26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

10863 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is call dropouts, random loss or reception, internet decides when it wants to be there or not be there... FAIL at 6 Jan 2011 10:43:02 AM
i can be on the phone and without any reasoning a call will dropout.
other instances 3g and internet just dont exist, or i get a stupid repeating message timeout, lost internet connection, (i'm on there alot as an ebayer)
i can randomly receive messages half a day later than when they were sent, and sometimes get the next one first,

BUT best of all, when my phone is with me (always) and i have plenty of so called reception, people will attempt to call me (also with plenty of reception) and the call will go straight to voicemail (without any call divert on)
i have only made the jump to voda from optus prepaid,
voda have been ok dont get me wrong but is there a better network provider out there?
anyone with any suggestions that live in the kingsgrove area in sydney?

10859 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is very bloody poor at 6 Jan 2011 10:38:00 AM
I am using a vodafone usb stick for internet access and to send txts and have had no end of trouble with coverage, after being advised that I could not get a usb stick that could be connected to an aeriel for better coverage(and offering to pay for it myself) , I discovered thru a friend that this was possible and have since purchased one- the coverage is not much better though!!! Also after getting bloody Lara on the fone every time I called no matter what the time ,I finally got onto a customer service person , to find out why I could not get reception in Townsville-North Queensland, which is the 2nd largest city in Queensland, they advised me to go to a different suburb , as the one I was in wasn't covered by their network, which I duly did and surprise , surprise - still no coverage,I have since bought a usb stick with an aerial connection and aerial and have tried nearly every suburb in Townsville and got no coverage at all !!! I am very disappointed in their coverage , as this was not mentioned to me when I purchased the plan , and what is even more frustrating is that it is nearly impossible to get thru to Vodafone to speak to a person, without getting stuck with bloody Lara for at least 1/2 an hour.
7 Jan 2011 09:42:09 AM: My vodafone usb stick has been incredible slow for the past 2 weeks and even drops out from time to time. In the usb help area it states that if you change the network setting to 3g only this should help but it doesn't. this is so annoying not having internet as I use the internet for my job.

10857 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is looks like a bit of a vodafail communication breakdown at 6 Jan 2011 10:24:30 AM
So i spoke to Vdafail in regards to reception issues again at in my suburb (as i was at home and getting txt message that were like 2-4 days old and dropping out of calls) got stupid Lara the first three times but selected to use keypad option in which once selected the option i needed got:

"looks like were having technical difficulties, I am sorry, you will need to hang up and call back"

In which 4th time was lucky!! after some changes being made to my iPhone, i asked to be put through to billing in which the adviser said he would do so, but put me through to another dep as i was 0.24cents over my last bill and was owed, then told to ring back and speak to billing the usual way.

Did that, got put through to the same dept and eventually got where I needed to be to only have the guy try and upsell me to a different plan which would have reduced what i got on my current plan. After saying no i didn't want that, adviser spoke to supervisor and got half knocked off my bill. Still had to pay under $50 (which i didn't mind really) but for all the stuff around I got, you have got to be kidding me!

Looks like a bit of a vodafail communication breakdown to me

10856 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is its fairly ok at 6 Jan 2011 10:18:08 AM
I have three, a cap plan for my phone, a talk and text for the wife, and a plug in dongle thingy for when away with the laptop. Coverage is fair, or a bit better than fair really, though crap in the house as we live near the sea. The 3G coverage is sproradic outside of Sydney where I don't live. The promise that would be very fabulous in 3-6 months 4 years ago has proved hollow.

I just got three messages for my Birthday, a few hours after they were sent.

To get what I have from "T" a company who keeps telling me their coverage is almost perfect I would need to shell out and extra 250-400 a month - that is more than double my spend with "V".

On balance I am fairly OK on Vodafone. Not perfect, but generally OK. Certainly value for money, and a company I enjoy dealing with. Most of the staff I have dealt with in the retail outlet in Charlestown would get bonus points from me for excellence in customer service. It is probably value and customer service that has kept me happy. I do have a level of stickability, but with technology developing, I would like to see Vodafone follow the old Ansett motto of "we try harder".

I don't want my phone to take photos, play music, guide me, be my GPS, be my note-taker, web-browser, calculator or cad drawing package. I want my phone to connect reliably, and deliver messages on time. These are the two areas where I believe Vodafone have the most room for improvement.

10846 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 6 Jan 2011 09:26:37 AM
I have consistently not been able to make or receive calls either at home or work in Canberra - with about a twenty minute drive between the two of them.

Called VodaFail on 22/12, told them I was signing up to a new plan that afternoon as I couldn't handle not having reception until after Christmas and was told they would call me back in 3 days to discuss getting out of my contract, on the alternate number I provided them with.

4/1 - they called me back on my vodafone number - not the alt. number that I told them to call given that I couldn't receive calls on my vodafail number. Now I've been told I need to wait on hold for over 30 minutes or wait for them to call me back in half an hour - most likely to have nothing fixed again.

And they're half an hour call back time is laughable - last time it was closer to three hours!

Bad coverage, drop outs, unable to use the internet to check anything, the customer service used to get street directions (when unable to access google maps due to connection issues) costs an absolute fortune and even then the directions, are at best, completely unable to be deciphered. Angry customer here, what a waste of money!!!!!!!! The only reason i'm still with them is because I am on a contract. The worst bit is that my handset sucks....i called to buy an iphone and got COMPLETELY talked out of it and into a Samsung Jet because iphones were out of stock. The sales guy totally sucked me in. UNHAPPY!!!

10840 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is absolutely disgusted at 6 Jan 2011 09:10:08 AM
i first had problems with service in march 2010. when i rang them and reported the problem i was connected to an overseas operator that had no comprehension of the problem and told me that vodafone were experiencing problems with an under sea(water) cable that had been cut. I was baffled with how an undersea cable had anything to do with a domestic mobile service. I am now quite irrate as i have been on the phone for approx 50 minutes and was paying wages for someone to cover for me while i am trying to sort out this mess, My phone is used for business and because i have no reception i have to ring vodafone from a land line, i demand to speak with a supervisor. this is not granted and i am told that the problem would be solved in a couple of weeks. with this i now ring and put in a formal complaint with the telecommunication ombudsman's office. The girl there was in disbelief when i told her the excuse made by vodafone. and recorded the complaint. within an hour i had vodafone call me and confirm that they were over loaded and had to reroute calls through different towers to keep up with demand. I told them that this is not acceptable with terms of the contract that i had signed and that they were in breach of contract and would seek legal advise over the matter. instantly i was told i would not be billed for the previous month or the current month.
now for payback. my business sells phone credit and i had informed them that i was sick of customers complaining about poor reception so i did what i thought any person would do and started handing out the ombudsman's number and encouraging people to register formal complaints

I signed up for a two year contract with vodafone, consequently paying for a phone I can hardly use. Every call drops out at some point. If a am lucky to get a few minutes of call time, the reception breaks up so it's nearly impossible to have a conversation. Crazy Johns showed me the vodfone coverage map and told me I would have 'no problem'. I could hardly use my phone between Adelaide and Queensland (even though we stayed on main highways); nothing in Coffs Harbour; and the Gold Coast coverage is dreadful.

10838 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is a Massive Fail at 6 Jan 2011 09:07:26 AM
I have been a Vodafone customer for over 10 years. I never had this much problems, the last few months have been plagued with dropped calls, no data connections. The area where I live (Hurstville) seem to be a massive black spot! even GPRS data converage is minimal and even that keeps dropping out.

Similar things happen in North Sydney and that area has one of the best coverage from my experience.

I have to constantly turn off Data connection and turn it on again to re-established connection and that's no guarantee that the connection will hold.

Disappointed!

Will be moving to Optus if these issues are not fixed soon!

After getting a call from Vodafone for our business mobile saying we can save you $40 a month we changed 23/12/10 that even took a while. We have no reception in our house which being a small business the calls are made from little else in the rural areas! It has has taken hours & days speaking to many different people only to be told the mobile is not listed under business & you go to the bottom of the que again. Finally today they ahave raised a trouble ticket and someone will call us Monday!!! So much for small business people trying to make a living.

10834 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Dropped calles, limited coverage, Pathetic data rates at 6 Jan 2011 08:52:09 AM
I shot a video about Vodafone's performance is an average situation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY2Hf44LOoc

My story: I signed up for Vodafone about 18 months ago because my girlfriend was a big fan and we both got the $69 iPhone 3g plan when it became available.
We lived in Randwick (6km from the CDB) but we had problems with the coverage straight from the beginning. Basically I couldn't make a call inside my apartment without a dropped calls. As for using the internet it was constantly changing from 3 bars through GPRS (2.5G) to No service and back.
Back than I was a student and I didn't use the phone too much at home so it was fine, however I noticed it was gradually becoming less reliable and slower and slower to a point when when the internet totally become unusable at peak times.
My girlfriend decided to quit her contract she contacted Vodafone 4-5 times waiting someone from customer service to answer the phone for hours. At the end Vodafone let her go so now she is with Telstra. You cannot compare the the quality of the two services. No drop calls, customer service in 3 minutes, internet is about 10x faster download and 30x faster upload speeds.
I often have to use her phone to look things up and make calls.

Disclaimer: I used to be a Vodafone employee in Europe working for the network support team. While I was there Vodafone did exactly the same, it offered unlimited GPRS internet for cheap. Within 2 months the data service was unusable. The funny thing is most of us didn't have phones with GPRS, so we couldn't test it on the field.
I guess it is the same here. I suppose most Vodafone employees have blackberries. They are also located in Chatswood where I guess coverage and the 3G performance is great.

6 Jan 2011 12:11:12 PM: Nice work on the video ;-)

All the best with getting out of the vodafone contract. Ive kept away from contracts for over 2 years now since my experience with 3. I pay up front and when they fail us like vodafone is now we can wave bye bye without ever having to ring them and be messed around for hours :-)

10833 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is How fail was George Bush? at 6 Jan 2011 08:51:48 AM
Ive woken up today to call barring on my phone. 2 weeks ago i recieved a reminder text from Vodafail advising that my bill was over due and paid the full amount requested. After 6 attempts with 'Lara' to contact a person ( no matter what option I chose after saying call barring I was referred to making a payment ) I spoke with another inept Indian who informed me that the payment had been recieved but that the amount that vodafone originally requested was incorrect and that their is currently $118.64 overdue. This number sounded familiar so while on the line I checked my current bill - $118.64 and due in 5 DAYS! When I tried to explain to this to the call centre operator he just could not grasp the concept. When I asked him to explain why, when he can confirm that the amount that was overdue he agrees has been paid, my phone still has barring activated the only response i can get out of him was that ' the 118.64 must be paid in full before the barring can be lifted.' When I asked to speak to a supevisor he informed me that there was no need as he was equipped to handle my query. When I explained to him that he wasnt he told me that I could either pay the bill or call back and speak to customer service - and wait in line again. I will not be paying this bill and I will certainly be trying to recoup some of the money I have paid over the last month for access to a network that barely has coverage and even then rarely makes it through a call. Screww you Vodafone, I really hope someone blows you up!

10832 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible and disapointing at 6 Jan 2011 08:51:43 AM
I have been with Vodafone since getting a phone years ago. After returning from overseas i again went back to vodafone, what a mistake!!!! My phone is forever telling me it has a 'connection error' when trying to call out - it generally takes 4-7 attempts to call someone before it dials through. Too bad if its an emergency!!! I have the text missed calls option - when people attempt to phone me it states that the phone is unavailable (mind you this is while im at work in the CBD). Text messages are sent with a delay and I will recieve picture messgages sent to me days later - upto 4 is the longest currently and thats if they are recieved at all.
I travel regularly to Coffs Harbour - according the the Vodafone website and newtwork coverage zones there is a great deal of service - i cannot recieve calls or send text while there. I travel southward and get on the highway returning to Sydney only to have texts come through while i'm in the middle of nowhere! Go figure!!!
Billing!! After making payments to my monthly bill I will still recieve texts saying I owe money and my phone will be disconnected, when calling 1555 it will say my outstanding balance is still the amount with no credit. When calling I wait 20mins then request a call back 'to my surprise 4 hours later they call me only to advise that yes my payment was recieved.
For such a large network company I dont understand how things can go so wrong. Vodafone was once a great provider but now ' bring on my contract coming to an end!!'
Lets all hope Vodafone listens to its customers and does something about it before 'Vodawhat'

10828 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Incredibly. at 6 Jan 2011 08:33:46 AM
I have been with Vodafone with my mobile phone for about 12 months now.. and I thought I was alone.. Constant drop outs.. 3G internet on my phone barely works.. I lose all reception/signal in metropolitan areas during my 30 minute train ride into the city each morning.. I joke that MMS messages may take up to 72 hours to reach their destination - but it's no joke at all. I have SMS blocks - for example a 4 hour block where no SMS messages come in or out - then I receive them all at once, sometimes these SMS messages have been quite urgent, but when the sender tried to phone me, they thought my phone was off because that robot lady told them it was turned off. But it wasn't, as far as I knew I was in full reception.

This is an on-going, constant issue since I started using Vodafone, I just figured I had to sit tight and deal with this severely inferior and inadequate service.

It's truly disgusting.

I have been with Vodafone for over 8 years, and I can not believe the current issues I have had. I know that I have lived in the same house for over and then all of a sudden I coudln't get reception.
To make it worse, I had a massive backlog of texts and voice messages come through all at once... days later! Which meant that I was uninformed of an important birth, in which I found out 3 days later, I should have been at the hospital days before!
Not to mention having an enormous impact on business and personal responsibilities.
I couldn't bare it anymore, was having too much of an impact... I have since changed providers. Thankfully my contract had finished, but the last few months paying for a unreliable service has made things disasterous!
Now to clean and patch up Vodafone's mess they have created.

10820 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Woeful at 6 Jan 2011 07:52:56 AM
We have two mobiles and wireless 'broadband' with Vodafone. We've had monumental dramas with Vodafone, but mainly with little or no reception on the Central Coast. Vodafone (India) told me their coverage map was designed for 'marketing purposes' and not a true indication of actual phone reception. They reduced our internet fee from $49pm to $9pm after being told this was against the law in NSW. Yesterday our phone bill was reduced because Vodafone are 'upgrading their network in Terrigal/Erina for the next month' (although they don't advertise this on their site). We look forward to our contracts ending.

My girlfriend changed to Telstra (from Vofafail), and the service is unbelievably good! No dropouts anymore, fast data, very good reception wherever you go..
Everytime i use my phone and it drops out, or is slower than connecting to dial-up, she shows me her phone and, my gosh.. full bloody reception each and EVERY time!
Vodafone, time to wake up. You have 2 months before i switch to Telstra.

10814 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Badly fail at 6 Jan 2011 07:15:58 AM
bad reception on the line from glenfield to Sydney CBD. and also the data usage is poor as well - whats the point of having 2GB a month if I can't utilise it all, at best i'm lucky to even have used 100MB a month out of the 2GB.

i work for telstra and whilst they might charge more for their plans, I can say that they are the best network in australia and even my work mobile gets more cover than my personal voda mobile
6 Jan 2011 07:18:14 AM: Agreed, Telstra's NextG network rocks :)
6 Jan 2011 07:19:33 AM: if only they had cheaper plans with more calls and data then the whole of australia would flock to telstra
6 Jan 2011 07:19:35 AM: If Telstra actually became more price competitive, they would have 75%+ of all mobile customers....It is only for the fact they are so expensive that they only have about 50% market share.
6 Jan 2011 07:47:16 AM: Agreed with all of the above.. but Telstra are making their plans better and better every time! So keep an eye out, im sure you're bound to find something to your liking! Vodafone = FTL.
6 Jan 2011 08:00:39 AM: I know I made the switch after 8 years!!!
6 Jan 2011 12:08:34 PM: I think one of the reasons Telstra is so much more expensive, is that it costs them a lot to provide the coverage in remote(unprofitable) areas. They are also subject to a Service Delivery ""thing"- they get fined if they don't address a service problem within a time frame- that costs money.I wish the same thing existed with dealing with customer problems. It is two weeks since I contacted Telstra about charges wrongfully applied to my landline bill and they haven't contacted me by phone or email.
And there is also the simplest reason- many people stay with them because it is daunting trying to sort out what's what from all the mobile phone plans and possibilities and "familiarity breeds contempt" and Telstra is probably charging people for their inertia.I would suggest this is why Commonwealth Bank customers also have much higher fees, and fewer features, associated with their accounts.
And, Telstra also has costs associated with importing a CEO and having to pay him to go away.

We have 6 mobile phones in our family 5 connected to Vodafone (4 on plan) and 1 to Telstra. While away in Jervis bay the Telstra phone had constant and full reception. 4 of the 5 vodafone (the ones on plan) had little to no reception and absolutely no data. The one phone that had somewhat good reception was the little $140 prepaid phone but no data. The other 4 phones that had little or no reception 2 x iphone 4, 1 x Samsung Galaxy 1 x Samsung all contract phones.. So maybe if the little cheap prepaid has reception we all need to change over to prepaid and get better coverage? Typical get punished for being on plan!

Though, now this website has made it possible for people to see they are not alone, Vodafone's dirty little secrets about it's performance are out, and now something will need to be done, perhaps by the ACCC, because the tactic of frustrating and f*cking with people until they just give up and put up with it until the end of their contract cannot work any longer.

10806 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Unacceptable at 6 Jan 2011 06:38:24 AM
I depend on my mobile phone as my major communication method. However, reception is poor to non-existent in both my home and my places of work (inner Sydney and the inner suburbs of Sydney). Text messages take up to 36 hours to come through.

Repeated logged calls via email with Vodfone have resulted in them NOT giving me any helpful advice (e.g. answering a specific question with a tenuously related piece of boilerplate text from their website). Or my questions are simply not acknowledged at all.

I've tried to call Vodafone during times when I've had enough signal strength but that resulted in
(a) being on hold for longer than I can stand;
(b) speaking to somebody who just could not answer the questions.

This is a PAID "service" for which I am not getting an acceptable level of service.

10805 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Major Fail at 6 Jan 2011 06:35:04 AM
Been on a plan for 18 months now, counting down the days that I can change to a service that will give me coverage. I am in Dapto, most of the time I am lucky to get a couple of bars but that does not stop dropped calls from happening. If I am downstairs in my house I have to sit the phone over by a window to get any reception at all, if someone calls me I then have to run upstairs before answering or I will lose the call. 3G, HA! If I stand on one leg and wave my arms towards the Sun God Mardok while uttering a chant maybe, otherwise forget about it.

Haven't had any reception in Boondall for almost a week, when I drive 15 minutes out to surrounding suburbs I attain 1 bar of connection if I'm lucky and then all of my text messages appear. Lord knows how many calls I've missed.

After several experiences of ringing the Vodafail call centre in India, I have wised up to their various excuses to try and make me think a)this is a localised problem just happening in my area b) my phone may be faulty - switch it off, take the battery out and try again (and of course, lose your call to the call centre) c)I am one of the few Vodafail customers who is having ongoing problems. Don't listen to these excuses, tell them up front that you know about the NATIONWIDE debacle that is called the Vodafone network, that there are more than 10,000 people who have already signed up on this website and are ready to take a class action and that you want a credit for every month the service continues to be crap!

10784 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Disgustingly slow "Broadband Coverage" at 5 Jan 2011 10:02:37 PM
I live in the Adelaide metropolitan area and have been with Vodafone (Mobile Broadband) for 6 months. When I checked the coverage calculator on the Vodafone website before signing up for the contract they showed my house was in "Standard Coverage Area". Their standards speeds are pretty slow on the ocassions when it connects. Other networks work well and at good speeds from my house.
I have been trying to contact Vodafone to disconnect the connection but have been kept on hold for extended periods (more than an hour at times).
I have finally sent them an email and requested that they discontinue the service and decided to hold payments to Vodafone till they respond to my request.

Took a holiday in Moreton Island, and of course no connection almost everywhere!
One of my rooms I have some connection for calls but Internet is hopeless!
What angers me, that according to their coverage map this area should have both cellular and Internet, but of course this is not the case!
The other issue which seems interesting to me is that in some places is shows Edge connection, but when I try to open any page says no connection.
6 Jan 2011 01:30:50 PM: umm its morten island...not the centre of brisbane. go get telstra if you want the coverage out there u tight ass

10780 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is I havent used my phone in a year !!! at 5 Jan 2011 09:47:11 PM
1.5 years ago I purchased a blackberry storm from the local Vodaphone store in Armidale NSW. I was assured it had all the same features as an iphone including (I was very clear) wifi capability.
two days later I returned to the store, the phone was rubbish reception was horrendus (even in the centre of armidale I lose reception) and I couldnt find its wifi capability something I required for work. I was assured it was there and to check online. After two and a half weeks of argueing with the store about the phones lack of feature equality with the store I was told to call Vodaphone direct. After over two hours on hold they informed me that the cooling off period of two weeks had expired and to return to the store so back I went. Same story from them dispite the fact I had been arguing with them two days after purchasing the phone. I finally track down thier national sales manager and threaten legal action in small claims court for false and misleading conduct, I was informed "bring in the phone and its accessories and I will give you an old model iphone". Great, the next day I take EVERYTHING in minus the box (phone charger cables manuals ect). I am then infomred that the sales staff had been directed that if I did not have the box that they would not take back the phone AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH !!!! back to vodaphone, they didnt care and I was diorected to continue complaining with the store direct. Well it has since closed down and the nearest store is approximately 180km away in Grafton.

I give, up use my phone for another few months and then throw it against a wall in rage, bugger all reception, rubbish phone with none of the features I was informed it had.

So here I am paying for a phone contract I havent used for about 12 months and waiting for my contract to expire.

so much abuse I would like to throw towards Vodaphone !!

Nathan
5 Jan 2011 10:09:52 PM: Wow my grammer is terrible, its amazing that even now I get so worked up about my treatment by Vodaphone I cant help but get worked up so much I can hardly think.
5 Jan 2011 11:14:43 PM: I can understand how worked up this stuff can get you. They care nothing of the products they sell or their service once they have you locked in! been there with 3 years ago and now vodafone... and NOW they have merged !!!!

Unless there are major changes to customers rights.. I will never sign a mobile contract again. One way to keep them "more" honest.
6 Jan 2011 07:15:15 PM: They roped me in with the blackberry storm as well! Had the same issues etc. Voda kept telling me to go back to the store. Eventually I rang voda back and told them I was leaving unless they gave me another phone asap

10773 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Infinite holding, BS & plain idiocy at 5 Jan 2011 09:17:21 PM
i cannot quite believe a company has the gaul to enter the marketplace & offer the kind of shoddy experience both my wife & I have received over the past month since arriving from London. The failures are common it seems from inexcusable times waiting on hold through to drop out & lack of service. Anyone had numbers dialed whilst you're on another call? All quite unbelievable. Service complaints are not uncommon in the UK across the networks but the suffering here in Australia on VF surpasses it by miles. Something offer to be done & I salute the gentleman who set up this site & hope a class action succeeds. Failing that? Something akin to the student protests in London at VF's Australian HQ might be the only way forward. After all, it might not just be a job at stake next time a call drops out, it could be someone's life.
6 Jan 2011 12:36:43 PM: Class actions in Australia are not as glamorous or as anywhere near as lucrative as those portrayed in the movies.I'm not sure the good money part-punitive damages -even exists with class actions. And there are ways for companies to avoid even paying the costs and straight reimbursement awarded against them.
Look at James Hardie and the (now many dead) victims of asbestos; and the work Senator Nick Xenophon has been doing in this area.
26 Jan 2011 06:37:21 PM: And I keep wondering, where is the government in all this? How was it allowed to get so f**king bad?

10772 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 5 Jan 2011 09:13:48 PM
We moved from 3 who were pretty useless to Vodafone prior to them becoming the same company. I have been plagued constantly with the same issues.. minimal reception, only 1 bar where we live which is only 8kms from the Perth CBD. Calls go straight to voicemail even when I do have reception, text messages taking up to 24 hours to arrive or send, MMS can take days at a time, voicemail arriving hours, days and occasionally weeks after they have been left. I run my own business and I can't rely on Vodafone to provide the service they have been contracted to provide.

I lodged a complaint with the TIO and ACCC, in the meantime I have moved 4 sims (2 phones, ipad and a USB internet) from Vodafone to Telstra. I will fight any charges they try and send my way with tooth and nail and will take it through the courts if necessary. I have also signed up for the class action.

10770 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is beyond repair at 5 Jan 2011 08:57:35 PM
A question I wanted to raise on this site is... has anyone experienced calls regularly dropping out at intervals such as 5 mins 2 seconds... 10 mins 2 seconds etc?

This occurred in various areas of sydney for me and another person I know also using vodafone from mid 2009 to early 2010. I would check my phone at the time, there would be reception and I would be abe to call back or others would call back immediately. This would happen consistantly for about a week then it would be back to "normal" for 2-3 weeks then it would reoccur!! At times I can remember having literally dozens of dropped calls per day and it would regularly happen 2 seconds into the minute of a call... most of them at 5 mins 2 seconds.

Interestingly enough this just happens to add up to extra $$$ for Vodafone, as we are billed for that entire minute or 30 sec block, of which we only used 2 seconds. Then, we are also left with little option but to call again so we incur 2,3 or more flagfall charges for the one call. If this was intentional its an interesting way of increasing their income from calls by 10 - 15% at 5 minute drop outs. Considering Vodafones honesty and "ways" it appears they were INTENTIONALLY dropping calls in certain areas for a given period then moving to another area to minimise customer complaints. One thing they would have banked on for this "scheme" to work (if it was that).. is that their customers would not unite against their ways.

So... Anyone else with a similar experience?
5 Jan 2011 09:20:51 PM: mm..I've seen comments previously that mention calls drop off at a set interval, but not sure if it was 5mins 2 secs. Sounds strange and since I'm not telecoms expert, have no idea what would be the cause.

Some people have also suggested the dropped calls thing as a way for them to make more money, but I think logically, they do themselves real damage by not providing a good service-and they would know that. Logically, they (senior management) would care about the longevity of the business and therefore try to engage in sustainable practices (ie. make profit sustainability)...but then again.....they have made some pretty major mistakes lol.
5 Jan 2011 10:12:47 PM: I had the same problem until I deliberately broke my phone, it always happened at about the 5 minute mark in late 2009 and early 2010. I began toi think they just wanted to get additional connection charges.
5 Jan 2011 11:01:20 PM: Hi there I posted above.. thinking as logically as I could, nothing else made any sense. Especially when you see that happen over and over again... phase out and return a couple of weeks later, dropping calls the first 2 seconds in.. you realise there is a good "chance" there's intent behind it. Especially when they stand to benefit immediately. Maybe they needed a short term gain.. to fund their longer term needs. Who knows, altho it would be interesting if it was wide spread.

As close as I came to making my phone also spontaneously explode hehe.. thankfully I didnt because the problem was consistent between my Nokia N73 and Blackberry 8310. There must be more people out there that experienced this.. it just went on for so long I was left expecting it to happen after a couple of weeks of grace !! I remember the BB call logs would look something like.. 5:02, 5:02, 3:02, 10:02 for the same call.. It was flippen ridiculous!

My move to Vodafone from another carrier occurred when this other carrier continuously stuffed me around when it came to receiving the new iPhone 4g. I happily changed to Vodafone yet after only a matter of weeks my brand spanking new iPhone 4g started experiencing problems. Calls constantly dropping out (important calls may I add to clients etc), poor network coverage in areas that one would assume coverage would be wonderful and last but certainly not least... The slow, painful internet. I don't think it is fair to pay around $80 a month, or ANY amount, for services that I do not receive. Not only are we in the 21st Century, we are in an era where these issues should no longer be issues. Time to step up your game Vodafone, because I can assure you in no time at all will your customers be flocking to the other major phone companies.

10762 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very bad at 5 Jan 2011 08:26:08 PM
Hello, Firstly thank you for starting this website. Its a sad fact that Vodafone (and some other companies operating in Australia) are so out of touch with their customers and arrogant, that a national campaign has to be started in order for proper customer service to be delivered.
My complaints....
1. Unbelievably Bad Reception: I live in Clayton Victoria and suburb of Melbourne, also by the by where Telstra and others telecom companies have their national telecommunication control centers. We're not talking about rural Australia here, and yet I consistently can't get reception in my living room or walking down the main street. Seriously, not being able to get reception in Clayton is like not being able to get Sushi in Tokyo ..... during a sushi festival.
2. Long Loooong time left on hold: I had to sort out a billing problem ($3500 dollar bill for overseas roaming, thanks very much) and with time on hold, bounced between this department and that, it took over 2.5 HOURS!
Hopefully this information helps in improving the situation
Regards
Damien Lacey
5 Jan 2011 11:02:21 PM: Hey Damien, I agree with your comments about Clayton being metro Melbourne - but seriously, can it get much worse than this: standing on St Kilda beach on front of the Vodafone Summer of Cricket promotion and can't make a call! Could have had a red cardboard Vodafone box seat though! Maybe that complete waste of money on cricket promotion could have been better directed into improving their network.

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one experiencing these problems.
I live less than 3.5 kilometres from the centre of Sydney and get no reception in my house! As we decided to get rid of the home phone, as it was superfluous - I am in trouble when I need to make a call. I needed to call an ambulance for my son and had to stay in the one spot and hope that the phone didn't drop out - as it regularly does! Not a time that you should be worrying about things like this!
When I am lucky enough to have some reception it constantly drops out and goes from full service to no service, without even moving a step away.
I constantly have problems with my voicemail - they don;t come through for days - if at all and the same thing often happens with SMS.
Switching to Vodafone was the worst decision I have ever made. My company phone is with Telstra and as much as I do not like them as a company - the reception is fantastic and I have not had a problem with them wherever I am in Australia

Calls fail while speaking, phone doesn't ring because of bad reception therefore up for extra cost to retrieve messages, 50% of time can't ring from home office. Customer Care in 'Mumbai' tested local towers and say they're not faulty. Also early confusion with accounts. Regret leaving 3. I have missed business because of the reception problem; am registered on Vodafone data base as having problems since signing contract and I want to CANCEL contract. I cannot use data ever! Phone constantly not working.

I signed a 2-year contract at about 10.30 in the morning, was shown a coverage map which included my home and business in Perth. When I got back to my home at 3.00pm that same day, I found to my horror no signal at my house. I had a signal at the end of my driveway, great. I immediately contacted Vodaphone so I could return the phone and get a refund, to no avail. Next stop the TIO. A couple of frustrating weeks later they said Vodaphone were within their rights and I had to pay out compensation to Vodaphone for 2 years of the contract. This for a useless piece of junk that I had bought 5 hours earlier. Not fit for the purpose??? The TIO is a waste of space and taxpayers money. Expect no help from them at all. Ever.
They are an apologist for the Telecommunications Industry, set up just to calm fears that were expressed when the government excluded them from the provisions of the Trade Practices Act.
I was stuck with a mobile for two years having to go to the end of the driveway in all weathers just to receive and make calls.

Two mobile internet and two iphone 4 on two year contract.

After having to call every second week regarding billing issues and network coverage, we sent a very formal and stern notification of disconnection to the Vodafone feedback line. We get a call back from the 'Escalations department', who aren't willing to assist with monetary value (as promised 10 times previously due to multiple services). My husband told them specifically, "Do not call back until you have a manager willing to release me from all contracts". We get a call back half an hour later, informing us we are being put through to the 'Cancellations department' and fees will be incurred. We then requested to speak to his manager, or obtain his manager's details, the answer we got: "I am only willing to put you through to the 'Cancellations department'. Call was terminated!!! We spend over $500 a month with Vodafail, and the best they can give us is a free transfer to the 'Cancellations department' where fees will be incurred!!! What a joke!!!
5 Jan 2011 07:16:15 PM: Agree it is a joke, but not really funny for $500 per month!!!! You have tried the next step is take the matter to the TIO, the details can be found at the top of the page in the How To Complain tab. Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!

I have been a customer of postpaid Vodafone mobile for last 3 months or so. Since then I am having a lot of call dropouts, failure of message delivery and reception, unable to call and very slow internet.

Most of the time I experience very poor or no reception in the CBD area.

I have been having issues for months including dropped calls, no internet and no coverage. I can now only connect to facebook on my iphone if I am connected to a WIFI connection. My voicemail has disappeared. i generally have to make about 10 phone calls to someone as my calls continually drop out. A family member sent me a xmas message on xmas day and i received it on 29/12. My partner was trying to call me for 45 minutes and could not get through despite me having full coverage at the time. Through all this I have contacted vodafone on many many occasions and have spent in excess of approx 20 hours on the phone only to be told that there appears to be nothing wrong. I get no where at all and I am extremely frustrated.
5 Jan 2011 06:41:58 PM: Well, you have tried 20 hours is an extraordinary amount of time to get issues resolved, sadly it is the norm for Vodafone. Check out the TIO details in the How To Complain tab at the top of the page. Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!!

I stupidly joined vodafone because my girlfriend was with them and I was enticed by the free calls. now having ended that relationship i am stuck with a contract (9months old) that delivers poorer than poor service. almost everyday my calls drop out, even when i have full 3G reception it will very rarely open my web pages or update facebook, even when i turn it off and on or swap with airoplane mode. my longest wait for a voicemail was 2 days.....

in short, dont join vodafone.. EPIC FAIL

After have very intermittent reception for two days now, and constant poor reception for 3 weeks I decided to cancel my contract early and move to a provider willing to provide. I was just on hold for an hour and 58 minutes and was told that my case was unique and that vodafone had no record of poor service or service outages in my area. I pray the TIO can help.

10728 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is 10/10 at 5 Jan 2011 06:23:34 PM
Waiting 6 hours for a text message is ridiculous. If I have a friend on a different network standing right next to me with full coverage try to call me and not get through, something's not right. I was talking to a customer service representative who suggested that perhaps I should turn my phone onto the vodafone 2G network. I then advised the lady on the phone that I am not paying for a 2G network I am paying for a 3G network. The only solution to this problem, according to the customer service representative, is paying the same amount for a network of lesser value.
5 Jan 2011 06:30:23 PM: Agree it is ridiculous!!!! Not what you pay for!!!! Check out the TIO details in the How To Complain tab at the top of the page. Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!!

10719 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is at 5 Jan 2011 05:53:13 PM
Hi Everybody,
my Name is Luca Facibeni I am a Sydney resident and I have been experiencing prolems with my iPhone (one) which is using the Vodafone network since last August 2010. Since then the situation has been steadly deteriorating and now problems are so severe that I can hardly receive any call at all.
I own and run a small gardening business and because of the nature of this job I am basically every day out and about all day long. For this reason I do have only mobile wireless internet and mobile phone as customer service tools.
Many of my clients started complaining that they cannot contact me anymore and has become critical.
I want to voice my great dissatisfaction with Vodafone in these recent months and the frustration I experience due to the fact that also the Vodafone customer service number "1555" is actually not available.
Have cunsumers any kind of rights or just the duty to pay?
Does the Australian authority on telecomunications impose any criteria about how contracts between network providers and customers/users must be and also does it supervise the extend of discrepancies between service agreed and paid for and actual service provided. In today's society, just because of the way it works and functions, I do count on the fact to be in constant contact with others by telematic means. This is the reason why I pay for it.
If I need a banana in my life, I go to the grocery shop and I'll buy it. If the shop where I go doesn't have a banana to sell, I am free to go to another shop looking for the banana I need and I can do so without giving any money to the first shop I went to and which could not supply my with a banana because it did not have any banana.
Now, I have been buying my bananas from Vodafone for many months so I am keen to keep buying my bananas from Vodafone. The problem is that in the last six months Vodafone did not give me the bananas I asked for and Vodafone agreed to give me. I have paid for bananas and I have received apricots instead.
Apricots are not what I need. I am not happy with what Vodafone is giving me instead of the bananas I need and we agreed for in the deal we made.
It is clear that Vodafone has run out of bananas.
It is not unusual for a "supplier" to run out of stock.
Now I think the authorities who are running the country should step in firmly and ask Vodafone a simple question: "Are you Vodafone in the position to supply right now the banana you promised to the people who need the banana right now in this very moment? Yes?!! Okay very good. No??!! well in this unfortunate case, please stop immediately requiring money for what you cannot sell anymore and set your former customer, with its previously allocated phone number, free to go and buy the banana it need from another shop.
Does this make sense or not?
5 Jan 2011 05:54:21 PM: You have to make it happen, if you are having serious problems and vodafone seem unwilling to help you need to contact the TIO who will most likely assist you out of your contract. Check the 'how to complain' link on the vodafail website :)
5 Jan 2011 06:06:30 PM: Yes it does make sense.
Sounds like they are selling "banana futures". Maybe it is something the ACCC could check out ?

My emails to not update. My phone (an iPhone, I might add) regularily turns itself off. I have little reception. My outgoing calls continuously FAIL (on a daily basis). This can be quite frustrating when I need to make an urgent call. Incoming and outgoing calls cut out ALL the time. I recieve txt messages hours after they have been sent. Sometimes, even when my phone is on, I cannot recieve or make any phone calls - this is also when my mobile is showing bars of reception.
This whole situation is ridiculous.I don't want to pay my next bill. Why should I?.. I'm not recieving the service I was offered.

10711 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extremely Terrible at 5 Jan 2011 05:11:40 PM
I have no reception at all with Vodafone in my area, they originally locked me in to a 2 year contract which I did agree too how ever the phone they gave me was faulty and I spoke with the customer service line and was told 'what do you want us to do about it'(they were rude and unhelpful) it took over 4 months for Vodafone to respond to my complaint, they did offer me 6 months of half cost bills however one of my bills was one hundred dollars more than it should have been on my cap (which I NEVER go over) and when i called to investigate i was offered no assistance and simply told to pay - not only that how can i use it when my calls constantly drop out, texts dont go through and I never get more than one to two bars of reception and Vodafone wont let me cancel my plan without paying it out - I have been with them for 6-7 years and this is the worst it has ever been and as a supposed valued customer they have not offered me any sort of compensation. As soon as my contract ends i will be finding another provider who values there customers and supplies an excellent product.
5 Jan 2011 05:26:43 PM: Lodge a complaint with the TIO and inform vodafone that you have done so, I successfully got out of my contract today, still had 9 months to go. Whatever you do don't let up on harrassing them

I called vodafone several times about my poor service I would have full bars of reception but it would drop out, calls would fail, text would not send and people could not get through to me. I spoke to three different people after being on hold for over 40 mins each time. My uncle was dying at the time and I explained I needed a reliable phone they didn't care they said they would hold a 3 day investigation and call me back! I had to
call them and still nothing. They sent me a sim
card and said try this but I was left on
hold for over an hour the day I called to
activate the new sim so I gave up. I called yesterday to upgrade my phone which they offered me again on hold forever and a memo to all stores said for htc or iPhones we need to call and order. After my long wait they told me to call back on
the 6th at which point they would take my order for the htc!! I am refusing to pay my bill as I can not use the service properly! I just want out of my contract which only has 3 months left and I will never ever go near them again! Poor quality products, rude non social phone staff not even in the same country and crap coverage! They use to be great but some one has stuffed up big time and I know hundreds of people who have left them and for good reason! I will not be renewing my contract!

10698 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is crap at 5 Jan 2011 04:19:53 PM
I have two main issues with Vodafone:

The first is that SMS messages sent by me or sent to me are not delivered in a timely manner - sometimes they arrive up to 24 hours later. This is very bad for me as I am on call for my work and I need a reliable SMS service.

Secondly, I regularly call a friend in Melbourne. On average I get about 4 to 5 call drops every time I call her. Sometimes it's so ridiculous; just one call drop after another I just give up and call her later. It is VERY frustrating.

Luckily I don't have to pay for calls to 3 users because if I had to pay for every new connection I would be extremely pissed off. Also it would be TERRIBLE if you relied on your mobile for Business.

I hope Vodafone will do something about SMS delivery and call drops. It will probably take ages to upgrade the network though. Meanwhile I'm locked into a plan. BOO!

About to give up, and about to move my plans to Optus! Well done Vodafone, another customer who you have pissed off with your pathetic customer service, pathetic automated systems that simply don't work, and pathetic phone network.

Connecting to the 3G network using a USB modem, the software Voda Mobile connect lite never showed anything above 3 bars of network strength in our house. The connection constantly drops out to be able to continue you have to disconnect and reconnect only for it to drop out seconds later, imagine trying to do a credit card transaction when you have a connection like this. I have long since given up doing any personal banking and online shpopping and started to do all that at work, I will get into trouble soon.

we have a bundle of iphone 4 and wireless internet connection we get too many missed calls on the mobile, at first we thought the ringer volume was not loud enough, but since then also realised that we simply don't receive those calls and only receive missed calls or voice mail messages.

Signed up for a new iPhone4 just before Xmas on an infinity plan - literally EVERY call I have made since I got the phone has dropped out 1-2 mintues after connecting. The reception will initially be ok, then it will (without fail) drop out and say "call failed". Then the reception will go to "no service" for 1-2 minutes before coming back online again. I have spent countless hours on the phone to support with no resolution that worked. (I would estimate that 20-30 of my calls didn't even connect, AFTER I HAD ENTERED ALL MY PERSONAL IDENTIFIERS ETC, and would result in an automated message saying "looks like we've had a technical difficulty, please hang up and try again". Needless top say I'm ready to go postal on vodaphone right about now). I have tried replacing the sim, hard reset and updating, none of which worked. I have some smartarse teenager working in a Voda-shop try and tell me I wasn't "looking after my phone" and i needed to update it. I got the F#@kin phone 6 days ago - how much more up to date could it be! I checked anyway, and I had the most recent updates already installed. Second trip to the voda-shop where I got the phone resulted in.......nothing. just three teen bimbos that wouldn't answer their phone prior to my visit. When I entered the store just before it closed they were all just sitting there on their phones on facebook! (and yes, they had iPhones that actually WORKED!!). They are apparently looking into replacing it, but claim to not have access to any stock for the foreseeable future.....so yeh, Vodaphone can suck my sav I'm going to Telstra thanks very much

Had to spend over 24 hours on the phone in the first week - having my calls not returned - having to explain from the start to about 5 different people - to eventually be told I could get a replacement phone 1 month after purchase. Service is appaling - amnd when I complained to vodafone the response was they outsource blackberry support so could not help...! Pardon...! Fell off the chair on that one and gave up.

After consistently receiving the message "SIM card registration failed" one day, I tried calling the customer service line of VF 3 times - first time I got through and I said it was a problem with a Nokia handset (just guessing, I'm no tech person), which then transferred me to a number which was not connected. I then called back and this time I said it was a problem with the SIM card, and got a message telling me there was a technical problem and I needed to hang up and call back. The third time I chose that it was a problem with coverage and the same thing happened.

I then emailed, got an automated message about covering 94.52% of the Australian population, which I replied to saying I was sitting in the middle of Sydney. I didn't receive a response for a while (I think just over a week), then eventually received the following:

Thank you for your patience.

10679 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Very much so!!! at 5 Jan 2011 03:17:51 PM
By the sounds of it, i`m not alone with my problem. My sister, my brother in-law, my nephew and myself all joined vodafone intentionally so that we could contact each other in an emergency free of charge. For my 11 yr old nephew, this service is vital for his independence. Unfortunantly, i get absolutly no reception the majority of the time, and if i have any its one, or two (if i`m really lucky) bars of reception. My partner works away from home and is unable to contact me from a satelitte phone, due to Vodafones lack of reception. My phone turns itself off in the middle of conversations, as does my sisters. I`ve been with vodaphone ( pre-paid) for atleast 3 yrs now, but i will not hesitate to sign a contract with Telstra asap. No matter what vodaphone offers me, it will never make up for the absolutly shocking service i have received from them. You`ve done you dash vodaphone, and i`ve had enough!!!

I have been constantly calling the customer lack of service line and when I finally got through, the call dropped out. They did manage to call me back however again the call kept dropping out. They managed to cancel the visual voicemail feature as i had migrated to an android handset however they keep insisting they have full coverage and it must be my brand new handset....hmmm. Anyway, tried the onbudsman, they escalated my complaint to Vodafone. I received a call from a "John" whilst commuting home (so missed the call but got the voice mail) who advised that he was investigating my complaint and would call me back to discuss. no number was left and no follow up call has been received (unless they have left messages that have failed to reach me which is very likely. I have again expressed my disappointment to the Ombudsman so lets see where we go from here! As I have been with Vodafone very happily since 1999 (untl recently) I am bitterly disappointed with the copmpany.

10676 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 5 Jan 2011 03:15:54 PM
I signed up with vodafone around 2 years ago and have never had any real issues with it, until recently.
I moved into a new house with my fiancee around 3 months ago and when we moved in, we had both 3G coverage and telephone reception.
Over the last 2 and a half months, coverage has gradually gotten worse and now we have NO 3G coverage and extremely limited telephone reception; unless we turn our phones off and then turn them back on - in which case, we get full reception and 3G coverage for around 20 seconds before it goes back to nothing.
We went into a Vodafone store to enquire and a the attendant who worked there responded with (this is a direct quote), "well, if you couldnt get reception, you shouldn't have moved there."
I have tried calling Vodafone and am always left waiting on hold for ages and then I am transferred through to another department, and wait on hold for ages to speak with them also.
Yesterday, my fiancee called Vodafone in the morning as was promised a call back at 6.15pm. When he heard nothing by 6.30, he tried calling them from my mobile and waiting on hold for over an hour, and the person transferred him to another department and he waiting another 40mins before hanging up.
My sms's come back with a note saying that they haven't been sent, so I send them again, and again, and again and people respond saying they have received 7 or 8 texts from me - and I am being charged for ALL of these texts!
Also, I get so many people tell me they have tried to call my mobile - I tell them I have no coverage at my house and ask if they get that generic voice telling them the phone was unavailable - but they assure me that the phone rings, but I never get any missed calls on my phone.
I know that this post is a bit of an jumbbled rant, but I have so many issues and they have randomly popped into my head whilst I have been typing, hence I havent been able to string my sentences together coherently.
Bottom line is:
I AM VERY UNHAPPY and it is unfair becasue there is absoloutely nothing I can do about it, but that shouldn't mean that I should have to put up with horrible service either!
6 Jan 2011 02:13:46 PM: Coverage has changed dramatically in the last 3 months because after the merger with 3mobile into VHA both networks are upgrading and changing their towers. During this time they said there would be some temporary outages while the new towers were put up. If you check the vodafone website you can search your area and see where the towers are still affected, which ones are going to be affected too, expected outages, resolve times etc etc. Hope that helps - it did for me. The reduced coverage is a temporary thing and should be resolved soon and go back to how it was

They finally called me back about half an hour ago and I explained the situation to some Indian... no coverage for mobile or internet, not sending or receiving sms, $184 bill for a phone I cant use etc and of course he cant help so he put me on hold.... its been 25 mins so far. This is fucking ridiculous. I'm at work for fucks sake I cant be on hold all day waiting to talk to some useless twat in India who has no bloody clue whats going on.

Sorry about the language but I'm over it!! SCREW YOU VODAFAIL!!

But it frusrates me to no end, when trying to contact vodaphone, and the person on the other end can`t speak english!!!! You should not be working in telecommunications if you can`t even master the english language. That goes for anyone, speaking any language in any country!!!!
