26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

I am with 3 which is now lumped in with Vodaphone. I get poor signal strength, dropouts, being charged for data roaming as a result of insufficient 3 coverage.
27 Jan 2011 09:40:15 AM: 3 coverage is different to Vodafone coverage. So really this posting should not be on this forum. 3 have the choice of Telstra GSM, Telstra NextG, 3 Mobiles 3G network and Vodafoen 2g Network so if your not getting good coverage chance are you just dont have good coverage at your house. Admin should remove this post
27 Jan 2011 10:45:49 AM: they can post here, 3 and vodafone are the same thing now

I got out of the 2 contracts, now I want the handsets unlocked. The only way to pay is via a credit card, but they dont accept a Commonwealth Bank of Australia credit card. I was told to find someone who has another credit card and get them to pay for it, and me pay them back. Bloody disgraceful, 50 minutes on the phone to the pricks and they still wouldnt take my card, so I am stuck with 2 phones locked to their shit network
27 Jan 2011 08:35:48 AM: did you go to vodafone.com.au/unlock

There is currently no reception for Vodafone Customers in Bathurst.... massive fail.

Last time this happened was in 2009 and Bathurst Vodafone users did not have reception for 3 days
27 Jan 2011 07:26:14 AM: actually 1 day.
27 Jan 2011 04:43:23 PM: This is a TELSTRA error. A TELSTRA part failed and caused an outage from about 5pm yesterday. TELSTRA had to deliver and install the part. As of 5pm the issue has been fixed and normal service has resumed.
27 Jan 2011 04:44:43 PM: Oh and last time the problem didn't affect everyone at the same time. The outage was noticable for quite a few people and did last a few days at least unfortunately.

27 Jan 2011 05:14:19 PM: No sorry 27 Jan 2011 7:03:42. It is a fact that at some point all networks use Telstra infrastructure. Your comment is not helpful and is inaccurate.
27 Jan 2011 05:39:59 PM: No mention of it being Telstra's fault on the website: http://vodafone.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3730

No Telstra customers complaining of the issue on Whirlpool.

Got a link to it on the Telstra website? as you are not supplying any evidence to prove otherwise.

27 Jan 2011 07:37:37 AM: public holiday.didnt expect it to fix then did you?.
27 Jan 2011 08:37:52 AM: Vodafone fails all of the time (they can't fix it during a normal day so unfortunately you had bugger all chance on a public holiday). Your best bet is to try and get out of your contract and find a real provider. Check out the How To Complain link at the top of the page.
27 Jan 2011 04:47:24 PM: @27 jan 2011 10;37am The issue was fixed as soon as possible. Vodafone had to wait for a TELSTRA failed part to be delivered and installed. Vodafone managed the issue as quickly as they could. Your inane and negative post does not help or illustrate reality. The most applicable phrase is pull your head in um...please.

Clean my SIM with my finger (Its quite well protected in my iphone I think).
Use 2G not 3G? 2 months free? Should be more than that.

Response (Tamra) 27/01/2011 08:10 AM
Hi XXXXXX,

Thank you for your email.

I advise there have been some issues with 3G accessibility in some areas in recent times.

Vodafone are currently upgrading and enhancing the network to resolve this issue, I can advise that last weekend we did launch our new 850 network in Sydney and surrounding suburbs. We plan to have all new network sites installed and running by the end of March.

I suggest that you do a manual reset by turning off your handset, take the sim card out, wipe the copper part of the sim with your fingers, place back in and then turn your phone back on. This will reconnect you to the network and every so often it is a good idea to clean your sim card. Also while work is being done on the network I recommend that you change the settings on your handset to the 2G network only. This will reduce call drop outs and improve coverage as it will stop the phone switching between the two networks 3G and 2G.

Vodafone endeavour to provide only the best service to our customers and we sincerely regret any inconvenience caused to you as a result of this issue.

Please be assured that our technicians treat issues such as this as a matter of urgency to ensure that the service is fully restored for all Vodafone customers as soon as possible.

As goodwill a offer I have placed 2 months free access on your account, you will see this credit on your next invoice.

Kind regards,

Tamra

14710 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is beyond a joke at 27 Jan 2011 05:51:59 AM
We have approximately 30 company phones with VF. We have all experienced repeated call dropouts. Calls dropout when a SMS message comes through. Voicemail can come through imediatly or up to a day later. We have found we have poor service coverage in City areas. There are constant inexplicable signal dropouts. Directory service SMS's don't come through and when you ring back you get 2 messages directly?!!
I am working to move our companies phone service away from VF as the overall service is well below unsatisfactory and we have all grown sick and tired of it...

14708 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Completely ridiculous. at 26 Jan 2011 10:38:22 PM
Just moved to a new house in kinross. Signal indicator consistantly indicates 3g coverage with fair to good signal strength. You wouldn't know it from the complete inability to send or recieve any form of data. I transferred from 3 to vodafone on the promise that coverage and service would be of the same standard thay I had recieved from 3, as the two companies were in the process of merging. What a mistake that was...

I don't know what avenues I have available to me, but I will definately be exploring all my options now I've discovered that I'm not the only one experiencing these issues.
28 Jan 2011 09:23:49 AM: Wow, did I right this in my sleep? No. I'm the same, live in Kinross, swapped from 3 to Vodafone blah blah blah. I missed a very important phone call on Australia Day that cost me a lot of money. Not happy Jan!
1 Feb 2011 07:49:02 PM: Just up the road and same issues, VAU called me and told me I was in a low signal area, I said "What PERTH? this happens all over not just at my home" they then said "we will ring you back in 30 minutes" Guess what, that was 2 weeks ago, still waiting...
When you DO get through to them, make sure you ask and get their name, ask them to spell it for you as well, also ask them to confirm that the call has been recorded, they are allegedly recording them all, I think this is to cover them when the CSR says things they shouldn't, so you should be able to ask them to get the recording and match the claim and responses.
Oh Candlewood by the way, RIGHT near the comms tower !!!

I was with Telstra and had great coverage Australia wide. Switched to Vodafone to save some coin and have had numerous problems with poor reception in many areas incl the CBD, calls dropping out and messages arriving days after they were sent.

I'm beyond frustration and in the process of returning to Telstra.

14699 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Waiting 4 days for Port - and counting at 26 Jan 2011 08:24:20 PM
Hi,
Thought that this might be of some interest. I need Voda because of a number of the things it offers which I cannot get elsewhere. I was up to date with the problems but believed that they could only "get better". My husband, stepson and I all had Optus contracts finishing. Because of coverage issues at our home all three of us were leaving Optus. The boys went to Telstra - they ported their numbers and their phones were active on the NextG Network before they left the shops (different stores in different suburbs). I signed up (month by month - no ongoing contract, I'm not that silly)at 10:00am on Saturday morning. It is now 10:30pm on WEDNESDAY night and my number has still not ported.
Probably sums them up eh?

I am a carer for a disabled person, I can never get any reception, phone drops out but worst of all I can not get any reception inside my work building, I never ever had a problem when I was with 3, what if something happens to the person I care for, as they are with Vodaphone as well. I have not even bothered to call Vodaphone to complain, as I dont have the time to sit on the phone for 2 hours or so. What really makes me angry is I specifically asked the consultant from 3 if I would get the same reception and service with Vodaphone as I did with 3 and he insured me that it would be better because of the merge,
quess what he lied. I am just hanging out for my 24 month contract to finish, how come these companies can get away with not holding up there end of the contract.
27 Jan 2011 06:53:42 AM: That's really bad, there is no way you should have to wait 24 months. Check out the how to complain page on this site and fill in the online form for the TIO. They will then have Vodafone contact you and you can ask to get out of your contract.

Really frustrating and going to leave ASAP.

I am sick of getting "Network Busy" or "Connection Error" when I am trying to make a call. Also my husband now has no reception at his place of work. What is the go with that.
Yesterday I had a flat battery in my car and it took me nearly 10 minutes to make a call to the NRMA - RIDICULOUS.
When I ring Vodafone, they ask me if I have turned the phone off and on again - this should not be a problem solving step.
When I called them I was told they have to take a couple of day to problem solve the issue.
My gosh.
Oh well..

NSW Bathurst resident, at the moment, ZERO signal on either GSM or the purported "3G" network. Not the first time, first started back in November '09.

Being an unsuspecting customer (ie, sucker), I also have a Vodafone USB stick. The last time I used it, it barely got above dial up speeds and continually dropped its connection, even though it used to perform reasonably well.

In Sydney CBD last week, frequent dropouts, slow data etc, wherever I go, the Vodafone fail is sure to follow.

I can't get service in Terrey Hills, Sydney. I have to go outside to get service and it is always "very poor" and drops out frequently which is so annoying especially when trying to pay bills. I cannot wait until Next January when my contract expires and I can find a provider that gives decent coverage and doesn't keep dropping out. The customer service is also abominable and it would be nice to find an agent that knows what is going on instead of being transferred 5 times and have a 2 hour phone call with no results. Lousy, lousy, service!!!!!!
27 Jan 2011 11:49:10 AM: Dont wait untill next feb, why should you have to wait and they can breach your contract if they wont cancel your contract take your complaint to the TIO.

2. There is no reception on the Rose Bay hill
3.I signed up to a new Apple iPhoneplan for $59pm for my son who is a uni student with that company in town in December 2010,Communications Direct-problems++--no iPhones available in OZ until Jan.
Big mistake but how was I to know?
4. When the phone arrived, it was faulty--no internet connectability.Big problems to get a new phone with calls to Vodafone, CommDirect etc.New phone arrives, seems new and Ok after 1 week, the speaker phone is not working.
5.Then I go onto my account at the Vodafone website and I see I am signed up for a $69 Business plan.Trying to reverse this. This is FRAUD.
6. I start getting scam text messages on my phone from a +353(Ireland) number--how did they get my number? In the 10 years I have been with Vodafail, I never got 1 scam message-now suddenly 3.
7. When we had the iPhone we held on for over two hours to Vodafail to verify the sim and start the phone.Unacceptable.
8. A few months ago, I had issues with my account and called Vodafail.I was put through to a call centre after a while-"Mohammad" answered.I could not understand a word he was saying.AND there was an almighty babbling and jabbering in the background, so I thought that HE couldnt hear ME so I raised my voice. Big Mistake-I got rudely spoken to.I cut off the call. I called 3 more times--same problem, different persons-Mustafa or Omar.So I asked was I talking to India? No came the reply;"Cairo" Well. Enough said.I refuse to deal with people in Cairo who cannot speak English properly AND who have access to my account AND address details as well as my passwords. How could and can I trust Vodafone to keep my details secure from the Middle East?

I started using Vodafone around 2 years ago as a Pre-paid customer. I switched from Telstra because of the caps Vodafone offered which are great and have never really had a problem.
Two months ago, I decided to go on a plan and my problems have been never ending. Not only have they charged me for an extra month that I haven't used, I constantly have to resend my messages up to about 4 or 5 times before they actually send. My internet is too slow to use, I drop out of reception in places where I should be receiving full reception, and I cannot make calls during certain times of the day. At one stage I couldn't call or receive calls at all!
This is an utter joke. I pay good money for service that I am not receiving. I refuse to pay my phone bill and want to know what else I can do about it. I want to get out of my plan without having to pay the fee. I don't believe I should! Vodafone are not providing the service they claim to be able to provide, not to mention the personal details of customers being able to be viewed by literally any person.
I want to know if there is a way out. Can anyone suggest anything?

Vodafone have charged my credit card twice, but are claiming they only charged me once. I need to go through my bank's process to claim the money back and that may take 3 months. FFS I don't know why it is so hard for them to get things right.

Vodafone also has crappy data speeds on mobile broadband even a few kilometers from Brisbane CBD, call centres overseas (cheap labour) and staff who only say 'that's the way it is, we will be upgrading the network soon.' On that basis I think I am better off investing my money in the lottery - at least I *know* I have very little chance to get my money's worth back from Gold Lotto.

I run my own business and need good mobile phone and mobile broadband services.
I am paying for such a service and have been for over 16 months now.
The service for both mobile and mobile broadband have been dreadful in areas where vodafone states the coverage should be good.
My business relys on communication, phone, text, voice messages and email.
With these services dropping out on a regular basis, I'm losing business and wasting valuable time having to go to the library to get a half decent internet connection. How much time can you waste in Sydney chasing your tail with large companies refusing to take responsibility for poor service.
I have a business to run and I'm paying for a pathetic service.
Thanks for taking my hard earned money Vodafone and providing nothing for it.

14655 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is HUGE FAIL at 26 Jan 2011 06:21:04 AM
Been a happy customer for for the last 5 years until 9 months ago. In the last 9 months I have had nothing but problems with Vodafone. Reception at my home has always had 4-5 bars out of 5 bars, in the last 9 months I get 1-2 bars of reception. MMS send with people NEVER getting the MMS. 3G rarely loads at all, always times out regardless of reception strength. Calls take 2 to 4 attempts to connect.
Explained the problems I have with Vodafone shop and they said its the SIM, replaced it and no improvement. Then said its the 3G in my iPhone 3gs. Sent it away under warranty and returned a NEW phone to me, still the same problems with NO improvement. Its YOUR bloody service Vodafone, not the phone.
I can not wait to end my contract in November and move to another carrier as quick as possible.
And get rid of bloody Laura it is the biggest pain in the a**!
26 Jan 2011 06:26:47 AM: If u complain enough they will let u out of contract ring 1555 win back vodafone customers team
26 Jan 2011 06:30:52 AM: Oh and forgot to mention the service completely drops out from time to time at my work with no service at all.

for about 6 months i had phone calls drop out. reception issues sometimes it would work and then other times just drop off i also didn't receive phone calls and go straight to message bank (this happened while the phone was sitting on my desk) I complained to vodafone several times and they said "yes we know and we can't do anything about it". I had 4 months to go on my plan and could'nt wait for it to be finished so i could change to another provider. I decided to bite the bullet and change to another provider before my time was up with vodafone. i couldn't afford to not have my phone working i have to kids and didn't want to risk it.
thanks for listening.

14652 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Absolutely disgraceful at 25 Jan 2011 10:31:30 PM
Been with vodafone for many years. Since July, my partners phone broke and the Vodafone worker said that it was her fault that she had it near an air con vent in the car and it got water damaged (WTF?), and the coverage has been disgraceful. Full service one minute, no service the next. Have missed many phone calls (even tho in full service) and delayed text messages and am sick of putting up with the bulls**t. I've tried calling customer service to which my calls either cut out or am just given that i've reached the wrong department and to try later or during business hours (when i work). We both want out of our contracts!
25 Jan 2011 10:35:35 PM: Check out the 'How To Complain' link at the top of the page, you will no doubt end up going to the TIO, but follow all of the steps along the way. Such as complaining to Vodafone first (keep records of those conversations as the mor info you can provide the TIO, the better you have of getting what you want).

Best Of Luck :)

14649 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Completely Useless at 25 Jan 2011 09:37:01 PM
I had incredibly poor service on 3, and was advised by Vodafone to move across to them to fix this issue. EPIC FAIL. I'm now stuck with an EVEN WORSE service than with 3, and at a higher cost than I was on at 3! ARRRRGH!!!

I primarily use my service for Internet access on my iPhone. I am mostly in the Sydney CBD. Every time I try to use the Internet it either doesn't work at all, or it is so slow it's essentially non-usable! I get 5 bars of reception, so no problem with signal to the tower, but it just doesn't work!! This isn't one, this is ALL THE TIME!
WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE FIXED? HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO PAY FOR A SERVICE THAT DOESN'T EXIST???

I stand next to my friends/colleagues using Telstra and their phones are FLYING to the same websites/services. I do a speed test using a speed test app on the phone and I get somewhere between 12 and 20 kbps download speed (when it works), and they are getting between 4mbps (mega bits) and 8mbps. And they are only paying about $20 more a month for the same type of package!

And try dealing with their offshore customer service. WHAT A COMPLETE JOKE. I REFUSE to call them any longer, their method of operations seems to be (after waiting for 45 mins) "I need to transfer you to another dept", then "beep-beep-beep" as I am hung up on. And then another 45 mins to call back and the SAME THING AGAIN. This happened to me EVERY time I called them.

Now I go into a store (where the Vodafone staff member does the same thing and I sit there for half an hour while he waits in the phone for the offshore call centre). At least the people in the store and nice and helpful, poor bas*ards, I dont know how they put up with it without snapping either. They need stress money working for such a completely incompetent company with such incredibly poor customer service such as Vodafone.

Telstra must be laughing all the way to the bank, they couldn't ask for anything better, they must be getting thousands of customers, everyone I know is switching from Voda to Telstra, and this doesn't cost Telstra a cent.

Surely the Vodafone Managing Director in charge of the Australian region needs to resign. How can he continue to allow false contracts to be sold to customers, this is not a temporary glitch, this is a service that does not work, hasn't worked for months, and is being falsely sold to unsuspecting customers (such as me, even if I did get tricked into moving from 3 to Voda).

25 Jan 2011 10:13:10 PM: LOL i know, Telstra are probably laughing there ass off, they didnt even have to pay for a ad campaign or anything people are just flocking to them becoz of how shit vodafone is xD
26 Jan 2011 02:11:42 PM: Vodafone and the 3 network are now one and the same....Talk about monopolies.

14648 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is huge fail at 25 Jan 2011 09:28:14 PM
Signed up to crazy johns on vodaphone may 2010, explained needed coverage in Bright in Victoria as we have a holiday place there. They checked the map and showed us on their computer screen, 'no problems with coverage'. I am often there by myself with my kids and need a reliable phone which until this week I thought I had. This last week up there, phone just kept dropping network, and asking me to select network operator. After calling customer care I did all the usual took out the battery and sim, changed network to gsm instead of dual and selected manual operator. Seemed to work at first, then when my husband arrived Friday, he too was off the air. We spent the last three days of our holiday trying to resolve this issue with customer care to no avail. Today we visited the store we signed with who also tried to get us help through customer care, but it appears crazys johns only guarantee reception at our home address, something they failed to mention when we signed up. The store manager was shocked at what customer care were telling her and also noted that on the coverage map Bright was fully covered. She got no where with customer care so its off to the TIO for me next. Simply, I need a phone that works where they told me it would work and at no time was I told I would only be guaranteed service at my home address, for that I have a Landline!!!
25 Jan 2011 10:17:45 PM: What is the post code for Bright, you can check the coverage on the map at the top of the page in the tab Your Coverage.......if you can please enter your own experiences as well.

Do the phones work at your home address with good signal, have you tried to walk around the house to ensure they do??

Check out the How To Complain tab at the top of the page - may give you direction on what to do next!!

Good luck and let us know how you get on!!! Vodafail.com mod
25 Jan 2011 10:19:31 PM: I think the post code is 3741 (Google is your friend)
26 Jan 2011 06:31:15 PM: Similar issues here, I live in Hoppers Crossing and frequently travel to Maffra postcode 3850. Not only do i get one- two bars of signal inside my home, but Maffra itself is a black spot. I'm lucky to have a single bar of signal to recieve a txt let alone a phone call from someone I need to be in touch with.

14646 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Slow brutal fail at 25 Jan 2011 08:52:53 PM
Coverage in North Adelaide is dying a slow death. Have seen a significant drop in 3G data speeds (proven with speedtest.net) and also numerous (2-3 a day) dropped calls, or outgoing calls that just won't connect in the first place (even with 5 bars reception).

It's becoming impractical to use data features due to intermittent service, and quite embarrassing when important calls are dropped.

Are these issues prevalent with the other carriers, or is Vodafone struggling with the increased demand from all these new 3 mobile users?

25 Jan 2011 09:01:59 PM: As best as some of us can tell, The vodafone network is currently not set up to deal with the latest generation of Smart Phones. Basically they are very bandwidth happy, and are always connected to the network. The claim by building a few 850 frequency towers around the joint, that the smart phones will jump on those towers, leaving everyone else for the other towers. But in all honesty I think they are going to need a heap of them before they even have a chance of fixing the problem (imo looking in from the outside).

14643 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Incredible Fail at 25 Jan 2011 08:26:11 PM
In the space of 3 minutes my reception went from 3 bars of voda3G to 1 bar of vodafone signal, then back to 3 bars voda3G, than to 1 bar, then to "Searching...", then to one bar, then "No Service" my favourite. I screen shot all these changes as it happened in 3 minutes. This is what I get on an on-going basis. So I can't use my data ever! As soon as it starts to load a page the signal drops! And I'll be standing in exactly the same spot! Funny as well I cant send a text. So technically I pay $60 a month to not use my service and my phone only works on my own wi-fi network at home that's with optus! ( thank god for "whatsapp" on the iPhone)

14632 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Epic at 25 Jan 2011 05:47:58 PM
Having issues with service at home and work. Managed after 11 months to have them perform a network investigation (as both areas show full 3G coverage on the maps). They admit to an issue at my work (which is better than at home, 95% no problems making a call or SMS, 50% of the time 3G data works - and when I have issues all other vodafail suckers have issues too so unlikely to be my phone) they say this one will be fixed within the next two months.

For the result of the home survey - they say no problems at all - 25% success rate for voice and sms (the number of red (!) next to messages on the iPhone that you need to click is phenomenal), data - don't even think about it - good thing I have WiFi!

So I complain about the situation and query why I should be spending more than $50 a month for no service, they say, Sir we will give you 3 months for free - would you like to switch plans, it's got a higher cap. I was beyond annoyed at this and suggested that the offer of a higher cap was useless given it was near impossible to use what I have now. Was offered to have handset unlocked for free and for free redirect to another number - sweet - at least I'll be able to have a number to use. Only the unlock page wants me to pay. Now this is where the pain really kicks in - I decide that an hour on hold was perhaps not the most productive use of my time, and email them, quoting a reference number which I was told to quote. The useless numbskull the other end of the email address could not even be arsed to read the email and just quoted the go here pay this.

Pissed does not even describe my current status, I hate you vodefail, I hate you so much and am hanging out for the day you close up shop in Australia. Once I was willing to forgive if you could supply service, now I want you to close down, you're obviously wasting money, energy and everyone's time!

AARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

I am in Perth CBD and there is no vodafone coverage. I havent had any reception all day. I have tried to contact customer service to no avail. I have been having problems for the last six months and I am trying to cancel my contract with them it still has 8 months to go. I cant even get a cancellation price out of them. They are pushing me department to department with no joy. I have had a sim swap. New phone everything but the service is just plan appalling. Is anyone else in Perth having major issues?

I was one of the first people to port my mobile number across to Vodafone many many years ago and have remained a loyal customer through numerous contracts for both personal and business use. I have just entered into an agreement for a Samsung Galaxy Tab to pick up my email on the go like everyone else.So far I have missed meetings, not returned calls to clients in a timely fashion because I didn't get their voicemails or follow up emails or text messages. My credibility has gone out the window.I can't be a successful person let alone a easily contactable parent or spouse or family member or friend or boss. Call 1555 Customer Service for a resolution if you have a spare half hour or so to go round in circles with the Lara IVR. BTW ,I have never ever posted a comment on any forum since the commercialisation of the internet, never been in a chat room or subscribed to any social networking site because I didn't believe it would do any good to have a whinge. All that is out the window now , please take this post and if it helps make this Company accountable for their performance to the people of Australia I will have done some good for today.
11 Jan 2012 11:00:28 PM: I now have ported across to Telstra and have not had one call dropout in 2 months and the data speeds is on average 4 times as fast. I feel a great sense of relief that these losers are not f***ing with my life any more !!

I've been at work today near Wynyard station in the Sydney CBD. I've tried to make calls to organise an Australia Day picnic ALL MORNING - connection error, network busy or it just hangs up without completing the call. And texts go into the outbox, retry and then - yes you guessed it - Fail! And despite the fact that the phone has been on all day, I have just had a text informing me of a voicemail. I have had 2 months of trying to get hold of Vodafail now. I have sent 5 emails and had 1 response. I have made 7 calls to the Customer "care" department of which they answered only 1 and during this call (which lasted 70 minutes) while on the phone with them the call dropped out twice and they had to call me back. They even noted in the beginning that if I drop out don't worry, we have your number and will call you back. Later they said they will investigate my coverage and get back to me within 5 working days and discuss potential cancellation, which is 2 weeks ago. My wife had a car accident (with my 10 year old son in the car too) and the car is a write-off and in that time our calls kept dropping out while I was trying to get to them. We have had 20 calls drop out in the last 2 days and I have had 5 calls to the customer care without managing to talk to anybody as the calls dropped out saying it appears we have had a technical failure, please call again later. NO WORRIES, I love waiting for 30 minutes just to get back into the back of the line again. I still have not managed to get hold of them.

14600 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is I am sure they put you on hold and then have a break? at 25 Jan 2011 01:34:46 PM
Phone keeps dropping out, unable to send or receive text messages, unable to access internet, continually slow data transfer.

I have been a vodafone customer for 3 years. Around 2 months ago I started to experience continual problems with my and my partners phone, and our internet access whilst in our home which is close to Brisbane CBD. In November 2010 I complained to vodafone after a 24 hour period were we had no internet or phone coverage at all. After an hour on the phone I was told someone would call me back, which they did a couple of days later leaving a voice message that I could not understand. The problems have continued since that time and again I called vodafone to complain. After speaking with a completely useless phone operator who said the technicians had confirmed there were no problems with coverage in my area so there was nothing they could do I responded by saying there was something I could do, which was join the class action against them and complain to the ombudsmann. I also said I wanted to cancel my contract (at no cost to me). I was then told that a supervisor would call me back to discuss cancelling my contract. Suprisingly someone did call me back, and after repeating the same information and being asked the same useless questions such as are you sure it is not your handset (given it happens to 2 phones and the internet at the same time) was informed.......Yes there was a problem and it started 3 months ago when Vodafone took over 3. It had to do with the towers and they are attempting to fix this problem and hope that services will be working fine in around 2 months. They then offered to waive the monthly fees on both phones for the next 3 months ($150 per month) and if it was not fixed by the end of this period to call them back and discuss this further. For me this was a satisfactory outcome.

Every time I call Vodafone I'm put on hold... not just for a few minutes either closer to an hour and sometimes over an hour. I don't get reception at home, at work or standing in the middle of the street most of the time! I get delayed sms msgs, as well as voice mails, my calls drop out at least 4 times a week. I call vodafone at least 3 times a week and every time i get a different response. I was told that I can cancel my contract due to not being able to get reception, i was then told I couldnt get out of my contract without paying.Everytime Vodafone has to call me back... I NEVER have reception to take the call, it just goes straight to my voicemail! PATHETIC COMPANY!
16 Feb 2011 02:37:54 AM: Exactly what i was told! Their customer service reps give you al different stories! A woman told me I could upgrade to another phone in an effect to bypass all the problems I've been having and see how that works. She said there would be no extra charge, that my contract would just be sligtly changed to just lapse over and extend longer. The minute I get through to the upgrade department they start telling me I have seven months left so I need to pay $260 to get out and then start another contract. They then thought the offer they made me of getting me to pay $200 for only six months to get out was the greatest offer ever!!! I've been over-paying for months now, and you really think I want to pay more!!! Not to mention the fact you told me I could just extend my contract with no extra fees at the beginning. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BETWEEN ALL CUSTOMER SERVICE OPERATORS THANKYOU!

Absolutely ridiculous!

I'll be getting out of my contract courtesy of TIO very soon!

Vodafone is just bad service, poor or no network coverage at all and a billion other issues right now!!!

I've been with Vodafone since January 2007. Back then not so bad, then in late 2009-2010 started getting dropouts when I lived in the St George area of Sydney. I then moved to Newcastle, and god forbid mobiles should work here... Just about every time I am on a call it will drop out if I get reception at all. Lately it has been getting much worse, just yesterday I had NINE (9) dropouts. I've called Vodafone about it and they told me I needed to talk to their network team who would call me back but it's been over a week now and still no word, then about healf an hour ago I get a text from them saying that since the new billing period has started 5days ago I have racked up $144 worth of something that they won't tell me. I've checked my online account and that has gone up to $178 in a matter of seconds. Unless someone has discreetly stolen my phone while I have slept at night I fail to see how I could possibly use this much credit in 5days?? VODAFAIL...

after 11 years as a Vodafone customer I have finally given up. Last week I lost a contract due to the fact that I was unable to send an email with the proposal my client wanted. I drove from Manly to Newport (NSW) stopping every 1km or so to resend the email. 2 days later I deleted the email from my outbox, still not having sent. During this period I called Vodafone repeatedly. After being left on hold for 45 minutes I hung up and when I finally got through I was told "sorry" I "dropped out" to which I replied if i dropped out how come I could hear the hold music until I ended the call. I joined Vodafone knowing that regional reception was poor with them and that they concentrated on metro areas. But when I cant get reception in metro areas, when I pay for a 3G service and only get that about 15% of the time it leaves me wondering why I bother! Well I don't anymore. The only way we will let Vodafone know that it's service is substandard and that it cannot treat customers like that, is to vote with our plans and go elsewhere. After much frustration, with call centers that do not listen , reception that drops out and data that just does not work I have finally voted with my custom.

I have been with Vodafone for 15+ years. One of their original customers and you know what that counts for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!! I bought an iphone 3 11 months ago. Since that time I have not been able to send emails - the reason I bought the phone. I have waited on hold for up to an hour sometimes and given up. I have written emails - not a single response. And after 15 years of loyal, paid on time service you know what I get - oh so sorry we will give you $30 off this month and then for the next three months you can have a discount. What I want is never to have to deal with Vodafone again. They don't care about my loyalty so why should I. Man up Vodafone. Cancel my contract at a reasonable rate. YOU HAVE SOLD A PRODUCT THAT CANNOT DO WHAT IT WAS SOLD TO DO. You don't deserve my business. Last Friday as my 2 year old was in an operating theatre guess what - no service coverage. This is in a suburb 5 minutes from the city and under Vodafone relay towers. Please - enough is enough

14580 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Mega fail at 25 Jan 2011 11:46:33 AM
I have been with Vodafone for a few years now and have never really had any issues. However since upgrading to an iPhone 4 in September and signing a new 2 year contract, all of a sudden I'm having continuing issues with 3G coverage. Sometimes it works fine, other times it takes forever, but in most cases it doesn't work at all. This is particularly annoying as I rely on 3G coverage a lot. Phone reception is also a major issue. Recently I was holidaying in Bright (VIC) and on the first day I had full reception and perfect 3G coverage, however by the next day and for the remainder of my holiday I had no coverage at all! I couldn't pick up not even the slightest signal. Not good enough and I'm fed up. As soon as this current contract is up, I'm switching to a more reliable network coverage provider.
25 Jan 2011 09:36:05 PM: Ahhhh another person having trouble in Bright. I too had trouble, but was told repeatedly that there were no service issues in bright and there was full coverage. If you look at the coverage map it shows full coverage - dont see out your contract, check with the TIO maybe more of us calling them may help them to make quicker decisions!

14577 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Worst network ever. at 25 Jan 2011 11:37:42 AM
I have been with Vodafone for the past 4 or so years for my business. In August this year we re-signed our contract for 10 staff phones for 2 years. About one month after we signed the contract, the network problems started to happen.

I live 10 minutes from the city, and my office is in the centre of Adelaide CBD. Every day on my way to work, as I would reach the city, reception would pretty much drop down to a single bar. Within my office it goes to 'no service'. I need to turn off 3G every time I'm in the CBD. If I forget to turn off 3G, IF I get service, then the call WILL drop out. Data is so slow it's practically unusable. I now leave my phone on 2G, as result I get GPRS data which is so slow it's not worth even using.

I have now gone out and bought a Telstra mobile / wifi unit, so that my iPhone now can use data when I'm not in the office or home, as Vodafone's data network is complete rubbish.

I spoke with my account rep at Vodafone about 2 months ago, and they promised network upgrades would have been completed that week. No change, no difference. When I travel to Sydney or Melbourne, it's equally as bad.

The only time my phone has ACTUALLY worked, was when I travelled to Japan and it was set to roaming, sadly I had better call quality and data talking to people in AUSTRALIA, using global roaming on a Japanese network.

At this point if I could exit Vodafone without an enormous penalty I would move to Telstra in a second.
25 Jan 2011 12:36:34 PM: It would be worth clickng on the How to Complain link on ths site. I think you should be able to get out of your contract penalty free AND be reimbursed for the sim/phone you bought from Telstra, AS WELL AS the injury to your business. That is with the TIO. Also, it is worth considerng the class action against Vodafone.

Crap data speeds, virtually no 3G coverage in SW Brisbane, delayed messages, Delayed voicemail, dropped calls, failed text messages. I waiting 90 minutes on hold to customer care, operator answered then call dropped, like they hung up on me. Complaint now lodged with TIO as i think 90 minutes on the phone to only be disconnected is a fair and reasonable attempt to fix my problems. How come when Lara asks "is it for the number your calling on?" they cant identify my number and call me back?? Fail cant wait to get out of there

14560 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Completely at 25 Jan 2011 10:35:40 AM
I have been with Vodafone for a number of years and have experienced illegitimate phone bills, constant disconnection of phone calls, limited reception and poor assistance from staff.

I spent 40 minutes on hold to speak to a customer service operator, when I told them my problem they then requested to transfer me to someone more appropriate and simply hung up on me. 40 minutes wasted.

There is no point trying to get help from a staff member because their stores are already full of other unhappy customers.

I currently own the Iphone 4 and am instantly regretting extending my phone with Vodafone. Close to every phone call I make is disconnected half way through due to what I assume is poor reception. No matter my location, I have one or two bars of reception. I do not receive messages, my phone rings out and doesn't display a missed call, and most of the time it connects straight to message bank.

Recently I've had two people tell me my phone has been disconnected when they have tried to contact me.

VODAFAIL!!!

This is the email I just wrote to Vodafone.

I would like to detail to you my displeasure in your service.

I have had an iPhone 3G for a year and a half and all was fine up until around September last year. I was in Sydney Metro Area and I noticed I was starting to lose reception and not receiving calls or SMS until days later. I am now in Perth Metro and the situation is untenable. Issues below
No 3G Coverage
Echo in long distance calls
Missed Calls
No service when service indicator has 4 bars?
This phone is my only means of communication and my business phone. This situation is unacceptable and I want to cancel my contract.
I have now escalated my complaints as I was expecting these issues to improve, they have not.
My action is to now contact Vodafone directly and asked that you, Vodafone and I agree to end the contract as your company is not living up to the terms of the contract.
My next action if no response from Vodafone is to contact the Telecommunications Ombudsman.

Please contact me any time to discuss or send me an email with the details.

14557 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Incredibly Bad at 25 Jan 2011 09:58:23 AM
We have extremely poor coverage from our home, even though we were guaranteed 100% coverage when we signed a 24 month contract. As I use my mobile for work it is really frustrating when speaking to customers that the calls continually drop out, most customers feel sorry for me when I tell htem I'm with Vodafone but that doesn't fix the problem. I tried to speak to an operator at Vodafone earlier today, eventually when I got through I asked if she (Rita) had my mobile number, she said yes and repeated it back to me, I then said I was enquiring about exiting my contract early.... you can guess the rest... the phone went engaged, this was not a drop out as I was calling from a landline. I was hoping that because she had my mobile number she would call me back, but no such luck. They have lost the plot, I can't wait to change carriers.

14555 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is EPIC Fail at 25 Jan 2011 09:37:10 AM
I joined up to the Vodafone infinity $45 per month plan in November and immediately there were problems. The person in the store who set it up did not inform me that i would be paying one month in advance, and when i questioned him about this (as in, i had to prompt him to tell me about it), he said that my first bill would just be two bills in one). However, my first bill came within two weeks of signing up to the plan, and was an odd amount. I had signed up for direct debit, so i knew this amount would be taken out regardless of any complaints i made. I called customer care, and to my surprise i actually got through quite quickly. I spoke to someone who told me that the 'odd' amount was due to pro rated charges (sorry if that is spelt incorrectly), and that i should have been told that i would be paying one month in advance, and then one month at the end of the first cycle. I let this slide, and figured i probably just had somebody who was new that was setting up my account. Anyways, following this, i found that i could not access the android market and could not download anything as it would simply just say 'download queued'. After several phone calls to customer care, and endless nights spent googling to try and find the answer to correct this, i finally rang a motorola service centre who put me directly onto motorola. Motorola called and told me to do a factory re-set, which i did, and this did not fix the problem. I then had to go into the original vodafone store where i signed up, and had to replace the handset. After waiting around for about an hour, and having a different store clerk serve me, i found that the replacement handset still had the same problem. I told the store clerk, who spent about 5 minutes fiddling with the phone, only to find out that it was a simple setting in the phone that had to be changed. Thank goodness he knew what he was doing! So not only had customer care wasted my time and made me change numerous settings on the phone, they had no idea how to actually fix the handset they are selling. Following this, i had no further problems. For the last couple of days, i have noticed that the internet speed on my phone has decreased dramatically, and sometimes it just simply will not even connect to the internet during peak times (i.e. after 5pm when i finish work, 12pm-1pm during my lunch hour, and in the morning from about 8am to 9am when i am travelling to work). This morning, i had reception at about 6am to 7am, but as soon as 8am arrived, i have not been able to use anything on my phone that requires an internet connection. Hence, making my phone useless in terms of the android software. I called customer care, and asked for a call back. I did receive a call back within about 5 minutes which was quite good, however the representative i spoke to was no help. He first tried to convince me that it was the setting on the phone, and once i explained that i had done nothing to change the settings and it had been working 2 hours earlier, he quickly changed his story to 'over congestion of the network'. I then asked how Vodafone was going to compensate me for this, as i am basically paying for a service i cannot use, and i got some story about how the merger between 3 and vodafone has affected network status. I became increasingly frustrated with the lack of assistance being provided and i terminated the call. I am extremely disapointed with this, and have already started looking at optus plans to change to. My internet has since started working following the phone call, but a three hour outage is simply not acceptible. I am only on a 12 month contract, and am seriously considering changing to optus or telstra and simply paying out the contract. unfortunately, it seems that nobody can escape the wrath of vodafone and its epic fail of a service.

Constant poor reception in normal Melbourne suburbs within 25km of the CBD most annoyingly in our home suburb where we can rarely make or receive calls due to drop outs and poor reception. Also stupendously slow data when we do happen to have full 3G coverage and want to check something online. Lodged a complaint with Vodafone who said they would look into our 'deadspot' and received 1-2 calls and SMS's from them a week at all times of day and night just to tell me they were looking into it but never a resolution. We've been with Vodafone for years and never had trouble like the last year or so, switching as soon as we are near the end of our contract!

Have been with vodafone for years but this last year has been crap! The 1% charge to pay by card should be absorbed by them. They offered me a new phone and $10 off every month for the next 12 months last july, it took 4 months for them to honor it despite my monthly complaints and their verbal acceptance and promise of fixing it every month when my bill arrived. Each of the complaint calls I made to them showed up a calls that were charged in my monthly cap on my bill...The reception where I have moved to which is only a 20min drive to melbourne cbd is poor at best and makes it very hard to communicate with people.

I used to work for VF before the 3 merger and it's made a HUGE difference to service. I don't even try and call customer service because with the exception of corporate customers I know what kind of people I'll get on the other end! When I worked there the overseas (personal) care reps CONSTANTLY palmed people they 'couldn't handle' onto the business reps who although being locally based could not help them. They didn't seem to know how to fix simple problems that took all of 30 seconds to fix with the proper training and system knowledge and so now I do everything that needs to be done myself and thank the stars I'm in a decent area although the reception onion iPhone at times is ridiculous especially loading data pages.

Might I just say as an inside point of view I personally think the company went down somewhat with the new CEO from 3. Not a fan. Certainly not the same level of caring as his predecessor and why they made that choice is beyond me.

I've been with VF for a long time and unsure if I'll stay but I would never even attempt to call service unless I was out of every other conceivable alternative. Oh well. One can only hope that if enough people complain someone will listen.

My problems with Vodafone consist of:

Dropping calls. (talking with customers and the call drops out half way through a sentence then you have to call back appologise, only for it to happen again).

Poor signal. (leave the metro area and you may as well have a brick in your pocket)
Internet not available most of the time. (useless as it is never working when you actually need it)

Late arrival of txt messages.

People calling and being told my phone is switched off when its not.

No emails for the last 10 days. (was told to reset my phone how many times)

Then was told yesterday by a customer service representative to switch my phone to 2G while the upgrades to the network were being carried out but continue to pay for my 3G contract.

NICE.
25 Jan 2011 07:26:07 AM: Look you have to learn to be patient. The network upgrade may or may not occur sometime in the next 10 years or so.
Your negative comments are hurtful to Nigel (and has an adverse impact on his bonus) and to the Vodafone shareholders.

I get dropped calls inside my house on the eastern side of footscray, near the city, bad internet connections at home despite showing several bars of reception (fluctuating), internet doesn't work as often as it should, even if I'm standing in the middle of the city, near the queen vic markets. I've missed a few calls now too without any ringing and gotten some pretty delayed messages.

The gotcha is... Vodafone is the only telco that I can find that will allow me to use the included value of the caps to call overseas and I do so quite often to keep in touch with family...

Anyone got any advice??

From Auckland, NZ.
About 5 months ago got a new Iphone from vodafone on contract, I was previously on prepay.
The Iphone arrived, went to activate the new SIM, waited for 40 mins to get to a person, then was asked what colour the sim pack was, as it needed to be the same colour as my previous prepay sim pack. WTF? Told I needed to be put through to the "Iphone Activation Team" which was closed for the day. Called back the next day after work, waited for nearly an hour, then got told by the operator that I was at the wrong dept and needed to call this 0800 number.!!! WTF!! called next day and waited for another 40 mins, and finally got my SIM activated. Coverage sucked in terms of signal strength, data was slow and calling them always took 40+ minutes to get through.

I have changed to Telecom XT and its amazing. Data is fast, reliable and so is signal strength. Best decision I ever made.

Also changed my home broadband from Vodaphone to Telecom. I have been battling them as I was suppose to be on ADSL+2 but my router would keep losing connection, I had to set it to ADSL1. I am a network engineer, so I know what I was doing. THeir support just offered stupid resolutions which got me no where.I Was getting 1.5mbps on VF and on Telecom I am getting 17mbps!

To everyone, get out if you can.
Cheers.

I travel to Canberra about 3 times a month. Last night and the whole of the 24th January I had fluctuating reception in Manuka varying between one bar of 3G on my iPhone 4 which then turned to GPRS then to Edge and again to 1 useless bar of 3G causing tmeouts to NO SERVICE AND SEARCHING. WTF!!!

25 Jan 2011 07:21:36 AM: Vodafone reception in the ACT is generally abysmal. There is nothing wrong with your phone. The fault lies with Voda. But they will still require you to pay your bill despite their clear failure in providing the contracted services.

My 1st Grudge with Vodaphone pretty much started when I signed up. I was living in Perth at the time and of course can get reception anywhere. Soon after I moved home to live with the Family in Albany and of course had RECEPTION SERVICE PROBLEMS, I was able to get coverage in town but drive 10mins away from the centre and away it went! This became an ongoing issue and really got on my nerves as I was having to use my families mobile phones to text who were of course with TELSTRA or OPTUS. Lucky I moved away eventually as I still had 23 months left on the contract!! My Newest GRUDGE has been recent. I have recently started a job which intales me to fly Internationally so in the last few months without even knowing my Bill has sky rocketed to massive $1500 with out me knowing. my phone recently got barred yesterday for not paying! Now I know When a Bill is overdue of course this is there procedure BUT on more then 3 occasions I Called (ON HOLD FOR OVER 30 mins each time!!) trying to sort this issue out. I had no contact from Vodaphone on any occasion to tell me my phone bill was incresing to this substanial amount when I had been at a minimal $80 a month for the last 16months. My payments have always been on time and never overdue! It would of been nice for them as a Company to see that there was a change in billing amount and call me or notify me of this problem!! (Like the Banks)
So now My phone is barred and have tried calling them 6x 2day to get the phone put back on and see what they can do with this amount that I had not been informed of! I finally got through (its now Midnight) after being told by a friend who also had similar problems to call COMPLAINTS and they unbarred my phone till 2moro where I then have to call again and speak to Collections!! So here I am now ANGRY more then ever and want to get out of my Vodaphone Contract!! Making sure I tell everyone never to sign with then again!!

It is ridiculous and I will never be using them again!!!
25 Jan 2011 05:23:14 AM: But you are going to contact the TIO first, right?

14507 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Uber at 24 Jan 2011 07:39:26 PM
I went through a long period where my messages never got through to people and in the end gave up and bought a new phone as I thought this was the problem. I now have this problem AND some messages send up to 6 repeats of the same message. I got a new SIM and I still have these problems as well as network losses.

14500 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is on hold again at 24 Jan 2011 07:02:13 PM
loyal vodafone customer for 15 years (my first mobile was with vodafone)

crap service - cant get any reception in my house at all!

complained to TIO in december and released from contract just days before xmas (YAY) but now cant get my final bill sorted so i can change to a functional telco. been on the phone today with 5 different people (2 put me on hold when they couldnt figure out why i had been incorrectly charged $163.62 for a "TIO Settlement"???) and one just thought it was all too hard and hung up on me.

so, now i am trying to get my CREDIT! it shouldnt take 5 staff and more than 3hrs of combined calls to get this resolved!!!

if all goes well, i'll be a telstra customer this time tomorrow (and i never thought I would say THAT)!

14495 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is pocketwifi problems at 24 Jan 2011 06:46:05 PM
Using a pocketwifi.

It is a warm, still, cloudless night where I am so there should be no atmospheric abnormalities causing any problems.

I have positioned the device all over the apartment and the following occurs no matter where the pocketwifi is located.

The signal constantly changing from 3G to HSDPA.

The signal strength drops from the maximum to minimum while the device remains in the best receiving location i can find.

The internal wireless network drops out, resulting in a ping www.google.com to time out, web pages time out, even though the pocketwifi dashboard claims there are still wifi connections current. the connection has to be reestablished to continue.

The download speeds have reduced from (consistently) near 1 Mbps using an older style vodafone mobile internet to less than 300kbps using the pocketwifi. This is with only having a single connection to the pocketwifi.

I am totally disappointed with the service of the pocketwifi and if vodafone cannot improve then they should increase the number of call centre staff by a factor of 5. I feel totally sorry for the vodafone call centre staff.

25 Jan 2011 05:17:53 PM: Having the EXACT same problem word for word. This pocket wifi does not work where I need it most, AT HOME! On contract for another 10 months and just want to rip it up what ever the cost!

14493 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is New Zealand VF at 24 Jan 2011 05:56:07 PM
What about including Vodafone NZ in this as well, same issues over here - poor coverage, bad 3G handover to GSM - poor broadband. I have complained 4yrs ago, a blackspot is listed but no action yet, with Telecom NZ XT I get 7MB broadband at home download, where I cant even hold a normal non-3G call using GSM only ... p*ss poor VF NZ!!

14491 Someone from NT thinks vodafone is Horrible. at 24 Jan 2011 05:51:57 PM
1 bar reception at best when inside my house, and ONLY when situated right next to a window or doorway and even then calls are dropped at random. Terrible 3G reception. Unable to login to many sites (mobile banking in particular) due to timeouts or page simply not loading. When the site DOES finally load it's after about 15 minutes and a good 8-9 refreshes.
At random the phone will display full reception for about 10 minutes (when in reality there is little or no reception), during this time it is unable to send texts, make or recieve calls or access any form of data transfer.
Horrible company. Moving carriers ASAP.
