26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

I have to wait until June 2012 for an antenna to be installed near my house for coverage. What do i do in the mean time? Keep paying my $55p/m for limited phone usage if at all?
The Australian government should step in and do something. Look after your own people.
Also i have 3 wireless internet. 3 is converting to vodafone. In the past week i have had troubles opening sites and pictures on websites (archidaily) dont load at all.
Im lucky im on the month to month payment and no contract. Optus, here i come!!

23 Aug 2011 01:35:00 PM: I too want something done about vodafone. it's disgusting that the ACCC hasn't said a word, the ACMA has hardly moved a finger, and there hasn't been a public inquiry into this.

we all need to write to our local ministers!

19226 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is 100% FAIL at 23 Aug 2011 10:01:32 AM
When vfone took over 3, instant fail. no reception where previously there was receotion, except now it is NO SERVICE for days
23 Aug 2011 10:16:35 AM: Not long after they took over 3, they removed 3's base station at Clear Island Waters, after they did that, signal reception here in Bronte Crt, Robina went from 4-5 bars to 2-3 bars and their mobile broadband became completely unusable during peak times.

Absolutely pathetic. They should have their Telecommunications license withdrawn, preventing them from signing up new mobile broadband customers onto their already congested network, until they have acceptable network performance. Everything about Australia is so backwards and retarded, although I'm quite impressed with the performance of the Telstra NextG network so far, averaging 230kb/s to over 300kb/s on the ozspeedtest.com speed tests. Mind you, back home in civilization, 3G's is being phased out in favour of 4G, most metro and urban areas back home have 4G coverage, and even out in the sticks you rarely get under 4 bars of signal strength, with the exception of a few tunnels and up in the mountains, it gets marginal from time to time. Going to be so great to be going back home soon. No more Gillard, no more crazy spiralling-out-of-control cost of living, just the usual ups and downs, was trying to figure why the hell anybody would want to come and live and work in Australia, but then all these boat people come from places where they're either being shot at, or face starvation.... it's all about perspective and what you've been used to.

19225 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is epic fail --> last straw !!! at 23 Aug 2011 09:40:56 AM
Goodbye Vodafone. Has the audacity to charge me for excess usage, I supposedly used 5.5Gb of data on Aug 14, when in reality used about 150Mb in the 2hrs I was on-line, turned device on, went online, checked usage and wrote in diary, switched device off and went to be. COMPLAINT LODGED WITH T.I.O. TODAY ! They even charged me for usage when I was up at Maryborough, staying at Tinana where they have NO SERVICE, and over the 3 days I supposedly chewed up around 3Gb of Vodafone's data, even through the device was in my laptop bag, and turned off, not used due to lack of network coverage, so I used my friends' pre-paid Telstra NextG (and was very impressed with their network speed).

Did the unthinkable yesterday and walked into Telstra store Robina and signed up to their NextG 'ultimate' business plan, $49/mth for 7Gb and the Sierra 753S Aircard.

www.ozspeedtest.com - did a speed comparison (3Mb file speed test)
Test#1: 0630 today : location: Bronte Crt, Robina
VodaFraud: 72Kb/s
Telstra NextG: 304Kb/s
location: Bronte Crt, Robina
Test#2: 0930 today : location: Max Brenner's, Robina Town Centre
VodaFraud: 102kb/s (a little bit better)
Testra NextG: 317kb/s

VODAFONE - YOU SUCK ! goodbye vodafone.
PS: Telstra $49/7Gb is a business plan, you need an ABN - and you get the WiFi device for free
If you don't have an ABN, the stand-alone cost is $59/mth for 7Gb, and you have to pay $299 for the device up-front, but you get a credit of about $250 in your 1st or second bill I'm told, and the device is network locked. Mine is unlocked under the business plan. Just tried it with the VodaFone SIM, works fine, but no improvement in network performance over the Huawei E585 pocket wi-fi. Same readings.
If you have multiple Telstra services, you can get your $59.95/7Gb plan for as little as $39.95

23 Aug 2011 09:51:13 AM: when I went into the Robina Telstra shop, I asked to do a speed comparison test in a real-life situation with my laptop, their rep Pat was most helpful.
The real-life situation was logging into my sendoutcards.com site, going to main menu, create card, create picture plus card, upload a 3.3Mb photo, drag photo into front panel of card, then stop timer.
On Vodafone, this process took 4min25sec
Pat turned on the Telstra NextG little black wifi, gave me the security code, I refreshed back to the main page, start timer, same sequence as above, the whole process took 1min4sec.

Data consumed for this operation: 7.6Mb on Vodafone, 7.5Mb on Telstra - about the same, according to the data usage display on the respective devices.

There were 2 other telstra reps, and about 4 in-store customers watching this little test of mine, because another person there was enquiring about the telstra nextg service. When I said, that'll do for me, let's get started and sign me up, so did the other lady who was there enquiring about nextg.

25 Aug 2011 02:06:47 PM: Downloading 7.6MB in less than 5 minutes on Vodafone! That sounds like a huge improvement from what I used to experience, I'm sure many others still aren't that lucky.

19221 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is absence ofwap network in some places at 23 Aug 2011 03:53:06 AM
hullo sir, i had been using this vodafone for past 4 months, yeah it was working gr8, but right now whatever problem i had been facing ,it really feels like IT SUCKS, i took vodafone connection just because of its great internet speed, which is no doubt is true, but few days before when i shifted to a new place ,my vodafone gprs was still working gr8, but after 3 days i found that it stopped working out there, then i called to customer executives and you won't believe i had spend around 200 to 300 bucks for it,and no body gave me the perfect solution, except giving access point settings and all, and some time this bloody customer care executives used to play with me and used to keep me on hold for a long time and do not used to forward my call to the technical department ,then finally i went to the NOKIA promoter ,he took my phone ,and he inputted all the access point settings and then my vodafone gprs started working, he also told me that my phone is not going to support the vodafone gprs if i'll go to my house, because the place where iam staying doesn't supports the gprs ,yeah calls and messages would come but the gprs won't and actually it was right i faced the same problem because of network problem ,also in vodafone some unusual deductions used to happen through message and funnily the vodafone doesn't have any records for it,also just because of not supporting of gprs iam also in a loss +98 rupees ,so i request to rectify all these features for further development ,.,.else i would not recommend vodafone for use to any one of my friend,

19217 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Epic 3G Internet Fail at 22 Aug 2011 01:24:10 PM
My wife keeps calling me when she's out, and asks me to look stuff up on the internet, because her Vodafone 3G doesn't work.

I own EXACTLY the same phone as her but on a different network (one with lots of coverage... hint hint). I look-up the information she wants, then I text it to her.

Lame.

19211 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is my solution after this contract at 21 Aug 2011 11:32:17 AM
After this joke of a contract, im going to go to prepaid for the rest of my life.
optus / telstra turbo cap or what ever is on offer at the time and call cards from the newsagents for international calls.
at least you know then, if you dont like the service, reception etc, there is a $0 cancellation fee and you can budget your income every month rather then allowing an extra +$100 for the phone bill.
Also, a 3hr delay for a sms for me to pick up my mother from the train station on Friday, she was forced to go by taxi home :(
Ive received 1 ph call in the past 4 days, usually from 5 a day

20 Aug 2011 05:07:44 PM: The ACMA has released a large report on the changes they want Telcos to make but it will probably be a couple years before we see anything out of that. We (vodafail.com) have submitted our report to the ACMA, ACCC and ACCAN. Unfortunately, the only group that really has the power to do something (the ACCC) never replied.

19199 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is unfair at 18 Aug 2011 11:37:00 PM
i am a recent ex employee of vodafone. without going into details of how terribly unfair i was treated during this process i just wanted to let anyone reading this know that their are ways to work around the system, sometimes it just takes an insiders know how information.
as of about a 2 months ago vodafone introduced a new policy which allows managers and assistant mangers to issue credit onto contracts for disgruntled customers IN STORE, ON THE SPOT. not many people are aware that as of right now you can walk into a vodafone store and state they are not meeting their end of the contract (supplying customers with reliable service) therefore you do not have to meet yours (paying your bill). customers who said this line to my manager in store usually got their last months bill amount credited to their account. in other words the next month was usually free when people said this.

sometimes the manager would say they cant do anything for them blah blah im sure you have all heard it before however im telling you right now they are lying. i have seen it with my own eyes. more often than not customers who were aware that the manager had authority to credit the account got what they wanted. so some tips for you all
1. walk into store and state that service has been terrible - slow speeds and drop outs work best because it cant be proved wrong using coverage checker. the staff member who served you will usually get coverage checker up so say you travel around through multiple post codes. that way they cant blame outages. your word against theres.
2. if your declined keep going back in and make sure you state you are aware the manager can give you a FPR
3. if they still decline you credit try another store. in the end its the managers decision to credit so keep going until you find someone dumb enough to do it ( my manager certainly was. remember be persistent.
4.repeat as many times as you can. continuation of this process can often lead to cancellation fees being waived because head office get sick of crediting people accounts.

boom. goodluck guys. stick it to the pricks.
19 Aug 2011 01:54:50 PM: I do not like Voadone at all but you have just proven in one posting that you are just as bad as them as you are suggesting that we commit fraud by doing 'it as many times as possible'

Sounds like vodafone is better off without you and the sooner that people like you leave the sooner they might have some good staff that start listening to customers.

Disgusted by your post!
19 Aug 2011 03:51:25 PM: 19 Aug 2011 01:54:50 PM

you lost your right to be disgusted at anyone when you decided to work for Voda.

Vodafone is a scam and everyone knows it. If you work for them you deserve to go to jail just like people in organised crime. You steal people's money or use extortion with threats of debt collectors et al. You are a disgrace, a con-artist, and a criminal low-life. The OP at least came to his senses - Vodafone is a fraud, and the authorities that fail to crack down on it let down our whole country (7 million customers - seriously, when will the government step in?)

In any case, I hope you see that just like the mafia and all other criminals, Vodafone staff are idiots who use scams, extortion, and other criminal methods to extract profit from honest, hard-working and unassuming members of the community. They do no good for society, and only seek to line their own pockets no matter what the expense to others. And just like members of organised crime and other breeds of criminals, rest assured, their time will come.

19196 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is shit at 18 Aug 2011 09:42:14 PM
I have finished my contract with Vodafone (finally, reception is shit and calls kept dropping out), have gone to Virgin, and Vodafone has blocked my phone , supposedly for 4 business days (Why??? God only knows!). It is now day 5 and I still am without a phone. Keep checking my emails to see if they have send me the code to unblock it. I mean, how long can it take to send someone a code?!? In the meantime I have lost all info on mu iPhone, all my photos, all my apps, my calender,no idea if I can restore all this when I get my phone working again.
I've been told I can't even ring anyone to complain, it's just the website, and I have to be patient!!!
18 Aug 2011 10:37:33 PM: you CAN call someone to complain :)

19195 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Horrible reception at 18 Aug 2011 08:21:47 PM
It seems no matter when or where in Canberra I make a call, the call quality is horrible. I want out. I haven't contacted Vodafone about this yet. Do you think I will have much luck getting out of my 2yr contract after 6mths for bad reception?
18 Aug 2011 09:32:44 PM: definitely.

step 1: make a complaint here: http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp (takes 5 minutes).

step 2: tell them the situation and say you want out (for free) - they have to give it to you because they couldn't keep their side of the deal

step 3: tell all your friends/family NEVER to go with Vodafail ever, ever again. write a letter to your minister telling them how much time of yours it wasted so they can launch a public inquiry into Voda's disgraceful conduct.

After the usual dropped calls and lack of reception, messed up bills I received a new phone to keep me as a customer however the bad service has just escalated. My sim activation is 'stuck' in the 'system' and so I without any service for 24 hours. They can't get one thing right, any other provider would surely be able to provide a better service.. Don't even get me started on the staff, I was told there is no complaints department but they can 'note' it down.

been using their 3g broadband with reasonable success for 2 years, up until 2 days ago when 3g signal disappeared and cannot be found, and EDGE is too slow to be worthwhile even trying...3 calls to vodafone, 3 times being told that i don't get 3g coverage and 1 idiot telling me to buy a new 850mhz modem that i know definitely wont work in regional n.s.w...what is wrong with this picture??? omg i hope i don't have to go back to those losers at optus.....
18 Aug 2011 06:12:24 PM: it's not the modem....it's a combination of inferior equipment and Vodaphones own system....I am running a IINET modem with Vodaphone sim and constantly getting HSDPA all the time since I did it....

19183 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is pretty bad at 18 Aug 2011 02:24:21 PM
All my SMS are coming through delayed by a day or more.

I am overseas, on roaming -- which I thought would be good as I am not having to rely on the patchy vodafone network in Sydney... where I get one bar and signal dropouts only a couple of kilometres from Paramatta.

It's not the fault of the roaming now, my colleague back in Sydney is getting the delays too...

Let's riot in Vodafone offices ( ... that's a joke, cops)

19182 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Monolithical at 18 Aug 2011 01:56:29 PM
Well I WAS with Three and they suck. I could never get reception at my place, then it would roam to Vodafail network, then it would drop out when I moved my phone. Fail again.

So I rang up to cancel my contract and low and behold it still in my Dad's name, even though we changed it over to my name several years before that. So I had to wait Three weeks before I could get it in my name so I could disconnect.

The day finally came when I could change over to Telstra Freedom Connect Plan. I do this after an hour on the phone. Then I get a nice email saying that I have been billed $49 for an extra day of usage. This extra day was on the day of the swap, I used a Wopping 8MB of data and no calls or text. I then got a second bill for another $20. So I rang up Three. After half an hour waiting then half an our of talking I was finally able to get $20bill wavered but I still had to pay my $49 for a few hours usage.

I am now away from Vodafail and Three and never regret the decision for a bit. I have a HTC Desire S on the Telstra next G network and I always have reception, full bars in my house. I always like to do small speed tests in places I never got Three reception and low behold I can pull at least 100KB/s every time.

After all Three put me through and the crappy network I swear that myself and my children will never use Three and VodaFail crappy services.

Three sucks in Three ways here:
* Three weeks screwing me around
* Three extra bills for one month
* Three+ years of my own ignorance

I had two phone interviews with prospective employers cut out on me because of the s**t reception I have on my vodafone mobile. Now I can't get back in touch with one of them.... Seriously.... Vodafone need to make it clear to customers that reception in some areas, namely outside of major CBD's is very bad. Do sign up for any of their s**t services. Just one heart break after another with these people!

19178 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is sad degeneration to abysmal service at 18 Aug 2011 08:33:01 AM
I left vodafone after being with them since 1994. I had been persisting with ridiculous service, coverage and drop outs until I became ill. I spent 7 days alone in my house unable to travel. I was unable to conduct business via the mobile. Reception has always been poor with drop outs, Ive lived with it making the call backs when I am on the road. Not being able to use the phone for that time was a serious health and business issue for me.

I paid an amount up front to minimise the exit charge on a phone to $300ish. After months of drop outs and years of dealing with Lara I went to Telstra. I assumed that churning the number cancelled the service at vodafone. Thats was the case with my wife. I have a bill for $1297 including $990 for a cancelation fee. They tell me had I called them before churning they done something however it is now too late now. Add my voice to the clamour. Sad really, they were the best customer service company I had ever dealt with 10 years ago. That acolade no goes to AAMI!!!
18 Aug 2011 09:27:39 AM: That doesn't sound fair, they are the ones charging you and they can decide to charge you less. It would be good to file a complaint with the TIO. In the complaint form you can dispute a bill and someone from Vodafone will call you within 10 days.

The TIO will actually fine Vodafone until the bill is fixed to your satisfaction.

Signed up to a 24 month contract with VF, assured that my coverage would be perfect. Not the case. 6 months in I was told that I could cancel my contract without any exit fee's. Chose to cancel and now I'm hit with a $650 exit fee. Now I have to go and get this mess resolved. Seriously? Thanks Vodafail.

19176 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is wont let me terminate my contract at 17 Aug 2011 04:38:44 PM
vodafone wont let me cancel my contract because they "launched an investigation into my poor reception, no internet connection no calls and texts n found that its probabaly my fault and that i will be charged the full fee for exiting early. vodafone is actually the worst service i have ever receievd from any company in my life. in fact im hoping that more people leave vodafone that way i may be the only customer and maybe i will actually get internet and be able to recieve calls. does anybody know how i can get out of my contract without paying the full fee?????? i really really hate vodafone and im not suprised they lost over 370,000 customers in 6 months alone.
17 Aug 2011 05:38:29 PM: yes. make a complaint here: http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp

they will call you within 10 days. argue a bit, and they'll let you out without paying anything.
30 Aug 2011 06:22:53 PM: still not reply. absolutely disgusting service, i will make another complaint. i heard last in the first 6 months of this year they lost over 300, 000 customers hahah what a joke.

It's never nice to receive a bill higher than you expect, I'm sure I can help solve what is causing it with you. Sounds like you're educated and aware of the billing corrections recently made and the effect they've had on previously unbilled data services and I appreciate you posting what has happened to date.

We'll be able to look into what may be causing the data use and ensure it's avoided in the future. You mentioned that you don't use any services that are related to the billing corrections made (Peer to Peer, VoIP and Secure HTTP), however some applications and sites may communicate via secure HTTP as part of normal operation and previously you wouldn't have been billed for the data used. This can increase the amount of data you're billed for, even though you haven't changed your usage style/habits. You also mentioned you're in an area of reduced 3G coverage; the coverage checker gives an indication of expected network performance, but you certainly may be able to retrieve data at that location.

You mentioned that data sessions were listed during times that you were either at work or asleep; whilst this may seem like an error, there is a high possibility that if your handset is switched on, it can be retrieving data in the background. This could be an application checking for updates, or simply checking in and letting the application server know you're still around. These small increments of data use will extend a session time over a long period.

If you can let me know what model of handset you're using I can give you information on how to stop background tasks and help eliminate extra data usage. Do you know how much extra data you used overall? We've got a range of mobile internet packs to add to your data quota if you think you'll be using all your allocation next month, you can see these packs on our website here.

I'm sure we'll be able to solve this for you and help ensure you don't receive an unexpectedly high bill again.

19156 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is In all aspects! at 16 Aug 2011 11:19:33 AM
I signed up sadly 5weeks ago not knowing the joke of a service i would get.
I have reception in 2 rooms of my house and thats just one bar and not clear signal when i talk.
I sms my friend literally 3 houses up from me and they dont get the message for 40minutes,
when i want to call someone, i wait upto 1minute for the call connection before it rings,
i called customer service and i invited them to come to my house and experience what i am getting, they said "we have no technicians in your area" and they would do a reception check on the website......of course the website is made to make them look perfect with great coverage
Their 3G is non existent in my area, and when i get it (while in Sydney), their net is soo slow
I have been late to uni presentations numerous times from not receiving (backup) wake up calls from a mate.
Other friends ask me why is my phone turned off all the time, (it never is)
all this after 5weeks.
ill be crying for the next 23months :(
16 Aug 2011 04:50:41 PM: It's not to late actually. File a complaint with Vodafone and tell them that this isn't what you signed up for. Make a note of all the problems and if they still don't let you out (without forcing you to pay) then you can go to the TIO.

Goodluck!

19155 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Frustrating wasting time at 16 Aug 2011 07:31:01 AM
As usual, very poor network coverage in northern victoria. Complaints many times and wasting at least one hour for each call but no problem. I told them to terminate my contract but they suggested I transfer my account to Three which has better network coverage. But still, I am wasting many hours just to transfer the account to three. Even yesterday afternoon, vodafone customer care can't contact me due to bad network coverage and sent sms instead. Now they have retaining department who always try to persuade frustrated customers not to terminate the contracts. feeling sick with this provider. WTF

19148 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is massive fail at 15 Aug 2011 01:55:33 PM
Massively inadequate coverage in 4069 Queensland (Kenmore, Chapel Hill etc....). No 3G (what the... the suburbs are 7 kms from the CBD). You ring Vodafail to complain and they say there is no problem. Hello? You rang me back on my home line because my call dropped out more than once - how is there no problem.

Anyone else with the same problem in the Western Suburbs of Brisbane and what dd you do about it?
17 Aug 2011 06:58:30 AM: VODAFONE are working as hard as they can on their network at the moment & are rolling out the new 850mhz towers, they are trying to get to every customer as fast and efficently as they possibly can, your call drops outs can be due to a numerous amount of factors, your sim could be faulty and i would advise you go into a store and swap it for a new sim, your area has an 850mhz network already up and running so your handset may not be 850 compatible which can be resolved in by either going into a VODAFONE store or calling MUMBAI to work out a deal with you on how you can get the best service possible. VODAFONE are not just sitting there twiddeling their thumbs they have the best network team working as fast as they can with the new towers, upgrading existing towers and replacing the towers equipment with huawei - number one leading brand. the 1 billion dollar investment in the network is showing all through QLD. if you don't have it yet you will - thats guaranteed. VODAFONE can only help you if you take the first step in wanting to help yourself - first choice would be walk into a store.
18 Aug 2011 03:47:23 PM: Excuses, excuses.

18 Aug 2011 03:47:29 PM: Excuses, excuses.
I hated Telstra for their crap customer service.
The only thing worse than crap customer service is crap network service.
26 Aug 2011 08:44:56 AM: Is that even a reply from an actual Vodafone representative - I doubt it.
30 Aug 2011 08:06:48 AM: 850MHz offers superior coverage over 2100MHz so it is well suited to the 'bush' or rural Australia. North America is the only other major country using this technology, it's something like a 60% reduction in the number of cell sites required for a UMTS 850 network when compared to UMTS 2100 for the same coverage footprint.
UMTS850 also offers better penetration into buildings than UMTS2100. Once Vodacrap's upgrade of their base stations to 850Mhz is complete, there should be a significant improvement in the quality of service, but only if your handset is 850Mhz compatible, having said that though, the migration of customers onto the 850Mhz band should see a significant reduction in congestion on their current 2100Mhz networks.

Remains to be seen how close to Telstra's coverage Vodafone will get once their rollout is complete, because Telstra still have substantially more base stations than any other network in Australia. Telstra does have a bit of an unfair advantage in their ability to provide base stations as they own significant infrastructure, and are using many existing DCRS sites in rural areas, whereas Vodacrap and Schlopptus have to put in their own, or lease roof space on a building.

19145 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is BAD at 15 Aug 2011 09:26:25 AM
After a phone call that lasted 1 1/2 hrs to cancel my account with Vodafone due to no service coverage, I lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman (TIO)to have early termination charges waived. This was followed up with another 1/2 an hr phone call with Vodafone discussing the cancellation of my account and return of my internet modem sticks. I find that almost 2 months later I'm still being billed! So called up and spent another 45 mins on the phone being transferred to several different operators in India and Australia to question why after 3 specific requests to close the account, I'm still being billed! Finally I have someone say they closed the account and waived the charges. The charges were only waived once I threatened to go to the ombudsman again. I will NEVER EVER EVER use Vodafone again. Not only is their product pathetic, their service is HOPELESS! Kids in yr 3 would be more effective at managing their customer service than they are.
16 Aug 2011 08:53:06 AM: Once I sent my complaint to TIO I no longer communicated with VF as it was too frustrating. I let TIO handle all matters, keeping them informed by email with any updates.

19112 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Crap with a capital "C" at 10 Aug 2011 10:37:37 PM
Live in Como in the Sutherland Shire of NSW. Have had poor reception for past few years, but recently moved and now have intermittent coverage at best. I run a business from home and have calls drop out or divert to voicemail on a daily basis. Have been calling Vodafone to complain every month or so. Since the move (May) they have offered half price for three months, then after further complaint free for three months, asking me to please be patient as they are doing major upgrades. However, they still insist that my address has great coverage. Yet they are referring the complaint for "investigation". Was told in June to wait until the end of July and if not resolved then could terminate my contract without fees and return handset (HTC Desire HD). Upon calling them on 4th August was told "we can see you haven't been using your handset. How do you know your coverage hasn't improved? We can't cancel your contract. My answer: The phone is switched on every day and I can see the number of bars has not improved. I don't make any outgoing calls (why would I?) - have a second handset for outgoing on Amaysim (uses Optus network and coverage is quite good). People still call me on my Voda phone and the calls still drop out, go straight to voicemail, or they can't hear me.
Anyway, insisted on speaking with a supervisor. Was told they would call back in 24-48 hours. I said that wasn't good enough. They insisted a supervisor would call back within 24-48 hours. A supervisor did call me back about an hour later. Resolved to hold on for two more weeks (until 18th Aug) and if no improvement can terminate with no exit fees. The matter has again been referred to investigations - as a priority this time! What was it the last few times?
I have reviewed the Vodafone blog about their upgrades. I can see there is a planned upgrade in an adjacent suburb (Jannali) for Q3 2011, but it is not noted under the "sites in testing and planned to come On-Air in next couple of weeks".
I am not confident of any improvement by the 18th. I will not be taking "no" for an answer this time!
I have downloaded several apps to help monitor my coverage. I click on "OpenSignal" app every couple of hours and it generally reports between 23% and 37% signal strength.
Does anyone know of an app that can tell the strength of other networks at a location without having to get another sim?
I will probably go with Amaysim once I am out of Vodafone as I am not keen to enter another contract. For $39.90 a month can get unlimited talk and text +4Gb data. That will do me fine.
PS hubby just got iPhone 4 on Telstra NextG and has not lost a single call yet.
PPS I am not even trying to get web / email on my phone - I just want to be able to make and receive calls.
PPS I must say that my time on hold waiting for Vodafone customer service has not been too bad and the staff, if anything, have been overly helpful and apologetic. They just haven't been able to fix my problem.
11 Aug 2011 04:25:53 PM: Same situation as me. I have moved my other phone that have come off contract to live connected, but every time I call them about cancelling my contract as they have promised, they keep finding an excuse to delay.

Also, 1555 hardly ever seems to work!
3 Dec 2011 05:39:13 PM: I live in Jannali and have been going through the same stuff for 12 months. I explain it is killim
Ng my business but they seem to think that charging me half price will keep me happy. They don't seem to understand that their phone service DOES NOT work! Latest is jannali upgrade in January well see if it doesn't I'm out.

Has anyone had problems with the Nokia E5? I have had countless trips and calls to Vodaphone because of handset failures (like hangs and restarts mid call, mid text or internet page). After much grief, and only 3 months into a 24 month contract, I "begged" or a replacement phone when the Vodafone store staff, despite being very nice, coudn't even set up the email to get it to work (after 2 trips to the technicians to be software updated/reloaded -why on a brand new phone?). In the swap the the fantastic (so far) Samsung Nexus, Vodafone now want to charge me an extra $5 a month because the phone is "worth more" (both were on teh $29 cap). Apparently, among the harrassment calls from All Phone telephone sales to renew my contract, they offered me a Combo Deal with the USB of internet access. I have registered my disatisfaciton with the store in question and have now submitted a complaint to the TIO. I have had more use out of my old Nokia phone in the past 3 months because the E5 is always away being fixed or is just too unreliable. Yes, I have service problems too and I work in the CBD, in Newcastle recently, only in range for about an hour but I am hopeful that the promise of fixing their network is true. I can put up with that, but the insult of so much inconvenience then being charged an extra amount for the next 21 months was too much for me. The staff have tried hard including the help desk in Mumbai (who offered a small credit for loss of phone the 2nd time it had to be sent away). They must be so sick of the negativity everyday; I feel sorry for them.

Been trying to get an explanation as to why im paying $80 a month for a service that only works 50% of the time. This has been going on for months now and they still have not resolved the issue. To make matters worse i went overseas for a month and fell behind on my payments, my phone is now barred - i asked them to kindly un bar it as i will make payments weekly and they are sticking to their guns and making me pay the full amount before i can use my phone again. $80 a month for a network that hardly works and now they have the balls to barr my service because i fell behind payments. No comprimisation, What a joke. What can i do ??
17 Aug 2011 07:07:51 AM: You falling behind in your payments is Vodafone's issue how ? when you signed the form you were signing an agreement that you would pay your bills on time and a month in advance and they only way vodafone will bar your account is if you have not paid two months bills in a row. So i fail to see how Vodafone is responsible for this.

Been with Throwdafone for about 5 years. Early on they were fine, over the past few years their service has been totally shitful. Absolutely disgraceful.
I reside less than 2kms from the CBD in a capital city and the service is patchy, mostly drops out, I have to go into my backyard to take and make calls.
I have to sit my phone on my kitchen table at an odd angle to receive any net coverage. Pages drop out or are hideously slow.

Your service is inept, fraudulent and pathetic Vodafail.

19102 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Pocket wifi - very low speed at 9 Aug 2011 11:37:10 AM
I got Vodafone Pocket Wifi 2 mobile broadband modem on Aug 8th 2011 and was very disappointed with the download speeds I am getting from it. I used www.speedtest.net to check the speed and the peak speed I am getting is only 0.6 mbps !! Average speed is even lower :-( I am using this device in Parramatta, Sydney and the Vodafone coverage map shows excellent coverage. Following is my observation on the environment
1. Signal strength on the mobile modem shows 5 bars which is the maximum best
2. Network connection shows 'H' meaning HSDPA. I suppose this connection is better than 3G
3. Only one device connected to the mobile broadband
4. Signal strength on my laptop is again 5 bars which is the maximum best

Vodafone website says that the speeds will range from 300 kbps to 3 Mbps but will vary according to the signal strength in the house. I am getting the best signal possible but the peak download speed is just 600 kbps which actually is terribly bad. I was expecting a speed atleast 1.5 Mbps

This is very unfair and not according to the promises made by Vodafone. I will be returning back my set to Vodafone and switch back providers
10 Aug 2011 12:35:50 PM: u paid money 4 it, now not happy & u found this web site to vent. should have done more research & u wouldnt be out of pocket. i just wish people would stop buying stuff from this gr8 company.

19100 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is epic expensive fail at 9 Aug 2011 09:51:38 AM
My email to vodafone:
Dear Vodafone,

your coverage is the worst out of any network I have ever used.

How you can call what you provide as a 'service' is beyond me. The past 3 weeks experience has been worse than normal, costing me time, urgent communication and money. Your total lack of consistency is beyond a joke.

After having an initial issue with my previous number I stupidly have kept using your prepaid while my issue is pending.

As soon as I can resolve everything with your business I will be changing service provider immediately.

I will be doing the same for the fleet I currently have set up in our office.

You guys are a joke!

Reply from Vodafone:
In order to assist with account related queries, please provide your 4 digit PIN number (the pin is the one you selected for your account when you connected to Vodafone), as well as your Mobile Phone Number. This will authorise a Vodafone agent to access your account.

Please note: if you have received this response and you already provided the PIN and Mobile Number/ your question is not account related/ you are a Non-Vodafone Customer please reply to this email via your inbox, otherwise your email will not be submitted to our correspondence queue.

If this is a new email in response to an existing email query, please update the existing email and do not submit a new one. This is to ensure we receive your update correctly.

My reply to Vodafone:
Dear Vodafone,

I do not have a pin on my prepaid service.

How about you do your job and provide a proper service instead of wasting more of my time.

The amount of money and time you have already cost me, due to such abhorrent coverage and service, is a disgrace. Not to mention the amount of money wasted on connection fees from having to call back numbers up to 5 times, mid conversation.

I am still waiting to hear from the Vodafone Ombudsman in regard to my existing plan, which you charged me over $2000 for, for uses that are physically not possible with your coverage. This issue has been ongoing for close to 5 months, and you still continue to charge me for a service I no longer use, that you cut connection to 3 months ago.

No less than 5 of my family and friends have had exactly the same problem with being overcharged for phone usage and also had to wait months until you resolved the problem, during which time you emailed them to tell them that it was a one off situation. Fortunately for me I no longer receive the highly upsetting calls from Vodafone on a daily basis telling me that I need to pay you or you will cut me off, as you have disconnected my plan, but never attempted to resolve the questioned excessive charges from your end.

After countless failed attempts to resolve the issue with you, and after being cut off from your overseas customer call centre, and hung up on by many staff who did not understand my complaint, I am still waiting for you to resolve my initial issue. I assume at some point someone will get back to me, but based on your coverage, I would have to guess that you are finding it difficult to get in contact with me.

Vodafone reply:

still pending.

19098 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is not using its own network if it can't recognise the issues at 9 Aug 2011 12:57:06 AM
Vodafail employees must not be using Vodafail network themselves because if they were they wouldn't act so ignorant and misleading about the issues and causes.
9 Aug 2011 01:01:49 AM: example - they ask the same questions of every customer with a widespread problem as if it's the first time they've heard of it !!

19095 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is F*cked at 8 Aug 2011 11:50:54 AM
i use to work for vodafone, while i worked for them not a single problem. i lost my job for advising a customer not to sign up with vodafone because they had no coverage were they are i advised them it may be better to sign up with telstra or someone with a bigger network.

Ever since my phone bills are always $300 but im on a $45 infinite plan and use crap all internet. now my ohone gets disconnected every month because they f*&% me around continuously. i do not understand why they do it do they honestly get people to sign up just to piss them of?

also while i worked there my partner of 5 years passed away they gave me two days off. i asked for more and i was turned down. i managed to get two weeks holidays so when i went on my holiday i et a phone call asking were i was? they explained they gave my holidays to somene who needed them more. i sued and got no were because their lawyers are so use to spinning crap they won
8 Aug 2011 12:49:42 PM: they fire you for being honest - i like that. that's how they get their snake-oil salespeople: weed out the honest ones so that only the dodgy ones remain - it's called "corporate culture".

you should be proud you didn't fit in there.. keep your chin up you deserve a lot better than to have to work for Vodafail it's a shameless company, and anyone with an ounce of integrity doesn't belong there. good on you for doing what's best by the customer, you were probably the only one there that ever did that.
11 Aug 2011 09:41:57 AM: i use to work for vodafone also in melbroune we use to spend ages tring to sort out indias problems they were going to close but we had to to stay on for another six months to try and help india out then got shown the door. They even hang up on us if we tried to get a customer help so what help is the poor customer going get. Maybe if they had not outsourced overseas (slave labour by the way) and never merged with 3 they would not be in the shambles they are. My advice to cutomers is do not touch vodafone they do not care unless they are making money
13 Aug 2011 09:59:34 PM: Interesting article....I always suspected Vodaphone were up to no good....I have been dealing with (PERSONAL DETAILS REMOVED) I would like some details to build a case against Vodaphone...the moderation team might be interested...but we think we have worked out why Vodaphone towers aren't working right

19092 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Not blocking IMEI at 7 Aug 2011 04:28:36 PM
My iPhone 4 was stolen last weekend, upon realising that my phone had been stolen I immediately phoned 1555 Customer Care, however every time I selected the 'lost of stolen phone' option the call cut out. I attempted to call for about 3 hours, then waited until the store opened the next day. I then went into the store, was 'greeted' by incompetent and rude staff who needed me to spell out what my issue was and what I wanted them to do. Finally they gave me a SIM swap but were also unable to get through on 1555 to block the IMEI, I left the store and continued to call the 1555 number, finally 20 hours later I got through and was informed my iPhone IMEI would be blocked within 48 hours, 7 days later and according to both ATMA and Vodafone my IMEI remains unblocked. I have phoned Vodafone numerous times and they are confirmed that they had not blocked it and had no idea why they couldn't do it. They continue to say they will escalate the issue and that they will phone me back, and yet they have not rectified the issue, nor has anyone who has said they will call me back done so. In the meantime for insurance reasons I asked VF to email me a copy of my contract, they said this would arrive in my inbox within 24 hours... 6 days later and nothing. This is one of many concerns I have with Vodafone, I have had 6 months of poor dataspeed and no reception despite working in the city and living 2 ks from the city... I am so over VF and I WILL get out of my contract.
7 Aug 2011 04:42:30 PM: ppl in the store get paid to make sales and couldn't care less what happens to you after you've signed the dotted line. You've tried contacting VF so now go here:
http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp

and they must get back to you within 10 days
10 Aug 2011 04:10:52 PM: That's not true. If you go into a store and politely ask the staff to help instead of yelling, MOST people in the vodafone STORES (not dealers) will be more than happy to help you as they get paid for being there regardless of what they're doing. I used to work in a CBD store and refused to help customers who were rude. Obviously not everyone is like this, so unfortunately those people have a bad experience.
12 Aug 2011 08:51:22 PM: how do you think customers felt after being lied to, placed on hold for total 20 hours on ten occasions, and after being conned, then not given a refund. gfys
17 Aug 2011 07:10:54 AM: 1. you need to realise that the store people are there to help you and your mood does rub off onto them, you come in yelling and screaming - no matter what your situation is they will give you shit service in return because who are you really to be yelling at them first thing in the morning for something they ARE NOT responsible for.
2. waste your time with the TIO because that will get you know where, vodafone have not breached their contract in anyway.
3. you have lost your phone blocking the imei only stops someone else from putting there sim card into it - you still don't get it back they can use it for videos, apps (if you have any) just the sim can not work inside it so you have not only wasted your time worrying about getting your imei blocked for no reason but you are carrying on and realistically blaming vodafone for you losing your phone.
4. want a copy of your contract - go into a vodafone store (calmly) and ask them (nicely) to print you off a copy.

19091 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Painfully FAIL at 7 Aug 2011 03:37:43 PM
I am in a $90 a month contract with vodafone and have experienced little to no reception since my signup to vodafone, i have reported the issue three times and each time they assign the call to a technician to investigate the issue and then im told there is nothing wrong.

In the mean time im still paying $90 a month for call dropouts, intermittent data issues even though 3G is available and nothing is being done about it.

I am seriously over the service and customer service offered by vodafone overall.

I live on Oxford St, Taylor Square in the buzzing, vibrant centre of the city of Sydney and I have little to no signal both for phone calls and on the 3g network at most times. It pains me to pay $70/month to Vodafone for a service I do not receive. Perhaps if I lived out in the deep, desolate outback it might be a little bit more understandable. I sent them an email telling them that I get no signal and how it pains me and I received NO response at all! Are they actually a telecommunication service or do they simply sell phone contracts with no actual service provision?
7 Aug 2011 04:46:36 PM: you pay, yet you don't receive. ask for your money back and if you spend more than 10 minutes on hold or if they flat-out refuse just complain here:

19085 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is MASSIVE FAIL at 6 Aug 2011 08:29:54 PM
I was overseas (In the USA) in late June and July and a week before I left, I went into a vodafail shop to get them to check that it was on international roaming and it would all be fine overseas. They assured me it was after checking my account and fixing it all up. I am a prepaid customer, and because I was going for a month I purchased $49 flexi credit hoping it would last the trip (note this has a 30 day expiry)

I get over to South Korea (stopover) and I noticed it didn't pick up signal to any network but because I was only there one day I didn't worry, thinking it would be okay once I reached New York.

New York - Day 1 no sms from Voda saying I'd joined an american network.
I tried manually selecting networks, it didn't work.

New York - Day 2 still no connection so I used hotel phone with a prepaid card to call up the vodafail overseas customer care number.

I get put on hold for ages, and I get transferred to different people each time having to explain to each person what was going on - no one saved details on file or told the next person. I explained that I was not able to receive/make INCOMING or OUTGOING calls and yet each different person would say to me "It's okay we'll give you a call back on your mobile once it's sorted" I had to practically yell at some of the customer service reps what I had said quite a few times "I CAN NOT RECEIVE CALLS"
Unfortunately the call cut out (I'm not sure if it was on their end or my end...) and I had to recall and start the process all over again.

The second call, I got trasnferred to SEVEN different reps. Finally through to the IT department (mind you I had to explain the situation again and again to all SEVEN reps grr!)
IT Department checked my account and notified me that it should be working and that my settings were all correct. Therefore not their problem. I explained that I had been in to the shop and they'd fixed it but my HTC Legend wasn't working and no they couldn't call me back cause my phone DID NOT RECIEVE INCOMING CALLS!
They put me on hold (about 20 times throughout my two hour conversation with the IT department) and said that they could try some trouble shooting with me over the phone.

They requested that I manually try selecting the network (which I did - even though I had tried this myself about 100 times since I'd arrived in NYC) that didn't work. Next they got me to dial all these codes (don't remember what they were called tho.. ) that didn't work. Then they told me the only option was to factory reset my phone and hope that worked. Because I was overseas, I didn't have my cables to back up my phone (this is a brand new phone too!) and so I'd loose all my photos which I'd just taken, all my numbers etc.

I did do what they suggested and factory restarted my phone. It didn't work either. I was starting to get quite annoyed by this stage - I really needed a phone while OS and didn't want to keep using the hotel phoen because it would charge me evry time I used a call card as well.

After TWO HOURS on the phone - the call dropped out and I lost them again.
I tried calling back, but couldn't get to the IT department and they told me to call back later (apparantly something happened in Mumbai and half the office was gone).

When I tried manually selecting network a couple of days later- it said "UNABLE TO SELECT NETWORK SIM/NETWORK ERROR CONTACT YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER"

I couldn't waste another two hours on the phone so I had to leave it till I returned to Australia.

When I got back on the first day back - I went in to a Vodafail shop and they told me that because I was prepaid they couldn't help me out and If I wanted to have my phone looked at it would take 4 weeks and they don't supply back up / replacement phones for prepaid customers.
I called the call centre once again and they said they didn't understand why my phone still wasn't working (even in Australia!) and that I must have damaged the phone.

My credit expired - even though I hadn't used it. I have since been forced to buy a new phone
(am now with Optus and have a brilliant iPhone 4) but I was so angry that I spent all that time and worry about a phone and money on credit when I hadn't used any of it and it expired.
6 Aug 2011 09:37:51 PM: I just realised how long that post was apologies guys my voda rant gah

19076 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Mega Fail at 6 Aug 2011 09:32:46 AM
My Vodafail story:

I moved over to Vodafail in may last year, and went with a HTC Magic. My fiance was already with them, so I came over to get the free V2V calls. At the time, we lived in Sunnybank and the only place we could get reception was by going out to the street or standing on a chair in the walk in robe. Wasnt too bad as most of my time I worked in the Valley and had reception there. Anyway, after using my phone for a few months it was having issues with dropped calls, random restarts, and sometimes just completely losing the VF network. I had the distinct pleasure of calling the call centre and was advised to take my phone into the repair centre at Milton. As I was told it would only take an hour to re-flash the software, I took it in at lunchtime and came back after eating lunch.

First fail (not including dodgy handset and crap coverage): The tech working on the phone buggered up the mainboard, so we have ordered parts from Sydney so you will need to wait for a week for the parts to arrive.

Second fail: Call them after a week without the phone to find out if it is ready to pick up. Sorry, the part was not available in our warehouse, so we have ordered it from the manufacturer. It will take about 3-4 weeks to arrive.

I am pretty pissed off now, but what can you do. One would have thought that you would keep stock levels up of current phone hardware, but that would be sensible.

Third fail: Four weeks later, I still havent heard anything so I give the call centre a call to find out what my options are for getting a replacement. Unfortunately I have no option for replacement as I am on a 24 month contract, so I can buy out the remaining 21 months to pay off the handset and move to another provider at some prohibitive rate, or I can buy another handset outright and just use the sim. Not excited about either of those options, I gave the repair centre a call.

Fourth fail: Sorry, didnt someone call you to tell you your phone was ready last friday (this being the Thursday of the following week). Uhh, no...

Pick up the phone, use it for a few more months and still have exactly the same issues.

Fifth fail: Back to the repair centre, somewhat more nervously wondering how long I will be without a phone for, and advised that it will only take an hour. After another lunch at Milton, back to the repair centre and deja vu time. Exactly the same thing has happened - main board broken, no parts in the warehouse, and a month before I get my phone back.

I am normally very patient, but that was it for me. The repair centre advised that the only way I could get a replacement phone was to go through customer care, so I left and called customer care later that day. I was then told that the repair centre are the only ones who can authorise a replacement phone, but as it was now after 5 on a friday I couldnt do anything until monday.

One useful bit of information I did find out was that if you have two repairs performed on the one device, then VF are obliged to swap your handset with another to the same value or less.

I went into a retail store, and to the storepersons credit, he was very helpful in talking with the customer care people over the phone and organising a swap to a new handset, a HTC Desire.

Sixth fail: As part of the swap, they needed the old phone back. Luckily the store guy gave me the Desire so I had a phone over the weekend, but then I had to go to Milton to pick up the crap phone and take it back to the Mt Gravatt store. Got to the Mt Gravatt store and the guy I spoke to wasnt there, so they were going to give me another phone, but eventually got it sorted.

The new handset is much more reliable, but VF coverage and data speed is still woeful. We moved to Bellbird Park and now have one bar if we are lucky. My fiance is now 37 weeks pregnant, so I am just hoping that I am home when bubby decides to make his arrival because she probably wont be able to call me and who knows how quickly a SMS would go through. She was working at Griffith Uni Nathan Campus where there was also a distinct lack of coverage, so we just used email to talk rather than attempt a phone conversation.

Her contract is up in the next few months, so we will be moving away from VF. Most likely it will be to Telstra because they at least have better coverage and excellent data speeds in comparison.
7 Aug 2011 02:28:45 AM: Welcome to Draconia... (Bellbird Park) been having this problem for 2 years here

Like everyone else here I also get such bad reception that the wifi I bought is pretty much unusable. I certainly would not be able to watch a youtube clip with it. I also have a vodafone dongle which is almost as slow. Something which ought to take a couple of minutes online takes at least twenty. Pages do not load, website unavailable etc. The girl at the vodafone store told me that she had the same wifi and her reception was crap, too. Of course, nobody at the store told me this the day I bought it, only the next day when I went back. Basically, I bought something that does not work. I am a prepaid customer so do not have the contract problems many people here have. When my credit expires, that's it. So far, considering the problems I've had, my 14 GB data has lasted me seven months, though I imagine I would have used that credit by now and happily paid for more had it worked. I do not use the internet the way I would like to. It's too slow to check emails unless I have a reason to look, facebook is slow and youtube is not a realistic option for me through vodoafone. Any business genuinely interested in keeping its customers should not have its complaints dealt with in another country. Invariably they do not understand my problems, know about the offers etc. Plus, I feel it is inappropriate to complain about poor internet coverage to someone who probably lives in poverty and does not really have anything to do with vodafone beyond reading a script and pointless troubleshooting which cannot improve their coverage. So I will not complain again, as I believe Vodafone in Australia probably do not even receive my questions anyhow. I will merely switch to another internet provider that actually works.

I've only been a vodafone customer for a week (when I was upgrading on 3 I was told that there won't be 3 soon so I might as well change now). I can't believe how bad vodafone is!! It shocks me that in this day and age that a network can be this bad. No matter where I am, my network drops out every 5-10 seconds. It's ridiculous! And every single call drops out. And I can never use email on my phone, it cant ever connect. I would have never believed things could be this bad. And calling overseas call centers for help is a joke!! They never have the answers - I'm getting out as soon as I can.
5 Aug 2011 09:41:22 PM: Vodaphone bought Hutchinson and ruined their name...bought 3 mobile and completely stuffed their system....getting 3 mobile to move over to Vodaphone....not a good idea...as long as their are 3 mobile customers..it has to stay online....they must notify in writing to all existing customers of 3 mobile of a change...you do NOT have to move to Vodaphone....contract cancelled when they do change it....
6 Aug 2011 12:52:47 AM: The above post is incorrect, it was a merge not a buy out, and it is true once 3's contract with Telstra ends there won't be a 3 anymore.
7 Aug 2011 11:56:23 AM: That is right..I just found out that Hutchinson and Vodaphone merged...This did result in hutchinson's poor reputation even though when they were just hutchinson...they had an excellent name.... I apologise for the incorrect information on that.... However, Vodaphone must confirm with 3 mobile contracts and you do NOT have to move to Vodaphone to keep the service....by doing so they negate the contract with 3 mobile...

Used to be with ThreeMobile for many years ... then after many network issues was transferred to Vodacrud, which they insisted was a 'far superior network'. Instantly noticed that Vodarubbish was far worse than Three.

While in Melbourne CBD I did have good signal .. BUT .. this didn't mean that I had good service. The internet data was soooooooooooooo slow. Webpages constantly timeout, cant access email etc. Their data backhauls must have been very congested -- what contention ratio are you running voda??

Call quality was like talking to a robot, providing that you could actually make a successful call. Another annoying thing was that I would get missed calls, even though it never rang. Tested this many times calling between 2 phones. Can't get a spare line eh?

If your looking for a new provider, take advice from everyone here ... don't be fooled by their pricing/marketing ... there is a reason why their network is so congested, and they will attempt to lock you in for 24months so that you get plenty of time fully experience the pain.

I'm glad to see that I was not the only one with phone issues. The tech support were always so confident that the service was working fine, and that 'my phone needed servicing'. What on earth needs to be serviced? Oil change, top up the fluids, check the spark plugs??!! These things are not serviceable, and any firmware/settings can be done from itunes or pushed from the network.

How on earth can they run a company like this? Why don't the industry regulators step in and put a STOP to all this? I think 24month contracts are a bad idea, and reflect a companies lack of confidence in their product (by locking you in). If you have a good product, your customers will stay! Alternatively, if your product is a Vodafail, then they will leave one way or another.

Since exiting the contract (big thanks Mr TIO), I have been on pre-paid with another provider. I only pay for what I use, if i need more then I recharge, else the money stays in my pocket. Best of all, no excess charges, no contract, can leave anytime!

i cannot receive any messages or phone calls at my own home, and they tricked me into a new contract.

i was told i could continue my contract on my phone from my 3 plan, with the new galaxy s but because i was continuing the contract i had to pay a bit extra off the phone which was fine because i knew my contract would end THIS july. However to my suprise i find out i was put on a new contract and i have to stay on this phone for ANOTHER HELLISH YEAR! i cant even talk to my friends! and what if my car breaks down, i dont get alot of reception where i live let alone the many black spots. I am so angry its not funny. If i wind up stranded because of them they are getting a serving.

Working in and around Picton an hour south of Sydney my calls always drop out. Numerous times a day my phone says i have two or three bars only to say i have no network coverage when i try to ring work. Most times i have to use pay phones to talk to the office, unless i drive to the top of a few hills that i know i can get one bar if i'm desperate.

Ridiculous!! And dont get me started on their data reception. Just to check in to place via the fb app is a task in its self. if only i had a penny for the amount of times "No cellular data available" has come up on my screen!!
3G is supposed to make data faster yet when i turn it off its usually better! Dam Vodafone, ur services are deplorable.

Have struggled with Vodafone's poor network for over two years now. Probably a bit of a sucker to have signed up with another 24month contract. The optimist in me wanting to believe they could be bothered to fix their network in a regional part of Australia.

Funny thing is, around 6 months ago, the coverage got worse! Signal is less than what it used to be, making 3G useless.

Recently (last couple of months) found that the Internet has gone from dog slow to no access at all (or slower than dial up for every 10th page-load attempt).

Rang Vodafone and got told it will cost me over $800 to terminate my contract for a service they apparently think they are providing. Apparently the network issues are to do with my handset and/or sim card... even though I can duplicate the conditions on two different handsets and friends of mine are having a similar experience.

Now postponed while there is an "investigation" launched into my problems. A process which apparently takes "a month or so". The support person could not provide details as to exactly what this investigation entails, but my cynical side tells me a large part of it probably consists of doing absolutely nothing until they can come up with another reason to keep me tagging along and paying that monthly fee for a service they are not providing.

Awesome way to keep customers and improve good will.
3 Aug 2011 03:59:58 PM: $800 to terminate their contract is way too much if they can't provide the service you signed up for. It's time for the TIO - details on the 'how to complain' page. Goodluck!

3 Aug 2011 05:49:54 PM: Thanks for the advise (and the website). Have done exactly that... interesting to see what the response will be.
20 Oct 2011 03:37:30 PM: Well, after contacting the TIO, Vodafone were quite cooperative in allowing me to exit my plan. We ended up agreeing on a $300 figure.

Have now switched to Optus and can actually use my phone for data and voice calls... whilst paying less for the privilege.

Thanks again for hosting this site - it's a lifesaver resource for those stuck in this Vodafone mess.

I said both of you are same ... tell me the difference .. there was no difference ... the only difference is you have to keep paying money to different name of the company - event for the same company.

Major Incompentence on the part of Network Architects & Admins...
What is going on there..??

I have to flood ping a gateway or DNS server for like 20 secs to wake up a "sleeping switch port" (oversubscribed) to get some level of throughput...

The oversubscription model is not designed with the underlying infrastructure capabilities in mind...

I suspect the underlying debt ratio (financial business model) is heavily reliant on an unrealistic oversubscription model to generate the required revenue streams capable of servicing the underlying debt facility...

What has been experienced to date is typical of short-term improvements (a reduced oversubscription model) in performance which coincidently disappear once media has changed it's focus from Vodafone (VF) and the VF propaganda machine has blurted out how committed it is to customers and network improvements while re-establishing the previous oversubscription ratios because the underlying debt facility requires it...

The root cause is not in the technology, it's in the financial business model that supports VF...

Nearly all business use debt facilities to provide operating cashflows, but, a carrier like Telstra has invested nearly $4 billion in it's 3G network, but they have chosen to offer less value for money to end-users but provide superior network coverage and performance using an oversubscription rate that is aligned to the underlying capabilities of the network platform architecture...

Fix the root cause of the problem and you would win a base of loyal customers committed to a business that is committed to providing performance and value...

Definitely no improvements since the media firestorm of some months ago....

Vodafone has loss of up to 300,000 customers !!!!!

The following is part of the news from The Australian newspaper --

"VODAFONE Hutchison Australia is today expected to reveal an exodus of mobile customers from its network, with analysts tipping the departure of up to 300,000 in the six months to June 30".

Full report can be found at --
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/australian-it/telecommunications/mobile-exodus-from-vodafone-as-analysts-tip-the-loss-of-up-to-300000-customers/story-fn4iyzsr-1226106225824

My congratulations to the person who started this website. It goes to show the "power of one" and the effect that one person can have when you get the information out.

2 Aug 2011 09:15:55 AM: if they have lost that many why has the network not started too improve!!!!!!!!!! but i must say that i was on thursday island last week & i had signal just wasn't voda
2 Aug 2011 09:27:57 AM: it hasn't improved because they're still marketing like crazy... they con people into joining and a month later, once they've found out about all the problems, the customer leaves. if you get a phone just for show, and you don't actually ever use it, you'll be fine with Vodacon. But if you ever want to use it to make a call you'll have to go elsewhere, that's why people are leaving, because some people, some strange, strange people, want to make phone calls.

mind you, every time someone leaves it's not simple, you have to learn another language in order to converse with "customer service", you'll be subjected to their baboon-like manners, and finally, when you've negotiated till you thought you couldn't anymore, you'll discover the coveted TIO, who will get you out within 10 days. Now, about 40 days or so after you were first looking for a phone carrier, you are back to where you started, and you can then go to Telstra, Optus or one of the others.

This is the cycle and it's worse than water torture.

Voda is a waste of time, waste of money and a waste of space.
2 Aug 2011 10:12:31 AM: Thanks, I originally started the website to get my personal Vodafone problems sorted out but I'm really happy that I've been able to spend some time on it and help everyone else out as well. I don't think of it as the power of one though, if all of you didn't share your stories and speak up to Vodafone then nothing would have been done.

It shows that when we come together to solve a problem, we can achieve a lot more. Vodafone has said they are investing heavily in their network (now) but I imagine it will take a couple years before all their customers see the benefits.

Vodafone are charging me for 1300 calls - on a $45 'infinite' plan, plus calls to retrieve my own voicemails, and to 3 customer care. On top of this, my 1gb of mobile broadband is 3 times slower - when I even get reception - than dial up internet. I had to download onto my phone because the internet on the computer was not working at all - then I get a txt saying I owe them $497 in excess usage charges !!!! I spend an hour or so on the phone every week trying to get help from them - being constantly told to go online to see the fine print of my phone contract, then I will understand all the charges - but I can't get into my account due to the online internet being completely unreliable !!!!!!!!!!!! I signed up in Feb of this year with IPHONE 4 on that $49 unlimited deal. I had the phone for a couple of months before I started cracking the shits due to poor coverage I called up and spent hours on hold to finally speak to someone. They ran test and everything and couple of weeks later I had to call back because they said they would call me but they didn't. So when I called them they offerred me everything 3 months for free, Discounts on my bills. I said to VODAFONE that, That was a nice thing but there is no point with the poor coverage. In the end they said they would send out a recovery bag for My Iphone 4 to send it back and they would cancel the contract free of charge. It has now been 6 months and I have not received my recovery bag and I have rang up a couple of times to get it.
Yet still have not received it every time I have tried to call in the last month or two I spend ages on hold and then get disconnected but now when I ring I get DUE TO HIGH NUMBER OF CALLS WE CANNOT TAKE YOUR CALL AT THE MOMENT! What is that crap about?
They have sent me a disconnection bill of over $1000 and I cannot get a hold of this pathetic company! I think I will take this up with the TIO!

THats what we can expect after waiting for 25 minutes, then they call you back within 17 minutes, only to give you this rubbish.

How much more do they need to do before the Federal Government launches an enquiry into the abuse and mockery of the Trade Practices Act this company is actively participating in. We have endured 19 months of what has been the WORST performing contract I have EVER signed and I sing many on a daily basis. Deep breath....only 152 days to go until contract expires. I receive sms messages offering phones and other contracts from them, I would rather a couple of cans and piece of string than this service they offer.

The Federal Government should hang their heads in shame.

Couple of days in this billing cycle I was charged with massive data usage. I called the customer service and all the response they can give is "it's your fault. You deal with it". This is the last nail in the coffin for me as I put up with the network for the past few months where I can not even get coverage in the Melbourne CBD and have to walk like a mad man holding up the phone. 18981 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is SLOW SLOW SLOW DATA at 30 Jul 2011 10:50:35 AM
Reception using a Pocket Wifi at Bargara 4670 is always slow, rarely do we get 3G coverage and device usually operates on H. At busy telecomms times of the day reception often is too slow to be operative, ie slow download of 20KB/s reduces to 1 - 5 KB/s and becomes in-operable.

Since they announced an upgrade of the system many weeks ago the in-operability has become much worse. Have had this device for 3 months, the last two months of which have been BAD ! ! Tech support stated download speed ought to be around 400 KB/s.........400 !!!! After testing their equipment I was told I am in a poor reception area, to which I asked why it seemed to be resonable during the first month's use of the device and why it does work to a satisfactory level of 50 - 100 KB/s early morning time ?

We also have a Vodafail mobile which also has reception problems in our house as does a Telstra mobile and Telsta USB broadband stick. ADSL is not avalable here, so wireless broadband is our only option. We are trapped in a Telecommuncation TIME WARP and fed a constant stream of CRAP from Vodafail & Telstra the infrastructure supplier.

Will keep on complaining and seek a reduction in monthy fees, it's not worth $60 a month when we can't even use Skype VOIP to make calls.

April 2011 - spoke to Vodaphone about problems with coverage & was given 3 x 50% discounts on phone bill
and buy the end of June, 'improvements will be noticed with our upgrades"

Improvements were not noticed, in fact were worse.

1st July 2011 - (Spoke to Affan)
- called about problems and investigation raised & they would contact me in 3 working days.

8th July, 2011(Spoke to Vishal)
- Still no call, So phoned them & they are still looking into problem.
- Can't say what has been done, (if anything) they will call within next 72 hours

11th July, 2011 (Spoke to Feema)
- No Call as yet, they will contact me later today & didn't receive a callback.

12th July, 2011 (Spoke to Parvez)
- Apologise on no call back, they will call be back in 10 mins
- Receive a call 30mins later, apologise on delay in calling me back
- Network team are investigating still, may take another 5 days)
- SMS text sent 5 Hrs later stating:
SMS - "HI, WE'RE STILL WORKING ON THE ISSUE, & WE'LL ADVISE YOU OF ANY CHANGES, THANKS VODAPHONE"

25th July, 2011 (Spoke to Moshan)
- I called them up as no update, gave examples of my problems again will get back to me in 3 to 4 days from Networking engineers

27th July, 2011 (Spoke to Moshan)
*** receive a call from the networking engineer, saying there is no problem, with dropped calls after looking into the problem, i asked about the slow data rate & THE PHONE CALL DROPPED (PHONE HAD 3 BARS & 3G AREA)

- Called back straight away (Spoke to Niltesa) no notes saying anyone had called me, still looking into problem, if the called dropped they'll call in the next 1-2 hours. Requested to speak to a supervisor, they were busy &would call me back within 1 hr.

- Supervisor never called.

28th July, 2011 (spoke to Vishan)
- I called them & recapped problem with ref number and passed into Tech Team

(spoke to Shetal)
- recapped problem again & quoted ref number & would pass me onto the Tech Support Team

(spoke to Geyshea)
- Recapped problem, quoted ref number again, apologise on not getting call back.
- Asked why my phone call dropped out while having 3 bars & 3G , suggested it was the other persons line, i then mentioned i was talking to Vodaphones Tech Engineers who had contacted me stating that there was no problem with their coverage.
- She said need to check some things will call you back.

Receive call from Geyshea (15mins alter) - Changed investigation form investigation to a complaint & would receive
50% discount on next 3 phone bills, Updates in area are being done, so should see results soon.

RESULT - discounted bills for 3 months - coverage problems, dropped calls, slow data rates remain.

WAS IT WORTH IT? - not really, i have better things to do with my time. But wanted to let people aware of this - complain enough & eventually you'll be given a discount because they are aware that their coverage is not good.

29 Jul 2011 09:48:28 PM: Well done on keeping a detailed record of your discussions with Vodafone. Will make it easier for you if you need to escalate your issues to the TIO.

Agree with you about the discounts. Not worth much. Prefer to be receiving a reliable service where we can confidently make and receive calls and text, and an internet service that is usable.
30 Jul 2011 01:35:25 AM: Lucky. When I complained about the same thing early this year I got completely ignored. No response past the automated reply. When I complained again in April, all I was offered was a reduced exit fee. They made it sound like a good deal. Just pay $300 and you get to walk away right now and KEEP YOUR PHONE! Woohoo!
Not a cent worth of discount, not a bar worth of reception.

18969 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Not receiving calls, calls dropping out at 29 Jul 2011 02:21:23 PM
I have been with vodafone for around 10years and i have had enough! Text messages are being received up to 2hours after being sent and i have not been able to send a text or make a call over a 36 hour period. Now over the last week i am getting texts from my colleges and friends saying they can't call me. I have tried getting my friend to call my phone while we were sitting opposite, first time was disconnected, second time got through, and third and fourth time were also disconnected. Now just last night i was chatting to my friend and our call was dropped out 4 TIMES!! Now i realise after reading others have the same issues that it is not my handset, IT IS the vodafone network that is letting me down, plus because of this i have possibly missed business calls regarding future work prospects that i have been anticipating over the last month.
The many promises of upgrading the network and improving the service is a load of crap, it has gotten worse over the last year and i don't intend to be a sucker anymore and hand over my hard earned money to such a bad mobile service. ADIOS VODAFONE! U have now lost a loyal customer.

18968 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is shocking at 29 Jul 2011 01:35:43 PM
due to upgrading local network, when people call me they may get a message telling them "THIS NUMBER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED." Or they go straight to voicemail. This will last for 3 months!!! It's intermittent and there is nothing vodaphone can do about, they are not even willing to look into this issue for me. They offered 25% discount, without me asking as they know the upgrade is creating issues. But there is nothing on their website stating there may be issues. Area is (North Perth). Whats the point of having a phone when I can have no idea that someone has tried and failed to reach me. What if the call is urgent??? I don't understand why an upgrade needs to affect the current service to this degree. Not happy at all.
29 Jul 2011 01:52:10 PM: North Perth issues: yep often hear -days/weeks later- that friends think i've been cut off or not paid my bill.

18967 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme Fail at 29 Jul 2011 01:34:43 PM
Vodaf***- a class apart in how amazingly poor their network and service is. In the heart of Sydney(CBD area), I don't have network coverage. Brilliant stuff! Can manage to barely use the internet on my phone. But somehow when the bills come, data usage shown is in excess of 300 MB. How is this possible? Their "tech support" team gives me bulls**t spiel on automatic updates on apps. Then there is this ridiculous joke of a service called 1512.Apparently there is a lag of 48 hours in updating usage. Why have the service at all in the first place? I check my usage before I go overseas, and when I come back to Sydney and check my usage again, 70 MB on my data plan has been mysteriously used up. When I call Vodaf*** to clarify, they ask me to wait until the bill arrives to have a "better idea" of the charges and then call them again (yeah sure. I have nothing better to do than spend precious time on these calls).I'm on a 29 dollar cap and barely use my phone, however my bills for the last two months are in the range of 150-180 dollars.Vodaf*** tells me there is "nothing wrong with their billing system". I'm running out of patience.

18966 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is They are STUPID... at 29 Jul 2011 11:58:25 AM
I called up Vodafone saying that I get reception issues and frequent drop outs when I am driving or at a shopping center.
They say that THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE SERVICE WHEN I AM MOVING ON MOTORWAYS AND BUSES AND TRAINS..... On top of it they say that my iPhone 3Gs is a problem and I should use a Nokia. I asked if the iPhone was a problem and I had to buy a Nokia then why did they sell an iPhone and they said that we just sell what the customers ask for... They are so god damn stupid ... What do I do...
29 Jul 2011 06:57:08 PM: Don't get a Nokia! Especially an N8. I got one from vodafone at the start of the year and had nothing but reception problems.. not to mention freezing and battery life the Nokia phone gave me. I made vodafone give me a HD desire which is better but still have those reception issues.. and im in the melbourne CBD. Just some advice.
