have charged me additional flagfall charge which falls outside my cap so i get charged. Strange that its not mention in the terms & condition part of the cap so hence the 0.28c. Now it makes me think that vodaevil will start to call the shots when the additional data charges appear. Even if you have a data plan, whats stopping them from free willy anything over to addition charge section for example internet is part of your data bundle, but if you use skype you might get charged because you are not on a skype bundle, even if you are on the net using skype vodathief might just say skpye is not the internet or maybe say anything thats not through voda central is an additional charge. A friend of mine has a 3gb data plan on his phone but For the first time got charged $8 for using the net because his phoned roamed as a result to vodaripoff bad reception, triggered roaming charges in a suburb where it drifts from 3g, 2g, to roaming. So i can see the disaster that this so call addition charges is going to create, and no doubt we will see a spike of huge vodabills due to this new con. Beware the devil in red.

I upgraded to a new Samsung Galaxy SII. Phone is awesome, lightning fast browsing when at home on WiFi (Telstra Broadband). Figured I would give Vodafone a second chance because of all this talk of upgrading their network. I spent the first night on wifi downloading apps, then while showing off my phone at work the next day, couldn't even connect to Google even though phone showed HSDPA. Tryed to surf the net today with 3G reception and still waited 3-5mins for a page to half-load, then tryed the Android Market and got 'network error'. Tryed speed-test and got 'network error'. Tryed streaming a Youtube vid, outdoors, HDSPA logo showing, it took more than a minute to buffer 10secs. This is ridiculous, I have 3GB a month on my plan and since Sunday have used 100mb MAX. What am I going to do with 3GB!? I am going to try ringing Vodafail tomorrow to sort out this problem and possibly cancel my contract. I have been a Vodafone customer for 3 Years. The contract I am happy with, the Phone I am happy with, but if they can't do anything about my broadband reception, I am moving to Telstra.

18629 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is bunch of lying, thieving criminals at 5 Jul 2011 11:52:47 AM
21 Jul 2011 09:50:01 AM: I am currently have partially experiencing of what you have. I am actually living in City Fringe of Brisbane which is within 2km from CBD Central.

This month I have realised that there is an excessive quota recorded against my account which costed me more than $300. This is due to my internet did not disconnect for 6 days and during this time I have restarted my phone as I experienced very poor internet service. I contacted customer support straight away and later on their technical support and they only willing to give me $60 credit.

I have then written an email outline my request with reasons but they responded me to liaise with their technical support and billiing team whom cant help me any further. They are just ignoring my question. I guess I will go TIO as soon as I have received my bill this month too.

OMG!! I thought these guys already hit the low end but today they surprise me again. I can't get 3G in the middle of the CBD. How stupid is that? I don't care if you are upgrading your network. You should always have a backup. WHHAAATT!! they tell me upgrades finish in October. Therefore I should not be charged for their mediocre service until October.

18624 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is very very bad useless 3G at 4 Jul 2011 04:20:04 PM
No consistent 3G connections anywhere! I have full reception most times but can not get a strong 3G link. Cannot surf the web on my phone, cannot download any files because of timeouts, I paid for 3G data and the damn bastards are taking my money and not giving access to 3G.
Have you done a network investigation? how can you, if customer care does nothing but pretend to record calls and do nothing afterwards.

2G voice calls seem to be fine but i wouldnt be suprised if people have not been able to call me and also they were not given a chance to leave voicemail!
Reception is strong but I think there are background voicemail problems for sure - delays or even loss of voicemails, laggy callback service too.

i hope someone starts a big movement to sue Vodafone and help us get our money back.
Would be nice if somehow our stolen money from vodafone could be moved over to telstra to continue our service but only on the telstra network - this should kill vodfone as a dodgy business for sure.

I have recently switched from 3 to Vodafone. Biggest mistake ever. Reception is terrible, I have to navigate through a complicated maze to download my bill on MyVodafone, because the email link sent with my bill doesn't work and the company's customer service representatives are idiots. It took them 15 minutes to verify my identity, when the password give to them was correct all along. Ridiculous. I've only been with Vodafone one month and I want out. NOW!

Poor reception, terrible & frustratingly SLOW internet coverage all day every day. Sometimes i cant even connect to basic apps like facebook or google maps????!!!! So sick of hearing about the supposed improvements theyre making atm because im not seeing any sort of improvement.

TERRIBLE customer service as well. ok, your choice to outsource but at least BRIEF the people on the deals you offer. i signed up for an NRMA discount and havent received it on any of my bills yet (ive been with vodafone for 4 months now), tried to call today and had to SPELL OUT NRMA for the operator (no its not NRME its NRMA!!!!!) AND explain what the deal was! Ridiculous. Not only that i was transferred to 3 different operators and had to explain the same thing OVER and OVER only to be transferred again and again. so frustrating! What a complete and utter waste of 45mins

18611 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Where to start.... at 2 Jul 2011 10:01:04 PM
Haven't been able to connect to the web through my mobile for about a week. It's ALWAYS slow but good grief!!!! Now they're going to start billing us when we connect to anything with a login?

Guess I won't be affected by that little piece of joy since I can't connect to a damn thing. Unfortunately I'm stuck with my phone for another 11months. So I suspect the drop outs, missing voicemails etc will continue.

As for their mobile broadband, that has been a total waste. I can honestly say my coverage was better with dial up. At least I can get out of that contract in a couple of months. Thank God for small mercies.

2 Jul 2011 10:24:38 PM: Oh,forgot to mention. After another lengthy call to the overseas call centre today to complain about my mobile broadband and to see if they could actually get me some coverage (you know the drill) they agree to drop my plan to a $15 for the remaining two months of my contract. When I asked if the contract would cease on that day and it would be disconnected, they said 'No. You will have to call up and have that done.'

'But I'm telling you right now, I want this contract to cease on 17/9/11. I do not want it after that.'

So I asked when the appropriate time would be for me to call them to arrange for it to be disconnected. They tell me I should do it about a week before it is due to expire.

I think this is insane, and an obvious ploy to continue billing me.

I then asked if there was somebody within their company that I could write to, confirming that I want the contract to cease as of that date. An email address? No they said. They then informed me they were at the highest level of the complaints section and that an email or letter would not be responded to. WTF????????????

Where the hell does Vodafone get off by making it so difficult for people to finish their contracts.

Screw it. That little piece of joy about not being able to send a letter or email through to someone to ensure it is finalised is the last straw. I'm going to the TIO.
12 Jul 2011 03:39:56 PM: You need to contact the TIO to get out. I'm in the ACT as well and was able to get out of the contract directly through just dealing with Vodafone. The only thing I had to do was send the phone back. They even sent me a AAE satchel to send it back in. Now I'm waiting to see if the manage to fark up my final bill. Otherwise I'm done with them. Been enjoying 2.5Mbps 3G connection in Gungahlin with Telstra for over a week now.

I come under my mothers contract so I haven't had to deal with most of vodafone's crap! But months and months ago,, vodafone charged my mothers bill twice to her account. When she realised she called straight away, and the customer service was so bad she wanted to rip her own hair out! No one would help her.. So now, months later, my mum is still paying her bills minus the amount they charged her twice for. That's all she can do in the matter. That money has been technically overdue for months but no one has contacted her. GOOD ONE GUYS!

I'm not even going to start about the crappy coverage.

18605 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is the most disgusting example of fraud perpertrated on Australian consumers at the present time at 2 Jul 2011 11:30:30 AM
I'm on the Gold Coast in QLD & have posted here previously. This site was instrumental in allowing me to break my deal with VF to supply wireless internet, which just totally did not work. I followed advice here by making a complaint to the TIO & after 5 weeks of being lied to by every level of VFs staffers the TIO finally forced them to rescind my contract because of undeniable failure to supply the stated product.

This company is fraudulent by still mounting massive advertising campaigns telling consumers they will supply products that they knowingly cannot provide. If you are gullible enough to believe the advertising & sign with them they will make it extremely difficult to cancel the contract for products they do not supply. Their whole method of dealing with consumers is designed to make it extremely difficult to make a complaint.

2 Weeks ago my home mailbox was stuffed with a glossy 10 page advertising brochure from Vodafone with every page full of impossible to believe deals. To verify that the deals they were offering to me directly by putting it through my mailbox I went to the nearest VF retail outlet (7 mins walk away) & asked them directly if I should take up one of the offers of 12GB mobile broadband for $39 a month on a contract would they guarantee me reasonable reception & download speed. They checked the coverage for my house, which is about 900 metres from their shop as the crow flys & said I would NOT get reasonable reception at that time BUT they were planning to UPGRADE their towers in the near future. When I asked why they had produced a brochure that offered me a product they knew they could not supply I was directed to the manager to answer my question.

The manager was a young man with a charming manner who had just returned from a VF seminar (sales pep talk) & was in complete denial that he worked for a company whose main products were deceit & fraud.

Further to this fraudulent company's mail box advertising, this week I received a letter addressed to 'Vodafone Customer' at my PO box mailing address, which consists of a whole A4 page of gobbledegook about how the company is building the most wonderful network of upgraded towers & equipment. This came from Michael Young - Chief Technology Officer - Vodafone Hutchison Australia.

Hiya Michael, thanks for giving me the best laugh I've had since watching Billy Connoly's routine about going to the doctor to have his prostate gland checked --- Ha ha ha ah aha ahahahhaa hhhaaaa ha ha ha!!!!!

Data service shows 3-4 bars of connectivity/signal strength. Throughput and actual connectivity just keep dropping to zero for many, many minutes at a time - causing all sorts of timeout issues.

Still can't run the phone on 3G - have to keep it on GSM to make it even vaguely useful.

All of this from my home where I was told VF coverage and performance was "excellent"... :-/

I have extremely poor coverage both at my home, uni and work. In April I called vodafone and they said they would give me 6 months off my bill and that the upgrade in my area would occur in July. They stated that AT ANY TIME before the end of July I could cancel my contract free of charge and send the phone back. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Reception in my area is still terrible, I have also been overcharged $10.00 a month for a pack I didn't approve. I canceled the pack, one month later it was back on the bill. I canceled it again and was charged an early exit fee without my knowledge and after explaining I never approved this. Due to shocking coverage, phone calls dropping out and then poor service I called to cancel my contract. This morning I was told that Vodafone reneged on their contracts as on 25/6/11. I cannot understand how they are allowed to do this!

When I first joined up with Vodafone four years ago I used to get good reception at home. I was recently stupid enough to sign a new contract with them some twelve months ago. Since this time the reception has continuously got worse. I can now no longer even use my mobile phone at home.

Trying to contact them is hopeless as the phone drops out while I am sitting in a queue waiting to be answered and they don't reply to emails.

I left Optus many years ago because of the problems I had with them and went to Telstra. I left Telstra for Vodafone because of the problems I had with Telstra. Initially I was very impressed with the quality of service from Vodafone but the service has gone downhill since then.

Now it seems that Vodafone have become the worst of the lot.

Vodafone have stopped doing automatic direct deductions to pay my bill. When I log onto their website to pay the bill manually it says that therre is an error and I should ring up.

As the only reception I can get at home is when I stand in the middle of my backyard in the cold and rain, I sent them an email. I received what appeared to be an automated reply which had nothing to do with my problem. I replied asking them to answer by question but no reply.

I recently sent them a second email via their customer support "contact us" websire but still no reply after two weeks.

I have tried ringing them but gave up after twenty minutes on hold.

I have now lodged a complaint with the TIO.

18581 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is useless! at 30 Jun 2011 10:02:34 PM
I lodged a complaint with TIO on the 07/06/2011 regarding not being able to use plan entitlements that I am paying for such as data due to reception issues. TIO then forwarded the complaint to Vodafone on 08/06/2011. I then received a voicemail message from someone at the Vodafone resolutions department on 15/06/2011 stating that they would try and call back later. Again on 16/06/2011 a voicemail was left from the resolutions department stating they would call back, both times a return contact number was not left. As I had missed 2 calls from Vodafone i used the contact us section on the Vodafone website to ask that I be contacted via email. I then waited until 23/06/2011 to be contacted via email only to be annoyed at the fact that the resolutions officer asked for a brief explanation of what my complaint was. I replied with the required information and it has now been 7 days and I have not heard anything back. I think it is very unprofessional that my complaint still has not been responded to
30 Jun 2011 10:13:15 PM: Unprofessional and against the TIO complaints procedure.

Your answer is really very simple, go back to the TIO with your original reference number. State what you have told us.

The TIO will chase up Vodafail for the second time (Vodafail will incur a larger *fine*) and you can almost guarantee that Vodafail will definitely be in contact with you very very soon.

If they do not, then the third time you complain Vodafail get an enormous *fine*, Vodafail are unlikely to not contact you.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

18577 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EXTRA SUPER STRENGTH FAIL at 30 Jun 2011 01:53:12 PM
1) - I work in the middle of Sydney city and get no mobile reception at work - at all, ever! I was advised by Vodafone that the building is a 'black spot' and this will never be resolved
2) - After returning from a short trip overseas (3 weeks) I was greeted with a $600 phone bill. After 6 emails and 10 hours on the phone Ive had no resolution to the overcharges and data roaming charges billed (which was never activated. Upon non receipt of payment for incorrect charges, Vodafone decided to activate call barring on my phone without any notification. After contacting Vodafone to re-activate the service I was advised that it would not be activated until the bill was paid. After explaining the situation in relation to incorrect billing, I was told "to bad" and that bill had to be paid.
In good faith I paid $300 off the bill believing this to be the amount that should have been charged initially. It took me 3 days to get my phone "back online" leaving several freinds and family quite worried about me.
3)- My 3 subsequent bills have also been charged in error with data roaming charges when I am in Australia!?
4) - My Vodafone broadband constantly drops out. I have been working remotely from home on several occasions, when, BAM it drops off and I lose all my work.

I have never experienced not only such a poor service, but the manner in which the issues are dealt with (or not) are beyond belief.
Get your act together Vodafone! We've all had enough!

18574 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is BEYOND SALVATION at 30 Jun 2011 11:32:47 AM
DON'T SIGN WITH VODAFONE.

They've got "very good deals" of late but you won't even get what you're paying for because of the bad service - bad service infrastructurally and bad service customer style.

I've had my contract for nearly two years and it was great at the beginning - they provided everything that was contracted for and service was good. That didn't last long with the service now so intermittent that I'm often standing in the middle of Sydney CBD with no reception. Or my call will connect, and then cut out soon after - meaning I have to make the call again and (surprise!) pay another round of flagfall. I send texts and they don't deliver. Long and short is - it's useless as a communication tool if you can't make calls and send texts that never arrive at their destination. I'm on an expensive business cap too and it's unimaginable how anyone is supposed to be able to conduct business on such a plan.

It also seems ridiculous that they waste time sending a glossy letter (June 2011) about how they're attempting to fix up the infrastructure but...

Had no time or resources to let all their customers know that they could swap on to the new plans (of the same value) after the Vodafone - 3 merger went through. Customer service told me that I would have been given the option:
(i) Had I visited one of their stores (why would I randomly visit a Vodafone store!)
(ii) Had I visited their cluttered website (why would I regularly visit their website)
They didn't even send an email out to notify their pre-existing customers. So turns out anyone on the old plans has to pay through the nose to make Vodafone to 3 calls; it's not part of the Vodafone to Vodafone minutes even though 3 IS Vodafone (and it's widely publicised and plastered all over their own websites).

Other service providers may be slightly more expensive on face value, but Vodafone definitely isn't worth the frustration. You think you're getting a good deal but you will always be exceeding your cap in ways you were unaware of (and plenty of my friends with caps on other providers have NEVER had to pay extra charges).

Customer service were polite but extremely unhelpful and couldn't resolve the issue. How to explain to someone miles away that in Australia, you visit the Vodafone shop once to try out phones and sign a contract, then you never regularly visit it again!
5 Jul 2011 07:04:13 PM: They then called back the next day - not to address any of the issues I had, but rather to ask why I would want to port my number (!!!) and how they could sign me on to a "new contract" based on my "needs and usage" because I was a very, very old customer. WHAT-A-JOKE!

The last thing I intend to do is to sign a new contract with them!

Over 6 months ago when I went to buy a replacement broadband 3 modem from a 3 vodafone shop, the sales guy convinced me to sign up for a 1 month contract with vodafone saying I would get an extra 2 gig per month more for the same price I was paying with my 3 contract. From the very first time I tried to conennect to the internet it it malfuctioned and since then I regulary get disconnected. I was told I was in a excellent coverage area but when I try to use it it says either poor or very poor signal. Once a week I ring vodafone trying to get the disconnection issue resolved. Months later one of the customer care people told me how to unistall the dongle modem driver which fixed the disconnection issue temporarily, at least once a day I've need to unistall the driver. Then vodafone came up with a brilliant idea and sent me a free wifi loading dock (no driver needed) and a new mega modem. I waited 2 months for both the loading dock and the new modem to arrive in the mail not 14 days as I was told. My modem singal was boosted but the disconnection problem got worse, so I've gone back to using my old vodafone modem with the faulty driver. Recently they tell me if I get a new blank sim card the disconnection issue with the wifi loading dock and new mega modem will be fixed. I went to the local 3 vodafone shop today and they dont stock the blank sim cards. I rang four differnt 3 vodafone shops in my city and each time I got a message saying the vodafone shop phone number was either incorrect or disconnected.

18566 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible!!! at 29 Jun 2011 07:47:53 PM
After months of terrible mobile broadband connection with my Vodafone stick, and even an upgrade to a newer supposedly better stick with no improvement, I called Vodafone to query the bad connection. They checked a few things and said my settings were fine, it must be a network issue, and they network team would investigate and call me back within 32hrs. They didnt. I called up 3 days later to cancel my account because I'd had enough and wanted to get a better provider. I was put through the ringer, being told that there were no service issues discovered by the network team. I complained that no one had bothered to inform me of that result prior to my call, and they said they called me and left a voice mail. I had not received a call. Despite this, I was still experiencing the same connection problems, ie. dropping out every 20 seconds, having to refresh an address link up to 30 times to get the website to show etc. 50 mins later I had been transferred 6 times to 6 different people who persisted in telling me that there was not a network problem, and finally told that if I wanted to cancel my contract I had to pay a $199 early termination fee. I was totally unaware that I was even still on a contract! My original 2 yr contract expired in June 2010 and apparently it was renewed last yr automatically! Given the lack of service I have received I don't think I should have to pay to end this supposed contract, regardless of whether there is agreement to it's existence or not. The saga ended with my resolution to take the issue to the Telecommunications Ombudsmen, which the supervisor I was speaking with did not seem concerned about. The customer service was nothing short of pathetic. In fact, lacking completely.
30 Jun 2011 11:12:27 AM: That is exactly why I only have a month to month contract or prepaid with any ISP now. No cancellation fee. It is also cheaper to buy your own router or modem from a computer store and tell them you have your own modem. Router's are better for security and configuration. Your own stuff can be used with ANY ISP!! and is usually cheaper and better quality, and has 12mth warranty if faulty. Mobile router-modems are ideal for laptop use even if you don't have a network because of their security features.

Vodafone has released the Samsung Galaxy S2 without having the promised unlock codes (recently they have added codes, the wrong codes). This means that for people who go on a plan to get the phone to pass onto someone else, it will not work for the person recieving the phone unless their SIM card is a vodafone SIM.

As far as I am aware, other big telcos do not network lock phones purchased on plans (as opposed to subsidised prepaid phones), as it's no difference to them who uses the phone as it's paid for by the plan. Why Vodafone does is mystery.

18546 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Tower updates only for iphones at 28 Jun 2011 07:21:00 AM
Well it looks like not many of us are going to benefit from vodacraps 850mhz service. They claim it will make things better for us all, so wrong. I live in Robina on the Gold Coast. Vodabull have switched on Robina 850, and Clear Island 850, as well as the upgrade to robina town center tower. You would think i would be happy to have so many towers for my phone to benefit from the improvement. WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!. To benefit from these tower upgrades you would need a iphone or a phone that has 3G 850, 1900, 2100, now if you have Android phone like i have your phone will only get 850mhz only on 2G, so yes you have cell improvement but slow as data as your android will only use edge or gprs. When i switch my phone to 3G you get nothing to one bar reception. So if your phone specs dont state 3G 850 then nothing will change from vodatwits 850 upgrade. Sure vodadud will tell you it will free up 3G 2100 so you can benefit, but thats fine if your next to a 3G 2100 tower. So why would vodafone push android phones on to the market knowing that most, if not all androids dont have 3G 850 only 2g 850. So yes you do get great reception from the 850 upgrade but only slow data from edge an gprs. GO FIGURE.

18538 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very at 27 Jun 2011 11:04:50 AM
Hi I have a laptop and a vodafone modem. This is the only computer in our house and due to my income the only computer and package I can afford. I can never get coverage I can not even get coverage to check my emails or do the basic google searches required for homework for my children ect. So basically I am paying for "NOTHING". this is not acceptable nor is the customer service line that vodafone offers because when I call it I wait and wait and wait and then they hang up on me . So then I get a "IMPROVING OUR SERVICE" note in the mail telling me to visit vodafone.com.au/redeem website to get my new modem well I cant get coverage to visit this website so I get in my car and drive to the top of the nearest hill to get coverage and find out that this website doesnt even exist????? Frustrated yes unaxceptable yes . Dont know what to do.
Regards, FRUSTRATED.

18535 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is ULTRA FAIL at 26 Jun 2011 07:34:31 PM
We have been contacting Vodafone over the course of 6 months, due to lost coverage, cant make or receive calls, cant send or receive texts and cant access data. Every 2 weeks we are on the phone with Voda.

We have lost angry clients who kept getting cut off, clients that have gone with someone else because we couldn't respond to them, we had enough and contacted them to resolve it once and for all in April... 4.5 hours and 17 transfers around the world later, we thought we resolve it, but its still an ongoing battle with TIO involved. Hopefully settling by end of June. Luckily, we have been able to get out and have received the best service ever from one of our colleagues who provides personal account management and can help fix your problems, best service we ever had, we didnt only save money, but get fast, friendly and reliable service which we've never experienced with any other Telco. We have pasted the link to his website below and highly recommend anyone to call him to get help

<<Web site name removed>>

Thank God we are (almost) off VodaFail!!!
26 Jun 2011 08:33:07 PM: I have had to removed the web address as it may be construed as touting for business.

I have made a separate secure note of the web address and shall be in contact with the Vodafail.com owner for further advice.

I Had a Vodafone mobile service account but unfortunately I had next to no reception at my work place after approximately 6 months of phone calls with their technical department they decided it was a black spot and they would let me out of my contract.

They wanted me to pay $2200.00 just to cover the handsets. but they sent me a bill for $2633.00.

In the email a (PERSONAL DETAILS REMOVED) writes that I agree to pay $2200.00 I have no written or verbal agreement with her that this would happen. I said i had to think about her offer.

I told them I would not be paying this amount as there company has cost me thousands of dollars in lost time, lost phone calls and lost work.

I then received a noticed from PDR collection service to pay the amount $2633.00.I rang PDR explained to them my story she advised me she would ring Vodafone and get back to me.

I never heard back from her or Vodafone. I presumed with all their complaints and the class action regarding their reception they let the matter go.

now i have a bad credit rating and cant get a loan.
26 Jun 2011 03:28:35 PM: That is not good.

It may not be too late to go to the TIO with this complaint.

18527 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Network still drops out at 25 Jun 2011 12:07:19 PM
I have been with vodafone since Jan and the other night was the last straw. I had to ring my partner four times in the space of 15 minutes because of the signal dropping out. Enough is enough, Vodafone i,m done. I even have to complain on a land line because of drop outs. Time to go with someone else.

They cant fix my coverage, no matter how often I complain and clearly identify the issues. I am so sick of this company. I also agree with the comments of someone from WA - why the hell is this company allowed to trade when they clearly cannot provide the core business that they are selling. Please will someone with some authority step in!!!!!
25 Jun 2011 11:16:15 AM: Yes they can..they just don't know how to fix it...must be Indian IT people

18518 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Worst provider I have ever been with besides 3 at 23 Jun 2011 10:09:03 PM
I used to be with 3 got no reception at all at home or surrounding areas. I live in caboolture north, I rang up 3 and opted to pay out my contract and by my iPhone outright but they begged me to let then swap me over to vodafone because they are linked and my reception is the same if not worse. It drops out during calls and suddenly drops out and picks up reception even if left in the same spot. It's just shit. I would recommend telstra for reception over these companies any day.
25 Jun 2011 01:06:06 PM: I told them to stick it on 20/6. Now with Telstra using E169 Virgin modem &Debian Squeeze, it still works much better than VF.Mansfield Qld 4122

18512 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Beyond FAIL at 23 Jun 2011 07:13:12 PM
Billing issues. I was given a credit for the bad service and coverage. Months later they take away my credit and said it was applied by error. Raise complaint to TIO and someone from Vodafone calls me and said they will apply the credit and will show up on next bill. Bill arrives and no credit. Call customer service and they know nothing about it. TIO again. Not only is coverage a problem but so is their billing.

Everything from Vodafone is fail, including the phones they brand. Anything Vodafone is fail. Don't buy a footy sweater that has vodafone on it, something bad will happen.

Vodafone is a virus in many different shapes and forms.

After 3 complaints, including waiting/talking on the phone with a "technician" in Mumbai I either do not get voicemail messages at all or if I do, I get them 24 hours late. One was for a medical problem so I was really annoyed as it was received on the Saturday necessitating a 2 day wait to contact the doctor.
With Mumbai's assistance we have reset voicemail 3 times to no avail.
I also have virtually no connection in my home and need to walk outside to get minimal coverage. I was with V/fone 10 years ago and I think the reception and service was a lot better.
I have 12 months left on the contract.
23 Jun 2011 11:45:46 PM: You have given Vodafone plenty of opportunity to sort out their issues now it's time for the TIO. Check out the 'how to complain' page for their details. They will force Vodafone to solve the problem.

18504 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Shocking at 23 Jun 2011 01:17:46 AM
I have been on vodafone for about 3 years now and it was fine unroll about December 2010, since then I am very lucky to get more than 2 bars signal, in that time iv had a nokia, iPhone 3 and 4 and there is no difference. I rely on the phones gps and Internet browser for work but usually have to wait minutes for pages to load. I honestly can't see how one of Australia's biggest mobile network providers can have such poor coverage, they need to sort their sh*t out

18503 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is HUGE FAIL at 22 Jun 2011 09:34:37 PM
Vodafone have consistently for the past 6 months NOT sent me bills. I receive a text message explaining I have a massive amount owing on my bills (at one point I had 4 months worth of bills owing which I had called about and they said they'd sent and would re-send) then we do this dance where I call, they say they sent the bill, I tell them they didn't then they say they won't barr my phone but the next day my phone is cut off.
I have been a vodafone customer for 10 years and they have turned out to be THE WORST provider ever.
I always liked Vodafone because I never had to deal with Indian call centres 0 oh how that has changed! Language barriers, communication breakdowns and many other problems only lead to HUGE PROBLEMS!
To add to the bill mishap I am also dealing with (as I now see other vodafone customers are too) constant drop outs in reception, text messages not coming through and no 3G reception. I live innercity Brisbane - not bumfrig nowhere! There is no excuse for 1 call taking 6 attempts to connect and maintain connection! To a landline! Vodafone = vodafail!!!!

Laugh ! I have given up using my prepaid broadband dongle as it is slower than a dial up connnection and has constant data dropouts.
So very disappointing. Vodafone as a company should be euthanased.

18493 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Getting worse on Lwr North Shore at 22 Jun 2011 09:16:54 AM
My partner and I have been with VF for at least 6 years, living on lower north shore that whole time. While I was never overly amazed at their overall service, we never noticed having bad coverage or delayed SMS transmission... Even when the big media blowup about how bad some people were finding it happened, I never found it all that bad. But since they've been blowing their horn about how they're "making big changes and improvements" the service in this area has been getting MUCH worse.

My pet theory: They're removing infrastructure from parts of sydney where there's not too many complaints and installing it in high-complaint regions. That's certainly what it seems to be.

Anyway, goodbye vodafone, I've stuck with you for many years just because it was too much effort to look around and/or change, but I'm not locked into a contract and you're fired.

18474 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is No service at 21 Jun 2011 12:44:57 PM
Told today when I went to shop to cancel service [called VF twice yesterday] that their network was being upgraded in my area and work would not finish for another two months. I was on a month to month plan but the sales rep I was connected to by phone in store insisted I HAD TO PAY FOR THE MODEM I OWNED OUTRIGHT. This was because I was a customer with VF but due to declining network availability and customers info being hacked got out of contract.

This morning could only get a 2g connection. Days before today either no connection or one page would load then nothing. Did a ozspeedtest.com test and it said I had downloaded GB/s in 0/s that's right 0 seconds. Wonder how this compares to the speed of light! Yesterday there was a recorded message saying they were having difficulties with their accounting system. Not surprised. Imagine what your bill would be like.

Just posting in case others have had this experience and VF keep trying to troubleshoot YOUR problem. Quite frankly their network is stuffed in Mansfield Qld and has been since earlier this year [~Feb/March]. Thought I'd give them another shot in vain hope that after MONTHS their network would be fixed. Not so.
21 Jun 2011 04:08:14 PM: Thanks for letting everyone know, if Vodafone can't fix it then you should be able to get out of your contract and find another provider. Goodluck!

18463 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Total fail at 20 Jun 2011 12:13:44 PM
Just moved to Wyndham Vale, VIC and their website shows it should have coverage in that area as they have just finished building the new network in Werribee. I don't have any network 95% of the times. When I do and try make a call gets dropped out in the middle of the call. Really annoying. I have complained to them and someone supposed to contact me but hasn't heard from them since.
20 Jun 2011 03:26:00 PM: They can't get through on their own bad network hahahah fail on both ends
31 Aug 2011 02:41:24 PM: I went to Wyndham Vale in August 2011 to check out my new home that is being constructed. Due to be completed in October 2011 and moving in straight away. I had no Vodafone signal at all on my HTC, neither did my husband on his iPhone (Vodafone network). I'm locked into a 24-month plan with 18-months left to go. What a waste!!! Boo Vodafone
21 Sep 2011 11:36:04 AM: I'm in the Wyndham Green Estate. I bearly get the new 850 signal (1-2bar)...It's funny I get 850 signal at the back of my house and when I'm at the front standing out next to the street my phone switches to the 2100Mhz signal just 1 bar on my phone. So yeah I get drop outs as well :(

18461 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Can we say fraud? at 20 Jun 2011 09:40:47 AM
Finally got free of Vodafone today. I have posted previously on this site but I'd like to share the final chapter, which might be of interest to a lot of you. Since end of Nov 2010 my mobile broadband service [to Chippendale, NSW 2008] has been just awful. Wrote to the ombudsman and in February Vodafone got back to me that I was released from my 24 month contract and that they would waive my final bill. Didn't get around to finding a new ISP but finally called Vodafone at end of April seeking a cancellation. The lady offered to take $10 of my monthly spend and to send me the newest modem free of charge. I thought I'd give them one last try - alas, there was no improvement in performance. Switched to vividwireless, which works really well. Phoned vodafone today to cancel, and the rep told me that they were aware of a specific problem in my area, that would be resolved by start of August; offered that if I didn't cancel, they would waive my spend for the next three months. So...my question is this:

In the seven months since I started having difficulties, why was I never informed of this specific problem before? On numerous occasions, the reps have expressly informed me that there are no coverage issues in or around my address.
And, of course, for the majority of those seven months, Vodafone have charged me the full rate of $39 per month.

I feel that Vodafone knowingly misled me and I encourage others to contact the ombudsman as soon as possible!
27 Jun 2011 11:12:19 AM: I do too. They were still signing up customers in my area even though it has not had a decent reception since ~ February, shortly after they joined to '3'.

Have to walk a block from the house to get reception. No service despite in initiating Global Roaming prior to an recent Overseas trip. 121 VoiceMail service not operating overseas. Charged $86 for Internet usage yet have no signal most of the time and do not use the service as it drops out or is dreadfully slow.
Cannot find anyone responsible to air my complaint except gentlemen and ladies based in India who have no idea what it means to be in Australia and are generally unsympathetic as the problems I am having bear little relationship to the life they are leading.

For about 2 weeks now my Vodafone Mobile Broadband internet will not work. It will connect and take data from me as normal but it wont load any web pages or anything... I called Vodafone 10 different times with no solution, they acted like it was only my problem and that they had no idea why their coverage is so bad. Rahahahajinu told me that my area only has outdoor coverage (I can only use it outdoors) I said that I had been using it for 5months inside a house in my area with very minor problems but nothing this bad... He was surprised that this happened but I still got no solution. He then said that he checked my area and stated that they are doing some work on towers, updating them etc. I went to the Yodafone website and did the update checker for my area and it was clearly stated that no update or work was going on in my area..... Was he just lieing to me so he could get me off the phone? I don't know what to do about this and am losing money......
