Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

Since signing up for mobile plan 12 months ago i rarely can take or make a call from my own house. Reception around the Newcastle area is dismal at best especially considerind it is now 2010. Have wasted so much time and money trying to access voicemail just to be cutoff just as the msg starts to play and have to call again. Worst is I was told it would cost me $700 to get out of my contract. Glad there are so many more in the same position and that now something may be done about it.

3587 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Absoluely disgusting at 27 Dec 2010 04:22:12 PM
I signed up with vodafone due to their great plans.. Little did I know that they were FUCKEN RUBBISH!! No reception, or if there is, it drops out and doesn't come back unless I turn my phone off and on again. Also, i'd try and send a picture msg, or even a plain old text msg, and it won't be received until the next morning at about 3 o'clock!!! It's absolutely disgraceful, and enough is enough!!! I cancelled my contract with them in October, received a final bill, but guess what Vodafone- I had to wait for reception from you guys: you can wait for my fucken money...

Trying to change my address was also an effort- after saying the address, spelling it out to them very slowly, giving the postcode and state, THEY STILL FUCKED IT UP!!! 3rd time lucky, they finally get it right!!

Hope you go bust arseholes- NEVER AGAIN!!!

We went overseas before Vodaphone took over Three and all was well. When we returned 7 weeks later the reception to our phones in many close-to-inner-city suburbs including at home has become non-exsistent. As a customer of Hutchinson/Three for over 10 years, we find this appalling.

Can not call in many places around Melbourne and I have lost customers due to their voicemail system not notifying me when I had a voice mail come in. I was not told that I needed to call 121 and check my mail everyday. This is not what I paid for. I also believe I have been over charged for many calls when travelling round Australia because of roaming. Also heaps of drop out calls causing so much frustration, also they don't let you know when better deals come out with more Gigabyte download, which I believe is quite sneaky. Also I pay $114

now after vodafone brought 3, my reception on my phone has been going downhill. i used to be able to access facebook from my bed at home, but now, it never lets me.
i thought that it was a good thing that they joined together, because there would be more antennas, but i dont know... just horrible.

I need to be contactable all the time and the service regualrly goes to voicemail which I don't recieve for days! Also I will be on a call and it will constantly drop out for no reason at all! It is becoming so frustrating!! And I live in the centre of sydney! I also have an Internet connection, which took my months to fix!! In which time I couldn't use it!!! Join the class action!!!!!

3571 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Very fail for mobile internet at 27 Dec 2010 04:21:03 PM
Fortunately I am out of this mess now and have Optus mobile internet and it works. That is why I am connected to the internet. My Vodafone mobile internet connection worked reasonably for the first six months of my two year contract. Then it got bad. I called and they told me it was because of my Norton Anti Virus. As I am not majorily IT savvy, I believed them.

A few months later, I had some time and I actually switched off my Norton and there was no change.

The crap ' I will work when I feel like' availability worsened over the next 6 months. It got to the stage where if often wouldn't even work FULL STOP. When it did 'work', it frequently cut out and it was never possible to have more than one webpage open at a time. I had to keep my mobile phone and other devices in another room to reduce its issues.

After more frustration, I was home on a TOIL day and I called vodafone again and was told that someone would call me back and let me know about the network coverage. Gee what a surprise, no call back.

Towards the end of my contract, I started getting calls from the salespeople (obviously trying to get me to sign up again). I told them about the issues and they made absolutely no effort to help me even though I had been paying $50 a month for internet that rarely worked.

It was at the stage where I would go and fill up the sink and wash a few dishes while waiting for the internet to change pages. What a joke, then it would usually cut out anyway.

I didn't bother trying a telecommunications ombudsman or others as I figured they would be dealing with millions of others but it would be good if there was better regulation in the industry.
I decided that I would just go and buy another internet service and pay for two until the end of my contract with vodafone as I really needed the Internet at home to study at night. I got the new Optus service, and I couldn't believe it, Optus worked, it didn't cut out, the speed was reasonable and I could have a few pages open at a time.

I was so angry with having been ripped off my vodafone. I went into the Vodafone store and asked to payout the rest of the my contract and they didn't want me to do it in the store. I had to raise my voice and complain loudly in front of the other customers to get it done. The guy calculated the amount and I paid out the rest of the contract.

A month or two later I got a letter from Vodafone telling me that I owed them $33 dollars, I didn't pay because I was so angry that I had done all the right things and then I got a letter from their debt collectors. Ha ha, what a joke, they were chasing me up for $33 and as far as I am concerned they owed me at least $700 for the time that the Internet didn't work (and that is being generous.

I paid it to get them out of my life. I will never have a contract with that company again. I may use prepaid vouchers on my phone periodically but definately no internet and no contracts.

I do feel sorry for their staff. It must be horrible working there.

3570 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is The worst company ever at 27 Dec 2010 04:21:03 PM
Last year I was without phone or internet coverage for 34 days!! And I lived in Dulwich Hill, about 10 mins from the city. I spent at least 16 hours on the phone (from various locations other than my home) trying to sort the issue out. Because I was under contract, vodaphone refused to let me go with another provider without paying a $760 exit fee (at this stage I had been with out service for about 25 days and I lived alone ). They finally released me from my contract on day 34 and I went with another provider. They then stuffed up the paper work and sent me a letter threatening legal action for breach of contract,...then when I called there was no record of the conversation that released me from my contract. It wasn't until I absolutely broke down that they transfered my call to Australia and it was sorted once and for all. The whole ordeal lasting over 2 months!!!

I was told when I took out my plan that the phone service was excellent where I live. I barely have any coverage at home. I have to find a tiny corner somewhere were I can get reception and stand with my head in a certain dirrevtion in that corner to make a call. Just impossible!!!!!!!
27 Dec 2010 04:31:32 PM: I experience the same problem and have been for a very long time. I am back in a contract with them because I was stupid enough to believe Vodafone that the coverage in my area will improve because they were taking over Three and also if I get a new handset, the coverage issues will resolve. Vodafone has taken over Three and I got a new handset - still the same problem.... actually worse. I have to sometimes turn my phone off and then put it back on to get coverage. My contract ends in 2011 and I will definitely not be resigning with them again... no matter what they offer!

I live in South-east melbourne and i WAS with Vodaphone. I always had bad reception, I had to go outside to use my phone, and then it barely worked. In the end i was being abused by family and friends because they could never contact me due to the crap reception i recieved from Vodaphone.

In the end i dumped Vodaphone as they offered no resolution, and kept saying it was my phone (which they supplied) and not the reception.

I am now a very happy customer of Optus and have no problem at all with reception.

I bought a $ 99 / 6G wifi stick with 3 months use limit for my laptop to use in country NSW at a town called Gunning while working there. It's about 1/2 hr west from Goulburn NSW and about a bit further in distance/time to Canberra ACT south. Vodafail coverage maps showed the area well in the "Total Coverage" area. It was on this information and assurances from the dealer that I purchased the stick from that it would deliver. Not only did it not work there at all, it hardly worked in Goulburn, a significantly major city center. It constantly dropped out there rendering any internet void. Vodafail took my money, assured me it would provide a service & did not deliver. There was still about 5.85G on the stick when the 3 months expired. Now I got a this wifi stick and I don't need it now that I'm back to my cable as the job in the country is complete. Thanks vodafail, it's got to be the easiest 100 bucks you made. I guess I & others could operate like you lot too. You know...like take your money FIRST to say....paint your Vodafail sign purple instead of red or just not do it at all... but where would we all be if we treated our customers like you do?

My mobile broadband reception is always dropping out and disconnecting, have been having problems for weeks now when I cant connect at all. I wasted over $20 of credit on my phone trying to find out what was going on when I couldn't get online for hours. They couldn't tell me anything. I also had a problem not so long ago where everytime I connected it used around 50 mb in the first minute and I hadn't even gone into any sites yet. This kept happening for around a week and I didn't report it as I knew I would get nowhere and just waste more money trying to contact them.

i signed up with crazy john who is a subsidiary of vodafone, chose the 'data' option for my $49 plan.

got home, phone polls between 2g and 3g so badly that calls CANNOT be maintained and quite often fail to come through at all (my friends told me often that my phone would say that i was out of coverage or some such nonsense)

so i figured out i can get semi stable signal if i turn off the 3g capabilities of my f**king smartphone which then renders the data useles.

complained to CJs about it and theyre like.....yea we dont care.
awesome.

in short, vodafone and its subsidiarys can all go f**k themselves.

also, my sister on 3 has similar problems relating to data as she cant use it due to the lack of vodafone signal.

Ive recently moved to Melb from Sydney - I get a bill $400 over my normal spend amount. So I call Vodafone to question my bill and I am told that its because of network upgrades! They tell me it should be fixed within a couple of months and that it will be worth the wait once the "new" network is up and running and that these kind of things happen in order for a better service. I asked the Vodafone rep why I should be expected to pay for a upgrade and I explained that I keep getting calls dropping out, cant access emails, voice mails that dont come through, and work cant reach me when I am on call - and considering I am in one of the Emergency Services my phone is absolutely required! The phone rep offers me a $112 credit as good will, not as a admission of liability he says. I asked about cancellation fees because of the poor performance and they tell me $998 ! Shonky shonky shonky! Im logging my complaint with the TIO and will be trying my absolute hardest to ditch Vodafone as soon as I can.

been signed up for the last 2 months, must have had my head buried in the sand coz never heard of this many problems before. Changed over from 3, which in Townsville provided us with roaming via Telstra, and always had a reliable edge signal. Whilst in Melbourne my wife and i got our new phones on contract. We had good coverage, even whilst in the Yarra Valley, full HSPA signal. On returning home to Townsville however is where the problems started. My phone's battery was crap, barely lasted 10 hours on standby doing nothing on the phone. Was told by the phone support, goto the store have it swapped over on early life. Got to the store to be told that it couldnt be done as I had got my phone from a dealer not the company, and would have to wait 2 weeks for it to be sent out in the mail. I cracked it. After hours of arguing, the store eventually caved it and gave me a new phone. Amonst all of this, when asking the phone support about my signal issues, the guy said "we can only guarantee coverage outside, we cant guarantee it inside your house". What the? I cracked again. How could i get brilliant signal from 3 (roaming on Telstra) anywhere i went in Townsville, and not with these idiots when they are the same company now? Am very disappointed, should have stayed with 3 until they disappeared as least would have reliable signal.

I'm trapped into relying on Vodafone through their subsidiary Crazy Johns. Totally unreliable both for coverage (I live in Northcote in Melbourne) and for service and care. All I have EVER had are empty apologies. On one phone call I was on hold for over 5 minutes while the employee read through my endless stream of issues with coverage and bad service. DONT use Vodafone or any company that shares their network.

3511 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible beyond Bad at 27 Dec 2010 04:16:39 PM
To be fair I have a company phone but I believe I should also be part of this website. I have numerously complained to our HR department on how bad the drop outs and the time to receive messages. All our sales reps have the same problem. We would be talking to a customer and all of the sudden with full reception bar, the calls just dropped out. We have to make the call again to complete our conversation. At times we have to do this 3 or 4 times to complete a business deal. When one of us send a message, especially with hot deals for customers, the receiver doesn't receive the message till 3 or 4 hours later. Few times I receive messages up to 24 hours later.
Looks like they don't care what we feel as long as they are paid for the 3 or 4 calls we made to complete the conversation.
Vodafone, get more financial help from your UK head office and upgrade your network!!!!!

I call Vodafone, and after waiting for 30 mins on hold, im asked to power down my phone (already done this twice with no luck) as if there is something wrong with it.
I try to explain to the guy that I have three other people on my office floor having the same problem, but he tries to insinuate my phone is faulty as there are no network problems.

My new vodaphone pocket wifi device has worked everywhere I have taken it even in areas that vodaphones map said had no service. 3473 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extremely!! at 27 Dec 2010 04:14:11 PM
I have been with Vodafone for two years, until early November I'd had no network problems so re-signed for another two years and bought a HTC Desire HD. BIG MISTAKE. I don't know whether the phone is partly the problem, or whether it's purely down to the poor coverage and service from Vodafone, but from the day I brought the phone home I have had problems. If I am lucky enough to get a 3G signal in my apartment - which is one train stop from Sydney CBD, so should, theoretically be a full coverage area - it lasts only a minute, so making calls, keeping the call going, and being able to hear the person I am speaking with is difficult. As I write this I am unable to make calls or receive calls at all, it has been the same since 11am, so seven hours so far today. And it isn't the first time.

When out and about I'm unable to surf the web, Facebook doesn't update and accessing email takes a long time, and often times out. Twice now my phone has completely frozen, meaning I lost all call information and texts; very annoying!

Oddly, my husband has a basic Nokia phone which is connected to the Vodafone 3G network, he has no signal problems in our apartment, and rarely drops calls, so I am wondering whether the Vodafone network problems are magnified when using iPhones or Android phones; does anyone think that makes sense? Is it technically feasible?

I have called Vodafone Customer 'Care' on numerous occasions; I can't recall a more frustrating experience. I was passed from 'Customer Care' to 'Upgrades' to "Tech Support' repeatedly, each time I was told only another department could help me. The 2.5 hours I spent arguing with the sales rep in the Vodafone store saw me leave with a replacement phone, but of course that didn't solve any of the network problems.

Does anyone know where dissatisfied customers stand legally if they simply stop using the Vodafone network, and stop paying the monthly bill? As far as I can tell, Vodafone are not upholding their side of the contract, so does that give due cause to pull out?

I got a 24 month contract on a phone that didn't work from day one, after taking it to the vodaphone shop many times to get fixed, I was told there was nothing wrong with it. It kept loosing reception, not receiving messages and glitching. After being frustrated for a year I went back another time and asked for an upgrade to add a new phone on my plan. I was told there was no such thing as an upgrade... so I left. Then a few months later I got a new plan with vodaphone (worst mistake) and I was told by the guy that he would never sell this phone to anyone.... funny that because he was the man who sold me the phone.... after a few months of having this new phone I was overcharged on my bill, so I called vodaphone only to speak to a man who asked me if i wanted an upgrade on my phone.... THE UPGRADE THAT DIDN"T EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE, THE UPGRADE THAT COULD OF SAVED ME A NEW PLAN AND MY MONEY.

Me, my mum, and my stepdad are all on vodafone and we can NOT call each other when one of the person's in the call is at home. We live in balgowlah in sydney, central, in what should be perfect coverage, however we just get NO reception at our house. Mum and I can stand next to each other in the kitchen and try call each other and the call won't even go through. If someone is out and tries to ring one of us at home, it usually takes them a few 'call dropped's to get our phone to actually ring, and then if we don't run to the very few areas of the hosue where there is one bar of reception, we aren't able to make a decent phone call. I would understand if we lived way out in the bush that we would have dodgy recepction but in the middle of suburbia on sydnye's northern beaches is rifdiculous. Not to mention i can NEVER connect to the vodafone WAP while i amout and about in manly, balgowlah, and similar suburbs. its actually ridiculous how delayed our texts are to each other, and we now call the home phone and pay rather than try and actually get through on our mobiles to each other. Most people go on a cap to save a little money, but its seems Vodafone knows how to make you spend money. To have a 5 minute conversation in my house you have to make 5 calls, as there is never any reception in the house, and the phone always drops out. Nice to know they are charging a connection fee for every one of those 5 calls.
With a house hold of vodafone users, looks like vodafone will be loosing 5 loyal customers.

On the occasions when I do have enough range to make a call or receive an incoming call, the phone almost always drops out whithin minutes of making a connection. When I spoke to store where I purchased my vodafone, they said it was most unusual and that they had not had any complaints from other clients! Clearly, this is not the case!!

It is rare for me to have reception. I get no reception at work. At home. At my parents'. In my yard. I'm lucky to get some reception if I wander around in the front yard. There is almost no point having this thing. Even if it were an emergency I don't think I'd be able to call for help.

And even though I paid my bill on time (on the due date) they still, 2 months in a row, charged me a payment dishonour fee of $16.50.

It's beyond a joke.

I had no reception, after numerous phone calls, numerous hours at a time waiting for customer service and quite a few drop outs and i finally got a little compensation. I was also told the service would be better and if anything it has gotten worse!! After being told to take out handset insurance when i had signed up incase that very thing happened, i was told by a Vodafone rep after a 40 minute wait on hold, that no, handset insurance does not cover a cracked screen. Then to be further told that it would cost $150.00, and my phone would be sent away "for a week or two". The level of "customer service" (term used lightly), is so poor. McDonalds probably has better service. Jeez, thanks Vodafone, my loyalty over the past 15 years has obviously been appreciated by the company! Because I had such poor reception I went into the Greenhills store and told them that they ethically should not sell phones to people who live in the Metford area as no reception exists. iam on a $49 cap which i never use as i dont get reception and when i do it drops out and turns 1 phonecall into 5 or 8 its ridiculous iam contracted till july 2011 i will gladly bide my time as i signed a contract and will fulfill my end of the deal ,i cant use my phone to all its ability :( i have missed numerous important phone calls which have resulted in personal and monetery costs/losses .Such a large company should be able to provide coverage all around australia if smaller companys can why not vodaphone ??? July cannot come fast enough and being on a pension iam unable attm to buy a cheaper prepaid phone or pay out my contract.. frustrated raleigh customer..

Shit SHIT coverage, EVEN in popular suburbian areas! Even with their wireless usb interest same thing SHIT to no coverage at all!! Receiving messages late. Calls drop out or are very shakey. COMPLETE FAIL and I will NEVER be a customer EVER again!! WASTE OF $$
