Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

2921 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is nobody happy with voda in jindabyne at 27 Dec 2010 02:56:50 PM
lots of call dropouts in the jindabyne area over winter 2008 and 2009 ski seasons, but you couldn't even get on to customer service without your call droping out. I was told system is being upgraded back in 2009. looks like its still the same after years of complaining.....I got a free $49 recharge after i called the ombudsman, after spending $150+ on call dropouts over winter....

don't beleave the system is being upgraded, it never will.....still lots of call dropouts in jindabyne.

2918 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Frustrating at 27 Dec 2010 02:56:25 PM
I have been a vodafone customer for more than 10 years originally prepaid switched to a post paid plan and that was fine too took a wireless broadband contract as unable to get other internet services at my new address all worked fine for the first couple of months then slowly over the last few months the reception and signal problems have started both of these devices run on the same network however at times I can have 3g coverage on my internet and my phone has dropped to SOS other times my phone will have full 3g coverage and I can't connect the internet. That's fine I understand that it's wireless service and at times the reception will be unstable but it is getting worse and happening more frequently. My biggest problem is with the customer service had a problem with my most recent bill and spent 4 1/2 hours on hold before someone answered my call, on the positive side the person I spoke with was polite and has hopefully fixed the billing issue but I won't know until I get my next bill!

2917 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Pathetic!!! at 27 Dec 2010 02:55:43 PM
I have been on vodafone contract for clost to 8 Years. Every 2 years for some reason i give them another chance and resign. my last signing was the last straw, I WILL NOT be returning once my contract is up. i have made years of constant ongoing complaints over the usual call drop outs, slow data transfer and poor reception. i have had little in the way of help from vodafone other than the usual hours of waiting on hold. The last straw was my last re-sign up, i w3as contacted by Vodafone Loyalty Team, they offered me a free phone, any one i chose if i re-signed. i told them i wanted an Iphone4, they said i could get one but they would nt be released until november-december. so i took the sony X10i, 3 yes 3 days later vodafone released the Iphone4! Firstly i have poot up with years of poor service and now i have been blatently LIED to!! Very Dissapointed!!!!!

2913 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is epic fail at 27 Dec 2010 02:54:42 PM
poor network coverage, delayed text and voice mail messages, poor customer service in stores in regard to assistance with repair work or claims, poor attitude to long term customers.
I have been with vodafone for the best part of ten years, where they used to be competitive and try to maintain present customers with special offers and deals, now they make no effort at all.
In that time also the network coverage has never improved in the slightest.
Way to lose customers vodafone!!!! soon you'll be just like telstra, but at least telstra have their network coverage better sorted than you.

2911 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is double charging for txt at 27 Dec 2010 02:54:33 PM
My family has four phones with vodafone, and since 3 has been sharing the receptor towers we have often not got any service at all. Messages and calls don't get through to our phones (randomly of course), but my biggest problem is the double charging for text messages. This problem has been going on for a couple of years even though the vodafone customer service people say it cannot be possible. I can't send the same text to the same person twice within a second of each other. I wish they could explain the double up and look into the problem, but they insist it is not a problem on their part.

2910 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Port Macquarie Service Dreadful at 27 Dec 2010 02:54:17 PM
I have a iPhone 3GS from Vodaphone which I haven't used for months (despite paying $119 per month for unlimited calls/text). The service is almost non-existant at my home/office which is only 2.5kms from the Port Macquarie CBD. Vodaphone did refund me 3 months worth of fees at the beginning of this year due to the poor service, but that hasn't helped with the rest of the fees I have had to pay. Thank God for the Telstra Next-G network which works a treat with my iPhone 4.

2907 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL USLESS A*HOLES at 27 Dec 2010 02:54:02 PM
I signed up with vodafone almost 2 years ago now on an unlimitied cap costing me $125 a month including phone insurance as I had got the new Iphone at the time.
Since being with them I have had next to no service coverage in urban areas even with towers near by, next to no internet coverage, I damaged my screen on my iphone and wanted to get it fixed, and was told by vodaphone staff that they couldnt help me because I had signed up with Vodafone at Myer stores and that I had to go back to them, even though Vodafone at Myer had since all been closed down and I told them this and they said they could not help me so I have had a smashed phone for almost a year now and still continue to pay insurance for my phone that they will not fix and constant no service TO EVEN USE MY PHONE.
It is the most abysmal service I have ever received from any company and even worse customer service and phone assistance. I want out of this contract 100% but no one in store or over the phone has been willing to help me unless i pay them obscene amounts of money to break my contract even though I can not even USE there service anyway. this has been the most asoloutley ridiculous ordeal of my life and if anyone can help me get out of this crap and get my money back for this waste of time by all means let me know

I'm not able to dial out, send messages, drop calls or even reach customer service. I am so sick of not being able to rely on a dependable phone provider that links me to my clients. This is affecting my business on a daily basis for the last 3 months. What is going on??? I know I'm not alone as I talk to some other Vodafone clients who are having the same problems. I thought it was my handset, but I'm sure is the crappuy network. obi75syd@gmail.com

The caps are good, but the service & internet & all the rest sux. Absolutely bad service - people service. I walked into a shop, and asked for a particular phone, the guy looked at me stupid. They just dont have uniformed customer service. And I agree with the last post - the web site is a gamble if it works or not. Customer service sux.

I have been trying all morning to recharge my pre-paid account via my credit card pre set up. It keeps telling me to end the call and try again. I desperatley needed to recharge and thus the reason for having my credit card linked for conveneance. Then resorted to wait on hold to speak with Customer service. Waited 30mins then call dropped out. Purchased recharge credit from store, $29.00 flexi cap. Went to send a txt and then was told i had insufficient credit. WTFF!! GRRRRRRRRR

2827 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is ABSOLUTE CRAP at 27 Dec 2010 02:36:47 PM
I signed up to a Vodafone Contract in JULY 2009 with the purchase of an iPhone 3GS. In the first week I noticed that I did have better reception at home the 3, which is the bottom of the pit of all telco's. Over the months I noticed a slow decrease in the quality of reception, and now in DECEMBER 2010, I can't get any reception on my Mobile Phone at home. Having called Vodafone on many occassions, the only solution they have is to move around or go elsewhere where there is reception. What Kind of service is this when I am paying them $69.00 pre month on a Fixed Term Contract and can't receive or make calls at home. Add to this the Thousands of call dropouts, SMS messages which take up to 8 hours to get to the recipient, and extremely poor coverage, VODAFONE is not worth slagging on.
I was travelling in Austria in March 2010, and bought a Pre-paid card, with one of their cheapest networks, and never had less than 4 bars of reception, even inside buildings, in tunnels and up in the mountains. This was absolutely incredible, I even had semi reception when I travelled into Slovakia and Hungary. This is what you call service, you get exactly what you pay for. Australian companies are just focusing on making money and providing crap services. This is a problem across the board, Telco's, Gas, Electricity, and whatever other utility service is available. What about the Customer Service Call Centres in India, This is an absolute joke, and invasion of privacy when you have to confirm private information to someone in another country.
Australia is no longer the lucky country, well maybe for the money hungry corporations, which are mainly overseas owned.
Everybody should band together and SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH", Let's get these companies, especially VODACRAP to lift their game, and the best way to do this is by leaving them, the more customers they lose the better. The government is not doing anything to protect people against getting ripped off by these companies, the Governemnt doesn't give a shit, Politicians have their phones paid by the Tax Payer anyway, so they are never concerned.
I have sent a scathing complaint to VODAFONE about my problems, both in writing and over the internet, and if they don't meet my demands, I will just drop the contract, and stop paying them. They can try and recover money from me, and at the same time I will be fighting to recover money from them. Oh yeah, I have also sent one to A Current Affair.....SPREAD THE WORD......
30 Dec 2010 07:25:05 PM: Well somebody that sees this the sam way i do.. I travell overseas a lot and you are right about the telcos overseas, great service and cheap too, not like these theiving pricks here. Dont worry the big wheel will turn on Vodacrap, they will loose customers, and as dumb as they are, will ask why ??? Go figure..

2818 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is in need of a customer service overhaul. at 27 Dec 2010 02:34:11 PM
I'll be honest, I have been with Vodafone for nearly 24 months and haven't had any serious problems. Sure, my calls drop out, but I just call back. Sure, internet can be slow etc, but I accept most of these things as part of life. But in November Vodafone started calling me to advise I was within 3 months of the end of my contract and could renew early to get a new handset, get a better plan etc. This sounded like a good idea as I could get a new phone to give to my eldest daughter for Christmas, so I started looking at handsets and checking out plans, then I started going into the store to talk to people, get a feel for the handsets and find out the ins and outs of renewing my contract. Everything was rosy, and I was quite a satisfied, happy customer. Early into December I had decided on a handset, and was assured it was readily available (no, not an iPhone) and there would be no problem coming in to get it anytime. I went in every week leading up to Christmas, same story, just re-sign for 24months, get the phone, no worries. So, I went in on Tuesday 21st December to be told that I could not get that handset anymore, until after Christmas. Not because they were out of stock (I had been checking this), but because Vodafone Head Office had made a decision 2 days earlier to only sell these handsets outright, not to use them for renewing contracts. I WAS ANGRY!!!! So, this is where the problems started. I then attempted calling, but this was a ridiculous waste of my time, so I tried using email, but had to try 3 times to work out the way to actually get it through (as you all pprobably know, the "contact us" email is a nightmare of filling out numbers, codes and passwords). Its a STOOPID system! I still haven't heard back, and to be fair it is Christmas time, so I expect and accept they are busy and on holidays, but the system is STILL STOOPID!! Anyway, now the contract I was going to get this phone on has been pulled, and it is now $10/month dearer PLUS $5/month handset cost! What a RORT!! So, not only did I not get the handset for Christmas as I had been assured for weeks that I could, the contract has gone up $10, the handset now costs $5 on this more expensive contract, and I cannot contact anyone to get some resolution! Vodafone has until February to turn me around and show me they care and will make this right, or it will simply be back to Optus for me.

I changed over from Optus to Vodaphone about a week ago. In just a week, I have experienced so many problems. Very poor reception on the train and slow data connection. In fact, the internet connection is so bad, it cuts in and out all the time. I am seriously thinking of switching back to Optus or to another network.

I tried calling the customer service line and was literally placed on hold for 2 hours before a man with a heavy Indian accent finally tried to come to my assistance, but I had no idea what he was going on about!

2777 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 27 Dec 2010 02:21:57 PM
My partener has an iphone 4 though vodafone. When I ordered the phone online for him I requested insurance as it just seemed like the smart thing to do. Well the order got changed as a customer service representive contacted my partener and re-did the order as he could get it sent out faster this order was suppose to be exactly the same as the other order with insurance included. So that was all fine and good he got the his iphone then about 2 weeks later my partner was mugged while walking home from the train station. A police report was filed etc the next day I called vodafone to find about the insurance and having the phone replaced. Turns out who ever re-did the order place the phone on a business plan which means it can't have insurance. The basically told my partner well we're not going to replace your phone you've just started a 24 month contract and now you will have no phone. Well we complained after many phone calls they offered my partner to pay for half the iphone ($500) and they would give us a new one. We thought that wasn't good enough so we contacted the TIO 3 or 4 days later they contacted my partener offered to give him the phone but he still had to pay the insurance premium ($300) and they would change the plan to a personal plan with insurance. From when he got mugged to getting a new phone took 3 weeks. The phone seems not to have too many problems with dropping out probabley because we live very close to perth but we had one day where my partener had no service for nearly 2 hours meaning he missed a call from his work telling him not to come in for that day and he travelled 1/2 into the city to find out he wasn't needed. Absolutely ridiculous. I won't be getting any services through vodafone and I feel terrible that I suggested my partener sign up to vodafone because it seemed like they had the best plan.

2753 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Shit Service at 27 Dec 2010 02:17:24 PM
Firstly, I would like to bring to attention people that Vodafone has the worst reception in almost all areas of Melbourne, resulting in calls dropping out and generally wasting credit recalling or redialling. Also when trying to make aq call, the phone just does nothing for a few minutes then hangs up repeatedly. Then there is the issue with customer service which has been outsource to a call centre in INDIA!!! ffs i cant speak to somebody who speaks english just to maintain my account. I am so pissed off at the amount of credit and time wasted by myself just to make a simple call.

I moved from Optus to Vodafone about 2 months ago and we were promised that we would have have complete coverage in our area. No to little access to internet, to make a phone call is unbearable. I have had to sign up with optus again on a $5 plan in case of an emergency as I have a new born and can not rely on vodafone and there minimum 40 minute wait for no customer service or help. 2705 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Completely Unacceptable Network Reliability at 27 Dec 2010 02:05:25 PM
I transferred from 3 AUST 3 weeks ago as my Blackberry Bold finally died due to over use! I wanted the Blackberry Torch and had to get it on Vodafone... whom I thought had a good reputation. Vodafone did have a good reputation locally several years ago... and internationally.

Well I am now regretting changing to Vodafone, and never thought I'd miss 3 AUST. We all know what 3 AUST was like when they commenced in AUS - but now their customer service, pricing and network coverage cannot even be compared to Vodafone!

My new Blackberry has Vodafone firmware (naturally) and this leaves a lot to be desired! The handset's reception is terrible - fluctuates and I cannot even access Blackberry services half the time! Calls drop out, and I don't receive messages, emails, facebook notifications in a timely manner. I get nothing, then I receive everything at once!

Being a passionate Blackberry user - I am confident it is not the handset, and comparing my 3 AUST service to the level of service provided by Vodafone I know it is the network! Very disappointing Vodafone.

2688 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Big fail at 27 Dec 2010 01:59:56 PM
Mobile broadband reception is terrible in Clayton, a fairly close Melbourne suburb. About half the time I can't connect at all, sometimes for 24 hours or more. Very convenient when you have important stuff to take care of.

Good thing I signed up for month-to-month mobile broadband even though the sales reps repeatedly tried to talk me into a fixed term contract. One sales rep in particular was very rude and upon my insisting on something, blurted "Are you serious?". Yes, I am. If you're not happy working in customer service, get a different job.

The sames sales reps kept losing my bank statements and other documents I provided, so I had to go back twice to get everything to them. Each time I went there, they again tried to force me into a fixed term contract. I suspect they pretend to lose your stuff just to get you back in and sell the contract to you.

2687 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Disgusting & Frustrating at 27 Dec 2010 01:59:49 PM
Well I had always been 110% for vodafone because of other peoples reviews and oppinions but in the last year or so I have had problems with sending messages, calling (making calls and recieving), coverage, internet, scams and random messages from vodafone saying that they hope I stay with my prepaid connection. When sending messages itll sometimes send 4 of the same messages to the same person, or itll delay and my friends/family wont get the message for a few hours or days later. Calling, itll cut out or get no coverage or people will try call me and it wont connect not to mention people will tell me they tried to call me and Id have not one missed call. Like seriously, far out! Too bad I guess if it was an important call or someone in my family DIED! Ill be randomly fiddling with my phone and the coverage will cut out completely, no bars, no nothing. When trying to go on the internet on my phone it wont work from time to time with no explanation not to mention when I tried to buy a song off the internet it wouldnt work or if it did work it would literally take all of my credit. I get random message that they would think are curteous but somehow come across a bit rude saying "We hope you stay with your prepaid connection" or some other crap. I rang the company to discuss these problems about multiple messages and etc and they went through this long speal that it was a problem with my phone even though I told them numerous times, ITS A NEW PHONE! Its frustrating and disgusting, especially considering when we ring up to complain and get someone in ANOTHER COUNTRY like seriously, dont they have enough money to EMPLOY AUSTRALIAN (ENGLISH SPEAKING) Customer Representives. If the inconveniences continue Ill be moving to Optus or another company who know what Customer satisfaction and Customer Service really is! Grrr - Its about time someone stood up.

2686 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is horrible at 27 Dec 2010 01:59:48 PM
we subscribed to vodafone prepaid broadband several months ago. i thought the problem which we faced on an ever-repeating fashion (can't connect, too slow speeds, constant drop outs) were based on the fact that we may live in a shadow or too far away from some critical point or that im too short or something but it was sort of relieving that everyone else cops this rubbish service too.

i quickly learnt that there was no point phoning 'we're here for you' vodafone because they dont answer their phone or so it seems and when youre on a mobile phone one gets pretty jack of waiting for noone to answer so one is again left to fend for oneself (on one occasion a few weekends ago i was on a mobile phone (not vodafone thankfully_ for nearly one hour but again gave up. the only thing i learnt about the extraordinarily poor service offered by try to get information out of vodafone (by phone, website and kiosks about town) is that when the little blue light is on my dongle (which is unfortunately quite often)that there is no service.

i not sure if the original message was sent.. ironically coverage dropped out just as i pressed 'Share your pain'

Out of the two year contract of hell now, thankfully.
Had Vodafone mobile braodband. Hah what a joke.
Whenever it rained - no reception. Whenever the wind was wrong -no reception.
Constant drop outs. Constant restarts.
Totally NO CUSTOMER SERVICE either online, by phone or from the brain dead pre-pubescent staff at Frankston.
Then they had the temerity to try to make me renew.
On top of which the so called plan was always overcharged. A disgrace which the ACCC should investigate.
Keep sponsoring the Aussie Cricket team - they are just as bad! How appropriate!

I have had nothing but trouble with vodafone, I have my own business which relies on customers calling me and on many occassions I have been in the middle of a conversation with a new customer and have been cut off, which means I have lost all sales and future sales and service contracts with these customers. I think Vodafone should be held responsible as they are a large company and make all the promises to its customers of providing a good service, but to me it is very poor service, and I'm sure many others will agree!!! Both prepaid phone [nearly 10yrs] and broadband [1 year]- actual coverage doesn't meet advertised coverage, always poor connection if any at all on both with frequent drop outs, customer service near impossible to contact; when I do after always 30mins wait, record 1h 24mins,Too many times I have been fobbed off and lied to, made promises that are not kept, escalated level Support has not rang back at all yet alone within 48h or 72h promised, Have over 1000 txt in credit but cannot send text at all with error message when a/c balance low [Problem 4 mths],missed calls not registering, incoming calls not ringing, get to listen to other peoples calls when It rings me for no reason.Frequently bb speed less than 10kbs if at all, software malfunctions and crashes, as does the modem, and both frequently have to be deleted and reinstalled. A/c notifications by SMS ceased arriving, and V says I cancelled them[ more Bull]
By all reports from IT people I have spoken to, the Vodabone-of-contention is massively overcrowded, and continues to take on more and more customers without buying more airwave space.
over and over operators reply to these problems with 'that must be inconvenient' and I have tried to explain to them that having to put up with what is proven to be bare-faced lies is not inconvenient, its dishonest, rude, insulting and abusive.

Has anyone noticed that the big doozy fibs occur always after your pleasant and genuinely trying operator consults with a supervisor? If the supervisor requires their staff to lie, are not their lies corporately generated?
Might that not alone indicate that Vodafraud is not a fit and proper organisation to hold a frequency band license for telecoms in this country, It should be cancelled and the bandwidth given over to an organisation that manages its service provision, customer support, even its marketing, with a level of integrity that matches its Spin.
I invite the responsible Minister Sen Conroy and his Dept. to stop sitting on their hands, and subject this Telcon to a blowtorch.

Purchased a new Nokia N8, only to find the phone was faulty. Took it back to the store to get a replacement phone, Did that and got another nokia N8. Handset was faulty again. Called cutomer service about getting another handset as i don't want another nokia N8. First time i was on hold for 2 and a half hours, to then have the operator tell me I'M lucky that they answered my phone call. Second time calling was on hold for 1 hour and 45 mins, only to be told that if i wanted to cancel my contract that i have had for 4 days i would need to pay the full contract outright of $1080. Vodafone customer service is ridiculous.

I have been a Vodafone client for 10yrs and have only experienced real issues with coverage for the last year... It doesn't matter what area I am in, my phone barely has any service! I have also had countless problems with being overcharged on my accounts and appaling customer service. I will see out my contract and then take my business to Optus.

2643 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is disgusting service and technical support at 27 Dec 2010 01:52:19 PM
Getting ready to travel to Europe and went into the VODAFONE stone in the QVB where I asked for my iPhone 3 to be unlocked so I could use a prepaid European sim card. I was assured it would be cheaper to unlock my sim card to INTERNATIONAL roamer. They used quite clever sales terms like 'only pay $1.50 for the 1st minute, and then standard call charges after that'. What that little PR*&K didn't tell me was that it was INTERNAL STANDARD CALL CHARGES which was RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE.
After I expressed that i didn't want this product, HIS CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING [if any] went out the window as I was quickly dismissed and ushered out of the store with a website . Followed the instructions on vodafone.com.au/unlock with no success. 4 days later (day before my trip), I've been transfer to about 4 different departments and been on the phone for the past 52 minutes [oh yes im keeping track] with no solution in sight.

This is just a recent issue after 2 years of drop outs, delayed voicemail - SMS's and MMS', no service (standing near the VODAFONE CORPORATE OFFICES) rude and outrageous customer service (who tells a customer to shut up? THANKS QVB VODAFONE STORE!)

If anyone could tell me how and what terminology to use to exit my contract i would greatful.

27 Dec 2010 02:02:24 PM: Happened to me last July, Signed up and the phone bill went from the average $ 50.- cap to $ 450.- despite hardly using the mobile overseas. Vodafone was ok. They credited most of the amount in dispute. Actually, the reception and Network coverage was better overseas than what it is here near a Vodafone tower :-)

2640 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Darwin Award! at 27 Dec 2010 01:51:42 PM
Vodafone guaranteed me unlimited free calls to another vodafone number of my choice. After signing up with them they assured me that the vodafone "best mate" free calls were active on my account to the number which i had chosen. Because I am a diligent person I repeatedly tried to check up on my account balance but the service, which is guaranteed in the contract, was unavailable for days on end. When i finally got to check my account i found that my balance was in the RED! This was because they did not activate the best mate properly. This problem happened repeatedly for the next 3 months. Everytime I called customer service I spoke to someone from overseas who tried to convince me that I would have to pay for the calls which in my contract were specified as free. The ridiculous attempts by vodafone customer service to directly deny the rights and remedies granted to consumers by the Trade Practices Act is something which needs to be addressed by the ACCC. To anyone who knows that voda has ripped them off and you are having trouble with customer service state to them that to deny your right to refund is a direct breach of section 53(g) of the Trade Practices Act. Vodafone makes money of a lot of these supposed 'mistakes' in your bill, processing of information, call drop outs, and misinformation provided by its customer service call centres. It is my suspicion that vodafone management is aware that these 'mistakes' make them money and they implement systems and policies which do not attempt to rectify these mistakes and make it difficult for customers to seek refunds.

Perhaps a new idea for Adam Brimo: VodaLeaks! Where employees on the inside of vodafone can speak out about any unethical practices which they are aware of within the organisation!

Call drop outs, no reception, sporadic connection to internet. Can't wait to switch to another telco ... I keep getting told by customer service reps that they are merging with the 3 network and coverage will improve. This is after waiting for nearly 2 hours on the phone. I am regretting the day that i let them con me into renewing my contract with the lure of a free handset. As soon as I did, the problems started. And the Nokia phone they sent me is not the one i was promised!

Well My partner and I have two services with Vodafone. we have had them for almost a year now. We moved down to melbourne recently and (almost 3 months ago) and the service drops out, no coverage and I tried contacting the Service center on different occassions but couldnt wait on the line for longer than half an hour and still not get through. I however got through to them once after 3 hours of atempts and the reason I was so persistant was because my partners handset got stolen. I tried 4 times and waited different times, the successful one was for 48 minutes. By then , I was so frustrated I couldnt even complain about my the network connection. Look i love the rates Vodafone offer but since moving down to Victoria I just am very frustrated with the signal and their customer service.

Ive been with vodafone since may 2010 i regret switching from optus to vodafone because:
- Poor customer service
- Long wait to get through to Customer Care
- Calls Drop Out
- Messages delayed (sending & receiving)
- UNCLEAR charges!!

I was sent out a bill for 90 dollars for the month of may paid the bill on time than my service was disconnected in November as 40 dollars was apparently overdue.. Not knowing what this 40 dollars was for i called customer care (waited 3 hours to get through to someone) and i was informed that someone had mistakenly paid 40 dollars on my account and that they sent me a bill for the wrong amount and that they had transferred the 40 dollars to the person who "accidentally" made the payment on my bill.. But i was not notified of this until i contacted them in regards to my service been cut off which was 6 months later!! NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! how can someone "accidentally" make a payment on my bill when i have my own account number and personal details and security code!!

THANKS FOR THE THIRD WORLD COUNTRY SERVICE.. CANT WAIT TILL MY CONTRACT IS FINISHED SO THAT I DONT HAVE TO DEAL WITH VODAFONE EVER AGAIN..

I have been a customer of Vodafone for 10 years PLUS, always payed my bills within a respectable time bracket and never really had any issues until now. I have just discovered that my latest contract of 24 months has mysteriously gained another 3 months on top of the 24 months. I have gone into their stores and repeatedly asked for some assistance, but I do not receieve any calls etc...NOTHING. (Trying to get onto a customer service rep is a nightmare too) As far as im concerned, this is ILLEGAL and I will be trying to take this further! I too suffer from POOR reception and can only stand in one part of my home to make and/or receieve calls..Vodafone, ARE YOU SERIOUS???

Texts are extremely slow to be received by someone else also on a Vodafone network!
They only appear a few hours later or the next day!

I used to be able to talk to customer service within Australia and not have to wait that long.
Its the longest wait in the world to talk to someone that sounds like they are in India or China!
Can't understand a word they are saying with their thick accent or would have to use simple terms and/or words to explain the issue or problem.

The call reception is often terrible or the calls drop out so more money is wasted trying to reconnect . Have been unable to make calls at inportant times due to an overloaded network ,. also God help you if you need to call the call centre , the automated service will drive you crazy and after a about half hour in a call quew the call then usually drops out so you have to start all over again.

2522 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is No signal in my street at 27 Dec 2010 01:23:13 PM
Vodafone map shows full signal strength in my street (Chapell Hill, Brisbane) but there is no signal at all. Vodafone Technicians acknowledge this and say the map is just a guide, and that sales staff don't have access to actual coverage maps. I sent my USB modem back and they cancelled my contract however each month I get a threatening notice saying I haven't returned the modem, and I owe them money. Each time I've phone them and they finally acknowledge I have sent the modem back and I owe nothing. When I asked for an apology and a letter or email acknowledging receipt of the modem and confirming my contract is dead and I don't owe them any money, they refused both requests. Great customer service!

My understanding of a contract is that both parties have obligations. Your obligation is to pay the account when its due, and theirs is to provide a service. If you're paying and they're not providing the service you signed up for, they've broken the contract - go straight to TIO.
27 Dec 2010 01:39:50 PM: well said mate it appears vodaphone are in constant breach of all their supply contracts.
27 Dec 2010 01:50:42 PM: See "decrepit reception & service" above - I told Vodaphone they had broken my contract and also asked for similar receipts & letter to no avail. Seems we have all been kept isolated until now but the game is now up for this bad deal.

2517 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is substantial fail at 27 Dec 2010 01:22:08 PM
Does anyone know how much it costs Vodafone to send a message? I can only assume it would be minimal, such as a few cents a message. So why are we paying over 20 cents a message? And with the millions Vodafone make, why can't they hire double the call centre employees, and hire them from Australia? Obviously every dollar counts more than customer service.
27 Dec 2010 03:53:47 PM: i used to work for a teleco and it costs them .5 of a cent to send a message the rest is pure profit......
29 Dec 2010 12:17:59 AM: If you have ever heard of the term outsourcing you would know it is better for a company to outsource their call centers. Thats why every carrier in AUS has indian call centers. I call the vodafone call center all the time and i can hear them fine its just the racist people in aus dont want to listen and when they can't understand it they say the indians can't talk properly.
29 Dec 2010 03:32:49 AM: I work with a LOT of Indians and I get along with them and can understand them all fine. And I am sorry but sometimes on the phone when you get a call centre in India or Egypt, their accent is just too thick to understand. Or they speak too fast with an accent, and its hard to follow. I often find that they have the same issues with our Aussie accents. Sometimes you ask them to explain something, and they just repeat the same explanation that you already didnt understand 5 times. Its really frustrating. It also doesnt help that they don't know various areas of Australia, and when there are 20 Mahmuts or Mohammeds in the Egyptian office (yes I actually found this out) then it makes it very difficult to put through a complaint also about a rude or dodgy customer service rep.
So while I have nothing against Indians as a race, I do agree with the above post, thats Australian based customer service reps are way easier to speak and relate to.
29 Dec 2010 01:55:27 PM: just for the record, 'race' is only a social concept. we're all human. you could be more genetically similar to someone born in india or china than to someone born down the street. just saying....
29 Dec 2010 02:29:48 PM: It's not just understanding THEM, there is a clear communication issue with them understanding ME and my issue. I don't know how many ways I can explain the same issue over & over again, but even if I use all the technical terms it just does not compute. I really have to speak like an idiot to get them to even remotely understand the basic concept of my issue. The last one I spoke to did not even understand 'add to cart' or 'add to basket' in their online store. Like... hello, why are you trying to communicate with me when you clearly cannot understand a single word of English. Surely there is someone better to speak to.

Was in big mess. 2 years ago I was in Europe with my phone being my only communication. Vodafone smsed me that I had irregular usage on my phone and to sms to confirm that was expected (I thought that was a good idea actually, until it unfolded into a disaster). I smsed. No response - after many, many tries. Then they disconnected my phone. Long story short, it cost me thousands of dollars of phone calls to 'Lara', who could only repeat: "I don't understand, did you mean customer service?", not to mention hundreds in hotel phone bills to sort it out. Their apology? $100 gift voucher... Unbelieveable!! (and the technical support I finally got through to had no idea how to reconnect the service - that cost untold dollars - for their incompetence!)

Call dropouts are unbearable, data shows up as unavailable even when there's 5 bars of reception, their automated 'customer service' is a waste of time, and I can't disable voice mail which I never wanted and specifically said I was only signing up if voice mail was disabled.

Two years ago I signed up for a two year contract. I just wanted to check email so this was for 1 GB per month and just under $30. In recent months the reception level has just dropped badly whether I am in Sydney, Central Coast or nearby. At the same time I am getting unusually high excess usage charges that I cannot check out. I cannot get into their account page as it requires active status of a mobile I got rid off a year ago. Calling the help number just means someone on the other side of the world who either hangs up or drops out in seconds. I do not want to deal with this company again.

I've just read an article on The Age website about possible class action against Voda-freakin-fone. I'm so glad this website exists!

Earlier this year I was left without ANY coverage whatsoever for almost a week. I called their bloody Indian call centre a dozen times, I emailed them via their website and to this day the issue has not been explained to me. Coverage returned after about a week but it certainly was no thanks to Vodafone's customer service (what service??).

I am locked in a contract until August 2011...I am counting down the days till I can break free and get away from this crappy carrier!
27 Dec 2010 03:20:45 PM: Someone just posted that you can get out of your contract at no charge. This is your right under consumer law since they are not providing the service they agreed to under your contract.

2394 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Deceptive SMS Marketing at 27 Dec 2010 12:48:52 PM
Did anyone else get this SMS'ed to their mobile a few weeks ago from Vodafone?
http://live.vodafone.com/go/to/VF1012062
It took me to a site about being able to use my data quota in many European countries for 2 Euros a day! I was going to Germany for a few days so I asked Hansa Lalvani at Vodafone Customer Service about it. They couldn't bring up the link, but it's still availabe today out there!

2392 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Less that Average at 27 Dec 2010 12:48:28 PM
I was with Vodafone for about 3 years. On PrePaid. Didn't have too many issues, apart from not being able to send or receive mms, sms arriving late or not at all, patchy reception, disconnecting calls, dreadful customer service oh, and then there were the "customer satisfaction" calls.
Needless to sat, now with Virgin and have much better service - still nowhere near as amazing as I've in the UK or Americas, but soooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than Vodafail, Oops I mean Vodafone.

2379 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Customer service at 27 Dec 2010 12:44:23 PM
Customer Service in the use of their automated processing of Customer calls is tedious and time consuming and at times frustrating. Button after button to be pressed and then you end up with some one from India or else where. Due all fairness i must say that io am satisfied with the Mobile Internet for my PC. In contrast to others I know who often had drop out issues with others such as Optus. o I opted for Vodafone and all is ok with my internet reception.
I think most complaints are referred to Mobile Phone usage. I don't use any of the Big Providers. I use a small player where I get great service and good value. perhaps it's time for amny of you Guys to simply just move on to other smaller players and get your justice that way. Then the bigger players will be forced to lift thir Game.
Let's be fair here. Optus and Telstra are also much to be desired hence even more of a reason to look for alternatives on the Net.

2373 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Extremely Useless!!! at 27 Dec 2010 12:42:50 PM
Ive been on contract for the past 18months, have been having problems with my handset eversince. It either freezes on me, diverts my call to someone I don't know, fails to let me text, this occurs on and off. One month it works and the next month it fails. My latest drama, I had to change my sim card because it would no longer read my current one!!! Need I go on.... Each time I take it back to where I purchased they give off some lame excuse, not to mention the service guy checking out the chicks walking past rather than paying attention to what I am telling him. I call the customer service line and they totally give me the brush off too...Christmas Day and I'm back to square one. Vodafone totally FAILS!!! When this contract is up I'm off elsewhere.

2370 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is Poor service, poor web support at 27 Dec 2010 12:41:48 PM
Re: prepaid broadband. Internet service drops out frequently, or slows to a useless crawl. And at top speed it ain't too speedy.

More frustratingly, I know they removed their Paypal recharge option, probably because it was so frequently out of order. At a recent recharge, however, I couldn't even recharge online with credit card - making me have to drive to the shop especially to buy a voucher. It's as if they don't actually _want_ their customers' money. This is the first time I've complained on a forum or anywhere else about a company, but Vodafone really do seem to me very indifferent to their customers.
27 Dec 2010 04:28:04 PM: Thank you for mentioning the credit card problem. I have the same issue and am tired of having to drive to the service station when I run out of credit. I have contacted Vodafone about this and asked why they wont accept my credit card and they cant give me an answer.
28 Dec 2010 08:21:39 AM: lol, does anyone remember that you could not even view Vodafones own website thorough the Vodafone Wireless mobile connection a little while back. You could not recharge / check balance / register a complaint through the websites. No access was allowed. Fixed now but I moved on shortly after wards.

2369 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extremely fail! at 27 Dec 2010 12:41:40 PM
Just got on to vodafone roughly 3 months in. The promised great reception in rural areas, fast internet speeds etc. What I get is quite contrary. I have a phone with crap reception all the time, no coverage almost everywhere outside the city, slow internet speeds, vodafone customer service sucks completely. What else can I add to this? They said they give me 2gb's data but in reality they are just charging me money and discounting it from my total plan... I did not sign up for this.

2365 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is HOPELESS at 27 Dec 2010 12:40:32 PM
I have been with Vodafone for more than 6 years. There service used to be fantastic and so did their coverage especially in regional areas (although not really remote but definitely out of the the big towns). Now it is appalling that I can't receive a call in the city where I live and work without it regularly dropping out. I am out of pocket regularly with the dropouts as I have to recall as face another connection fee plus the fact that they bill in 30 or 60 second intervals!!! Apparently they were doing a tower upgrade over a year ago but the coverage has only gotten worse not better especially in the regional areas. How come I can't have a conversation inside a house or building anymore???

I too have also experience customer service issues when calling Customer Care 1555, I finally get through once the stupid Lara (who used to work well) finally understands what I want but then I am placed on hold for an exhorbitant amount of time and then I am finally transferred to someone where it rings and rings and rings eventually after 5 minutes of the ringing I hang up (sick of the noise in my ear) and try again (I can only assume the person does not want to pick up as they can see how long I have been on hold for and will get an earful from me!). The next few times I try once Lara sorts it out, I am then told there has been a problem and I will have to call again later and am promptly hung up on. Other times, I am transferred to the wrong area to be told it is closed and need to call again during business hours and not given the option to speak to anyone or change my choice. I have to call again!!!

I am disappointed with both the coverage and service as I have recommended many people in the past to Vodafone and they are all worse off now than before and I am now faced with changing companies which means I have to pay to call them all or vice versa! All because of this crap!

2349 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is global roaming service at 27 Dec 2010 12:37:43 PM
over the last 2 years i've sufferred constant call drop outs with roaming in central bangkok. trying to run 2 businesses and poor reception aren't a winning combination. thank god for email and customers who are willing to call international numbers, otherwise i'd be broke.
bradman had a 99.99% run rate...but vodafone's drop out rate is matched.
yeah, i've sent countless emails to resolve issues, spoken with customer service operators (in egypt, phillipines, india, etc) at my expense at international rates, and had family ring on my behalf in australia and advocate on my behalf...and still the service is hopeless.
vodafone's email service always says they've resolved the problem, sending out "problem solved' emails, which causes further frustration.
their overseas call support always want to know "what the weather is like in australia" & that "they want to visit"...how would i know what the weather is in australia, i'm in bangkok making a complaint...and as for travel plans to australia, great...but don't use vodafone if you want to do the stop over in bangkok.

vodafone do my head in...i've been using this number for 10 years straight...so i'm boxed in with a high priced service that doesn't deliver...if the service delivered, i'd have no problem.

please feel free to contact me in regards to any further support or complaints to vodafone...this is the very short version of months of dealing with incompetance.

We were constantly being charged an excess on our account with Vodafone. After contacting their customer service centre and being told "don't know" we decided to go elsewhere only to be charged a $120 exit fee. They were charging us and could not even tell us what it was for?? Very, very disappointing and such a poor service.

2332 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Very unstable at 27 Dec 2010 12:32:51 PM
I have had continual poor reception with constant dropouts since I started my 2 year contract nearly 2 years ago. Since I use my mobile in my computer business you can imagine the embarrasment when calls with customers would just cut out. During calls I would also experience very poor call quality due to poor reception, making it very difficult to hear what customers are saying. My home office appears to be in a location where Vodafone coverage is not very good (even though I checked with the Vodafone shop staff before signing the contract) and most of the time my mobile shows no signal reception. I will often suddenly hear a text message come in saying I have a missed call, even though my mobile never rang. This is very common and quite frustrating. I'm definitely not getting my money's worth from my phone plan as I find most of the time I have to resort to a landline to make calls. I've tried different mobiles but I still have poor reception. I've also tried calling technical support a few times but haven't got very far. On a few occasions a Vodafone customer service representitive has rang my mobile but while talking with them my phone has dropped out, leaving me at square one. With only 3 months left in my contract I cannot wait to change providers so that I can use my mobile as expected. If Vodafone could improve their service I would be very happy to stay with them. I've found good reception with Telstra but I must say they are much more expensive...

Mind you, when purchasing my phone, the original SIM card I had picked up, when they went to register it in my name, the computer system told the customer service person that the SIM card was already in use. What the?!? It was in its original packet, not opened!

I signed up with 3 mobile broadband couple of years ago - not flash, but they did the job. Then, Vodafoney took over, and things are downhill all the way - many dropouts of service, offline for 60 to 90 minutes at a time, customer service calls go unanswered, or are re-routed to an automated voice message, pointless browser re-directions asking me to activate my account - after my pre-paid data allowance is finished, so will I be.

2285 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is terrible coverage at 27 Dec 2010 12:24:20 PM
Vodafone coverage in Portsea, Victoria is appalling. I hold my phone alongside others with the same make of phone on the same update and find that they have reception using Optus and Telstra when I have none. Vodafone customer service is a joke. I reported my problem last week, having had no reception for days and was very clear in my description of the issue. The reply came (a shock) and suggested that the information provided by Vodafone had cleared up the problem. This was not the case at all. The information didn't answer my problem at all. When I tried to reply I couldn't as the system told me that the problem was sorted out. Laughable.

LARA should be shot. Billing left to stategically shaved monkeys and service left to Telstra (NOW THAT IS SAYING SOMETHING!)

Have text (drove up the road for reception) from my apparant full coverage including 3G area. Have phoned, text , Faxed and emailed - NO RESPONSE.

Been a client for over 10 years... make that -11 years.

Vodafone use the TIO to process their complaints as a standard practice. If you have a complaint, Lara is the face of Vodafone, she is not real nor is Vodafone customer service.

2206 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL. at 27 Dec 2010 12:06:11 PM
My partner and I have been Vodafone customers for years and have seen the steady decline of its service and reception over those years. Most recently there are the obvious reception issues where within a group of friends, we are the only ones struggling to find reception in even the most popular areas. We have most calls dropping out or displaying 'Error in Connection' and text messages that fail to deliver or are delivered 6+ hours later. The last few weeks we have seen messages that are several months old being delivered and redelivered over and over again, often in place of the intended message. I often get the same two messages, one from my best friend and one from my brother, delivered almost every single day! WTF?! It's like having last months newspaper dropped on your door every morning...
I also feel like I was misled when signing up as I joined a contract plan, against my better judgment, thinking the capped plans were the best value for money at the time. Only after I signed up was I told I could get practically the same plan on pre-paid! *sigh*
Lastly, before signing up I was on the 3mobile $29 cap which in the two years I held the plan, I never exceeded. To my surprise, I 'upgraded' to the Vodafone $49 cap and found myself exceeding the limit every month without using my phone any more than I did on the old plan. Now my plan has expired, without any contact from Vodafone whatsoever to inform me or ask if I'd like to renew, so I just want to get out of this nightmare asap and leave Vodafone behind me... That's if I can ever get in contact with a real person in customer service!

My daughter cancelled her vodafone account 1 month ago and got an sms to say her bill is ready and she owes $200 guess what her number doesnt exisit at vodafoneso online or phoning they cant help after a number of emails we received here is your account you will be direct debited...as they were told that account had also been cancelled. I have been with Vodafone for around 6 years now and never have I experienced such poor reception, customer service and such delays.
I frequently getting people saying they called me, yet my phone never rang nor did it register a missed call but days later I finally recieve the voicemail message. I'm constantly turning my phone off and on to try to increase my reception. I recently was told to turn my "3G" off to gain more reception and it worked to a point where my phone says I have full reception yet I go to make a call and it tells me no network coverage!
I thank the creator of this website for letting all of us voice our opionions to a point where someone may listen to us!
If something isn't done in the coming month I will no longer be a vodafone user.

they told me they did not know and i would have to go into a retail vodafone store.

this kind of pathetic "Customer Service" is just ridiculous, its not JUST a retail stores responsibility to issue random vodafone customers with detailed information & queries. if this is the case the there is no need for vodafone 123 or any telephone customer service....

Had a 2 year contract mobile internet card for my laptop, the only place the thing ever semi-worked was at home!!! Constant dropouts and worse than dial-up speeds when it did actually connect. Customer service (which was obviously not in Australia) was pathetic, couldn't answer basic questions & they just transfer you or "accidentally" hang up on you!! (pretty much the same across all the phone companies though! When will these companies realise that cheaper is not always better when it comes to call centres! A nightmare trying to get a simple thing done to any service! You end up calling 5 times anyway!)
More importantly, coverage was useless! Was away a couple of times with friends with 4 other laptops and mobile internet & they all worked no problem with fast broadband speeds, I was sitting there still trying to connect!! Ended up using a local wifi hotspot instead (& still paid for Vodafone's rubbish !) Gone to Telstra now, costs a bit more & the customer service is just as bad (if not worse!) but at least the thing works!!

2145 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor Vodafone at 27 Dec 2010 11:52:38 AM
For five years we had our family business's six services with Vodafone, the coverage was never any good over our home office in 2035 or at parts of UNSW but the customer service we got as business customers was good. We recently had a change of account manager to the invisible man. Then I did a road trip to Byron Bay, up the New England Highway, back down the Pacific. As a test I bought pre-paid SIMs from Optus and Telstra and found, using thjree identical Nokia phones found both Optus and Telstra have good coverage in country towns and Byron Bay, but Vodafone coverage was atrocious. I contacted Vodafone many times over a six week period and CSRs kep promising 'someone will get back to me', of course they never did. We have now switched to Telstra.
