Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

7007 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Name appears under "fail" in dictionary at 28 Dec 2010 05:09:45 PM
Rejoined Vodafone in March 2010 and within the month remembered why I left in the first place. Took 8 weeks to get my voicemail set up (website down & tires of being placed on hold by India - store staff of no help), call dropouts every day, daily call failures - 4 bars yet still searches for reception. Tried having a conversation with a fellow Vodafone user (he was in Merrylands I in Balmain) phone dropped out about 15 times. Poor service and if it didn't cost me so much to get out of contract I'd be gone.

I thought it was me until my friend who got a contract at the same time said she was experiencing reception problems too, dropped out calls, even my voicemail, I have to check it every now and then because I don't get a message to say there is one waiting to be heard! Internet so slow I have to turn my phone off and on to get some sort of reception! But the worst is dropped calls! Very Frustrating! They were good before, but something obviously happened. And doesn't help being on hold for a long time and then talking to someone reading from a script!!!!

Purchased a blackberry and had nothing but trouble with it, phone freezed and would have to remove the battery and reboot(15 mins) finally after months of pain i sent it off to vodafone. I received a new blackberry same model. It worked for two weeks then started freezing. I swapped to a friends iphone and received huge excess charges due to internet downloads being different for the blackberry. I have had dozens of phone calls and had to endure LARA and enter my details in many times only to have to repeat them when you finnaly get through to an incompetent call centre. I have been forced to pay all costs and told i would have to pay out all costs in order to end my contract.

In short Lousy phone, pathetic reception(throughout NSW and QLD) Dropped calls, delayed messages, internet slower than dial up internet...

Vodafone is a huge company focusing on their profits and bottom line and could not really care about the consumers.. Do not use Vodafone!!

6912 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extremely at 28 Dec 2010 05:00:20 PM
Have unfortunately been with Vodafone for 3 years. First phone I had broke 4 ones with different issues (software buffered up, wouldn't turn on) and was forced to pay a 50 bond every time I took it back to have fixed. Was told after the third time they didn't have any spare phones so I was told to call Vodafone myself and tell them I refused to pay for an upgrade when my phone was still in contract. I did that, got on another 2 year plan (which I said I didn't want in the first place but was told that was the only way to go. Was also advised against
Insurance after it didn't help at all last time.) got a new phone, had it for three months and that broke so called again and they said to take it into the store. Only problem they closed the store closest to me earlier so I would've had to drive 150kms... I then decided to just buy an iPhone outright so I could get off my plan as soon as it was up, ordered it online and was told 3 weeks, which was fine. I called 4 weeks later, waited for half an hour and was told that it was ordered fine, and would be arriving soon. Another 3 weeks later I called again to be told that it hadn't Bern ordered at all and I would need to order another, which I couldn't do that day because I had just paid my bill and it didn't show up on the system. Again u called up the next day, ordered another phone, and was told it was ordered in priority service, buy still took 3
More weeks to arrive.
I also don't get service in parts of my house, and the usual dropped calls and missed messages...

Im with 3 mobile and prior to the merge between voda and 3 I had pretty good service as I roamed to telstra, and only telstra when i had no coverage with 3.

since the merge, the network automatically set my phone to prefer vodafone in areas with no 3 coverage. I have constant dropped calls etc, my only option is to force my phone to roam onto telstra permanently. Just to make decent calls.

I thought it was just me... wow... In Hobart we get the same issues, call dropouts, network disappearing when I try to make a call and consistently late sms & voicemail. I transferred to Vodafone over 2 years ago because the staff provided excellent service, and transferred my two daughter's phones soon after. But i worry sometimes if they try to call and have no reception. I thought it was just a Hobart (or Tasmanian) issue with reception. I am astounded it is in the other capital cities as well!

I am a 3 customer who now has to put up with the appalling Vodafone network !It is a huge change from the Telstra radio network which we used to use before Vodafone bought out 3. Most of my calls dropout and it's defaulting to EDGE most of time instead of 3G when I actually can get on to the Internet.

I suspect Vodafone's problem is that it has changed to Nokia for it's network equipment. There were few problems when they were using Ericsson equipment!! It seems like Vodafone has capacity & network planning issues to resolve quickly.

6490 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Very! at 28 Dec 2010 12:14:34 PM
Virtually NO reception at home (and therefore my home office from where I conduct business). There is literally only a tiny bit of reception in one tiny corner of the house about 1 square metre - outside of that, forget it - even OUTSIDE the house...nothing. Frustrating to say the least, let alone inefficient, and time-consuming when attempting calls/internet access or even just answering a client call!! If it wasnt for my landline and home WIFI for backup, I'd really be screwed. As it is, I am losing a lot of money on unused VF calls on the so-called "plan" as I simply can't use it! Its not just my home (Tapping WA 6065 - a popular Perth suburb), but also in other areas like Joondalup - a major local business and shopping district, which should have excellent coverage, and to VF's credit normally does... however last week there was ZERO coverage for two days there!!?? The inconsistency and generally poor reception, dropped calls, etc is simply unacceptable for a major player like VF, regardless of what plan you're on - and I'm on a pretty expensive one...

Moved from Three to voda due to poor reception, voda has been even worse than three. Only benifit that we got was not being charged got roaming.

Reception and 3g performance have been very poor in tuggeranong. I have to be in open air to get good reception.

I have been in Sydney the last few days and found out why people here are having issues. Delayed messages dropped calls and not being able to make calls at all with full bars.

I'll give them a few more weeks before calling cancelling my contract.

I have contacted VF via email after being kept on hold for an hour only to speak to an Indian who couldn't help me. They have admittedly been friendly in their email responses, however they give you 120hrs to respond and assume your problem has magically gone away if you don't respond in that time! I have basically been told to switch to 2G and note the details of any dropped calls or inability to make calls - like I have the time whilst working to note all this down!! VF just keeps telling me their "techs" are working to resolve the issue and have offered me no compensation even though having to remake dropped calls is making me go over and above my capped amount every month.

After only 12 months with this crap carrier I rang to advise of poor reception. I spoke with an agent (after their 4th attempt to contact me due to no reception and dropouts) who said to me that I could have free service for 3 months and if still unhappy could cancel free of charge. After a further 2 weeks I couldn't take it any more so rang to cancel only to be told that will cost you $1250. I kindly informed them that the previous man said that I would not have to pay they called me a liar! After being on the phone for over 8 hours yes 8 HOURS and still many call dropouts and no reception during this time we came to an agreement of $250. They really are hopeless and would not recommend to anyone! Good luck with the class action I hope it sends them bankrupt as I have lost plenty of money from missing out on work over the time I was customer with them!

the usual dropped calls, no reception...EVER!, poor battery life and delayed voicemail messages...
AS WELL AS; shocking customer service, a complete disinterest in the customers.
Constant overdue accounts because they are too lazy to reprocess credit cards... they try once and assume my card has been rejected! I am sick of the inconvenience of having to get on the phone with the every bloody month!
Cant even understand what the person on the other side of the phone is saying to you half the time.
I have been waiting for my phone o be unlocked for weeks now! and all they can say is there is nothing we can do! AND!!! they charge a fee to unlock it... Optus doesn't.
I have been with Vodafone for 10 years and this is the last... as soon as my contract is up I am moving over to another carrier. I AM SO SICK OF VODAFONE!

I recently signed up for a plan.. If i knew the reception and dropped calls would be this bad i would have never signed up to vodafail.. Afer waititng on hold for over 1 hr, i sent a couple of emails letting them know they have over charged me and only got a response back when i sent my final email letting them know i am thinking of changing providers. There response was that the bill was correct. Stupid me i paid the bill not wanting to get a bad credit rating from one little incident. I want what i pay for and that is SIMPLY: to make a call without having to call back after 2 mins because the line dropped out or even better to be able to make the inital call and it connects straight away and not tell me that the call has FAILED. We are NOT living in a third world country.

Mt Pleasant, 6153. Have been on a 2 year contract with a Nokia 6330, and actually, that was fine. Recently got a $450+ bill, so moved to a more expensive plan and got a new iPhone 3GS into the bargain. Since then, I've had constant dropped calls and people complaining that I'm breaking up or that they can't hear me. Incredibly frustrating when you're looking for a job and trying to talk to recruiting companies and potential employers. Thought it might have been a fault with my iPhone, but then I found this site.

I read in the news that Vodafail might be considering a class action against Vodafone. Please, oh please!

My husband and I have been long suffering Vodafone customers for over a year. We are counting down the months to our freedom! I have asked them to release us from the contract, but they refuse, showing me their wonderfully fake reception/coverage map. I have the same problems like all of you, dropped calls, messages being delayed, MMS going nowhere, NIL reception in the house. They are the worst company. The govt should have the power to fine them for breach of contract with customers.

I have been told by people making deliveries for me that they tried to contact me but were told my phone was turned off, when in fact I was waiting for their call. I've also been told by friends that when they tried to contact me my phone told them it was switched off. I'm just wondering how many jobs I have missed out on because of this lousy service.

I am a relatively new customer to Vodafone - four months on contract. At first I thought I was having problems with my handset: poor reception (often none at all!) call dropouts and very poor call quality. But then is poke with other vodafone customers and they mentioned similar problems and advised that Vodafone were upgrading their network. It's been 4 months of frustration and the network issues poor reception /call quality / dropouts) are still occurring! Very poor performance Vodafone!

I have been with Vodafone for approx. 6 months living in Sydney, the reception wasn't great and there where a lot of dropped calls. It was frustrating but bearable. I have now moved to Woody Point in QLD and the reception is beyond ridiculous!! NOTE THAT WOODY POINT IS NOT IN THE COUNTRY OR WHOOP WHOOP.... IT IS IN REDCLIFFE 30KM NORTH OF THE BRISBANE CBD IN A VERY BUILT UP AREA.

I have a problem with about 80% to 90% of calls. If I am lucky enough for a call to connect the reception frequently dropps out and I need to confirm what has been said.

Ofter my phone will show me 2-4 bars but when I try and call the phone simply won't connect AT ALL!! I then need to put the phone into flight mode, then back so it re-connects to the network and then it will connect.. but not always.

Often the phone shows as being connected to the network but no calls and sms come through. Callers go straight to voicemail.

At times SMS's won't send and I have to retry about 3-6 times for successful transmission.

I need my phone for business and this low level of service is just not acceptable. In my apartment the phone is barely usable.

FUNNY THOUGH I ALSO HAVE A VODAFONE MOBILE INTERNET STICK AND IT WORKS FINE!!???!!!! NOT A NETWORK ISSUE???????????????? DATA WORKS BUT VOICE DOESNT!!!!!!???????????? PLEASE EXPLAIN!!!

We used to own a vodafone store, and could see the writing on the wall.
i warned and warned that as a store we were riding a wave of disgruntled telstra customers and when that wave stopped Vodafone will be in trouble.
i could see it happening from reduced commisions to a degedation of customer care. we as a store were effectively destroyed. Now i am out and about and get tired of dropped calls , useless data. Try and check your emails or surf the web. The web page will just hang and hang. All telstra needed was some good plans and then telstra can ride the back of disgruntled vodafone customers.

6055 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is not real good for coverage at 28 Dec 2010 07:44:57 AM
We live just North of Maryborough and the reception here is very marginal. Sometimes we have one bar of reception outside the house in selected areas around the house, but nothing inside the house. Try to carry on a conversation and it's subject to poor quality reception and dropped calls. If it's raining, forget about it totally, there is no reception.

We ended up having to get a Virgin Mobile phone (which uses the Optus Network) just to receive calls at home. Even with the Virgin Mobile, the phone only works outside the house, so this is a real telecommunications black spot here.

However, on the plus side of things, we have five mobile phones with Vodafone and we are on the 365 day value bundle, so we only recharge once a year with $20 or $30 and we can ring each other for free using Vodafone minutes. We don't make that many outside calls and it's mainly for family contact that we have the Vodafone phones. We can still usually get text messages through at times when the reception comes on. The signal switches between about three towers as we are at the fringe reception of the three.

Has anyone ever heard of Ogmore? It is a small community around 17 km off the highway about two hours North of Rockhampton with a population of around 20 - 30 people. Funny thing is that the only decent mobile phone reception there is with Vodafone and my daughter's brand new phone works fantastically there, but it won't work at all here at home. Our Virgin Mobile phone on the Optus Network won't work at all at Ogmore and our friend's Telstra mobile is about as useful there as our Vodafone Mobile is here.

We'd be really happy with Vodafone if we had decent reception here. We usually deal with the store in Hervey Bay and find the staff to be friendly and polite.

Please Vodafone, put in another tower to cover this black spot and we'll be very happy.

In total I made over 12-13 phone calls to customer care in 3 days... Due to a high number of dropped calls I got to talk to a few operators. Their excuses ranged from something being wrong with my phone to their company merging and that I should understand this because I run a business!!!

Question is does my customer understand that they can't contact me because Vodafone is merging?!

Needless to say Vodafone is still direct debiting my account every month, at will!

Reasons for my frustration: Phone calls dropping, people complaining that they can't reach me, slow internet speed on my mobile broadband and endless wait on customer service. Once you do get through, you find your self talking to a person who apears not to care or not understand what you are talking about.

5971 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is No reception; no customer service. at 28 Dec 2010 07:04:26 AM
For nearly two years now I have suffered at the hands of Vodafone. I had been using Vodafone for a long time without too many problems, so I decided to get a new phone with them on a $29 cap contract (over 2 years), as the $29 caps had been doing me fine previously. Within a short couple of months of signing that contract Vodafone changed networks, and I was in dire straits. With the frustration of next-to-no reception and constant dropped calls, I feel that they were in breach of contract, as the contract I signed was for the previous network. I have attempted numerous times to sort out this problem. To cut a long story, the final straw was to be told that I could not contact the appropriate people by email, I had to phone them. They could not transfer me, I had to phone them! I tried to point out the irony: How can I phone them when I have no reception and/or the calls simply drop out? Their reply was, "Yes, I understand, but that is the only way we can help you." How much I loathe that "I understand"! I have now given up and am waiting for January 19 to finish the contract; it will be interesting to find out what their reaction is going to be when I demand that they unlock the phone because I am going elsewhere in the hope of receiving better customer service.

Signed up to a good deal on a 24 month contract. Was promised great reception at Hervey Bay QLD (populated tourist area) Dropped calls bad reception in 90% of Hervey Bay. Phone squealing in my ear with error. Phone disconnects all the time. Impossible to get through to customer service. Bad phone and the short of it is. I am tied into a 24 month plan I can't even use my phone at all. Most the time it wont even let me send a text from an area I was promised good reception. I defiantly checked the reception on there website before entering into the contract.

Vodafone coverage is so poor that they should be required to warn all potential purchasers that they will receive only minimal coverage and service with this carrier. To suggest that Vodafone offers a service that works - even in sight of Melbourne CBD - is misleading conduct. Trying to deal with them to end my prepaid contract was joke, made harder by the call dropouts as they tried to convince me to stay.

14 months into my contract with vodafone, I started having the usual problems with my Iphone (call dropouts, delayed sms and voicemail, no reception). I was hand balled to every department imaginable whenever I was able to get through (minimum wait 1 hour). This went on for over 8 months and after going through so much pain and visiting voda stores to apple stores to waiting on the phone, they asked me to turn my 3G off (what a joke). After calling them almost twice a week to complain, they finally gave in and terminated my contract. Vodafone, never again.

had vodafone for 4 years now, and without being silly i have to say there reception is dumb! i might as well stand on a hill and yell to my friends , because i can honestly get zero reception all the time , seriously , ok so to make a call or send a txt i have to go stand in the far corner of my kitchen holding my phone up toward the window, ive had missed calls from employers , dropped calls from potential employers , girlfriends , the amount of times ive heard,,"why do u allways hang up on me?" , or why do u never answer ur phone? , etc, rediculous! vodafone suck!!!!

I rely on my phone for business. Was with 3 and out of contract for 2 years, but never completely happy with their service in the country areas. Vodafone contacted me less than 2 months ago. Advised of merger with 3 and how they were able to provide better coverage. What crap! Now I struggle to get a signal in my own home. Now get call dropouts I never before encountered. After hours on phone to call centre was advised the towers would be upgraded as part of the National Upgrade, but no idea when. Vodafone is spending money like mad on advertising and sponsoring sporting events, sucking more people in - but doing nothing about fixing its service - only providing weak excuses. Went and signed back up with Telstra today!

5483 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is dropped calls & data transfer fails at 27 Dec 2010 10:24:32 PM
I thought at first that it is normal to have these issues. Although I tried to ring for support (which takes forever for them to even answer), no satisfaction. When I saw the NineMSN news mentioned about a possible class action against them & from friends who say to me that it is not normal to have such annoying mobile failure in their service, I've decided to join this then.

5482 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 27 Dec 2010 10:23:34 PM
This was the worst experience I've ever had.

I decided I wanted a new Iphone 4.
So I go to a store in elsternwick because I wanted to make sure that the plan I signed up for would include the bonus data as advertised. After I saw the representative use the website to place an internet order, I realise going to the store was a giant waste of time and I should have done it at home. I notice the guy enter my details twice, apparently a double deal they had going. I questioned him asking "I think doing that will order me 2 phones, I only want one", He assured me only one was getting ordered. I left the store, completely in doubt. So I call the Online Orders line, and after a 40 minute hold, get through. I ask to confirm that my order was for only 1 phone. Of course, it was for 2, and I had to go through the process of explaining to the online rep that it was the store rep's fault for stuffing it up.

The store rep told me it would take a maximum of 2 weeks for me to receive my iphone, 2 months later, I receive a card in the mail telling me it is ready to be picked up at Melbourne Airport. One lengthy roadtrip later, I am holding my Iphone.

When I turn it one, the Sim isn't recognized. So I attempt to call Customer service on my then current optus prepaid. 70 minutes later, I run out of credit and the call drops.

At this point I'd like to mention that ever customer service call followed the SAME LARA prompts/answers. What would you like to do? "Activate my SIM". Please provide your mobile number? "I don't have a mobile number because you haven't given me one". I'm sorry, please repeat that.
In the end, I just yelled CONNECT ME THROUGH TO AN OPERATOR until it eventually did.
And then the Operator would ask what my mobile number is, and all I could answer was "I don't know because you haven't given me one yet". Always greeted with stunned silence.

The next day, I go to a Vodafone store centre telling them of my problem. They let me use their phone to call customer service. After talking to lara, I finally get through to rep, only to have the call drop after I answered their initial "what is your name" question.

So I call back, after another 50 minutes on hold, the same thing happens.
I ask the store rep what is going on, He shrugs and says "They are having trouble with the phone lines, I should just try again later"

Optimistic, I go home, to look up the next nearest store to me. I make my way there and ask to use their phone to sort out this mess. Another 2 tries later, a total of 60 minutes on hold, and 2 dropped calls as soon as I was connected to a representative. Again, I ask the store assistants what is going wrong and they quite rudely tell me to go home and try it later.

The next day, I decided to buy more credit for my prepaid phone, hoping they had sorted their phone issues out. After half an hour on hold, and then being dropped as soon as I got through. I gave up for the rest of the day.

The next day (friday), I went to my parent's house (as they have a phone line - I didn't), and at 0930, nice and early, I call up tech support. This time (after 20 minutes on hold of course), I don't get dropped. And tell the representative what is happening. After a lengthy explanation that they haven't given me a mobile number yet and I need my SIM activated (which at this point I find out, isn't usually needed), I am told it will be operational in 20 minutes.

At 3pm, I call back, same deal, it will be ready in an hour.
At 4pm, I call back, again, it will be ready in half an hour (Support closed at 5pm).
At 4:30pm, I call back, and am on hold until 4:59, At which point, I am answered, and then hung up on due to closing time.

That monday, I go back to a store, and tell em my problem, and that they should ring up as a staff member to sort this problem out. (I was assuming they had some sort of priority line to skip the customer service queue - this is untrue). Eventually, I am told that my Credit check failed and that I would not be able to get an Iphone.

You mean this Iphone right here? - as I showed him what I was holding.
A mate of mine applied for the same plan + iphone, and was rejected on credit check (for some bizarre reason, his credit was fine).

So now I'm confused as to why I have been rejected, and yet still sent this iphone. I'm just about fed up and ready to leave (can you blame me?) - resolving to keep the iphone, unlock it, and go with a better telco, when the store rep rings up again, and this time tells me...

That my driver's licence number was input wrong.
He inputs it, and in 5 minutes, I'm connected.

It only took 2 months overdue, and a week of hassling to get my new iphone working and operational.
But now I get to experience the constant call dropouts, Data interruptions, crappy reception and horrible customer service Vodafone has to offer!

When my contract is up, NEVER AGAIN VODAFONE. NEVER AGAIN.
27 Dec 2010 10:32:06 PM: WOW!..thats just unbelievable
28 Dec 2010 12:00:15 AM: I really should have pushed for atleast 3 months free service or something, I think I was just ruined to resignation in the end :(

5341 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Bloody hopeless at 27 Dec 2010 09:41:36 PM
I have a litany of complaints about the service and the network (or lack there of)

1. I regularily get random call dropouts
2. I sometimes get "the number you have called has been disconected" Interesting considering that usually when I call again, I get through, or get a busy signal or get nothing at all. I have even called my own mobile from my work mobile and got that message.
3. Friends complain that they are unable to call me for days.
4. Often I am waiting for a connection after dialing a number, but when I look at the phone screen, the call has been terminated.

I know it is not my phone - I have swapped my SIM with my work blackberry and get the same issues. I swap it with my old Nokia, same issues.

I work for one of the major telcos, (not vodafone), and can confirm it is indeed a network issue. Probably overload from excess data traffic. ie.. The network has not been properly scaled up.

I thought I was going mad or there was just a problem with my own phone. I put up with this for about 2 months before finally deciding to call Vodafail. They actually allowed me to break my existing contract about 6 months too early without charge (what a miracle!) and get a free upgrade from my iPhone 3GS to an iPhone 4.

However, this did not solve the problem at all and I really started to think there must be a general problem for everyone. This was confirmed when I saw an article on smh.com.au (Sydney Morning Herald online) and I knew I was not alone and there were many other very unhappy customers suffering too.

Another further month has passed with all these extremely frustrating problems, and miraculously today (Monday 27th) it seems the problem (at least in my local area here) has finally been resolved! (yet to be fully confirmed though - but so far looks much better).

What a nightmare the past few months have been though! So many dropped calls, signal problems, texts and MMS messages taking ages to be delivered or received, terrible internet connections with constant dropouts etc etc.

Glad at least the problem seems to be over (around here anyway), but Vodafail needs to be held to account for such an horrific problem for so long! Bring on the Class Action!

Signed,

Very Angry Customer.

I have spent HOURS on the phone to Vodafone in the last 2 months about the amount of call dropouts and poor coverage with my iphone. Last Saturday, a fellow from Vodafone phoned me and said the problem is a network issue and Vodafone will let me out of the contract if that's what I want. I told him that's what I want. He said I had to phone the store where I bought the phone to organise the disconnection including the return of the iphone handset. I phoned the store and they said only Vodafone deal with this issue and I have to phone Vodafone back. Since then, I have spent HOURS on the phone to Vodafone, on hold yet again. The last I heard was last Monday when Vodafone said they would phone me back in 24 to 72 hours to arrange for my disconnection. That call didn't arrive until today. The phone rang twice. I answered it and as soon as I did, the phone dropped out. What a surprise... not. Then I got an SMS from Vodafone saying they have tried to call me and I didn't answer my phone so phone on 1555 for further queries about my complaint. I phoned 1555 and was on hold for 20 minutes. I hung up. I then phoned their 1300 number and was on hold for another 25 minutes. I hung up.

HOW PATHETIC VODAFONE. NOT ONLY IS THEIR NETWORK TOTAL CRAP... BUT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TOTALLY, TOTALLY NON-EXISTANT. I am totally, totally sick of Vadafone. And I am totally sick of being on hold to them trying to get my contract cancelled.

I SIGNED UP IN OCTOBER 2010 AND I AM SO OVER VODAFONE!!!

I am on a contract with vodafone or else i would have changed by now. I have had several reprimands, including written warnings for not answering my phone for calls from work..... Calls i have not gotten, calls, that when i stand next to my phone, and call from work, I get the "this call cannot be connected" or" the mobile phone you are calling is currently switched off".. even tho i am staring straight at my phone.. changed handsets and still have the same problems...
I would give anything to be out of the contract with vodafone as this is directly affecting my work life and is not acceptable....
I'm not even going to mention the lost texts and texts taking several days to be sent to someone..
27 Dec 2010 08:16:50 PM: And if anyone knows how to get out of the contract without the termination fees, please, PLEASE let me know!!

My Blackberry sits in SOS 90% of the time in suburbia, where other networks have full coverage. Ive been with vodafone for 6 years, but this past year has been hell! Dropped calls, no reception, missing important client calls, missing important family calls, calls going through to voicemail without the phone ringing. Intermittently dropping calls midway then sitting in SOS until I remove the battery pack. Im absolutely P****d off. Im glad I know now, every vodafone customer is having a hell of a time. Some sort of compensation is required. I will definitely be switching carriers as soon as my contract ends.

4719 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is at 27 Dec 2010 07:00:55 PM
Well, I started the contract with Vodafone when I was still living in Sydney, in January of 2009. I had heard from a family member that the (at that time) new Blackberry Storm phone was the best of the best, so I decided to look into getting one. I went to an outlet at the Bankstown Centro shopping facility, and I got one of the Storm phones, and at the same time opened an account with Vodafone. At the time of my receiving the phone, I asked the individual who was working at the outlet if I would be able to receive signals in all States and Territories of Australia, and he said yes. I asked him if he was positive, and he replied with another enthusiastic "Yes". So, I got the phone, and went on my way. I experienced my first dropped call later that afternoon. One of the main reasons for changing mobile services in the first place was because of dropped calls and low signal reception in various places immediately outside of the Sydney area, from the previous mobile service provider.

I had had the phone for less than one month when I had my first serious problem with it. Because it was under a 30-day replacement warranty, I took it to the outlet where I got it, told the people there that the phone wasn't working, and they told me that they didn't have any more of the particular model in the store at that time. I wasn't in a position to do anything more about it at that time, because I was getting ready to go overseas that next day. I left for my overseas destination the next day, and returned about 30 days later. I immediately returned to the outlet where I had gotten the phone, and was told that they had more of that particular model in the store then, but that the 30-day replacement warranty had expired. So, I asked them what my options were. They said that I could give them the phone, and they would send it out to their repair facility. I did this, and about two weeks later they contacted me and said that the phone was ready to be picked up. I immediately went to the outlet, and they told me that the unit had been replaced with a new one. I had high hopes. Well, this second phone almost immediately dropped calls and had very poor signal reception in numerous parts of the Sydney area, as well as other places in Australia where I took it. Also, it was about three months until this second phone developed a problem that rendered it unusable. I took it to the outlet, where it was the same as before: they said leave it here, we'll send it out, and you should have it back in about two weeks. Well, about three weeks later, I got a phone call from the outlet telling me that the phone was back. Again, I immediately went to the outlet to get the phone. I picked it up, and hadn't even gotten out of the shopping center when the phone dropped its first call. I turned around and walked back to the shop, told them about the problem, and they asked me if the battery was fully charged. I told them it was. They told me that because of the large amount of metal within the shopping center, that the signal strength was usually not very good there, and to take the phone outside the mall and try it again. I did, and the signal strength was better outside the mall. Well, shortly after all this, I moved to Tasmania. I came to Devonport on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry, and as soon as I arrived in Devonport I tried to use the phone, and I discovered almost no signal strength. I drove around Devonport trying to find a location where I had a better signal, but could find none. I then drove to Burnie, again with no better signal strength. I now refer back to the first part of this writing, where I had been told by the people who initially sold me this phone that it would work equally well in ANY State or Territory of Australia. Needless to say, it hardly worked at all in Tasmania. The only exception to this is that it appeared to work OK in Launceston, which is one of the larger towns in Tasmania.

I took the phone to China, Malaysia, and New Zealand with me on business trips, and it did operate satisfactorily in all three of these countries, as long as I was in large cities in those countries. It appeared that in rural areas, there was almost no signal strength, and this appeared to be the case in all three of the countries mentioned above.

The last thing I have to comment on is that every time I have tried to make a credit card payment on the phone account, the credit card is not accepted by the Vodafone credit card payment system.

I am absolutely NOT happy at all with either the service, the equipment, or the customer service from Vodafone. All in all, a very large disappointment.

4533 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Pathetic at 27 Dec 2010 06:22:37 PM
I was on Vodafone Prepaid until recently. When I signed up in October 2008, the network was terrific. Could not complain one bit - plus it was far cheaper than Telstra! I had coverage where and when I needed it, and that's what mattered to me.

Well, In about August of 2010, things started going downhill. First it was calls being broken up. Then dropped calls. Then I couldn't send SMS's. Slowly, it got worse and worse. It got to a point I couldn't use the Internet anymore at all, 24/7. However, my phone (Nokia 3120c) always assured me I had 3 or 4 (of 4) bars...

One day it took 20 minutes for a very important text to arrive, meaning I was over half an hour late for an important appointment.

I tried contacting Vodafone (mainly through their Twitter account), but they were no help. They simply denied there were issues. I looked at people mentioning them - almost everyone was having similar issues. Hah!

That was the last straw for me. I was over Vodafone. I did the only thing I could, and I switched to Telstra (along with getting a Nokia 6120c). I've been incredibly happy with them so far - I have reception EVERYWHERE, almost always have 7 (of 7) bars, call quality is great, SMS's arrive within seconds of being sent, and I can actually use the web, too! If I've had questions, their terrific Twitter support has been able to help me out.
The best thing about it is that their equivalent Prepaid option (I was on 365 day recharge with Voda, now on Telstra Prepaid Long Life) is exactly equivalent value for money, which is great. Plus, with the recent introduction of cheaper data packs, I can even tether my phone. It's great!!

I'd encourage everyone who has issues with Vodafone to consider another provider, especially if you're on prepaid or, more recently, can get out of your contract free.

Good luck!

I do snake catching in my spare time and my clients do not appreciate not being able to get hold of me. If I am the only snake catcher avaiable in my area and I cannot be contacted due to Vodafones dreadful call centre in India and even worse customer service, and should my client get bitten - I will hold them totally responsible.

I have been told that my suburb is 'the best in Australia for coverage', I have been offered a free extra simm card with free call diversion for one month, what use is that when I cant get coverage or have the dropped calls?

I do not accept the apology or the patronising statement of how good coverage is, I do not appreciate the dreadful English/communication skills of their support staff, nor do I accept how long I have to wait to speak to someone and then be transferred 4 times or even cut off! I have contacted the TIO and Vodafone have not offered a resolution yet, when I said I would see them in court, someone with poor English said 'Very good Madam but your suburb is the best in Australia'.

So Vodafone, you had better pray that my clients can get hold of me in an emergency or I will talk like a budgie to every newspaper I can think of and I will do so very loudly. I want out of my contract and I want out now!

I signed a 1 year contract in September this year. Ever since I had dropped calls, no reception, lost customers. They kept telling me they would have to check the reception with their own tests, then they said it was the sim card, they replaced the sim card, IT SEEMED WITH EVERY CALL THERE WAS A DIFFRENT EXCUSE AND A NEW DELAYING TACTIC, EVENTUALLY after many hours on hold and many calls and threats to take them to Consumer Affairs for false advertising (telling me I would have reception in my area) and charge them for my lost business, they AGREED to let me out of my contract at no charge. They gave me a cancellation number and I went straight away to Optus, I haven't had a problem since, EXCEPT I am still waiting for the return bag to send their phone back!! I have phoned again 3 times. So the saga isn't finished yet....
My advice is, keep calling! Ask for Cancellations department! Demand they let you out of your contract and threaten them with Consumer Affairs etc. And Don't give up, !!!

I get the problem with dropped calls, maybe once a week, but it's not super often, the more common fault I get is simply not being able to place a call full stop. Every few days I go to make a call, my phone dials but the call does not go through. If I wait a few minutes then usually I can get it to work but sometimes I have to wait till my phone connects to another signal tower. I'm with Reward Mobile who use the Vodaphone network can I still complain?

My wife and I entered into a 2 year contract with Vodafone some 15 months ago. We bought 2 Blackberry mobiles on a $69.00 p/m plan @ = $138.00 p/m. We checked the coverage maps for the area we were about to move to. Once moved, the only reception we got was "edge" or "SOS". Real helpful Vodafone!
Countless calls made to customer support took no less then 20 minutes to get through. Promises to get back to you - but no - you chase them!!!!!
I am not a racist but for God's sake, can I speak to someone in Australia instead of India??? We have issues with dropped calls (repeatedly), unable to use our internet browsing, delayed sms, unable to send push email. What are we paying for? Vodafone is nothing less than a disgrace. Customer Support state they can't guarantee the accuracy of the coverage maps. What a cop out. This is misleading. If the map says there is coverage that is exactly what you should get.

Dropped calls all the time. Distortion when I can manage to make a call. Sometimes I can't even make outgoing calls and there's no dialtone when I call. Internet over 3G on my iPhone is slow to the point of non-existant, sometimes even in the Brisbane CBD when I have full bars.

With the froadband the sinal is poor and the internet keeps on disconnecting so I can't finish my as the modem refuses to connect till the next and complainig has had no results I am so frustrated.

3948 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Dropped calls, no data at 27 Dec 2010 04:58:57 PM
Quite a few months back I called vodafone to to them about my lack of reception and ability to use my data allowance. I was told to simply reset the Internet on my phone and it would fit it. Now it all makes sense. At first I honestly thought it was only my phone. In places where I was once able to use my Internet and send messages, I now cannot. I have to walk outside into my street in order to make phone calls and use my Internet. In times when I need to use important sites such as my Internet banking, again, I now cannot. The problem has only recently gotten worse as not even will my data work. This has angered me deeply as I pay top dollar for my plan and what infuriates me the most is the fact that my bills have heavily increased due to having to communicate via phone all the time rather than via the Internet. My phone bills are double what they should be and I am ready to cut off my plan. Getting through to speaking to an actual person at vodafone is a long and frustrating process, that is of course, when my phone does not drop out. Compensation should be given for such appalling service by this comapany. If my phone actually allows me to post this message, I will be utterly shocked.

Been with Vodafone for many years- big mistake. Countless letters were ignored when I had three faulty phones which were replacements. Voda finally responded five months later and gave me another phone.
Endless number of dropped calls - no reception in busy areas - 3G network hardly has coverage - Im sick and tired of having my complaints fall upon deaf ears!

I was a 15 year customer of Vodafone and was, up until the last few years, a happy customer. Then they started by forcing me to accept emailed bills (I need Hardcopy bills for tax purposes) which meant they shifted a small but not inconsiderable cost upon me. Then I started to notice an increase in dropped calls, poor reception, and delayed delivery of SMS and voicemails. Needless to say I paid my way out of my latest contract and moved to Telstra. Telstra have been fantastic: cheaper, far far better coverage, and immediate delivery of voicemails. I won't be returning to Vodafone, and intend to transfer my wife's mobile over to Telstra ASAP.

Signed a 2 year contract in Nov 2009 and have had nothing but problems since. 2 software reloads and a new handset have made no difference. Call dropouts and no reception in places like Batemans Bay and Narooma. Add to tath the terrible assistance you get when you ring them, and Vodaphone is simply a joke.

My plan was to sit it out til Nov 2012 when my contract would be up. However with this website, maybe something can be done to show Vodaphone they can't offer a service that doesn't actually exist.

The fact they came out on the news tonight and apologised for the bad service shows they know something is wrong.

Looing forward to seeing what happens from here.................

I have had no 3G coverage for about 3 weeks now in Gungahlin area and all over Canberra.. I thought it was my phone. I contacted Vodafone and waited 90mins for me to speak to someone.. Just to tell me how to switch 3G off my phone and I could make and receive calls. With this function now switched off! I have unlimited and rely on this phone for work and personal calls.. I visited a local vodafail store on christmas eve wanting to cancel my account and they said that they could not process this.. That I had to call disconnections and I said..what another 90 min wait on the phone!! I am so over it.... also my mobile broadband is due to expire next month and I am disconnecting that too.... this is flamin' ridiculous! The sales person at Vodafone also said the 3G failure was widespread over Canberra and they have had no response to their emails to the company! Go figure...

3664 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Lost a 12 year customer! at 27 Dec 2010 04:27:38 PM
I have been with Vodafone since 1998.

I have been pretty happy (obviously).

Since I signed my last contract in June 2008 I have had non-stop issues with Vodafone.

First it was billing issues, and now it is constant dropped calls and poor reception.

I have been living at my current address for 5 years and had no issues, in the last month or more I have had next to no reception, and on some days I cannot even get ANY reception.

I'm also so F'in sick of Lara - "she" needs to be taken out back and put to sleep! I'm sure the boffins and marketing "gurus" at Vodafone think she "humanises" the customer service experience.... I'd prefer to have to go 10 menus deep selecting from up to nine numbers at each level than listen to her false "chirpy, friendly, ever so (NOT) helpful "voice"".

I had Christmas SMS messages I sent to friends that were received on the 27th!!! EXPRESS POST letters would get there quicker!!!

Considering their network cannot handle the voice/data needs of existing customers Vodafone should be BANNED from acquiring new customers until they can properly provide for their existing users.
27 Dec 2010 04:29:37 PM: Oppps - that was meant to be June 2009...

I cannot wait until June 2011 comes round... I will take much pleasure in informing Vodafone I will never be a customer of theirs again!!
27 Dec 2010 04:32:56 PM: Just signed up for the lawsuit... I am usually against such trawling for lawyers fees, but Vodafone deserve it, I'll give the lawyers 100 percent of any damages they win - just on the principle of showing Vodafone they suck sweaty, smell, hairy nuts

I thought I had imagined the service had gotten so much worse after the 3/Vodafone merge - I couldnt understand how merging 2 phone companies would make things worse rather than better. Same problems - call dropouts, terrible phone reception, delayed voicemails but ALSO roaming charges. Every month the Iphones are getting hit with internet roaming charges on top of the cap amounts - sick of it

What a mess - dropped calls - slow conection - no customer service. i thought the problem was with my iphone3g and went to a vodafone store to upgrade to an iphone 4. I was told that even though they had iphone 4's in stock i could not get one because i was an exisisting customer. I was told to go home and try online only to find that they had none in stock on line and it takes 4-6 weeks to be delivered to my home. Thankfully my contract runs out in 3 weeks. NEVER AGAIN..

3085 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Embarrassingly so at 27 Dec 2010 03:25:53 PM
I signed up to Vodafone because it used to be the least expensive and most widely used mobile service provider. Now, I experience dropped calls multiple times daily and strange intermittent network interruptions in areas wherein previously I had full coverage (full bars on my phone). I can stand still in one spot and watch the number of bars of reception rise and fall dramatically on my phone in areas where I'd never had a problem before. And such problems began for me right about the time that Vodafone merged with 3 Mobile. And what's most infuriating is that Vodafone's customer service is impossible to reach! The number of voice prompts one must go through on the automated system just to reach a real human is excessive, and even worse is the fact that wait times to speak with said human customer service agents have been up to 1.5 hours! I went to the Vodafone shop where I bought my phone and even the staff there told me "Mate, I once waited on hold for two hours when I had to call on the behalf of a customer." Now that's just embarrassing! Australia is a Developed Country so how can this be the case with one of its major mobile service providers?!
