26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

eastern suburbs only 2 km from the centre of adelaide absolutely no service what so ever.I have to leave my house and walk 100m to get even 1 bar of signal, as you can imagine this can be very inconvenient not to mention that i can't use the internet through my mobile from the comfort of my home. Very slow access to the internet even if i have full service. I am paying a very high cap and what a waste of money. Once my contract is complete i will never use vodash*t again!

10215 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Big Time! at 4 Jan 2011 08:38:07 AM
I have had my new apple iphone with vodafone for 6 months. i have had nothing but trouble. Constant Drop outs, Loss of Network, No reception, receiving pxt messages sometimes takes 3-4 days from when they are sent to me and that is if i receive them at all! I have delayed voicemail normally approx by 8 hours! It is absolutely ridiculous. I contacted Vodafone in October last year and they told me that all of the trouble was because they were merging with another provider and that it would take some time to amalgamate all of the towers but that once it had happened it would all be better! I'm still waiting!!!!!!! Worst frustration is that being up the river over xmas and new year i had no phone reception what so ever, yet all of my family who are with numerous other providers had full recepion from each of the providers! Vodafone are supposed to be one of the biggest phone companies in Australia and yet all these dramas just never seem to get fixed. I AM OVER IT! I will be changing as soon as my contract is up! I'm counting down the days.

I and my wife are with vodafone we have had endless troubles since at least augst last year with phone drop outs, poor reception, mega slow download speeds. Recently getting worse with no coverage in Adelaide, my work at times can not get in touch with me, unable to connect to apple store and thats just the phones. I also have had epic issues with my wireless internet. with constant drop outs at random intervals atleast 10 times a day it fixes itself within five minutes but here i am paying top dollar for what essentially is woefull service.
3 Jan 2011 06:59:25 PM: adding to this i also had a call from myh wife a few days ago and when i answered there was this terrible ear piercing noise of what sounded like microphone feedback or fax machine/data modem noises.
5 Jan 2011 01:37:32 AM: i have that same problem too its so deafning ...its so annoying everytime i call some one it does that.... wats going on???

10150 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is indescribably bad at 3 Jan 2011 05:41:43 PM
Im less than 2km from Adelaide, and my coverage is appalling at best. I moved from 3 to Vodafone and the receptin improved, and noww 3 are Vodfone it has returned to it low 3 values.

In response to this issue, I was asked to stay home lst Friday as techos would be coming out to see what the issue was - no techo's no friends from MMumbai calling, just $700 down the drain for not going to work.

I called today only to be told this was a "low service area" and basically, they would reduce my $99 unlimited cap by $30 for 3 months and compensate me for $50 for my wased day at home - that might be the average wage in Mumbai, but that is 1/2 an hour to me.

I'm once again heading back to the TIO, where I willget my day refunded and should be able to get a commesurate rate for the crap service provided.

After this it it to ACME, or to ACCC, what Vodafone is providing is a misleading service, these international telcos come in and are not prepared for the stranglehold Telstra has on our system and offer a service that can barely be described as adequate - they should be constrained to evplain to all potential customers what the quality of the lines are like. There should be a inimum standard for telcos in Australia - made easier by a split of Telstra's wholesale and retail arms.

There are few products that reach our markets that do not do what they say they do - why is it that Telcos are allowed to operate in this way

If youre having no luck with the powerless fools in Mumbai, call TIO - they give you a reference nuber which is the key to getting the compensation you ddeserve - if they cannot iprove their systems, lets bleed them dry so they are unable to operate in Australia. Democracy mmeans choice, lets gut these feckless bastards with are our choice
4 Jan 2011 09:31:24 AM: Unless we are in different universes,I very much doubt you will get one iota of compensation via the industry funded TIO, no matter what case and how much evidence you out to them. Not only that, you can expect to spend plenty of time and money as they do what they do, and you will not be compensated for that.In case you want to pursue it, I strongly recommend you keep really accurate records of all communication with the TIO and Voodoofone.

10136 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Has never been so BAD! at 3 Jan 2011 04:21:22 PM
I'm on a very small $29 dollar vodafone plan and yet many of my phone bills when they come read over the $100 mark. They're tripling what I should be paying. My internet coverage is horrendous! The phone coverage all together has become a joke! Cuts out constantly during calls I make or receive. The biggest problem which has raised my bill to such enormous costs is text messages. I send one and the phone or the service sends about 10 of the same! Or it either doesn't send at all and just stays on the phone screen pending for hours! I've had enough! Changed my sim a dozen times, still hasn't fixed it! I knew it was either my phone and/or vodafone service coverage. But I can never get anything checked out or fixed properly without having to pay more and more! I now have to chase vodafone myself as they don't get back to you. I used to find vodafone so helpful and affordable, that's why I changed from the other big companies, but now vodafone has become just like the rest! Too big and disloyal to its customers! Shame. I really hope that action will be taken against vodafone as everyone is fed up. I'd gladly provide assistance.

Feb 2010 I recieved my bill, $1700 all up for one month. $1300 of it was for less than 5 minutes on the internet. It has taken me almost a year to get hold of anyone even willing to listen to me and even now I'm still struggling. I cannot understand their customer service reps on the phone and they have been extremely rude. Their is no way in hell I am paying for a $1300 mistake on their behalf. This is a $79 a month plan through Crazy Johns and it turned into this.
3 Jan 2011 10:51:49 AM: woohoo have internet after three days only because we just went down and got a telstra wirless..brilliant,ohh and vodaphone you can keep the $150.00 we just wasted on tour crap wirless, save it for the administrators when your business (so called)fore closes, we can only hope so .
3 Jan 2011 04:06:08 PM: unfortunately they are signing up new victims as we speak, their cash will keep the pyramid going until they rectify these problems
4 Jan 2011 08:40:58 AM: yes well hopefully with people power we can minimise or help crumble there pyrimid,i for one like probadly everyone on here are sick and tired of everyone screwing our asses off and getting away with it time after time whilst they make hefty profits,i may as well advertise a car that needs no fuel, oil or water, suck everyone in and who cares if it doesent run,no different to vodaphone.
6 Jan 2011 03:42:18 PM: Vodafone Australia's operations ARE resembling a Ponzi scheme.
Bernie Madoff and Nigel Dews sharing a cell for the next 150 years "I'd like to see that"
What's 150 years to a vampire?
I am a lot more familiar with the myths of Vodafone than I am with vampire mythology- so forgive me- A vampire would need fresh non-vampire blood for 150 years to just be a click of the fingers?

Just returning to work after being a stay at home mum for five years I needed to know that my children could reach me at any time so I signed up for three mobile phone contracts at vodafone, BIG MISTAKE It is very rare that I can call my kids or visa versa without our phones dropping out or even sometimes we dont have coverage at all. I have spoken to Vodafone several times only to be told that they are looking into the problem and they will get back to me, and SUPRISE SUPRISE THEY NEVER DO. I should of realised that the coverage was crap when two staff members in a Vodafone store that I went to had Telstra on their phones.

i am in a 24 months contract which ends in November/December this year. a have another whole year of this.

so my problem is with recieving phone calls. my phone won't ring but it will come up as a missed call. my recieved calls appear on the screen as missed calls. i don't even recieve half of my phone calls and half the time it will drop out or the phone call will just end. and only recently i cannot even call the person back.

also the internet is so pathetic, it takes minutes to load, and only sometimes will it load to an actual page instead of a blank one. plus it always drops out and closes for no reason.

ohh and on new years my phone reception was on and off all night which is very dissapointing.

9954 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is it ruined my NYE plans!!!! at 2 Jan 2011 03:19:35 PM
I have been a 3 customer for a long time now, and just recently noticed three has been taken over by Vodafail. Like many of other customers i had no problems until just recently.
2 days before NYE I had sent out lots of messages trying to confirm last minute details of NYE plans with close friends and family. Including some family from the UK which are in town for a short while. For those 2 days i was so confused on why i hadnt heard back from anyone. Me and my partner thought we must have been really bad or lame party animals and know one wanted to spend NYE with us. I even tried ringing them and I couldn't get through! So me and my husband stayed home for NYE which was very unusual for us. At 10PM NYE I had received 17 messages/voicemail messages with in 2 mins from the last 48hours. All asking what our plans were for NYE ...and where to meet certain people! So THANKYOU for ruining our NYE 2010 plans..what a way to bring in the new Year!!! I am still very ANGRY, and so is my family and friends. Thankyou for ruining it for everyone!
2 Jan 2011 09:47:08 PM: 3 and Voda are still separate networks, and it was a merge, no one bought anyone.
4 Jan 2011 04:23:54 PM: okay yeah thanks...i didnt really know what was going on. Was just trying to explain it the best i could!

I live approx 20km from a major town and can not get reception on either mine or my partners phone. We lived in the city when we took on the 24 month contracts, and even though they can not provide us with the service we require, we can not cancel our contract with out large penalties.
We recently went to the city for a holiday and stayed at a friends house. And surprise! No reception. Their only issue is that they live in a slight valley. In this day and age, how hard is it to provide decent coverage???!!!

9875 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is they take your money and make you lose work at 2 Jan 2011 07:53:29 AM
I have never had working voicemail. Never. What I mean by not working is that it always says " Voicemail Unavailable- Could not authorize access". Also has that red circle on the voicemail sign most of the time. They first blamed my phone then they reset (??) my account and then they just said I would need a new phone but it would cost me extra because I wasn't due for a new phone. When I was due a new phone I would then have to start a new 2 yr contract to stay on with Vodafone which is ofcourse the last thing I want to do. I have the first iPhone they brought out on the unlimited $120 something plan (which always seems to change for unknown reasons). I work relief at my work and therefore voicemail is really important. I have lost work from my voicemail not working. I have had calls that don't show up on my phone as missed calls and then days later I get a whole bunch of voicemails come through if I call 121. Every missed call I get I have to call to check if I have voicemail. If I'm lucky it shows up straight away when I call.
With picture messages I often don't get them until days later.
My iPhone also had a broken sensor from early on which means I often call other people and txt people with my face while I'm on the phone. Not funny if they are work people or clients. I don't know how much vodafone take blame for the phones that go with their plans but it seems ridiculously unfair to sign someone up for a two year plan without providng a phone that can last that long.
At my beach house in Robe SA I have on occasion one DOT, not bar, of reception, within the house. This is if I have my phone placed on the pool table and the other night I was lucky enough to have it fall off so now my screen if cracked. Not even tempted to get it fixed as the sensor is broken anyway and it is the old iPhone.
That reminds me of how it won't let me update to the new iWhatever version is the latest. So obviously then Vodafone can blame my computer or another source for all of the above problems.
March 2011 is when I will finally be set free from Vodafone and I will not ever go back. Sick of wasting my time, losing work and wishing my time away to get out of this contract.

nothing special, got shown a crudely drawn map and told yep you get coverage there, but it will be a little slow (wireless BB). "coverage" apparently means you get to stay online for seconds at a time before complete dropout. Thanks for this website, I hope people continue to make a noise, and that vodafone burns.
2 Jan 2011 05:53:25 AM: Im totally with you. I get almost zero network coverage for my mobile broadband here. I got told I could buy a booster to get better coverage which would cost me around $70-$100 but that my laptop would no longer be "mobile"!!? I'd have to use it in the same spot. Doesnt that defeat the whole purpose of being "mobile"? And if I do need a booster because of their poor coverage, they should give me one for free, especially if they want me to keep on using their service!!

My second complaint is the excess charges for using data. I am a basic user of emails and cannot understand or cannot get any help from vodafone regarding this problem. 9792 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Confidence Trick ? at 1 Jan 2011 03:14:18 PM
Furthermore, when I signed the contract, Vodaphone failed to advise upfront that the indicated off their site usage could be up to 48 hours behind actual usage.

It took a $350+ plus bill and just having my service cut off without ANY warning whatsoever for days before I had to phone India that I discovered the problem. I firmly believe this is a con designed to trap the unwary. Why is this fact not released at the time of purchase and not hidden in small print on Vodaphone's site? How can anyone budget for usage when the statistics are 2 days old ? It is impossible under the terms of use that one can get the 6Gb of data I pain for without over running and incurring extra cost at 10 cents a Mb !

I would NEVER EVER get involved with this company again- In my opinion, they are just confidence tricksters and plain dishonest. Also, it's pointless trying to complain as they are plainly not interested as long as the $$$ keep flowing.

It's time the likes of this mob are removed from the Telco pool in Australia- we deserve better than this con job and the likes of the dodgy directors of the company!

I feel like I have been mugged by this company !

My Vodaphone 3 mobile service has been essentially useless as even my email times out sometimes. Most times I just give up trying to download a page with constant timeouts. I'm being slugged $40/ month on a two year contract for this rubbish. I can get a dialup service for a fraction of this cost but now I have yet another 12 months of expensive, useless frustration. Surely Vodaphone can't hold me to a 'contract' that they fail to honour ? I will NEVER sign another 2 year contract with any Telco again! Rating ? I'd give them about 1 out of 10.

9712 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is very poor! at 1 Jan 2011 09:33:41 AM
I am aggrieved over amount of wasted time and money spent with a 24 month Vodafail usb modem contract. We chose the option for mobility and after vigorous assurance from Vodafail staff that our home close to the Adelaide CBD was located within a reception hotspot. Total rubbish, but they stuck to the claim when I complained about continuous disconnections and lack of reception - we spent far more time waiting to (re)connect than online and then the service was excrutiatingly slow and unable to download moderately sized files or open many web pages. Usb modem replaced with updated model after a year but severe problems persisted and only worsened. Had to use local library service to download and upload university assignments after I missed submission deadline due to connection cut-outs at home. Waited out contract as didn't think there was anything we could do. After we responded to Vodafail's enquiry as to why we wouldn't extend contract, there was no effort to persuade us to change our mind as they obviously can't provide what they promise. Shopfront staff were always friendly but just couldn't help. We are now with another provider with broadband and very happy.
Also took Vodafail 9 months to update my partner's credit card details so he could recharge his phone service actually using his phone!

I haven't found to much wrong with the communication or getting connected. Except that |I am a "prepaid customer" the varances between a prepaid and contract comustor is far to out landish. Prepaid really get hammered when they have paided their money upfront.
1 Jan 2011 10:52:05 AM: I have a prepaid mobile broadband with vodafone - NOt HAPPY!
when my problems first started, i lost my internet connection - was like i had dial up speed (only much much slower than what i remember)
I was taken to the vodafone recharge page (so i assumed i must have used up all my data)
so I happily recharged for 12 months - only to find out, i still had 2G of data still available and then had no connection for the next 5 days.
now a month later - and i get the same shit all over again - woo hoo
what a waste of money vodafone!!

Today where i live it was 43 degrees and we could not contact someone to fix our air conditionor because my phone kept cutting out. I always have trouble calling people or even txting. My mums also on Vodafone and has had so much trouble not recieving messages when sent, messages not being recieved when sent and i can never ring her because she cant get service. Not happy Vodafone :(
31 Dec 2010 04:58:03 PM: If you call the TIO they will be able to help you cancel your contract with no charges as vodafone are failing to provide a service you are paying for. the TIO will give you a ref number and vodafone will have to resolve the issue within 3 weeks.

Very poor service at Westbourne Park. calls drop out and signal strength rarely above 1 bar. Frustrating with the number of phone calls that need to be remade or returned because of drop outs.
Maybe the current management team at Vodafone was secretly installed by Telstra to boost their share price?

9454 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is appalling at 31 Dec 2010 09:07:38 AM
During October, I moved our buisness mobiles from Telstra to Vodafail. After two months of basicly no service at all for any of our staff at out production facility, we are now back with Telstra.
For a good part of the time we had no service and this was not a phone dependent thing, as it was largly the same over Nokia, HTC & Samsung Phones. Ocasionally when you did get service, it still didn't work properly with haphazard dropouts and disconnects.
On one occasion, I was able to answer a call, talk to the person on the other end, a land line, and then after about a minute the call dropped out. I was standing in a padock, the most significant object in this padock was a round hay bale. How does that work? I had service and then it just stopped. How does that work? Did the signal spit the dummy, pick up its bat and ball and go home?
After about a week of waiting on hold to Vodafone customer "we don't" care, we are now free from the vodafail menace.

I have a prepaid voda usb modem. i can be right smack bang in the middle of 3G coverage and get slower than dialup on GPRS, because 3G connection just doesnt happen.

i am lucky, because the credit i have is for 12 months, so unlike many others i am sure, i am not having my credit run out before i can use it, becuase of its complete unusuability.

BUT... i did have to fork out for credit for my other USB stick, which is Telstras, and we all know how expensive that stuff is for even a small amount of data.

Why arent the media representing that 3G issues dont just affect phone users?

Just like everyone else, no svc on my ph and no svc from customer svc. I was on hold today for 35 mins as I needed to log my 'fault examples', I was them told I had the wrong department. I was transferred and 40 mins later I received someone else who said they can only test 3 sites not everywhere and I would need 3 examples from 3 specific sites so that they could start a log and investigate. I have now been on this call for 20 mins and STILL they are saying that they cant help me as I need 3 examples on the same location before they can log a fault!!!! I have 6 examples from just yesterday and this isnt good enough as I wasnt at the same address for all the faults! Hello doesnt that prove that they have a problem????!!!! I went looking for a new phone at voda's Tea Tree Plaza branch on a Saturday afternoon 2 weeks ago around 20 minutes before closing. I looked at the displays for less than 2 minutes & looked around the room for assistance from the 7 female staff gathered around the counter discussing their 'private' plans for the night in full voice. After what seemed an eternity, I got fed up with being ignored & took a photo of them in their glory. One little cutie even posed & smiled. I smiled back & calmly walked out, waiting for one of seven to say 'excuse me sir, can I help you' . . . My Wife mentioned that they just don't care. I agree!
31 Dec 2010 07:55:25 AM: I had a similar experience in that very shop about 2 months ago, so I amused myself by doing the survey thing on the gadget on the counter, several times over. One of the questions was about being attended to, or something, and I answered honestly (every time I did the survey). I thought it was a fake, and what you've written indicates I was right, since it seems as if the staff are worse, not better. It makes recent statements by Vodafone just a little bit harder to believe.

I lost a weeks work when data cut in and out with Iphone 4 tethering. Vodafone made me buy a mobile USB. Back running for a while, then totally no data. I lost 3 days work when I changed to optus. Now fine on Optus.
My festival business just started up, and I was told the package they sold me would suit me and work for me. This was a lie. Early days in a new thing is not a good tome to loose customers after building repport for over a year. We book bands on line, use on line agents and communicate by email. SCoRCHeR FeST Pty Ltd was also offered a sponsorship with Vodaphone. No feedback from them, no return calls with our problem and hours on end being put on hold.
We will not accept a sponsorship now, and we have lost about 1/2 our bands and are struggling to keep up and make up ground. In essence, Vodafone mislead us, and we have nothing they promised. Thank you for making a class action. Andrew Cooper. 0402 049742 scorcherfest@scorcherfest.com.au

Thank god for the TIO they proved that the amount of calls that were made were a lot of Tripple charged calls...ie They charged me three times for the same call. After getting my Name cleared moved to Three on a new contract, with no issues with billing and a very happy customer....Till Vodafail takes over the show.....Back to Square one again....Cant even send or call overseas while the girlfriend is away....

Going back to Telstra....They rip you off! but attest you know they are doing it and give you some kind of service that works.

In Thailand in November 2010 I used a friend's Telstra mobile to call Vodafone in Australia to get international roaming on my Vodafone mobile. (I did not arrange this while in Australia but was told when I inquired with Vodafone I could do it at any time - even when overseas.)

After a couple of calls to Vodafone, which dropped out, a further call connected and ran for over 57 minutes until it finally got answered by a live person, but promptly dropped out after I started my conversation. I am ujp for the cost of the call, but I should try to get Vodafone to meet the cost - buckley's I expect and not worth calling Vodafone, just to wait on line each time and get dropped out again and again.

Disgruntled.

It was meant to be able to give me 3G service and it never did.
After many calls to support and going through their turn this off turn this on, nothing fixed my problem. I have terminated my contract and now they want to charge me for the termination too. I do not believe I should pay this termination fee for something that never worked.

Since buying a Nokia 6121 vodafone service at Modbury North/Modbury has been a failure thanks Vodafone. Seems Vodafone has very poor coverage in this area as the only tower is at Milne Road Modbury North compared to Telstra /Optus who have towers at Tea Tree Plaza (Hospital) both offer serious coverage for the network user comapred to Vodafone.
Also vodafone cell id states the suburb your from the direction of the antenna and not the all round cell id from the site like Telstra / Optus thus making it seem like they have lotsa towers.

Good day my wife and I received 2 iPhones on a vodafone contract since we first received the phones we have been complaining about poor signal and coverage.I was told to take the phones into the tea tree gully centre. The sim cards were swapped and I was told that the problems would go away. I did not I received my bill that month which was and still is outrageous. I complained with no avail. I refused to pay the bill and immediately the service was terminated. I paid and contacted vodafone again as neither of us could send or receive text messages I was told to reset the network settings a month ago but since then and still now we can not send or receive text messages. But I this morning received a text from vodafone saying that I owe them 570 dollars for the past months service. Could you please help me I need to get justice. My number is (MODERATED BY Vodafail - Best not to post your mobile number online.).
30 Dec 2010 12:17:36 PM: Hi, I have removed your mobile number from the post because it is not safe to post personal contact details on the wide open internet. This sounds like a pretty serious issue and if you can't through to anyone at Vodafone or they are not willing to help / compensate you then go directly to the TIO (http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp). On the contact form you can enter the amount of money you are disputing. However first contact Vodafone again today (if you haven't already), after all this attention they should be more willing to help. But if not lodge your complaint with the TIO immediately as it can take some time to get through. All the best. -Vodafail

I am sick of ringing customer service, pressing a million buttons to get to where I want to be and listening to Lara for up to an HOUR! Then as if that isnt bad enough the person on the other line I cant understand and when I ask for them to please repeat what they are saying they get all shitty at ME! Not to mention the very good dodging of questions I ask. The service the past month has been crap. I will have full bars then when I go to make a call or connect to internet it dies saying "no service". Ironically I wrote Vodafone an upset letter several months ago. They never responded. Thought I'd share it here:

9th June 2010

Dear Vodafone Australia VH3,

You might know me. I'm that guy who two years ago came to your network for the awesome that was and still is the iPhone. You'll probably also remember I was number 6 in line, just incase you forgot my dedication or colossal nerdisim (you be the judge), to stand in the blistering cold for hours to get one. I have had a problem with the network but I've let this fall by the wayside too many times and finally after contacting your company on several occasions to voice my concerns, they have fallen on deaf ears with no resolution. I have little choice but to write you this diatribe related to your network.

I live in Gawler, South Australia. Don't recoil in fear, it's okay, I don't wear flannelette, (Okay, I did once for a themed party at uni, but the shirt belonged to a friend). However, I have chosen to subscribe to your network for my mobile telephone and iPad 3G data services, this is where the problem is. Your company's website maps for coverage dictate that Gawler has full 3G network service, which when you're using peripherals that use your network, you'd believe it too based on the full bars you see in the signal indicator. This is where this shit gets real. The minute you access data or calls, it suddenly becomes slow and laggy and unresponsive, inside or outside, trust me, I'm like a nomadic gypsy trying to find a good spot for reception. I have even been known to stand in bizarre positions to act as a human antenna to increase signal. All of this and resolution. Nothing works and i'm pretty sure it is because it's your fault. Not my house, not my geographical location but the speed at which you allow data to be delivered at my location. I know this because when I'm closer to Adelaide the speeds are normal. I used Speed test.net's official ass kicking application to test your network speeds and in the town of Gawler, main street near my house and It clocks 40.8kb/sec download where as with Gawler's sister hood, Elizabeth and the major city of Adelaide attain speeds of around 258KB/sec and higher. Full signal in all locations, yet so much variation in speed, sickening isn't it? PS I'm aware the city uses HSDPA technology which is why I also mentioned Elizabeth's hood, that is the same as Gawlers but with a bigger population, probably less teeth and more flannelette though.

Initially I thought I was crazy or heaven forbid, maybe the iPhone who gets a bad wrap for signal was to blame but I've even had a blackberry, same old story. I really didn't want the iPhone to be the blame because I love it which can be supported by the fact that the girls at uni have learnt to convert my iPhone rants into chemical energy like plants converting light energy in to chemical enrtgy as food but I'm glad to say, it's certainly not the iPhone, iPad or Blackberry as the myth was busted by the aforementioned. These speeds akin to dial up of circa 1997 are probably suitable for some of Gawler's subscribers but they don't have any teeth, I do, and I feel that it's one of the reasons why they settle for the less that I can't stand for.

So I decided that instead of just bitching in my mind about it every time I tried to access google boob search (you might know it as google image search) and I, as a result, die a little bit inside from frustration of slow speed. Left with that feeling similar to one of jumping on a bag of puppies. I decided I'd call in to let you guys know and maybe you could check it out and fix your tower or something and I could get on board and be in love with you again. So I placed a call, presumably to india. I spoke to lovely bunch of people that had names more Australian and generic than mine, PS no one is called 'Betty' or 'Gavin' anymore (You should remind them of this when they're assigning themselves 'Australian' names). Anyway, they were up to their old tricks again both times, those tricksters! They hand balled me to all sorts of other service teams, back and forwards about 4 times on each occasion until someone would finally pretend to log my problem and a technician would call me back within 72 hours to give me the results. Well I'm not sure and I forgot to ask but I've been overseas lots before and all the places I've been use the same day and time format that Australia uses. India may be the exception but even in Indian hours, a week of Australian and 'normal' time, should at very least be equivalent to 72 Indian hours, if this isn't the case, are they even in 2010 yet?

Based on this I would like Vodafone Hutchings 3 Australia to take this letter as a formal complaint against your services and finally take action and rectify your claims if you are not otherwise prepared to bring your network up to the standards you claim. Otherwise I shall be forced to move to network that doesn't hurt me anymore. I guess at this point I should probably also point out that I decided to stand in Vodafone's line those fateful two years ago only because you opened a whole hour earlier than any other store, grounding isn't it? Yeah, that's what I thought...

Regards,

Andrew

Straight through to the voicemail when connected via 3G. Now I only use 2G. Slow SMS, voicemail notification. Often hours later and sometimes days. Extremely slow data at the best of time. Often it will NOT work with full reception.
Emailed Vodafone support. Replied back in over 1 week to say if you are still having problems, let us know. Just a robot respond. They don't even read my email. DISGRACEFUL!!!!

I had wondered as to why my mobile phone connected to Vodaphone often cut out during a course of conversation in the CBD and about 11 kms out at Windsor Gardens, At first i thought it had something to do with the geographical location of Adealide and my relationship to the communications towers on Mount Lofty, so I started facing North-South when making a phone call interstate and overseas. but teh problem persisted, even had the mobile phone checked to see if there was the fault of the phone. My friends i often joked that it was ASIO
listening in and the government spying on us and when we used certain political words,we were cut off, but your investigations into vodaphone have proven otherwise.

I am contracted to 3 mobile, which I believe is owned/operated by Vodafone. Terrible issues with reception, drop-out calls etc. A previous email to 3 mobile with specific requests was answered with a generic response - not specific to my problems. Very disappointing. Garry
30 Dec 2010 08:43:26 PM: 3 Mobile is not owned or operated by Vodafone. They are a separate network who occassionally use Vodafone towers before Telstra towers. Vodafone AND 3 are owned by VHA - Vodafone Hutchison Australia. Maybe you should get your information correct before posting.

Vodafone, which is now owner of Three tried to resign me on another 24 month contract with Three in September after I stongly complained about the lack of service, reception, large number of drop out calls and the failure of two handsets not covered by warrenty. It was only after this that the call center operator asked where I lived so that he could check Three's coverage in the area...to my suprise there was no coverage at my address.

It is my belief that when I signed up with Three, providing all my detail, including my address, they should have performed this 'reception preformace test' and informed me that I would have no reception at my place of residence...Three (Vodafone) entered into a contract with me to provide a service which they knew they could not provide.

I am now with Telstra and doubt I'll ever change.

Lately my friends have asked me why I send the same SMS TWICE to them... But I don't though. I wonder if VodaFail will be charging me for the second message? In the New Year, I will be breaking up with VodaFail after being with them since 2007.

Vodafone's Internet is so slooow. Everyday, often, Download speed 0bps and after midnight, well you are lucky if any speed, coz most of the time no speed at all and I live in the centre of Adelaide. Customer Service and "Lara" laughable ! Waited 60 minutes with constant "your call is important to us, we'll be with you shortly...and music...and again....and again...and again". Shame Vodafone, shame.
30 Dec 2010 02:34:03 AM: YES! Every minute that 'Lara' recording chimes in. I believe it's a ploy to get people to hang up.

If I could change, I'd throw my Vodafone SIM out tomorrow. I unfortunately have no choice - my company has a national contract with Vodafone "because they are cheap". What a terrible mistake some bean counter has made - a false economy.

I work in the heart of Adelaide, and am dumbfounded that in this day and age, I cannot reliably hold a connection. On some days, the network is so poor, that my calls go straight to voicemail, as my phone has no service. The final issue to top it all off is, the voicemail notification service sometimes takes hours to days, to notify me that a message is waiting.

I've had phones with Telstra & Optus, and I'm wishing I still had. Even though their plans are a little more expensive, their networks are FAR superior to Vodafone. Beyond the CBD is yet another sad story. Many days I have to wait until I get close to suburbia, so that I can make a call.

What a pity these reception & reliability issues continue to persist - I resent having to carry around a phone service that is "touch & go". Vodafone - I hope you will act on the comments of your customers.

Getting a contract with Vodafone was the biggest mistake of my life. While they are certainly the best value for money on contracts, a phone contract is no good when you can't get coverage anywhere! If I want coverage, I have to walk down to the end of the street and stand with my phone in the air waiting for a message to send. I've spoken to Vodafone about this, and they say that the reception in my area is fine, so it must be the building I live in. Yet my dad gets perfectly fine reception on 3, who are now the same company as Vodafone anyway?!

THIS IS ILLOGICAL.
29 Dec 2010 10:20:23 PM: Actually 3 are still using the NextG network for most of their towers, they haven't been crossed over completely to the Vodafone towers yet, but it will happen shortly.
29 Dec 2010 10:30:11 PM: Well it had better hurry up and happen, because this is just ridiculous!
29 Dec 2010 10:48:52 PM: I am not sure why you would want it to happen, as that means your dad will have the same poor coverage as you?
30 Dec 2010 02:39:57 AM: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Why the hell would 3 Hutchison switch to Vodafone's towers?!
30 Dec 2010 12:59:43 PM: I was under the beleif that telstra bought 40% of threes towers a fe wyears ago, wondering if three will retain the 60% they still own??
30 Dec 2010 03:59:40 PM: Telstra leased the towers to "3" they didn't buy them. Now that Vodafone have bought 3 the contract is basically void. 3 customer have been told by three/voda customer service that they are using Voda towers and not Telstra.

1. I travel to SA from WA. My Vodafone connection works well in WA. In SA (inner city postcode 5037), the signal keeps dropping out. I like Vodafone as an alternative to Telstra, but I can't do my professional job when I am in SA.

2. Another thing. When I travel in Australia and am not within reach of a Vodafone signal, why can't I piggyback on Telstra, even at a cost. I can do this in every other country I visit overseas.

I don't know who is responsible for issue (1). The Federal government could legislate for issue (2).
29 Dec 2010 08:57:02 PM: In answer to question 2, because the NextG network (Telstra) do not wholesale access to their towers in Australia. Originally they gave 3 access to the NextG towers, but since Vodafone and 3 merged, Telstra is slowly taking away access to those towers as Vodafone are a major competitor. It is entirely up to Telstra who they wholesale access to on those towers, as those towers are owned solely by Telstra.
30 Dec 2010 07:09:10 AM: Incorrect. Telstra let 3 piggyback of there 2100MHz towers.

Vodafone sux! I signed up for wireless broadband with 3 Mobile 2 years ago and due to such poor reception I was able to transfer to Vodafone (unfortuantely starting a new 24 month contract) 1 year ago, as they assured me I would get a much better reception. No such luck. For over a year now I have had constant reception issues BUT they will not cancel my plan (and I have to resort to using my partner's Telstra wireless broadband USB - which is excellent). I have spent dozens of hours on the phone to Vodafone's Indian based Technical Dept, trying to solve my constant issues with various alternatives to try. I currently am using a sharing dock that Vodafone sent me, which now makes my so called mobile wireless not mobile (portable) and reception is still not great, regularly dropping me out. I just want to get out of my contract instead of paying my monthly invoices for NO SERVICE!

I have a business account and can't wait until my Vodaf@#% contract runs out in April and I can move my phones to Telstra. Vodaf@#% oversell and underdeliver. Maybe the CEO can pull back on the 'glory' sponsorships of V8's and cricket and invest in improving the network. The current leadership will be remembered for screwing a good brand and not much else.

I have no problems with Vodafone's call and text functions, having never had either of them fail. That is one thing i'm grateful for. However for work I often rely on receiving emails from staff and this is where the problem becomes most apparent. The data network has only ever performed as expected perhaps once or twice over the two years i've been with Vodafone. Usually it works well enough to retrieve email summaries or some basic details. Most of the time it just simply doesn't work at all, even in 5-bar coverage GPRS and 3G areas. Vodafone have been fine otherwise, not counting the automated phone system "Lara", but the data network and its share of problems somewhat dampen the experience for me.

I've not really ever had a problem with phone coverage for calls and sms.. however the internet coverage is poor, at best. It's extremely slow and often times out.
In addition to this.. I am on a $29 cap plan that is supposed to include 200MB of data yet I am charged, on every bill, for data use that is *always* under 200MB and the only site I regularly access is Facebook, which is supposed to be free. Latest bill clearly states the following for Data use: Sub Total 25.95MB $94.12 $34.16.

$94.12 is listed as Original Amount and $34.16 as the amount payable. This alone doesn't even make sense.. let alone why I'm being charged for Data at all.

Annoyingly, I suspect a few times I simply just payed my bills and didn't check but when I moved recently I started using my phone a lot more and the bills were quite high (well over my cap, doh) and that is when I started checking my usage and refusing to pay the data fees.
Of course, to refuse to pay the data fee one must call Customer 'Service' and endure the epic length hold times to then argue with someone who fails to understand WHY I'm refusing to pay the data fee.

A world of /facepalm. Thankfully my contract *just* ran out, so I'm looking at other companies as we speak.
29 Dec 2010 05:40:57 PM: Ah, 55 minutes on hold this time. I gave up.

New iPhone 4 customer. Cannot get stable Internet browsing or data transfer. I'm supposed to get 1.5GB per month but due to poor speed and dropouts I can't even get close so what am I paying for. When I complained, I was told to turn my phone on and off....do you think I hadn't already done that! When I complained in writing I was asked loads of irrelevant questions...how often do you use your phone, how long for, is it an iPhone 4.....nothing about my data woes
