26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

Have 5 services with vodafone and my phone (which i require for work) drops in and out constantly and when I went into a store to possibly get another one they suggested i buy a "crappy one" until my plan runs out early next year.I have also spent hours being kept on hold when I have rung 'customer service' which is a total joke plus have trouble viewing my bill.

8515 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Voda Three Telstra comparison at 29 Dec 2010 02:48:59 PM
I thought my Three mobile internet on hand held computer was getting slower, IT WAS!! I bought prepaid Telstra 3G simcard and installed in UMPC and it works super fast. since Three have been hijacked by VODA the service quality has deteriated. I thought THREE were OK and they were, but it seems Voda are ruining a good service provider. three always had good call centre help, not a long wait and problems solved quickly. Seems Telstra and Optus will end up with a duopoly and we'll be paying dearly in the future for access. best advice, don't take up plans, use prepaid uncontracted phones free of provider software etc.I wonder if Telsta now own all of Three mobiles towers?? possible reason for deteriation of network.

I'm a THREE user and have been for a few years, using mobile internet on UMPC and 2 x Sami non contracted phones. Service and reception on both mob internet and on 2 x phones were ok until recently. the data speed testing has dropped down and have phone connection and drop out problems. this seems to happened since VODA took control of THREE !!? luckily I'm not on contract and Phones are unlocked. If this is'nt resolved soon I think I may head back to the BIG TELSTRA after 3 years away!! I have excellent reception on 3G at home 5 bars all the time so no excuses THREE / VODA.

8485 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is not happy at 29 Dec 2010 02:19:11 PM
I terminated my contract 4 months early due to phone dropping out when interstate. I have just recieved my last bill, so asked them once this is paid does that mean my phone will unlock from Vodaphone. My answer was no not unless i pay $25.00 to unlock it. A bit unfair.
31 Dec 2010 08:25:07 PM: I believe you can go to the vodafone website and there is an unlock area where you put in the details of your phone and they tell you for free how to unlock it. Might be worth checking out.

8479 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Billing fail at 29 Dec 2010 02:10:24 PM
I recently signed up with vodafone through an NRMA deal for a 12 month contract. The deal is as follows:
- HTC Desire HD
- $69 cap + $15 handset repayment
- 10% off for lifetime of contract (handset repayment not included)
- first 3 months free
- overall $745 for life of contract
- confirmed this was the full deal before signing, when activating the sim over the phone and in the store.
I recently got my first bill, I have not gone over the cap, I have not had any extra charges on my account and yet the first bill - $155.10
I called vodafone about this - waited 2.5 hrs to get through to a customer rep.
She looked at my bill and said that there weren't any particular reasons for the charge. She said she would credit one month back to me but that I would have to pay the rest of the bill as it is policy for them to charge a month's bill ahead of time which is then refunded at the end of the contract. I have never heard of this nor is it anywhere in the contract. When I pointed this out, the CSR said that I could take it or leave it. I then asked what I should do when/if the next bill charges me again - her solution was to call back. I pointed out how long it took to get through to her, she said it's not her problem.

Vodafone - you fail. Your coverage where I am is absolute crap, I can barely use the internet on my device, I get dropped calls repeatedly and 0 bars constantly. You overcharged me on my bill without a reason other than to see if you could simply get away with it. How is this type of treatment legal in the slightest?

2 Jan 2011 03:15:45 PM: You have to be persistent and continue calling, demand that you want out of your contract and don't give in. Be strong!

8414 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is SouthAust3G coverage map at 29 Dec 2010 01:06:50 PM
Since launching 3g umts 900 coverage map is not a true representation of coverage take inglewood in the hills, blue area shows should have coverage but no coverage on nokia 6121 or 3120 whatsoever coverage map definently does not show handheld Vs carkit or external antenna reception.
Also since voda decided to merg all metro towers to share with three seems problems with both voice and data, sure merge the network but make sure the network can handle the capacity strain.

29 Dec 2010 08:05:02 PM: apparently no one you racist bogan
5 Jan 2011 09:20:48 PM: well sometimes its from india and sometimes its local, both personally i found Indian service way better. they also give me call credit if thereare any complaints
5 Jan 2011 11:08:37 PM: I completely agree with the comment above, being annoyed that "Customer Service" is being handled by people who are not fluent in your language is NOT customer service. while the person above is emotive and angry he does'nt use racism. Racism would be saying "I this the Indian customer service team are a bunch of idiots". I bugs me how so many topics have become socially tabo under the "racism" flag.
6 Jan 2011 11:32:41 AM: getting ripped off with lousy service isnt anything to do with racism, having people ill equipped to perform a job with language issues is the most frustrating experience ever..Lets face it as Aussies we tend to call a spade a spade if we are unhappy we tend to voice it in the most basic and verbal manner. If that is racism you may want to look at your own interpretation of the politically correct handbook which coming from my experience is hell bent on pandering to those that believe it is possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
6 Jan 2011 02:58:00 PM: hahaha RACIST BOGAN
6 Jan 2011 04:05:38 PM: @6 Jan 2011 01:32:41 PM:I feel genuinely nauseated after reading you verbose reply- you "Aussie"- hardly "the most basic and verbal manner". In fact, it resembled basic slick PR Politician spin, with an ante-diluvian attitude and hidden agenda- so, wild guess, you're "underemployed" after we Aussies flushed away the Little Turd on November 24 2007?
Or overworked spamming for Voodoofone? You tell me, you "Aussie". BTW, most of us write it as WE say it- "Ozzie"
ref: "Ozzie ozzie ozzie oy oy oy" (May be somewhere in VF's cricket promo footage)
26 Apr 2011 08:16:43 PM: Aussie is correct I believe we are on a Website not a Cricket match. I also have an issue with understanding who I talk to when trying to make a complaint to Vodaphone. How can someone try to help you if they cannot understand you and you can't understand them !!!!!! This is not racism it is just FACT....

8261 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Fail of truly epic proportions at 29 Dec 2010 10:50:06 AM
There has been countless times that i have been without coverage for up to a week at a time. Being in regional South Australia i was told after inquiring a few times to Vodafone Customer Service the reason why there is no coverage. I was told that Vodafone was upgrading to 3G in our area and it has never eventuated. Now with my contract Vodafone seems quite content in taking my money every month and i have never had a customer service representative( in the last 2-3 years) call and ask if i was happy with the service. Now after almost 10 years of being with Vodafone i am very disappointed and disheartened that i will be cancelling my contract with them when it expires.

8258 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Roaming FAIL at 29 Dec 2010 10:48:25 AM
I went OS recently and turned on global roaming 2 weeks before I left to make sure I would be able to use it when I got there. I turned off incoming calls & voicemail - since this can be expensive.
When I arrived in Malaysia, turned my iPhone on and no signal. Everyone else had signals. I tried for more than an hour of turning it on and off - then I finally convinced the hotel to let me use the internet for free, I logged on and all the roaming settings were off. ?? Um WHAT? 2 weeks ago I changed it, then I had to tick all the boxes on the website to get it going and I still had 2 international calls and voicemail arrive while I was away. NOT HAPPY!!

I sub-contract to a courier company that uses Vodafone for their mobile/handheld data terminals and have no coverage in my own home at the moment so I can't even start work as the network appears to be down, in areas where even optus provide coverage (not much better in my opinion) vodafone doesn't even scratch the border, I stupidly signed on to vodafone for my ex's phone and she has a phone that plays up constantly, she could have bought it outright for less on prepaid, and then doesn't get coverage in metro adelaide WTF are they doing???

6 Jan 2011 04:18:12 PM: Absolutely! I hope you haven't thrown away your records and evidence- easy to do- takes up so much space and it feels cleansing to rid yourself, at least, of the physical evidence of time you will never get back.
I find you claim incomprehensible- The Police Complaints Authority? The latest level of beaurocracy layered on and passed off as a faux ICAC? Though, if you've been wasting your time with the TIO and Vodafone- easy to miss

8097 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Mobile broadband coverage at 29 Dec 2010 08:33:41 AM
Man- have I been waiting a long tiem for a site like this!!
Vodafone are an embarrassment to telco's worldwide. Where shall i start with my "issues"......
Complaint 1: I was transferred to Vodafone for my mobile broadband coverage, after they bought out the '3' network. I was sent a Vodafone modem, and asked to return the 3 modem, which I did. Every month for 6 months now, I have been getting charged $99 on my bill for not returning the 3 modem, that Vodafone have admmitted they have recieved and 'lost'. Even supplying the Aust Post reciept number and date of sending was worthless. They have sent me an extra THREE (count em) pre-paid envelopes to return the modem I have already returned, and I tell them this every month without success. Every month I complain, every month they apologise, and promise to fix it. Now I am getting nasty 'overdue- pay now' emails for the modem I have already returned. i have cancelled my direct deposit for VF bills, as I actually missed a house payment, when VF took the $99 from my account, for the fourth month running. This is serious s**t, and has the potential for me to lose my house, or- at the very least- affect my perfect credit rating.
Complaint 2: No mobile broadband coverage in my house!! I have complained numerous times, only to be told 1) I am in a bad coverage area, and there's nothing they can do, 2) It's a 'software issues', and will soon be fixed (HA!), or 3) I must have installed illegal software on my computer, which is corrupting it. Excuse me??. My coverage rangers from 'poor' to 'very poor'. I no longer use the internet at home, as it is worse than a slow dialup connection. i am paying for a service that is unuseable.
Complaint no 3: When Vodafone took over 3 mobile, they assured me my contract with 3 will be honored, and will expire in Feb 2011 (as my 3 one was going to). During my last session with Vodafone Customer Service (an oxymoron if I've ever heard one), I was politely informed that what I was told the first time wasnt true, and my contract had been extended by two years, from the date of VF taking over 3. This happened without my permission or knowledge. I told the Indian call centre (who are nice people...but totally f***ing useless at resolving complaints) that it would be a cold day in hell before I stayed with VF after Feb 2011.
I urge everyone to log onto Piper Alderman's site, and show these big telco's that they cant get away with this sort of behaviour.

Well, i was with Three Mobile (yes I know theyre affiliated)i was living in the Salisbury area (5018) and I had coverage issues. They suggested I change to Vodafone for better coverage & it showed me on a online map that I would have full coverage in that area so i signed up to a 24 month plan. I found that the coverage was NO better (if not worse) and whenever I try to contact their customer centre for ANY enquiries im on hold for at least 40 minutes!!!!! they tell me this is because of the high demand for the iPhone... pfft what a load. The technicians & service agents I speak to are soo novice and the people in the actual stores are no better. I wish I had stayed with three, theyre cheaper, easier to get in contact with & much more customer focused. I was with them for 4 years before I changed & iv regretted it ever since :(

Vodaphone sent me a Dongle for wireless internet. I've already got internet through 3 mobile. They've sent me 4 bills averaging between $20 and $130 and I've never even opened the box and activated it. I've since sent the package back and to my suprise...another bill. How many times do i have to tell Customer Service that I have never had an internet account with them and never will. I never with any other company been put on hold for over 45 minutes 5 times in a row. Vodaphone s*ck and i'd never use them, I've also told my friends of my experience and they will never use them now either.

7977 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Very Poor at 29 Dec 2010 06:21:45 AM
For the past 12 months I have lived in a suburban caravan park, so have no landline, but needed internet access. I went for Vodafone prepaid mobile for both phone and internet. Should have gone to Telstra. I rarely have more than three bars of signal strength at my home, usually it is one or two bars, but 50 meters down the road I get 4 or 5 bars of signal strength. The Vodafone prepaid mobile broadband internet connection is slower than a landline connection most of the time and actually seems to work better on two bars signal strength than on the rare occasions there is three or four bars! Calls drop out, text messages arrive anything from hours to days after they were sent, customer service is very bad. I absolutely hate the automated customer service system and the voice and speel of the message service (and so do all my friends who have to listen to it if I miss their call!). "If you want ... press ... ... ... ... " which doesn't seem to ask the right questions - I nearly always have to wait a prolonged period to get through that garbage and talk to a human being to get my problems sorted out. There is virtually no warning when the balance is expiring or running out during a call - just a very faint beep which is often inaudible if anyone is talking then cut off within seconds. The internet connection uses a USB dongle which suffers from the same problems as the phone connection. The only reason I have persisted with this Vodafone system is that for internet it cost me to buy the Vodafone dongle, took many days to get it set up and 'working' and I didn't want to go through all that again to set up a different one. Now that I am moving back to a regular house to live in I will be dumping Vodafone.

Pretty much the same as everyone else...have been living in this area for 16 months. At first when I moved here, I could text and occasionally receive or make phone calls (depending where i was in the house).
Eventually as the months passed the signal got worse and now I have problems not only calling and receiving calls, but even texting and receiving texts.
I phoned vodafone regarding the problem however nothing could be done. A sales consultant from Vodafone phoned me to update my plan but got impatient when the signal kept dropping out!!!. In April of this year, fed up and disgruntled, I stopped paying my account, only to receive a creditors letter in October (so I've resumed my account payments again!)Again another Vodafone representative phoned me regarding this and had to call me back on my landline because of the poor signal!!!!!
This past 16 mths has been nothing short of absolute frustration. I have had a partner who has lived overseas and interstate and trying to stay in touch with her via my mobile has been, well, difficult to say the least. I had much better success in NZ with my mobile then I did with my own network provider!
I am very grateful for this site and wish the class action all the success in the world. I will be joining it!!!

My address is in Crittenden Road, Andrews Farm, SA 5114, We are supposed to have standard coverage for all services it shows green on the coverage map. I continually have nil signal and so does my partner. We have both had to remove batteries several time on Blackberry 9700 and it seems to resolve the issues for a short time. We chose to obtain a Vodafone broadband USB device as a back up if our land line ADSL is down and the signal with that device is substandard. Interesting that we were with 3 and never experienced an issues with mobile broadband signal and or mobile signal.

I have never taken up the quiz. I always check monthly account but over period I was unable to access account online. Discovered charges in November. Requests to Vodafone for info on how they could pass on these charges met with shock and incredulity from somone overseas who insisted I must have activated the quiz. I was given Vodafone complaint contact address. Email sent detailing complaint. No response. I repeatedly followed up using Vodafone "instructions". My husbands and my phone keeps dropping out numerous time nearly every call. We ring Vodafail to be on hold for an hour(no exageration)to talk to someone i can't understand. I lost my phone and tried to block the IMEI on it. 3 Times i had to call back because my insurance company said it wasn't blocked. Because i was on hold so long i decided to go to a vodafail shop. They couldn't do anything but say "ring them"....I asked them to as the time on hold was redicoulas they were on hold just as long. I have had it my partner is on $100 contract for what he could get now for $50 and they won't change it. I think everyone with Vodafail needs some sort of good will or compensation for the frustration and suffering.

when we signed up for business phones 7 of them we were first given the wrong plan to what we signed up for and cost us a fortune

but the most annoying thing was we were told that we would get 90% coverage around australia ( we asked this because we knew that we were going to travel)

NO DID NOT HAPPEN 4 klms out of a major regional town no coverage

we were charged for two months for the phones and didnt ever have a couple of the phones

we have been battling with vodafone since we got the phones over issues on plans coverage

I just signed up with vodafone ( Talk Cap King ) on a 24 month contract which included a nokia C3 phone and a week after getting the phone it is not working and after visiting my local vodafone shop was told they couldn't help me.
29 Dec 2010 05:58:08 PM: I had a similar issue with my Nokia N8. It was 3 weeks old, so they just replaced it with a new one. Its they're policy if a phone has issues within 28 days.
6 Jan 2011 04:33:30 PM: @29 Dec 2010 07:58:08 PM Not quite!
"The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has accepted court enforceable undertakings from Vodafone Hutchison Australia as a result of an investigation into alleged misrepresentations about consumers' rights to a remedy for faulty mobile phones."
http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/909293/fromItemId/621784
There's more at the ACCC website.
So, "policy"- thinking it's Vodafone being good guys, is different from a court enforced undertaking with the threat of large fines if breached.I hope those fines are imposed for EVERY breach.
And 7882- I hope you read this.

I've been trying for the last 2 hours to get coverage in my own house to send an sms, and still cant get it, just 30 minutes out of Adelaide. This is worse than poor service. Last time i needed to contact Vodafone i was put on hold for 45 minutes, transferred to someone else and put on hold for another hour and a half and then put through to a department that wasn't even open. PULL YOUR HEAD IN, VODAFONE!!

after signing up a secondary service with vodafone i went away for work only to come back to an inactive sim on my primary service. i had to wait on the phone for hours only to be told to go into a store. Also when signing up the second service over the phone i was promised free 1GB of data and a $100 credit. Once my first bill arrived no credit and they were charging me for the data. The service also drops out, unable to access facebook and internet at times. they are quick to sign you up but dont follow through with service. i been a customer for a few years, WTF vodafone

I walked into a Vodafone shop here in Adelaide today and had a play with the stores HTC Desire HD.

It took 1 minute 15 seconds to load and display the 'www.vodafone.com.au' website.

Similarly, trying to load 'www.vodafone.com' still hadnt displayed after 2 minutes.

Surely after 3 months of this nonsense, you would hope to be seeing some kind of improvement to the appalling situation?

I've been with Vodafone for the past three years. I signed up with one of their internet dongles and didn't have too many issues to begin with.

Since I've moved I've been unable to get service. The hold function when you call them is insane and the step by step "is it plugged in, is the software correctly installed" did not help. I want to toss in my plan because it is $40.00 per month that is going no where and not getting me anything.

I've been with Vodaphone 2 years too long. After calling up regarding my signal stoping out, Internet working 10% of the day and text messages failing I called the call centre. After 45 minutes got palmed off 3 times. 62 minutes later I p throughout p someone and demands to speak to a TL. Waited another 12 minutes to be told the team leader was on another call and would call me back. Asked for the employees I no an was told her first name only. Asked to be called after 5pm. This was over a week ago and still no phone call. I am so sick of Vodaphone!
28 Dec 2010 09:29:04 PM: Hehe, that reminds me of one of my experiences with Voda call centre, I asked the rep to call me after 5pm Sydney time, she asked me 'so what time is that in India?' maybe thats why you haven't received the call back?! Moving call centre to India was the start of the end for Voda.

I'm with 3 and they recently merged with vodafone. They used to use the Telstra towers and I never have troubles....since they merged with Vodafone, I've had so many troubles with calls not connecting and messages taking forever to send and the internet has been taking forever to connect. Should I call 3/Vodafone to see if they can do anything or is it a lost cause and i should just give up?
29 Dec 2010 05:43:03 AM: I have had the same problems. I thought it was because I moved to Mawson Lakes where I have been told Telstra has the area sewn up with the Govt/Defence buildings. I complained to the Telecommunications Ombudsmans after vodafail wouldn't do a thing about it. The ombudsman was useless and all i got was a $50 credit on my pre-paid. They failed to engaged my international roaming whilst on holidays and then had the gall to charge me $25 for leaving a non-contract pre-paid phone

I switched to Vodafone from telstra network about 2 yrs ago, with an understanding from vodafone customer service person that there will be no difference in overall reception in the network and call quality will be the same.
however, soon after I started using it, I was very frustrated with the poor network reception, call drop outs. As I am a medical practitioner on frequent emergency duties, it really made me very anxious over last two years and most of the time I have to make several calls myself to Emergency department in the middle of night to make sure they are not making unsuccessful attempt to reach me (because of highly unreliable Vodafone network). I had no such trouble with my previous service provider.

I went to a mobile phone outlet in order to get a mobile plan about 3 years ago. I made it extremely clear to the salesperson that I needed it to cover the area in which I lived. She said to me that Vodafone would and if it did not, I could cancel the contract. Of course it did not work and when I contacted her, she said I could get an antenna from a 3rd party to help me. When I called the Vodafone customer centre, they laughed at me and said it was not their responsibility. I was stuck with the plan and whenever I missed a payment, Vodafone let me know about it. When I sent them an email, they told me I had to call them to discuss. I gave up. Our current provider, although not perfect, always helps and will consider a bill reduction in certain events. Vodafone is obviously as good as the current Australian cricket team it sponsors.

I have been with vodafone for 2 lots of 24mth plans(which were great) and I have just started my 3rd round stupid me! Cause my pain started about 3mths ago it's just I couldnt afford to pay out my plan. Constant dropping out of network coverage and receiving text messages in bulk or days later than when they had been sent even. Many phone calls to vodafone for up to 1hour and 50mins being on HOLD later and still no reason from them to my complaint. For them to offer me to upgrade my handset hence another 24mth plan cause I thought this would solve the problem SILLY ME!! It all seems very strange how all this has happened since 3 and Vodafone have become 1!!! Maybe trying to keep too many people happy do you think?? NOT HAPPY JAN.....

I have 2 phones joined to my account name and my pain commenced about 3mths ago!! Both phones were being used in 2 different areas of Adelaide with the same cpmplaint of no reception for hours at a time and text messages being received in bulk hours after they had been sent Vodafone were tellimg me it was the handsets which I could not really believe since they were not the same model phone but who was I to believe!? Hours on the phone on different days of the week for about 3 weeks we reset phone settings and many headaches later still for them not to have the connection I was paying for since both these phones are for my teenage sons they are actually my life line to them both. Finally they admitted it may be time for an upgrade so we did this about 4 weeks ago which was fine until about 2weeks ago and the pain has started again intermitten network again!! Then I saw this on the news last night and today tonight this evening so i thought I would join in and pass on my disappointment of paying for a service which Iam not receiving at the moment. Hope we can get this sorted out since I have also gone from $49 & $29 plans to 2 $69 plans hoping all would be good for the next 24months. Sue Elliott Greenwith S.A.

I too am stuck in a contract that I would otherwise be happy with other than the poor coverage. I have been with Vodaphone for 15 agonising months and have become so used to the drop outs and no reception that I just let people to only ring my mobile as a last resort.

I tried to complain through the vodaphone website 12 months ago. It was a nightmare. They asked dozens of irrelevant questions and wanted to know dates and times of drop-outs. Obviously they thought I was being smart when I said 'constantly' and 'all the time'and then got nasty in their emails. After about 4 weeks they eventually said the issue was 'I was in a low coverage area'. Yay - something I already knew. I just gave up.

I'm a mother with 3 kids and one has eliepsy and one has type 1 diabetes so try to always be avaiaible by phone in case of emergencies. I just make sure they always have another number.

Good things about Vodaphone? You never go over your monthly limit because you never have access to phone service. Never has problems in highly populated areas (ie not the Adelaide hills)

7370 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Bill Overcharge & Very Poor Customer Service at 28 Dec 2010 06:19:38 PM
After receiving an out of the ordinary phone bill for well over $300 for one month, I requested a fully itemised account from Vodafone. 4 months later, 7 phone calls, each time having to wait on hold from 30 to more than 45 minutes, I have received 5 copies of my original invoice (without the itemised call details). During my 5th phone call to Vodafone, I became frustrated, requesting to speak with either their supervisor or someone in Australia, both of which was refused. When I called the 7th time, I didn't bother explaining the problem with the CSO, but requested I be put through to the floor supervisor immediately. After fully explaining exactly what I want, the supervisor still emailed me the original invoice. I've now forwarded the issues with our Communications Ombudsman and am now waiting for contact from Vodafone. Of course, even though I've kept paying the payment plan on my mobile, they've cut off my phone service, which was poor anyway, especially once we leave Adelaide metro area. I'm so appalled at Vodafone's service and intelligence, especially considering this is my 3rd phone contract with Vodafone and I even convinced my partner to get a Vodafone mobile early 2009. Never again will I sign up with Vodafone nor will I ever recommend Vodafone to anybody again. What happened to them? Why have they outsourced their service centre to an overseas location, who can't even understand nor speak simple English!!!

I was a happy Three Mobile Internet customer. Vodaphone offered me a good deal to transfer to them. My troubles then started!! I activated my Vodaphone service. However, the USB modem would not connect.I went through all the headaches with Lara and the 40 minute waits for the Data Support Service for three days. One of the technical advisers finally came to the conclusion that the USB modem was faulty. This was exchanged at a local Vodaphone Sales Office. However, it still would not work. I then took my three week old computer to the supplier that I had bought it from. My operating system was Windows XP Service Pack 3. Apparently there was an "Issue" between Windows XP and the Vodaphone USB Modem. After about three days of trying to resolve this Issue, my computer supplier advised me to uninstall XP and install Windows 7. I did this at a cost of $149.00 and the Vodaphone service connected and works OK now.
28 Dec 2010 06:36:37 PM: Think you were given wrong info there. The software that runs the modem works perfectly fine under WinXP SP3, i have had no problems with it, its the OS i use, with SP3. Win7 much better than x; anyway so you have benifited but the upgrade was not necessary
1 Jan 2011 06:01:04 PM: Thanks for the reassurance that I have come out of it OK. However, I am still disappointed that I wasted many hours waiting for, and talking to about 5 different Vodaphone Data Tech Support Advisors. One even spent about 90 minutes talking me through the installation procedure, turning my Computer off and on, etc. Still, they still reached the conclusion that it was a faulty USB modem. My computer supplier had my machine for about 3 days before he gave up and conviced me to uninstall XP and change over to Win 7. This solved the problem. However, XP suited me fine, and I am now left with a pile of XP books that I have accumulated over 9 years and a Benq scanner that will not work on Win 7. Am just finding my way around Win 7. You sound as though you know a bit about this sort of stuff. To help convince me that I've ended up better off, Please let me know why you think that "Win 7 is much better that XP". Thanks for your advice so far. Have a happy and healthy 2011.

After checking that access would be available at Port Elliot in SA, I spent $89 on a mobile internet usb stick in Jan 2010, especially to provide Internet access while holidaying at Port Elliot in early Feb. I didn't need mobile Internet access at home - just while on holday. The thing never worked for more than a few minutes at a time, then eventually didn't work at all. What a waste. We didn't have the opportunity to use anything like the download limit. In all the calls I made to Vodafone trying to get access I was never offered a refund. In fact I received a letter or email reminding me to recharge to preserve my unused credit - no acknowledgement of the total failure to provide the service I had been promised. I had chosen Vodafone as I was a former satisfied mobile phone customer but after this experience I will never use or recommend Vodafone to anyone again. Don't tell us access is available in a location if it isn't! And offer to refund the cost!

7146 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Very x 3!!! at 28 Dec 2010 05:41:55 PM
I have been with 3 for years, i never had any trouble until recently. I have an iPhone 3gs and have had nothing but trouble with reception, missed calls, voice mail coming in days late, sms's not being recieved and getting them up to 3 days later!!! I have no internet coverage....even when im in the city!!!! I have to depend on my own WIFI internet connection at home....which is connected to telstra (Thank god). I have complained many of times, this one time in a store i was given a NEW sim card and told this should fix my reception problem....it did for 2 hours then back to the same crap.
I for the last 3 months have been on roaming.......when i got my last bill it was $120.00, $60 more than what my usual bill should be!!!
So much for a $49 cap, and an extra $10 data pack (especially when i use MY WIFI connection), fat big waste of money........only way to leave is to pay out my plan and move on....I dont have $987 though.
Oh and dont get me started about the Call Centre.........Thats another story!!!!

At last, someone has thought of a way to make vodafail & 3 accountable. Having been with 3 for two years prior and having very few problems, I signed myself and my two children up with them for another 2 year contract. Shortly after the problems began!! Constant dropping out and no coverage. We could not use our phones in our own home. When I phoned them they were more than willing to swap me over to vodafail. to start a new 2 year contract. (we were already 4 months onto our contracts) They claimed the coverage for vodafail was better in our Area. thank god we didn't take up the offer. Now we just have to spend the next 18months waiting out our contracts.

sister has vodaphone as do I. One day I heard her arrive but was bathing baby. So picked up on my phone to say hav a cig, be there in moment. But call cd not get thru to her. She later confirmed Her phone was switched ON but she was not talking to anyone on her phone at the exact time i phoned. But i was told that caller was out of coverage. So i did a quick text which she got. So how come i cd phone her on my phone, but she cd not receive call?. And if i had coverage how come 40 feet away she cd not get coverage? We both have same brand of phone. Madness!

My parents live in a country town where using previous providers I had no trouble with mobile coverage, with Vodafone there is no coverage. It renders my mobile as a paperweight as soon as I leave Adelaide. A lot of country towns where I used to have coverage with other companies, I am now uncontactable. When I purchased the mobile I was assured by the sales that I would have coverage like I had with previous companies.

7088 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is HORRIBLE at 28 Dec 2010 05:25:11 PM
I randomly lost credit and was charged to send FREE texts. I was also told I had free Facebook and Twitter on my phone, yet I was charged when I went on Facebook and Twitter. I tried to take matters into my own hands and call 1555 to speak to an operator, I was on hold for an hour and a half the first time and fours hours the next time that I tried on a different day. I sent them a complaint email, and to their credit, they replied in 2 days but it still does not erase the fact that they put me on hold for six and half hours total. IN the email reply they stated, "Vodafone regrets any inconvenience you have experienced due to the delays you have encountered. Vodafone are attempting to address the longer queues by investigating our current rosters, we are also currently training new staff that shall be available to take calls in the near future." Please train people faster and so they actually know what they are doing.
When I tried calling previously to ask a question about my faulty phone, I was put on hold for a lengthy amount of time and was then forwarded somewhere that was of no help.
I also had no coverage for half of Christmas day.
I am sick of talking to 'Lara' and I want REAL customer service, or I'm moving companies. Sorry Vodafone, I've been with you for at least 5 years and now you've completely lost the plot. Hmm.. What company should I choose? Optus? Telstra??

live in Virginia SA. Coverage maps show 100% 3G coverage in my suburb. Not so. Very poor reception where w have to stand out the front of the house and hold the phone up in the air and talk on speaker phone. Also in a number of spots on the road the phone makes a horrible scrambeled sound. Mobile internet is totally crap anywhere in Adelaide. Constant need to reconnect and then slows down to unusable after a few minutes.

I am struggling to get a decent connectivity. My prepaid USB mobile broadband drops out in less than 10 minutes. 50% of the time, reconnection is not even possible. I had a dialup account with Pacnet until two years ago - I had no issues. Only a bit slow. Now my Vodafone broadband drops down to speeds less than a 56K modem. What a disgrace! disgrace!! disgrace!! and nothing but disgrace!!!

28 Dec 2010 05:18:33 PM: If you are paying for insurance and your phone was stolen then call Vodafone Insurance on : 1800 808 743. State your name, mobile number and IMEI of the handset (this is on0the box your phone came in and also on your contract). They will give you a claim number. Head into store with that claim number and voila you'll have a new phone in approx 7-10 days. Oh, with theft, you will need a police report as well. Standard stuff buddy... can't just cancel a contract cos your phone was stolen..

I am tired of having calls drop out or having slow data with Vodafone, especially in metro areas! No more referrals from me Vodafone, you've lost my business and many of my friends and colleageues, not to mention our corporate account we are now cancelling and moving over to another carrier! Poor service and NO communication to us about the problems and what they are doing to fix it!

A couple of weeks ago I swapped internet providers to Vodafone, being PROMISED I would have coverage as the girl in the store supposedly lives 5 minutes from my house. I was with Crazy Johns (same/similar company, whatever) and have had nothing but trouble with their lack of coverage. Only went with Vodafone because apparently my USB wasn't covered for replacement any longer with CJ...... Have only been able to have a couple of hour sessions IF THAT during the month so far. I am seriously frustrated, sick of error messages and no coverage. I spent 20 minutes on the phone to have someone to help me fix the problem with it but I never got through to anyone. Will be canning the contract in the next few days as soon as I can organise to go with someone else. I have never had any problems with my mobile (Vodafone prepaid) but I'm looking to change that now too. Don't tell me that you can provide something if you can't!

6986 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Dead to me at 28 Dec 2010 05:06:24 PM
Hi,
I was a Microwave satellite communications technician and an Austel licenced telecommunications technician.
When I assisted Vodafone to put their mobile networks together around 15 years ago, they were the place to be.

Telstra had reliable coverage, but at great expense. They never seemed to be there when you really needed the coverage or the customer service.

Optus had lousy coverage with excellent customer service. But in direct competition with LIFELINE, they could counsel the customer to the point of curing mental illness...(if the line didn't drop out first...)

The end result of all this was that about half of all mobile calls were connected, completed and subsequently charged exorbitantly by Telstra.
At least when the other half of calls dropped out, you had someone who you could whinge to at Optus who would say "Yes" quite a lot.

Out of this came the shining beacon that was Vodafone. With their reasonable call rates, customer service and coverage!!! Once the news was out, all the technicians switched to vodafone in a flash.

Yes coverage! Vodafone had their own equipment! Without even resorting to network rental arrangements like all the other carriers had to do - 3, boost, dodo etc.
Because of this I used Vodafone for mobile telephone service for over 10 years, still do unfortunately.
Not for much longer!

Then I bought a prepaid broadband USB modem through Vodafone. After going to numerous Vodafone stores to wait AN HOUR to be served, only to find that the USB unit had "sold out" or was "out of stock". I then arrived at 2 separate Vodafone shop locations actively listed on the Vodafone website that were out of business.

I could have had the USB modem delivered by carrier pigeon by then, or made one myself with a broken digimon and a stick. As a tech I have installed (or failed) 4 of these units now, no two are alike. PC compatibility issues are rife.
The $49 USB modem does not even work in most netbooks, effectively making them underpowered miniature desktops.

Reception is appalling. I can see the tower from my house, it is 30 metres away. Line of sight!
As for the install - It would have taken less time to write the prepaid broadband USB software myself than to install it.
Registering, connecting and doing the initial install was the single most slow, painful and emotionally harrowing process I have had to endure in 20 years of software installation. It must be illegal under some convention somewhere...

Vodafone must have their website powered by underfed anorexic dyslexic hamsters.
These Hamsters are multitasking as the overworked software engineers...
The dead Hamsters in the bottom of the cage used to work customer service...

Mobile Broadband reception still drops out in the slightest breeze like UHF used to. I have tried USB extension cords (with some minor increase in signal strength) and modified broadband antennas. I am now blasting myself with enough RF to create my own personal cancer cluster or reheat a meat pie in three minutes...
At least it keeps my coffee warm while I sit through the install program - AGAIN!!!

Short of putting my PC in a Faraday cage and raising my own antenna mast or installing a parabolic dish on my head I cannot see Vodafone providing anyone with a usable mobile broadband connection.

Let's face it Vodafone, these towers were never designed to carry this amount of data traffic at this bandwidth.
The equipment is 15 years old, outdated, superseded and needs to be able to provide a continuous, consistent, reliable and strong signal. Roaming from tower to tower, 3G to GPRS and back again is painful, costly and disruptive.

Retailers should install "Vodafone" recycling bins at the front of retail premises. The junior work experience kid's arse has been turned into a thrashed USB port by the sheer number of returns this Christmas.

It's only 30 metres from my place to the tower. Hmmm... Maybe if I get a long piece of coax and climb up there and hard wire the bastard myself....
Oh sorry! That's called ADSL - YOU MORONS!!!!
