Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

7514 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 4 at 28 Dec 2010 06:49:29 PM
where do I start. Firstly the many sms messages that people send me and I don't receive till the next day. Continued phone drop outs. The most painful is when I try to ring up and complain I like obviously many other people are put on hold for at least half an hour at which point I hang up and try again. Once Lara stuffing understands what the heck I am ringing up about and gets me through to the correct department I am on hold again for at least half hour at which point I give up or if I do get on I get an operator that can't understand what I am talking about and that tells me there is no problem with the network. The last straw for me is my daughter has just changed her mobile over to telstra. And, what a surprise I can't ring her anymore because I am with vodaphone. She can't receive any calls or txts from, you guessed it! Anyone on vodaphone. But of course when I finally got on to vodaphone about it after an hour, it was teltra's problem. As soon as my contract is up Im moving over to another provider for good.

my partner and i dont have a mobile phone with vodafone, instead we opted for the wirless internet. when we signed our contract, the sales man assured us that even though the reception in cairns was not optimal at the time it would be upgraded to the same speed and reception of other wireless broadbands on offer from telstra and optus within 3 months of us signing the contract. after 6 months and no upgrade we went back into the store, and they assured us that the upgrades were coming, that they had just been delayed, and that they should happen within the next 2 months. it has now been nearly 2 and a half years and our service still has not improved at all. if we are lucky we have about dial up speed. that is if we have a signal, and if the reciever doesnt forget that it is plugged in, (and my personal favorite) or we have reception and a device, but we have no upload or download speed, so the whole thing is useless. we have contacted vodafone by phone, and after being on hold for over an hour, i hung up. we contacted them by email, and recieved nothing, so finally we went back into the store, where the same man that sold us our contract and reassured us when we went back in to check on the progress of the upgrades, pretty much wiped his hands of us and said " too bad".

And if u think all of this is bad, u havent heard the best part. our contract was up at the end of august 2010. just before the end of the contract we contacted vodafone to inform them that we would not be renewing the contract. thinking that it was all said and done, we signed a new contract with telstra. appox 4 months down the track, we are informed by my partners bank that vodafone is still taking its direct debit each month, so we check and sure enough our device is still activated and working. the contract never ended. thinking that it must have been some kinda mix up, we go into the same cairns store (as there is only one in town) and ask them to not only end the contract, but stop the direct debit and refund our money that they have illegaly taken. (this is where it gets good) to which we were told that they dont have a clue which is our contrac as there is over 20 contracts for wireless internet in cairns issued with the same name as my partner, so not only could they not cancel the contract, they could not stop the direct debit and they could not refund the money essentially stolen. after another month of fighting with the company and getting no where, we cancelled our telstra contract as we can only afford one lot of internet a month, and we are stuck with this shit until someone pulls there fingers out and fixes the problem
28 Dec 2010 07:16:57 PM: Next time contact your bank and explain the situation and cancel the direct debit authorisation :)

7512 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very Fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:49:03 PM
I live on the Central Coast and in parts of my home i just simply cant get reception. I work as a driver in the Hunter Valley and 90% of the time i cant get reception. That means my clients have to leave messages for me, then when i get a few bars of reception i then have to call them back..... That cost me money! I am stuck in this contract until September 2011. I have been told by Vodafone that they are improving signals now for over 12 months and still nothing has changed. I've given up trying to call and complain because i can never tell "LARA" what exactly i want and i always get put onto the wrong department anyway. I cant wait until September 2011, i will be dropping Vodafone like a hot potato. In the last 12 months many of my friends have told me that they are looking at updating their phones and every time my advise to them has been... No matter what, stay away from Vodafone, they are totally Useless and thankfully, they have all listened. Anyway, thanks for the means for the "steam blow off" You guys are doing a good thing. Kind Regards Joe

7510 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EXTREMELY at 28 Dec 2010 06:48:52 PM
So, living in Parramatta (only 3o mins from the Sydney CBD) i would have thought that reception and service would go hand in hand and that both would be exceptional, being that i live in the biggest city in Australia, oh how wrong ive been! Since commencing with Vodafone (after Optus screwed me over) i was assured that Vodafone was the company that could provide me with a great plan with generous limit ($139 unlimited cap) and outstanding service and reception. How wrong i have been! I signed a 24month contract (standard for the Telco industry) and have rued the day i contacted Vodafone. Since day 1, April 2010, i have never been able to use voicemail, even though i have been assured that it has been activated on my phone, which was great when i was in a dead end job and looking for another one! No voicemail, meant i had to continually call back numbers i didnt know! On top of this, my actual reception has been nothing short of sub standard. When i have 3G, i still may only have 2 or 3 bars of reception! I have contacted Vodafone on numerous occassions and have been assured that there was a "know issue in Sydney and it will be fixed shortly". So this must be a massive issue if its still persisting! As an avid iPhone user i have a large number of apps, which i use most daily, and yet being that reception is low or non-existent they take forever to load. Again i have contacted Vodafone and was told "theres no issues in your area, it must be you. There is no problem with out network". Well thanks for that India, but im sure that constantly resetting my phone and wanting to launch it off my sixth floor balcony means that there is an issue, but thanks anyway. So, this was after waiting on hold for 45mins! Then i was transferred from the technical team to the sales department. This time the young girl i got was actually able to speak english and actually understood what my problem was. Halelujah i thought, but when i asked if i could upgrade i was told that this was not possible as i was in a contract! So yeh, fun! Again i was told there was nothing wrong with the network or my phone, but if i felt the need i could purchase another handset! Yeh right!!! So, all care and no responsibility! I pay for a service that im really not getting. How is it Vodafone can afford to sponser the cricket (and the Australian teams performance is just as dismal as the Vodafone network) but can't fix the network that their millions of customers are forced to pay for. Service....i dont think they know what that word means!!! So, after many calls to Vodafone and nil result and still the poor service and reception im glad that finally the consumer has a way of being able to vent about what we are being forced to pay for! Im sure if i didnt pay by bill on time, Vodafone would be pretty quick to take action and disconnect my service!

I have been with vodafone for many years, and have had intermittent problems in NDW and now in Qld.
I received a Blackberry Storm last year through Vodafone - no signal in my house, out the front or in my street and very limited elsewhere. Change to Nokia E71, slightly better. Complained to Vodafone YET AGAIN, and was supplied with an iPhone. I don't get reception in my house. To call or send a message I have to go outside a d try for a signal. Many many drop outs. Receipt of text messages and phone messages days later. Too bad if there was an emergency! I have been to many different Vodafone stores with complaint and still nothing. I have a new iphone4 , but no reception, and no 3G

Places where I have not had reception

These are within the last 8 months and are from memory due to it leaving an imprint on my mind....

- Tathra (NSW)on holidays - whilst it may seem ok we had a fire in the van and needed to call out - awesome....
- Nowra - large portions that included my house in a residential area on the northern side and my work on the southern side
- Canberra (Northside and southside)numerous areas - mainly when trying to talk to my wife who works shift work and walks to her car in a poorly lit area at night and tries to call me so I can make sure she gets to her car safely...
- Wagga Wagga - anywhere outside of the main residential area
- Hume Highway outside of Sydney and Melbourne - what about if a car accident occurs in the majority of this highway - hopefully someone stops to help... and has "another providers" phone
- Western Australia - basically anywhere outside of Perth - which when there is no cars on the road ie. one every hour or so if you are lucky, a dual flat tyre and no phone is not that flash - not that much water around out there....

network covers 98% of Australia hey...... must be anywhere I don't go then

Hey guys this is nothing new for Vodafone. I was with Vodafone 12months ago and was experiencing the same coverage problems. After numerous calls to them I was getting nowhere until I contacted the Ombudsman. My contract at the time was only a couple of months old. Vodafone told me I couldn't cancel it without paying the balance of the contract, but after contacting the Ombudsman they soon changed their mind and I was able to get out of Vodafone, never to return. I know what everyone is going through, best of luck on any actions taken.

Calls would drop out to my daughter. I would ring with network bar on phone showing full network coverage however call would go to message bank. I complained many times to vodaphone and wasted countless hours waiting to talk to someone. Vodafone finally said it was a handset problem. Six months out from my contract ending they said i could get a new phone and sign up for another 24 months. Of course I would have to pay break costs. You guessed it my new phone has exactly the same problems, call drop outs, painfully slow data. They knew the problems and always denied it. They blatently sucked me in to another fucking 24 months with them. I feel cheated and will NEVER sign with vodafone again. I'm taking this further.

Very disappointed with the coverage, i live in townsville and often have little or no reception, phone breaking up whilst on calls, message to say i have voicemail when i dont. I run a plumbing business and i cannot afford anymore of this very poor coverage. When driving out off town to cairns have no reception all the the way to cairns, this is not 98% of the country coverage. Vodafone you have lost my business for good.

I was on prepaid and never had a problem, then I switched to a plan with my new phone. Now I can't talk to people in my house, I need to go into the backyard. Plus my internet on my phone doesn't work half the time, I am restarting my phone several times a day. I had a broadband usb stick and it was worse than unwired and dodo! I called them several times, being on hold for an hr each time and after a week of 'investigating' they said there was nothing they could do about it. I returned it and now have blink which is run by optus and it is very fast. Oh and I live in Newtown so right near the city, and still no coverage.

I am a 3 customer which I believe is now owned or in business with Vodafone. I live in Clayfield and when I drive into my garage or even move around in my unit talking on my phone It drops out. 3's answer is it's the IPhone that is causing the problem. They tell me to turn off my phone andthat should fix it. It is also extremely frustrating not being able to speak to someone in Australia. The call centre is in India, they all say the same thing when u call and it's not getting any better. While typing this the network dropped out. Grrrrrrrrr.

7477 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Couldn't return Modem at 28 Dec 2010 06:38:09 PM
I had zero Broadband coverage in a 'full service' and attempted to return the modem the following day after 2 hours talking to India. 3 trips to the local dealer and 4 hours on the phone being shunted around and I was finally sent a return envelope which went the day it arrived. Bills kept coming ...more trips and phone calls. I was then accused of NOT sending it back. I had to prove with a receipt the package had been sent. Vodafone finally cancelled my account but we still get statements saying they owe us money. They lost me and everyone I know very quickly.

7472 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Extreme Fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:37:24 PM
I dont know where to start!!! I have contacted Vodafone that many times I have lost count in this month alone. I have had continual problems with my phone from having no service to limited service whilst remaining in the same place. I have frequently been unable to call from my phone without having to switch it off, take the battery out and put in back in and wait for it to restart itself which takes anywhere from 1 min to 5 minutes all just to make a phone call even then more often then not after attempting to call I will hear those annoying three tones and " call failed" pops up on the screen. This is happening more and more. Again with service problem, trying to send text messages takes at least three attempts for it to go through and for those attempts that are unsuccessful I am given the alert "equipment failed" - thats an understatement!! and a further service complaint, as part of my contract I am entitled to 50MB of internet usage/downloads and for months this has been compromised and only working occasionally but as of the last three weeks I have completely lost internet access with a message appearing saying "A communication failure has occurred. The server may be busy, please try again later. If the problem persists please contact your service provider." - good luck with that!!! Not to mention the day i was doing the dishes and heard the artificial camera sound as though someone was taking a photo, being home alone i found this quite disturbing... my phone had started taking pictures all on its own and i was unable to stop it doing this, i couldn't turn the phone off so the only way to stop it was to take the battery out, in which case my husband was unable to contact me being that my mobile is my only phone in the house, i turned my phone back on some time later to find it was till doing the same thing... we have video footage of this on my husbands phone. all of the above has been extremely frustrating and having being into Vodafone shops to asks for assistance and yet not gotten anywhere with it has made it even more frustrating. I was told that they could not send it away because at the time that i had the phone in the Vodafone store they workers in there shouldn't "see" anything wrong with the phone. the second time i went in to the store to have my phone fixed they told me they couldn't offer me a "loan phone" as they didn't have any left therefore sending my phone away would have left me completely phoneless... not an option for me and considering i am still paying $79 a month (actually $88.98 includes phone insurance... fat lot of good it was getting insurance!!) i dont think it is fair to be still paying for something that is either sent away for two weeks or is not working.

But the straw that broke the camels back was 4 weeks ago when my father had a heart attack i was unable to use my phone, i had to travel interstate and was unable to contact my husband and immediate family on my travels. This only added to the upsetting circumstances. So on return home from visiting my ill father I rang Vodafone and requested to either end my contract or have my contract upgrade in attempt to get a phone that works, initially i was offered and 50% deduction on the early upgrade fee meaning that i would have to pay ~$150 to be able to upgrade my phone. i don't know about anybody else but there is no way i am going to pay MORE money to get a phone that works when I am already paying $88.98 a month for something that is not working... seriously. I was then put through to the manager of loyalty and i explained all of the above and he assured me that I have every reason to be upset with the service is have received and that he would enable me to be upgraded and that I would receive a new handset in 7-10 days and that this should fix the problems I have being having. Given that I made that phone call 0n 5th Dec 2010 and I had still not received my new phone on the 20th of Dec I started to get quite annoyed, however I did receive a phone call from Vodafone and told that if I paid my "overdue" bill then my upgrade could be started to be process... so yes nothing had been done for those two weeks obviously.

As for the supposed "overdue Bill" (that wasn't overdue) this had been paid 4-5 days prior but their system had not updated it. I explained that I was extremely disappointed that it had not been processed earlier and that I expected this to be done right there and then as I had already been quite patient and still had a phone with poor service and that wasn't working properly. He assured me that this would be attended to. I was then called a day or two later ringing to let me know that they had received the payment of my bill and that they could now process my upgrade.. obviously this still day not been done and for the third time in three phone calls I corrected my postal address with them. After all of this I came to the conclusion that I was obviously not a valued customer and I would ring and speak with the manager and let them know how disappointed I was and inform them that I wish to cancel my dealings with Vodafone... the reply I received when I told them this was "Well I find this very disappointing"..... they find it disappointing????? I have given Vodafone every chance to keep me as their customer and have been paying for something that has not worked according to its contract agreement. THAT is disappointing!!!!

But after speaking with the Loyalty manager i was told that there were too many calls in the line for the cancellations department for me to speak with them at the time and that she would make sure they called me back within 24-48 hours..... AND.... OF COURSE I still haven't heard from them six days later. I called them yesterday, that being three days after i was told i would hear from them by and informed that the cancellations department was closed and would be reopened on Wednesday that being tomorrow. Calling them tomorrow morning will be the first thing I do.

You know the reason I was with Vodafone was because I was told that they had the best customer service over and above other Telecompanies, let face it, it definitely wasn't because it has the best service network!

But of course when I signed up i was "Guaranteed" that the service will only get better.... I would have to DEFINITELY have to disagree!!! It has only gotten worse and given that Vodafone has proven me wrong in thinking that they had good customer service i am left believe that Vodafone as a company has absolutely nothing left to offer!!! Very Disappointed... Thank you for reading my novel titled "Pure Vodafail"

my problems wirh voda.........dropped calls all the time , extremely slow or nil data rates, had to complain to the tio numerous times to sort out billing issues as their "1555" customer care number never connects due to coverage issues ( for example one day I called 47 times only to get one connected call at 5pm ) mms msgs go astray but I still get charged, my friends constantly complain my phone is off when it actually isn't , I watch voicemails come through even though my phone is on and shows alleged coverage. fun times indeed - 4225

Don't get coverage when inside my own home, even when i have had Telstra & Optus friends there and they have full coverage. Calls drop out and i don't get them. Even when moving outside it takes about 20 minutes to pick up reception and even then it is not full coverage. Will not be staying with them very poor service.

Being on call 24/7 with a Marine Rescue Unit and living just 8.5kms from Brisbane City, on the South side, you would think you would have more than 2 bars at any given time around the house. It's easier for my crew to drive 5 minutes to knock on my door, than it is to try and contact me by vodacrap. If someone leaves a message, it can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 11 hours for me to receive the message, if you can understand was is texted through to me from vodacrap. After speaking to the person who left the message with vodacrap, it appears vodacrap should enter "chinese whisper" competions.
The boss at work made the mistake of giving a vodacrap computer stick for work related use. The joke being, it very rarely works at home, and after being charged 3 times on my credit card, within a five day period for internet connection, i made the mistake of trying to contact the infamous costumer service department on the mobile. After 6 phone calls, and five dropouts on the mobile, then spending 53 minutes on hold to India, explaining 4 times the problem and being passed to 3 departments, they have assured me a refund within 10 working days. Thank god i had extra funds available in the account.
7 years of vodacrap in 2 different cities and Brisbane is actually worst for reception than Darwin. Have an appointment Telstra on Thursday afternoon. Fingers crossed their any better

i live in cairns, and my partner and i dont have a mobile phone with them, instead we have wireless internet. when we signed up for it over 2 years ago, we were assured that within 3 months of signing our contract, that the upload and download speed would increase to that of broadband offered by optus and telstra. well here we are nearly 2 and a half years later and it is almost the same speed as dial up, that is if the thing can find a signal, or if it doesnt forget that it is plugged in, or the best one is when u have a signal, it recognises the reciever, but u cant do anything cause there is no uploads or downloads. at the best of times we have poor to no reception and if the sky is even over cast, then kiss ur internet goodbye. the best bit about this whole story however has to be our contract. our contract was up at the end of august last year, so we contacted them and told them we were not renewing it, instead we were going with telstra, after having a conection with telstra for approx 4 months, we realised that vodafone were still taking money via direct debit, and that the service was still connected. so we contacted them again, this time we went into the acctual store where we signed the original contract, thinking they could fix it up. after standing around for nearly 30 mins waiting for the guy sitting at the desk to actually see us and ask if we needed any assistance, he preceeds to tell us, that there is over 20 ppl in cairns with wireless internet with my partners name and that he cannot just find him and fix the problem. in the end we had to cancell the contract with telstra cause we couldnt stop the payments on vodafone and we couldnt afford too, and there doesnt seem to be and end date to when they will stop charging us

7459 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Mind blowing fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:35:51 PM
I signed up with them then when about to travel overseas, wanting international roaming turned on, thats all i was after.
while sitting at the airport waiting for my plane, I called the "customer service" line after 50 mins on hold my plane was boarding and had to hangup, going overseas without phone coverage.

Then, 3 months later when moving overseas i tried again, firstly going to a vodafone store, they told me they call the same number I do and may have to wait several hours.
So I though id just try again when at the airport. after over 1 hour on hold in the first attempt, then another 40 mins on hold an hour later ( had to hangup cause we moved areas and lost signal)

So now that I moved to newzealand, I emailed them (finally hunted down an address from their mess of a website.)
I told them i want to cancel my contract because of the horrid service.
They email me back stating they will send my final bill, they did, i got it in newzealand, but thought it's paid via direct debit.

Now the fun part.

8months later i move back to Australia, after no further contact from vodafone, not via the email address or actual post( I know they've got my address, i got the one letter)

I am greeted with a debt collection notice for $130 that when I call vodaphone they put me straight to the debt collectors office as soon as I give my details, not even telling me I'm bring transferred to a different company.

So i pay the bill, but afterward find out that I now have a flag on my name and nearly missed out on getting a home for my family because of a $130 debit.

No one at vodafone ever got back to me to clear my info or to let me ask why i was not contacted further regarding this outstanding amount.

I'll never go back to vodafone, not for ANY reason.
30 Dec 2010 06:03:25 PM: That sounds like a big load of shit. "Oh I am going overseas; might just leave it until I am about to board the plane to put international roaming on." Think about shit before you type it, internet warrior.
7 Jan 2011 09:11:26 AM: You are correct, a Telco default for even $130 can cost you a LOT more than the initial amount disputed in money, lifestyle and lost opportunity which you will never be compensated for. Telco defaults on people's CRAA's are one of the most common form of listings, damaging, and amongst the most expensive to remove, though the success rate is around 80%. Let me know if you want some assistance to try and remove it. PH

Vodaphone's response was basically TOO bad SOO sad, the only alternative offered to me was to cancel the contract after the 2 years, even though I have only been able too use there service for ONE WEEK. 100% COVERAGE TOTAL CRAP!!!

Mine happened in 2008 and I've been with Telstra ever since. I had just signed a 2 year contract with a wonderful slide up phone. I was very excited. 2 weeks later I found out that had a job in a place called Doomadgee (Northwest Qld in the Gulf of Carpentaria). Vodaphone had absolutely no coverage here. I asked them what I could do (I had been with Vodaphone for 9 years - a very loyal and productive customer...)and I wanted to come back to my old number after my country service stint was up. I really didn't want to lose my number or the phone. They didn't care and I had to pay an $800 fee and keep paying the contract out for 2 years on the lowest possible plan. Of course, I will never go back and I have got used to my new number!!!!! Just get the hell out as cheaply as possible...they don't care.

With Vodafone for mobile - delays in receiving voicemail, and picture texts, repeated failure to be able to send picture texts, difficulty with connection, coverage drop out.
Vodafone for internet - was concerned signing up about quality of broadband available in Hobart. Was assured it was great coverage at my location. After a year the best connection status I have had is 'poor', nearly always status is 'very poor', constantly disconnects, have to reattempt multiple times to reconnect and connection we have is far slower than dial up we had years ago.
28 Dec 2010 07:04:24 PM: The only place you can decent data reception in Hobart is at Kingston parked outside the gates of the VF call center.
28 Dec 2010 08:14:37 PM: actually that's crap too. Down the road on Algona there is a MASSIVE black spot with totally ZERO coverage... just around the corner from the call centre. Works fine inside the building I bet!
28 Dec 2010 08:55:33 PM: Before they officially turned 3G on down here you could get it from outside the call center and occasionally from Opossum Bay and it used to be pretty fast. Now it is just terrible.

I have tried to call through numerous times and as I only had my vodafone mobile for a while, everytime I would try to call the customer service my phone would cut out whilst on hold. Sometimes I would be on hold for a period of 2 minutes and my phone would cut out. Anyhow one day I finally got through, it only took 4hrs!!!! ON HOLD FOR 4 HRS!!!!! They told me they would call back, which they did on my mobile that I was calling about ( It has NO reception I told them) so needless to say I didn't get the message until days later when I was in town and my reception decided to work! I could go on and on, I am still in the process of fighting this with them, but they have admited to me that they have found that I do indeed NOT have any reception and left my hubby with a reference number for me to follow up. The thing is It is so stressful having to explain myself everytime and being put on hold for hours each time, who has the time for this.

I chose to use pay as you go Vodafone after returning from the UK where the coverage was great. Since returning to Australia and trying to use the service on the Sunshine Coast in QLD I rarely have any cover at home unless I walk outside, shut down my phone and turn it on again and I often only reveive text messages days after they have been sent to me. I wouldn't mind so much if I never got service as I would understand that I was in an area where reception was not available, but at times I do get messages and calls comming though (when the weather is ok and the wind is blowing in the right direction) so it makes little sense. I resent paying fees to re-charge as I rarely have the opportunity to use the total amount paid before the time period expires before I'm due to top up again.

Goood luck with your class action.

I got a new nokia n8 offline on a contract,
a week after i got it it crapped itself,
Tried ringing vodafone for 8 days before i finally got through and when i got through they kept re directing me and telling me to ring other numbers which was a joke,
They should have call centers in australia where you can talk to people who understand you,
Anyway after 8 days they told me to just take the phone to a vodafone shop which was 30 minutes away from me and i didn't have time to do this but i eventually did anyway after over 2weeks of a broken phone i finally got a new one replaced,
They are still trying to charge me for calls and stuff for the month even know i was without the phone for 2 weeks
Communications and service is pathetic need people to speak and understand English and not have to wait over an hour on the phone,
I have been with vodafone for 15 years but i think its about time i changed to a decent network,

Cant belive they have vodafone stores selling contracts in a town with little to no service. Even after talking to vodafone calmly about mabye waiving the fee to unlock the phone so i could use another provider , i had to call back about 7 times each time having to hold for hours to just solve the new problem of unlocking the handset. Finaly hours of my time and having to talk to superviser after superviser after superviser who each new nothing about my problem later and having to explain the whole mess from the begining each time the issue was resolved. My iPhone has 1GB of data plan but I am unable to make use of it because get charged for roaming even when I am at home. To get credit for this incorrect roaming changes I must watch my phone signal and when I see roaming I must immediately stop using the phone and call customer support. Not worth the trouble using this service.

So dont think its just voda thats shit house, every network has similar issues (see an example- http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1596511). and for those who go on optus is much better coverage and internet etc etc...newsflash- voda and optus share the same 3G towers in a majority of locations.

However, please, if u are heading to a store to rip into a sales rep about ur crappy coverage, please atleast do it in a nice way. we are much more willing to help out then whereas you start swearing and yelling instore etc...u will be put straight onto cust care and u can deal with an indian instead :)

The reception was crap, messages weren't getting through, calls were dropping out and even the phone was stuffing up constantly to the point where the whole screen would freeze or when you tried to type a message the screen would click multiple times and cancel everything you were doing. We got told that it happens and to deal with it when we confronted Vodaphone. After getting the embudsmen involved they offered us new phones which were to arrive the next day. It's been three weeks and we are still waiting.

7406 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is NOT AT ALL at 28 Dec 2010 06:26:00 PM
I've been a telstra customer for over 2 years and had nothing but bad issues to do with coverage, why is no one making a website and complaing about other networks within Australia. I trully do not understand this. PLease correct your blog, I find it also ridiculous and misleading that poeple can blog as many times as they want. Isn't that misleading information, because one person can create false alias and information.
28 Dec 2010 06:34:05 PM: Coverage issues are an ongoing mobile phone industry problem, across the world, I can bet you a million dollars at any given time on any network in the world people are having coverage problems!
28 Dec 2010 06:42:23 PM: Dear 7406 I dare you to switch to Voda!!!! Then you'll know why people here are furious!!!!!

I've tried all three carriers. I lasted 6 hours with Voda. Terrible reception blackspots in Melbourne CBD. Then I moved to Optus was happy with them until about two years ago when I got massive calls drop outs, slow downloads and really bad service. Switched over to the big blue monster two years ago and been surprisingly happy.

Contrary to vodafones map coverage which shows our entire area covered, we have to walk to the middle of our yard to call, takes up to 48hrs to receive sms, and 17 dropouts, all whilst on hold to vodafone. Can and string is looking more reliable right now.

7394 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is very poor at 28 Dec 2010 06:24:29 PM
I too am stuck in a contract that I would otherwise be happy with other than the poor coverage. I have been with Vodaphone for 15 agonising months and have become so used to the drop outs and no reception that I just let people to only ring my mobile as a last resort.

I tried to complain through the vodaphone website 12 months ago. It was a nightmare. They asked dozens of irrelevant questions and wanted to know dates and times of drop-outs. Obviously they thought I was being smart when I said 'constantly' and 'all the time'and then got nasty in their emails. After about 4 weeks they eventually said the issue was 'I was in a low coverage area'. Yay - something I already knew. I just gave up.

I'm a mother with 3 kids and one has eliepsy and one has type 1 diabetes so try to always be avaiaible by phone in case of emergencies. I just make sure they always have another number.

Good things about Vodaphone? You never go over your monthly limit because you never have access to phone service. Never has problems in highly populated areas (ie not the Adelaide hills)
28 Dec 2010 06:29:44 PM: i heard three was good until the vodafail takeover, so maybe this is the problem

i hardly have ANY reception anywhere. even in built up and fully developed areas such as University of QLD St Lucia, i am only able to get a maximum of 2 bars, and struggle to connect to 3G. constantly having to turn my phone on and off, since it randomly starts to display 'searching' out of the blue. so much for 98% coverage. i hardly believe that i always happen to be situated in the 2% of australia that doesnt have vodafone coverage. vodafone can blow me.

7376 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Very poor internet connection at 28 Dec 2010 06:21:43 PM
I have been a customer of Vodafone Prepaid Mobile Broadband for more than a year now. I thought there was a problem with our rental unit that's why my internet connection always dropping out till I tried the Telstra service last week and I watched the news yesterday about Vodafone poor service. I really thought that the problem was our apartment we are living in and we will still experience the same problem whatever broadband network we use.

I bought the vodafone mobile broadband for my wife's use in her studies and to get in touch with our families abroad. The Vodafone store staff in Sunnybank where I bought it said that they have good broadband reception in Algester area where we live so there's no problem using their service. On the first month, their service was not that poor but as the days went by, it became poorer and poorer which made me think that I had problem with the rental apartment unit we are living in. Everytime my wife has uni assignment, we just go out and drive to her sister's place which is 5 minutes away from our place to use their Bigpond broadband service because we cannot rely on our Vodafone service which keeps on dropping off. Till one of my friend dropped by last week bringing with him a Telstra prepaid broadband which I tried and worked well. So I immediately bought the following day a Telstra prepaid broadband which we are now using. The pain and shame of driving to my sister-in-law's place to use their broadband and staying their till midnight or later just to finish my wife's assignment is now over. From now on, we will never use Vodafone services anymore... JB

I am a disgruntled Vodafone customer. I have vodafone mobile and wireless internet connection. I have constantly had problems with the connection from being poor to no connection particularly on my internet connection. I have contacted Vodafone many times but they keep telling they have a good coverage in my area. I am paying vodafone for a service they have failed to provide. I want to get out but don't know how.

Difficult to even get coverage, then there are drop outs mid conversation. I recieve text messages & voicemail messages days after they are sent, and my contacts advise they recieve my messages days after they are sent, as well. When I text to ask for an account balance I get no reply, uncanny because I am constantly getting "check service" appearing on my phone. Lucky for me I am a prepaid customer - they lost me as an internet customer earlier this year, and they will also lose me as a telephone customer as well, the service is just not good enough.

7364 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is massive fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:18:39 PM
Though by their coverage map I should have top level reception, I rarely have any at all. To the point I had to go and get a land line for my home so that I could remain contactable.
Vodafone's explanation for this was that I was inside and they couldn't account for having a roof above me.
Even if this were acceptable, I still have the same problems when I'm out in the open...

7355 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is I cannot express it in words at 28 Dec 2010 06:17:00 PM
No coverage, calls dropping out, text messages arriving 50 times in a row or taking 12+ hours. Customer service does not exist, phone to call centre who are more interested in selling me an upgraded plan, then say, after 25 mins hold and 5 mins talking that they will put me through to someone who can help, after which the phone hangs up. Try online help, they WILL NOT answer, they keep sending authorisation checks which are completed but not understood or read, after several emails I get one back that says it has been 120 hours since they asked me to provide information which was supplied in each email I sent. I have left Vodafone for good and gone to Exetel. Good luck if you are with them, I hope you can get out of your contract.

I too am stuck in a contract for a phone service that I would be happy with - other than the coverage. I have become so used the the drop outs in service I just tell people to only try my mobile as a last resort. I live in a rural fringe area and all the other networks are consistantly fine.

Has anyone else ever tried complaining about the coverage? I complained on the website about a year ago and was asked so many questions about times and dates that it was ridiculous. Obviously 'all the time' and 'constantly' were not what they were looking for. They even got nasty in their reply emails. after about 4 weeks I got the response 'you are in an area of low coverage' yay. I already knew that!

Only 5 more months of my contract and I'm gone.

7350 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Absolutely at 28 Dec 2010 06:15:12 PM
After switching to Vodafone in August and within 4 weeks of using their network I knew I was in trouble. I have tried to call Vodafone since end of September 2010 and have had absolutely no success. The 1555 number is Moombai and they have absolutely no idea of how to fix the problem. When I try to explain that I have no service on my phone in MANY areas of the Gold Coast they cannot relate because they don't know the areas I am trying to explain.

I have been on the phone 5 times for over one hour each and with a promise of them "escalating" my situation and a call back within 5 days. Surprise, surprise never have I received a call back. Their solution was to manually search for a network each time!!!! Another solution pull my phone apart put it back together and turn it on - "What happens?" - NOTHING!!! Use my sons phone and maybe mine will come back on in a couple of days - uuum he is with Vodafone too.

I called the Australian line of 13588 (by accident) - and they too promised to escalate my problem and a call back within 5 days. The latest "5 day turn around call" expired on Thursday 23.12.10. Absolutely, positively get back to you - GUARANTEED! Yeah right!

1555 do not call you back and they keep you on hold for a minimum of 1 hour.

I know I have lost business due to the lack of service. I am on a 2 year $99 per month plan and am only 4 months into the plan. I can't use the "unlimited" access to the internet because there is no service. I don't have enough "bars" to make a call and can only text or email.

I reported my issue with TIO last Monday 20.12.10. I also lodged a compliant through Vodafone website on Monday with the promise of a response within 5 days which expired on Friday 24.12.10

I want OUT! And I want compensation for port out charges they were supposed to cover from the previous network of $1,500 - we have 9 mobiles between my husband and my business.

7349 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very unimpressed!! at 28 Dec 2010 06:15:02 PM
I signed up to a 24mth Iphone 4 contract. Took over 5weeks for my phone will arrive (When I was advised 2x weeks).
I then suffered for the next 4weeks with bad reception, calls dropping out, Messages not going throung, unable to send mms + sms, and poor internet access.
I basicly had a pretty phine but couldnt use it.
If i wanted to make a call i had to turn the phone off then back on and call some one. I couldnt answer a call with out it echoing or hearing noises.
I was on the phone to Vodaphone almost every day for 3 weeks, with reception issues
they sent me out a replacement phone twice as they kept saying it was a phone issue.
they even told me that they were running tests/ reports and saying that coverage was fine in my area/s.
I cancelled my contract due to poor/ lack of coverage. and told that i wouldnt have to pay a disconnect fee. low and behold 3 weeks later i recieved my last bill in the mail.. and i was charged for 2x phones and the disconnect fee of ending my contract 23mths early.
NOT IMPRESSED!!!
28 Dec 2010 06:26:33 PM: Graeme Samuel, chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), said the regulator was aware of the issues and was investigating them.
However, Mr Samuel disputed news reports from earlier this week that said customers were within their rights to break contracts with the telco. He said affected customers should first try to resolve the problem with Vodafone and then contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO).

on top of the phone drop outs and lack of reception, we have also been receiving sporadic phone bills - yes they arrive when they are due (of course, when they want money they do everything), but the amounts are varied considerably. Hubby and I are both on a $49 cap, which i think gives us around $310 worth to play around with, which none of us even come close to reaching and now we are getting bills that are $0 amounts, then you get a double bill and now a $500 odd bill!! What the???? Yet when you call someone, they just bum steer you onto some one else. I dont have that sort of money - i have just had twins and am not at work currently. Definately wont be going through vodafail again.
