26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

I use the $29 or $49 maxi cap. I live in poet code 4223 Currumbin QLD. and most of my call are are dropped so I have wasted most of my money. Here is what they said about it. NO refund no nothing!!!!

Response

Question: Vodafone coverage within Australia
Answer:
Australia:

Vodafone's GSM (2G) network covers up to 94.52%* of the Australian population. Our GPRS (2.5G) network covers 92% of the places you live and work in Australia. 3G available to 94% of the Australian population. Capital cities and larger regional centres operate on UMTS 2100MHz and smaller regional centres on UMTS 900MHz. 3G services are available in Vodafone's 3G areas - compatible device required. In metropolitan and some regional areas, Vodafone's 3G network operates on UMTS 2100Mhz. In smaller regional areas with Vodafone coverage, Vodafone's 3G network operates on UMTS 900Mhz. All 3G 900Mhz devices available from Vodafone are 2100Mhz compatible. However, not all 2100Mhz devices are 900Mhz compatible. Customers with 2100Mhz devices that are not 900Mhz compatible will experience GPRS (or Edge, where available) coverage in 3G 900Mhz areas. Slower speeds can be expected outside Vodafone's Mobile Broadband areas. Individual customer experience may vary - many factors affect access, capacity and speed. See www.vodafone.com.au/coverage for more details.

Important: While the highest standards are applied in preparing coverage maps, 100% mapping accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

There are a number of residences on the Gold Coast at Currumbin Beach 4223. That cannot get a strong enough signal to use mobile phones. The Houses and flats around no. 600 to 840 Pacific Parade Currumbin Beach experience mostly dropped out calls. Is there any kind off repeater that can be installed at a residence that boost the signal here in Australia? When I was living in Dubai they installed a cell phone booster in every apartment in our building.

What can be done please.

Question Reference #100813-000372

30 Dec 2010 07:35:59 AM: Having recently moved house, we too are facing a similar situation. Having a look at the coverage map, we may be on the border of a 'dead spot'. Not being a technician, but wanting to see if there is a possible solution, try looking at Comnet Solutions Aust Web site. They and a few others have external aerials and other products which mat assist. Again, I'm not qualified in this area, but I'm sure a phone call may point you in the right direction to see if it can be done and if it is cost effective. I will be speaking with these and other companies in the New Year, when people get back to work. The research has taken a considerable number of hours, mainly due to having to wait for Google to load and then "Time Out" errors, before actually getting on line. Yes, unfortunately I use a Vodafone Pocket WiFi, which is one of the most attractive $39/ month paperweights I have seen in years. Sometimes, (usually around 2-3 in the morning) it doubles as a Wireless Modem. Yes, I am frustrated by the poor quality of service from Vodafone on the data transfers. When living in Brisbane, the reception and speeds were generally adequate. There were, at times you could not get on the Net for days. I pay good money for a service that doesn't perform at the moment, so why shouldn't I have the right to take my business somewhere else? The Telco's, like the Banks (now that's another story) try to make it too hard to change. If I didn't like the way a garage serviced my car, I wouldn't go back, why should Telco's be different? Yes I do understand about the 'free' phone part. The more they spend on advertising about how good they are, generally means reality is the opposite.

8860 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Disapointed at 30 Dec 2010 06:19:02 AM
I have been the greatest advocate of Vodafone, even did work experience in their head office yars ago because they were the most customer focused operator who genuinely cared for their staff.

Now I find it impossible to defend my allegiance to them as I am constantly disappointed with their service and regret convincing others to use them.

My issues are coverage fluctuations in the same location, a lack of clarity on call rates (some are free while others seemingly in the same time frame cost a fortune). I am now deliberately late paying every bill. They can wait for me.
30 Dec 2010 06:31:18 AM: I used to tell people how wonderful they were too... They are now in the join at your own risk category.... Along side telstra!

8859 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is DISGRACEFUL at 30 Dec 2010 06:18:27 AM
i have all the same complaints myself, husband and son all signed up 5 weeks ago and got the Nokia 8 we have continued dropped calls or unable to make calls no range text messages going through nearly a day later at odd hours waking people the 3 of us have missed out on work after work trying to contact us and can't get through so they ring someone else making us miss out we have younger children at home who are unable to get in contact with us at work we give up trying to use the internet because it is so bad.I have not been picked up from railway station because i can't make call and then i send text but they don't get it I have continually contacted customer service who end up saying i will just put you on hold and of course then they cut me off i have been to the shop and they direct me back to customer service lines the thing that upsets us is we need phones for work and contact with our children whilst working and it is so upsetting that we signed up without knowing there was these problems no one told us and now no one wants to know you after you have signed up. We are new and very unhappy customers and want OUT OF THESE CONTRACTS so we can go to a network that can give us what we pay for SERVICE Shame on VODAFONE we are telling everybody do not go to VODAFONE and the main reason would be the customer service on top of the Network problems which just make you more angry with the situation we feel we have been sucked in to a big mess

8857 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Abysmal at 30 Dec 2010 06:13:54 AM
My Company had about 30 mobiles with Vodafone... recently the reception quality deteriorated and became so bad that almost all my staff complained and consequently we moved many to Telstra.
We all actually LIKE Vodafone, their staff are helpful and friendly and their 013 service is excellent. Most other Telco staff actually seem to dislike customers.
However, the big issue with Vodafone is their abysmal network....obviously there seems a level of technical incompetence within the Company that causes them to lose customers and goodwill, and customers lose too, having to move to the expensive monster Telstra if they want reliable reception..

8853 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very poor at 30 Dec 2010 06:08:12 AM
I have had a lot of issues with Vodafone, first of which when I ordered 2 USB Internet devices and was sent 1, but billed 4 times. After hours of hold, calling them back, and being promised twice to be called back (but was not), that was my first issue.

Second, I have just moved to Caroline springs and have noticed little to no coverage where I live (a metro area)... I have also been locked out of my account, even when it asked for my drivers license, I still have nothing. Then I get a $110 phone bill because I couldn't keep track of my usage. I tried to call and got a 'we are very busy call back later' message and nobody has replied to my 3 emails, first of which was sent in November.

I am asking them to be released from my contract so that I can go elsewhere. Not good enough
30 Dec 2010 07:37:26 AM: Don't ask to be released - Demand!!
30 Dec 2010 05:58:20 PM: Yeah, I have sent a quite a few emails now, one this morning with this message above demanding a response today otherwise I will contact the OB but have got nothing.

I have had it all. Call drop outs, three way conversations, reception fail, calling a particular person and the call is then connected to an unknown person, delayed standerd text and extreamly delayed picture messaging by at least four hours.

8849 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is No Reception at all. at 30 Dec 2010 06:02:10 AM
I was with Vodafone for several years without complaint, until I moved house. I could not get reception at all and made numerous calls to Vodafone only to be assured that I was in an area that had reception. Finally I had to go with another service and asked Vodafone if I could cancel my contract only to be told that it would cost me $380 to cancel. So I continued to pay $29 per month for the life of the contract. I recenly rang Vodafone to ask if I could cancel the contract now and was told that I would still have to pay a fee, even though I still cannot get reception. Seems like I am stuck until February paying $29 per month for a service I cannot use and have not used for at least 18 months. Maybe I am at fault for moving to an area without Vodafone reception, but according to the map on Vodafone site, the area is supposed to be covered.

8839 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Pre Paid Internet Coverage & Network Phone Service at 30 Dec 2010 04:32:23 AM
We have pre paid internet provision with Vodafone (for approx 12 months), the service is terrible, the signal is always weak. You can hardly ever get a signal? The service is appalling as it keeps booting you off.

We also both have pre paid mobiles with Vodafone (personal and business), the network coverage is disgraceful, calls continually dropping out, txt messages not going through. Or even worse txt messages going through hours later or multiple times.

Vodafone had great service and coverage 5,6 years ago. As time has gone on it has become worse, to the point were it cannot be called service and the coverage is crap these days. Despite complaining to vodafone all the time, there has still been no change to the service or coverage. Vodafone have so many excuses its not funny. The TIO was no help either it just made vodafone answer me a bit quicker, it still didnt resolve the problem.I am so glad you started this site, if i had known how to do this myself i would have done this years ago. THANK YOU.

Company I work for changed from Telstra to Vodafone a few weeks ago - over 800 mobile services - because Vodafone offered a cheaper corporate deal. Since then I and my colleagues have experienced frequent call dropouts and a lot of calls go straight to messagebank even though the handset isn't in use. To top it off the text to tell you there's a message waiting arrives a few hours later. This infuriates clients who expect a prompt response.
Coverage is poor but at least we expected that and data service is so slow as to be useless.

I've just been reading through all these threads and being a Vodafone customer I share your angst. I've been looking at other telco's and I'd suggest all iiNet customers (like myself) to have a squiz at their new mobile offers - I believe they use the NextG network so it's far superior. Only drawback is that you have to bring your own handset along, but if we're on here complaining about service we already have a handset lol.

Constant dropouts of my mobile broadband USB modem, got to the point of being unusable for months on end and all they did was offer $10 a month discount!Seems to be sorted now but wasn't usable for much of this year. I was assured I was using it in a very strong area but it does not connect on 3G network, only HSPDA so not as quick as it should be.

Almost ZERO coverage or reception anywhere i travel in Victoria, from Lilydale to Rye. I'm actually with Crazy Johns (Who use Vodafone's network for coverage) and when i signed up for 24 months!, i only did so on the basis that they assured me countless times i would have full coverage in both areas i travel and live in. This however has not been the case from day one! my friends say when they try to call me my phone always says it has no coverage or is turned off, I receive messages days after they have been originally sent (if im lucky!). Also being a student with very little expendable money i went through Crazy Johns (Vodafone) because they gave me a USB modem or Dongle, whatever you want to call it.. that i thought would be great and help me out with Uni work, but it has been COMPLETELY USELESS! i might as well throw it in the bin, id does not work at all, has a maximum speed of 7kb per second! (not even enough to load Google!) when they promised me BROADBAND SPEEDS! I feel completely ripped off and if i could break the contract i would immediately. Vodafone=F*kd! I want compensation.

8822 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is INTERNETS FAIL OVERSEAS ROAMING FAIL CALL CENTRE FAIL GENERAL FAIL at 30 Dec 2010 12:16:05 AM
Several things:

1. Their signal is crap, it is slow and painfully embarrassing when I am using it in my work environment.

2. It is always difficult to get through to their call centre.... Was on hold for almost an hour and my vodafone coverage was so bad that it cut out. I am sick of going through their bullshit whenever I need to talk to somebody about their service..... NO ONE IS EVER available!

3. Their service is a joke. You go into their stores and ask for help and they refer you to their website. Their website is so useless you call and sit on hold for hours - WHO IN THIS WORLD HAS THIS KIND OF TIME. I run a business and work 3 different jobs - I would be fired for giving such horrendous service.

4. I am currently traveling and FINALLY worked out (after many phone calls and what not) how to get global roaming for 2 weeks of traveling because apparently their rates are just SO GOOD. NOT. I got a bill for OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS 2 days ago! Who are they kidding? I am not paying for this!

I will be organising to get out of my vodafail contract ASAP!

Ive been with Vodafone for 18mths, First time ever on the internet and I have always had slow downloading, constant drop outs, freezing of screen, says its connected when its not. Takes me forever to connect then 3 minutes on and it drops out again. I go into the shopfront and ask for help and they just say its a network problem go onto 2G edge. That doesnt even work. Today I went back to the shop front and all they said was to call the help line. I did and was put on hold for 2 hours. 6.30pm til 8.27pm. Im desperate to do my Uni application which I have now been made late to submit and it will cost me nearly $200 for late entry. Come on Vodafone, I put my trust in you.

I have very poor reception on my iPhone. Even in the CBD or other open areas. Also I can't make calls (calls fail), Also very slow web page downloads. Hey Voda, you should invest in your infrastucture.
This is the first and last time with Vodaphone. I'm going back to Telstra.
30 Dec 2010 02:32:20 AM: Screw Telstra. I'd rather have my calls drop than go to them. They charge exorbitant amounts and give very little - I agree they're probs one of the most realiable telco's in the market at the moment but also the most expensive for what they 'offer'.
30 Dec 2010 07:56:57 AM: Have you been under a rock for the last year or something. Go check out their prices. And at least shit loads.

WHAT CAN I DO NOW..MONEY FOR NOTHING AND PHONE FOR FEE...
29 Dec 2010 11:20:32 PM: Check out the 'How to complain' link at the top of this page. By the sounds of it you will need to escalate it to the TIO, but first contact vodafone, explain they are not providing a service and if they are unable to help, explain you will escalate it to the TIO. Then simply give the TIO all of the information and they will look into it for you :)

8804 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Appalling at 29 Dec 2010 10:32:29 PM
If I could change, I'd throw my Vodafone SIM out tomorrow. I unfortunately have no choice - my company has a national contract with Vodafone "because they are cheap". What a terrible mistake some bean counter has made - a false economy.

I work in the heart of Adelaide, and am dumbfounded that in this day and age, I cannot reliably hold a connection. On some days, the network is so poor, that my calls go straight to voicemail, as my phone has no service. The final issue to top it all off is, the voicemail notification service sometimes takes hours to days, to notify me that a message is waiting.

I've had phones with Telstra & Optus, and I'm wishing I still had. Even though their plans are a little more expensive, their networks are FAR superior to Vodafone. Beyond the CBD is yet another sad story. Many days I have to wait until I get close to suburbia, so that I can make a call.

What a pity these reception & reliability issues continue to persist - I resent having to carry around a phone service that is "touch & go". Vodafone - I hope you will act on the comments of your customers.

Getting a contract with Vodafone was the biggest mistake of my life. While they are certainly the best value for money on contracts, a phone contract is no good when you can't get coverage anywhere! If I want coverage, I have to walk down to the end of the street and stand with my phone in the air waiting for a message to send. I've spoken to Vodafone about this, and they say that the reception in my area is fine, so it must be the building I live in. Yet my dad gets perfectly fine reception on 3, who are now the same company as Vodafone anyway?!

THIS IS ILLOGICAL.
29 Dec 2010 10:20:23 PM: Actually 3 are still using the NextG network for most of their towers, they haven't been crossed over completely to the Vodafone towers yet, but it will happen shortly.
29 Dec 2010 10:30:11 PM: Well it had better hurry up and happen, because this is just ridiculous!
29 Dec 2010 10:48:52 PM: I am not sure why you would want it to happen, as that means your dad will have the same poor coverage as you?
30 Dec 2010 02:39:57 AM: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Why the hell would 3 Hutchison switch to Vodafone's towers?!
30 Dec 2010 12:59:43 PM: I was under the beleif that telstra bought 40% of threes towers a fe wyears ago, wondering if three will retain the 60% they still own??
30 Dec 2010 03:59:40 PM: Telstra leased the towers to "3" they didn't buy them. Now that Vodafone have bought 3 the contract is basically void. 3 customer have been told by three/voda customer service that they are using Voda towers and not Telstra.

8794 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Look at your phone at 29 Dec 2010 10:15:50 PM
Those with dropouts, should think about their phone as well as provider. Some phones are designed for city use, with a not so good antenna, ok for about 1 km. Other phones are designed for rural, and other made for regional. look at your phone and find out if its made for the area you're in. My 6720 was great within 4 km of a tower but the N95 was crap. The N95 was great with the tower only 1 km away. Vodafone's tower is 1 km away, Optus and Teltra are 3.8 km away and have crap reception here.
30 Dec 2010 08:50:39 AM: clearly its not just the phone causing the problem! There are to many complaints for it to be the phones. Vodafone has had this issue for years, lately it has just gotten worse!!!!

I'm currently with 3 and at the time of this post, have just received several messages and missed call messages dating back from Christmas day to 28/12/10. What the hell?! My phone had been on this whole time but obviously, it's due to terrible reception that I've been receiving. I thought since the merger between Vodafone and 3 would result in much better reception across Metro Melbourne but even with that, my phone can't pick anything up. Ridiculous!

8790 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is not at all at 29 Dec 2010 10:10:54 PM
When is someone going to setup a Telstrafail or Optus fail website? The amount of complaints would far outdo Vodafone. Optus billing problems, Telstra reception problems, you are all nuts, everywhere I go with my vodafone I have service where Telstra and Optus don't. At home, I put the Telstra sim into my vodafone mobile and get no reception at all, in the telstra phone I get 1 bar, sometimes 2 if I go out front. All 3 companies show Broadford as having full coverage, but only Vodafone comes through with flying colors for me, well done Vodafone! Thank you.
29 Dec 2010 10:17:39 PM: Sorry mate, but the NextG network has the best performance and coverage in Australia. I have used Voda, 3, Optus and the NextG network and afraid to say Voda/3 are the worst of the lot. I will NEVER change back to them again.
30 Dec 2010 07:11:49 AM: Troll comment
30 Dec 2010 07:46:36 AM: Ha ha ha - Telstra fail. For what?? having coverage?

I have all the reception/text messaging/voicemail/data problems that everyone else is reporting.

My biggest Vodafone FAIL is by far that when I ring they are always "experiencing higher than normal call volume" so I enter my number for a call back in 30 minutes, wait an hour and a half, get a call from the automated call back service, it connects me to a real person, my call drops out. I start the whole process over again!

Agghhhh. I swore I would never go back to Telstra but I am seriously considering it. Get your act together Vodafone.
30 Dec 2010 02:46:22 AM: Yes I get the same automated message, even at 8am when the call centre's just opened.

8783 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is I just want to call and text at 29 Dec 2010 09:46:12 PM
I don't ask much of Vodafone, I just want to reliably be able to take and make calls and receive and send text messages...

When people try to call me they often get 'unable to connect' error tones and messages OR the phone rings at their end but my handset never rings and the voicemail they leave doesn't arrive for hours. I have replicated this with my home phone in one hand ringing my mobile in the other which sits there silent while my home phone is dialling away. Grrrr.

The network seems to frequently "forget" that my handset is attached to it for hours on end, eventually I will get a bunch of text messages when it remembers me that are time stamped the time they were sent in the past few hours but didn't arrive until much later.

The network refuses to send my text messages, sometimes turning my handset on and off again resolves this but sometimes it doesn't especially if there are multiple messages in my outbox waiting to be sent.

My housemate has the opposite problems, he sends me a text message and the same message arrives on my phone anywhere from 3 to 6 times despite him only having sent it once.

I really want the new HTC Desire HD which is exclusive to Vodafone but I am not willing to sign up to Vodafone again to get it. Massive fail Vodafone.
29 Dec 2010 10:10:03 PM: Yea I know how you feel, hope the phone is released with other carriers.
30 Dec 2010 12:35:20 AM: You are better off doing what I am planning on in the new year to escape Vodafail's crapness. Sign up with Optus or Telstra (other carriers), get the best phone for the package you want (samsung galaxy s or other similarly valued phones). Then I plan to sell the phone on Ebay and buy the HTC Desire HD outright from Ebay or MobiCity if I want the warranty.

I want this phone too but I read that the HTC Desire HD is forever exclusive to Voda and they paid $57mill for the pleasure - our displeasure.

I am sick of Vodafone dropping out all the freaking time. Have to stand in weird positions to get reception and cannot justify having an awesome phone if the service doesn't allow you to appreciate it. NOT WORTH IT!!
30 Dec 2010 02:50:50 AM: You realise that you're paying off that handset and selling it would be illegal?

1. I have 2 Phones. A work phone on another carrier (NextGen) and a personal phone on Vodafone. I have found many times that the Vodafone has no or little coverage inside buildings and shopping centres compared to 100% coverage with the work phone. I have even had "No coverage" while standing outside a Vodafone shop!

2. I have set up Vodafone to email me the bills.
On many occasions the bill never arrives, and then the next month I get an "Overdue" notice.

8775 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Failing in the extreme at 29 Dec 2010 09:28:16 PM
I cannot receive or make calls from my home, nor can I send or receive txts. Voicemail arrives 6-8 hours after a call has been made and seeing I have not paid for voicemail on my plan, that is the only way to access my phone, when I am out of my house! I moved from 3 to Vodaphone in November, same phone, same address, I had no problem with 3 and I have had not service from Vodaphone. My mobile number is the number given as an emergency for my children, and it doesnt work. In fact on December 4, my daughter was with a school group surfing and was badly stung by a bluebottle, my mobile did not forward the voicemail. It was some time later that the school contacted my home (fixed line) number to inform me of my daughter's distress and her request for me to collect her. The next day I made long calls from my fixed line to the Mumbai call centre who assured me that Randwick had excellent coverage. The coverage is so erratic as to be non-existent. They have failed to provide me with a reasonable or standard service, and take my money under false pretences. I am not a huge phone user. My needs are to organise work, and to manage the school activities and drop off and pick up arrangements of my children. Heaven forbid a real emergency to occur. I would like to know what Nigel Dews would do if the same things were happening to him. It is not acceptable and I will lose money if I break the contract. This needs to be addressed now.
29 Dec 2010 11:27:02 PM: Try and get through to the vodafone customer service and tell them you want out because of network issues. They should be listening now and if they don't you can go to the TIO. Vodafone isn't providing what you are paying for.

I have been on a contract for only 2 months and i can't get coverage in most areas. When I'm in central melbourne, I can only get 1 bar on most days and this is the same across inner city areas in Victoria. I receive mms messages hours later and sometimes the next day. I can't retrieve my voicemail messages. I get 1 bar coverage at my parents place out in the suburbs, and in the country with my friends I get no coverage. I can't deal with this anymore, but I'm stuck in a contract for 2 years. So over it. Vodafail should have their licence revoked as a telco.

8773 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is Horrible at 29 Dec 2010 09:24:33 PM
Went into Vodafone HQ in the CBD today, asked them how their reception was and they said, "A lot better than you think!"

I then held up my phone, with ONE BAR of reception and said, "Oh really?"

"It's because... you're inside! Being inside stops reception." The woman told me, hesitating to find the right lie to weave. I promptly walked outside and held the phone up, a good three metres from the door. Still one bar. She said there wasn't anything she could do.

I told her where to shove it. I hate this plan I'm with!! There's no way out!!
29 Dec 2010 09:25:38 PM: There is always a way out :) Check out the "How to complain" link at the top of this page :)
29 Dec 2010 10:12:04 PM: Yea you can get out, follow the steps and you will be free!
30 Dec 2010 09:27:43 AM: should have inserted your phone up her ass....that would have learned her!
30 Dec 2010 03:32:11 PM: Sounds like the first time I was with OPTUS, the phone kept cutting out even infront of the Hobart GPO lol. What a silly woman to say it is on one bar because you are in the shop. I have to say back in 97/98 Vodafone out shoned Telstra and even Optus, they had less dropouts and the customer service was supior, but the service and customer service has dropped. I ended my vodafone contract in 98 after moving to Melbourne, after getting rude Vodafone operator that said to F Off and called me a liar, when Celluar one put things in the note not to touch my service.
30 Dec 2010 05:27:36 PM: being inside is no issue!!! My brother has telstra, i have crazy johns through the voda network. We will both be in the same spot in the same shop which is encased with a tonne of concrete as there is a car park on top. Surprise surprise he has reception, i do not. 8772 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is VODAFONE IS A JOKE!!!!! at 29 Dec 2010 09:19:58 PM
After only 13 months into a 24month contract, my phone was playing up in a big way (or so I thought) and decided I would do whatever I needed to get a new phone and still happily remain in a contract with Vodafone. A customer of Vodafone for more than 6 years, my call spends are massive so I was hoping my needs would be met. With calls not connecting, calls dropping out, messages/voice not received for a couple of hours or at all, I needed a phone and fast as it was my personal line, landline and work number.

Not only did I make more than 6 calls over the space of 2 months, but in one phonecall, the total wait/talk time was almost 3 hours!!! And, there was not resolve. During almsot half of the conversations, the calls dropped out (again) and I had to go through the pains of waiting in the call queue again!! When the last call was finally made, we came to an agreement, I got a new phone but this was having to pay more than $300 for this only to find out the above issues were NOT because of my phone, but because of the network. Repeatedly I had advised that I was going to move my business across to Telstra if we could not come to an agreement and now more than ever, I wish I had!!!! Not only did I spend HOURS of my time and hundreds of dollars more, the problem was NOT resolved. I could have kept my existing handset AND moved across to a network that would at least provide that!!

ABSOLUTELY P!SSED OFF!!!!

8760 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is networking coverage was painful at 29 Dec 2010 08:52:07 PM
Started when I signed internet wireless with vodafone on 07/01/2010 at World Square Vodafone Dealer by the sales person named Laurie. He ensured that the suburb I live (Roselands NSW 2196) is covered by Vodafone. The contract is for 2 years, and the first half year was charged $ 19,95 (thats he said; but always gone up and downs even I never excess the user limit which is 6 GB per month). However after the first 6 months ended, the real story came up , since July 2010 until November 2010 ; when the monthly bill is $ 39.95 per month - I hardly can use the network smoothly. I had to move around in my own house to find the coverage and once I got it, it stayed only 10 minutes. I did rang the customer service and suprise surprise its somewhere around the world ( India or Somewhere not in Sydney) tried to fix the problem but nothing to be done. I asked them if they could give me credit for the service/product that they can not deliver to the client, and they said no; what a dickhead; sorry my language, but this is awful. The product is 6 GB $ 39.95 24 month - inc modem.
Thats my story and I can not wait if this matter can be fixed and I just wanna get out from this mess.

apart from only being able to talk to "Lara" when I call customer care,(unless I have time to hold for 2 hours... I now have a brand new iphone on a contract that I am tied into for 24 months, and can't ever access the 3G network, use the credit I get to make any calls as I live in the South Brisbane area and can never get any network. Calls drop out, my internet times out or I wait so long for anything to load that I give up. People try to call me and my phone is "off" as the reception is so aweful. I was previously with Virgin mobile who I never had any issue with in this area, and switched to vodafone because they had a good iphone plan. BIG MISTAKE. When I sent through a complaint about the rubbish customer service, I had email back to ask for "further information" which I didnt receive until a few days after the "cut off" for the reply to their email, and in their words "this issue is assumed resolved and we have closed this case" or something along those lines. Most frustrating service provider I have ever experienced

Vodafone sux! I signed up for wireless broadband with 3 Mobile 2 years ago and due to such poor reception I was able to transfer to Vodafone (unfortuantely starting a new 24 month contract) 1 year ago, as they assured me I would get a much better reception. No such luck. For over a year now I have had constant reception issues BUT they will not cancel my plan (and I have to resort to using my partner's Telstra wireless broadband USB - which is excellent). I have spent dozens of hours on the phone to Vodafone's Indian based Technical Dept, trying to solve my constant issues with various alternatives to try. I currently am using a sharing dock that Vodafone sent me, which now makes my so called mobile wireless not mobile (portable) and reception is still not great, regularly dropping me out. I just want to get out of my contract instead of paying my monthly invoices for NO SERVICE!

I have had it all. From dropouts to crossed lines to network busy messages, delayed SMS messages by up to two days and no service in an area that is normally fine. I gave up trying to ring the help line as I don't have time to sit on hold or go around in circles issuing voice commands, sit in a ques for 40 mins then get disconnected and have to go through it all again only to hear we are addressing it? Get it together vodafone. I have been a loyal user for a lot of years with 9 numbers with your company. Has anyone else had a "network lost" message appear up to 15 times a day on their iPhone4? I have this message appear stating that my network coverage is no longer available and that I can chose a new network in settings. It gives me two choices, either to dismiss the error message or to go to settings. If I hit dismiss, my 3G icon disappears from next to my reception bar. Or every time I try to use 3G, the icon turns into an "E" and doesn't load. So incredibly frustrating, since I've been with Vodafone for more than 10 years and have never had the issues that I've experienced in the past six months.

I am fortunately no longer with Vodafone. The 'upgrades' that Vodafone are doing are consistent with the same 'upgrades' they were supposedly doing 2 years ago when I found their service to be sketchy. The exact same issue: Dropped calls / static in the lines / delayed messages / failed messages / loss of network. I was released from my contract by contacting the TIO which concluded Vodafone were not fulfilling contractual obligations. Nice to see that this issue is STILL going strong 2 years later. Well done Vodafone.

I wasn't expecting much after 40 minutes on hold to Vodafone, however I did get a young man who was very helpful.
They are obviously taking their complaints very seriously.
My other issue was that the only reason I'm still with Vodafone is because of their ashes coverage, however because of their signal, I wasn't able to access day one of the boxing day test on the train home the other day because of the appalling patchy signal.
Was terrible.

I joined up to Vodafone as my daughter was on it, and all I knew was they offered free vodafone-to-vodafone calls. I used to be on Optus Prepaid, and NEVER any problems! Great reception, great customer service, short waiting times when calling them...however, less than one month ago, I joined a no-contract monthly plan with Vodafone and here are my numerous COMPLAINTS:
sometimes calls drop out, reception is very very poor...OFTEN, often can't send text messages due to reception probs (strange, when Optus was PERFECT!), I called Vodafone 1555 last week to cancel my phone service with them, and I took the option of them phoning me back as the wait time was over 40 minutes they said. So they phone me back, and I was on hold another 114 minutes, before I HUNG UP IN DISGUST! :(((( I had my young kids to look after, and i wasted the whole morning on hold, and telling my kids to go play. They even missed morning tea. AND I NEVER GOT To TALK TO ANYONE. I even called a Mobile Phone shop and they say, no we have to call teh same number 1555 to cancel your service....
So what is the solution? I don't even use the full credit i get given....I want to go back to OPTUS....do i call in the middle of the night in the hope of getting through quicker? I WILL TRY THAT TONIGHT, and if they WON'T CANCEL MY SERVICE, I'll be back here!!!!!
I don't even care anymore if they make me lose my phone number (unless i pay them $50 to take the number elsewhere)...well, they are not getting more from me!

I am a pensioner and can't afford to waste all this money.
How VF could let themselves sink this low is an international disgrace.
I'm surprised that the UK management havn't removed the Australian management yet.
An unmitigated absolute disgrace, and it's an insult from them to say they're working on it.
They're still advertising for new customers and still moving 3's traffic onto their network, so they have no conscious or brains.

So why dont we all chip in and get a prime time ad put on air warning people about vodafone and their hopeless network. One phone has no service on it until we found that it needed a new sim card, we had only got the phone a month ago and they had provided us with the sim card then.

Well it is hard to receive a temporary password via SMS when the sim card in question is in a broken USB Internet modem in a bin somewhere in Perth. Also your on hold music has bad reception, great advertising.

8713 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Multiple fails at 29 Dec 2010 07:26:50 PM
In the year I was with Vodafone, as well as dropped calls lack of reception in Sydney CBD and lower North shore, as well as delayed voicemails, I was also cut off twice for spending too much. Even though I have never missed a payment (at Vodafone or at my previous provider) I started receiving threatening texts and automated messages that I had spent too much. When I called and explained I was OS for work (even though I had alerted them b4 I left) I was told this didn't matter and I had to pay immediately or be cut off. I explained that I had jus paid the last month's bill so surely I had another month before this new amount was due. They said it had to be paid immediately. I succumbed (as i could not lose my mobile while OS on my business trip) and asked them to email me the invoice asi would pay it immediately. They then told me that billing was autmated so they could not send me the invoice, I would need to wait to 2 weeks. I told them thati thought this was extortion - you can't just ring and demand payment - sending an invoice was standard business practice. I told them I wouldn't pay unti the sent me the invoice. So they hung up on me and cut me off. This happened on Two separate occasions. I rang and Emailed a number of times - and was relatedly told this was standard practice, I never ever received an apology. When my contact expired I tried leave immediately and got told romps a $50 unlock fee even though I had just spent a year paying off the phone. At that stage I just had to leave. Beware the fancy advertising - this company is a joke.

I attempt to use my voda iphone for business but no longer can. I am so sick of the dropped calls, the failed calls, the total lack of signal etc etc. What is worse is that when I try and speak to someone in AUSTRALIA who really knows what is going on- "there is no way I can put you through"..... The customer service is designed to frustrate and obsfucate rather than to solve the problem. I have tried to unlock my phone from the network to leave- but now even that site doesnt work!. Suspicious ha????

I miss calls, don't receive texts, can't send texts, it took 4 days for me to receive a picture message! I pay $79 per month and get bugger all service. I spent every night for a week on hold to the support area, only to get advice that my current issues have nothing to do with the current network issues, and they would call me back. That was meant to be last friday. No calls. I get texts and emails saying I haven't paid my bill and I had paid it a week before the text and email were sent. Vodafone have failed at providing any level of service and they are not even returning calls after making repeated assurances that they would. I will also be cancelling my contract without paying the fee.
29 Dec 2010 07:34:07 PM: : Until the ACCC makes new recommendations, or the class action gets up, we still need to follow all the rules, yes it has been established and admitted by Vodafone that their is a problem but that doesn't give anyone the rights to stop paying or just port out and cancel, if you do this you will affect your credit file and you will be in the wrong.

I have a business account and can't wait until my Vodaf@#% contract runs out in April and I can move my phones to Telstra. Vodaf@#% oversell and underdeliver. Maybe the CEO can pull back on the 'glory' sponsorships of V8's and cricket and invest in improving the network. The current leadership will be remembered for screwing a good brand and not much else.

I recently migrated from 3 to Vodafone..and its just been absolute hell, my network reception drops or is constantly goign from 3G to 2G. I only migrated there because 3 were not getting the blackberry Torch and i wanted to upgrade my current blackberry. I regret doing it!. If this is what it takes to get the handset you want then screw it!..I should have stayed with 3!. It might be teh same company but their service is far ahead of Vodafone.
Vodafone customer service is pathetic, it took 3 days to activate my sim card.. I mean seriously. You are a multinational business. Lets not even talk about ur internet service... Get your stuff together,I'm not paying for 2nd rate service!

I have 2 phones - one work supplied and one personal with Vodaphone for when I don't want to be disturbed from work (as when I am on holidays). The reception on the Optus (work) phone is consistently good and the Vodaphone is consistently either bad or no signal. I am pretty well reduced to using Navionics only on the Vodaphone unit as it is otherwise unreliable.

8681 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Hopeless at 29 Dec 2010 06:44:33 PM
I have been a Vodaphone customer for several years now, easier than switching companies. For the last 12 months my dissatisfaction with their service, or lack thereof, has been growing. I have a prepaid mobile and live in an area that is supposably fully serviced by Vodaphone, so why is it that I can't get reception!! I have to stand in a particular spot in my bedroom or lounge to get enough signal to talk to anyone without "dropping" out, which happens with frustrating regularity. It then costs me again to phone back. I have complained and whilst the staff at the local Vodaphone shop are lovely, they are not able to help, can't explain why and basically haven't a clue. No offer of extra credit either to cover the cost of all the extra calls I have to make. Have also tried the mobile internet service but gave that up in a hurry, same thing ,no signal, no service. Will be switching to another Company next week.

Ever since Vodafone took over 3 my coverage has been terrible. Is anyone looking into the issues for 3 users? Especially those who had a contract long before vodafone took them over?
9 Jan 2011 01:29:47 PM: 3 is not connected to vodafone when it comes to your coverage. its hard not to tie the two together but vodafone has nothing to do with your 3 coverage.

8677 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Inadequate at 29 Dec 2010 06:38:46 PM
I have no problems with Vodafone's call and text functions, having never had either of them fail. That is one thing i'm grateful for. However for work I often rely on receiving emails from staff and this is where the problem becomes most apparent. The data network has only ever performed as expected perhaps once or twice over the two years i've been with Vodafone. Usually it works well enough to retrieve email summaries or some basic details. Most of the time it just simply doesn't work at all, even in 5-bar coverage GPRS and 3G areas. Vodafone have been fine otherwise, not counting the automated phone system "Lara", but the data network and its share of problems somewhat dampen the experience for me.

I leave in an area where the 3G network reception was very bad. My case was escalated to the priority team to get my contract and service moved unto Vodafone from 3Network. Vodafone sent me the new iphone4. You cant believe this, it took them a week and 2days to get the new phone activated. When my new iphone4 was eventually activated the reception was the worst ever i have ever experienced. I called vodafone to lodge a complaint about this and i was kept on hold for ever until my wife's mobile phone ran out battery. I ended up not getting any help to fix my phone.Vodaphone is so useless and i would never recommend anybody to subscribe to their mobile service

My Vodafone 3G modem has dropped out three - no, make that five - times while trying to post this. It seems I am in that notorious coverage black hole known as "the eastern suburbs of Melbourne". In the last few days I have seen saturation advertising by Vodafone which must have cost an enormous amount of money. How much does it cost to put up a couple more towers?

everyone's saying the same things, so i'll only count as a number. Call dropouts, unable to call, poor customer service (even in the store, they call the same number & go thru the same 40 mins of recorded messages - then they hand the phone to you.....) Sms messages missing / delayed.
Surely the network upgrade can't be happening to all towers at once.....and where is the transperancy to customers? If is was systematic, area by area, AND they were upfront about it, maybe so many wouldn't be upset.
I started with V. many years ago because i found their service, (both network & customer)to be better than Telstra, but have been having second thoughts for ages. Get the towers (if this is the issue)sorted & put real people (in australia) on the phones!

I live on the sunshine coast. I get no reception at home and limited at work. I put my phone down and get full bars then when someone answers and I bring the phone to my ear it cuts out. After going in to numerous Vodafone stores and speaking to customer 'care' on the phone the answer that i was given is that my iphone doesnt pick up reception as well as other handsets. Brisbane is the capital city of queensland and I don't get reception. It drops out in westend/taringa/cleveland/everywhere. Locked into a contract and paying nearly one hundred dollars a month for shitty reception/slow data and no answers gives me vodafone rage. They need to sort this out asap. I will never choose them as my provider again.

Every places I go have different quality. At work (Camberwell, Box Hill, Doncaster) phone shows 3G/H signs but when I tried to load my email or even google, they will never load. Seriously?! At home, I can do experiment where phone shows full bar of reception quality, when I call my phone with my optus number, I get the out of service prompt quite often. IS THIS FOR REAL? Don't even get me started on overseas calls

8663 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is can you re-phrase your question? at 29 Dec 2010 06:20:42 PM
we battle to get cell phone reception (bars on the phones) in our 14-year old house. we have 2 cellphone towers within 2-4 km of the house. I called the help line and after 42 minutes someone answered. Luckily it wasn't an emergency. The foreign lady on the line informed me that they do not guarentee reception inside buildings. We had no problem in the rental we were staying at about 5 km away. she suggested I change my settings to 2-g only. That kind of sucks as because then my smart phone would become very dumb. Luckily switching made no difference, so i'm back to 3g. Whe this contract is up, i'm gogin to switch to Telstra. their billing sucks, but at least I'll get reception.

There isn't just 1 to quote:-

1) The call centre never picks up the phone, I have been waiting for more than 1 hour now.

2) The network is horrible and keeps on fluctuating always.

3) On the other side the staff is not trained and denies the facts return on the web-site. It looks like they are never updated with the latest updates and offers.

I live in central Surfers Paradise, a place where most would think the service would be best. I have been a customer of Vodafone for nearly 5 years now and have been using the 3G Mobile Broadband. Although I have no issues with the with cell phone service. With the 3G There is not a day where Vodafone has not disappointed me.

There has been time-outs in trace-route for as long as I can remember, even now.
(tracert -w www.google.com). as well as daily service outages. very high latencies (receiving 2380 ping at the moment whereas on some of those rare days i'm lucky to get 500)

Each and every time I have contacted Vodafone about this, the only answer i get is "The network in your region is congested." - Congested 24hours a day? I have received that one exact, very same answer each and everytime I have called in the passed year. In my opinion, That's indirectly admitting to the incompetence of handling the customers you have, not to mention new customers.

They awarded my account 250 megabytes one day... HOORAH????.. what a joke.

Like come on.. get your @#$% together.

Vodafone isnt good but nor is Telstra. I hope this isnt a dodgey site to get us to go back to telstra!!!
29 Dec 2010 06:20:24 PM: We understand your concern and can assure you that we are not such a site. We do not work for any Telcos and do not officially endorse any particular Telco. As you can see from our 'Alternatives' page, we have tried to list alternatives that are known to us. It is entirely up to individual customers which network they get with, they may even stay with Vodafone if they get their issues resolved. - Vodafail Team

8656 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is After 13 years with them....... a Big FAIL at 29 Dec 2010 06:11:32 PM
I have been with them for ages and always had the top plan because of my job. 6-8 weeks ago I signed up again for another 2 years and this time got the I4 as it is the latest phone. I thought that my reception may get better with a better phone, I had a Nokia 6300 after smashing the N98 that came with the contract, but alas I was wrong.
The funny part of this is that I live 4kms east of Perth City and work 1km North of the City. At home the service drops out all the time, but at work I get at least 3-4 bars.
We signed up for our home phone line with the deliberate intent of not making calls and using the mobile, but I have had too use it because of bad or no reception. This is now costing me more money due to their incompetence.

BIG FAIL VODAFONE.... :(
