26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

I have to walk to the street to use my vodafail phone. Im in Woodford in the blue Mountains. When I signed up the coverage maps showed full coverage. But when I complained and tried to get a refund they basically laughted at me and said there will be a payout figure to pay. Bad luck customer we already have your money ha ha.

Signed up to a contract on 3 December 2010. After hours of communications with vodafone and many tears I still have No phone (did not work within 1 hr of signing up and they would not replace, but instead send away for repairs), and I have now found that I do not get coverage at my address and they refuse to cancel my contract. I have now been 25 days without a phone. Shameful and money grabbing of them. I am taking my claim to small claims.

5863 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is No reception in Brisbane at 28 Dec 2010 06:17:58 AM
We can get limited reception at the back of the house or on the street, but not in the house at all.....and we live in Shailer Park, Brisbane. That means that we often get messages after we drive out of the estate - hope there are never anyu URGENT messages. Telstra works fine.

5862 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Big time fail! at 28 Dec 2010 06:17:36 AM
I have been with Vodafone for over 10 years and up until 12 months ago had great coverage, good customer service (although getting through to the right area with "Lara" was always painful), no problems with either my mobile or internet connections. Then my internet started having connection problems, dropping out repeatedly and generally not performing to the standard I expected for what I was paying for. I made call after call after call to complain to be told it was my computer, the network was busy, etc - all complete nonsense. After 4 months of calls to fix the problem, I finally reached a gem of a man called Alain who was at a call centre in San Francisco, he listened patiently to my rants, actually apologised and then proceeded to find out what the real problem was and although this took him a few days he called me back when he had gathered the information - in short there were major network problems in my area and I was never going to have good connection. I can honestly say this man was way too good and professional to be working for Vodafone as he actually cared about his customer and had the integrity to be honest. Not one person in any of the Australian call centres could be bothered to help me or provide any honest information about the network other than to lay blame elsewhere (ie. my equipment). Unfortunately it was too little too late and I severed my internet and mobile accounts with them. I still have a prepaid with them (which when the credit runs out this month I am changing to another providor) and I called my parents this morning to tell them about this website as I'd seen it on the news last night and guess what? - that's right - my call didn't connect as the network was busy! What rubbish - it's 8am on Public Holiday, everyone's still asleep!!

5861 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Terrible. at 28 Dec 2010 06:17:25 AM
Terrible experience, I spend at least $200 with Vodafone a month yet my phone and internet barely work. I will be changing everything to another telco as soon as possible. Reception is not there and cannot get hold of customer service. Been with Vodafone over 6 years and their inability to act and address the issue at hand means that I will be canceling all of my business and personal contracts with them. Disappointing considering I used to be a Vodafone employee.

A 10% fail rate is very inconvenient, whilst driving the phone drops out numerous times. I drive home along Eastlink and the phone always drops out near High st and then at Ringwood bypass, then a third time on Wonga rd. I always have to apologise in advance and call back. I have a telstra pre paid for when I travel out of city so I get some coverage!

5859 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is SHOCKING! at 28 Dec 2010 06:15:05 AM
I have two mobile phones. One for my business aswell as personal and the other for my wife. I am very dissapointed and SO ANNOYED at their reception service. Cuts out ALL THE TIME in many areas as well as my home. It is really getting bad, as i am speaking to clients. I am a capenter and need to ba able to discuss needs in detail and VODAFONE can not provide my needs.
When am at home and i have to continue to ring clients back or go walk about outside to find a better reception spot. This is not good enough. I should be able to sit in my office and speak to clients without issue. It is very frustrating not just for me but for clients as well, especially potential future clients. I need to be able to conduct business professionally.
I am also unable to speak to my wife on the mobile when i am at job sites as she is at home with 2 young babies. She is unable to go walk about outside to find reception area when her mobile rings. She answers and can not speak for long before cutting out. Only one part of the house can get a little reception. This is very frustrating for her too.
We will defanately be leaving Vodafone when contracts finish and going to a more respectable service provider.
Vodafone will never get our business again as customer service is low and you get fed up being on hold. Never again.

Been a vodafone customer for over ten years. The past few years have been frustrating, the past 6 months have been ridiculous! I have never had so many drop outs, no network messages, failed calls, no data, voicemails failing to come through for 12 hours etc etc etc! I have lived in he same area for 6 years. My husband has no trouble with optus. My daughters are with vodafone as well. We are all having the same problems. Calls to off shore help centers don't help either. With suggestions of keeping a log noting when all this happens. After a few hours of constantly writing notes I gave up. I think that all vodafone customers should stop paying their accounts enmasse till vodafone takes this serious. We are being given the run around constantly and yet they ar still raking in the millions! Totally over it and totally regret re signing withbthem!!

I am a three customer and have big problems with Three in Weetangera. My daughter also is a three customer and has ongoing reception issues. Currently in Young she is using her boyfriend's mobile to keep in touch. I wonder how other Three customers are getting on. Three and vodafone are now linked.

5854 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Bad reception and delayed texts at 28 Dec 2010 06:11:45 AM
My Vodafone reception fails in so many places where those with other providers can use their phones. I have to walk outside of most shopping centres, often lose reception when in open areas and sometimes the service simply stops working altogether so that I have to switch my phone off and back on again to re-establish a connection. Texts I send and receive, especially those with photos attached, are often delayed and finally arrive at either end in the early hours of the morning, scaring the living daylights out of the recipient.

I was told the area I live is fully covered when I obtained the connection. But I cannot take incoming or out going calls from home. I cannot receive my text messages or the emails too. Very poor service, I cannot speak to a Customer Service agentas I am put on hold for in excess of 50 minutes. I am not joking 50 minutes. Do you think anyone has time to be on hold for that long. It is a rip off.

5849 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is a shocker at 28 Dec 2010 06:09:38 AM
Vodafone provides me with the poorest quality communication products on the market for the worst value money can buy. I have a phone I can hardly ever use as its rarely in service, And when It is in range of a signal, the line gets static and drops out constantly. My friends and family don't have this problem as none of them are a Vodafone customer, as they like to remind me every time my phone drops out:( I also have vodafone mobile broadband, with the reception and net speeds so bad I believe it could be worse than the third world countries Vodafail probably bought their technology from, on sale off the back of a wooden cart.

5845 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Primitive at 28 Dec 2010 06:07:20 AM
I signed up with Vodafone after being a long time Optus customer. My parents got a new iphone and I did to.Since then it has been nothing but a horrible experience. I am a single mother of two kids who go to day care I need my phone in case the child care need to contact me but if I am at work I do not have reception on my phone even though the person sitting next to me has full reception on their phone, they are with optus.I have tried to contact Vodafone but it is near impossible. I dont receive messages when they are sent. Calls drop out there is really poor recetion no matter where I am.I have to walk around trying to get it. I was charged with excess net charges even though I dont use use it as it is impossible to do so it took me three days to contact Vodaone customer (not Care) to talk to someone about it and finally got on to someone only to be told that there was nothing they could do about it even though I asked them to look at my other bills that clearly showed that I do not use the net on my phone but they were not interested all they did was take money of it which still made it double my monthly amount.I dont use the net on it as it is impossible to do so.I am so over it it is the worst thing I have ever done I need a reliable service in case my children need me but with vodafone I cannot expect this.

The data speed in Melbourne is super slow, sometimes 3g isn't even working. Been out for couple of drives the last couple of days to Torquay and Phillip Island and half the time no 3g, and sometimes to reception either. Not good when your relaying on google maps. Lucky we have some friends on virgin with us, their data is reliable and fast. They had no problems from Melbourne to Phillip island in fact the only problem was their battery lift because they could use their phone's the whole way!
Come on Vodaslow, get with it!

Vodafone is absolutely crap!I have complained to them numerous times and it still gets me nowhere. I hardly ever even have ANY reception. Calls drop out all the time. I completely HATE THEM and tell everyone I know never to go with them because they are so rubbish. Can't wait til my contract is done, I will change over to someone, ANYONE, else!!!! My boyrfirend works in the Telco industry and I know that Vodafone often have their equipment just sitting out in the open in a desk, (one time was sighted on a desk in SCHOOL!), and he says it is the worst equipment he has ever seen since wokring in the industry for the last seven years. No wonder they are so crap.

5836 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is near complete fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:01:53 AM
i've been a customer since 2000 and the reception in the last 3 or so years has been bad. even when i'm calling from city to city, i have dropouts. even within seconds of the receiver answering the call. personally, i think they want to make money from connection fees. sometimes i have to call 4 times just to have a conversation.

the other issue is MMS. i sent a picture of my new puppy to some friends and i got messages from some people - one person received the message SIX times! others 2, others 4, the lucky ones got it once.
i tried to complain and called 1511 and after battling it out with voice activated lara, i got to talk to someone in a call centre overseas. she pretended not to hear me when i starting making the complaint and get this - she said that she can't hear me and the connection must be faulty (tell me how can a telecommunications multinational be allowed to have poor connection to the phone help desk??????) - then started reciting "please call back during the business hours of ..." to which i was appalled and tried to get her to 'hear' me, she repeated herself again.

then i said - "you're lying"
to which she replied (with perfect timing as if she'd heard me) - "goodbye"
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i decided to call again and after waiting for 30 minutes, gave up.

so i emailed complaints. they gave me the run around. eventually after being passed through 2 people, i was advised to call yet another stupid number. i give up!

i have decided to pay for the MMS's and switch telcos as soon as my blasted contract is over.

i don't normally get riled up but this multinational is really giving me the expletive.

I use the Vodafone mobile broadband service and although their coverage map shows that I should get good reception in my town of Raymond Terrace, it's only occasionally that I get a strong signal of three bars out of a possible five, normally I only get one or two bars. Irrespective of the number of bars though, on many occasions even if I do have three bars, there is no download or upload activity happening for long periods of time even though it shows I am connected.

Extremely poor reception, Call drop outs, unsent and unreceived text messages on a regular basis. I have given up attempting to contact vodafone. Am extremely angry at this point as just the simple thing of sending a text is unpredictable, and has caused a lot of grief with my family, friends and work due to this. Several months ago I would send a text and either none or 10 were received. The text message issue has only been for several months however the call drop out has been going on for years for me and as I travel to Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra regularly this issue has occured everywhere not just in Tasmania. Yep not happy right now.

5825 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor Service Does NOT REFLECT ADVERTISING at 28 Dec 2010 05:52:31 AM
Over the past 6 months I have been unemployed and looking for a job so my mobile was critical. I have had numerous times when calls have failed to reach me only to be diverted to voice mail and then subsequently had to ring the other pary and be charged for the missed call. I also experienced the "network busy" issue on numerous occasions in the heart of Sydney. When visiting country NSW recently, my phone was useless due to the lack of coverage.
Obviously the advertising does not stack up against the reality - this is a major issue for the ACCC and the Department of Fair Trading to investigate.

5822 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Appalling at 28 Dec 2010 05:50:08 AM
I have been a Vodafone customer since 2000, and at first was pretty satisfied. Just last year I upgraded my contract to receive a new phone and some discounts with 3G data. Then this year a USB modem to supply data to my new Macbook. When I agreed to terms I was adamantly told I was in an area which received good service and coverage.Again and again I explained I had no land line at home and the USB modem would be my only source of connection for data transfer. I was also lied to about the price I was to be charged for my contract. I negotiated a price for the USB modem, which included a 25% discount. My USB modem arrived in the post, with instruction to phone Vodafone to connect. In order to connect I was instructed I had to verbally agree to the contract which was supplied to me with USB modem pack, which differed to the one I had negotiated over the phone. I was then instructed to agree to the contract provided and it would be rectified once I had done so. When I later inquired to the amount I was paying, and explained my situation, I was told in no uncertain terms that no such discount was, or could have ever been offered. A check of my supposedly recorded con-versation when I first negotiated failed to appear i guess, as I was never granted an explanation I was promised. I swallowed this and moved on. Then in the last six months I have suffered endless connection and data download problems. I have complained and they have filled out trouble tickets. At different times I have been told differing accounts of why my data connection is either slow or not working. Rangining from the construction of the building I am in, which has not changed, the position of my building, which has not changed, that I am in a bad area, or area of low coverage, which is the same area I was in when I first agreed to terms with Vodafone, which worked fine. I live in a one bedroom house with no construction of houses in my immediate area, which was another excuse offered by Vodafone. When trying to discuss problems with customer care, at times being on the phone for over an hour dealing with people who are obviously not interested or understanding of your problems it becomes very frustrating. My latest call to Vodafone on Boxing day must have interupted Xmas celebrations at their call center. During the cheering and applauding in the background my helpful customer care operator would be non responsive, at times not listening to my explanations, then I was being treated as if I was being difficult. I was told that where I live had been experiencing difficulties ? No kidding!!! I was also told that there would be no improvements in the near future and that was that !!!!! Not good enough VODAFONE !

Last week my partner and I(both vodafone) all of a sudden had could not send or receive txt's or calls, dispite having reception. A few days later we were able to send and receive txt msg's however they're delayed. If we drive about 2km down the road we our phones work again. This is proving to be quite dangerous as we have an 18month old and I am in the last stages of pregnancy, and god forbid I need to call a doctor or ambulance. It's like our house has fallen into a blackhole. We live right in the main section of our town too. I have driven down the road on a few occasions and tried to call but I do not have all day to sit on hold. Myn partner and I would both like to get out of our contracts without payment as this is NOT the 1st incident we have had with Vodafone, and let's be honest it won't be the last.

5817 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Incredibly at 28 Dec 2010 05:48:36 AM
Almost daily my internet wont work.
I've given up on using my 'smartphone' to browse the internet.
Only sticking to facebook and gmail because it's too much of a struggle to load other things and i frankly don't want to be waiting 5 minutes for the load bar to move a milimetre.
In saying that - it consistently tells me i'm not in a coverage area - even though there's bars of reception and a 3g symble.

Then there's the times when i'll receive no messages at all.
Even though i have FULL reception.

Then later in the day my phone will vibrate non stop and i'll get 5-6 messages all at once. I KNOW they werent all sent at that second.

Stop failing vodafone.

There's also the times i'll have no missed calls.
My phone wont ring.
Again - with reception.
But i'll eventually get a message hours later informing me of a voicemail.

5813 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Pocket Wifi fail at 28 Dec 2010 05:47:14 AM
Signed up for the Pocket Wifi deal. Great device, but not happy with the reception in the Hornsby area in Sydney. I place the device in a location inside my girlfriends unit where I get 5 bars of 3G reception. The 3G service often drops down to the low speed "H" network or I lose service entirely. This makes surfing the web very frustrating. I have to try all manner of tricks to get a connection back again. I hope that Vodaphone realise that this wave of complaints from its customers is not a situation to be ignored. I think it's fair to say that there will not be a magic solution to this, it will take time. If it takes too long Vodaphone will lose a significant number of customers to other telcos.

I would like to complain about the poor reception and no service I am receiving from Vodafone since I signed up with Vodafone in March. I got my new iphone in March and also got one for my wife and I am very unhappy with them. We get no reception even when we are in St Leonards or anywhere. I cant ring Vodafone from my phone as the calls drop out or the quality is very very poor. IThe messages come through days after they are sent. Calls do not show up. I am unable to get the net on it as It tells me there is no 3g or Wi fi available message or no interent connection available. If I ring Vodafone Lara I am unable to even speak to someone as the calls drop out or the person on the line does not understand me or I am told to turn the phone on and off .I went to the store at Blacktown and the staff are so rude I dont even bother to go anymore.Very unhelpful.
I have emailed before but of course there is no response.. I am paying for two so called smart phones and the only thing I can do successfully is listen to my music on it!!!!Should have stayed with Optus.

5809 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is DISGUSTING at 28 Dec 2010 05:41:18 AM
I got a wireless dongle on a 24 month contract so I could access work emails when I traveled. Didn't matter where I was, reception was always "very low" and I had to reboot half a dozen times to then wait 5 minutes for a simple email to download. I just couldn't rely on it anymore so, even though I don't like Telstra, I got a bigpond dongle and never had a problem! I waited 24 months then canceled the contract but they continued to send me monthly bills. Every time I tried to ring I was put on hold for ages then cut off. I started ringing the new sales number as they only take about 20mins to answer that one. When I eventually spoke to a person they assured me my contract was now canceled but wanted to argue about the date - I then figured out they were in INDIA! where it was actually the day before. So now all our private details including credit cards are available to anyone in India??????? I went straight out and canceled all our business mobile phone contracts and took them to Telstra - cost me a fortune but got great customer service and reception in places Ive never had it before!

I have been having network coverage issues for over 4 months now. It doe not matter where I am -I am without coverage 99% of the time. My text messages and voice mail messages are delayed sometimes by over 24hours.
My mobile is so important to me as I have a young daughter and I also atend dialysis daily. So many times the nursing staff have tried to conatct me on my mobile and it goes straight to message bank -and I do not recieve the message in time. While I am on dialysis my daughter attends vacation care, what if they needed to conatct me .....they cannot reach me because I have no network coverage. My mobile phone is also important as I could recieve the most important phone call ever to say they have a new kidney for me. So as you can see my mobile is so necessary for me.
I have rang Vodafone numerous times, many times I have had to hang up after waiting on hold for over 40mins. When I do speak to an operator they tell me me to -restore factory settings and select manual (under settings/network)and they say this should fix the problem, if not ring back in 24 hours. I ring back in 24 hours and they want to do exactly the same fix that we did yesterday. I try to tell them that we did this yesterday -so then they tell me to swap sim cards over and it could be the phone that is the problem not Vodafone.I have asked about exiting my contract early without a fee and they will not do it.....I am realy desperate. Any help would be great.

5795 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is continuously failing at 28 Dec 2010 05:34:38 AM
I have been with Vodafone for a little over 2 years after being assured by them that they had a better phone coverage than Optus. I spent long periods of time trying to have my service dropout problems resolved but each time it was the same story - "you have total coverage in those areas (?") I changed settings in my phone with the assistance of a service person at Vodafone and then after the first 12 - 13 months of my contract I was advised it must be the phone handset causing the issue and at that point the phone was out of warranty and therefore my problem as it was a Nokia issue. NOkia of course referred me back to my carrier and I was on the "roundabout". When my contract was up I was assured (by Vodafone - funny how easy it is to get on to the "renew your contract" people) that a new phone would assist in the service not dropping out etc. I therefore signed up for a new 24 month plan with a new phone and now find that it is even worse than before with random dropouts and disconnections. I have managed to contact the complaints dept who put me through to the "technical department" who got me to take out my battery and sim card and clean the dust off them!. Of course at the time of speaking to them I had service, even though it was minimal. I find when you can contact them there is never any resolution to the continual dropouts.

I barely have reception most of the time, the Internet works occasionally - which is stupid considering I have an iPhone and everything needs the net! I'm getting so sick of it, I don't want to give vodaphone anymore money for a service they aren't providing! I spent an hour on the phone waiting, so that I could eventually explain my problems to someone who barely spoke English. I'm going to complain to the TIO, they shouldn't be able to get away withthis..

Constant drop outs, poor reception.
I was almost out of the contract, but then they asked for the iPhone back. I asked for the $240 I paid upfront for the phone but they did'nt want to budge. Vodafone were willing to give me the phone and weave 50% of the exit fee.

I explained to them, how can you charge me 50% of the exit fee when you are breaching contract by not providing me a service, they said we cant just give you a phone. I said to Vodafone, I dont even want the phone, I even offered them $120 for the phone they still would'nt budge, so basically just going around in circles.

I now have a case with the TIO so waiting on their respone and have also submitted interest with Piper Alderman who are handling the class action case.

Fingers crossed

I signed up one month before moving to an area with no service at all despite coverage maps showing coverage. I was unaware that I possibly could have got out of the contract back then and now it only has 2 months to go.
Not only do I have no coverage, I haven't been able to access my online bills for 12 months since changing ISP's. I have continued to pay my cheap ($10pm) plan because I get $130 credit each month and it's useful when away from home. I was told I could get out of my plan once I finally complained to TIO but who would want to give up $10 giving you $130pm calls and sms's. I would love to be able to use my plan all the time. I'd also love to be able to see my bills. Surely paper bills could have been arranged when they realised I had this problem.
I also recently purchased Vodafone (Crazy John) mobile braodband for times I'm in Canberra and Sydney (useless at home)only to find even in Sydney the reception is terrible. I'm now having to use my daughter's internet as the Vodafone mobile internet is too unreliable. I should have learned my lesson by now.
I've gone to the class action site to register but think I need a slap upside the head for being silly enough to choose Vodafone again.

Wireless Internet is very poor. I was duped at the shop when told the area I live in had excellent reception so I signed up for 24mths. Once home the Dongle didnt even work and took me 3 days for a " technician " to go through the steps with me. This didnt work either so I went back to the shop and was told they cant help me and I was to phone the helpline. Great.
Eventually I was connected but still suffer from bad connection speeds and dropouts. Some days I cant connect at all.
28 Dec 2010 08:26:31 AM: I had the same experience in Broadbeach, Qld -4218. Constant problems with the dongle. Took it back to the "Vodafone" branded shop in Oasis centre where I bought it. Was told they were "just a franchise" and could not help, funny how they never said that when they took my money in the first place. They said I should call the helpline or take dongle to the "proper" Vodafone shop in Pacific Fair. First I called the helpline, who of course couldn't help. Took dongle to Pac Fair where an "expert" altered so many settings in my computer that nothing else worked when I got home either. Took my computer to a local "geek squad", they said Vodafone had stuffed the settings. Went back to Pac Fair but of course they refused to refund the 50 bucks it cost me for the geeks. Vodafone is a shit company, happy to take your money and couldn't care less about providing anything back. I'll try Telstra, but who knows if they'll be any better - compared to USA and Europe, mobile telecomms service standards in Australia are a joke and the government does zip.
28 Dec 2010 10:10:35 AM: I was duped at Pacific Fair too. BIG VODAFONE signs everywhere, but they don't seem to have ANY pull with the ACTUAL VODAFONE when it comes to problems or questions. The store in Pacific Fair won't even answer the phone when it's ringing under their nose. I SAT THERE and WATCHED them ignore it! For half an hour! They're NOT INTERESTED in your problems, they ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY! Big smiles to new customers, existing customers can go and get stuffed, we've already GOT you in a contract, and if you try and break free or default on your payments, WE'LL JUST DEFAULT 'YOU' ON THE CRA FOR FIVE YEARS!!! This is how they flog us into line, like good little slaves/milk cows. HATE 'EM
29 Dec 2010 07:34:57 AM: I had a same problem, luckily mine was a post paid but no lockin contract. got rid of them and went to another carrier using the Optus wireless network. Similar problem at home. got rid of wireless internet and went back to ADSL.

I require my phone for work and despite having a BRAND NEW phone on the latest and greatest plan I still am required to have my old phone with me just in case. I am constantly "roaming" and if I'm not using WiFi (home and office) my 3G coverage is about as slow as a dial-up 56k connection - if I even get 3G.

My partner is with Telstra and her identical phone is amazing..... even in basement carparks she still gets good reception versus me who as soon as I walk inside my phones reception seems to fall apart.

Switching from WiFi to 3G lately I have had to reboot my phone on more than one occasion for it to work.....

Voda this is unacceptable and had I known what I know now I would never had joined the network.

If the fone had reception in the areas indicated on the map in the Townsville region I would be happy. A telstra phone works fine, the telstra phone even recieves voicemail on the same day. Where do I start? I always blamed my reception in my house on the roof, as many others have already said, wandering outside to make a call/get 3g coverage was my only option. Then my friend walks in with a different network/same phone combination, and it's like trying to tell him the tooth fairy is my wife.

Dec 11, walked into VF store as I had "NO COVERAGE", three steps away from the counter I was told to "read the sign", an a4 piece of paper notifying meof what I already knew...the network was down.

Since that day not even walking outside solves my problems, drop-outs, no service, sluggish phone.

What to do? My old-man always suggested to vote with your feet...

5767 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is EPIC at 28 Dec 2010 05:06:00 AM
I've had a Vodafone prepaid mobile broadband for about five months now.
When I was planning to purchase mobile broadband I was advised to buy the Telstra version as the 3g coverage was superior to its competitors. Having had previous problems with the telstra unit I did some research on the Vodafone unit. I was assured by Vodafone that my address was well within the coverage area and as I live upon a hill that the signal would be fine.
However when I purchased the product and hooked it up I found that there was no signal at all. I have had to move my pc all around the house in order to even find a signal. Once i found a good signal Ive had to set my pc up in the kitchen, where the signal is the strongest, however the problem is that the signal drops out every 5 minutes or so.all day everyday. Max connection time is about 5- 15 min. Also with my prepaid mobile broadband deal im supposed to get 50 free sms, however the sms feature has never worked. Ive uninstalled the program numerous times and reinstalled it. All with no change. If I try to send an sms I get an error msg. The prepaid mobile broadband costs me $30 for 2gb and 50 free sms.

I have poor reception where I live and it is a local suburb of Adelaide. My signal strengh is Zero to one bar abd even after 15 calls in as many weeks I still have no internet that I can rely on. After many calls and promisses of it being fix they then told me there working on the problem. I went and bought an external antenna which at the location I bought it improved my recieption. Got home and it didnt change a thing. After many hours of running between Voda Fone shop and phone calls I still have little to know internet. When I asked about getting out of the plan I was told that because there looking into the problem they wouldnt waver the disconnection fees. So I am in limbo. Just have to keep putting up with the bad service.

At last somewhere to voice your frustration. I've been a customer of Vodaphone for some years. Why - well for me their plan(s) are the right match, but the downside is very very poor reception. I live on the far south coast of NSW and it is only in a few places that I will get good reception. I even have to go from one end of the house to the other in order to make or receive a call and then have to have the mobile phone at the right angle to catch the signal. I have called Vodaphone and their response is we have no current plans to boost coverage in your area. In this day and age, thats really not good enough. Vodafail is a great tag. Good on you for coming up with it. I hope that this site puts the wind in Vodaphones sail and gets them actively supporting service. Thanks.

I was using vodafone broadband internet (mobile). About June this year I started experiencing drop outs and couldn't reconnect. I then called customer service. This happened about 10 times before I got an Egyptian call centre who recommended that I return the modem for a refund! They gave up helping.
I then joined Crazy John. I was unaware that these guys used the Vodafone network. This time it was worse as I got a phone contract aswell. BIG MISTAKE! The problems started right away. 50 calls to custimer service and hundred of drop out or no coverage later Crazy John vodafone called me on Christams Eve admitting that I was in a Low Coverage area (postcode 3041) AND I was being rleased from my contract!! AVOID VODAFONE AVOID CRAZY JOHN. I was so angry that I passed a vodafone store full of people and yelled in there "Don't do it, don't join. These guys a liars and they provide S#!* service!" I have been using vodafone for about 5 or 6 months now and i have come to realise making the switch to them was not the best idea. I made the switch because of their great cap plans and good deals in which they offered, not realising, the coverage they had was very poor. Since I have switched to them, I would say it has been at least once a week where the signal would cut out for at least a few hours. I know it is not just my phone because I have friends within the same town that have experienced the same thing at the same point in time. I am also becoming annoyed at the usage of the internet on my phone and the either slow speeds, "timing out" or "no response" messages I keep receiving when using the feature quite regularly. If I am keeping to the contract, then why aren't they, by supplying me with a problem free and consistent service signal?

I've been a 3 customer ever since they started up here in Australia and, after the amalgamation of the 3 Hutchison and Vodafone companies, I pretty much assumed the coverage would be as superior as 3's - Boy was I wrong. I started a contract on the new Xperia X10 with Vodafone only to find that my phone likes to randomly switch itself on and then off - This can happen a dozen times, one after the other or until I take out the battery. I called for tech support on their Customer Hotline and instead of talking with Vodafone they patch me straight through to Sony Ericsson's Tech Support, who then tell me that I need to call Vodafone. After this happening several times I ended up wandering over to a Vodafone store and they tell me that I need to call Vodafone. Heh. I have a contract with Vodafone and paying for phone insurance YET instead of helping me with an issue THEY need to resolve I get palmed off to another company who have no idea why I'm calling them.

The issue with coverage is a joke. Most of my mothly cap goes towards romaing data charges, who cares if I'm on an unlimited plan. I have to worry about being charged 20 odd cents per MB of data that isn't included in the plan. I live in an inner city suburb and at home I'm always roaming. I can rarely send or receive MMS' and the call quality is disgusting, with occassional drop outs, due to the reception clicking in and out of 3G - Sometimes I have no reception at all, but this isn't a major issue with me. I still have my 3 phone, thank God, and I tend to gravitate towards that most of the time.

Final summation: Don't get sucked in to their awesome plans! When it's too good to be true, it almost always is.

5749 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Atrocious at 28 Dec 2010 04:29:21 AM
I spent two hours, 3 weeks ago, in a Vodafone store in Chatswood with a very helpful customer service guy(thanks Gareth). I was there due to the ongoing appalling level of reception in metro Sydney and the fact that I could no longer send emails from my iPhone 3GS. He spent two hours on the phone with his own fellow Vodafone staff, knowing the very best way to short cut the usual call centre traps and delays and he still got absolutely nowhere!!! I am totally reliant upon my ability to send email from my mobile. I run 3 different business email accounts from that phone and now I can't trust the email service at all. What is most concerning.....and I'm sure is being experienced by many other Vodafone customers is that when you send an email from your mobile, it actually appears in your "Sent Box" as s sent message. The scary thing is that your email NEVER arrives to the intended receiver. You believe you have sent an email, but it NEVER ACTUALLY ARRIVES!!!
This is incredibly frustating and that's before I even get onto the shocking call drop out rate I have been experiencing over the last 3 months. I live in Balmain, 5 minutes from the largest CBD in the country and I can't hold on to a call. I can also identify a minimum of 3 dead spots or drop out zones (guaranteed to fail) in a 5km drive from Balmain to Sydney CBD. How much of a joke can this be??

I have been a very loyal fan of the Vodafone brand for over 15 years, but I am now reaching breaking point. I am doing my best to avoid going to Telstra and would never consider Optus. Vodafone.....your time is running out FAST.

I live in Vic Park,an inner city suburb of Perth and often have low signal strength, due,I suspect, to Vodafone overselling phones and failing to upgrade its network.About a year ago I rang the Telephone Industry Ombudsman wanting to know if they monitored the Vodafone network utilisation(greater than 100% utilisation is bad) and they said NO.

I was in Power Industry and low voltage complaints were monitored by a Regulator, who demanded fixes, the same is needed for telco's.TIO gave me reference number of my complaint and told me to talk to Vodafone. When I did and quoted TIO number they told me that yes,the local network was "voverloaded" and an upgrade was in progress, but could not give delivery date.

My contract expires in July 2011,then I go to Telstra or Optus(have friends on both and they are happy, better coverage).

5733 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 3rd Word Service Levels at 28 Dec 2010 03:17:43 AM
I have four services connected for work, their data network is unusable with download speeds that slow they don't registered in speediest sometimes. SMS messages delivered over an hour after they were sent. They must have lowered the power of their cell site as I now have extremely poor reception where I live.

Network dropouts when in direct line of sight of the nearest tower, never reception in majority of kings cross venues, wasn't able to recieve calls for a job multiple times, girlfriend thinks I'm avoiding her.. I demand some kind of compensation.
28 Dec 2010 03:35:26 AM: "I demand some kind of compensation"

We are all demanding some kind of compensation!!!! this service is not what any of us signed up for. Either pay up or let us leave our contracts without fees.

only been on plan for a month i wish this had happened sooner..3g data for web is unusable it is so slow and i live 1 kilometer from city..cannot get wifi on htc desire hd 90% of the time..my flatmate gets it ok with i4 optus phone..any long distance call is terrible and is not full duplexing so we must take it in turns speaking if we both make noise it cuts out..i am stuck with 2 year plan it is obvious they have not invested properly in their network infrastructure and is the case with all technology where shortcuts have been taken failure occurs
28 Dec 2010 03:13:19 AM: If you are not happy with the level of service Vodafone promised, compared to what they are delivering then go to the ombudsman and get the hell outta that plan... don't take no for an answer. fight the long fight, you are no longer alone in this battle.

5723 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 99% at 28 Dec 2010 02:30:56 AM
I live in an Keperra, an area that has been around for quite some time here in Brisbane. I have had a contract for 18 months and that entire time, I have not had reception at home. It will float in and I will get an SMS, but if I try and reply, the reception fails and I have to go for a walk along the road to send it. Same for phone calls... People think I am ignoring them but the phone doesn't ring because it doesn't connect.

Mobile internet is a farce. I try to search for something a browser on my phone and but can take forever and that's when I'm in the Brisbane CBD. I used to have Vodafone in NZ when it was good, in Australia, it's just crap. I have 6 months more to endure in my 2 years contract and then I am out of here.

AJ - Keperra

5722 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is ENORMOUSLY FAIL at 28 Dec 2010 02:29:44 AM
I was one of those noisy customers who complained to the ombudsman. And was released from my 24 month contract with 23 months remaining. Still, this was no easy task. Initally my phone was set up incorrectly and the number only 1/2 ported. Not being the phone guru I can't supply full detail but I was left with no phone for about 48 hours. I did buy a telstra prepaid card to call "Lara" who told me too many times int he 45 min average on hold that I was important and my call would be answered shortly. Eventually that issue was sorted. - then my usb inter. net and phone reception went - same time, same day. More chats with Lara - only to be told eventually it must be my sim. Funny - 2 at once! More trips to the store where the staff just get to ring Lara.
This is a super abreviated version - It was too long and boring and orderal - but NEVER AGAIN VODAFONE. Note that my reception issues were in Port Melbourne. under 5 km from Melbourne CBD. At least I escaped!
28 Dec 2010 02:38:36 AM: unfortunately stories like this are long and could take up hours of writing... but this IS the place to air your grievances, I've been reading 100's of stories and I can finally say to myself 'at least I'm not alone anymore'. vodafone actually made me cry one morning, it made me feel sick.

5716 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is What coverage? at 28 Dec 2010 02:25:00 AM
Vodafone coverage is so poor that they should be required to warn all potential purchasers that they will receive only minimal coverage and service with this carrier. To suggest that Vodafone offers a service that works - even in sight of Melbourne CBD - is misleading conduct. Trying to deal with them to end my prepaid contract was joke, made harder by the call dropouts as they tried to convince me to stay.
28 Dec 2010 02:29:47 AM: They are cost cutting left right and centre. I live less then 15km from Brisbane CBD and I get 1 bar of signal at best... what is this vodafone, a third world country? get ya act together already!

5715 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Complete at 28 Dec 2010 02:12:21 AM
I was using Vodafone for years for my mobile and when I got a laptop, I bought a donlge and signed up to Vodafone internet at the beginning of 2008. Now I was living in country WA and I knew it wasn't going to be perfect reception all the time but I was told that if my mobile received reception, then the internet would also. For the first year, it was satisfactory. It did cut out and was slightly slower but I was able to get my work done (I did some marketing consulting from a home office and was doing a Post-grad degree via e-learning). However, in the second year, it started cutting out completely and I rarely had reception, even on when I was in Perth, where the 3G network was supposed to be working. It was ridiculous. I tried calling to complain and get it sorted but was only offered a refund for one month. In the end, I only had a few months till my contract was up and chose to grin and bare the charge each month and instead went to a cafe with wifi twice a week for a few hours to get what I needed done. My contract ended and I did not renew and will never use Vodafone internet again.
5 Jan 2011 08:23:22 PM: i am feeling your pain, i also live in regional WA and vodafone was good here for the first 6 months, then the speed and service went downhill VERY quickly. Where i used to get HSDPA, i now get EDGE/GPRS and the drop outs are ridiculus... it has dropped out 6 times in 10 minutes and then it 'Conects' without problem...
i am going to ring vodafone on the 6th and see what it is, but if they say 'move around for service' i will be seeing red, and the person who told me that will regret it.
ok, 7 times dropout.
going telstra within a month

5713 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is MEGAFAIL! at 28 Dec 2010 02:10:50 AM
1)Constant drop outs, often running into double digits PER HOUR!! 2)Periods where the phone is "locked out" ie no one can call me (goes straight to voicemail) and I cant call out, despite full reception - I shudder to think what I would do if that occurred during an emergency! 3)Catastrophically delayed relay of voicemail messages, sometimes by as much as 24 hours! 4)Constantly slow or completely ineffectual 3G services. 5)I have lost business, looked unprofessional in front of clients & been extremely inconvenienced by all this. All I get is ineptitude and the infuriatingly ineffectual Lara when I call to complain. What am I paying in excess of $100 a month for? I will leave and NEVER come back once my contract is done, and I am telling every client, associate, friend and family member just how pathetic and woeful Vodafone have become.

5712 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Left the network at 28 Dec 2010 02:07:56 AM
Vodaphone customer service is just as useless in NZ, they sold me a mobile phone and the opera browser on it didn't work, despite downloading the program again it still didn't work, having downloaded a few things off their site onto my phone and showing it to the Representative at the shop, they told me to reset the phone, the result was that it deleted everything off my phone, and when I said it didn't work and I lost everything their reply was near enough "sorry we can't help you, we can send it to the factory and it will cost $50 to look at it", not sure what it's like in Aussie. But I have left the network and its high call and data rates, and have never looked back, nothing but money leaches. :D

5711 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is poor network & coverage at 28 Dec 2010 02:06:54 AM
(Mobile)Poor network coverage. Bad reception and did not notify us when there will be an network shutdown for upgrade. (MOBILE BROADBAND) Get a ridiculous monthly bills. Was on cap mobile internet plan $49. I watch my data download. Even exceed the 6GB max allowance it could'nt have been $1100 for expense. I got charged 3 times that amount the last 2 years.$700 twice last year. No way i could use $1000+ a month for data. Have to call up all the times to clear it out. How stupid can vodafone's PC gets? Fix it fix it and stop telling me it will not happen. It did again! fix it!
28 Dec 2010 02:53:45 AM: OMG this is happening to me right now (not to that extreem though).. Vodafone said they will not refund my over usage even though it is Vodafone systems that are crashing and causing me to not see my data usage ANYWHERE. frustrating is just the beginning of how they make me feel.

vodafone, drops out at traffic lights, red light cameras, speed cameras, nil reception inside the home, have to walk the streets find reception. all began for me about four to six weeks before christmas last year and got worse since. i find bad weather is good for my reception, sometimes to the point that it does not drop out where in fine weather it is guaranteed to drop out.security cameras nock it off signal. within fifty meters of the phone tower and still lousy reception, too close you think. not so drops out a klm or more 98% guaranteed. two cans and a piece of string would give a better reception. before christmas last year i had great reception and it is as if they cut the signal strength by more than half. a job for Kevin 07 to issue refunds and a new phone for pain and suffering

bought a prepaid internet connection from vodaphone over 18mths ago. The sales rep that sold it to me told me it was fast and reliable and when i asked her if my area had got coverage and telling her where i lived (which is less than a km away from that particular store) she convincingly assured me i would have "great" reception, she then went on to say that a new tower was being built right in my area so if i had trouble it would definately be perfect in a month or so which must be some BS line they try and sell you with. No tower has been put up, and after going back again and again i am told there is nothing that can be done about my bogus buy. Shame on you Vodafone i hope you feel good about ripping off a single mother with 4 small children, 1 of whom is autistic and loves playing learning games on the net designed for his needs. It cuts out half way through and he has a meltdown. 3G ?? what is this i cant get it!!! can only get 1 or 2 bars of GPRS at best, unless i hold my laptop up near the roof and i get 3bars of GPRS whoop-dee-doo!! its so slow its too frustrating to use!!

5703 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is so fail I am considering breaking out the old cans-and-string at 28 Dec 2010 01:55:46 AM
Seriously, It seems like this network is actually getting worse! How many new towers have been constructed over the last couple of years? My guess is none, in fact I think they may have knocked a few down. I regularly catch trains and buses, and on my regular journeys (mostly between Brisbane and the gold coast), at least 60% of the trip is completely no reception, 75% is completely no data reception, and 90-95% is zero bars and extremely poor to no data reception.

I can't take it any more. I get zero bars in my own home, in an inner Brisbane suburb. These are not 'intermittent issues being experienced lately' as Vodafone likes to think, the network is just shit, and is not built for modern phones. It needs serious dramatic improvement before I will consider renewing any contracts, and I already feel very mislead and ripped off.

no reception in my home (wollstonecraft), no reception at work (city), no lines to call anyone between the hours of 830-930am and 430-630pm, 3G data slower than GSM when 3G is switched off, 1-2 day lag in receiving voicemails, voda not willing to compensate for poor service - they told me to replace my sim which was only 6 mths old, and now the service is even worse than it was before i did that! paying $74 a month for an iphone 3gs which i can now get for $45 on an unlimited plan - such a rip off!

I was with Vodafone a few months ago, I barely ever had reception with 3G turned off, when I turned 3G on, I was lucky to even have a bar.

As soon as my contract was up I went over to Telstra and since then I've never been below 4 bars, both with 3G on and off.

I thought it was quite funny when Vodafone sent letters asking to resign with them before the contract term was up.

Purchased a brand new Nokia from Vodaphone 3-4 months ago -after giving my old phone away which was again Vodafone thinking its the phone that had the problem. Same problems. NOT JUST ME WITH THE NEW VODAFONE BUT MY HUSBAND AND MY DAUGHTER - HUNDREDS $$$$$ WE PAY EVERY MONTH. Thank goodness for this site but i doubt anyone will listen - talking to ourselves as usual - I guess it is better than having to wait for someone to answer the Vodafone customer service line - or maybe they cant hear it ringing due to reception they are experiencing - with the average waiting time we experienced is no less than 25 minutes... At least we know now its not our phones that have the problem and we can now change provider.
VERY DISAPPOINTED and Extremely angry - the least they could do is answer the phone and tell everyone they have issues - rather than have everyone suffer and pay. Good luck to all of us fools just write it all down and at least we now know - we are not alone...

Depending on the weather conditions... We have either no or very limited vodafone reception when at home. If we need to use our mobiles we have to walk up the street 500mtrs to higher ground and away from the trees in order to use them. On a good day the mobile will ring when at home but to answer we have to run around outside to find a 1 bar only strength reception.
ALSO
Recently travelled to country Vic and Vodafone failed 20 klms north of Ballarat, no reception whatsoever for the week... Total crap and most frustrating.
