Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

10280 Someone from NT thinks vodafone is not worth the hassel at 4 Jan 2011 11:27:25 AM
vodaphone is useless i thought it was only happing to my phone, having no recpetion in mitchell street and in parap is lucky to have one bar of reception. Ppl send me picture msg and i never recieve them or they come 2 days late! They say u have roaming when u go away and demand it from the shop and u find u go overseas and it actually doesnt work.. Telstra is the way to go at least u have full recpetion all the time and there plans are getting better. Nothing but problems with vodaphone
4 Jan 2011 11:29:46 AM: If possible can you use the 'Your Coverage' tab at the top of the page, it will help others if we can provide hard evidence to Vodafone about their lack of network coverage. Agree entirely with your last sentence!!!!

10273 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is Dangerously irresponsible at 4 Jan 2011 11:18:20 AM
I live in a suburb where a Vodafone sales person assured me also that I would receive coverage with no issues. Once I got home I had no bars. I went back in and they told me that it was because the iPhones didn't receive signals as good as other phones. I didn't immediately rule this possibility out, although I was skeptical, so I tried a different handset that they advised me was far better. I got home and still no bars. I swapped back to the iPhone because it was my initial preference and the different handset made no difference. I discovered that if I stood at the end of my driveway I could achieve the success of receiving 1 bar worth of signal, but only for short periods.

I tried desperately soon after the purchase of the contract to get Vodafone to see that the product I was sold did not meet the specifications it claimed and that THEIR end of the contract had not been fulfilled yet I was still paying for a product I could not use to to my being mislead to generate a sale.

Several months ago my 16 month old daughter had an anaphalactic reaction to something in some food and I was home alone with her. I tried the driveway and got 000 but the call dropped out. I ran to my neighbor to use their phone who, thank god was home sick from work. An ambulance arrived in time and everything turned out ok.

Whether it was the sales person or if it was wrong information provided to them by Vodafone, I was lied to. I have since been told by THE SAME sales person that there was a "mistake made" regarding the availability of service in my area, however, the coverage map that is shown on the website and in the brochures found in store still regard my area as a high reception area 7 months on from the 000 incident. I, and EVERY other person that comes to my area who use the Vodafone network still have either no reception, or such little reception that a sustained phone call is impossible.
4 Jan 2011 11:25:03 AM: Oh, and just to throw another one out there, I also get either no reception or not enough to sustain a call at work, which is in a different suburb that I was ALSO assured would have no issues.
4 Jan 2011 11:26:24 AM: Blimey....what a horrific time for you, I feel your pain more so as my good lady is in hospital and I cannot contact her!!! Appears you need to get out of that contract ASAP and to a more responsible provider. Check out the 'How To Complain' tab at the top of the page, take it to the TIO and let us know how you get on!! Best wishes to you and your daughter.
4 Jan 2011 11:30:11 AM: If possible can you use the 'Your Coverage' tab at the top of the page, it will help others if we can provide hard evidence to Vodafone about their lack of network coverage.
4 Jan 2011 11:41:06 AM: I have been in constant contact with the TIO for the last month. At this stage having the contract voided looks promising but my contract problem is a secondary issue with the TIO as they are investigating why my 000 call was not able to be made. According to the TIO, mobile handsets will attempt to reach 000 via ANY other available network if your carrier is unable to do so.

This is from the "000" entry from Wikipedia:
Dialling Triple Zero (000) (or 112) on most Australian GSM mobile phones will override any keypad lock, and if the caller's home network is out of range, the phone will attempt to use other carrier's networks to relay the call.

The Telstra and Optus network receive FULL coverage in this area, yet according to my correspondence with the TIO reaching 000 via another network is not an uncommon issue and seems to be mostly isolated to Vodafone customers.
4 Jan 2011 11:42:07 AM: If 000 did not work from your driveway an alternative could have been to dial 112 this allows the mobile to contact the emergency services through any available GSM (2G) whether you are a subscriber to that network or not. So in your case even if you were with Vodafone and standing at the end of your driveway if you were in range of 2G Telstra or Optus tower your call would have gone through one of those networks. Note 112 does NOT work on fixed lines, VOIP or 3G (other reading this website may know a little more about the 3g situation).

The above is why some mobiles show 'emergency only' when a customer is out of range of their subscribing network but within range of others.
7 Jan 2011 10:07:45 PM: 112 is the number that should be dialled from a mobile in case of an emergency, not 000, although the OP in this case may not have been aware.

Thankfully, all turned out OK.

As far as what 112 will and won't work on - it will work on both GSM and 3G.

Spent new years in byron and didn't get reception for about a week while i was there.. there were a few times in town when there was reception but that was about it.

Also have no reception in my work office in the city (Sydney) which is frustrating when people call me and always go to voicemail. Calls are dropped all the time and often you just can;t call out when in the city or Bondi.

Vodafone has not delivered on its service which it continues to charge me for month on end.

10268 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is can't believe they are a phone provider at 4 Jan 2011 11:02:33 AM
I like everyone else is having the "drop out, poor reception, delayed txt & no Internet".
I have had a problem getting through to customer service....why? because me phone call drops out.oh the irony.
don't bother trying to make sense of the staff locatedin India.they have no idea what is going on. don't expect them to admit to their network having problems.the down-low on it.all of this has stemmed from a programming code that wasn't done correctly the first place.
don't expect it to be fixed anytime soon either.
essentially, either get your account credited or get out of your contract.
if you don't get anywhere go to the telecommunications ombudsman.
vodafone should be harshley reprimanded for the so called "service" they provide.
WHAT A JOKE VODAFONE!!!!!

10266 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is No coverage at 4 Jan 2011 11:00:06 AM
My family live on a farm in Diamond Beach which is in the Forster/Tuncurry area of NSW.

They have no landline, and they are out and about most of the day. When I visit the farm, I have no coverage what so ever.

As I spent Xmas Day there, I was unable to contact family and friends for Xmas wishes.

More worrying, if I was on the farm on my own, any should any emergencies occur, I would not be able to call for help with using my Vodafone mobile, as it has never had reception out there.

The combination of these two, and the complaints on this site mirror the absolute scam that is the Vodafone telco.

Everything from there customer service Lara, to the Indian customer service makes the whole experience a disgrace to the way Customer Service is being conducted in Australia.
4 Jan 2011 11:03:53 AM: Enter the postcode in the 'Your Coverage' tab at the top of the page, the more data we have regarding poor coverage the more information can be presented to Vodafail for network integrity.

10265 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is makes me wanna change carriers at 4 Jan 2011 10:59:05 AM
there is so many problems with vodafone! Firstly the reception. My mum has the crappiest phone ever and I have a nice touch phone and she gets better reception than me. Even in high reception areas my bar is on zero and i cannot make any calls or any texts. The staff never want to help when i go into any vodafone store, one time they just gave me a brochure and sent me on my way. My phone pooped itself while I was paying insurance, yet they insisted that insurance does not cover it, even though it wasnt myself. Was gunna charge me 200 dollars to fix the phone, so i went and bought a new one from elsewhere instead. I was on hold for an hour the other day waiting for someone to get me off hold.

Also, I have been missing calls from work due to my alarm stuffing up and the sound on my phone stuffing up, or the lack of reception! I am not happy with vodafone at all!! As soon as my contract runs out, I am switching to Telstra.
4 Jan 2011 11:05:29 AM: Why wait for your contract to terminate? Contact the TIO, details can be found on the tab 'How To Complain' at the top of the page.

10263 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Appauling outage at 4 Jan 2011 10:55:29 AM
In Aug 2009 when Vodafone switched over to 3G network, I was working in the NSW Snowy Mountains region. From Cooma through to Jindabyne, there was no Vodafone coverage at all.

I rang Vodafone, got through to their local Indian customer service centre, and was told that they had no issues reported in that area.

I then rang the local radio station, and there was widespread outage and complaints coming into the radio station about the coverage.

When I rang Vodafone back and advised that there was a local issue, again got told that the they had no reported outage.

As I was running a business which relied on my Vodafone phone, I was forced to get a pre-paid phone with another company.

Coverage in this area having just visited the area Jan 2011, is still limited from Cooma through to Jindabyne. Several call drop outs and no coverage experienced.

10253 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is at 4 Jan 2011 10:16:22 AM
When I was in Perth I had problems with Vodafone wireless internet. At the store I was told that my suburb had good coverage, however it turned out to be really poor. I complained to the store and they said it all depended on the positioning of my house and the locality of the transmitting towers... I then moved back to Canberra and coverage wasn't any better. I was annoyed but just waited until my contract finished and went with another provider (which incidentally provides better internet, more GB of downloads and is cheaper).
I now have an iPhone and so does my hubby. We frequently get people trying to call us but they are unable to get through to us. We often don't get notice of a missed call and/or a voicemail. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes before a call connects. Pretty frustrating really. Now I'm on a month by month contract I might just switch to another provider...

10251 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Sucks at 4 Jan 2011 10:07:03 AM
Hello, my broadband service never worked...they eventually told me to buy a sharing doc to improve signal strenth - didn't work. They told me they would deduct the cost of the sharing doc from my bill - they didn't do that. They told me I lived in an area with excellent coverage - what a joke! Now I am fighting them over the bill. I hate Vodafone more than anyone else.

10250 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Utter Fail! at 4 Jan 2011 10:04:26 AM
I am eighteen months into a two year contract and have had nothing but trouble from the time I joined. The shop stuffed me around so much when I started with them, they had me out of service for over two weeks, then rang me to say I'd 'won' some kind of competition which entitled me to about $250 and that I could attend a ceremony of some kind in Sydney for Vodafone (BS!!!) think it was a sweetener as I'd contacted the ombudsmen. Now want out. Have had enough. No reception, call drop outs and messages not arriving for days. WTF?! Not happy at all!

10248 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is pathetic at 4 Jan 2011 09:56:22 AM
Firstly let me say that I have been a big supporter of Vodafone for quite a few years, even converted my partner and 3 brothers to join up.
I have had an ad listed on trading post for 3 weeks with my mobile as the contact number and not one person has actually gotten through to me. Even though I have been in areas with full reception and my phone shows the same.
Everytime I try to make a call I cannot get through to anyone. I switch my phone off and on and then all these voicemail msgs come through from people trying to contact me for the ad. I am losing a lot of potential customers and sales Vodafone!!!!

10245 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Totally at 4 Jan 2011 09:43:48 AM
Initially had trouble getting my first account from them. After numerous calls to people who don't speak or understand english very well finally got my account 2 months after I initially signed up. Since then have not received calls or messages on occasions and had people complain to me that I haven't returned their calls after they have left numerous messages. Bit hard to return calls or reply to messages when you don't get them!!!! Calls also drop out and reception is bad. Don't bother using my partner's computer at home (on vodafone) as continually drops out, is slower than dial-up and that's if you can get on at all. When signed up asked about coverage in our location and was told that it was very good, reality is that it is very BAD. My partner tried numerous times over the last couple of weeks to get onto this site and eventually did, but had to give it a number of goes to get his pain posting in as it dropped out all the time. NOT HAPPY VODAFONE. Would like to be released from my contract so that I can sign up with somebody who cares about their customers and their business.

10244 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Poor reception and calls drop out at 4 Jan 2011 09:41:47 AM
Firstly let me say I have in the past been a supporter of Vodafone but of late, the last 12 months, I am sick of the amount of calls that drop out for seemingly no reason and also those that drop out when receptin is lost. I travel regularly and am constantly frustrated at the amount of calls that drop out when i am discussing business. If you travel anywhere outside of the major cities you don't have much hope of keeping coverage, and even within the cities it is less than satisfactory.
Additionally, I have very limited coverage inside my house, and yes in a capital city. When I answer a call inside, the calls more often than not, drop out.
Quite often SMS don't come through until I make a call and I get a couple at once.
I recently queried why my account did not show that I had paid my last bill. I was on the phone for 22 minutes before I was forced to hang up. I then thought I would query via the customer support email system. I received an automated response that did not help. I then replied to that email through the manner written in the automated response to which I got another automated response. I still have not received any service from the customer support area.
Overall I am getting more and more unhappy with the service that Vodafone provide.

10242 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor at 4 Jan 2011 09:36:41 AM
Purchased a 2 year contract with an iphone 3gs, from Day 1 poor reception or no coverage in certain parts of Sydney, No coverage in my home Sydney west or in my office Blacktown. The phone worked extremely well while traveling-roaming the VFONE Eu network. full reception at all times. After 8 months of heartache, I wrote to the communication ombusman, made contact with a VFONE representative"David" greatest customer service ever experienced. The Phone/acc where returned to the Tasmanian office and all was over so I thought.
I have contacted the billing dept on many occasions to resolve an invoice. ($59 plan costing over $200 for the month). No one returns my calls,On one call previously an operator told me all the history and calls where on record
then today, no history or anything.

10241 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Pathetic at 4 Jan 2011 09:35:42 AM
I have been with Vodafone for a year now. When I first got my iPhone with them in January last year it had screen issues, so I took it back to them and they sent it away telling me it will take 6-8 wks, and they had no replacement phones so I borrowed a friends and almost 6 wks later after I had contacted them to see what was going on, they informed me that the phone was at the shop waiting (thanks for letting me know). Oh and the upside I go in and pick up the 'new' phone only to realise they have given me back my old one which is still not working. So I took it back and they said they would send it back and I would get the new one this time, however this was all too hard as the shop assistant said it would take two wks and I went back exactly two wks later to see if my phone had arrived to be told by another assistant that the phone had never been sent off and the paperwork not processed, so I had to do it all again. Finally 10 days later I receive the new phone. Coverage is always pretty poor with vodafone.. but the phone is not the only problem.. I also unfortunately purchased broadband with vodafone, and WOW is what I have to say, as I was a F/T student an F/T worker for all of last year, so I needed the internet (considering my Grad Dip was soley ONLINE) mainly from 5-10pm at night and on weekends, however I either never had any service or if I did it would take approx 20min to download one page if not longer. I just didnt have the time to waste, so I relied heavily on using the internet at work and also a friend's, as I complained to vodafone numerous times to both the customer service centre and instore and they said they could do nothing, yay for me huh!!! Also my complaints were about the USB which would not register quite frequently, so that coupled with the fact that I for the most part could never access the internet, and never at the times I needed to (so PEAK times) meant that I was and still am paying for a service to which I do not receive. The last time I complained to the customer service was in November as I had taken the day off from work to study and of course my internet wouldnt even work during so called non-peak time, and the operator said that his supervisor had authorised for me to receive free of charge a wireless modem to assist internet activity, he told me I would receive it in 10 business days, funny that I needed it that day and the fact that my studies ended on Nov 12 so yeah kind of a bit too late, but I accepted it anyway..and I am still waiting for it. Oh and I just got internet back on my laptop, as when it would say no device I would uninstall and reinstall the program and it would work typically so I could access the internet on an infitiseminal scale every so often, but the last time I did it which was early Nov whilst on the phone to the vodafone operator, it would not register the device at all..and the guy said it is a problem with my laptop, well I disagree as the usb and internet very rarely work, so I consider that a problem with the service and usb itself. I finally got the device to register on Jan 2 this year so that was 2mths of paying for a service I did not receive and myself having to actually fix the problem caused by their device. Great Customer Satisfaction vodafone does not have, nor are they concerned with satisfying customers sufficiently, and we are not all naive to think that other TELCOs do not have problems, because we all know they do, however I have not encountered one until vodafone that had no regard whatsover for trying to provide a service adequately at minimum to its customers. Vodafone needs a more customer focussed approach wherein customer satsifaction is a priority!!

10240 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is making me want to go to telstra at 4 Jan 2011 09:32:00 AM
I have very poor reception at home and at work. The two locations I frequent regularly. In QLD, a few weeks ago, the internet was unbrearably slow on my iphone, so much that i didnt bother using it. my mobile broadband card (also on vodafone) wasnt much better.

It appears in highly populated areas Vodafone lack bandwidth. Its a shame my contract is only 3 months in.

Where do I beginning with this pathetic service provider! I stupidly thought that they were a great company as I had been with them for years on Prepaid, boy did I make a fatal mistake! Have had nothing but problems.... as soon as I signed up starting making payments to the bill as I was told that it would register on my account... HA! Missing payment which took feb all the way to October 2010 to get fixed up, I havent had proper reception where I work and data reception at home since i signed up, My iphone freezes when i hang up on calls, when i ring people takes me 5 times to actually hear anything on the other side as it just doesnt connect.. the list goes on. And im paying ahead for wat? No point me in ringing as they never do anything and blame it on me or the phone and that its got nothing to do with them not the mention the useless help from these overseas call centres that have a 10 sec delay when your speaking to them!WHAT A JOKE! As soon as I finish my contract thats the end of the vodafone! HELLO OPTUS, TELSTRA... hell anything but them!

10237 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is super fail at 4 Jan 2011 09:26:17 AM
i am almost finished on my 2 year contract and have had many problems over the time. when i first signed up i was told i would pay my first "post paid" bill within days at an estimated cost for the month, i found this unusal though paid up and will be interested to see what happens when i switch providers in march.

since then i have had constant cut calls, been unable to send/recieve messages at times when my phone shows i have full coverage. over 6 days during christmas in 2009 i could not make or recieve any phone calls. i went to a vodafone store and was told i would need a new sim card but would have to go to the store i signed up with; an hours travel as i had moved. i had to do this twice on two seperate ocassions before i was told there had been upgrades on the network and services had been down. quite frustrating during the xmas period with family living overseas. when i returned to a store to complain they told me it wouldnt be any use as nothing would be done. i called the complaint line and was told i would not receive any compensation or notice of other network upgrades.

my mobile internet is constantly slow and cuts out all the time and i cannot access many websites. my phone often frezzes and needs to be turned off and back on again at least once a fortnight and the battery runs out within a couple of days.

i'll be extremely happy to return to my previous provider (i switched only for the slightly cheaper call rates) in 3 months!

10235 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is No more than any other at 4 Jan 2011 09:19:25 AM
I have bad and slow 3G Internet for months. It tells me I'm roaming in Melbourne city. I also have a black spot in my room in Toorak, and spend days without reception over Christmas.

Having worked for Telstra billing though, I can safely say 90% of the comments here are exactly the same type of complaints I got every single day on the phone, and think it's just part and parcel of modern telecommunications.

Hopefully this page, the reports to the TIO, and the media reports make ALL the providers wake up and hopefully even see a change in the law so people unhappy with the service can disconnect from the networks without paying ridiculous exit fees.

10234 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Carelessly Extreme at 4 Jan 2011 09:18:31 AM
Have received 10+ voicemails and even more SMS all in one go... Problem is.... Messages were left 2-10 days earlier.....

Service was disconnected twice due to vodafone dropping my direct debit info.

Have spent many hours over the last 15 months inshore, many more hours on the service/help (sic) line with operators disconnecting me when unable to assist or answer questions, so they 'transfer' me to no-one.

And to top it off, I even have 2 text messages from vodafone asking me to call them because....wait for it.... 'we can't get hold of you on your mobile'!!!!!

If they can't call me, how in the heck am I supposed to call them?!?!?!? My other phone (tin cans and string) don't reach Mumbai.....

And on more than a number of occasions I was told it is apples fault.... ..... And this was after 7 months of dramas and vodafone told me it would take up to 3 weeks to fix/swap the phone, so I waited for new software (which made no difference to the crap network service), finally got fed up enough to travel half a day to the Apple store and they swapped it over in less than 10 minutes... And guess what PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPENING ON THE NEW PHONE

VODAFONE YOU SUCK, you have cost me hundreds in lost business revenue, countless hours on hold (or 'try this try that' reset, reboot, oh and don't forget NAP TIME), and more than a couple of nights lost sleep due to stress and frustration!!!!

And yes vodafone, all this is logged in your crm system.

Oh, and get rid of Lara - she is as useless as udders on a frog.

10227 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is failing and needs to get it's act together at 4 Jan 2011 09:05:56 AM
Calls have been coming through and going directly to voicemail. A missed call has not been registering. My phone doesn't even ring and on some occasions I won't receive notification of the voicemail until the following day.

I have little to no reception where I live (Dunlop). The 3G internet is very slow and several times a day my Iphone registers no internet connection at all.

Further to this, I waited on hold for 50 minutes on 14th of December to order a new Iphone which I was advised would take anywhere up to 3 weeks. I called last week and was on hold for 70 minutes and hung up out of sheer frustration. I then called back on the 31st December and waited on hold for 20 minutes to be put through to a call centre in which I was told that I would receive the handset by the 6th of January... I am still awaiting the new handset at this stage.

I also find they often send texts more than once that im billed for when i asked about them crediting for this they said ok but only for me i said not good enough should be all people that it effects not just the ones with the time to call (took 40 mins to get any where with them). I hung up as i was getting very stressed with them.

10225 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is horrible at 4 Jan 2011 08:59:48 AM
I know my case isn't as bad as anyone elses, but my phone will say i have full reception and when I go to send a text message it can't send. This has never happened before. More often than not the phones reception will fluctuate wildly from full reception to no reception.

10221 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is TOTAL FAIL WHALE!! at 4 Jan 2011 08:57:52 AM
I was an avid user of Vodafone in the UK for approximately 10 years with not a single problem. I moved to Australia 5years ago and continued with the Vodafone network thinking that it was one i could trust.
Whilst in the city for the first 3 years it was great.
As soon as i left the city it was shocking and through the last 2 years has gradually worsened - to the point now where:

- My calls cut out
- Some dont even connect
- Outside Melbourne is pretty much a no go zone
- Sometimes even in the city i dont have signal now
- some texts dont even make their way to me
- voicemails are sometimes received up to a week later
- And 'Lara' never puts me through to the right department without me having to try 4/5 times or more...

I know Australia is far bigger than the UK but seriously, did they not realise that when they tried to take on the beast!!?? Who is operating their strategic management of network coverage/issue resolution/customer care...
These people need to be either sacked for being incompetent or given the right amount of resource to be able to do their jobs effectively!

I'm sorry Vodafone, this loyal customer is unfortunately slipping away to one of your competitors, those who shalt not be named 'Telstra'.

10218 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Extremely Fail at 4 Jan 2011 08:41:54 AM
I signed up with vodafone only 3 months ago and ever since then I have had nothing but trouble. Extremely slow internet/no internet, one bar of coverage at my house! (I live in a city and have NEVER had only one bar at home), my calls drop out, my call fails, text messages and pictures messages always fail, I recieve friends messages and picture messages FOUR DAYS later... the list goes on.
The worst part is I have only just signed up and i'm stuck in this contract for at least another year and a half. How is it fair to be paying $90 a month and not getting the service i signed up for?

10217 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is very fail at 4 Jan 2011 08:41:12 AM
I've been a vodafone for approx 5 years and have lived in Marrickville/enmore for most of that time. Over the past 6mths it has become increasingly difficult to get network coverage at home. Now I need to get in my car and drive a few blocks away before I will recieve or be able to take calls. I first complained in Sep last year and went through several steps with the customer service people to try & improve network coverage (yes and waited up to 20-30 minutes at times for assistance). In spite of being told again and again and again that my issue was being escalated, nothing has happened. I'm now in email correspondance with vodafone, begging to be released from my contract so I can source an alternative telco provider. I simply want to be able to make and receive calls on my phone in my own home. I have contacted TIO and notified vodafone of this contact. Vodafone responded by saying I now need to take it up with TIO and follow their process. Basically they know I have no network coverage yet they are willing to drag this out as long as they can. I believe what they are doing is unethical. I am so angry with the way they are stringing me along. I'm frustrated and feel powerless.
4 Jan 2011 09:35:17 AM: im in your area, and have also had same probs. I had no luck getting out of my contract till they did a 'thorough' network investigation, i asked why they didnt do this the last five times i called, he had no answer. Today is day five of their investigation, so I called TIO. Im not interested in future solutions anymore. Damage done.

10215 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Big Time! at 4 Jan 2011 08:38:07 AM
I have had my new apple iphone with vodafone for 6 months. i have had nothing but trouble. Constant Drop outs, Loss of Network, No reception, receiving pxt messages sometimes takes 3-4 days from when they are sent to me and that is if i receive them at all! I have delayed voicemail normally approx by 8 hours! It is absolutely ridiculous. I contacted Vodafone in October last year and they told me that all of the trouble was because they were merging with another provider and that it would take some time to amalgamate all of the towers but that once it had happened it would all be better! I'm still waiting!!!!!!! Worst frustration is that being up the river over xmas and new year i had no phone reception what so ever, yet all of my family who are with numerous other providers had full recepion from each of the providers! Vodafone are supposed to be one of the biggest phone companies in Australia and yet all these dramas just never seem to get fixed. I AM OVER IT! I will be changing as soon as my contract is up! I'm counting down the days.
4 Jan 2011 08:38:30 AM: meant to say BAD big time!

Apart from the all day drop out that my 15 phones had to endure, constant drop out and garbled voice reception in some areas of Perth it's average to say the least. 10208 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Coverage and overcharged every month at 4 Jan 2011 08:04:43 AM
I live in Newtown NSW and the drop out rate of calls is enourmous, also every month I have been over charged by anywhere from $40 to $100 I have two services on one bill, one is my sons mobile and his is even worse than my coverage and half the time I can not get hold of him, I am a single full time working mother and if I can not get hold of my son I stress. If there was an emergency more times than not he would not be able to ring or recieve calls. I can not wait for my plan to be up so I can change networks.

10206 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Non coverage at 4 Jan 2011 07:59:48 AM
Because of unbelivable poor coverage or drop outs, it is becomong increasingly difficult to work at home anymore. I have not got a land line(who does these days)but have to eother now go into the ofice to make calls or gop outside, where it sometimes works. It is adisgrace. I have GPS and have been on trip driving through NSW and to Victoria and back, and I used to LOL witha friend about when I could get a call through. The problem is, is that it seems to be getting a lot worse. If I could get out of the vontarct today and swap to Optus or Telstra I would do immediately. But this always seems too hard to do

10194 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Mobile Broadband NO COVERAGE! at 4 Jan 2011 06:04:37 AM
for the last few months I have not been able to use my mobile broadband at home which is in a "Standard Coverage" Area, I keep getting EDGE (which does not work - but was told is better or did not exist depending who I spoke to) and HUSPA - which is slow & rarely works as well. I try connecting to 3G but it changes instantly to one of the above. I'm having to pay $19 a month to keep my download allowance, which is now about 5.5GB's!
At least I'm not stuck in a contract, but I don't want to loose $150+ worth of download credit!

10192 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Transfer from PostPaid to PrePaid - no phone for 24hours at 4 Jan 2011 04:55:25 AM
My daughter left for a year in Spain. I called on the day she left and they said it would take two hours to transfer from PostPaid to Prepaid and then all I had to do was to reCharge the phone. After three hours I couldn't ring 1555 from the phone - another 45 mins and four department transfers later I was told that due to a technical glitch it would be 24 hours before the phone would be useable. Daughter left with her useless phone. Fail, Vodafone. As soon as this is working I will transfer this account to another carrier. There is absolutely no advantage to staying with Vodafone. And with three other Vodafone accounts, all of which are having an incredible number of failed calls, I will be seeking to transfer. My sister and her three accounts are also leaving Vodafone due to the frequency of failed calls and delay in reception of SMS messages.

10189 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is bad 3G data performance at 4 Jan 2011 01:44:57 AM
Well I heard from a very trusted source Vodafone is replacing the whole ailing Nokia (NSN) 2G/3G network with a Chinese vendor who was half the price of the NSN bid. How is paying less money going to bring on better quality..it is all about Vodofone shareholders maximizing profits not maximizing customer experience..

The only problem is it will take 12 to 18 months to replace the whole network so I suspect more pain to come for some time.... based on the Chinese vendor's performance Vodafone will either have the best network in 18 months or be back to where we are today... big gamble to take with a Chinese low cost vendor....

Everyone is focused on Vodafone but friends of mine had similar network failures on Optus with the whole mobile network down for hours three weeks ago who also have the same Nokia/NSN network...maybe Optus will be next to follow....

In the past the Australian Communications Authority would publish percentage % of dropped and failed 2G call benchmarks for all 4 carriers. Since the three carriers built their own 3G networks the Australian Communications Authority has not bothered to force the carriers to publish their % of dropped and failed 3G 'voice' AND 3G 'data' calls?? Australian Communications Authority it is your job to look after the public objectively!!

If Vodafone wants to keep blaming their customers by saying it could be a handset issue why doesn't Vodafone make the first move and do what used to be done on the old 2G network by publishing monthly the percentage of dropped and 'failed' attempt voice calls and percentage of dropped packets, average data throughput and average latency for mobile 3G data calls? Vodafone transparency is the best honesty rather than pushing propaganda to your employees that everything is OK and this is just a beat up via the media!!

The technology is there today to track your 3G data performance, suburb by suburb, state by state publish it and raise the bar to Telstra and Optus to match you in performance with your published data for all your customers to see!

10188 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is sweet & sour at 4 Jan 2011 01:36:57 AM
I sit here typing this post thinking about the good & the bad experiences I've had with Vodafone. So 1st the positive. I live in the Sydney Metro area.I've been with Voda & Nokia since 1992. In that time I've always had a reliable mobile phone service with them. I've paid my bills & the reception was mostly ok with only a few grey areas of poor signal strength. Went to Cobar a few times (far west about 7 hours drive)& absolutely zero signal. Part of the 6% & 132,000 people that don't get Voda service (that's left to Telstra). In 2008 I bought a new PC & went with Vodafone with a broadband modem. On occassions I have had the need to converse with customer service. Enter the much dreaded Indian call centres. The waits on hold have often been beyond belief? That recorded voice LARA soothingly saying "won't be much longer we're flat out at the moment"? Somewhat hard to take after being in the Queue for 65 minutes. Sometimes I would do Basil Fawlty pround, swearing at LARA in frustration. Eventually my problems were sorted. Then came BLACK Tuesday 7/12/2010. Internet OUTAGE?(although my mobile ph. service was fine?) Oh no, I've got to deal with that LARA again. In total I consumed over 7 hours of time = Tu/Wed/Th/Fr. Occasionally I got through only to be told just a small technical problem & all should be ok SOON? I later found out, via IT media, that Vodafone was changing over to another main network provider & had struck major technical difficulties. The SMALL problem only affected the Eastern Seaboard States of Australia. I.E. Qld.,NSW, Vict.& Tas. ONLY? Well by Friday I'd had enough & went to Allphones & signed up with Virgin Broadband (Optus network)for 12 mths. Same 8GB deal & same price $39pm = $468 pa. One vital difference is with excess usage charges. Vodafail charge (sneekily) 10c a KB. Only 10 cents one thinks, big deal. Not so if you go a GB or two over in any month, which I did in Oct. & Nov. 2010. Also keep in mind that on the 8GB plan = about $5pm/GB return to Vodafail. Well I remember gasping on the total bills for Oct.& Nov. of $484 incl.GST. This was more than my total normal 12 mth broadband bill. Difficult to accept but as it was in the contract I was obligated to pay it. In contrast Virgin charge $15GB for excess useage abt 1/7th of vodafails. Then fear crept into my mind as I had to try & contact Vodafail & LARA in India again. This was to cancel the Broadband service(the contract period had expired) Well, another hour of my life was consumed & their on hold music is crap, distorted & repetitious. With LARA constantly assuring me once more "won't be long ....etc". If I ever meet any Laras in real life I'm not sure how I'll react? No doubt the real live laras would all be nice girls? Anyway I get through to someone, hooray at last. After getting grilled about the problem (5 minutes)it's sorry wrong section. Next section same thing another grilling & on to another department. Then Jackpot someone authorised to make decisions. Their attitude changed on the fact that I was cancelling one account & could also flick the off contract ph. a/c too. Maybe a lot of cancels were happening that week? In the wash up I was sweetened up with the full waiving of the Oct./Nov broadband bill & I was put on a 12 month $29 cap plan. The waiving of the fees,I feel, compensates me for all the pain & suffering I went through with LARA etc. The Virgin/Optus broadband works better = stronger signal & my VODA phone is good now too. Other things I note. Vodafail have increased their call charges. For me the old was $1min. now $1.35min. On my old service the bill showed 1,000 minutes of voda2voda calls. I was ineligible as was not on qualifying plan? Vodafail forget about loyal long term customers? As market forces see better plans evolve = more GB I found I was on the lower shelf. 2 years ago I was on 5GB for $39 internet. Then they were offering new deals of 6GB for $39. It was only when I asked (via THAT LARA AGAIN) that they gave me an exta FREE GB/mth. They sent me back slapping emails about how generous they were. It was the same deal when they upped it to 8GB. What I'd like to see is some sought of credit system on the monthly allowance that factors in well below cap usage. Like last year in total I used around 45GB out of a total allowance of 96GB. Acually that underusage is a bonus to them as they can resell my unused, 51GB, space again & therefore get a double dip? Australians pay through the nose for mobile services? I'll certainly be looking at better deals in 12 months or so. As with a lot of things you don't know the true value of service until something goes wrong. 2 cases here,1 is recalls with cars & their CEOs refusing to admit there is a problem? 2. Vodafail Aust. CEO playing down problems. Like I saw no announcement from Vodafail about their broadband network had failed in December? CEO speak always tries to play down gross operating problems. I think Vodafails quest for extra profit (cheaper operating networks & 3rd rate 3rd world call centres) is the root cause of most the problems users are discussing here. More oversight & regulation is needed.

Ive had my mobile broadband activated for a 2 days now and my service has cut out probably between 10-20 times. In the 2 years i was with 3, this might have happened 5-6 times. I go to call them tonight at midnight to find i have to call during business hours. Im not pleased at all and someone will be explaining to me why the service is so crap tomorrow when i call. 10183 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is 2 months of fail at 3 Jan 2011 10:07:03 PM
I recently upgraded to a new iPhone 4 with Vodafone. This replaced my old iPhone 3G. I have been trying to get the iPhone 3G unlocked so that I can give the phone to my girlfriend since her Optus phone is starting to mess up... I am unable to do this on the internet, presumably because during the 2 years I had my iPhone 3G, the button broke, and it was sent off to Apple to get fixed. They sent me back a new handset (obviously with a different IMEI number) and the Voda site doesn't seem to recognise the new IMEI for unlocking. Irritating, but understandable right?

Wrong!

I have called them 4 times (each time eventually getting to someone, each time being told that it will be sent to the 'unlock team' and they'll get back to me within 10 working days), gone into a store (who emailed the unlock team and CC'd me in, and then the 'unlock team' 'escalated' that email by forwarding it onto someone else), obviously tried online AND called Apple. Apple are able to see that I had one phone, sent it back, and was sent a new phone. They are able to see that I am with Vodafone. They informed me that "the call has to come from the telco for us to unlock it". Why on earth can Apple see exactly what I need, but Vodafone simply can't make that call?! This doesn't really involve money (yet... Let's bet that when I finally do get the phone unlocked, they'll charge me the full unlock fee because I didn't use their online service) I still feel that it is a absolutely awful customer service.

To be honest, I haven't had too much trouble with the actual network, but that might be because I pretty much always use wireless... And when I do use 3G on the odd occasion, it is quite slow, but since it's only occasionally I've always assumed that it was just because my wireless was faster... Apparently I was wrong.

Just got back (10.30 pm) from picking my wife and daughter up from the train back from Goulburn to Gosford. I was trying to call them, and they were trying to call me, for the whole journey, me to find out how they were travelling, and them, to tell me that they were 1 hour late. Finally got a call from them at 9.35, after I had met, and waited for the two trains (30 mins apart) that they had missed. Trip home is 30 mins, so just had to wait, fuming, while Vodafail droppped me straight to voicemail, and refused to send my SMS. They got dropouts, trying every five minutes from Goulburn, all the way to Strathfield on a coach, then at Strathfield station, and on the train until Hornsby, when they finally got a signal. This lousy company wasted 1 1/2 hours of my life, because their bloody network just doesn't work!

I have had nothing but bad reception since switching to 3, 1 year ago.

However, as of December 24th 2010, I have no 3G signal when I am at home IN NORTH FITZROY (which is close to the Melbourne CBD).

Also, my phone had been 'roaming' since the above date. I don't live in the country and my suburb is not a "high traffic area" at this time as most people are away on vacation.

They (3) have sent me on a wild goose chase and after 6-7 hours wasted trying to work out what the problem is, I still have to "wait" as the "technical people" are still on "Christmas break". I am so fed up, I want out!!!

Spent 3 days in Grampian after Christmas and had no reception for 3 days in Hall Gaps unless we went bushwalking up to the mountains. Very frustrating each time I went to Victorian countryside due to no reception in my iPhone 4. Even Optus has reception in Hall Gaps or any Victorian countryside. When I first got my iPhone 4, I did miss phone calls or voicemails from colleagues and friends. Very low reception in Doncaster, Lower Templestowe and Box Hill areas. My sister and her family members are also not happy with Vodafone reception when they have to move from 3 recently.
Hopefully Vodafone will do better in 2011.

Just a thought, You all realise that you can be with any telco without a contract, therefore free to chop and change between Telco's as you see fit. So what I am seeing on this site is a heap of people that cannot afford to buy a phone outright cause they want the latest gadget or simply have no money to buy a phone, so everyone shops around till they find the best deal and go with it, no research on coverage or the things that really matter , just as long as you have the best phone and I am guessing most of you, (I'll go out on a limb and say by most of you I mean at least 95% of you) don't read the terms and conditions etc on the contract you are signing cause you see a shiny new phone that is gonna make you look soooooooo cool to everyone!!! You all only have yourselves to blame.

Oh and to the nong that posted that the staff in the stores are to blame (please see a post further down the page under TAS), your wrong, they are paid to do a job and if you buy the product they have done their job, quite well it would seem, bit like a car sales men, they to sell lemons!!!

That is all :P
3 Jan 2011 08:02:48 PM: Well Said !!
3 Jan 2011 08:02:55 PM: You realise that even with a contract you can get out of it penalty free with the assistance of the TIO since the carrier (vodafone) is not providing the service they signed up for.

It is one thing to sign up to (and commit to) a service, but if they don't provide that service (ie coverage is terrible, sms/mms arrive hours to days later, constant dropped calls etc), they are well within their rights to get out of that contract with the assistance of the TIO?

That is all :)

Oh, and I do agree I think more people should buy their phones outright to avoid alot of these problems, but that doesn't mean a provider can charge you for something and then not provide it.

See how I made an entire post without the need to resort to childish name calling?
3 Jan 2011 08:04:18 PM: Well known fact, 95% of statistics are made up on the spot.
3 Jan 2011 08:06:58 PM: Have you not read many of the comments here saying customers asked specifically about coverage in their areas, was told it would be fine, only to find out otherwise? Also, Vodafone (management) themselves kept their employees in the dark about the true extent of the coverage issues so store employees could not give the right information - what research can ordinary non-telco industry customers do? I agree that Voda store employees are not to blame, but neither are customers.
3 Jan 2011 08:14:48 PM: P, you must have a phd in this sort of stuff. good on you. The other networks hand out the same shiny fones on contracts, but their networks function as they are meant to, Vodafones network is in a mess
3 Jan 2011 08:15:46 PM: P faked his phd
3 Jan 2011 10:20:58 PM: People take time to search for good deals and contracts for certain phones because its cheaper in expense in the long run. People do not just buy random phones just because it's cool, these days finance is all that matters to people.

If you take a look at a contracted phone you pay a certain amount a month until the contract ends. However if you buy a mobile outright you still have to pay a further 30 or so a month thus making outright/prepaid phones worth more than a contracted phone (that is, unless you buy a very cheap phone).
3 Jan 2011 10:52:14 PM: Apologies that should have read 'Well known fact, at least 95% of statistics are made up on the spot'.
4 Jan 2011 10:21:38 AM: Excuse me P, but putting your ridiculous unsupported assumptions on the percentage of the demographic aside, the statements on this forum claim that the sales staff misinformed people regarding things such as coverage. Therefore when customers get home to discover the contract they have signed up for does not deliver the service that was sold to them by said sales people then who's fault is it? The customers fault for not performing appropriate market research?

I think you will find that a lot of the "95%" you mentioned thoroughly shopped around for plans and deals, which on a basic consumer level is all a customer need do. The general customer does not expect to be lied to about the extent and limits of a service by a major telco so that a sale can be made.

I'm not saying the sales staff at Vodafone outlets are also to blame. These people are merely doing what they have been trained to do. If they were kept in the dark about these issues then I feel sorry for the staff. However, the customer is not to blame for a lack of market research when Vodafone have clearly been embellishing their service limits.

10163 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Full Reception yet WHY CAN'T I CONNECT TO THE INTERNET at 3 Jan 2011 07:01:46 PM
I have an iphone 4 on contract and a vodafone wireless modem which i purchased to use while up the coast on holidays. I get full reception except the connection continually drops out. I run a business and need to be in continual connection to the internet. i can't even access my emails or bank transactions. THIS IS POOR SERVICE
3 Jan 2011 07:55:15 PM: too many customers, the system cant cope, but they are aware of the problem, and as a result are furiously signing up as many new customers as possible, just to make sure that the problem is the system being overloaded

I and my wife are with vodafone we have had endless troubles since at least augst last year with phone drop outs, poor reception, mega slow download speeds. Recently getting worse with no coverage in Adelaide, my work at times can not get in touch with me, unable to connect to apple store and thats just the phones. I also have had epic issues with my wireless internet. with constant drop outs at random intervals atleast 10 times a day it fixes itself within five minutes but here i am paying top dollar for what essentially is woefull service.
3 Jan 2011 06:59:25 PM: adding to this i also had a call from myh wife a few days ago and when i answered there was this terrible ear piercing noise of what sounded like microphone feedback or fax machine/data modem noises.

My partner and I both brought new iphone4 and signed up with vodaflop for a $69 a month on a 24 month contract . And decided that we will no longer need a land line or Internet and the iPhone is what will do the job!!! Wernt we wrong!!! The reception is nearly always down to one bar ( I live in the Hobart area) my husband and I can't even hear each other when we call, noone overseas hears us while we try to talk to them and the Internet connection keeps also going in and out!!! And I have spoken to them over and over again to send me a bill the pay my account , it took them two months to send the first bill and have yet to send another it's also been another two months and still nothing!!! I'm now trying to find a way out of my contract and will never ever look at using vodaflop ever again!
3 Jan 2011 06:49:31 PM: Bugger, I can understand your frustration! Check out the 'how to complain link' at the top of the page...The TIO will no doubt be able to assist you out of your contract, but you need to follow all of the steps. Report back on how you go :)

10156 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Appalling at 3 Jan 2011 06:28:15 PM
I have already documented my many issues with Vodafone here - apart for a poor reception, poor data download, poor reliability, inability to bill correctly and having woefully inadequate systems and being in denial of the extent of their problems and not putting forward plans on how they will fix their problems they are great. Perhaps they can should have spent some of the money put toward sponsoring the cricket to actually improving customer service.

However I digress. For those interested here is an article on how the same kind of inattention to customers impacted AT&T Wireless in the early part of this decade in the USA. The full article to "Project Management: AT&T Wireless Self-Destructs" is available here http://www.cio.com/article/32228/Project_Management_AT_T_Wireless_Self_Destructs?page=1&taxonomyId=3198 - it is well worth a read and would be quite instructive to Vodafone management.
3 Jan 2011 06:55:00 PM: Reading the article now, fascinating stuff! Thanks for sharing. If only Voda execs saw this article when they made some key decisions since the merger.

I can almost visually see two mobile towers from my house, yet my reception is on 1 bar (HTC Desire HD, which to my knowledge does not have production faults like the Iphone 4) and my Internet coverage is nil, some places if I am lucky it will switch between 3G and Edge constantly which will grant limited net access... at the cost of my battery.

Strange thing is though... this seems to be a recent issue, been a Vodafone customer for atleast 5-6 years and only within recent months have I had these issues or heard about these issues. Possible they are having some sort of infrastructure failure or something?

10150 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is indescribably bad at 3 Jan 2011 05:41:43 PM
Im less than 2km from Adelaide, and my coverage is appalling at best. I moved from 3 to Vodafone and the receptin improved, and noww 3 are Vodfone it has returned to it low 3 values.

In response to this issue, I was asked to stay home lst Friday as techos would be coming out to see what the issue was - no techo's no friends from MMumbai calling, just $700 down the drain for not going to work.

I called today only to be told this was a "low service area" and basically, they would reduce my $99 unlimited cap by $30 for 3 months and compensate me for $50 for my wased day at home - that might be the average wage in Mumbai, but that is 1/2 an hour to me.

I'm once again heading back to the TIO, where I willget my day refunded and should be able to get a commesurate rate for the crap service provided.

After this it it to ACME, or to ACCC, what Vodafone is providing is a misleading service, these international telcos come in and are not prepared for the stranglehold Telstra has on our system and offer a service that can barely be described as adequate - they should be constrained to evplain to all potential customers what the quality of the lines are like. There should be a inimum standard for telcos in Australia - made easier by a split of Telstra's wholesale and retail arms.

There are few products that reach our markets that do not do what they say they do - why is it that Telcos are allowed to operate in this way

If youre having no luck with the powerless fools in Mumbai, call TIO - they give you a reference nuber which is the key to getting the compensation you ddeserve - if they cannot iprove their systems, lets bleed them dry so they are unable to operate in Australia. Democracy mmeans choice, lets gut these feckless bastards with are our choice
4 Jan 2011 09:31:24 AM: Unless we are in different universes,I very much doubt you will get one iota of compensation via the industry funded TIO, no matter what case and how much evidence you out to them. Not only that, you can expect to spend plenty of time and money as they do what they do, and you will not be compensated for that.In case you want to pursue it, I strongly recommend you keep really accurate records of all communication with the TIO and Voodoofone.

I was at a local restaurant in urban Sydney last night. I could not get any data down while connected to the 3G network. At first I thought it might be an issue with my iPhone 3GS, a number of friends at the restaurant also were with Vodafone and they were unable to get any data down either with full coverage.

After turning of 3G reception and using GPRS I was able to receive data.

I've been with Vodafone since 2002 and am happy to wait it out for another month or so as they really have been an excellent carrier and I've been impressed countless times in the past. I'll look elsewhere in a month if they cant get the basics right soon. As soon as they do get the basics right I'm sure their helpdesk call volumes will drop then they can get back to being a good carrier again.

Reception on my iphone 4 constantly cuts out even with the 'iphone - case'.

Even when I am on the phone to customer service they have to call me back on my landline due to the amount of drops outs and they just say they will note it down on their system.

I have tried resetting my network with the support of vodafone and it doesn't work! I have only recently started my contract with Vodafone :-( Two years of this.

3 Jan 2011 05:00:45 PM: The only thing this has to do with vodafone is that you're with them. The iPhone 4 sucks because of it's reception. If you were with telstra and there was an idiotic website like this one throwing off at them, I'd guarantee that you would complain there
3 Jan 2011 05:02:10 PM: Problem is the iPhone 4 works perfectly fine on every other network except for the Vodafone Network...Why is that?

I wonder what the IQ of the people actually complaining here is? Half can't even spell the provider they are with (LOL) and half seriously must just like complaining for the sake of it!

Sucks if you have problems, but so does very network. Optus sent me a bill for $500 last week and I have never been with optus, it had my number on it and my name :/
3 Jan 2011 04:54:24 PM: every*

No problems with my personal provider as it is not Vodafone, No dropped calls, sms/mms are sent and received straight away, coverage is the best in Aus.

However my work provider is Vodafone, and if I have anything to do with it (of which I do), that will be changing this year. Fed up with no coverage, calls dropping, sms/mms taking hours to days to receive.

The reason for you bill with Optus is most likely Vodafone anticipated you wanted a new provider (as with the rest of the Australian Public) and churned you over to the Optus network :)
3 Jan 2011 05:05:07 PM: You have a problem with Optus, then take is up with Optus. Don't spam sites that are clearly none of your concern. And maybe check your IQ before mocking others. If you had done so, you would realise that you made a handful of mistakes yourself and went on to complain about others, not to mention complaining on behalf of your own problems with another company. Just leave please.
3 Jan 2011 05:07:20 PM: This is a public forum, so you can't make me leave. Freedom of speech
3 Jan 2011 05:24:15 PM: Yes, a public forum dedicated to Vodafone customers, not people who have nothing better to do then making fun of others.
3 Jan 2011 05:25:06 PM: i dont get losers who come on sites that are obviously for one thing and they have to write the opposite. if you have no problem with vodafone why are you looking up vodafail?

ill give you a clue, its not us.
3 Jan 2011 05:30:18 PM: Who are you talking to? I never complained about people complaining. I am standing up for those people, as I am also one who has ongoing problems with Vodafone. I just wish people wouldn't use this site to mock others like you have.

Will give some credit to Vodafone for now. Tried an older phone (Nokia 6110 Navigator) on 3g and actually got quite good reception and not too bad internet speed. Used it as a modem for my PC too and performed well enough. Though the phone did have to be on a particular spot on the box for good reception.

Nokia is only a single band mobile (2100mhz), will set that specific band on my Xperia X1 and see if that helps as I usually have crap reception with the Sony Ericsson.
14 Jan 2011 11:09:25 PM: I posted this above, if you are using a so called smart phone in Tas.... As everyone wants the latest devices you are much better to leave the phone on 2G/GSM only. The reason for this is all smart phones and I have used a few seem to stall when switching from 2G to 3G the cutover does not happen quick enough and the signal drops out.
I'm not sure if this is because the manafactures of these devices be it Apple,HTC, Samsung, Sony etc are in to much of a rush when releasing the phones to test them correctly or if they are trying to pack to many "features" into the device? Maybe Blackberry have the right of it, most of their phones are 2G only....food for thought peoples

I'm on a very small $29 dollar vodafone plan and yet many of my phone bills when they come read over the $100 mark. They're tripling what I should be paying. My internet coverage is horrendous! The phone coverage all together has become a joke! Cuts out constantly during calls I make or receive. The biggest problem which has raised my bill to such enormous costs is text messages. I send one and the phone or the service sends about 10 of the same! Or it either doesn't send at all and just stays on the phone screen pending for hours! I've had enough! Changed my sim a dozen times, still hasn't fixed it! I knew it was either my phone and/or vodafone service coverage. But I can never get anything checked out or fixed properly without having to pay more and more! I now have to chase vodafone myself as they don't get back to you. I used to find vodafone so helpful and affordable, that's why I changed from the other big companies, but now vodafone has become just like the rest! Too big and disloyal to its customers! Shame. I really hope that action will be taken against vodafone as everyone is fed up. I'd gladly provide assistance.

My reception (when I can get it!) is poor - often dropping out and dying mid-call. Also, I can relate to the battery dying quickly thing and have had massive problems connecting to the internet.

I travelled up to Port Macquarie recently and majority of the way up the highway I had no coverage at all whilst my partner who is with another service provider had full coverage.
MMS messages are usually delivered in the early hours of the morning.
This coverage (or lack of) is not acceptable at all and I am seriously considering changing service providers.

This has been the most frustrating experience. After visiting my local vodafone service centre I was told that the CEO is aware of the problem and was told I to call 1555 or their 1300 to cancel my contract. After just over 30 mins on my mobile I hung up. I then used the shop one and waited a further 20 mins. During my time in the shop I witness vodafone selling another 3 mobiles and plans to people in the shop.Still with no luck and poor service from that end as well, I went home and called the 1300 from my landline while my mobile was charging. After waiting for 87 mins on one hand set and a further 54 mins ont he other yes they both wewent flat while waiting I was then told I was not speaking to the cancellation deapartment. I just couldnt beleive it. I said I have just been put through to cancellations." No mame what is your problem, so then I explained it again!I am unable to receieve phone calls the network says I am busy. I dont receive text messages until 8 hours or the next day after they have been sent. Someone was going to get back to me and they called me on my land line number when I was out ( How Convenient!) I have just called the 1300 back again and tried to cancellmy contract as they are in breach of their side of it. HOwever they wanted to charge me over 400 to pay out my contract I said no no. I politely explained to him that there is no cancellation policy as the company is in breach at their end and Im not going to pay for a service in which I dont receive professional coverage.I then expalined how Iwas with in my rights to go to the telecommunication ombudsman and make a formal complaint. Interesting enough the indian man on the other end said as long as I have a trail of evidence proving my claim I was with in my rights to do that. So it appears over in indias call centre they are more than aware of what has been happening but are full of excuses to offer me a free month while they fix my problem and they will get back to me.... You guessed it Im still waiting.
3 Jan 2011 05:49:21 PM: until the ACCC comes up with something through their investigation Vodafone haven't done anything wrong officially yet!
Graeme Samuels Head of the ACCC said that people are not within their wrights to just cancel there contracts and not pay, I'm sure given all the problems there is, they probably will in fact allow this to happen but until they do you cant just get out of stuff unless they let you themselves, and they probably aren't gonna do that.

Also if you don't want to speak to Indian call centers or have any issue with them you may want to consider not using a mobile at all as all 3 companies use Mumbai customer care lines

Phone says there's full reception, yet nobody can get through to my phone as it is "out of coverage". To try and make a call out, it takes maybe 6-20 goes as it will keep saying "call failed." I have a Vodafoney internet connection. Usually late at night the data speed to my Vodafoney broadband internet slows to the stage where there is no data transfer or the data rate is so slow that it is unusable. Some days I am not even able to logon. Further I am in a major capital city, where you would expect the coverage to be good! They have not provided the service and must be in breach of their service provision contract. This week I intend to call the Telecommunication Industry Ombudsman (TIO) and get out of my contract. I have a small internet business and it makes running my business very difficult. I thought that after the Casualties of Telecom (COT - so called COT cases) saga of about 20 years ago that phone companies in Australia would have got it!!

I always have between none to 1 bar of reception at my place of residence well within the coverage map and always get incurred roaming data charges - once I had a $400 phone bill in where $300 was roaming data usage. They sent someone out to check if it was a reception failure and called me back 3 days later and said there was adequate coverage.... Yehhh right - I had a go at them so they gave me a lifetime $10 credit every bill (to me this would seem they agree there is inadequate coverage)
3 Jan 2011 02:30:51 PM: I had a high charge from Vodafone and I spoke with the TIO and got out of it. They gave me a high charge on bill (almost 4 times the normal account). Under the uniform credit code in Australia, credit providers (such as phone companies) must tell you if you are racking up a high bill. Because they did not do this in my case, I got my 4 times bill discounted to the level of my normal bill. Hope this helps.
3 Jan 2011 02:32:15 PM: There is 2g Voda national roaming on to Telstra in some parts of Vic and Tas but I am not aware of any roaming arangement in ACT.

10107 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Is it true? at 3 Jan 2011 02:03:21 PM
that we can get out of our contracts as they are not meeting their end of the contract IE providing service so we can use the network etc.. therefore I can say BYE BYE or is it just wishful thinking

3 Jan 2011 02:10:03 PM: It is not wishful thinking and others have been 'let' out of their contracts without having to pay the full penalty of the time remaining. However, every individual case is different and there is no guarantee the same will happen to you. See 'How to Complain' page on this website for more information on your options. Best of luck.

Vodafone should spend some money fixing up their network instead of spending so much money on advertising at all the sporting events & on t.v.
3 Jan 2011 01:57:21 PM: thats so true
3 Jan 2011 04:38:47 PM: Do you also agree they should stop giving money to charity sporting events? Do you even have a heart?

10098 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is total fail at 3 Jan 2011 12:49:35 PM
When I lodged my complaint today they asked for specific locations where it drops out and where I experience network failure (phone dosent ring, no 3G etc) they said each was a single and new complaint that I would have to lodge. So if went to the beach and my phone failed -- new complaint. If I took the dog for a walk and phone didnt ring and I just got a voice message --- new complaint.
I told the guy if this was a joke and he said no. So my complaint just covers my home.
Why dosent Vodafone have more staff on to cover these high customer demands. Spend my whole day on hold.
3 Jan 2011 02:17:36 PM: that is the same problem i have had and they say i have to pay the money to cancel my contract ha vodafone is a joke

10092 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is FAIL! at 3 Jan 2011 12:38:22 PM
Ok so, used the call back option & they called back, spent the next hour & 5 min on the phone of which half I was on hold for. Got transferred to 4 diff departments for each problem I am having

1) No internet reception from internet mobile stick at home or at work (I live IN TOWN) - Solution - Apparently the coverage at my unit is good (it is non existant - I lie - I do get to see one internet page every 10 mins- WOHO) So they have "escalated" the problem and I get to hear back with-in 72 hours.

2) Emergency calls only at home from Cell Phone - Solution - put my sim in another persons mobile and if it doent have the same problem then I may get a replacement handset - last time I checked every other cell provider stocks "Samsung" phones, hmmmmmm do you really think it is the brand new handsets fault?!?!

3) I am unable to contact Vodafone Via the Free 1555 from my VODAFONE handset and havent been able to after telling them twice in the last 6 months of my new contract - Solution - Escalated problem will call me back with-in 72 hours.

4) Seen as I have had to ring the 1300 from my mobile due to not being able to ring the 1555 free number I would like the amount of credit I have had to use calling them due to their fualt of not loading the 1555 number on my phone - I presume - All credited back to me. Solution - HUNG UP ON!!!!

*Waits grumpy but patiently for results*
3 Jan 2011 12:43:06 PM: I just got off the phone to them (3 hours in total) issue has been upgraded to Networks to look into it so I can then talk to contracts to get it cancelled. Two departments and they tried to put me off to the iphone people for a chat cause it wouldn't connect to the internet in 3G (which is the basis of my complaint... no 3G network)... no I too wait the 72 hours for their investigation.
3 Jan 2011 02:23:07 PM: im having the same problem and am told to wait 72 hrs for an investigaton as well how does vodafone think they are going to get that many workers out to these suburbs for each person in 72hrs they most likey wont and just look at the coverage on the net
4 Jan 2011 12:42:23 AM: I live in Brisbane city and im having my internet connection cut out every half an hour or so....sometimes even more. I will be calling to complain tomorrow during business hours. Id go back to 3 anyday. Ive only had the service for 2 days and im already complaining!

I have a plan with voda phone. the coverage is very bad and continually drops out despite the sales team insistance this sort of thing does not happen with their product (!!!) I have experienced problems with their billing very much a thing of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing!! I moved my number as it is mynumber I bought with me and a business number and they were threatening to shut it off. I have continued to pay my account but they r refusing to reinstate the number and are trying to charge me an exit fee despite the account not being closed and continued paymnet. I am unhaqppy on all levels with them but mostly about their attempts to blackmail the consumer!!!!

10086 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Lousy ! at 3 Jan 2011 11:59:22 AM
I am living in a suburb no further away than 25 mins from the heart of Brisbane. All my friends with Optus or Telstra have reception, I do not. I am NOT in a hole, a valley, surrounded by units.....I am just another customer who has limited reception. I have travelled the highway and get reception in small country places, but not in a Brisbane suburb. ABSURD !!! I have missed important phonecalls as a result. It doesn't matter where I stand, my backyard, frontyard, driveway...a BIG FAT NOTHIN' ! You suck Voda***** !

10077 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is horrible fail in Preston at 3 Jan 2011 10:40:25 AM
I live in Preston - 9kms from the CBD in Melbourne. I have to sit beside a particular wall in my house to get reception, and even then experience multiple drop outs per call. If I have a long call e.g. to my parents - I have experienced up to 8 drop outs over the course of 40 minutes. Also, sometimes I don't get voicemails for a couple of days. It is killing me.

10075 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Payment system Fail at 3 Jan 2011 10:26:04 AM
Im caught in the same mess many, many people are in.
I am currently on a 12month contract with vodafone. I received a txt saying that my bill is due on the 24th Dec 2010. I paid my bill in full on the 22nd. However, thanks to a system failure, the network never registered my payment, so my phone has "Call Baring" on, which means i cannot make calls, use the internet or send txt messages.

I used my mobile as my primary form of contacting people, and there couldnt be a worse time to not send a txt to family and friends for the Christmas/New Year break.

Thanks

10068 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Epically at 3 Jan 2011 09:51:08 AM
Just recieved a important call, im at home in my house, and have supposedly full bars of reception and my call kept dropping out, i could barely hear the other person i had to keep walking around the house to find somewhere so i could hear, most of the conversation was "what?" "i cant hear u"
not impressed. for some reason i always assumed it was other peoples phones, but its happened so reguarly lately its obviously mine.
websites take forever to load. IF they load. usually have to refresh a million times. wont load certain sites like facebook ever. really frustrating as i keep in touch with a lot of people on there who live overseas as its cheaper then ringing.
Dont receive most calls, i get lots of voicemails when the phone was sitting next to me and never rung.
this is pathetic.
The only thing i want a phone for is to be able to use the phone, i dont care about all the fancy features. just want a simple phone that i can ring and reciever calls and with vodafone i dont have that, its a waste of money.
Still have 8 months on my contract. ughh
3 Jan 2011 09:52:38 AM: Also have been in lots of situations where i need to call someone and have had no reception at all, usually have to borrow someone elses phone. Worries me when im driving alone at night and if i break down im screwed

10063 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is A complete and utter fail at 3 Jan 2011 09:29:44 AM
We have 3 business iPhones using the VFail network, for calls, email, Skype, web surfing and Calendar sync. For at least the last 6 months, we've been unable to rely on them to support our business, as calls drop out (or even more often just don't ring at all), email takes hrs to come in, using the web is unbelievably, frustratingly slow and trying to sync over the network is pointless. VFail currently decides this level of service is worth $280 a month! The best part is that when we DID get through to customer service (yes, you've guessed it, somewhere on the Indian sub-continent, to someone whose first language wasn't English), they offered us a $30 discount - which equates to them saying their service is only 10% worse than it should be!! Telstra, here we come...

bought a Vodaphone BB USB modem for travelling. Checked coverage for my destination which claimed to be fine, but its not. Drops out a lot, flaps a lot between 3G & HSDPA; and at times the modem takes forever to be recognised by the computer. Really just not reliable enough for regular use. Pity.

A friend and myself were out in Milton just before the new year both on brand new iPhone 4's. He is on vodafone I on telstra. We both had full bars of 3G reception and we both tested our internet service going to the same website. NOT surprisingly his vodafone service failed to download anything whilst mine went on happily and hastily. I've never been a vodafone customer but im glad I'm not and I do feel for the subscribers having all these issues. GG VF

10051 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is no help from outlets at 3 Jan 2011 08:36:37 AM
Incoming calls now go straight to message bank when I have full service, voice mail left comes in 1 to 2 hours late and when you call to get the voice mail it says it cant connect to get it. Out going calls fail to connect or take 1 min to connect. Visited the Erina Fair Vodafone store this morning their solution is to dissolve their affiliation with vodafone and say any complaint have to be directed to them. They changed my sim card and put my 3G iPhone on the 2g network saying they don't know when their 3G towers will be fixed but that should solve the problem. So I'm now paying for a 3G network and forced to use 2g so my phone works.

10050 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extremely poor at 3 Jan 2011 08:31:04 AM
Only been with vodafone for 2 months. Have had to call customer support for porting issues and billing issues about 10 times. Previously I was with Optus, Soul, and TPG mobile. I hardly ever had to call them.

The network is likewise poor. In Metropolitan Melbourne, the coverage is patchy and unacceptable for such a large telco.

I've been with Voda for 5 years, having purchased my handset and plan, prior to travel. Needless to say I found that it was a white elephant. Coverage seems only to work in major metro areas or the ski fields. Receiving bills by email when VF went paperless has also been a problem - perhaps clueless applies. When I tried to get in touch by phone, website or email they were uncontactable. I have given up and will soon port to another telco.

Bought Vodafone prepay mobile broadband as I was told by the sales person that Vodafone had coverage in the Glossodia area. After 2 sim cards and many hours on the phone to the Vodatech`s, still not working. tomorrow will be the fourth trip into town to try and get a refund. Also have my mobile phone with Three for several years now, my phone had better service before the two merged. Vodafone please get your shit together...

I am sick of low coverage and no or little service.
3 Jan 2011 07:44:42 AM: You just wont listen will you? you only need to waste aprox 1 hour once, to be told to turn fone off, remove sim, reinsert sim, turn fone on. It is so easy to remember, such a simple process fixes absolutely everything. Doesnt it? I think its called a vodafix
3 Jan 2011 07:51:35 AM: The point is no one should have to do that. You don't have to do that on other networks.
3 Jan 2011 07:59:14 AM: it was a joke, customer service get you to do that to get you to hang up and turn your fone off. That process actually fixes very little.
It makes as much sense as you car not working and the nrma telling you to get the passengers to swap seats
3 Jan 2011 08:20:54 AM: BEFORE RINGING CUSTOMER CARE
**TURN FONE OFF
**REMOVE SIM
**PUT SIM IN
**TURN FONE BACK ON
that way you can tell them "thank you but I have tried that and it isn't the solution"

10042 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Completely at 3 Jan 2011 07:09:04 AM
No service at all in Ngunnawal since last night. Called this morning to initially be told that there are no network issues in the ACT. A few minutes later after resetting my iPhone I was asked for my postcode, only to be told that there *are* network issues in Ngunnawal (where I live), Amaroo and Casey and that they have no idea when they'll be fixed. I put my simcard in my old Nokia and am at least able to get/ make calls, but nothing with a phone which has a newer network usage.
3 Jan 2011 07:14:14 AM: It's a 3G issue, as 2G works fine.
